So are you looking forward to the live action How To Train Your Dragon?
Hello!
I am gonna be honest, I am not what you can call stocked about the live action.
While one part of me is indeed curious, I am more an anime enjoyer so to me, live action adaptations of animated things are... meh. Not my cup of tea.
However, it was a nice susprise to see that stoick will stay the same xD.
However, this is just me. Old grumpy me. Don't mind me.
Also, i am a pretty... pessimistic person sometimes. I am scared of the potential results, but if I am wrong, I'll be happy about it no problem!

I ONLY SENT YOU SIMPING AND BRAINROT SCENARIOS TILL NOW SO HERE I COME WITH AN ANGSTY ONE
what if ever since mc came into twisted wonderland they’ve been slowly absorbing magic ? like their body started to adapt themselves to the logic of these worlds and its just accumulate inside of them
so they’re absorbing magic but the problem is they also absorbs the blot and since they don’t have anything to clear it it just stays stagnant .
life goes on grim’s overblot is over , but then mc fainted .
well i mean who wouldn’t be tired after such battle ? multiple persons have been injured so that isn’t really that worrying right ?
well mc isn’t waking up
one day , one week , and still no sign of mc waking up .
everyone is desperate for them to wake up but nothing works . none of the potions crewel and vil worked , sam’s friends on the other side don’t have any solution , and no matter how many dark spells lilia knows it surely doesn’t help him in any ways. heck crowley even put aside his pride and asked help from rsa’s headmaster
but one day they did wake up , but something wrong . their once bright eyes were replaced by lifeless orbs , as if all the light had been sucked from them .
grim has never so guilty in his life but tried to look on the brighter side of things ! he tell them about how ace and deuce are still as stupid as ever , how riddle went off on floyd again or the way epel mocks vil behind his back when his lessons are too harsh !
but even as he looks so happy , he can’t help but feel this immense void in his heart
“hey henchmen ... when are you coming back ?”
they don’t respond when you talk to them , when you touch them , they just stare into the void .
Tumblr media
Anon..... oh, anon..... WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO MY HEART ?!?!?! 😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
I can tolerate and soak up that good angst of the boys feeling guilty for something that happened to MC......BUT GRIM?!?!?! MY HEART, DID YOU HEAR IT SHATTER?!?!?! 😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
THIS IS ANGST SO MUCH ANGST
[Anon's explanation about MC's state]
-- -- --
MC is like doll now, only breathing and staring into the void. Sometimes, they follow a request or order given by someone.
Heartslabyul's tea parties aren't as merry as they used to be. MC just sits there, staring at their cup, occasionally taking sips when Riddle suggests them to try the warm drink. Ace and Deuce can't even crack a smile in the Prefect's presence, not when they're a hollow husk of their sassy self. Cater and Trey feel uncomfortable crossing stares with MC, they rarely look up from their cup or slice of tart. Deuce, more often than not, finds himself crying at night after the parties
Riddle is trying his best every night, searching through his mother's old books back home for a possible remedy... The pages are wrinkled from the many tears he's shed while reading, heart aching for their friend.
--
Ruggie feels his chores heavier than ever. It's because MC is no longer coming to lend a hand as they used to. The bags under his eyes became more prominent with how late he stays up, looking up at the ceiling as he keeps mourning for MC's lost soul.
Jack is seen more often in his wolf form, howling at the moon... Anything to shed his tears and scream his sorrow out in a less noticeable way. He often struts over to MC while they're sitting outside Ramshackle, and pushes his furry head into their lap and hands, wishing HOPING to one day feel their delicate hands pet him again.
Everyone can see how Leona secludes himself to his room, people have begun comparing him to Idia.... But, unlike what they think, he's not sleeping. On the contrary, he's staying awake, tearing through many books from his homeland about occult magic and resurrection. After all, only someone with enough money would be able to buy such forbidden knowledge.
He won't let his herbivore live on like this, not if his country knows a way to bring them back.
--
Azul could feel himself thread the edge of insanity. Would it kill him to go through a second overblot? ....would that be better than living on without MC's company?
He will search far and wide through all of Wonderland's oceans and lakes, lagoons and swamps, for a Unique Magic holder than can revert back the blot... or time.... He will give his everything away in a contract to have such magic as his
Jade and Floyd can see the deep cracks in Azul, he's turning into an unfit leader.... It would be best for them to take his role
But they don't want to, for their hearts are cracked like his
Floyd is easier to go on rampages, and Jade is so indifferent to the word outside of his hobbies. If it weren't for their collective love for MC, Floyd would have tried hurting them to see if that wakes MC up.
They never felt so empty and unamused
--
Kalim's heart physical aches whenever he sees Grim and MC. He's tried, tried all he could
Singing, dancing, playing music, throwing million parties, hugging them, whispering how much he loves them right on their ear... but nothing
He may not be the smartest, but the white haired boy is perseverant and eager to learn: he spends his days in the alchemy room along with Vil and Crewel, researching the poison that is a magician's blot
Jamil never felt so useless, mind clouded with many "if only" scenarios that make him blame himself for MC's situation
If only he hadn't overblotted, if only he hadn't sent them flying off to the ends of the earth, if only he had noticed the poison clinging to their soul sooner.... If only....
Why didn't he realize the blot developing in their body? It was only natural, after spending so much time in Twisted Wonderland without any buffer for the magical energy on this place
If only he could take their place...
--
Vil never left the alchemy room or Pomefiore's underground laboratory. He spent every day researching how to revert MC's ailments
He only ever left the labs to go into Ramshackle and help the Prefect prepare for the day. Whenever he got to putting on their makeup, Vil can't help but cry at how hollow and dull they look, when they used to be such a warm and radiant soul
Rook was on the same boat, taking his science club duties more serious than ever. He would search in every single ecosystem for any plant, mushroom, hunt down any animal, organ that was needed for even the slightest help for MC
And Epel.... All he could do was scream and punch his pillow, cursing fate and how sick the world is. What did an innocent, magicless person from another world do to deserve this?!
He will often go sit besides MC and carve apples for them, of their favorite flower, their zodiac sign, their favorite animal, and those carvings they loved most of his
...but the fruits will always rot, just like their once beautiful soul
--
Idia, who was already barely seen outside, hides deeper in his room
The internet is a place full of information, knowledge... Forbidden knowledge
The shut-in and his little brother are always monitoring EVERY SINGLE portal on the internet, be it on the surface or deep DEEP down in the depths
But what tortures him the most.... Is his very own room This is the place he mad many memories with MC in, every corner of his room echoes with their laughter and gentle voice Like a ghost haunting him from now until forever
Ortho is left to wonder how fickle a human's soul is, their body so fragile But was this really in their fate? Or was it an unexpected outcome not even destiny could foretell?
"I miss you... I want to play more. Wake up soon, [Name][Surname]-san" A strange wavering in his voice was heard, followed by a knot in his throat.
--
Diasomia dorm is always under a storm cloud, green lightning striking the ground surrounding it
Fae have magic beyond a simple human's comprehension, even more so dark fae There MUST be someone in Valley of Thorns that will heed the Prince's call for aid
"The story of old..." Malleus muttered one night, snapping even the sleep-prone knight into attention. "Calls... for True Love's kiss, after the princess was cursed."
Lilia can feel his heart ache for the young dragon. "These are very different situations, Malleus." Yet the bat utters no words
Sebek understands what his precious Lord is getting to. "I shall ask Grim to leave the door open tomorrow night."
Silver nodded along his fellow guard, "If there is anything we can procure, do not hesitate on asking for it, Malleus-sama"
Vanrouge sighed, "It doesn't hurt to try." "Steady heart, goal clear in mind. Do not waver in your actions, my Prince, hesitation never helps when working with curses."
The disheveled royal finally straightened up, eyes red and puffy from how long he's cried and how little he sleeps. "Sebek, go to Ramshackle. We must try it out... now"
--
Grim dealt with the worst blow
It unsettled him to live with such a different MC. Even the Ghosts were unsettled and hurting from what happened to their friend.
"But I will keep sleeping on your chest, ye hear?! As long as I keep hearing your heartbeat, I will guide you back with my warmth and my blue flames! Just.... just make sure to follow my path, yes?"
"[Name]... we miss you so much... don't leave yet, not yet, not like this..."
"Follow my flames, like I always followed your light... Please?"
-- -- --
My heart was shattered right as I was all happy and giggly about Disney savvy MC stuff.... B O Y, WAS I NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT
SO NOW YOU COME SUFFER WITH ME

