THANK YOU!! I assume you're talking abt my scene backgrounds like these?

Because I actually got way more into doing backgrounds this year from working on my student film!! ^^ I learn a lot by imitation! So here's some of my big inspirations for background work!

Annette Marnat! They have a blog here on Tumblr actually @annettemarnat! I think they've got a really good eye for colour- and theyre the reason I started using that grainy stipple effect in my backgrounds!!

Ivan Bilibin!! Lovely good detail work and muted colours that highlight the subject really well.

Vyan Duque! The use of the endless horizon line is super interesting! Great and simple shape language and a clear comprehensive understanding of texture. His work is very similar to Marnats in the sense of like. Really eye catching harmonious colours.

so many honestly! i love all types of artstyles for different reasons, so i think my own art style is just a mix of all of these things! i put the ones that are my favourite at the moment in a list:

tadahiro uesugi - particularly the way he handles light in spaces and renders reflections permanently ingrained in my brain

annette marnat - shapes, colours, textures

strausniekas - love his shapes and colours

yoko tanji - style and how they play with empty space

yamane yoshitake - all time favourite; they stopped posting their work online, since it kept being stolen or reposted

naoki urasawa - favourite mangaka; love his expressions!

akira toriyama - dragonbal had a big influence on me as a kid

john singer sargent - colours; this piece particularly!

kat tsai - lighting and backgrounds

yabe sawako - love her fluid lines

rei_17 - lighting *chef kiss*
