Submissions Open - Lo-Fi Steddie Zine Project
Link to Submissions
About this Project
The goal of this project is more to collect than to create.
One of the ways I got so into Steddie was through engaging with community online through Twitter and Tumblr. But even though the internet is forever, some ideas get lost.
The goal of this zine to collect snippets of Steddie fanlore and preserve it in zine form for future enjoyment.
The current open categories for works are:
Canon Threads
Alternate Universes
Omegaverse
BDSM
Contribute vs. Create
As stated about the goal of this is to collect not create.
What that means is that all content submitted should already be published on your timeline. This is for two reasons:
As creators of fic, drabbles, threads, and art, we don't need another project to do
Keep the project cost low - basically the cost of printing and postage.
Creators deserve to be compensated so their work so this zine is entirely voluntary and a labor of love. I will not be taking tweets and Tumblr posts from anyone that did not give permission.
What Can I Contribute?
For all zines the following items can be contributed:
Tweets and Twitter threads
Tumblr posts
Discord screengrabs
The parameters for the first zines are as follows:
Canon Threads
Anything and everything as long as it fits within the following "canon" - (1) Everyone lives and nobody dies ala pre-vol 2; (2) Steve and Eddie are aware of each others existence; and (3) No alternate universes that aren't plausible within the Stranger Things universe as it stands.
Examples of this include - characterizations, future plans, how they get together, upside down interactions, babysitting the kids, coping after the upside down, reunited in the future, etc.
Alternate Universes
Any sort of AU that is outside of ST canon
Any sort of AU that isn't A/B/O
Omegaverse
Anything in the realm of omegaverse is fair game
BDSM
These boys are spicy and we are too! Submit all your bdsm headcanons, flagging theories, and top/bottom thoughts.
If you aren't sure feel free to ask or submit whatever and see what sticks.
Rating wise we're going to stick with the E rating on AO3, and there will be SFW and NSFW options for purchase if there is high demand.
Please avoid DDDNE and Dark themes as the editor is a sensitive bean. Angst is fine.
Submission Lengths
About 2500 words
This includes thread fics (that are about 15-20 tweets) and tumblr posts.
If that thread went on to become a fic later in time, link it too so I can share that with readers.
All usernames will be kept on the contributing posts. You do not have to be active on twitter right now to submit, so archived and private tweets can be submitted, just allowed the @lofi_steddie account access.
Some examples of thread fics and headcanons are below
Example 1
Example 2
What Will It Look Like?
Lo-fi. Very lo-fi.
This is going to be me, taking screenshots of tweets and posts, gluing them on a page, and then copying it on a Xerox
It will not be in color. It will look DIY.
If you want to contribute art it will also be black and white.
The goal is to keep costs low and color ink is pricey
Do Contributors Get Copies?
Yes! You'll be the first to get them. If you contribute I'll do my best to make them free to you. If you are outside of the US a PDF version will be made available.

a very very genuine question: so its bad to repost art but no one says anything when people repost things from the source material/creator's sketches.....why?like sure everyone who likes it may recognize the style but there are plenty of fan artists i recognize immediately, new or old art, with or without. to me it just feels the same, like either dont repost art or people should be able to repost stuff, i dont see how they can work at the same time. and this isnt me saying people should be allowed to repost and all that bc i do understand the theory of why reposting hurts artists, just that the logic doesnt seem to fit once it extends to famous artists/creators. just bc its official and easily recognizable makes it okay? how does that work? again, there are plenty of fanartists who are easily recognizable and lose no money when people repost their work (bc they posted it for free) and from my own observation, it seems it just, somehow, makes them want to do art less (from what i have read from artists themselves). why do we not consider that when it comes to official creators? wouldnt they also feasibly be less motivated seeing their hard work plastered across the internet for free when thats the sole way they make their income? and its not a system where its solely sticking it to the man bc it hurts the artists income, as well. but if it makes them happy to see people enjoying and sharing their work with others, drawing interest, why isnt it the same with fan artists? people often repost art, not out of malice or intent to claim credit, but bc they enjoy it + want to share it, esp on social media where sharing isnt a feature (instagram, for example) again im not trying to justify reposting, just confused about the contradiction
First of all instagram does have a form of sharing posts- stories. Which yes they are temporary by default, but you can use the highlight feature to collect your favorite things you’ve shared from people right there on your own profile AND it links back to the original post and can permanently be on your profile as long as you keep it there. You can even label them and everything! But then moving on to answering more of your actual questions
To start: this is a very complicated thing. And I feel everyone trying to answer it might have slightly varied opinions.
I personally see a pretty clear distinction between ‘Officially published/released’ works (like comic book [as like you’ve probably seen I frequently post comic panels] or other materials that may have been released in creator guides, official video game art, promotional art for things, etc etc) as opposed to like, personal work and fanart. Because with official works:
There’s usually a source to buy it and you should if you’re referencing it a ton (while I don’t own every comic I’ve ever read I do have a lot and if I did read something first through illegal means [because some comics are just straight up hard to find due to age/being out of print] and enjoyed it I try to seek out a physical copy after if possible)
There is a level of far wider recognition (I know you personally might find fanartists’ styles recognizable but like, things that are in mainstream media.. have just such a higher profile. it’s not really comparable)
If you’re not supporting the official release you’re harming the big company that published it far more than the individual artist (like, the individual artist probably also wouldn’t appreciate it, because it can effect them for sure as well, but they’re not gonna be taking the brunt of the damage unless it was entirely self-published work, which I’d definitely categorize differently from what I’m mainly talking about here.)
Often fanartists/professional artists who aren’t that well known, in addition to wanting to just create work for the sake of it, also want to build their own platform, to have an audience that they interact with. Or like, if they’re offering commissions, a bigger platform puts you in a position where people will actually see the art and want to commission you. When you say reposts of smaller artists’ fanart doesn’t ‘loose them money’ because they didn’t charge to post it, you’re missing the fact that it makes them loose out on proper linked-back-to-them exposure. Especially like, when a repost account on insta or something says ‘ah yes credit to [username] on tumblr’ the vast majority of people who see it aren’t going to then open up a whole different website and look for the artist. Some people might! but if there’s anything i’ve learned from working professionally in arts marketing it’s that people want things that are convenient and directly in front of them. Someone who wants to see more works because they liked one is significantly more likely to click on the username of someone who posted it rather than opening up a browser or a different app and searching a separate name put in the caption.
Then honestly, I do feel weird about reposts of professional artists’ more personal works unless the artist has stated they’re fine with people reposting with credit. It should be about the comfort level of the artist. I think a lot of professional artists who aren’t in a position where they’re as worried about building a platform, because they already have one and might have professional connections/opportunities already lined up, might not really care about reposts especially on a website they don’t use. (Like tumblr. I’m coming at this mostly from a comics artist perspective here, but most professional artists I see are waaaay more active on twitter and instagram than tumblr) If it’s a website they don’t use, it’s not taking away from the platform they had been building there for themselves. And also, some artists really just don’t give a shit, which is their choice they can make with their work! But that’s not a universal thing. One artist being fine with their personal art being reposted =/= all artists being fine with it.
In my own experience as a fanartist, when I see my art reposted without credit, especially when it’s art I’ve also already posted on the same platform... it’s definitely disheartening. Even worse is when the repost gets even more attention than my original post. (something that has happened to me multiple times!) Like, it can get so upsetting!  Because it lets me know that someone else was using my art to build their platform and I got exactly zero benefit out of it. Then when it’s reposted with credit it’s a little less annoying, but I still don’t... get much out of it. Especially if it’s an instagram repost and they credit my tumblr not my account on there, since insta captions don’t actually do links unless it’s to other insta accounts. Also with insta for example, I have a 'business’ account set up so I can look at and track popularity of my posts and see how they’re doing as something to keep in mind when considering posting times, etc etc. When other people repost my art there I have no control over it. That sucks a lot! Also, when I quite literally ask people not to repost my art (it is IN! MY! DESCRIPTION!) and they still do, it’s just straight up disrespectful. I asked for a boundary to be respected with my work and people have just completely ignored it. That doesn’t feel good at all.