Album of the month / 2021 / 08 August
I love listening to music - gladly, all the time, everywhere. That's why I would like to share which music (or which album, after all I'm still from the vinyl generation ;-) I enjoy, accompanies me, slides up my playlists again and again...
The Beatles & George Martin
LOVE
Rock-Remix / 2006 / Parlophone, Apple, EMI (Universal Music Group)
When you hear the term "remix," it's usually a DJ putting a danceable techno beat under a pop or rock song. And often enough, this leaves the original performer or composer turning in his grave to the same frantic beat. But there are also exceptions. And one of them this time is my album of the month.
34 years ago in Québec I visited a kind of circus performance that was new to me. There were no animals, but excellent artistry. The whole thing was embedded in an almost psychedelic production of sounds and music and light effects and projections. Although individual acts, the whole was dramaturgically staged like an opera or a musical in one piece. The name of the circus was "Cirque du Soleil". A concept that in the following years and decades went from French Canada around the world and celebrated legendary successes everywhere - including artists in residence in Las Vegas. The visionary founder Guy Laliberté also became known worldwide as an impresario and, incidentally, a billionaire.
There are bands I really regret never having seen live. For example, The Queen with Freddie Mercury, although at least I met the latter once in a club in Munich - well, we were in the same room for a few hours. But there is also the opposite, for example The Beatles. As much as I appreciate these musical titans, a concert seems rather witless to me: film footage shows four musicians on stage, initially even dressed alike, operating their instruments without notable movements or show effects and trying to permanently drown out screaming young ladies. But maybe I only comfort myself with this assessment, because I was and am simply too young to be able to experience John, Paul, George and Ringo in their active time on stage. Anyway.
Guy Laliberté and George Harrison were friends. And at some point - I imagine the two of them over a cup of yogi tea after meditative yoga, one handing the other the joint "You, I have an idea..." - the idea was born to bring together the two cultural phenomena Cirque du Soleil and The Beatles. As a composition for all senses, new and timeless, ecstatic and colorful. After all, it was Harrison who was always eager to experiment. He converted to Hinduism in the 60s, gained experience with psychedelics and transcendental meditation and introduced oriental instruments, first and foremost the sitar, into Western music and is thus considered one of the most important pioneers of world music. A development that goes hand in hand with my personal taste: the longer their hair got, the more I liked their music.
It was only after Harrison's death that Laliberté was able to close the deal with the rights holders of the music (Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison), which can thus probably be considered a kind of Harrison's legacy. For the show was not to simply put together a soundtrack of the old familiar hits, nor were the compositions to be reinterpreted by other musicians. No, the original multi-track recordings were to be used to create new adaptations of the original songs. And who would be better qualified for this than George Martin, who had already produced groundbreaking albums with the Beatles themselves. In the process, he advanced from mere producer to arranger and idea generator, who also revolutionized recording technology by using overdubbing, for example. It's hardly surprising that he is often referred to as the "fifth Beatle".
In general, Sir George Henry Martin, Commander of the Order of the British Empire, is a man of musical superlatives. He is recorded as the producer of 4,836 titles, but one assumes considerably more. And that includes not only The Beatles, but also a wide variety of works for Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Manfred Mann, Little River Band, Ultravox and many more. His 30th number one hit was "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John. Martin founded the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts with McCartney, was one of a handful of producers inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and received the BRIT Award for "Best British Producer of the Past 25 Years" in 1977, among countless other honors.
So George Martin went into the studio with his son Giles Martin, who had produced INXS and Kate Bush, among others, following in his father's footsteps. And not just any studio - of course it had to be Abbey Road Studios (again). With the original recordings, the team not only created new variations of the original pieces, as they could have been created alternatively with the Beatles themselves. For example, they enriched the acoustic version of "While my Guitar gently weeps" with an orchestral accompaniment and combined the rhythm of "Tomorrow never knows" with the vocals of "Within You without You". Thus, a soundtrack project for a circus stage show ultimately became a new album by the Beatles. No wonder that Sir Paul himself described "Love" like this: "This album puts The Beatles back together again. It's kind of magical." And Ringo added "George and Giles did such a great job combining these tracks. It's really powerful for me and I even heard things I'd forgotten we'd recorded."
The documentary "All together now - A Documentary Film" by Adrian Wills (director) and Heidi Haines (screenplay), which won a Grammy in the category "Best long form Music Video", also fits the project's ambition. It tells the entire story of LOVE's creation, from the first meetings of the creative team around Martin and Laliberté to interviews with, among others, McCartney, Starr, Yoko Ono, John Lennon's widow, and Neil Aspinall, the Beatles' longtime road manager and event technician, to the first rehearsals of the stage show in Montréal.
LOVE is more than a medley of hits by the mushroom heads, but rather a kind of rock opera that is a first-class listening experience even without the accompanying show. Says George Martin: "The Beatles always looked for other ways of expressing themselves and this is another step forward for them." And father and son succeeded with remarkable creativity. The new version of "Because" is still directly harmless, since it uses the birdsong of "Across the Universe" as well as the final chord of "A Day in the Life" played backwards. "Glass Onion," on the other hand, became a grandiose collage with elements of the songs "Things We Said Today," "Hello, Goodbye" (background vocals), "I Am the Walrus" (background vocals), "Penny Lane" (flute), "A Day in the Life" (orchestra), "Magical Mystery Tour" (effects) and "Only a Northern Song" (effects). State-of-the-art technology in digitization, mixing and mastering also ensure the finest sound quality.
Speaking of sound quality: a show that relies so heavily on music must of course also rely on a perfect acoustic performance. Created by French designer Jean Rabasse, the LOVE theater at The Mirage / Las Vegas houses 2,013 seats set around a central stage. Each seat is fitted with three speakers, which sums up to a spectacular sound system with 6,351 speakers designed by Jonathan Deans. The stage includes 11 lifts, 4 traps, and 13 automated tracks and trolleys. The theater features 32 digital projectors creating very large high definition digital 100' wide panoramic images, even on four translucent screens that can be unfurled to divide the auditorium. That's what I call "being in the middle of the action".
Reportedly, the theater cost more than $100 million - which doesn't even include the development of the show. And unfortunately, it also means LOVE can never go on tour. So I won't be able to avoid traveling to Las Vegas one day for that reason alone. Which I trust will be on the event calendar for a few more years to recoup its costs. And so the circle closes: Decades later, I would once again enjoy Cirque du Soleil in North America - and thus also experience The Beatles live in a somewhat different way.
Here's a trailer for the Las Vegas Show LOVE from the Cirque du Soleil:

I continue my message. I love Swans and fairy tales about swans. So I love tales as Six Swans, Seven Ravens, Wild Swans? do you love them? I know Czech movie Seven Ravens from Raza, it's very good. You know it? I think it's a popular tale so probably there are also others adaptation. Do you know more? I know all days I ask you something and I hope I don't bother you. I really appreciate too much this website and your knowledge about old stories and European cinema and it's good to discuss with u
Oh, anon, I LOVE the Wild Swans/Six Swans/Seven Ravens type of tale! It has a strong, active heroine, positive relationship between siblings and an engaging romantic subplot (when done right)! (btw: if you enjoy reading fairytale retellings, you might want to check out Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier; it's not an easy read /tw: sexual violence/, but overall very emotionally satisfying)
As for the film adaptations!
THE WILD SWANS (H. Ch. Andersen)/THE SIX SWANS (Brothers Grimm)
To start with H. Ch. Andersen's Wild Swans: there is a made-for-TV Czech adaptation of the same name – The Wild Swans ("Divoké labutě", Czechoslovakia, 1988). It's a part of Fairytale Tree ("Strom pohádek") series, so parts of it are retold by a narrator and parts are acted out. You can watch it on YouTube here. But honestly: it's not very good, you can safely skip this adaptation altogether. And it's so low budget that they never even show the princes as swans, LOL.
Not-Czech alternatives: Märchenperlen series has a pretty great adaptation of Brothers Grimm's Six Swans from 2012 that is very much worth watching if you haven’t already! It's available for streaming on ZDF website and you can watch it with ENG subtitles, I described how to do so here. Although, the automatic subtitles might be a little funny sometimes :).
Tumblr media
(I also still remember the Russian animated adaptation from the 60's based on Andersen’s version, I've seen it as a kid on TV and it left a deep impression in me, but I guess you know it already :)).
THE SEVEN RAVENS (Božena Němcová)
Note: Brothers Grimm have a fairytale of the same name but it’s very different from the Czech version collected by Němcová.
There are 3 Czech live-action adaptations of The Seven Ravens:
1) The Seven Ravens (”Sedmero krkavců”, 1967)
You can watch it on YouTube here.
Directed by Ludvík Ráža, this is a made-for-TV film from 60′s, when Czech fairytale TV films were just starting and directors were trying out different ways to make the TV fairytales engaging and atmospheric even with a limited budget. This adaptation definitely does not lack dire atmosphere, but it’s also extremely theatrical/over dramatic, it looks more like a filmed stage play than a fairytale for children. It’s interesting for archival reasons and for its stellar cast, but probably not attractive for foreign fans.
2) The Seven Ravens (”Sedmero krkavců”, 1993)
You can watch it on YouTube here. (The YouTube upload is very low quality, if anyone really wants to watch this movie – without subtitles! – I can send you a download link via private message)
Directed again by Ludvík Ráža, who probably wanted to make a larger budget version of his take from 1967, The Seven Ravens from 1993 is legendary for its dramatic script and creepy villains – seriously, the heroine Bohdanka and her Prince play a second fiddle to the villainous duo of the Prince’s evil sister and her henchman called Hound. Btw - the evil sister is played by Ivana Chýlková who later starred as a titular evil character in The Queen of the Lake I talked about in the previous ask. This film version of the Seven Ravens is not my cup of tea, but it definitely scores points for creepiness!
3) The Seven Ravens (”Sedmero krkavců”, 2015)
Available on Magdalena’s google drive with ENG subtitles here. (please support this amazing blogger, she makes many Czech and Slovak films and fairytales available for foreign fans!)
I still remember that when this film was announced and even when the shooting was taking place, the Czech public in general was rather sceptical about it. After all, director Alice Nellis has never made a fairytale film before. Also, the casting was kind of controversial: Martha Issová, who was 33 yrs old at that time, was considered too old and too “plain” to play a fairytale heroine. Lukáš Příkazký as the Prince was also a surprising choice, as he was also deemed too old and not “manly” enough to star in a fairytale. And while the cast consisted of established actors, there were no big names, no huge stars that would draw the crowds into movie theaters. Many people also expressed the sentiment that it’s “unnecessary” to shoot The Seven Ravens again, when the 1993 version aged so well....
I am saying this to give you some idea how the film was initially not in a favorable position to become a hit and then...it was released to generally positive reviews and became one the best rated Czech fairytale films of the past 20 years. (it has 75% on Czech movie database - that’s a big success for a fairytale film)
Personally, I consider it one of the best Czech fairytale movies of all time and very much worth the watch. Also, I am a fan of Martha Issová and I think she did AMAZING in the main role (she expresses herself non-verbally for like 90% of the film and it’s such a joy to watch)

