one day i'll learn to make gifs but until then you get this little unhinged BTVS rant (with bonus pieces of other people's gifs).
ep: 3x19 choices - Faith is fully aligned with the Mayor and in her spiral. But she hasn't killed Prof. Lester Wirth yet, that's not until 3x21.

AND THEN THIS!
ep: 6x21 Two to Go - Willow stole magic powers from Rack and is in her spiral. She killed Warren in 6x20 Villains and has JUST killed Rack.

"It's way too late," said casually and cheerfully versus "I promise it's not too late," said with such aching hope. How Faith lashes back at Willow for hurting her. How Willow lashes back at Dawn for (inadvertently) hurting her. More script quotes below the cut if you want this to gnaw on your brain.
ep: 3x19 choices - Faith is fully aligned with the Mayor and in her spiral. But she hasn't killed Prof. Lester Wirth yet, that's not until 3x21.
"Check out the bookworm." "Faith!" [Willow is surprised] "Anyone with brains, anyone who knew what was going to happen to her, would try to claw her way out of this place. But you, you just can't stop Nancy Drewing, can you? Guess now you know too much and that kinda just naturally leads to killing."
"Faith, wait. I want to talk to you." "Oh yeah? Give me the speech again, please. [Faith is sarcastic here.] Faith, we're still your friends. We can help you. It's not too late." "It's way too late. [Willow says this quickly, calmly, cheerfully, casually.] You know, it didn't have to be this way."
[Faith's smile fades, she retracts, very very slightly.]
"But you made your choice. I know you had a tough life. [Faith is back to smirking.] I know that some people think you had a lot of bad breaks. Well, boo hoo! Poor you. You know, you had a lot more in your life than some people. [Faith studies Willow here, considering her violent options.] I mean, you had friends in your life like Buffy. Now you have no one. You were a Slayer and now you're nothing. You're just a big selfish, worthless waste."
[Faith punches Willow in the jaw and she falls to the ground.]
"You hurt me, I hurt you. I'm just a little more efficient."
[Faith pulls her knife on Willow. It seems like Faith might actually kill Willow, but The Mayor interrupts.]

ep: 6x21 Two to Go - Willow stole magic powers from Rack and is in her spiral. She killed Warren in 6x20 Villains and has JUST killed Rack. "Dawnie, what are you doing here? 'Cause if you're looking for me? Now's not a great time." "You look terrible." "Do I?"
... "I have to go." [Dawn is nervous]
[Dawn moves to the door but Willow appears blocking her way. Dawn cries out, definitely scared.]
"Why? So you can run and tell Buffy?" "Willow … please, just listen to me." "You don't have to talk. Just think real loud. I can hear you."
[Willow advances menacingly.]
"You're freaking me out." "Oh, don't be like that. I'm just a little wired. And I have some things to do. I thought if anybody'd understand - " "I miss Tara, too! But this? [Something plays over Willow's face. I think she pauses for a second, she feels the pain a little more.] What you're doing here? This is not the way to go! You're only going to make things worse! [Willow studies Dawn, considering her options. I think she steels herself for what she plans to do, resigned to it.] But I promise, it's not too late to - "
[Willow proceeds to be very cruel to Dawn. She hurts Dawn with her words, efficiently.]
"You miss her?" "Yes." "Did you cry? [Dawn is shocked.] Of course you did. I get that. I understand the crying, you cry because you're human. But you weren't always." "Yes, I was." "No, please. You're telling me you don't remember? You used to be some … mystic ball of energy. Maybe that's why you're crying all the time, Dawnie. 'Cause you don't belong here."
[Willow continues, taunting Dawn and mocking her, super cruel.]
[Willow backs Dawn into a wall. It seems like Willow might actually kill Dawn, but Buffy interrupts.]
Gifsets of some of this, both by starryeyesxx ep: 3 x 19 choices ep: 6 x 21 two to go
I think S6 Willow is eons scarier than S3 Faith, but Faith could have killed Willow with her knife, maybe. I think Faith is super glad The Mayor interrupted so she doesn't have to decide. Good doggie Faith (affectionate). I think Willow wanted to hurt Dawn, and then as she got going she thought death by Buffy was an OK option, and what better way to ensure death by Buffy than killing Dawn?
Also later in 6x21 Willow says, "I've got big party plans." Just like Faith in 3x10 Amends!

Rambling about Ace Hardy:
To me, Ace saying "I believe in being true to yourself, even at the risk of being misunderstood" is one of his most character defining lines in the series. It's cool to think about this quote after finishing the series and knowing everything we do about Ace.
Even though at the point of him saying this we haven't seen the full extent of the conflict with his dad, in retrospect, we can understand that Ace is likely thinking about his dad in some sense when saying this. Yes, he is saying this to Laura and in response about leaving Horseshoe Bay, but it extends to so many aspects of his life and character.
Ace is well aware that his dad doesn't understand or respect where he currently is in life, but he doesn't try to change himself to make his dad understand him. No matter how much he wants his dad's approval, he doesn't compromise who he is. He knows that will only lead to him living a life that isn't really his. What his dad sees as laziness is Ace having not found his purpose and not wanting to force himself into a box before knowing if he will fit.
Ace values being true to himself, and he values this trait in the people he surrounds himself with. This is at the heart of the conflict between him and Nancy in season 2, and I think it might give some perspective to why he struggled to find a solid group of friends before the Drew Crew.
We all know that high school is a difficult time for self-identity and finding yourself, and this has been affirmed through Nancy's character and her high school friends. So I think Ace struggled to make meaningful friendships with people who weren't necessarily being true to themselves (speaking from experience, this is something I struggled with in high school, and it was aggravated by questioning my own sense of self and hiding parts of my identity).
But for the most part, once the layers of secrecy at the beginning of season 1 are removed, I think Ace realizes that this group of people try their hardest to be true to themselves, despite some slip ups.
Nancy could easily leave the mystery solving to the police and stay out of trouble, but she values truth and justice, and she knows it is her responsibility to find those things. Bess values family, whether it is biological or found, and she strives to do right by the people she loves, even if it costs her. George has been known as the town screw up but for the most part, she ignores the labels others put on her and works hard to build a life for herself and her sisters. She knows she is more than their labels for her. Nick is driven by his desire to help and protect people. We see him stay true to himself most clearly when he tells his mom he's staying in Horseshoe Bay, that he has a purpose in this town and he's been planted there for a reason.
That was a long winded way of saying that Ace has finally found people who try their hardest to push away the opinions of other people and stay true to themselves.
For a moment, I was thinking about this quote in line with him telling Nancy he isn't lacking anymore after getting his apartment and starting to work at the morgue. Because if this is the code he lives by, then why would he do these things just for someone else's approval? But then I realized that he isn't. He's had an interest in medical and forensic examination since season 1 when helping examine Lucy's bones. And I think he's been ready to move out of his parents house for a while. He just needed a push to do those things and his insecurities tell him that he has to prove to Nancy that he is good enough for her. But the things he chose to do are still true to who he is.
So yeah, I really just love this quote and think it sums up who Ace is and we can see it reflected in everything he does throughout the series, even up to the very end.
P.S. Another good example of him living by this code is when he visits Mr. D and tries to understand why he made the choice he did. Part of him knows that if Nancy ever found out, she wouldn't be happy about him befriending her dad while she is very mad at him. But he does it anyways, even at the risk of being misunderstood. Because to him, he's doing what is right.