But, conversely, I’m gonna talk about my more professional irl work for a sec. I’m a graphic designer, so I do things like posters, logos, etc, When I design a poster for a client that is meant to be advertising something, even if it’s got my own original illustration or something as part of it, I know my name isn’t necessarily going to be attached to it the same way as it is with my personal work. I get a credit line somewhere, but that’s in a fine print probably not even on the poster itself at all, but that’s like, part of what I signed up for. I already get paid separately, I am giving permission for my work to be out of my own hands in that way. Professional work for a client is often setup in some way similar to this. I don’t get mad when I walk down the street and see a poster I made up somewhere without it directly ‘linking’/referencing back to me (aside from maybe my signature if it had an illustration), in fact I go ‘OMG ITS THERE ugh wait i see one pixel is off oh noooooo” and then move on with my day. It’s just an entirely different situation because that kind of work has a different arrangement from the start, where you know it’s going to be put in a different type of circulation.
So yeah, my word isn’t god here, but I definitely see official releases as having a different set of permissions based on the fact that they are published in an entirely different situation. And I think reposts of personal art aren’t cool if the artist isn’t okay with them, no matter how big a platform they have. Other people probably approach this with a slightly different perspective, but that’s mine!

Ce qu'il a donné Un an, deux ans, cent ans de bonheur Puis la vie te cueille comme une fleur || GW
☾♔; March 5, 2018 ☾♔; sotd: Котик by Alexander Rybak   ☾♔; comedian otd: JOHN OLIVER   ☾♔; GW To do list ☾♔; {G} https://goo.gl/XSTtMc ☾♔; mod(s): @themadmonarchist @maybones et moi
Title: lyrics from "Requiem" by Alma
--featured not-mine oc's - Eloise Avery | @themadmonarchist - Minah Delacroix | @maybones (see what I did there with the Serena and Blair positioning? -eyebrow wriggle thing-)
- - - x - - -
Updated GW to-do list: - Division of labour (we should really start saying when one of us starts working on something because otherwise we'll end up with redundancies since we think disturbingly alike) - the "chuck" problem: okay, tbh, it's more of an Ed Westwick problem than a chuck one. I don't know how you guys have reacted to the me too and time's up movements, but mine has been to cut all those men out of my sphere of entertainment, I even cut out "witch hunt", "not all men" type dudes, and "only fondled their breasts on tv and apologized for it" men (aka Ben Affleck), because time is up for all of you! Soz, not point, but since last October, Ed Westwick has been caught up in this, and thus far 3 women have accused him of ra.pe and a fourth of sexual misconduct. Now, I know it's not Chuck's fault that his portrayer is a ra.pist (allegedly), but there is still an issue with including his face, etc in aesthetics and gossip girl material because his face is that of a ra.pist's (allegedly). Tbh, I wanna leave him (Ed Westwick) out of material and only discuss Chuck and avoid showing his face or use a dreamcast instead, but like, I dunno what you guys wanna do. Chuck is a great character, although, early on, he was quite rap.ey, the character, and it does not help that his portrayer has since been revealed to be a ra.pist. Allegedly.
- also, going back up to the redundancy issues, I love both of your aesthetic collections and playlists, so for those, I was thinking for playlist, we should make one big playlist on spotify that's collaborative, so that everyone can add their music and it'll kind of be a huge explosion of musical tastes. But also, maybe have a collection that has a link on the group info for individual playlists for characters, and the group made by us and/or others. For aesthetic collections, basically the same idea with one big collaborative collection, and then that collection will have links to other collections (yes, I'm a little ocd).
- also, also, this is completely unrelated, but I was watching trevor noah's show and he made a joke about how much trump's male employees snitch and gossip like sht, but the woman haven't revealed squat. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpmlVWFTW8A) It's really funny, and honestly, stupid people fcking up in trump's circle very publically is basically what's keeping me alive. It's just hilarious how stupid some of these people are. ___________________________ Another Update (I'll leave those up until @maybones weighs in on them)
I was working on a draft of the group description to show you guys, and I was using a template of one of my old groups and rewriting stuff and changing it to suit our purposes and I realized how many freaking rules I have (I'm so picky), anyway, some of this stuff obvs won't be applicable (like, there's one about characters dying and I don't think we were planning on going that dark. although, serena was an accessory and chuck kind of killed his dad, so meh, maybe?) anyway, I wanted your opinions on what rules to keep and/or change:
✠ RULES AND GUIDELINES {GENERAL} ✠
I. Please be kind to each other. Your characters can be total jerks, but let us, the creators and/or writers be kind, polite, and respectful (aka, channel your inner Canadian guys). There will be absolutely ZERO tolerance of discrimination. You will be immediately removed from the group, and your actions will be documented and reported. PM me immediately if someone harasses you or you notice harassment between members. ⠀⠀Ia. If you want to be anonymous, for any reason, you can send in your complaints here {https://goo.gl/kbTXeU}, it's a google form, and it doesn't ask you verify your email, and the username option, is just an option, it's not required. If I need to make further contact/information from you regarding your concern, I'll make a group announcement vaguely describing your issue, and you can send in further information anonymously again. I'll be checking the form at least once a week.
⠀II. I'm not giving this any specific rating, however, I will say, you're free to include whatever "adult" content you want, whether it be swears, gore, or the dirty stuff (I'm totally a mature, grown up adult guys). However, do be careful of polyvore's stupid censors, use workarounds like writing your story in google docs, or accents for swear words.
⠀III. This is a non-elimination group,  but characters can die. It may be used for inactive members, or if you wanna kill 'em off or maybe revive as a ghost or something else. Permission will always be asked of the creator first (with the exception of characters belonging to inactive members, whose characters may be killed off as penalty).
⠀IV. If you miss 3 consecutive contests (without informing me), you'll receive an "x", "|" will be used to break up non-consecutively missed contests, anyway, if you miss 3 in a row, that will open your character to be killed by either myself or other group members. You will be notified, but your permission will not be asked. If you wish to rejoin at a later date, and you character has not been killed off, simply pm me and continue with whatever contest is in progress. If your character has been killed off, you can re-audition with a new one, and I will transfer your points to your new character.
⠀V. Always pm me, your vodka aunt mod, if you feel you'll be unable to enter a contest, your reason doesn't matter. Just let me know you can't get your entry in, that way you won't receive an "X".
⠀VI. Plotting will be left open throughout the group, however, please establish a few of these before contests begin, and always ask permission when using someone else's character(s) and be sure to tag them in your sets. Please, PLEASE work with others, I hate when people just do their own thing in oc battle groups, this is a collaborative story, everyone's stories and ideas matter. I will call you out if I notice something that contradicts the connected story, and I will always, ALWAYS incorporate the stories of group members into the overall narrative. ⠀⠀VIa. Narrative precedence will always be given to the person who completely finishes the description of their set first.
⠀VII. There is not a list of roles to pick from, you can create whatever roles you want, however, I may ask you to change it if I feel your character may become "villager number 6" and not fit in with the action. Rules, regulations, and suggestions for roles can be found here: [placeholder].
⠀VIII. Always be sure to tag the member's when you use their characters and give credit where credit is due.
⠀IX. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and you will be removed and reported. If you're inspired by someone else's work, credit them, otherwise you're stealing.
⠀X. Sets unrelated to the group will be removed.
⠀XI. You will NOT be required to write out a full story. Story portions can be answered in paragraphs, but full stories are always welcome and appreciated.