I saw that you like CATS the musical. What are your thoughts on the movie?
AAAAH AHHAHA oh man oh boy y'all should BUCKLE IN cuz it's a ride
my simple thoughts? it's entertaining if only because it butchered the stage show so badly in an attempt to idk modernize it? Well, modernization is one part of it I think. The other part I'll go into below lol. I don't necessarily hate some of the more modern renditions of the songs (mostly the ensemble sets like Jellicle Song for Jellicle Cats) but then others are just... so poorly done it's insulting.
I've said this at the end of this whole rant too but I'm gonna put it up here in case people don't (justifiably) wanna see me go on and on about it:
The movie wasn't made for fans of the musical. It was made to make money and I believe they choose, at least partially, to do that through making it the weirdest and worst possible adaptation they could so that people would want to go see the train wreck. Which, really, worked! It was all people could talk about for a good while so like... Goal achieved, I guess.
A MUCH MORE COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT cuz i don't wanna. flood your dash with... this
ALRIGHT SO. Most of my friends know I'm actually a huge fan of new adaptations of things. I love remakes (provided the people making it are coming at it with some form of heart and not just... cash grabbing which is more often the case) I love seeing other peoples interpretations of characters, or changing settings. It's one of the reasons I like American comics so much, getting to see different writers takes is fascinating.
I think musical movies can be wonderful ways to introduce people to a stage show that might have been unavailable to them otherwise! Chicago, for example, is one of the BEST musical to movie adaptations in my opinion. It kept the heart of the show, it's funny and the song numbers are done really well.
There are of course other famous examples, such as Grease or Bye Bye Birdie. Hairspray was also a wonderful take. These are simply off the top of my head, there are of course more.
CATS in particular has a history. If you go through my CATS tag you may see a few posts from @catsnonreplica which posts photos from non broadway productions of CATS! It's a fascinating read and I love, love, love looking at the other interpretations of the characters! CATS is a musical full of fun and wonderful characters if you take the time to see past the ridiculousness haha and the Korean and Japanese runs of CATS especially have some of my favourites.
How does this relate to the movie, I hear you say well. As you might has noticed the movie's interpretations of the characters is........ lackluster at best and downright uncanny valley at best.
CATS is, at its core, a ridiculous thing. I will fully admit that! But it's fun, it's entertaining and if you pay a little attention you can actually get the plot. (Honestly I don't understand when people complain it has no plot but that's a whole other rant for another day)
The movie was... obsessed with this idea of like... semi realism? Like obviously, as a fan, I think they should have leaned into the over the top character designs but instead we got...w ell:
Bombalurina:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Demeter left and Bomba right. Demeter was actually cut! From the movie which is. upsetting lmao.
Macavity is one of the worst offenders for me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Macavity was... I wish I could know what the hell they were thinking there cuz it's even in his song? Ginger cat??? THAT IS NOT... A GINGER CAT...... but I digress. I would show more examples but I think you get the point.
So. We've butchered the characters appearances. Okay that's fine but what about their personalities?
ALSO BUTCHERED.
There's... there's a lot to unpack here. Just for context: the Jellicle Ball happens once a year and the Jellicle leader chooses a single cat to be reborn into a new life. In the stage play all the cats who are nominated for this honour are on the older side (Jenny-Any-Dots, Bustopher Jones, Skimbleshanks, Gus The Theatre Cat, and eventually Grizzabella) AND are always nominated by another cat. Not themself, unlike the movie where they all seem to nominate themselves.
Jenny-Any-Dots went from a doting grandmother figure who's celebrated for her selfless volunteering and tireless work into a conceited, vain younger cat who is obsessed with fame.
It's an incredibly strange dichotomy. I don't doubt some of it isn't the result of the uh people playing the characters honestly. I do think some of them did the best they could! I don't really blame Jason Derulo, for example, for Tugger. And honestly, Tugger was probably closest to his stage version (while being a trouble maker, he's shown to show Deuteronomy an immense amount of respect)
Speaking of Tugger! This will bring us to one of the biggest grievances with the movie and that is how they handled Mr Mistoffelees.
So... Ugh. So. We have Victoria as the pov character, which imo is like whatever in the grand scheme of things, and then we have Misto who they have decided will be get live interest cuz... Of course. Misto is shown throughout the musical to be awkward, unsure of himself and well. Really, kinda incompetent. Which is Wild cuz in the stage show he might be aloof but he's fairly confident in his powers.
So, Old Deuts gets kidnapped. In the stage show Tugger is the one to bring Misto forward! It's really quite sweet, imo, and I'm showing myself as a Tuggoffelees shipper here, but again Tugger is previously shown to be pretty conceited but then here he is boosting and hyping up Misto to bring Deuteronomy back. My friends and I have lovingly dubbed this the boyfriend hype song.
SOMEHOW. The movie manages to make this, easily, the MOST BORING number in the whole thing. Which, again, WILD. Misto awkwardly stumbles through his whole song, which again is... Boasting of his supreme magical powers which movie Misto clearly. Does not have or believe to have. The song, to me, feels super awkward and unnecessarily drawn out in the movie which sucks cuz it's one of my favourites in the show.
The declawing (heh) of Mr Mistoffelees actually reminds me strongly of how they changed Gaston in the live action Beauty and the Beast movie. He's gone from a beloved figure in the animated movie to someone so disliked in the town that Le Fou has to pay people off to say nice things about him. It's just. Wild character choices were made!!
Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat is probably my favourite in movie non ensemble number. It feels the most... Genuine? Compared to the other nomination songs.
Other problems include but are not limited to:
The inconsistent size scale of the CATS which throws me off constantly.
The weirdly overt sexual overtones added to MANY of the songs (Jenny and Bustopher being the worst)
This is just a personal gripe and opinion but I don't like that they used the UK version of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. The American version is both better known and tbh way more fun. Teazer's giggle? Adds ten years to my life every time.
Victoria's added solo song, Beautiful Ghosts, while I like the song as a song it doesn't fit the style of message of the musical. In the movie she's singing directly to Grizzabella who's being an outcast for years that she should be grateful she even has memories of being part of the tribe?? What?? But I know they had to add an original song to be able to be nominated for awards in like the Grammys n shit (which is why all musical movies will have an original song, fun fact!!) kinda funny they went to the effort though considering........... I don't think anyone could have genuinely believed CATS 2019 was gonna win anything but golden rhaspberries.
Movie Mr Mistoffelees has made repeated appearances as my sleep paralysis demon
The various cut characters, shout outs to Jemima, Demeter and Jellylorum especially
Bombalurina being a henchman to Macavity rubs me the wrong way
God I've written... So much. You probably get it by now haha. Like I said at the beginning, I try to go into any adaptation with an open mind but... Let's be honest, this movie wasn't marketed to people who are fans of the musical.
It was marketed, and made, to make money. And they choose to do that through, I think, intentionally making the worst possible version ever. Bad press is still press and the more outrageous people said the movie was the more people wanted to go see exactly what kind of train wreck it was.
Which is a disservice to the stage show, honestly, and all the people who've worked on it over the years.
But what can we do, right?
And besides all that, I do... Still own the movie version and I do still rewatch it on occasion. It is entertaining even if it's in a train wreck kind of way. I usually end up watching the 1998 version, then 2019 and then various tour runs that are on YouTube. (I highly recommend the 2016 tour, it's very good)
So in conclusion. It's fun (?) to watch. I enjoy picking things apart and doing analysis (if you couldn't tell!) so like... I don't hate it?
It did what it set out to do, I guess, and I can't fault it for that but. It's not a fair metre with which to judge the stage show imo. But I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, haha.
Jazz hands. I'm more than happy to elaborate or just chat about CATS if anyone wants! I grew up listening to the Broadway CD since I was a toddler so it's been! A very long standing obsession haha. Probably the only other thing on par with CATS is my obsession with Jurassic Park which I've also been a fan of since I was 3 (but that's a whole story in and of itself)

In Defense Of Fate: The Winx Saga
I’ve had the opportunity to finally watch Fate: The Winx Club Saga, and I’ve got to say, for starters, that I am delighted to have had a series I’ve watched since I was young grow up with me into this new age.
I’ll try to keep things spoiler free, maybe? But I’d like to take a stand for the new series as I’ve noticed it’s been getting a lot of hate from what is an already very delicate fandom. I think the majority of the fandom has been having a hard time adjusting, or accepting this new take on the series, due to how many English dubs there’s been on the matter: Rai, 4kids, Nick, etc. to start off and perhaps even from what we’ve seen in general throughout all these years of Winx Club, thus each of us have different thoughts and expectations from what we’ve seen and come to know, admittedly it had some influence on me itself.
But, while watching the new live action adaptation I chose to hold back my worries and approach this new chapter with an openmind, reminding myself that it was an adaptation based on the Winx Club series, therefore I couldn’t expect that it would be a play by play of the original animated counterpart. Admittedly, at first, it took some getting used to as for the most part those who grew up watching the animated series are used to a very PG setting in its language and presentation. The live action series took a very different approach when it came to something we love very much, but I don’t personally think it was for the worse, for me.
It’s an adjustment, yes, but I think the beauty of this live action series offers its more mature audience a bit more of that... well... maturity we’ve all been asking for. Yes, it takes some elements from other shows (like Riverdale I believe), but I also think it stands out on its own by bringing its unique lore that the writers worked hard to incorporate while simultaneously reminding us of the show’s origins through little references and familiarity of what we’ve come to know, such as the incorporation of Stella’s family heirloom, the Ring of Solaria, which hasn’t been seen in the series since Season 3. (though it did make a brief appearance in Season 7)
Another thing that might throw people off, that I’ve seen, has been the cast itself. Flora being replaced by Terra, Tecna not being cast on the live action series, and all around not having cultural representation among them itself; that’s something I can understand, yet while that may be a cause for some concern I think the actors portrayed their roles rather nicely and worked hard to give a good portrayal of this new series. A lot of things were changed, and that’s hard for some of us to accept or even get used to, but I find it a little unfair that there are those willing to call it quits solely because the series does not meet their personal expectations, which is probably a factor in all of this.
Personally, I think it was beautifully portrayed, even with the little flaws here and there. Incorporating the lore about the Changelings was a unique way to tell a bit about Bloom’s story this time around, it gave Bloom and the audience a chance to feel the emotion behind the truth during the episode (for those of you who watched it, ya’ll know what I’m talking about) when she spoke with her parents, seeing how Stella is put under constant pressure as a Princess of Solaria by her mother was... a bit out of left field admittedly, but it gave Stella a whole new dynamic that I’d like to continue to see evolving into Season 2, and even the incorporation and fate (haha, see what I did there? :D) of new and ‘old’ characters alike was surprising to see up to the very end of the first Season.
The live action series chose to focus on a very in-depth story to keep us, the audience, engaged with it and it’s characters rather than spoil us simply with fairy forms like we’re often used to every episode as of late, and it was a great move for a large portion of us who wanted to see the story evolve into something more dynamic.
Now, I understand that even after watching the series it may still not be your cup of tea, we all have different tastes and that’s okay! But it’s not entirely fair for people to bash it and try to discourage others from enjoying it solely because it doesn’t meet individual expectations/hopes. We should embrace this change and walk into it as a community. Iginio’s work with Netflix was well worth the wait for many of us and we should be allowed to enjoy it. 🙂
Whether you found something to enjoy about the series or perhaps you still feel strongly about your position let’s try to communicate our thoughts, share your voice, but just respect each other. Let’s try to stand united as a community rather than at odds with one another. 😁