Quotable
This is a tickle fic. Don’t read if that’s not your thing. And yes, this is another Eddie and Steve x Reader fic because I’m slightly obsessed with their characters.
When it came to the gang’s get-togethers, there could be anywhere from 2 to 10 conversations happening at once. Whether it was the younger kids talking amongst themselves, the older kids talking amongst themselves, or a free-for-all, things could get pretty hectic.
When you’d first made friends with Nancy and Robin, you’d come to these hangouts in the Wheelers’ basement and inserted yourself into one of the conversations, trying to give it your full attention. But it was difficult to listen to simply one when so many absurd ideas and statements were being said at once.
Usually, you’d find yourself missing out on key parts of one conversation because of an awfully funny remark made by another group, and your attention would turn to them. Sometimes Nancy would hear the remark too, and you’d share a look with her across the room, both amused.
The more you began to hang out with the group, however, the more you found it was fun to sit back and listen to all the conversations selectively and silently. That didn’t mean you never talked, but sometimes your most fun evenings were spent barely having spoken a word. You particularly paid attention to Eddie and Steve, whose interactions never seemed to lack intense sarcasm and a level of stupidity that was there intentionally.
Steve had let out a massive yawn towards the end of one evening, stretching his arms out wide.
“You sound like my uncle,” Eddie had laughed, mocking Steve.
“I AM your uncle,” Steve had responded immediately, his tone so serious you couldn’t help but bark out a laugh, drawing a grin from the two of them.
You weren’t sure if they made comments for their own amusement or for the amusement of others, but you’d become hooked on their conversations when you found yourself listening as you usually did. And while other comments still had you laughing, it was most commonly Eddie and Steve.
So you began bringing a notebook with you to these hangouts, sneakily writing down quotes from the group members when you heard one particularly funny.
It was a long, long list. And 75% of the list was Eddie and Steve, not that anyone knew of this except for you. And you had planned to keep it that way, at least for a while.
You’d been writing down another quote, this time one from a conversation between Dustin and Max, when you’d felt two weights settle themselves on either sides of you on the couch.
“Whatcha writing?”
You immediately slammed the notebook closed, cradling it against your chest and attempting to school your face into a nonchalant expression before responding to Eddie.
“Just, remembered something I needed to do later. Wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget.”
“Mmmmhmmm.” Steve’s suspicious hum, drew your attention to him. “If that’s the case, you sure do remember a lot when we’re all hanging out. We’ve all seen you writing in that notebook an awful lot.”
“I don’t think that I-”
“Y/N, Y/N, Y/N... you have a horrible poker face,” Eddie lilted. “Spill it.”
“It’s nothing!” Your grip on the notebook tightened, and you brought it closer, so it was flush against your stomach, your body slightly curled around it.
Steve across you at Eddie. “My money is still on some sort of diary.”
“And I,” Eddie responded. “Think it’s some sort of blackmail booky book.”
You let out a laugh at that. “Nope.”
“You could be lying though.”
“A booky would be good at lying.”
“They’re not a booky, Eddie.”
“So says you, Harrington.”
“I think we need to see the notebook to settle this.”
“Absolutely not,” you cut in, noticing the way they’d both shifted to angle towards you, eyeing the notebook.
“C’mon Y/N. You and I both know we can easily get that notebook from you. Might as well give it up the easy way.” Eddie reached out slowly as he spoke, and you smacked his hand away.
However, you’d been too busy protecting yourself from Eddie, and Steve had reached out to pry the notebook away. His hand reached to grab the bottom corner of the notebook, but in the process, he clawed your stomach.
“NoHOHO Steve,” you twisted away from him, both protecting the notebook and flinching away from the ticklish touch.
They both grew quiet, a predatory smile on both their faces.
“Ooooo, someone’s really in trouble now.” Steve reached out to repeat the action, and you shifted backwards into Eddie, who sloppily grabbed for the notebook, tickling you as Steve had.
“Guhuhuys, let’s talk about this,” you protested. They paused, just long enough to give you hope of getting away.
You threw your weight forward, and you only made it a step away from the couch before you felt Steve’s arms wrap around your waist, slinging you dramatically onto the ground.
You shouldn’t have been surprised when the conversations around you didn’t even pause as Steve settled himself on your waist, and Eddie sat cross-legged by your head.
“This better be good stuff you’re trying to hide,” Eddie teased, his head leaned over yours. “For your sake more than ours.”
“You’ve got 5 seconds,” Steve stated, his hands resting on the strip of stomach not covered by your notebook. “Or else you’re facing the two best tickle monsters in Hawkins.”
“Five.” Eddie’s hands moved to hover over your neck.”
“Four.”
“Three.” Steve’s fingers began tapping at your stomach.
“Two.” You squeezed your eyes shut, a ticklish grin already making your nose scrunch up.
“One.”
Steve wasted no time in skittering his fingers across your stomach, as Eddie focused on tracing patterns on your neck and collarbone. You couldn’t decide which was worse.
Eddie’s surprising gentle touch left you shrugging your shoulders, which worked in Steve’s favor, as it pulled your notebook up further, revealing more of your lower stomach and shifting the hem of your shirt up further.
Steve switched tactics immediately, alternating between squeezing your lower stomach and swiping his fingers across the bare skin.
“I forgot how ticklish you are,” Eddie teased. “I think you may be even more ticklish than the last time we got you.”
“EDDIEHEHEHEHE,” you squealed, blushing at the teasing.
“Eddie and Steve aren’t here anymore, Y/N.” Steve lowered his face so his nose was practically touching yours. “Only the tickle monsters.”
The ticklish sensations combined with the sheer butterflies his words gave you caused you to forget your mission, letting go of the notebook in order to cover your face, which felt like it was on fire from blushing.
“Dohohon’t look at mehehe,” you giggled, embarrassed.
“Not gonna happen, giggles,” Eddie said, grabbing your wrists and pulling them to either side of your head.
When you opened your eyes, they were both looking down at you with an amused look, Steve holding the notebook open in his hand.
He looked down and began to read, and you began to tug against Eddie’s grip. Steve’s amused look turned to confusion, to shock.
“What is it, Harrington?” Eddie asked.
“It’s us,” Steve laughed. “Us and some of the others, but mostly us.” He held the notebook in front of Eddie so he could read it, and you closed your eyes again. You knew it was silly, but you hoped they didn’t think you were weird or anything.
Your eyes flew open again when Steve clawed your stomach to get your attention.
“Hey giggles. Care to explain?”
You groaned, really wishing they’d quit looking at you the way they did.
“I just, I think you all are funny. So I write down what you all say that makes me laugh.”
“Sooo,” Eddie drawled. “What I’m hearing is you like it when we make you laugh.”
“Well, yeah,” you responded matter-of-factly, immediately realizing after where this conversation was going. “Wait, wait, that’s not what I meant.”
“I think I’m hearing exactly what you mean,” Steve smirked.
“I didn’t mean that you all could... y’know.”
“That we could what?”
And you stupidly responded.
“Tickle me.”
“Well, if you’re going to be so kind as to ask,” Steve grinned, lowering his hands to vibrate into the center of your stomach.
“WAHAHAIT NOHOHO!”
“Eddie, I’d like you to add that to their list of quotes, if you please.” Steve handed the notebook over to Eddie, who released your arms.
“DOHOHON’T!”
“I think you underestimate just how quotable you are yourself,” Eddie laughed, scribbling in your notebook. “Besides, we need written record that you definitely like this.”
“I DOHOHO NOHOHOT, EDDIIHIHIHIIE!”
Steve leaned himself into that horrible horrible position again, your noses touching as he shifted to squeeze your sides.
“How many times do we have to tell you, Y/N? It’s tickle monster to you.” He shot you a wink, lowering his voice to a whisper. “And if you didn’t like it, why aren’t you using your arms to fight back?”
Oh shoot.
Eddie had let go of your arms, hadn’t he?
Steve slowed his tickling, still keeping his eyes locked on yours.
“Ihihi, I didn’t realize...” you trailed off, unable to come up with a defense.
Steve shifted his head to the side, pressing a quick kiss to your cheek. Eddie followed suit, doing the same to your other cheek.
“It’s sweet,” Steve stated, rolling off of you and pulling you into a sitting position.
“Keep writing the quotes, Y/N. We won’t tell the others.” Eddie smiled, handing back the notebook to you.
“And if you’re that desperate for laughs in the future, you know exactly which tickle monsters to call.”
You shoved Steve’s shoulder playfully, before your eye caught on the two new additions at the bottom of the notebook page.
Tickle me. - Y/N
Let the record show that Y/N is the best. - Steve & Eddie
“Thanks,” you smiled bashfully, closing the notebook as Steve pulled you to your feet.
“Y/N!” Robin called from her conversation with El and Max. “What do you think about....”
And thus began another quotable conversation.