⠀XII. Do not use templates for contest entries unless otherwise stated.
⠀XIII. Always feel free to contact me with any and all questions, and/or suggestions. You can also send them through the anonymous complaints form, found here: https://goo.gl/kbTXeU

✠ RULES AND REGULATIONS {FACECLAIMS} ✠
I'm quite picky about these, but I'm not gonna be pedantic about it this time. You do you. Having said that, there are still some rules and regulations, as well as a challenge.
⠀I. All faceclaims must be above the age of majority (that's 18+ nearly universally on the planet), there is an exception for child characters but all main OCs must be at least 18.
⠀II. All faceclaims MUST be professionals. They can be actors, models, even singers. However, they must be singers of some note signed onto a label company, like Taylor Swift, or my beloved Dima Bilan (who's also an actor. a good one. yes, I'm bragging). Your faceclaim CANNOT be someone insta-famous, youtubers, or tumblr tweens.
⠀III. Whilst I'm not going to reject any faceclaim on the pedantic basis of "I don't like them", there are some faceclaims that I will and for one reason, and one reason only. Sexual misconduct of any and all kinds. Hollywood and the media are finally cleaning house, and I don't want those dicks in my nerd sht either. To be clear, I don't care whether the misconduct was simply groping a woman's breasts on camera and apologizing about 10 years later, I am going to reject everyone who's been accused. Examples include; Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Ed Westwick, Jeffrey Tambor, Danny Masterson, Andy Dick, Dustin Hoffman, and fcking Mel Gibson. (Side note, these are just actors, for a wider list of men who have fallen since the Harvey Weinstein story broke in October 2017, I recommend you check out this article {https://goo.gl/Uq65Qv} by the NY Times) ⠀⠀IIIa. If you notice I have accepted someone who has been accused of sexual misconduct/harassment/assault please inform me right away, and ideally with a link to a news source from where you learned about (I will google it myself, but the ready-to-go link would be much appreciated.) ⠀⠀IIIb. Also, Alec Baldwin is on my list of rejected faceclaims. He's not been accused of anything, yet, but I'm not liking his defensive attitude of alleged rapists. Fúck off. Matt Damon also falls under subsection B, for a slightly different reason, but fúck him too. In this watershed moment, I have no time for defensive d i c k s and "not all men" a s s h o l e s.
⠀IV. The Challenge: a lot of us have certain fave fc's we use over and over again (I'm certainly guilty of that), so my challenge is for you to use a faceclaim you have never used before as your primary oc. This is gonna be based on the honour system, some of you guys I may know well, so I'll know if you're using your fave again, but others I may not, and I can't aggressively stalk everyone, so I won't call out anyone for not doing it. It's just a fun little challenge, worth 10 bonus points, if you opt to do it. But again, it's based on the honour system, I'm not gonna stalk anyone, but if I know you and you lie to me on the audition form. First, I'll be hurt, and second, I'll say sorry and tell you you're not getting those bonus points.
(I know, two sets of rules makes me such a di.ck, it's why I need your help guys!)

MBUS ARTISTS TALKS:  Liz Rodda
Who is this person?
Liz Rodda was born and raised in California (Sacramento, I believe she mentioned), and currently lives and works in Austin, Texas, as an Associate Professor teaching Expanded Media at Texas State University.
What do they do?
Liz is a mixed-media artist who works primarily with found materials, especially videos on Youtube and other streaming platforms, and pairing videos and/or audio that weren’t meant to be shown together. Her aim, as I understand it, is to pair things that become more complicated in the presence of another, to change the way we see them by putting two unrelated things together, and to instill meaning to these videos beyond and despite the original intention of the creator.
What did they talk about?
Liz talked a lot about her motivations and driving factors with regards to the central themes of her work, as well as her processes.
Describe their working process?
She is drawn to video clips and audio clips that are strange and absurd in some sense, but also common or every-day, so she spends a lot of hours looking through videos on public platforms without any agenda at first until she sees something that catches her attention. She described herself as a “curator,” collecting random videos posted online that weren’t meant as art and placing them in that context to meditate on them more thoroughly. She has also worked with found objects to create sculptures and installations using the same philosophy.
Describe their philosophy?
She is both an optimist and a pessimist. She is very much into Camus’ works and drawn to the absurd, her works often reflect on the absurd by juxtaposing contradicting or unrelated visuals and sounds in an attempt to draw out meaning from both. She is really drawn to asking questions about meaning of life and believes that there is meaning and beauty in the struggle of life, which makes it all worthwhile.
Did you enjoy this speaker? Why or Why not?
I did enjoy listening to her thought process for her work and her explanations, I thought that they were very valid explorations.
Did they speak well both on presentation and content?
Yes, she spoke very concisely and showed examples of her work, speaking on each briefly.
What new information did you gain?
Liz spoke about a book I hadn’t heard of named “La Peste” by Albert Camus, who is one of her major influences.  I may pick it up.
What else did they talk about?
Someone asked her about her influences; she spoke about her interest in psychology and philosophy, pop culture, Camus of course, and experiences drawn from her personal life.
Another question someone posed was about how she deals with using other peoples’ videos and if she has to get permission to use them. She quoted a friend of hers who said he doesn’t get permission for his own health and happiness, so she doesn’t permission from the authors of the clips, she holds herself to her own ethical rules and standards. Essentially if someone puts something on Youtube, typically it gets repurposed and reshown.
She also spoke about current work she has been doing, which are paintings/drawings using a rapid mark-making technique. She is exploring ways to bring a formal line quality that is also humorous and playful, layered, and tumultuous.
Quote something of interest?
When she spoke about her installation piece, “Hot Zen Island,” some of the questions she mentioned it may raise we very interesting to me. She said, “What larger implications does the shutting down of the hooters mean in the context of today’s society-” and, “how does self-care fit in today’s capitalist society, do we link myths to industries to make them sexier?”
Tumblr media
HOT ZEN ISLAND Installation Hooter’s dust & construction debris, bamboo, tropical palms, fountain, industrial fan, lights, incense, Hooter’s dust sealed in plaster, sneaker, grow light, seeds, underlayment, sweat-stained t-shirt.

In the summer of 2010 John L. Bell emailed to ask if I would be available to do illustrations for the next issue of Oziana. I enjoyed working on the 2006 issue and happily said yes. Above are the covers by Charnelle Pinkney (2009) and Tim McGloughlin (2010). This was a double issue of the magazine, produced in flipbook style, combining both the 2009 and 2010 editions. My illustrations seasoned the story “Invisible Fence” by John L. Bell. We’d originally planned for me to do more illustrations but 2010 turned out to be chaotic – I was laid off from my day job and went back to school for “retraining” as a computer programmer. That left me with less time than expected. Deadlines loomed. Fortunately, John was able to rearrange the issue’s layout so the illustrations spread out evenly and cut down on printing costs. A review of the story can be found on Eric Gjovaag’s Wonderful Blog of Oz.

Story Seed #33
A sequel needn’t be a rerun: Alien 2
My previous story seeds featured story ideas that, basically, I’m giving away. If someone is inspired to grow a story from them they are wellcome to do so. No need to get my permission.
Using the ideas I’ll be mentioning in the next few weeks would require someone to get permission from the corporations that own the movies in question. The intellectual properties involved are not in public domain. All of these films have already had successful sequels. But part of the fun of having ideas is sharing them so …
Sequel (definition grabbed from Lexico): A published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one.
Alien. Terminator. Blade Runner. All three of these science fiction films had sequels. The sequels didn’t come immediately. They came years, even decades later. I enjoyed all the sequels as much, if not more, than the originals. That’s pretty rare. Most sequels are pale shadows of the originals. So my sequel ideas are suggestions, not of better stories, but of different directions the “franchises” could have taken.