I'm several years late but after finally watching Aku no Hana (anime) I was really impressed with the director. I've been watching some candy colored fantasy anime on the recommendation of friends (a different conversation entirely) and this very bitter realism was a refreshing palette cleanser, even if it was honestly hard to get into and stick with to start. Despite the interesting execution, a purposefully feel bad plot with unlikable protagonists can be hard to want to watch. The first six episodes were a challenge to push through, but once the momentum and tension had built and snapped, instead of dreading what would happen next I was sucked in.
I think this show would have been well suited to a movie format instead of television, as it felt sometimes like episode recap, preview, and opening/ending credits interrupted the narrative flow enough to feel like filler at times. The choice to see character's actions and situations unfold without much, if any, time skipping also contributed effectively to the feeling of realism, so it was jarring to have the "real time" pace interrupted in the final episode with a rush of things to come. I accepted the chaotic jumble of future sight as a kind of surreal prophecy, but later read it was a preview of a second season which sadly never came out. I am left wishing instead for a complete film made by this team.
Seeing the look of the manga and live action adaptation, I dont think I'll read or watch them. Feel bad stories arent my cup of tea in general and what I really appreciated about this anime was the pain taken to capture realism; not only in the writing, but also in the look and movement of each person and the composition of each frame.
When asked at a Q&A panel at Animazement 2013 why he didn't make the adaptation a traditional live-action series, he responded that in live-action, the focus is on the actors and not the characters.
By rotoscoping, both the reality of the human bodies and faces moving in space, and the sublimation of the actors into a hand drawn world, succeeded in sharing so much more information than just video or imagined drawings. The rare surreal special effects also feel naturally integrated thanks to everything already being animation. When I was younger I think I would have hated rotoscoping for being "lazy" or requiring less draftsmanship from the artists, so I can understand why this choice netted backlash. Where I'm at as an artist right now, however, the level of real detail this process retained seems well worth the effort of essentially making the show twice.
I appreciated aku no hana's honesty. Despite its purposeful unpleasantness, it did remind me in some ways of being that age. Teens are almost like adults, and yet so different inside and out, and I think a lot of media fails to depict that as clearly as this show did. I'm grateful for the reminder.

Hi! Since you seem to be into a lot of different stuff can you share anime recommendations? If you have any. Have a lovely day!! You seem like such a sweet person
What 🥺🥺🥺 a-awww, thank you so much anon!! That’s so kind of you to say... I’m just a nut crying feels into the void over my obscure faves over here, without a consistent one fandom anymore a;lksfklkfg though I guess now it’s just egg, but thank you! ❤️ I have a lot of anime recommendations I can give, but I don’t know what exactly you’re into, or if you’re looking for anything in particular...? But I can definitely list some!
The big popular ones you probably already know about are My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan, I’ll get those out of the way first. I have my gripes with MHA and it has a lot of flaws that can’t be ignored, but overall it’s a really fun and high-energy and uplifting shounen series that has some really beautiful messages and moments, with a wonderful and touching main duo of main characters, and amazing animation and music; it’s as popular as it is for a reason, it’s just such a feel-good show and I’d always recommend it, even if I do complain about it sometimes haha. Attack on Titan on the other hand, I know hyperbole like this is like ugh really, but I really do mean it when I say it is an absolute masterpiece in the making; the first season feels very run-of-the-mill, typical shounen, which I wasn’t a big fan of like everyone else was at the peak of its initial hype years ago, but the show changes and evolves so much, beyond what you could ever imagine, honestly, and now by this point, when it’s almost at its end (the manga is literally ending a week from today), I can almost definitively say it’s one of the best anime out there. Everything in it is foreshadowed from the very first episode, the puzzle and mysteries unfold so masterfully and it all ties together so well, the story’s themes and the characters are all amazing, the music is GODLY and so is the animation, it’s just perfect, please please everyone watch AoT.
Bungou Stray Dogs is also pretty popular, and is one of my personal favorite animanga of all time; it’s a mystery/supernatural action semi-steampunk series with a huge focus on the characters and some AMAZING found family dynamics, seriously if you want found family for the love of god watch BSD, I love all these characters and their relationships so so much. Season 3 isn’t as good an adaptation of the manga, sadly, but the first two seasons and especially season 2 are absolutely amazing, and I would recommend the manga in a heartbeat as well. Noragami I adore for much of the same reasons, with the besttt found family dynamics and a really great balance between comedy and drama, though with Noragami in particular I would for sure stress to read the manga afterward, because the anime falls short near the end of season 2 and leaves so much unfinished, and the manga is absolutely phenomenal, one that like the rest of these will probably always remain in my top ten manga.
If you like shoujo, Akatsuki no Yona is my favorite shoujo of all time, with - once - again, wonderful found familyyy in a historical setting, really lovely slow progression of character development, and some fantastic action and music. The anime leaves so much unanswered and unfinished so the manga is an absolute must here, but I still just have to mention it because the anime is just so damn good in adapting what it covers, especially combined with the OVAs still waiting for that season 2 *cries*.
Assassination Classroom is a comedy/drama(??) shounen that ended a few years ago; it’s VERY funny and entertaining to watch, with an almost seamless transition into high emotional beats that left me speechless at how invested in and attached I suddenly was, and the ending, I’m not exaggerating, made me cry harder than literally anything else I have ever watched in my life, it is that devastating. Highly highly recommend AssClass yes that’s the nickname, I love it so so much, but be prepared to have your feels hit by a truck.
Free! is a really good sports anime with really great characters, and yes I am saying this completely unironically, I highly recommend Free’s first two seasons; just please for the love of god pretend season 3 does not exist. Run With the Wind is my other favorite sports anime that is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED, it’s so motivational and uplifting and all the characters are so damn nice and endearing, and it has a fantastic score by the same composer as MHA and Haikyuu’s osts; EVERYONE WATCH RWTW IT IS SO SO GOOD.
Made in Abyss is another anime that is likely to never fully conclude the manga’s story, but the one season and movie that we do have is an absolute animated masterpiece in every imaginable way, so I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend it; it’s haunting and beautiful and very hard to watch at times, but so so worth it. Princess Tutu is, to me, the best magical girl anime of all time, dark beautiful fantasy with a wonderful four main characters and one of my favorite “villain” redemption arcs ever, not to mention one of the best enemies-to-lovers story arc I’ve ever seen. Of course my other favorite magical girl anime is the much-loved Puella Magi Madoka Magica, that is also dark but not without a purpose, twelve tightly-written episodes that wrap up perfectly by the end, with not a single minute wasted.
Poco’s Udon World is my favorite fluffy slice of life show; it’s also criminally underrated and SO sweet, it makes me cry every time I watch it with how goddamn precious it is, and I so wish more people knew about it. No.6 is a great short bl romance/sci-fi anime, and Romeo x Juliet is one of my favorite older romance anime, based on... well, the title is self-explanatory.
Mystery is my favorite genre in any media, so I have a lot of these haha. Gankutsuou is a supernatural mystery/drama/suspense/thriller based off the famous novel The Count of Monte Cristo, and it still remains one of my favorite anime of all time; the tension builds so WELL with each and every episode, the story is so gripping and so so tragic, and it always makes me cry by the last few episodes; a very underrated gem (also it has one of the most unique animation styles I’ve ever seen). Gosick is another mystery anime I adore, though it’s more of a slow-burn romance with some episodic mysteries before diving into an overarching plot; it’s actually what I tell people is my #1 favorite anime, just because the Victorian aesthetic is so me, but it’s so unknown that I never really get a chance to talk about it, haha. Mawaru Penguindrum is a mystery/drama/comedy anime that is extremely bizarre and philosophical, it’s honestly impossible to explain without just seeing it yourself alkfglalksdk, but it has a lot of family feels and is extremely touching and satisfying by the end despite all the weirdness, at least to me, so I always try to recommend it, though it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Erased is another fantastic short mystery/drama/suspense thriller, with some really moving moments and wonderful atmosphere and tension; the ending falls a little flat, but that doesn’t ruin how amazing the rest of it is (and I’d also recommend the live-action Netflix version, which has the proper ending from the manga). And I guess I’ll throw in Moriarty the Patriot too when it comes to mystery/crime thriller anime, which I’m still currently watching and is still ongoing, but I absolutely LOVE it so far, more people should be watching and reading it.
I have a lot more I could list too, to be honest 😅 I just pulled some of my favorites from the list on my About page ahaha, and a range of popular known ones to more obscure underrated ones. But I hope some of these suit your fancy, anon, sorry I tend to ramble ALKSDFKLFLSKDF I just wanted to be thorough since I didn’t know if you were after a particular genre or not! I hope you have a lovely day too! ❤️