A Study of the Heart and Brain (Book 2) Chapter Fourteen
Father Figure! Sherlock Holmes x Teen! Reader
Chapter Fourteen: Rigged Verdicts
Summary: Moriarty returns and is taken to court, but he has several cards up his sleeve.
Sherlock, (Y/N), and John stood beside the director of an art gallery as he complimented on their amazing job on the case of the painting that had gone missing. The three had recovered it, of course, and now they were getting some publicity for it. (Y/N) wasn’t a hug fan of all the attention, but they stood dutifully by Sherlock’s side as the director prattled on.
“Falls of the Reichenbach, Turner’s masterpiece, thankfully recovered, owing to the prodigious talent of Mr. Sherlock Holmes and (Y/N) (L/N),” said the director, and the patrons watching applauded. He handed a small box over to Sherlock and another to (Y/N). “A token of our gratitude.”
Sherlock opened his and frowned. “Diamond cufflinks. All my cuffs have buttons.”
“I don’t wear rings,” said (Y/N), looking at the ornate ring in the box.
“They mean thank you,” interrupted John.
“Do we?” asked (Y/N). John gave them both a look. “Fine. Thank you.”
“Yes, thank you,” said Sherlock. He and (Y/N) plastered smiles on their faces as the paparazzi began taking photos.
l
Sherlock and (Y/N) were instant celebrities. News reports followed every case they solved as they were hired by more and more prominent public figures.
A well-known banker smiled beside them, his arms around his wife and son, as the press took photographs of him, his family, and the detectives who had rescued him from kidnappers.
“Back together with my family after my terrifying ordeal,” he said. “And we have two people to thank for my deliverance—Sherlock Holmes and (Y/N) (L/N).” The watchers applauded, and the son held up gifts to Sherlock and (Y/N), who internally groaned.
More faking that we enjoy these, thought (Y/N), plastering a forced smile on as they held up the watch in the box. Too gaudy for me.
Lestrade stood up beside them and cleared his throat. “This banker was kidnapped by Peter Ricoletti, number one on Interpol’s Most Wanted list since 1982. But we got him, and there’s two people to thank for giving us the decisive leads…with all their customary diplomacy and tact!” He led the applause for (Y/N) and Sherlock.
            “Sarcasm,” noted (Y/N) quietly.
            “Yes,” agreed Sherlock.
Lestrade held out a present to Sherlock. “We all chipped in.”
Sherlock nearly groaned when he unwrapped a deerstalker. “Oh, yay.”
“Put the hat on!” cheered the press.
“Yeah, Sherlock, put it on!” said Lestrade with a teasing grin.
Sherlock breathed a deep sigh of annoyance before pulling the hat on and smiled through gritted teeth.
l
“Boffin. Boffin Sherlock Holmes,” huffed Sherlock, throwing the newspaper down the next day. He had been given a nickname by the press and despised it.
“Everyone gets one, eventually,” said (Y/N), stretching out on the couch.
            “One what?” asked John.
“Tabloid nickname,” said Sherlock. He crossed his arms.
“Mine’s Nonbinary Nancy Drew,” said (Y/N). They shrugged. “I accepted it, even if it is stupid.”
“I don’t have one,” frowned John, a little offended no one had bothered about him.
“Page five, column six, first sentence,” said (Y/N), nodding to the tabloid.
John opened it up and flipped to the article as Sherlock continued his rant, “Why is it always the hat photograph?”
            “Bachelor John Watson?” quoted John.
“What sort of hat is it anyways?” muttered Sherlock.
“Bachelor? What the hell are they implying?” questioned John.
“Is it a cap? Why has it got two fronts?” huffed Sherlock.
“It’s called a deerstalker,” said (Y/N), watching the two men’s annoyance in amusement.
“Confirmed bachelor John Watson,” muttered John.
“You stalk a deer with a hat? What are you gonna do—throw it? Some sort of death frisbee?” grumbled Sherlock sarcastically.
“Okay, this is too much,” groaned John. “We need to be more careful.”
“It’s got flaps, ear flaps,” said Sherlock, examining the deerstalker. “It’s an ear hat.”
I’ve never seen two men be more childish, thought (Y/N) with a slight fond smile. “What do you mean, more careful?”
“I mean that isn’t a deerstalker now; it’s a Sherlock Holmes hat,” said John. “You two aren’t exactly private detectives anymore. You’re this far from famous.” He held his thumb and pointer finger barely a centimeter apart.
            “Oh, it’ll pass,” said Sherlock.
“It’d better pass,” said John. “The press will turn, Sherlock. They always turn, and they’ll turn on you two,” he warned.
(Y/N) tilted their head. “It really bothers you.”
            “What?” asked John.
            “What people say,” they explained.
            “Yes,” said John.
“About me? I don’t understand. (Y/N), sure—” Even I want them to be kept from being hurt, and adults will prey on a kid genius at any moment “but me?” said Sherlock. “I don’t take the press that serious.” There are far more dangerous forces.
“Just try to keep a low profile. Find yourself a little case this week,” counseled John. “Stay out of the news.” He checked the clock and stood. “I’m heading to work. Just find a lost dog or something today.”
“Last time we found a lost pet we found a twenty-year-old murder and aerosol drugs,” pointed out (Y/N).
John sighed and left, leaving (Y/N) and Sherlock in comfortable silence.
Sherlock glanced over at where (Y/N) was lying with their eyes closed on the sofa. He wouldn’t admit it to John, but he was concerned. Not about the press, but about Moriarty. It had been months since Irene and her warning, and yet he hadn’t shown his face. It put Sherlock on edge. There was no question; Moriarty would return for (Y/N). It was only a question of time, and Sherlock had a feeling it would be soon, and that, that frightened him. (Y/N) in danger made his stomach twist.
So when their phone dinged, and their eyes widened as they read the message, Sherlock felt his heart drop. Reacting to their fear and anxiety instantly, Sherlock was at their side, taking the phone from them, one arm around them, holding them close as they began to shake.
            “It’s him,” they murmured.
Come and play, darling. Tower Hill. Time for a reunion.
-Jim Moriarty
“We have to go,” said (Y/N) quickly. “What if someone’s in danger? His games are deadly!”
“We’ll go. We’ll go,” said Sherlock. “Call John, and stay close to me. Understand?”
(Y/N) nodded. They would stay with him. Sherlock was safety; Moriarty was danger. They shivered at the reminder of Moriarty holding them apart from Sherlock. I don’t want that. I want to stay with Sherlock.
l
Moriarty, who had posed sitting on the throne with the crown jewels, had been arrested. (Y/N) had no doubts that this was part of his game, which made them nervous since it meant he knew he could get away at any moment, but they were willing to throw themself into the game anyways. They needed to figure out what he was up to. (Y/N) would take any chance to take him down.
“That glass is tougher than anything,” said Lestrade, watching the security footage of Moriarty destroying the glass guard around the jewels.
“Not tougher than diamond,” murmured (Y/N).
Sherlock focused on the recording and furrowed his brow. “He wrote something on the glass.” He clicked a button, and the perspective changed. He rewound the film under the glass came back together. Two words were written on the glass. Sherlock felt (Y/N) stiffen beside him, and his hands curled into fists.
            Get (Y/N).
“Don’t worry,” said Lestrade, noticing the teenager’s reaction to the message. He was rather like an uncle, and he didn’t want them to be scared. “Moriarty is in our custody. He can’t do anything.”
“Right. And we’ll make sure we testify to get him put away,” said John, adding his own uncle-advice to the mix.
(Y/N) nodded, but they knew the truth. Moriarty was more powerful than the two men. This wasn’t the end.
l
“Ready?” asked John, preparing to open the door of their cab. They had arrived at court. It was time for Moriarty’s trial.
“Yes,” said Sherlock, his hand on (Y/N)’s shoulder. He was ready to guide them through the crowds of reporters.
(Y/N) nodded, and John opened the door. Instantly, the throng of reporters pressed in around them. They clamored for interviews and comments, and (Y/N) shrunk away from the onslaught. Sherlock quickly placed them between himself and John so no one could get to them. It took a few minutes of pushing and police escort, but finally, they made it inside the courthouse.
            “Alright, Sherlock,” said John. “Remember—”
            “Yes,” interrupted Sherlock.
            John tried again. “Remember—”
            “Yes,” interrupted Sherlock again.
John glared at him. “Remember what they told you: don’t try to be clever.”
            “No,” said Sherlock.
“And please, just keep it simple and brief,” said John.
“God forbid one of the star witnesses at the trial should come across at intelligent,” said Sherlock.
“Leave that to (Y/N), they know how to be direct without being a bloody ass,” said John.
            “Thanks,” said (Y/N).
“Oi,” said Sherlock, offended. John gave him a look, but Sherlock pressed on. “I’ll just be myself.”
“Are you listening to me?” asked John. Sherlock pointedly ignored him.
“Please, Sherlock? This is Moriarty,” said (Y/N). “I want to be sure we’ve done our best to get him put away.” Even if I know he’s going to pull something.
Sherlock relented at (Y/N)’s plead. “Alright, yes, I’ll be slightly less brilliant than I usually am.”
“That’s the best we’re gonna get,” sighed John. “Let’s go.”
The trio walked into the courtroom and took their seats. Across the room, Moriarty was sitting calmly. He offered a wave when they entered, but nothing betrayed any sort of worry over the proceedings.
(Y/N) had a sickening feeling as they met his gaze that he had no reason to be worried.
l
The trial went on smoothly. Sherlock was asked about his discoveries and cases against Moriarty, the games and explosions, his realization of his job and the connections to other cases of his. With John glaring at him the whole time, he managed to not be a smartass and make his case well. It was pretty damning evidence since they had some written statements even from some of the people who had hired Moriarty.
Throughout it all, however, Moriarty just sat back and watched, perfectly collected. His defense team never had any questions or comments. It was as if this was just a fun little show to Moriarty.
Finally, (Y/N) was called to the stand. They took a deep breath and kept from shaking. They refused to show weakness in front of Moriarty. After last time, they wouldn’t be that weak. (Y/N) wouldn’t let him win that easily.
“So, Mx. (L/N),” began the lawyer. “You are the foster child of Sherlock Holmes, correct?”
            “Yes,” said (Y/N).
“And you cooperate with him on cases?”
            “Yes.”
(Y/N) was uncomfortable, but as the lawyer went through each of the cases that had to do with Moriarty as they did with Sherlock, (Y/N) rehashed all the facts, corroborating Sherlock’s story. They could only be thankful that their kidnapping was still a secret. They didn’t want to deal with discussing that.
“So, you agree with the conclusion that James Moriarty is a professional criminal?” asked the lawyer.
            “Yes, I do,” said (Y/N).
“No further questions, Your Honor,” said the lawyer, sitting down.
“Does the defense have any further questions?” asked the judge.
“Your Honor, the defense rests,” said Moriarty’s lawyer.
“Mx. (L/N), you may rise,” said the judge.
(Y/N) nodded, stood, and walked back to their seat next to John and Sherlock as more proceedings took places, more speeches and evidence and whatnot.
“Bank of England, Tower of London, Pentonville,” said John quietly. “Three of the most secure places in the country, and six weeks ago Moriarty breaks in, no one knows how or why. All we know is—”
“—he ended up in custody,” murmured Sherlock. He exchanged a glance with (Y/N).
            “Don’t do that,” sighed John.
            “Do what?” asked (Y/N) innocently.
            “The look,” said John.
            “Look?” asked (Y/N).
“You two are doing the look again,” said John.
            “It’s our face,” said Sherlock.
“Yeah, and it’s doing a thing. You two are doing a ‘we know what’s really going on here’ face,” said John.
            “Well, we do,” said Sherlock.
            “Kind of,” murmured (Y/N).
“Well, I don’t, which is why I find the face so annoying,” sighed John.
“If Moriarty wanted the Crown Jewels, he’d have them. If he wanted those prisoners free, they’d be out on the streets. The only reason he’s still in a prison cell right now is because he chose to be there,” said Sherlock.
“This is all part of his scheme,” murmured (Y/N), leaning forward, eyes narrowed, as the prosecutors finished speaking.
“Mr. Crailey—” the judge addressed Moriarty’s lawyer “—can we have your first witness?”
The barrister stood. “Your Honor, we’re not calling any witnesses.” Gasps of surprise from the onlookers echoed through the silent courtroom.
“I don’t follow,” said the judge, confused. “You’ve entered a plea of Not Guilty.” The evidence was damning by anyone’s standards.
“Nevertheless, my client is offering no evidence. The Defense rests,” said Crailey. He sat down.
Moriarty turned around in his seat and shrugged as if saying “oops.” But his snakelike gaze swiveled to (Y/N) for a single moment, and (Y/N) felt themself grow cold as a smirk flitted across his features.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury,” said the judge. “James Moriarty stands accused of several counts of attempted burglary, crimes which—if he’s found guilty—will elicit a very long custodial sentence, and yet his legal team has chosen to offer no evidence whatsoever to support their plea. I find myself in the unusual position of recommending a verdict wholeheartedly. You must find him guilty.”
l
(Y/N) paced back and forth, almost frantic with how worried they are. Finally, finally, when they thought their anxiety couldn’t grow any higher, the jury reconvened with a verdict.
“I’m surprised it took them that long,” murmured John.
The courtroom clerk stood and addressed the jury. “Have you reached a verdict on which you all agree?”
(Y/N) could feel themself grow cold with worry as they saw several jury members look away in shame. One shook his head despairingly. No…
A single jury member stood. “We find James Moriarty Not Guilty.”
A dark silence descended on the courtroom. Everyone watched, afraid to make a single noise, as Moriarty stood and turned to the guard next to him. The guard solemnly unlocked his handcuffs. Moriarty turned to (Y/N) and Sherlock, gave a playful wink and a wave, and walked out of the courtroom.
“Dad—” (Y/N) felt their lungs constrict. “What are we going to do? He blackmailed them so easily. He won without lifting a finger. All the evidence in the world won’t matter. What are we going to do?”
“You and John make arrangements for you to stay with Lestrade,” said Sherlock. “Better there than the apartment. He already put a bomb in there once.” He put a hand on their cheek. “It’ll be alright, (Y/N). Go ahead with John. I’ll bring you some clothes.”
(Y/N) looked like they wanted to argue, but they saw the look on Sherlock’s face. He wouldn’t let them say no. So instead, they nodded before hugging him tightly.
            “Be careful, Dad,” said (Y/N).
Sherlock blinked in surprise before hugging them back. This is my kid. I have to keep them safe.
l
Sherlock stepped into 221B and closed the door behind him. Moriarty sat calmly before him. Sherlock’s eyes narrowed as he saw he was on (Y/N)’s couch, a clear jab at Sherlock and their stability and home.
“Hello, Sherlock. Nice place you got,” said Moriarty.
            “Moriarty,” said Sherlock.
“What, not happy to see me?” asked Moriarty with a smile.
“Not particularly,” said Sherlock, sitting down across from Moriarty.
“No (Y/N) here, today?” questioned Moriarty.
“You might have gotten away from jail, but you don’t get everything you want today,” said Sherlock.
Moriarty smiled. “Oh, but I got everything I wanted. I showed you I’m in control.”
“You’re not in control of (Y/N) or me,” said Sherlock.
“Maybe not, but there are forces greater than you, Sherlock,” said Moriarty. “Blood is thicker than water, for instance.”
Sherlock narrowed his eyes. “They aren’t your child.”
“Yes, they are,” said Moriarty. He laned back on (Y/N)‘s sofa. “You can’t change that. They will never be yours.”
“The science may agree with you, but I’ve heard that blood is not the only variable in what someone calls family,” said Sherlock.
Moriarty laughed. “Getting sentimental, are we? Oh, Sherlock, we’re professionals! We’re a sociopath and psychopath! The heart has no place with us.”
“That still doesn’t make you their father in any way that matters,” said Sherlock.
Moriarty smiled and stood. “We’ll see. I’d ask you to say hi to them, but we both know you won’t, and it doesn’t really matter. Bye, Sherlock. Catch you later~!”
Sherlock watched Moriarty walk out the door with a clenched fist. He was planning something. (Y/N) was in danger.

