psst, hey kid *I slink out of the shadows from an alley you don't remember being there and open my trench coat, revealing manga volumes* Read Blue Flag. It's a gotdamn pinnacle of the graphic narrative medium. Some capital L literature. The way that Kaito fellow wordlessly expresses interiority and queer experiences through body language and paneling? Unparalleled. I swear it on me grandmamas' graves. Ya won't regret it, kid *I slink back into the shadows. You look down and volume 1 is in your hands*

You know how the losing side of the Supreme Court publishes a dissent for each case? I wonder if Spock and McCoy do this in their collaborative papers...
Spock publishing an addendum to Emergency Tissue Regrowth in Silicon Cycle Life Forms saying "this is why Dr. McCoy's solution, while working perfectly in practice, is illogical in theory"
Bones dissenting in On the Study and Destruction of Massive Single-Celled Organisms like "Spock was right in the end but here's why I'm still mad about it"
Jim: How can you work closely together, solve the problem, come to the same conclusion, and still dissent?
Bones: just watch us

The Weight of You
It is an unspoken rule amongst medical staff that this bed belongs to one patient only, that said patient’s care will not be handed off to a supervising nurse, but rather dealt with personally by the CMO.
Said CMO stares at the pristine bed and recalls every version of idiot that’s lain in it; all the blood that’s been stained on the sheets during hemorrhaging, the pain induced bile that has slicked the floor, the sweat soaked into the now sterilised pillow.
There are worn marks under his feet from how often he’s stood in this very spot. It’s a new ship. They aren’t even done their first five year mission.
Leonard’s hands tighten over the railing until his knuckles are white enough to match the sheets.
“But god dammit, McCoy,” he mutters under his breath, eyes hazed over with visions of the past and undoubtedly his near future. “You don’t do anything the easy way, you bastard.”