Anime of the Decade - 2015
So, I’ve taken a glance through the shows that came out this year... and I’m a little scared. This is the beginning of my seasonal watching and the number of shows really ramps up. So to keep the work down and stand any chance of finishing this decade off by tomorrow I’ll only be highlighting a handful of shows per season. Additionally since there are really a lot of great shows, I’ll be awarding my Anime of the Season in addition to the AOTY. Lets get started.
Winter:
Tokyo Ghoul Root A - Despite people’s general dislike of this anime adaptation, I quite liked it. This second season was quite interesting to me.
Tumblr media
Assassination Classroom - Damn, this show really grabs you. It has so much heart that you can really build an emotional connection with these characters. And there are a lot of characters, and somehow they all have good development (at least to some degree). A strong plot and a complete story make this a must watch.
Tumblr media
Death Parade - This show is absolutely perfect and is my AOTS for this winter season. Please go watch it. Just go.
Tumblr media
Absolute Duo - Cute ecchi show. Fun power system
Tumblr media
How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend - This show has a pretty unique story and ALL the girls are super cute. This show also created my leggings/thigh highs/pantyhose and legs fetish, cause hot damn Utaha-senpai is sexy.
Tumblr media
Spring:
DanMachi - I absolutely adore this show. I’m so glad it finally got a second season. AND it’s getting a season 3 + a movie. Such a fun fantasy show with a lot of characters and heart.
Tumblr media
Shokugeki no Souma - This is my AOTS and very well might be my anime of the year. It’s in my All Time top 10 and I don’t think I could say enough about how much I love this show. It takes everything I love about shounen battle shows and adds in food and cooking which I love, and glorious ecchi. It’s such a beautiful blend of perfection, I absolutely love it.
Tumblr media
Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches - This was a really fun romance show. The whole body swap idea is always a fun idea to explore and this does so quite well.
Tumblr media
Oregairu S2 - More of 8-man and gang. Season 3 in 2020, quite excited.
Tumblr media
High School DxD BorN - More of Issei, Rias, and the gang. Lots more titays.
Tumblr media
Summer:
Overlord - This first season is so good. Some of the later seasons have a lot of good points, but I don’t think they quite live up to this first season. Isekai, but not. Sao-like VRMMO style, but not. It’s really good and it takes my AOTS.
Tumblr media
Charlotte - Talk about super powers, this show has so much promise and interest. I quite liked it, including the controversial ending. Definitely worth a watch.
Tumblr media
Gate - While this show doesn’t quite live up to the hype, it’s definitely a fun ride. Modern Japan meets sword and sorcery world, how do the cultures clash, what can they learn from each other, who will dominate who?
Tumblr media
Monster Musume - Sexy monster girls. I mean, come on. It’s awesome.
Tumblr media
Rokka no Yuusha - This has got to be near the top of my list of shows that I wish had another season. This is a mystery, suspense, action show that has so much premise and really leaves off on a cliffhanger. That said, what is here in season 1 is definitely worth it on it’s own.
Tumblr media
Prison School - Dear god, this show is either not your cup of tea or it will awaken things in you that you may wish had not come to light. Just go look at the art for this show and it will tell you everything you need to know about if you will like it or not. Personally, I want a season 2 lol.
Tumblr media
Shimoneta - Imagine a world where every dirty thought, phrase, printed, recorded bit of sexual content was fully banned by the government. Enter the sexual terrorists here to share what sex is and spread ALL THE INNUENDOS!
Tumblr media
Fall:
One Punch Man - What an amazing first season! It’s both an amazing sakuga-fest and a case study on a possible Hero society when popularity and money become the key allures. An absolutely fantastic show that takes AOTS.
Tumblr media
Chivalry of a Failed Knight - I love this show. I have a very very soft spot for underdog stories where they overcome and become as strong as they envision themselves to be. HeroAca, Black Clover, hell Naruto to a degree are all in this vein. This show takes that idea and mixes a very decent romance into it. Add to that a fun sword-based power system and you have a really solid show. One of my personal favorites. Hope for a season 2 some day. Gotta get to that tournament arc!
Tumblr media
Haikyuu!! (S2) - The fight to get to nationals continues. Some of the best physical movement animation that I’ve ever seen. S3 is the best season but this is just slightly behind it.
Tumblr media
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid - Yurification! Yurification! Yurification! Lesbian pairs where one is the weapon and the other the weilder. The girl turns into the weapon when she’s aroused and orgasms. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but also pretty hot. So, YMMV.
Tumblr media
So we have Death Parade from Winter, Shokugeki no Souma from Spring, Overlord from Summer, and OPM from Fall. These are all fantastic show, but I’m going to have to use my personal bias to settle this with Shokugeki no Souma taking 2015s Anime of the Year.

Calling for dedicated roleplayers with a passion for writing
Hello! My name is Aaliyah or Ally for short, and I will cut right to the chase. I am looking for a mature role-player, preferably 21+ but will also accept 18+ (just to be sure that you are of legal age, otherwise it’ll be very uncomfortable).

As I am 26 years of age with 12 years of experience, I hope to meet someone who shares my passion in creative writing, as well as formulating interesting plots and characters.

In case you are curious about me as a person, I am a full-time student and a young writer who works at the gym on the side, but also enjoys other creative outlets such as drawing. Usually my schedule is fairly full, including the attendance of friends or family. However I always have ample time for a good roleplay. :)

I am seeking a literate writer who is committed to a long-term partnership, and by that I truly mean it. Please do not respond if you are uncertain of upholding a stable roleplay. Furthermore, I’ve noticed the “ghosting after the first few messages“ trope is a fairly widespread issue in the roleplaying scene / community. I would like to implore you from refraining it. I’ve grown quite irritated by it lately and rather like to avoid it in the near future. That way we don’t waste anyone’s time. Thank you in advance. If you are hitting a hiatus, that’s completely fine! A simple message of putting things on hold is completely sufficient, but I would like to keep in touch in case the story bears great potential. Now I have a wish, or as other say it, a certain craving for something new and fresh. And that something is quite specific, as my interests are a little unorthodox. Not the typical ‘Marvel, DC, My Hero Academia, etc’ type of stick. (Not to throw shade on them! They are great! Just not my cup of tea at the moment)

I heavily enjoy video-games, tv-shows, comics, films, books, the list goes on. Hopefully I can attract some kindred spirits.
I do roleplay both Canon and Original!

So if there’s no luck in finding a fitting Canon based story, we can always switch to original world building. First, I like to list all of my heavy cravings and interests. The ones marked in bold are usually the ones I am very willing to do.

Books:
Harry Potter Next Gen (original character cast)
True Blood
Vampire Hunter D (or Manga / Anime)
Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
Game of Thrones
Videogames:
Dragon Age (from Origins to current instalment)
Castlevania
Devil May Cry
Infamous series
The Darkness
Smite
Star Wars the Old Republic

Webcomics:
Lore Olympus
Lookism
True Beauty
Comics:
Constantine
Hellboy
Witchblade
The Darkness
X-Men
Films:
Alita Battle Angel
Kingsmen
Vampire Hunter D
TV-Shows live action:
True Blood
The Boys
Vikings
Game of Thrones (Open for discussion. Still haven’t recovered from the season finale however…)
TV-Shows animated:
Hellsing
Castlevania (Netflix adaptation)
Devil May Cry (Anime adaptation)
Demon Slayer (I have only started watching this)
FMA Brotherhood
Jojo’s bizarre adventure
Black lagoon
As for original plots, I am very keen on urban and gothic fantasy, but also mythology as well as horror and crime and action. I have plenty of ideas up my sleeve, some of them quite fleshed out and some of them being concepts in the making. Either way, I would rather have these ideas introduced throughout email or whatever platform we choose to communicate on. Themes for an original story I am most inclined to do are:
Supernatural / Metaphysical (Demons, Angels, Spirits, Monsters, etc.)
Mystery
Crime
Action
Sci-Fi & fantasy (Aliens coming in contact with unsuspecting earthlings during the middle ages / ancient time-periods)
Urban fantasy mixed with high school / college themes (similar to Supernatural with local monsters, creatures, etc)
Now onto the qualities of what my roleplaying partner should have.
What it all entails: What the Partnership should be: I strongly encourage an active roleplayer who is not afraid of sharing 50% of ideas, plotting, length, detail but most important of all, passion. A bird cannot fly with only one wing. Communication: I love making new friends and brainstorming, and communication is the bedrock of it all. It strengthens our compatibility and the story. Should there be anything that might bother you, or if you think you are left out in some type of way (be it a mistake on my part or if we’re both at fault here), simply tell me. It really doesn’t bother me rewriting certain scenes to better fit the narrative. We can always exchange opinions and see what would benefit the story most. The Way of Writing: No one-liners. No text-talk. No half-assed replies. And certainly no ‘quality over quantity’ when you can have both. I don’t expect anyone to write a novel, absolutely not. I don’t either, but if I get the feeling of my partner wavering in their effort and not investing as much as I do, I have to give them the chop, unfortunately. Too often have I encountered partners who showed strong enthusiasm at first, but after a while… they slacked and eventually only put the adequate effort into their side of things whilst completely disregarding my characters. I hope to avoid this in the future. And now to myself and how I write: My writing: Third person perspective usually, although I have made some exceptions in my years of writing. My style is wide-ranging and flexible, which means that frequently, word count will go up 1000+ per reply - though it also depends on the given situation and partner. And yes, I do double, preferably even, most likely in a canon universe. However this again wholly depends on the type of story, partner and cast of characters. I am very open and willing to discuss.