Hellooooo, its me again uwu.
A bring more Nortalice/Alicenort content! This time its AU releated stuff! Hope that is alright
-Modern AU, they are like Shaun and Ryan from Buzzfeed Unsolved with a mix of Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo thrown in. Lots of hijinks and breaking into restricted and or forbidden areas. Sometimes they are actually solving cases, other times they broke into a gas station left to rot from the 1980s because Alice swears she saw something in there and it results with Norton rushing Alice to the doctors because she ate expired Cosmic Brownies. Not like Norton will complain, because him and Alice agreed on 50/50 on the money that comes from the cases and beats working his dead end job.
-Fantasy AU, Norton is the king of the demon realm, and Alice is the queen of Paradis (the one seen in LG and Orpheus's essences). Their kingdoms have tension with each other. Orpheus the Novelist urges war while Nightmare (yes they are two separate people). Alice however is like "Nah, imma talk to the king" and goes to the demon realm, so the two can work on some sort of peace treaty. Nonsense ensues and the two slowly fall in love, it ending with Norton asking for Alice's hang in marriage, which at first she thinks its so their kingdoms dont fight and his response being "...no you dumbass i love you. Thats why im asking to marry me"
Oletus Manor Doesnt Happen AU, aka what if Norton and Alice never went to the manor but still met each other. Can imagine its because Alice is doing a report on Golden Caves, what happened, why it shut down and interviews Norton, the only survivor from the accident. The two just seem to click and neither know why. Norton at the start tries to use this to his own personal gain, since in his state, he knows damn good and well, he will not be able to get a job again, forcing him in poverty so he tries to butter up Alice, get close to her in the hopes maybe he can marry into money. Alice also tries to use this connection to her advantage, hoping Norton's ties to the mining industry can give her access to more secretive information (like how they treat their workers). They do end up falling love properly though, and Alice uses the money from her family to help push Norton out of poverty and help him start a small jewelry business with the only catch being "Before you even dare spend a penny on clothes or luxurious things, I want you to spend the money I give you to go see a doctor in the chance to save yourself. I care too much about you Norton". Which in turn breaks Norton, but like a good break, like a "Holy fuck, she really does love/care about me, this wasn't an act, i wasnt dumb to let her into my life"
HELLO 🫡You're always welcome!! 🤣 AU stuff is ABSOLUTELY ALRIGHT 👏👏👏
LOOOL I saw Shane and Ryan and 80s and my brain went STRANGER THINGS LOL Like it starts as Norton: 'lol ghost hunting, those aren't real at least these people are paying' while Alice: 'ghost hunting, can you imagine the stories ghosts could tell if they could speak easily?? How thrilling!' But it turns into running for their lives LOL followed by eating expired cosmic brownies like nothing happened but they are all covered in dirt and grime and trauma LOL
Tumblr media
OH F A N T A S Y A U S are ALWAYS BANGERS IN MY EYES AAAAHHH YEESS! Gives me strong Persephone and Hades vibes and that has me SO HYPE OH MY GOOOSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! AND This reminds me of the theory I saw who knows where by this point lol but it was about the one Alice skin 'Eternity' and FG's skin 'Infernal Sin' and it went something like him being the dragon of the apocalypse to deal out the punishments that Eternity laid out. Something like that, I wish I could remember it cause it was dope as hell LOL
IF THEY MET WITHOUT THE MANOR AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
10000000% using each other until Alice falls first and Norton falls HARDER MUAHHAHAHA Recently my brain keeps going to the quote from 'Our Flag Means Death' and they say "you wear nice things well" and just seeing Alice saying that to Norton when he finally gets to get all dressed up for something and him like 'oh woah' but the magic fading pretty quick at the realization, 'this is not comfy at all' and then waiting until at the gathering to say something out of pocket like "I feel like I have a pickaxe shoved all the way, right up my--" -Alice slams her hand over his mouth- 🤣🤣🤣