Alien was released in 1979. It was the first released of the films I’m “sequeling” so I’ll write about it this week. It tells the story of the crew of the spaceship Nostromo, who are required to investigate a distress signal on an unknown world. They find an ancient spacecraft and pick up a deadly hitchhiker.
A sequel to Alien, Aliens was released seven years later. Ripley, the lone survivor of the Nostromo, accompanies a group of marines back to the planet of the alien ship and they must combat a nest of xenomorphs to escape. Like many sequels Aliens cements the pattern of the rest of the franchise. For Alien it’s humans vs. xenomorphs with a seasoning of corporate manipulation and evil. By focusing on the xenomorph, every Alien installment is a bug hunt. Part of what makes Alien such a great science fiction movie is that it suggests a much bigger world outside the confines of the story of the film. Space travel is common and a regular part of life. It’s not fast but it’s predictable. Android technology is good enough that human beings won’t be able to tell the difference between an android and another human. Extraterrestrial life has been encountered before. It’s not clear if humanity has met living extraterrestrial civilizations but the Nostromo’s crew doesn’t react as if evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations has never been found before.
Imagine if, in Alien 2, the story expanded out. Word of the space jockey’s ship has gotten out, either leaked by someone at Weyland-Yutani or because Ripley was found and told her story. Multiple expeditions have come to investigate the ship – a team from W-Y intent on officially staking their claim, a team from a rival corporation, and a contingent of military from a government enforcement arm. The jockey’s ship is ancient but it’s not dead and it contains more wonders and horrors than clutches of xenomorph eggs.
By focusing on the mysteries of the ship and the interaction between different human factions, Alien 2 could depict more of the big complicated universe suggested in Alien. The W-Y team would have more knowledge of the ship and the xenomorphs than the other teams. W-Y directed the Nostromo to the planet with the intention that it bring back a xenomorph or two, so clearly some other humans had found the ship in the past. Unfortunately (for them at least) their focus on the xenomorph will make them unprepared for other dangers and wonders presented by the ship.
H.R. Giger‘s designs for the xenomorph, the space jockey and the ship are some of the most alien looking depictions of extraterrestials to appear in the movies. Later designers were able to duplicate and extrapolate from those designs but no one surpassed them. They suggest completely non-terran biologies and non-human technologies. Why was the ship carrying all those xenomorph eggs? Where was it going? Are they weapons? Tools? A slave race? Lunch? The space jockey appears to have been killed by a birthing xenomorph. What went wrong?
If the xenomorphs are weapons, who or what were they meant to used against? Other space jockeys? Another alien race?
Does the space jockey’s civilization still exist? Have they advanced? Decayed?
The franchise did try to answer some of those questions in Prometheus, but by that time the xenomorph had become the toothy face of the series. It was too late to redirect the focus and, honestly, the answers the film presented were both uninteresting and didn’t make a lot of sense. The space jockey became just another humanoid ET who committed the ordinary human sin of creating the thing that would destroy it. More imagination was needed. Writers and designers who could think in cosmic terms should have been employed.
Imagine what the Alien franchise could have been if the alien xenomorph had been downplayed in the sequel and the focus had been on the alien space jockey and its alien ship instead. What wonders and terrors could we have experienced?
Other Newsletters
Technocult News by “Damien” focuses a lot on technology and, especially, how human prejudices and cultural blinders are incorporated into that technology. Damien gives me a regular reminder that technology is a created thing and its human creators build in flaws and dangers without realizing it. Our assumptions limit our thinking. Technology will always be used in ways we don’t consider so more consideration and inclusion of diverse designers and users when creating technology is ideal.
Lifestuff
A couple of weeks back my brother, Glenn, sent me a link to the proposed 42 words anthology. This week, instead of writing about my life like a good newsletterer, I wrote and submitted a story. It was an interesting exercise. First I wrote the shortest story I could think of based on my basic idea. Then I revised. And revised. The story had to be exactly 42 words. This paragraph is 74 words.
If the story gets accepted I’ll post about it. If it doesn’t I’ll post the story. I don’t have a time frame for either. After I submitted my entry I paid a little more attention to the rest of the blog and realized that submissions were first announced in July of 2018. As of February 8th they have accepted 483 stories. They are wanting 1764 stories. Only 1281 to go.
They’re accepting up to four stories per author. I may submit more. If you want to give writing a short short story a try, please do!
That’s if for this week. Enjoy each moment. If that’s not possible, enjoy as many moments as you can.

Trapped Among Mortal Things
Lack of knowledge leads to questions. Questions lead to answers. Answers lead to knowledge. Knowledge leads to trouble. Seems easy, doesn’t it? Seems logical.
It wasn’t always like this, not until Earth was created. In the beginning, the true Beginning, trouble didn’t exist. That’s due to the fact that knowledge didn’t exist either, at least not what people currently label as knowledge. Crowley, of course, remembers what it was like; They create you, They fill you with the bare minimum you’re required to know - your name, your identity, your purpose - and then you’re free to go. There was no such thing as lack of knowledge because no one was aware that maybe, just maybe, they didn’t have the keys to unlock all the secrets of the universe; no one was even aware that there were secrets of the universe in the first place. This means, obviously, that questions didn’t exist either and, by extension, nor did answers.
It is believed that questions were invented by Lucifer when he asked why angels should submit to human beings. That’s not quite true. What he really did was use free will to point out that there was no reason for humans to be put on a pedestal and venerated as the Almighty’s finest creations. The War in Heaven begun and ended, and questions still didn’t exist; without them, free will seemed rather pointless.
Actually, questions were invented by a pretty stubborn and curiously clueless Archangel. At first all he did was knock at the Lord’s door - despite everyone telling him it was a hopeless mission, that They weren’t there anymore - and requested, in utter reference, for permission to descend in Hell. It was an odd request, admittedly. He claimed that he couldn’t bear the thought of those poor souls suffering from the wounds inflicted to them during the War; no matter the horrors they had committed, no matter how awful their sins, they still were creatures of the Lord and, as such, deserved some kind of comfort. Of course, the permission wasn’t granted - nor denied, which seemed good enough for the Archangel.
So he crossed Hell’s entrance. His sincerity and good will meant nothing to the fallen angels, least of all to Lucifer, still too full of pride to admit his defeat, or even accept help of any kind. Raphael was thrown out without hesitation. It took him a while to realise the price that little visit had costed him; his innocence was forever lost, and, as a memento, his wings turned as black as the darkest night.
Being stubborn, the Archangel - not quite Fallen, nor quite full of Grace - knocked again at the Lord’s door, furiously, desperately. «Why? - he cried out - Why would You invent pain and suffering? Why would You cast them out instead of proving them the Holiness of Your Love?» He didn’t know it yet, but in that moment he invented questions, and all their dreadful consequences.
He also didn’t know that They were still there, contrary to the popular belief. The door slammed open, shockingly. Raphael felt a tingly warmth in the middle of his chest as a hand pushed him, and then there was coldness, as he fell for miles and miles. He had understood the theory behind pain, but feeling it? Feeling pain is a whole other matter than understanding it.
He landed in a pool of boiling sulphur, horribly disfigured and deeply broken. Raphael was no more, and the Almighty disappeared for good. It truly was the end of the War in Heaven.
Lack of knowledge leads to questions. Questions lead to answers. Answers lead to knowledge. Knowledge leads to trouble. Easy as that.
Crowley never regretted inventing questions, not once. He’s always thought it was quite a clever move of his. The real problem was that nobody had bothered inventing answers yet, so at first one couldn’t see the brilliance of being able to ask questions; they seemed rather pointless.