Rating: So you are writing with some of mature age. I have 12 years of writing under my belt. There will be violence, there will be swearing, gore, intimacy, uncomfortable topics, drama, conflict and other dark themes included when you are writing with me. I have few limits but I will respect the boundaries of my partner. And lastly, I won’t fade to black or skip out on the nitty gritty, unless it doesn’t serve a particular purpose in forwarding the story.
Characters: I write canon as well as OC characters. Faceclaims, GIFs, drawings, mood boards or just a plain physical description is absolutely sufficient. Characters should be written as opulent, flawed, unique, talented, heroic, villainous, spiteful, angry, and everything in-between. In other words, don’t be scared of making them flawed.
Romance: Openly play and accept characters of both genders, preferable m x f pairings, but I am open to m x m and f x f relationships as well. I have more experience with m x f relationships, so I might be more adaptable with this one. If the chemistry of two characters compel me, I’m on board with it! When it comes to sexual scenarios and intimacy (intercourse, foreplay, all that funny business). I encourage eroticism, but always in a tasteful, sensual manner (that goes for romance as well), though it is never the main focus of any of my stories, rather a tool to further the plot. Erotica is welcome but never the focus of any kind of roleplay. Content: Drama, violence, sex, metamorphosis, symbolism, action, romance, pretty much everything is a-okay. I am not explicitly bothered by certain subjects that may be uncomfortable for the general public. Roleplays are fictional stories and we best keep treating them as such. If there are things you are uncomfortable with, name them and I shall respect those boundaries. But don’t be surprised when suddenly one of our characters bites the dust, or gets tortured, etc. It may be difficult to write and read, but it is all part of the story and a tool for furthering the plot. My roleplays imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical altercations among other things. But I also endorse beauty, serenity and placid moments for our characters to grow in. I love it when it comes full circle… everyone- and everything has a beautiful and hideous side. Again, this is mature and I am not here to coddle, I am here for a challenge. Should I hit a hiatus myself, I will inform you as soon as possible. :)

Platforms I usually roleplay on are email and google-docs. I also have Discord in case for plotting and chatting outside of the RP. Though Google Hangouts has proven itself as a sufficient chat-medium for such things, so I rather stay with that one.

When you message me, please use the given codenames so I know what you like to specify in.
Blue Rose: Canon

Red Feather: Original

I’d be happy to receive a small description of yourself and what your passions are! :) Message me here: EMAIL: [email protected] I am very excited to hear from you! Sincerely yours -Ally

Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy
Tumblr media
I watched an episode of this every week alongside watching ‘Mairimashita! Iruma-kun’ but I didn’t think I’d like it so much that I wasn’t able to do individual episode posts like I did the latter.
I only heard about this anime’s existence on tumblr, got intrigued and found out it was originally a Vocaloid song that got an LN and now an anime adaptation and quickly watched it cause Muse Asia also uploads it on their yt channel.
The series ended last week on it’s 11th episode (yeah, not even 12th which is sad cause I thought I still at least have a week before saying goodbye to this show) so now I thought of posting my thoughts on it. The few character screenshots I took were from the last episode as a result.
The Story:
Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy’ is about Hijiri Mizuki, a transfer student, who got recruited by the school’s Hero Club much to her dismay. She wanted to live a peaceful life but the memebers of the club she got dragged into are all chuunibyou and they’re convinced she’s one of them. Now called ‘Pink’, she goes on various little misadventures with the gang as they fulfill certain request from many different people.
The Characters:
Tumblr media
Hijiri Mizuki - Our heroine - called ‘Pink’ by the others, especially Noda. She reluctantly joins the Hero Club who would drag her along in their missions. She loves puzzles and want to live peacefully and is often exasperated with the weird antics of her clubmates. Being the only ‘sane, non-chuuni’ member of the club, she acts like the audience surrogate and is the POV character of the series. She may or may not have actual special powers.
Tumblr media
Noda Yamato - the team leader and calls himself ‘Red’. The loudest and most enthusiastic member of the group who thinks of himself as a hero. He calls everyone by their color-based codenames that he assigned himself. He is very athletic (like really athletic) and uses his skills to help people. He’s kind and friendly but has trouble accepting a ‘no’ from people he wants to recruit in their club (like Mizuki and Futaba)
Tumblr media
Takashima Tomoki - takes up the codename ‘Yellow’ and is a pretty boy who could’ve been popular with girls except even though he does have a bit of narcissistic streak, he doesn’t do well talking to real girls and has already devoted his heart, soul, and entire wallet to his waifu ‘Sora-chan’. He’s one of the least chuuni member of the group and can hold normal conversations with others unless it’s about his beloved Sora-chan then he won’t stop being a fanboy and would associate things with her. He’s nice and wouldn’t hesitate in joining whatever antics the other members get into and would go along with their fantasies.
Tumblr media
Nakamura Kazuhiro - is dubbed ‘Black’ and the most in deep with his chuunibyou self. He calls himself and prefers to be called ‘Ryuushouin Touga’ and believes he’s reincarnated from a guy who was a half-demon, half-angel hybrid who has a strong power he must repress or it would mean chaos. The manner in which he talks, the way he describes anything, and his poses and what he trained his pet bird to say is a part of his chuunibyou self.
Tumblr media
Tsukumo Rei - ‘Purple’. Thinks of himself as a schemer and would often act like he’s a badass and mysterious loner but in reality, he’s easily scared and he’s good at houseworkand cares about their cat Benjamin. He also enjoys being in the club despite his loner attitude (that is just a chuunibyou act). He can be easily persuaded to do things through either scaring him (like his what his sisters do) or through flattery (like telling him he’s totally the only one who can do this certain thing). He usually ends up arguing with Futaba once he joins in their group.
Tumblr media
Mikuriya Futaba - ‘Green’. The last member to join in the Hero Club. He’s good at a lot of things and with his cool and aloof personality he easily became popular with girls at their school. He transferred from overseas and as such, he peppers his sentences with English words. He might not act like a chuunibyou but he has his own secrets. He does enjoy doing club activities though and would often get in an arguement with Rei.
My Thoughts:
Okay, so when I looked this up before when it’s still on it’s first week, everyone says it’s a ‘reverse harem’ as it does have the beginnings of one - lone female MC joining an all boy’s club and they’re all good-looking. I expected as such, too but as weeks passed by, I realized it’s not happening. The romance is nearly non-existence with the exception of a few ship tease scenes with a few characters but they’re not really put into focus. The entire show is them all building their friendship with each other especially in the case of Mizuki and Futaba who are both transfer students and the last to join the group. Also, Tomoki only loves Sora-chan lol.
I really liked this show though. Yeah it’s cringy when you watch them acting all weird but it’s not as bad as other shows which also relies on cringe comedy and the reason why is that, to me, what causes most of the ‘pain’ isn’t the embarrassing thing the characters do but the reaction from people around them. Seeing them humiliate themselves is painful and funny to watch but here, there isn’t that as many of the other characters outside the Hero club are used to their chuunibyou actions that they don’t really get a big reaction anymore except from Mizuki who is new.
Also, I expected them to fail or at least cause more trouble than they are able to help when fulfilling requests as in what happens to other shows with quirky characters but here, the only ones they trouble are themselves because they usually go too over the top. They don’t really cause much trouble with everyone else (except that one time at the temple and what I feel is irrational disapproval from the student council) and everyone in and out of their school is thankful for their existence and appreciates their help - I mean, it’s obvious with them getting a bunch of request asking for help from not just students but other people in town which wouldn’t continue if people viewed them as a nuisance which isn’t the case at all.
It’s really fun to watch though - their personality and the way they show their chuunibyou-ness is funny and seeing them slowly becoming real friends (with Mizuki and Futaba’s cases esp.) or showing that they really are friends despite the way they act (esp. in Rei’s case) is heartwarming. I wish I had friends like these in school back then, actually. I mean they’re accepting of how weird you are and overall they just have fun! Them also showing enthusiasm when people ask them for help and them wanting to be able to do so is also nice to watch.
It’s just really cute at times, too!! Futaba speaking in English can feel strange at times and the hints about Mizuki probably having real powers is interesting and Rei doing housework is cute. I’d watch a season 2 if they’d ever make one. There’d be an OVA next year, I hear so I’d probably make a post on that once I watch it.
The theme song is the Vocaloid song created by rerulili with the same name as the title of the show which is where the entire thing originated from but the ones singing are the voice actors for the Hero club (if you search it up on yt, someone had already posted the full version or you can listen to the original one sung by Kagamine Len or the various cover versions that accumulated for years sung by many utaite). The ending song is also a nice and more peaceful song compared to the upbeat OP.
It’s kinda sad this show doesn’t have many fans unlike many shows from this season. I also saw that there were those who dropped it after episode 1. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re into comedy, friendship, and could tolerate chuunibyou weirdness then I recommend you try this show at least!