Replaying Nancy Drew without Cheating - Part 6: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
AWW, DOG. My very first Nancy Drew game that I ever played, my first exposure to Nancy Drew games, Christmas 2002. Almost 20 years ago exactly, I remember opening what would end up being one of my favorite gifts ever, curious and not at all sure what to expect. Regardless of any objective criticisms of Ghost Dogs that I may have as an adult, this game will ALWAYS hold a very special place in my heart, and “I gotta have some torque!” will forever remain my all-time favorite Nancy Drew quote.
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, I DID feel tempted to cheat at one point in this game. OBVIOUSLY this was during that DREADED bug hunt. The number of times I switched from day to night and back, flipping over the same rocks and logs again and again, was MADDENING. I literally could have found 12 bugs inside my real-life HOUSE quicker than the many, many days I spent foraging, just to get that butt-ugly camo outfit from Em’s. Eventually I figured it out, but the temptation definitely gripped me for a moment.
Weirdly enough, after the tedium of looking for birds and bugs, the rest of the game sped by in the blink of an eye. I didn’t remember this game being so short, which makes sense since I was 10 years old and didn’t even have the motor skills to properly work a mouse. It was actually a bit disappointing, and it makes me, for the first time, understand why this game usually falls towards the middle or the end of everyones’ game rankings. This game is special to me, but I still get how it might be forgettable.
Here are some of my random thoughts while playing:
1. Is this the only game with only 3 suspects? I wonder what the reason behind this was. Saving on animation? Time constraints? Regardless of the reason, I could not stand a single one of these people. Red Knot? Creepy. Weird. Needs to deal with his aversion to anything human through intensive therapy. Em? The epitome of a slimy capitalist, breaking laws just to make a buck. And doing it with a grating accent, on top of everything. Jeff Akers? Hot, yes, but everything that comes out of that man’s mouth is a goddamn nag. OKAY, I’ll leash my non-existent dog. OKAY, I’ll take this stupid little pin in exchange for doing your job for you. What a pain in my royal ass.
2. Hilarious that Nancy sees Jeff Akers’ dog, who looks literally nothing like the ghost dogs, and accuses him of having something to do with the ghost dogs? “You’re insinuating things again, Miss Drew.”
Tumblr media
3. Speaking of ghost dogs, Her had NO BUSINESS making a cut scene that is THIS scary. To this day, I get chills watching it, and I am a 30 year old woman.
Tumblr media
4. Am I the only one who thought it unrealistic that Carson Drew would allow Nancy to go anywhere, much less to a small town in the middle of Pennsylvania, with not a single bill of cash?? I thought Nancy was supposed to be a world-renowned detective, sharp and always one step ahead, but then she travels, by car, with absolutely no money. Think about all the time spent looking for bugs I could have saved if she had just had a crisp $100 in her pocket all along.
5. I loved the puzzle Nancy has to do while tied up in the flaming shed. You have to think fast and figure out how to get the scythe down, and it really gets my heart-rate up. I also love the photos of her hands and feet tied up. Every time I see real-life photos in the games, it gives me a chuckle. Nancy’s massive gasp as it cuts to her balled up fists is just the icing on the cake for me.
Tumblr media
6. What an excellent backstory. Mickey Malone sounded absolutely class, his girlfriend Vivian was a fun phone contact, his parties in the roaring 20s make me wish I was born in a different decade. The storyline felt very focused and, despite the annoying little side tasks, it’s always fun to try to figure out where Malone kept his gold and what the explanation is behind the “ghost” dogs terrorizing Sally.
7. Malone’s speakeasy, to this day, remains one of my favorite places in Nancy Drew’s world. Look at this place! Imagine the schenanigans that went down!
Tumblr media
8. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the forest maze, but no lie, after all these years I STILL have that thang memorized and can zip through it in seconds. I also grew up in northern Maryland, so wandering through the trees and hanging out by the lake is very much my speed. A very comforting setting overall.
9. The ending felt very abrupt. Was it always this abrupt? Once you find the secret cave where the culprit is keeping the dogs, it is extremely easy to guess who is behind all the hullabaloo (I never trusted her anyway!!). HerInteractive likes for Nancy to kinda sorta befriend annoying female suspects and then make that person the culprit (looking at you, Lisa). The escape from Em at the end is surprisingly easy, as there aren’t many options for where you can go or what you can do. And then as soon as you get out of the sewer, it’s over. I felt underwhelmed, but I guess that’s what happens when you replay for the 50th time a game meant for children.
Tumblr media
10. Finally, I always appreciate a nice reference, or, in this case, two!
Tumblr media
I love this game. I do. It is the most nostalgic game I have ever played, and I will always remember it as my first. It isn’t particularly challenging, though, and you spend a lot of time by yourself, when some people love to pelt all the suspects with an endless barrage of questions. I find it hard to really give an objective opinion on DOG, and I am not sure how I would feel if not for the nostalgic aspect of it.
Heading up the East Coast to New Jersey...see you soon!