Despite not existing yet, Crawly had a vague idea of what an answer should look like; it has to make sense and be satisfying, even when you don’t like it, no, especially when you don’t like it. But he couldn’t invent answers himself, having invented questions already, so all he could do was wait for someone to do the job.
Crawly was quite sure that knowledge was somehow linked to answers. At that time, knowledge did exist - as established previously - but it wasn’t part of this particular equation yet. The chain was more like: free will leads to questions, questions lead to trouble. Crawly was aware of the missing link, having thought about the issue for a long time. He was therefore delighted upon discovering that there was a tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden that could grant mortals knowledge. He was even more so upon discovering that Lucifer - no, not Lucifer, not anymore, Satan now - was looking for somebody to go up there and make some trouble. Obviously, he volunteered.
He didn’t really need to make trouble; he just had to lead the humans to ask questions, that was all. He crawled to Eve, mostly because she seemed more interesting than Adam. She also seemed to have a better understanding of her own free will.
«You see that tree? It’s called the Tree of Life and its fruits grant you the ability to tell the difference between good and evil. Such a pity God forbid you to eat them.»
«Why?»
Technically, you can’t see a snake smiling, but in that particular case one could feel the serpent’s cheeky grin. «Indeed. Why?»
He slithered away, hiding himself between the bushes to watch the Fall of Man from a safe spot. If he was lucky, soon enough humans would’ve invented answers. But that’s not what happened.
It is believed that answers were invented by the Almighty in response to a stubborn Archangel’s question, when he explained to him that, hadn’t They invented pain, there would have been no balance in the universe, things could’ve never worked in the long run; it was ineffable. That’s not quite true. They tend to ignore questions, so it wouldn’t have made any sense for Them to come up with answers.
Actually, answers were invented by a pretty clueless and curiously atypical angel. He was supposed to smite demons on sight and yet, once Crawly started talking to him, he was too polite to even ignore him. Yes, as soon as he heard the snake’s doubts, he had started babbling about the ineffability of the Great Plan, which was such a tedious subject; but at least he wasn’t rude, nor entitled. And then…
«Didn’t you have a flaming sword?»
«Er.»
«You did, didn’t you? It flamed like anything. It looked very impressive, I thought.»
«Er, well…»
«Lost it, have you?»
«Oh no! Not exactly lost, more…»
«Well?»
«If you must know, I gave it away.»
Two things crossed Crawly’s mind. First of all, this was no common angel. What kind of angel gives away his God-given weapon to mortals who, on top of it, had just been punished? It was a miracle he hadn’t fallen. But, to be fair, those days God was nowhere to be found; probably They weren’t paying too much attention.
Second, he had answered his question. “Have you lost your flaming sword?” “No, I gave it away.” Simple as that. He hadn’t batted an eye, as if answers had always existed. In the end, there was no need to wait for humanity to sort it out.
He couldn’t help but smile. Things were about to get really interesting. And this angel, this Aziraphale, seemed really worth to be liking.
Lack of knowledge leads to questions. Questions lead to answers. Answers lead to knowledge. Knowledge leads to trouble. But it’s not so easy.
It’s not so easy, because sometimes lack of knowledge leads to blissful ignorance, which may lead to either happiness or violence; sometimes knowledge leads to satisfaction or peace; sometimes questions lead to more questions, or answers lead to even more questions, in a vicious circle that can’t be broken because sometimes, sometimes, there are no answers, no matter what.
Crowley shouldn’t keep asking questions - one thinks he should know better. And yet… And yet he still does. He never stopped. His curiosity, his need for answers, turns always out to be stronger than any fear of consequences, however big or frightening they might be.
But they’re drowning everybody else?
What did he say that made everybody so upset?
What the deuce are you doing locked up in the Bastille?
Should I say thank you?
He likes asking questions to Aziraphale. He knows that, no matter what, he’ll always get an answer back. It’s comforting. It almost makes him forget how bad questions can be, it makes him feel like it’s not wrong to pursuit knowledge, like he himself - his own strange existence - is not wrong for being curious.
However, thing is, sometimes Aziraphale is not enough. He doesn’t understand the Ineffable Plan no more than Crowley does, and that’s frustrating. So, he plays with fire; he talks to the Almighty Themselves. He’s aware of the dangers but he’s not afraid. After all, what’s the worst that could happen to him? He’s already fallen.
God, You listenin’?
He’s not sure why he still bothers. There’s nobody up there, there hasn’t been for such a long time that one might even question the existence of a Creator in the first place. And Crowley probably will, one day, given his nature. But not quite yet. For now, he just looks at the starry sky and wonders where in the damn universe are They hiding.
For now, he just looks at the starry sky. He thinks about how long it would take to travel to the end of the universe, how long would it take to search it all, every planet, every nebula, every galaxy. He decides an eternity is not enough.
(He think about mountains and brave little birds and spaceships travelling at the speed of light)
What he does know for certain is that the universe itself won’t last that long. Protostars become red giants, which become white dwarfs; supergiants become nebulae or supernovae, neutron stars and black holes. He knows, for he had built them, a very long time ago; he created those intricate patterns, those complex chemical reactions that lead one way or another depending on as little as a the presence or absence of a single atom, those delicate physical laws that maintain everything in balance, a graceful dance across the light-years. There’s so much beauty out there, but it won’t last; the universe runs towards entropy and there’s no stopping it. Even if there’s no Apocalypse to destroy the Earth, life is ultimately doomed in such a cold and hostile environment. What’s the point of it if… there’s no point at all?
Hey, God, can You show me the Ineffable Plan? Not all of it, You can just spoil me the ending, will You?
Crowley feels lost, without references, without meaning. He tries not to think about it. He tries to keep himself busy - some little temptations, lunch at the Ritz, a bottle of wine - but ultimately he feels like a tightrope walker, torn between cheap materialism, existential dread and hopeless cynicism.
And so he asks, question after question. And so he longs for all the things he’s lost and all the things he’ll never reach.
Trapped among mortal things (even the starry sky will end) why do I yearn for God?

Sterek Reversebang Feedback BINGO
Hi everyone!
Now that the stories have started posting, and you’re hopefully all diving into the awesomeness that our artists and authors created, it’s time for us to say: don’t forget to show them how much you liked the stories and art!
So, to encourage all readers (yes, even those of you who created works for the RB) to do more than kudos or like the works in this year’s reversebang, we’ve decided to do a:
FEEDBACK BINGO
The idea is borrowed from Star Wars Writer Alliance (used with permission) and amended to our needs.
FAQ:
what’s a feedback bingo? it’s a list of ways to give artists and authors feedback on their works.
do I need to sign up to participate? no, there are no sign ups for this
how do I participate? at the bottom of this post, you’ll find a list of ways to give our authors and artists feedback, from a kudos or a like, through comments, to appreciation posts. Do as many of these as you like, and take note of the stories/art you’ve given feedback to. At the end of the event, we’ll ask that you compile a list of the items from the list that you did along with the fics/art you’ve done them for, thus creating your personal rec list.
is there a deadline? because our authors are stars who write way more than the minimum limit for this event, you’ll have the whole month of August to read, comment, feedback in any way you want to. You can make your compilation list earlier though.
are there prizes? as of now, no. This bingo is about rewarding the creators for their hard work, and appreciating their contributions. (watch this space though ;))
anything we didn’t answer? email or send us an ask
Rules:
BE NICE! Do not leave critique unless the author specifically requested it in their notes or tumblr post. As the old saying goes: “if you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. Show love to the stories you enjoyed, give a chance to authors you haven’t read anything from before, but do not post hate or complaints. If something is genuinely harmful in a story (or something isn’t tagged appropriately), find a way to approach the author privately and not anonymously. Help them, don’t lecture or chastise.
Don’t like, don’t read, don’t comment. You don’t have to read all the stories. Mind the warnings and the tags.