December 25th-December 31st, 2019 Reader Favorites Archive
The archive for the Reader Favorites chat that occurred from December 25th, 2019 to December 31st, 2019.  The chat focused on the following question:
While being respectful, what’s a comic you think is objectively great but is just not to your subjective tastes?
carcarchu
the first one that comes to mind is purple hyacinth https://www.webtoons.com/en/drama/purple-hyacinth/list?title_no=1621&page=1 by all means i should love this series. i think the art and premise are great but for some intangible reason it just doesn't jive with me for some reason. i still recommend it to others and it's not like i don't read it but personally it just didn't make it feel anything
snuffysam
Honestly? Most of the comics I've read as part of #week_long_bookclub and #comment_storm fall under that umbrella. The vast majority of comics I've been introduced to through the CTP activities are really quite good (there's been exactly one in the book club that I couldn't stomach, and it was because of content/writing i personally found overly edgy & distasteful) - but for one reason or another, they're just not the type of comic I want to keep up with regularly. Too slice-of-life-y, too sad, i couldn't visually distinguish the characters that well, a super-sporadic update schedule/is on hiatus/is getting rebooted, the parts of the story I liked are clearly not things the author wants to focus on moving forward, a non-functional/poorly organized website, etc. All very good in their own right, but for one reason or another is not something I'd want to read one page at a time.
Eightfish
@snuffysam I feel similarly that most of the comics in the book club are not my cup of tea (haha). I wonder if it would be different if some of the comics there were reader suggested instead of author suggested?
keii4ii
I think CTP should remain author-submitted. Readers could suggest to the authors to submit their comic, though.
the majority of comics I encounter everywhere aren't my bag of tea, TBH. And that's probably a big part of the reason why I'm making my own. Gotta feed my inner reader's needs, one way or another
A lot of Western-written comedy, specifically, are lost on me for cultural reasons. Often they seem to be referencing something that I'm not aware of. Or they have to be read in a specific tone that's lost on me, and probably would make a bit more sense to me if voice-acted. Things like that.
Cronaj
For me it's usually art style. I'm pretty picky about art style, and I know for a fact that I'm missing out on a lot of good comics simply because the art styles are not to my tastes. Any style that's too cutesy, simplistic, or "generic" anime just doesn't call to me. There have been outliers that have managed to draw me in anyway, despite the art style, but not a lot. I also just tend to not like gag-a-day comics or slice-of-life. If there isn't a larger story, I get kind of bored. That being said, I also don't tend to enjoy most superhero/ strictly action comics, simply because I can recognize the tropes from a mile away. Not that they're bad, just... outdated? In fact, I LOVE superhero movies, but most superhero movies have adapted the tropes into a new form for the big screen. Here's an example of a comic that I've seen around, laughed at a few of the jokes, and then never felt the desire to consistently read it, just because it's not my style. Brutally Honest: (https://tapas.io/series/Brutally-Honest)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I find myself having the same problem with webcomics that I do with other media - I like to feel like I’m escaping reality. Stories set in our world are hard for me to sit through comfortably. That automatically makes general slice-of-life and romance stories hard for me to get into, unless there’s a strong fantasy/supernatural/sci-fi element to them. That already puts a lot of webcomics out of my range. Because there are SO MANY high school slice of life romance drama webcomics out there. Some of which I know are very highly rated and probably great. They’re just not what my brain craves
Tuyetnhi
strangely enough anything with western high fantasy elements I usually don't read as much compared to romance or slice of life comics lmao
kinda in the same spot to what keii said: a lot of western themes get lost for me and I feel like I need to put my own spin on things if that make sense
Nutty (Court of Roses)
To be fair and honest... I don't really have comics I don't enjoy, or I guess fall too far outside my tastes? Out of the ones I've read, anyways! My reasoning is that I just don't have TIME to read too many comics out there, so when I decide for myself that yes, I'm going to sit down and commit myself to this comic, I look for and find things to enjoy about it, even if it's not normally my cup of tea. The story, the art, the style, the jokes... I try to keep an open mind and enjoy whatever I have the chance to get into, because as an artist I think about the person behind the comic and what kind of story they're trying to tell. I just... really like comics ahahah I wish I had more time to read more!!!!(edited)
FeatherNotes
I agree with @LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) on the 'set in our world ' bit! I find it difficult as well to immerse myself im stories that are in our world with exceptions of an alternate reality or large enough twist that would really differ from what the setting is. Slice of life doesn't really appeal to me, mainly because many comics don't have very stand out designs/personalities for characters that i would gravitate to. To be more specific to the question however, there are certainly quite a few amazing looking comics that don't really float my boat simply bc of style or execution of story or whatnot! Ive been reading one recently that hasn't really stuck to me or left any impact character/story wise, but.....im still reading it! so there def must be something!
Octoflamingo
There are a lot of comics I like but I find myself not reading them after I get to where they last update. I just rarely check in afterwards and usually by the time I do I’ve forgot the plot. I feel that every time I go back to a comic I have to read it all over again to get back to where I was. That can be really time consuming the longer the series is. I also try not to pick up long story oriented series if they aren’t finished because I know I’ll never get to the end of them.
Bear
I say this as a person in the LGBT+ community: I’ve become very tired of comics that centre around a person coming out. Which sucks because they’re super important! But I’ve lived the struggle, everyone close to me has lived the struggle. It’s tiring. What I want is genre stories where the characters are LGBT+, but that’s not necessarily the focus. Luckily in webcomics that’s easier to find. I still have to dig through coming out stories to find them though.
Deo101
Gotta say, super agree with that one Bear.
Eightfish
Same. I like stories where characters are just casually LGBT. Even to the point where they won't even mention that they're gay or lesbian and instead just show up in a gay relationship or naturally bring up their attraction to the same sex. Steven Universe does this really well, I think.
Oh and speaking of suggesting authors to sign up their comics, I think I could have a lot to say about @LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) 's Phantomarine (: Maybe in a few months when the comic gets a little more ahead in the plot?
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
@Eightfish I may submit it after this chapter is done around the beginning of February! I do wish I were further ahead, but there will still be plenty to say after this one wraps up. Thank you for the encouragement!
RebelVampire
If I'm just speaking in general, usually comedy and slice-of-life comics will fall into this category for me even if they're fantastic. I am very, very particular about comedy and slice-of-life. Especially comedy, as I'm usually very specific about the sort of stuff that actually makes me laugh and entertains me. So honestly, a lot of comedy in comics is just not my jam. In a more specific comic sense, Kamikaze to name just one of many: https://kamikazeanimated.com/comic/ The art in the comic is fantastic, the characters really fleshed out and interesting, and even some of the comedy I like. Objectively, I think this is a fantastic comic with a ton of effort put behind it and one everyone should give a chance. That being said, for me personally, I just can't get into the pacing. It's a bit too slow for me even if I think objectively it works fine. So while it's a comic I might enjoy in bulk reads, as a page-by-page thing I just can't do it.
Cap’n Lee (Flowerlark Studios)
To be honest, I can’t really name any comics? I tend to like just about any comic that’s really well done. Obviously I have my preferred genres, but I simply don’t seek out comics that aren’t my thing. If I do read past the first few pages of an objectively well-made comic, chances are I’m going to stick around snd keep reading.
Eightfish
Maybe my own comic? Not that I think it's objectively great, but it is of course more completely to my own taste than any other comic out there. Yet if I try to read my own comic I can't glean any enjoyment out of it over the overwhelming feeling of hearing my own recorded voice played back to me. Anyone else?
keii4ii
That's an interesting answer! I can't say I feel 100% the same, but I can relate to perhaps a facet or two of it.
I don't really read my comic either, after all, even though it's an honest reflection of what I want to read.
Eightfish
Thing is I have another short comic from about 6 years ago that I am now far removed from enough to read objectively. And I notice things I think are well done that I didn't notice before and big flaws that I haven't considered 6 years ago. So I'm worried since I can't read my current comic objectively I don't know what I need to improve on
keii4ii
That's definitely a struggle for me as well. It's what constructive critiques are for, BUT it's not easy finding someone willing, able and well suited to critique your work.
I used to actively solicit concrit on my comic. While I appreciate that every critic spent their time and effort genuinely trying to be helpful, the actual critiques weren't always helpful. You have to be a good critic (it takes skills), and you have to be the right critic for that specific story.
🌈ERROR404 🌈
I totally agree on that keii, a lot of people see concrit as the solution for every issue, but that's just bound for trouble. There are a lot more bad and mediocre critiques than well stated and usable ones
keii4ii
Yeah. There's a reason why the services of a good editor are so highly valued!
Cronaj
I think the problem is that most people who offer critiques are trying to shape the story in a way that they themselves would enjoy more, and not necessarily an objective improvement to the existing story. Offering a critique that also preserves the essence and heart of a story is extremely difficult.(edited)
Eightfish
Also when critique is contradictory- " I love how your comic gets right into the interesting part" vs. " I was really confused by the intro " But I don't know what side I would be on if I was a reader because as the author I would never be confused by my own story.(edited)
keii4ii
Yeah, and even when you get two crits on the same "side" it's possible that it's just skewed data due to small sample size. Like, maybe both of the critics are simply not your target audience. I've found that it helps a LOT if you ask specific questions, instead of just asking for a concrit. Coming up with good questions can be very difficult, though! One I've asked in the past is "did you lose interest while reading the comic? If so, at what point(s)?" and I got helpful answers from that, even from people who weren't the target audience.
Kelsey (Kurio)
I admit, I’m not the best at critiquing, like trying to bring to mind things other than “art looks nice” or “I like that joke” or whatnot
Though I guess it gets easier the more I read and mull over something
🌈ERROR404 🌈
it's sometimes hard to find something good and worthwhile to critique LOL
Kelsey (Kurio)
And of course, how does one define “objective improvement” with works of art/media? Outside of things like improving grammar, but what about in cases where it’s like that on purpose? It’s real hard to be totally objective with criticism when you think about it, even when you try to be objective
keii4ii
This might be getting off topic for the channel, but I think it's better to think of it as "effective for the goals of this work" rather than "objective." If you do X in your work on purpose, but X is not appealing to your target demographic, that's not effective. You need to either not do X, or re-define your target demographic. (Not necessarily the only options in that situation, but you get the point.)
Cronaj
I definitely think that "effective" is a better word for what I meant. It's all about intent. For example, most people generally agree that art style should be consistent in a comic, BUT in some cases (especially in comedy) switching up the art style for a scene or a panel to emphasize a point or subvert expectations (thus making the scene potentially funnier) is a very "effective" inconsistency. Basically, if something is effective for telling the story or instilling a mood, the objective view basically becomes null.
DanitheCarutor
I can get into almost anything, there are very few stories I have trouble with, even if it's a genre I wouldn't normally like. Although there are a couple that I'm really picky with, and that's gag-a-day comics or general comedy. The only ones I can think I've actively read off the top of my head are Oglaf, Perry Bible Fellowship and more recently, Woman World. Other than those few the genres never catch my interest, I'm more for story/character driven comics, with plot and stuff like that. Sometimes a comic doesn't click regardless of genre, for example: Homestuck I tried sooo hard to read this one to see what the hype was about, but the farthest I've ever gotten was maybe 50 pages after several attempts, and that's not because it's bad! The comic just didn't click, and regardless of my taste I probably would recommend it to someone who likes those types of comics.

What do you think of the Bsd stage play?
I think it looks like a lot of fun!
Personally, I’m not a fan of anime-based stage plays myself. I find the nuances and character of manga and anime can’t be translated well onto the stage. I mean, if we look at the adaptations from manga to anime, you can already see how much is lost, and when it goes to live-action films... sometimes we don’t even talk about it. But the stage plays are a different story. I just feel that it isn’t my cup of tea, but I do respect the people who choreograph, write the screenplay and carry out the performance.
If you’re looking for the stage play, here are a few links to get you started!