Maddox Files Mad Love Monday!
Dice Maddox a 26 year old private investigator in Toronto, Ontario. Described as a cross between Nancy Drew meets the X-Files.
Tumblr media
Dice Maddox is a 26-year-old in the first book and 27 in the rest of the books so far (up to book 4)
She applied and received her Private Investigator's license (in Ontario) at the age of 18. First job as a PI she hounded Eric Lawson, a Toronto Private Investigator of Lawson Investigations until he agreed to hire her temporarily. Eventually, he met her aunt who was less than thrilled about the idea, and they were soon married, making Eric her uncle and after a while her partner.
When Eric Lawson was killed in a car accident, her aunt encouraged her to take a leave of absence from the business. Four years later, Dice Maddox had enough of taking advice from people and decides to take back her business. Reopening a Private Investigation office, and stumbling into a world of mystery, how well did she know her aunt Sophie who raised her after her parents had died in a car accident when she was five years old? Her deceased uncle was privy to an underworld of interlacing mystery and peculiar individuals that are more than happy to introduce themselves to Dice Maddox. Mystery with hints and underlying science fiction elements, join Dice Maddox on her adventures and solving cases in the streets of Toronto, Ontario.
Book Quote:
Her cell phone rang. Checking the caller ID it was Chris Douglas her ex-fiancé again. Curiosity caught the better of her as she answered. “Yes?”
“It’s about time you picked up I’ve been trying to catch you all day.”
“I do work.”
“I know but I’m desperate I need your help tonight.”
Groaning on the inside, she should have let his call go to voice mail. “I’ve got plans already.”
“Dice eating a tub of ice cream and watching foreign movies isnʼt plans.”
“Ha! A lot you know about me. Why are you calling me anyways?”
“Remember I asked you last week if you would go to Jeff Bigginsʼ birthday party with me and you did say yes. I remember you said yes.”
Yes, she remembered saying yes, it was next month and she figured she had enough time to get out of it. Jeff was the creepy guy that just didn’t understand the word no, he was supposed to be Chrisʼ friend yet the moment he found out she knew about Chris sleeping around he was there trying to pick her up. “Yeah, thatʼs next month what about it?”
“I got the dates mixed up it’s tonight.”
“What?” she shook her head no, “No, Iʼm not going.”
“Dice you promised me you would come.”
“Alright, I guess we both made promises to each other that we arenʼt going to keep.” She felt bad for saying that as soon as the words came out.
“Youʼll never know how much I regret doing that to us. I need you. You can network. There will be a ton of rich people at the party that you can pass your business cards out to,” he pleaded.
“Fine,” she grumbled. “Fine, I’ll just need time to have a shower and get ready. I’m not even at home right now.”

Finally alone in a hotel room, but we’re not really alone, are we? Not with my brother in the next room, a simple six feet distance with only a thin wall separating us. Nancy looks so beautiful in her velvet cloak while I’m this ugly critter sitting on an uncomfortable bed with the most unappealing sheet set. Not that I should be paying attention to what the bed looks like, for---
“Have you seen my camera, Frank?” Her voice breaks through his thoughts.
“Hmm? The Polaroid?”
“Yes, Frank,” she answers sardonically but with a fond smile, “my Polaroid. Have you seen it?”
Yes, but in a moment of weakness, I took my own photos, and I didn’t think to separate them from the camera. And I don’t need you to find those pictures and see me different. Not now. Not after all we’ve been through.
“Nope.”

Frank: The universe is cold and unfeeling. The only constant is chaos.
Nancy: Was that place out of chocolate-chip pancakes again?

(re: darth maul) "yikes"
"caleb thinks his friends will tease him about his found family speedrun with his gf and. they will."
"to ship or not to ship. that is the question. the answer is yes."
"my sweet child is three years old and already causing property damage <3"
"what's the medieval version of oh no he's hot, is it alas he's dashing or what"
"time for the feral four to get their Nancy Drew on, heck yeaaah"
"it was supposed to be a one shot. it was supposed to be a one shot. it was supposed to be a one shot. it was supposed to be a one shot. it was supposed to be "
"Give Ketsu Onyo A Break 2k22: a campaign run by ketsu onyo"
"you'd think he would notice if his best friend got married, but nope. completely missed it. RIP bro, you're never gonna live this down."

The reaction (or lack of) BA biased screeners is actually really interesting because they were the first ones to say that the typewriter was symbolism for BH being over (that’s why BAs ruled with the theory) and the silence this episode is actually very telling… I feel like this might be a good one for us, but I’ll try to keep my expectations low.
(a lot of these are similar so i am streamlining, i am trying to get some last minute stuff done before i catch up on nancy drew)
you know what? i noticed that. i think that account that made the whole deal about the typewriter being "symbolism" was pretty subdued about it all? don't quote me on that tho, i just get sent stuff from twitter most of the time, i don't go looking.
i know alex is a b/a fan as well but even he seems to be aware of how they utilize that relationship.
and okay, yes, we made fun of the symbolism thing because they had to glide right over all the nuance and context of the scene to make that interpretation happen but still, there really does seem to be, if nothing else, a lack of excitement regarding their scenes.
more anons under the cut:
Tumblr media
listen, deciding that a kiss is needed to save the universe/fix the paradox and then saying that it would be platonic and they wouldn't even want to do it is something i don't think i've ever heard in my life outside of stan twitter. i have 100% seen children/antis on the bird app claim things are platonic (i have seen some shit, let me tell you. war flashbacks to the discourse about a 10 second kiss being one of gratitude in another fandom. because that's how we thank all of our friends in their minds apparently).
we don't have context, no, but there's not picking up romantic undertones and then there's...that.
Tumblr media
i saw a screenshot of what he said and it was, "without trying to start anything, there are a couple of specific reasons i can see varchies being the most upset."
so i would say either lack of content or the stuff we get with veronica might be less archie and more reggie(s?) and jughead. i personally don't care about scenes between jughead and veronica but i can see why varchies might be upset if they get less content but depending on the plot, we'll have to see how necessary it all feels in the end, you know?