DO NOT REPOST! Art especially, but also fic. Link to the original post, reblog with comments, DO NOT post art pieces on your own blog/twitter directly.
Keep track of what you commented on, reblogged, recced, tweeted about, etc, including the links to the works.
The Bingo Card will be posted at the end of the event, and you will be able to see how many squares you’ve managed to mark off. If you choose to do this, it’s not necessary to fill the whole card (5x5 for fic, 3x3 for art), but you can if you want to.
Have fun! The aim of this bingo is to show our creators appreciation. Whether you’re one of them, or you’re a reader, leaving comments and showing love to creators is encouragement and it’s very important fandom currency.
Your SRB Mods
Ways to leave feedback:
For fics:
Kudos a fic Just felt like leaving a kudos? Lost for words? Not in the right frame of mind for leaving a comment?
“Downloaded for future re-reads” Did you like the story so much that you saved it so you could read it again and again?
Bookmark a fic as rec When you’re bookmarking, tick that little “rec” option, so people can see it on AO3 (and don’t make it private, that defeats the point ;))
Reblog tumblr post for fic Look in the notes on the author’s post, look in the #sterekreversebang tag on tumblr, or look at the author’s tumblr - if they have a post made for their story, reblog it. Or reblog the art post that links to the fic.
Comment on fic from week 1 Pick a story posted in the first week (July 2 to July 7) and leave a comment. (caveat: comment should be at least one sentence)
Comment on fic from week 2 Pick a story posted in the first week (July 9 to July 14) and leave a comment. (caveat: comment should be at least one sentence)
Comment on fic from week 3 Pick a story posted in the first week (July 16 to July 21) and leave a comment. (caveat: comment should be at least one sentence)
Comment on fic from week 4+ Pick a story posted in the first week (July 23 to July 31) and leave a comment. (caveat: comment should be at least one sentence)
Keysmash comment
Words? What are words? Did a fic leave you incoherent? (doesn’t have to be the only thing in the comment, but the comment must contain a keysmash)
“Thank you for writing/sharing”
Sometimes it’s the little things. And the short comments. They still count.
“Extra kudos” When the kudos button gives the doomed “You already left kudos here” message.
do a live read of a fic on tumblr or twitter (or in the AO3 comment section) Sometimes we read and want to comment on the minutiae of the story. Do it. Ramble all you want, make multiple posts, comment from the beginning of the story to the end.
Twitter rec Got twitter? Use it. (don’t forget to mention the author’s username, and link to the fic!)
Long (2+ long paragraphs) comment
Found a fic that made you say all the things (nice though)? Felt like writing a whole essay of your thoughts?
Comment on multiple chapters of a single fic

“Best ___ I’ve ever read” What was the one thing that you’ve read in works before, but this one fic did extra well?
Character appreciation
Is there a character that you think was extra awesomely written? (canon or OC, it’s all good.)
All the FEELS Did the fic give you specific feels? Made you cry? Made you happy? Made you sad? Made you giddy with joy? Did you get butterflies in the stomach or did it drop in fear?
Comment on <10k fic
Comment on >10k fic
Comment on a fic with <100 kudos  (if all our fics reach 100 kudos, this option will be amended)
Comment on fic with <20 (unique) comments (see above. replies from authors don’t count)
AU appreciation Got special love for the Alternate Universe the story was set in?
Art interpretation Loved how the author spun the idea that the artwork sparked?
Rec on FB/Discord/elsewhere Make a recommendation post outside the already mentioned places (not AO3 itself, as that is against their terms).
For art:
reblog art
tag commentary
like art
AO3 comment
send artist askbox love
reblog caption comment
artist appreciation post

How this Blog Works
Okay everyone, starting from the top? This blog is not about what’s canon. This blog will never be about what’s canon. Yes, it may touch on canon points, might even come very close to seeming canon to the readers in places, but anything here is someone’s headcanon. That means that if it does not line up with whatever you view as canon, that’s just fine because that’s not what this blog is for.
See?
Headcanons posted here might be contradictory to one another. They might encompass views that highlight certain things that one person believes and another does not. They might touch on things that you disagree with, and that, too, is just fine.
Please be respectful.
The purpose of this blog is two things. Firstly, it’s for the creator to consolidate all amassed headcanons of her own to one place. Secondly, it’s to make a place where people can take inspiration for their own characters and possibly use headcanons on the blog for their own purposes.
This means that if you don’t like other people having the same headcanons as you, you should probably not submit any of them here.
How to get your headcanon posted here!
This, friends, is ridiculously simple. Submit it to the blog. There are multiple ways to do this, and one of them is to simply use the submit option and do it that way.
Another way, if you have a post you only want reblogged here but have linked to your blog is to contact the keeper of this blog and link them to the post with the request it be on the blog. Please note that any linked posts must not be under a Read More. We don’t want posts being unreadable if the original creator decides to leave the community! Because of this, we must decline anything under a read more from the archive.
Acceptable Material
Headcanons you came up with.
Headcanons that you had a large hand in the forming of.
Headcanons where your group is all on board with you sharing and they want to show them off.
An explanation for a canon thing that was never properly explained.
Theories about things between canon characters.
Theories about alternate methods for how bloodlines came about.
Stories that explain something about the world.
Personal Worldbuilding for the world.
Theories (either serious or ridiculous) about how the villages and clans work.
Maps!
Alternate Universe theories and worlds (Please indicate it’s meant to be AU! And yes, there will be a category for these if they are popular enough.)
There are likely more, but feel free to try your luck on a Submission.
Material that will Not Be Accepted
Fanart of characters. (While tempting, too much art on the internet ends up reposted without owner credit)
Debates. (For Submissions we’ll only take work from one author, this does not apply to reblogs as such.)
Negativity. (I will not accept any form of hate for characters or storylines)
Anything to do with people in the community. (Positive OR negative. This blog is not about players and authors)
Things the submitter did not write or does not have permission to share.
One True Canon commentary. (This blog is to explore the imagination of the fandom, not to stifle it. Everyone has things they view as canon and I will not pick and choose what those things are.)
Happy Headcanoning!

- - -  I do not take requests. I sometimes react to suggestions, but don’t expect me do draw it - - -
How can I call you? Mali… Mali is fine. Some go by “M'lady”, but I prefer Mali :)
Can I call you senpai? Please no… that’s just wrong.
Pronouns? She/her
When is your birthday? 8th April
Where are you from? Germany.
What languages do you speak? German, english and russian (only speaking and some reading) Oh yeah, I can read a little bit french :D
Where do you work? I won’t talk about private stuff :) So please accept that.
Private stuff? Nop, I won’t answer them, if I don’t want to.
I’d like to talk to you but I am so shy…. Don’t be. I always try to respond everyone who writes me. Sometimes I need time for that…. sometimes I reply at once. It really doesn’t matter, but I do reply and I am always kind :)
What tools do you use? Mouse and my Wacom Intous Pen -graphic tablet. I also draw a lot of traditional stuff. Pen and Paper ftw.
Programs? Photoshop Elements 7(yes.), Clip Studio Paint, Sai, Manga Studio Debut 4.0
You’re so talented! I’m not… honestly. I’ve been drawing for 10 years now, it’s all practise. And I stopped drawing alot… losing motivation and strength for it.
Arts School? Arts profession? Nop, all self-taught. No arts profession here.
You’re being rude… I’m sassy, I’m rude and I’m honest. Deal with it.
How did you learn to draw??
Do you stream? Sometimes…. rarely… Here
Swapfell Dawn is my AU and my take on on the term “Swapfell” and has nothing to do with it’s original creator Kkhopangg(KH) or Fellswap.
The comics I’m doing use the base of my AU. They are different to the popular versions and their story and personality belong to me. I was inspired by other artists on their design, but I developed them all alone.