Howard Lovecraft 5: Yes, This Is The Last One
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Alright chums, let’s do this, home stretch!
- Alright everybody, welcome back to Eldritch Wipeout!
- We’ve had a pretty uneventful day so far, but that might turn around with our next contestant! Standing three feet tall and hailing from Rhode Island, let’s give it up for Howard “Hard R” Lovecraft! *air horns*
Tumblr media
- He’s gonna need to keep a level head for this, Tim.
- That’s for sure, Jack. Always keep your wits about you!
- That is, if you haven’t already lost your mind from revelations no man should bear!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Looks like he’s already running into some trouble with the first trial- And they’re past it already!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- But let’s see how well they do in the second trial!
- We pulled out all the stops on this one...
Tumblr media
...and by “all the stops”, I mean ‘ripped the hell off of Indiana Jones’!
Tumblr media
Don’t forget Howard...in the Aklo alphabet, ‘Jehovah’ begins with an ‘I’!
Tumblr media
- Pretty straightforward, Bob, just gotta find the right tiles to step on --
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Ooh! Do you think he realizes that the words “my father” in that inscription DON’T refer to his father?
- I’m sure he does, John. If the inscription had meant that, it would have said “your father”!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Appears he does NOT understand this, Rick.
- You know kids these days, Bill, they just don’t got the grammar too good.
- Wait, looks like he’s got another idea...could it be?
- I think it is!
- Looks like he’s spelling out ‘Azathoth’ which IS the correct answer!
Tumblr media
- Terrible animation as always, of course.
- No argument there, Dick.
- Just the worst.
Tumblr media
- Anyway, it’s on to the third and final trial! This one’s gonna require a lot of creative thinking...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Looks like he’s planning on reflecting the light from his glowy blue friend, definitely an unconventional solution!
Tumblr media
- I’m not sure that’s how physics works, Fred...
Tumblr media
- Well, it’s working, Don!
- Well, fuck me in the ass with a Honda, Paul, so it is!
- Just goes to show you can’t trust physics in a place like this.
- No you can’t, Ron.
Tumblr media
- I think our boy Howard might just be home free - OH! LOOK at that! A mob of Deep Ones!
- Copy-pasted, by the looks of it!
- Earl, this might be a pickle they’re in now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
waaait a minute...Deep Ones don’t blink!
Tumblr media
- Actually, Mark, it seems like they’re cool! They’re just letting him walk out of there.
- Come to think of it, Ted, I think those might just be some set technicians. They’ve been waiting to start disassembling the course, I think.
- Well then, that’s our cue! We have a winner, ladies gents and assorted entities! Thanks for tuning in!
whew, doing those voices was murder on my throat. Now back to the hostage situation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing much to say here, badguy seemingly wins, activates the ritual, yadda yadda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oola ooh couchez avec moi, c’est soi?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can’t really tell from the screencap, but at the crucial moment the book stops working because...
Tumblr media
...yeah. I’m not sure ‘deus ex machina’ is the right term for a situation involving actual elder gods, but it sure is a convenient development that in no way hinged on the protagonist’s actions, isn’t it? (also wow. They...just did not bother to give that book any texture here, did they?) Anyhoo, the evil plan fails, miserably,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I think this was Pepsi’s slogan back in the ‘90s.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Abdul has finally Outlived His Usefulness™, although he manages a few more lines after being set on fire so I wonder whether that dorky outfit was actually flame retardant.
Tumblr media
And there’s Dagon, just standing there awkwardly because this is his place and he actually has people coming over tomorrow so if you all would please hurry up?
The goodguys actually left before Nyarlahotep had even begun soliloquizing back there, and now they’re back safe and sound (except for Ma Lovecraft who is still dying).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, look who it is! Yeah, they’re safe, no thanks to you. Hope you had a nice cup of tea while everyone else was almost dying.
Tumblr media
He binds the three journals together into The Necronomicon, which is the only thing that can save Howard’s mother (apparently that requires a higher level of magic than awakening freaking Cthulhu).
Tumblr media
Speaking of Mark Hamill, that new Dark Crystal show has been pretty good so far (he’s one of the skeksis in that). Anyways sorry I called you useless, Doc.
Tumblr media
lol that bitch is FADED!
Tumblr media
*ding* Turkey’s done!
Tumblr media
Howard reads from the book to save her. BUT WILL HE BE IN TIME?
Tumblr media
My God, she looks like she’s made of vinyl! SHE’S BACK TO NORMAL, EVERYBODY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There it is, the ONE GOOD BIT in this whole sordid affair. And I’ve capped and posted it, so now you can safely not watch the movie without missing anything.
Tumblr media
So Spot (...is he Cthulhu for real now? I don’t think so but...) Must Go Back To His Home Planet Now, His People Need Him. By the way, I am increasingly sure that this is supposed to be R’lyeh:
Tumblr media
(sorry, Ruh-LAY)
Tumblr media
So the baddies didn’t kill these guys. Ah, too bad, I guess.
Howard shares some meaningful last words with Armitage:
Tumblr media
- And they return (via portal) to their home. Yes, their quiet, peaceful home, with its cozy beds and its tranquil garden and their little cat, Ni-
Tumblr media
...why, who could THAT be?
Tumblr media
I will say this about the animation: it stayed shitty right up to the end.
Tumblr media
...
So...not Nick Fury, then.
Tumblr media
Right now, I feel, the joke is very specifically on me.
Roll credits, including this bit here about how this was actually adapted from a graphic novel:
Tumblr media
Notice that director/producer/voice of Spot/father or husband of half the cast Sean O’Reilly is there, but notice how many other people there are who seem to have had little or nothing to do with this movie. Wonder what that’s about?
Tumblr media
If it’s one of those guys that did this credit art - orders of magnitude better than the animation for most of the actual film - it’s nothing short of a travesty that not only were they not involved with the main project but also that we get to see their stuff now just to taunt us with what might have been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, LOOK at all that! Damn!
Tumblr media
“Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental”, says the movie with the child version of a famous horror author as the main character. SURE, WHY NOT.
WELP THAT’S ALL SHE WROTE - well, all she wrote, maybe, but I still have a bit more to add. So yeah, this was on the whole pretty dismal. Not quite as bad as it could have been, I’ll grant, but it missed most of its major cues. I DID like some things - Doug Bradley played a decent Nyarlahotep, the stuff with Azathoth was neat, and Winfield Lovecraft’s character was actually kind of engaging - even funny - at times. AT TIMES. And I will say that, perversely, Abdul Alhazred’s lackluster character design actually kind of stood out - I don’t think you’ll find very many other depictions of him where he’s Just Some Guy (who happens to be a powerful sorcerer). If nothing else, they pretty diligently avoided racializing him (not even a turban!) - yeah, it’s still true that the one evil human is also the only one with any nonwhite identifiers whatsoever (really just the name, in this case) but considering the source material if that’s the most problematic it gets then we got off SUPER easy.
Bad news is, basically everything else about this blows. The animation only hurts if you have eyes, but even the blind can hold O’Reilly accountable for the decision to cast all his kids. Then there’s the fact that the movie tries to bait us with big names, even though two of the top-billed stars (Plummer and Perlman) have probably less than a minute’s worth of lines between them (and ‘lines’ is a bit charitable in Perlman’s case [no disrespect to Ron, you’ll always be my Hellboy]). Seriously, did you even remember Dr. West until I brought him up just now? Wait, no, don’t actually try to recallAAUGH
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAHH!
And now the Nyquil’s kickin’ in so I’m gonna have to bow out - but fortunately I’ve said pretty much everything I could think of to say anyway. Perhaps one day, when the stars are right, I might recap the other movies, including Howard’s Mother Eats A Whole Chicken. The future is full of mysteries!
...OK, bye.

11/11/11 Tag (V. 4)
I was tagged one last time by @sunlight-and-starskies, so thank you for the tag! Once again I will just be answering the questions, no tagging anyone else or adding more questions.
1) What is your favorite genre to write and/or read about? Why?
I think I answered this one before, but I deal mainly with YA Contemporary or NA fantasy
2) Favorite Book?
Either Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, or The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. For anyone who hasn’t read Pride and Prejudice, I totally understand because it’s just not everybody’s cup of tea BUT if you haven’t read The Hate U Give this is your call to action. Do it. Right now.
3) What do you do to cheer up when it’s been a bad day?
Eat unhealthy amounts of cookie dough.
4) If you had to live in a certain time period, when and where would you choose?
I know we romanticize a lot of previous time periods, but I would not go back to any time period. I wouldn’t want to go back to before women could work/vote, and I definitely wouldn’t want to go back to live before daily showers and constant handwashing were accepted.
5) What’s your dream job?
Editing YA novels
6) What do you do to unwind?
Watch anime (I’m a nerd), or color, or crochet
7) What is your favorite movie? Why?
I have three:
Pride and Prejudice (2005 version only) - it’s a beautiful adaptation and no one can tell me otherwise
Clueless - It’s a good teen movie where you think the MC is going to be a snob but she actually turns out to be a good person, plus the fashion is iconic
Where the Heart Is - It’s just so emotional and funny and adorable and I will always love it
8) Last Book You Read?
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. Now I’m reading The Raven King, also by Maggie Stiefvater.
9) Would you ever publish your WIP(s)?
Heh. That’s the goal.
10) Name one thing about your WIP that you are proud of?
I’m very proud of my characters. I think I managed to create a diverse range of personalities and relationships.
11) If you could have any animal for a pet, what would it be?
I want a pet skunk in the worst way. You can get the gland that produces the smell removed, though they will still spray if nervous, it just won’t smell. Once they become adjusted they’ll stop spraying unless there’s a scarier situation. They’re just like cats but even cuter and I want one sooo badly. But I’d also like a miniature pot bellied pig because they’re so cute and smart. Maybe a hedgehog.