Winter’s Rewatch of Nancy Drew
Welcome to my first rewatch of my current favorite comfort show ❤️ Under the cut are my thoughts and a few insights I hope you enjoy - I’ll be going through each episode and posting these periodically with the tag winter rewatched Nancy Drew.
2x02 - The Reunion of Lost Souls
First, did I like this episode better than 2x01? Yes…Do I still have a place in my heart for 2x02? Of course - but this episode brought back happy!Ace and for that I am forever grateful.
Second, this episode title has so many layers - yes it’s the literal reunion of the ‘75 Aglaeca crew, but it’s also the reunion of Nick and his mom, of the current crew after 2x01’s episode of frustration.
And third, Fernwood - too soon, too soon…
Overall MVP
Gosh, I feel like Ace, Nick, and George earn the title of trifecta MVP because Ace is the connective tissue between Nancy and Carson, George is the connective tissue between Nick and is mom, and Nick is the connective tissue between the crew and the mystery this episode.
Most Heartfelt Moment
Ok the ending scene with Nick and his mom and nick says let me pray over you - I cried, not going to lie...it’s so tender loving and what a stand up move for a son to be worried about his mom (besides the underlying fact he knows he might die) I can’t...
But then there’s the scenes with Carson/Ace and Ace/Nancy which I get into later, but I just had to highlight that Nick/Mom moment...
Most Comedic Moment
Ace thinking the bar tab is ten dollars - boy has obviously not gone out to a bar….
Bess’s “I’m not dying with gross nails” - stay an icon until the end Bess!
Best Overall Line
Ace gets best line twice -
Carson: “Guy at the store said it was a one man job”
Ace: “Mr. D I think the guy at the store lied to you”
and
“It’s been tough but so is Nancy” HUSBAND MATERIAL
Scare Rating
The first few moments were scary but then that dwindled so maybe a 5 if only for the first initial moments.
Nace Slow Burn Rating
Epic. Beyond epic. 10/10. Why you ask? Let me explain...
As a reminder, Ace was the first to be privy to the information about the Nancy’s true parentage, the first to bare witness to something that changed her forever (to quote Carson), so it’s almost poetic that he’s wanting to uncover why, uncover the other side of the coin to that moment so he could have a better understanding for himself, but also a better grasp so he can help Nancy through this tough time in her life, be a better friend by having all the facts, a better partner knowing all the facets to this pivotal moment in her life from all possible perspectives.
He’s wanting to be the bridge between her and her father is so important because it shows a care on a deeper level. It shows that he knows how frayed his relationship is with his own dad and he thinks of Carson a a pretty stand up guy (in comparison to Ryan at this point) so he would hate to have Nancy lose something truly good in her life over a falsity constructed out of love.
What’s interesting is Nancy is doing the same thing going into season four and Ace has that same compassion saying ok I’m going to figure out all sides of this because the truth of this matters as to why she’s doing this - and he’ll eventually discover she deceived him out of love - just like her dad.
“Runs in the family” to quote Ace.
But going back to the episode, Ace is going out of his way to say this person made a decision and it really hurt the person I care about, and I know they had their reasons and since said friend is hurting and caught up in her own emotions, let me try and look at this and see if I can sift through the opinions to find the truth and maybe by finding the truth, I can help - maybe by finding the reality within the lie, it can help heal her.
Find you a better partner.
And then you have Ace’s conversation with Nancy - which Ace probably hasn’t fully thought through how he’s going to tell her he’s been visiting her dad at that point, but now he’s caught and he has to explain and he does it in such a beautiful and gentle way and I can’t with his soft eyes and her soft eyes and they love each other so much *cries*
Also just a few asides: Nancy referring to Ace as a professional *be still heart* - Nancy retreating to Ace’s side when Nick and his mom have their disagreement - iconic - and Ace being a genius untangling the audio AND translating it - oh yeah, not as good as Agent Park *eye roll*
Fashion Moment
Ace is holding onto that puffy rainbow jacket for life (he’s been wearing it for the last three episodes) and WE LOVE TO SEE IT.
BRING IT BACK!! I mean we know he still owns it but I need it worn - I get it might have emotional ties to the person he was, the person he thought was lacking but YOU WERE NEVER LACKING SO WEAR THE JACKET
Special mention: in the ending scene between Bess, Ace, and Nancy (my beloved people), the stripes happening between Ace and Nancy - we love to see it. Also, to go back to the Ace and Carson of it all, were they wearing matching hoodies? *be still my heart*
Missing Moment

1)  I hope that I don't sound to insane when I say / There is darkness all around us / I don't feel weak but I do need sometimes for her to protect me / And reconnect me to the beauty that I'm missin' (January Wedding - The Avett Brothers)
2)  Hands around my waist / You're counting up the hills across the sheets / And I'm a falling star / A glimmer lighting up these cotton streets / I admit I'm a bit of a fool for playing by the rules / But I've found my sweet escape when I'm alone with you (Disconnected - 5sos)
3)  This is the worthwhile fight / Love is a ruthless game / Unless you play it good and right / These are the hands of fate / You're my Achilles heel / This is the golden age of something good / And right and real (State of Grace - Taylor Swift)
4)  What if I changed my mind / What if I said it's over / I been flying so long / Can't remember what it was like to be sober / What if I lost my lives? / What if I said "Game over"? / What if I forget my lies? / And I lose all my composure (Back to Life - ZAYN)
5)   I never said I was perfect / Or you don't deserve a good person to carry your baggage / I know a few girls that can handle it / I ain't that kind of chick, but I can call 'em for you if you want / I never said that you wasn't attractive / Your style and that beard, ooh, don't get me distracted / I'm tryna be patient, and patience takes practice / The fact is I'm leaving, so just let me have this (Jerome - Lizzo)

2)  “And I’m terrified he’ll see through the tough iceberg layer, and he’ll discover not a soft, sweet girl, but an ugly fucking disaster underneath.” (The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith)
3)  "I cannot make speeches, Emma," he soon resumed; and in a tone of such sincere, decided, intelligible tenderness as was tolerably convincing. "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it. Bear with the truths I would tell you now, dearest Emma, as well as you have borne with them. The manner, perhaps, may have as little to recommend them. God knows, I have been a very indifferent lover. But you understand me. Yes, you see, you understand my feelings and will return them if you can. At present, I ask only to hear, once to hear your voice.” (Emma by Jane Austen) (sorry for the length, the shortened versions were not cutting it for me)
4)  “Read, read, read. That's all I can say.” (The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene)
5)  “...amazing how boring you can get away with being when you’re pretty. No one seems to notice. When you’re pretty everyone just assumes you must have a great life. People are so short-sighted, sometimes. People are so stupid. I have a dark past and I have dark thoughts. I do dark things and I scare myself sometimes.” (Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell)

Could you do a story on where Nancy asks Ace to teach her sign language?
yes, story under the cut. Also I teach asl classes so incorporating it into my writing was more fun than I thought it would be, enjoy!
“Hey,” Nancy says, sitting on the bench in the back room of the Claw next to Ace after a long - but thankfully mystery free - day.
“Hey,” Ace says back, not looking at her. It doesn’t bother her. Instead, she leans forward and hovers her head above his right shoulder, looking at his laptop screen.
“Sign language instructions?” Nancy asks, squinting at the video. Ace hums in response. People usually are annoyed with Ace’s aversion to conversation, but Nancy appreciates how he only says what he needs to say. It allows her to ask questions she didn’t know she needed to ask, inadvertently working to sort out her thoughts. “Why do you need sign language instructions?”
“Bess asked me to teach her. Says she wants to be able to talk to my dad without being a burden.”
Nancy smiles. She loves how close Ace and Bess are. “She’s smart. Sign language is important.” Nancy pauses. “My mom, that is Kate, used to say it should be taught in school.”
Ace closes his laptop lid and turns to look at her. “She was right. It took my mom and I ages to be able to talk to my dad properly.”
Nancy looks into his eyes, and realizes that Ace is really saying that he knows she misses Kate, and he’s glad she’s found a way to talk about her again after the whole parent reveal thing. Nancy’s hit with the sudden realization that she’s never met anyone who she can read as well as Ace.
“Nancy?” Ace prompts, and Nancy realizes that it’s her turn to continue the conversation. She’d been staring into his eyes instead of talking.
“Oh right. Sign language. Yeah it sounds hard.”
Ace nods as his phone buzzes. He looks down at it. “Bess is ready to go. She’s sleeping over again.” Bess has been staying with Ace’s family now that she can’t stay with the Marvins. Ace stands, tucking his laptop under his arm, but Nancy isn’t ready for him to go yet.
“Hey Ace. Could you teach me sign language?” The question is asked before she realizes what she’s saying.
Ace smiles at her. “Sure, we can start tomorrow.”
“My house at ten? Before work?”
“Perfect.”
Nancy smiles after him, laying back on the bench to smile up at the popcorn ceiling until George comes in, demanding to know why Nancy’s got such a silly look on her face.
At exactly ten the next morning, Ace pushes through the front door of the Drew residence. A month earlier, Nancy’s house keys had ended up in the pocket of a hoodie she’d borrowed from Ace, and Nancy had figured it was time enough that Ace got his own keys. “He’s practically part of the family” Nancy had said when she tried to convince Carson that Ace needed a key. Carson had agreed, but not before he’d told Ryan and the two of them had teased her mercilessly for a week, as if they both didn’t think of Ace as a son, regardless of how Nancy thought of him.
“Morning,” Ace says, spotting Nancy at the counter drinking a cup of coffee.
“Good morning,” she responds, sliding a freshly brewed mug towards him. He takes a sip as he sits across from Nancy.
“Ready to start?”
Nancy nods.
“Okay, let’s start with introducing yourself.”
Nancy appreciates that Ace jumps right in. She hates preambles. Nancy copies the motions for “I am” perfectly, and gets most of her name until she gets to the “y”. For whatever reason, she just can’t get her pinky to stand up right, and her ring finger won’t touch her palm. She makes a frustrated noise in the back of her throat, but Ace just laughs.
“It’s hard for a lot of people, don’t worry,” he says calmly, reaching forward before retracting his hand. “May I?”
“Yeah.”
Ace gently lifts her pinky up, his thumb on her palm. Despite being friends with him for nearly half a year, Nancy can’t remember any of those casual touches that happen when you’re close with someone. Maybe it’s a good thing they keep their distance, because Nancy’s heart starts beating rapidly, and he’s still across the counter from her. “There. Now you’re complete.”
Nancy’s heart skips a beat for a moment, her face flushing before she realizes he’s just making a joke about she’s finally signed the last letter of her name.
“You good?” he asks her, studying her face.
“Yes,” she squeaks, taking a deep breath through her nose to calm herself. Honestly, she’s acting like a lovestruck middle schooler. Ace nods at her skeptically as his phone buzzes, breaking the tension for the second time in less than twenty four hours.
“It’s George,” he says.
“What’s she saying?”
“Quote ‘you and Nancy had better be in a life or death situation right now because if you two don’t get your asses in here pronto I’ll be causing the life or death situation’”
Nancy snorts. “Sounds like George.”
“Yes it does,” Ace agrees, standing up. “We should go.”
“Yeah.” Nancy follows him to the door, tugging on his sleeve before he steps into the mud room. He turns to look at her. “Thanks for teaching me Ace.”
“Of course. Same time tomorrow?”
“Yes,”  she says as they shut the front door behind them, Ace locking it with his keys.
There are a lot of things that Nancy could say right now before they separate to enter the ceaseless chaos of the Claw: “I like your eyes”. “You make me feel unique and normal at the same time”. “I didn’t know it was possible for me to be happy again but you make me happy”. “I liked it when your hand was on mine”.
And maybe there are things he can say to her, simple things, like “it’ll be alright” and “I like spending time with you”, but they don’t say anything. The simply climb into their separate cars and pull out of the driveway, content with the knowledge that they’ll meet again. Because Ace is teaching Nancy more than sign language. He’s teaching something she didn’t know until meeting him: sometimes, silence says everything.