Do you have a masterlist for Swapfell Dawn/Sympathy? Yes, but it’s only available for PC users… I am too lazy to make an extra post that I have to update too… sorry.
My Swapfells are inspired by yours! Credit always the person with the original idea. I also stated that KH had the original idea. But I didn’t know them back then and just started a story with the term “Swapfell = A Swap that fell”
I love the swapfells because of you! You are the Creator of Swapfell for me! I feel very, very honored about this statement, but it’s wrong in some way. The first idea was given by KH and I don’t want to take their title. And I don’t want people to force to take it. But I am very happy that I could make this AU interesting for you. Since that Swapfell/Fellswap debate I am even more determined to call my Swapfells “Sfd!sans aka. Black” and “sfd!papyrus aka Pup”. They belong to the Swapfell Dawn universe that splits from the mainstream line, so I won’t disturb the peace there. Of couse you can see it as your headcanon for Swapfell, I will feel more than honored. After all there was no real plot for them so far and this is just my take on…. Mweh
I want to hug your sfbros! This is a hugfree zone. Please stop sending me asks about that.
I want to hug you! I’m spiky, get the fck away from me. I am picky about hugs D:
Hugs? Never.
I want to hug you/Black/Pup! These asks will be ignored. You can go and hug stripper Jerry.
Can I create my own stories with your Swapfell Dawn boys?
No. Because I am still working on Dawn and I don’t want others to use my idea for them in their stories. If it’s about fanart/fanfictions for my story then it’s okay. But don’t make your own thing with them.
My Swapfell Dawn bois are known as “Black” and “Pup”. Pup calls his Sans “M'lord, sire, lord or Sans”… Black calls him “Mutt, Pap, Papy (special cases), Papyrus or other creative names to degrade him”
Suggestions and HCs for the SFD bois? You can write me about them, but don’t expect me to adapt them :)
You didn’t answer my ask Sorry… sometimes I delay answering stuff and I get honestly a ton more asks than I would’ve dared to imagine…. I love you all but shit… please don’t be mad if I take my time or don’t answer at all…. x.x
That music fits your Sfd!Bois! Feel free to send me stuff! I always listen to it, but I didn’t come to answer the previous suggestions… ahh.. so lazy me…
Is Sympathy on hold? Yes and no…. I will draw it when I feel like it.
Will Sympathy be continued at all? At some later point yes. I won’t stop that project.
When do you update your comics? That depends on my free time and mood. It’s always different. Sometimes I just need breaks….
There are different designs for your SFD!Bois… I change them from time to time. Sometimes depending on what I display and if it happened before or after Sympathy. Sympathy influences the final design of the Swapfell Dawn bois.
Can I call your AU still Swapfell? Yes, but since it’s my Au with MY story, MY design and MY interpretation, I’ve decided to give it an extra name so people won’t get confused about it anymore. I’m not using the design of others anymore.
Do not repost my art/comics without my permission. Do not sell/edit/whatever my art. If you want to have prints, then you can purchase the art and I’ll send you a higher resolution.
Can I use your art as icon? As BG on my Phone/PC…. Yes, but please to credit me. And I don’t mind if you use my stuff as background for your devices! What an honor!
I want to translate your comics…. First write me and get permission. I will talk about this with you.
My art/idea was inspired by yours… Credit me then. Because it’s rude and unfair to state it was your idea all alone. This involves character design, such as using my Swapfell bois as reference.
Can I draw SFD!Sans/SFD!Papyrus/SFD!Muffet/SFD!….? Can I write a fanfiction about them? Yes, sure! I don’t know why you want to do fanart for me, but jfc just do it! I am always happy to see my bois/my AU figures drawn in your style! Why would I not allow it? I love them and if you love them too, then it’s even better! And yes, you can also write fanfictions about my story, my pictures or whatever! Many talented writers already gifted me fantastic short fanfictions! I’ll be more than eager to read them! But sometimes I don’t have that much time, so please don’t be disappointed D:
Just please credit that you used my design/my AU there :D Less confusion for others and respect for me. Please don’t pretend it’s your design/idea, that’s what I wouldn’t like to see. And please don’t forget it’s your creation, so it’s not part of my AU unless I state that it’s an addition for it.
I drew fanart for you! I wrote a fanfiction for you! Just pm me, tag me or whatever, so I can see it. I usually always review stuff I get and comment on it. But don’t expect me to reblog it. It’s my decision after all. And please make sure that people don’t think that your fanfiction or art is part of the actual story, if you do art of it more often :) I tag stuff that belongs to the AUs I am working on.
Can I cosplay your Swapfells? YES!? Just credit my stuff and SHOW ME JFC
Requests? No.
I want a commission! Take a look at my commission page!
I want to support you! Comments, Reblogs, Pms…. I take it all.
I am also a huge fan of reading tags. They are sooooo cool at times.
You can also support me with Hot Chocolate <3</p>

How to react if you see my stuff stolen/reuploaded/sold…. First off: Just pm and link me. I will check if I know that guy, talk to them…and if they ignore me then I’ll try to report them or something.  I guess I have to learn to deal with this too. It’s just sad to see how they don’t respect work of others. I mean this happens to every artists. Don’t panic… i I just want people to be honest and some are not…

SarasBeautyCorner VS NerdECrafter
TL;DR I side with SaltECrafter and Sara’s argument falls flat because of several different factors.
Read more if you’d like to know how I came to my verdict. Also, I’m sorry that I can’t ever not make a massive wall of text when I review things lol.
*edit*
Hey Hi :D
I made a video about this on my youtube Channel Check it out if you’d like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQbg8KpQbOk&t The SaltE Debacle
I feel very compelled to write this after watching Sara’s video as a response to Jackie’s videos. At the moment I’m actually in the midst of writing a paper on moral justice and legal justice. Why I think they should co-exist within each other.
However, I have to take a break from this paper to make a rather long-winded lengthy comment/review of this video. I don’t want to dismiss either persons’ feelings as they are justified in this case. I merely want to point out where they might be mistaken and give an overall review of how I think both sides might not be handling it in the best manner.
I will be dissecting both Sara’s responses to Jackie’s videos and like-wise Jackie’s responses to Sara’s allegations/Jackie’s allegations towards Sara etc.
I’m going to try to do this in an unbiased matter as I always want to see both sides of someone’s story before I make the final verdict.
Not to act like I’m the Youtube courtroom or something (That’s just silly).
(Source links will be placed where appropriate)
First, let’s go into a quick synopsis of what has happened for anyone just taking this in at first glance.
Jackie (AKA NerdECrafter or in this case SaltECrafter) took it upon her self to make a review solely based on satire and the fact that as a teacher she calls bull on this fooling any sane, university trained educator.  She was reacting to SaraBeautyCorner’s video on 3 back to school DIYs. She took clips from Sara’s video and inserted it into her video criticizing these “hacks”.
Sara than holds Jackie’s video because she believes that it is in violation of copyright/fair use. Also holding onto the monetized earnings of said video.
Jackie “retaliates” by posting a video claiming that Sara is holding her video hostage because she believes it infringes on her content and therefore is in violation of copyright/fair use. Jackie states its not in violation because it’s commentary based on Sara’s DIY video and that Sara is claiming she COMPLETELY Uploaded her entire video to her channel. She claims that Sara is being “unfair”.
Sara responds that she’s not being unfair that Jackie took 30% of her content and reuploaded it without her permission and that violates the fair use/copyright claim.
Now that we’re caught up on that; let’s pick one side to dissect. Let’s pick Sara side first.
Sara claims Jackie took around 30 percent of her  21:02 video(upon further research this is in fact allowed) . She states in her video that she took 6 min. 30 sec. of her content that she didn’t give permission for Jackie to take to use in her react video. She takes clips from Jackie’s video about why she doesn’t believe she’s in violation of copyright/fair use.