• favorite genre: classics and fantasy
• favorite book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen or Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
• favorite author: Jane Austen
• favorite book series: Nancy Drew (but if you want an answer that’s more of an actual contained series i’d have to say Throne of Glass by Sara J. Maas)

• five quotes from your favorite book(s) that you know by heart:
- “That fool of a fairy Lucinda did not intend to lay a curse on me. She meant to bestow a gift. When I cried inconsolably through my first hour of life, my tears were her inspiration. Shaking her head sympathetically at Mother, the fairy touched my nose. ‘My gift is obedience. Ella will always be obedient. Now stop crying, child.’ I stopped.” Ella Enchanted
- “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” Pride and Prejudice
- “You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.” Pride and Prejudice
- “He loved me. He'd loved me as long as he he'd known me! I hadn't loved him as long perhaps, but now I loved him equally well, or better. I loved his laugh, his handwriting, his steady gaze, his honorableness, his freckles, his appreciation of my jokes, his hands, his determination that I should know the worst of him. And, most of all, shameful though it might be, I loved his love for me.” Ella Enchanted
- “There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” Pride and Prejudice

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was gonna put the Spy Kids quote here but then I’d probably get an ask if they or Sharkboy & Lavagirl are pulp heroes.
Okay, jokes aside I can’t put it into words just how much I appreciate the feedback and reception I get from you guys, never in a million years did I think I would ever get the notes I get or the amount of asks I receive. I can’t believe I’m nearing 200 followers as is, that’s insane to me. I am eternally grateful that this place lets me finally put out my essays somewhere people will read them and that you guys actually humor my ramblings, and frankly I don’t think I’m ever going to find an outlet like this elsewhere. Please don’t hesitate to send questions.
But I’m gonna have to start rapid firing a couple of those 50 questions so they don’t pile up more, and for these “Is X a Pulp Hero”, I’m gonna start off by pointing that I made a chart specifically to address this question, to try and at least give the cat I let out of the bag a structure to work with so it doesn’t destroy the furniture (not that it ever stopped my cat). Although again, the chart is just a basic attempt to put this on working order, sometimes it really is just a particular vibe that a character or property gives off.
Anyhow, on a case by case basis:
Tumblr media
Santa Claus: Not a pulp hero, waaay older than those, but has appeared in pulp stories (I mean, it’s Santa). There have been pulp stories that featured Santa, there’s a murderous Santa Claus in the canadian pulp Guy Vercheres, the Jimmieboy short stories had him meet Santa, and The Shadow’s killed at least one criminal dressed like Santa as well as posed for a holiday picture with the real one in Edd Cartier’s final drawing before he passed away, which is as official as a crossover could possibly get.
Samurai Jack: Maybe. The most directly pulp thing Genndy Tartakosvky’s done yet is Primal, that is just 100% cartoon pulp, the Conan/Lost World stuff bleeds through the screen. Samurai Jack is kinda near that ballpark but that’s because Samurai Jack has a zillion influences and pop culture references, most of it seems taken straight from comics.  Pulp stuff is in there but that’s because pulps run in the blood of everything, and it doesn’t make everything pulp. The whole premise of Samurai Jack is designed for the contrast between an old-fashioned samurai coming to face and adapting to whatever wacky future nonsense and pop culture archetypes Aku’s throwing at him that week because that’s what they felt like doing for the episode. There’s gangsters and Lupin and Star Wars and historical fantasy and robot violence and...shit, it really is pulp, come to think of it. Still not gonna say a definitive Yes to Jack being a Pulp Hero but the vibe is definitely there and maybe that’s all that really counts.
The Belmonts: Maybe. There’s definitely Simon, because Simon is Conan. Julius Belmont also gives off a strong old-school adventurer vibe. The others are a lot more distant but they are definitely a lot closer to that ballpark than most videogame heroes, characters like Richter and Alucard wouldn’t look that out of place fighting monsters next to The Spider or Elric. Again, there’s not many actual connections to pulp properties or periods, but the whole point of Castlevania is that you get to cartwheel through graveyards and whip your way through exploding skeletons and Frankensteins so you can give Dracula a wedgie. So I’m gonna actually say a Yes to this one.
Scrooge McDuck: Yes. He’s in the chart already, and really I probably could have placed him in the True Neutral section considering Scrooge was created in the 1900s-1950s time period and was pretty explicitly modeled after a pulp magazine kind of adventurer.
Tumblr media
The Joestars: No. I don’t consider Joseph a Pulp Hero in the first place, it’s really more Battle Tendency having an Indiana Jones globetrotting vibe than Joseph himself, I put the characters in the Radical Pulp Anarchy section as extreme examples to show how far you can conceivably stretch the term based on superficial connections. But I don’t get neither much of a pulp vibe from any of the Jojo parts besides Part 2, and pulp material has never been within Araki’s influences, and I obsessively catalogued all of them in my Jojo phase. You could maybe make an argument for Jonathan since he’s the old-school adventurer of the bunch, and maybe Jotaro since he’s both the wandering warrior type as well as Clint Eastwood in a school uniform, but at this point you gotta separate what’s “genre” and what’s “pulp”, and they can intersect without being the same thing.
Fast and the Furious: No. Pretty hard no, actually. I don’t think there’s even much of an argument there other than I guess they both have a reputation for being trashy low-class entertainment, but that kinda goes for way too many things to ever be placed under an umbrella term. The terms “high class” and “low class” don’t even really see much usage anymore in media discussion, they died and it’s a good thing we killed them.
Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Stratemeyer Syndicate was pretty specifically centered around hardback publications of juvenile adventure series, which means they could not be considered pulp characters in their time despite being from the 1930s, and in fact were pretty specifically defined as being the opposite of the pulp publishers of the period. Still, that distinction hardly matters much once people started talking about serial and radio and comic characters as pulp heroes, and currently a lot of what it takes for a character to be considered a pulp hero is just being from any kind of 1930s fiction. I wouldn’t include them in any listings but, you do you.
Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction: I mean, it’s kinda the big thing you get when you even look up the terms “pulp” or “pulp fiction”, by sheer osmosis it’s replaced the things those terms were created to define in pop culture popularity. It’s been forever since I watched it and I don’t particularly have any interest in watching any Tarantino movie, but I guess the fact that this is a movie with several different stories interconnected on crime drama and doomed love affairs and philosophical hogwash and bantering men of action is very much structured like a typical pulp magazine, which usually consisted on an anthology format that I suspect is what the movie may have been homaging. Either that, or it’s just named Pulp Fiction because it’s sleazy and gorey and shamelessly excessive and those are terms that are very much associated with the pulps, for better or worse.