Sara dissects Jackie’s video in such a way that it makes Jackie seem childish and rude. Sara believes that for Jackie to respond the way she did towards her retaliation in holding on to Jackie’s content and money. Stating that she got attacked by Jackie’s fans. Such as threats, insults, and other negative comments on something her boyfriend and her worked on for weeks than she changes it to months. She states she’s not hurt about Jackie’s commentary but rather that she took SOO much of her video without asking. That she could have taken a lot less to make her point more coherent. She states that Jackie’s video is entirely illegal and asked Jackie to take it down or use fewer clips from her DIY.
Jackie denied her request as she believes that her satire and commentary meets the fair use qualifications.
Sara quotes the four factors of fair use
1. Purpose and character of the use, commercial or educational non-profit
2. Nature of the copyrighted work
3. The amount used
4. The effect of the use on the potential market
So becoming unbiased to Sara’s outcries I decided to look into her claims as to why it’s infringing on her “creative work”.
So let's get into it:
Source
First, the purpose and character of the content
Did Jackie’s commentary and satire transform/add a new expression or meaning to Sara’s content?
I believe that it did. Jackie continually makes comments, reacts, and applies satire to Sara’s DIY/hacks. She explains from a professional educators point of view that if any of these “hacks” were applied in the classroom to smuggle or otherwise break the rules. That they would be made a fool. That in a way the kids/students’ parents who fork out money for supplies that are often very expensive are disrespected because their children are ruining these supplies that they spent hard earned money on to assist their studies.
That a large amount of sugar will distract the students from learning correctly.
Did Jackie add value to the original by creating new information, new aesthetics, new insights, and understandings?
I believe that Jackie did.
The pieces of information she provided:
That those children might not gain proper education because they’re following these hacks instead of studying.
That parents are essentially wasting their money on school supplies because their child will only destroy them.
I’m going to interject that from my experience in customer service that children that watch youtube DIYs/crafting and Vlogging are very impressionable. They are often between 5 and 8 and that they idolize the people who make the content. My experience once was from work when a 6-year-old pretended she was vlogging and talking to her viewers as her mom said: “She’s going through a youtube phase.” The second is my niece and nephews like to emulate their favorite youtube gamers.
I don’t believe that new aesthetics were applied except maybe if we apply it to the criticism of Sara’s video then yes. I believe this might be a weak argument.
Jackie gave new insights on how her fellow co-workers and parents might feel if they got an evaluation stating that their child is destroying their supplies to break the no food rule.
I believe Jackie’s point of view gave new understandings as to why this might be destructive to a students education.
The first rule has been followed to a point. Of course, as the article points out this is subjective. However, I believe by using the fair use guidelines she followed the first rule.
Rich Stim gives an example that I’m going to cite from his blog which I believe both content creators are taking from:
Rich Stim states: “In a parody, for example, the parodist transforms the original by holding it up to ridicule. At the same time, a work does not become a parody simply because the author models characters after those found in a famous work. Purposes such as scholarship, research, or education may also qualify as transformative uses because the work is the subject of review or commentary.”
Jackie did ridicule it ( sometimes harsher than maybe she should have). She also didn’t take on the exact likeness of the characters only their actions with an undertone of mocking the actions of the characters.
Second, the nature of the works:
Sara’s content is a parody of Jackie’s profession and Jackie’s video is a parody of Sara’s content. Though Sara’s video wasn’t directly pointed at Jackie nor was she bullying Jackie when she was portraying teachers as dense and aloof.
Likewise, Jackie was not bullying Sara. She was only showcasing as to why she thought these “hacks” were pointless.
So the nature of these two works is both informative.
Sara the student- Teachers seem to be mean and don’t understand the pains of hunger and needing that sugar fix.
Jackie the teacher- Students should focus on their studies not their stomachs if it becomes a distraction when there are healthy alternatives.
Looking at this subjectively and wanting to point out neither of their feelings are wrong I can understand why Sara might have felt attacked however the nature of Jackie’s commentary is not as nefarious as Sara likes to point out quite a lot in her response video.
Third, the amount and substantiality of the Portion Taken
According to Rich the less of the content, you take the better that your case may be excused from a copyright strike but quite on the contrary as this subject is strictly a parody
Rich states:  “This rule—less is more—is not necessarily true in parody cases. A parodist is permitted to borrow quite a bit, even the heart of the original work, in order to conjure up the original work. That’s because, as the Supreme Court has acknowledged, “the heart is also what most readily conjures up the [original] for parody, and it is the heart at which parody takes aim.” (Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, 510 U.S. 569 (1994).)”
So, in this case, Sara’s argument is somewhat invalid in this rule. Jackie did, in fact, follow this guideline. Because Jackie’s video is as she states “Parody and commentary”.
And my review of Jackie’s video is that it is satirical commentary.
Finally, the effect on the potential market.
Did Jackie’s satirical commentary damage Sara’s potential earnings?
I’m looking at Sara’s social blade and no it did not. She has 9mil subscribers and counting.
This argument is also invalid.
30% is such a small percentage of the video that it would barely affect any of her income if at all.
So reading Rich Stims article there’s also more information I’d like to cover in this review. He points out of course that my review will contradict itself or conflict with the rules stated above but that I have to make subjective judgments.
My judgment in Sara using the four factors of fair use to support her complaint overruled. Because Jackie did, in fact, follow the four rules as her video is a parody if not considered constructive criticism in the form of her commentary.
Jackie never claimed even by monetizing it that she owned Sara’s entire video content. She only used so very little of Sara’s content.
I think in order for Jackie to ever avoid this kind of backlash she should ask permission even if she thinks she shouldn’t have to. Jackie is neither above other content creators or below them.
I also think Sara needs to step off of her high horse a little and stop acting like her content is the bee's knees of the crafting world. It’s not. Aesthetically pleasing if high saturation and dorky faces are your aesthetic.
I definitely think Rich Stims Measuring Fair Use is excellent for using in arguments but you have to step outside your own critiques of Jackie’s work and look into your own. Sara, you are not above being criticized by other content creators and as I watched your response video I felt like you had a higher than thou attitude towards Jackie. That you thought her content was lazy and poorly executed.
Your response video was very redundant. You kept mentioning how you’re not a saint no youtuber is a saint. That you think that it’s extremely lazy that content creators take portions from other creators to make viable reviews on their videos.
You said that it's completely irrelevant to you that Jackie made commentary but that she took too much footage when she took the allotted percentage.
You continuously make contradictory arguments toward Jackie. That Jackie said you were punishing her but that you weren’t. In the beginning, you mentioned that you had three options. Hold her video to ensure that she never does that again. That is precisely what a punishment does.
That you’re not annoyed that she made a review but that she took too much of your footage which is a complaint and in your video, you’re clearly irritated.
You both say that 20% is allowed you’re both mistaken it’s 30%
For Jackie, if you would like my constructive criticism:
It’s dangerous out there take this
I feel Jackie was entirely within the guidelines of fair use upon the evidence received and that Sara’s response falls flat.
My verdict remains the same from my comment on Sara’s Response video. That I believe that Sara might be a little bitter from Jackie’s satirical commentary.
I feel if this would be taken to court that it would probably be dismissed if fair use is the only thing you have. If Sara thinks she can bring in the other factors
Like:
Intellectual Property and Creative Commons
IP doesn’t apply here because Sara’s video doesn’t benefit society it is in my point of view strictly for entertainment purposes.
The only thing in Sara’s video that was CC was the music
I was going to dissect Jackie’s video but as both videos are so closely intertwined I feel as though that would just be beating a dead horse.
The only advice I would give SaltECrafter is to ask and if they don’t give a butthurt response and give the green light you’re good to go.
