The other week I was at lunch with some friends who have a very adorable toddler and I suddenly realized what Aziraphale reminded me of in the scene where he tries the ox ribs. His face and his reactions are exactly those of a baby trying food for the first time. People have used many metaphors and descriptions of his expression and response but that’s the one that really jumps out at me.
There’s that moment where the baby clearly has no clue what is happening in their mouth, a reminder to onlookers that eating involves a really weird set of sensations that we tend not to think about once we’ve been doing it for a while. Then they adjust enough to actually pay attention to the taste and texture, and if it’s good their face absolutely lights up.
That’s what we see in Aziraphale’s expression- instinctive disgust at the weirdness of how it feels until he processes the actual sensations, and then he is sold. The sudden shift from repulsion to confusion to surprise shifting to a very clear “more”…to me it couldn’t be any clearer.
It’s one of the reasons I think the scene makes me so uncomfortable - because it’s so innocent and so violent at the same time (part of the visceral sense of violence, I think, comes from the fact that it is meat he’s eating). It’s an act of defiance, a step further into the human world, but it’s one that Aziraphale isn’t fully aware of, I don’t think. Innocent aggression. He loses control and stops thinking, gets sucked into the moment in a way characteristic of children. It’s almost a Cookie Monster moment.

Ache.
Many types of ache exist in the world.
From the physical ache of old injuries -
His hands, so gnarled and broken over the years, no longer able to thread the line of a fishing pole. Scar tissue marred his face and pulls at the corner of his lip; his back is more broken skin then muscle any more. The once welcomed breeze off the ocean now stings at his injuries and gives him reason to shiver that evening.
He was forced to his knees beneath the glow of a single lantern, a motion that had him murmuring with pain. The years had not been kind to the old captain, the scars that disfigured him could attest. But a hissed growl from the Roegadyn woman at his side had silenced him.
She had promised him freedom. Spoken of his hearts true desire, the only dreams he still clung to so hopelessly in the middle of the night when sleep was outside his grasp. She was not a kind woman, but what else did he have to lose? He was a broken, lonely man, patiently waiting for death to claim him. Oh the sweet embrace it would be; at least he would be reunited with those who had parted before him.
But this offer? This once in a lifetime chance? He saw no other option than to reach for it with both mangled hands. Just maybe it would be enough to breathe life into him once more; to rekindle a spark that had been snuffed out years ago. Time and time again the little flame in his thundering heart had left him. He has suffered so much loss.
“Twelve, please...” He whimpered brokenly to any deity that would hear him. “Give me this at least...”
Just as his captor rose to her feet, a massive ax clutched in her hands, footsteps echoed.
They were along the coastal region of La Noscea to be sure, some long abandoned port that was previously overrun with carnivorous beasts. What were once pristine white buildings were now dilapidated skeletons. The only light casting long shadows was the swaying lantern, rocking listlessly in the breeze. The ebb and flow of the tide beneath the dock seemed to fade with the approach of the stranger; everyone in his company, including himself, held their breath.
From the darkness she emerged, stepping cautiously into the pool of color and light. The dock creaked beneath her footfalls. And all at once, Eyriwolk choked on a strangled gasp.
Snowy white hair glittered beneath the faint lanterns glow; familiar mismatched eyes widening as she looked him over. He would know this girl from a crowd of thousands and it made his broken heart swim for the first time in many moons.
Caution was thrown to the wind as the ran the short distance between them, the jetty beneath them all swaying in the tide. Although shackled still as he was, he raised his bound arms to catch her as she hurled herself to her knees before him, her own arms immediately thrown around his neck.
Scars along the length of his neck and scattered across his now thin shoulders kept him from feeling the sting of tears falling, staining his already tattered and dingy shirt. But he felt her sobs in the way her shoulders hitched; he could hear it in her broken hiccuped voice. His own tears welled and crested over his swollen cheeks.
His daughter. His sweet, beloved daughter.
She had grown since the last he laid eyes on her. From a little pup with a permanent scowl, to a beautiful young woman. He had never known such pride until now.
The woman pulled herself from him, taking his too thin shoulders in her hands and looked him over with bleary eyes.
“Da’...” There was hurt in her voice as she took in what the years without her had done to him. Once a powerful Roegadyn himself, who could eat supper for two without batting an eye and sang sea shanties well into the night with his crew; now little more than skin, bone, and pain.
“She said I could see ya’ again, lass.” Eyri choked on his own voice, the smile on his lips hurting his cheeks. How long had it been since last he smiled?
With this, mismatched eyes lifted from his to stare up at the company he shared.
There had been three others in total. The ax wielding mountain of a woman, Eyri had to double take at the resemblance she shared with his own daughter. A hyuran woman, young and frail who hadn’t spoken a word since they had taken him from his handlers. The way her eyes seemed vacant had unnerved him dearly. And the third, a Garlean man. However, he was more machine and technology than man any longer. Magitek parts kept him together like some old broken toy, a patchwork of metal and weeping flesh.
The roe woman moved between them, her ax breaking their reunion.
Kiri reeled back on her heels, not quite knocked back but still unsettled. “Yer letter,” his daughter ground out as she rose to her feet. So tall she had become, no longer the little pup he had found stranded on some island out at sea. “Ya’ wanted ta’ bargain?”
Her eyes shift between the company. Eyri feels his stomach churn as the conversation begins to fill in the missing pieces he lacked. Why would anyone free a slave to reunite him with lost family? Kindness? Not in this cruel world.
But he had been desperate to see her. At least one last time.
It was the Garlean that advanced next, his movements mechanical and jittery. “My my! You’ve grown!” He announced with a voice filled to the brim with joy and happiness. Did he know Kirishimi? Had Eyri’s assumptions of her past been accurate all these years?
Was Kirishimi Garlean?
But Kiri crossed her arms, shifting her weight from one foot to the other impatiently. “Sorry, mate, but have we met?” Before she receives an answer, she moves on to her next question. “What do you want?”
“Ah, you waste no time I see. Fair enough.” The Garlean man reaches a hand for Eyriwolk’s head, patting ever so softly at his now silver touched hair. If he had been stronger, younger, Eyri would have taken that hand and cast the man into the ocean in one swift motion. Instead he deigned to grimace. “A trade, my dear Warrior of Light.”
Eyri’s stomach falls. His blood runs cold as ice. His round eyes stare blankly up at his daughter, her stony features and furrowed brow only causing his heart to thunder like drums in his ears. “No-”
“You, for your fathers freedom.”
“No!” Eyri finds his voice at last and calls out with a boom that shakes his core and echoes along the forgotten stonework of the ruined port. His eyes search hers although she does not remove her fixated stare from the Garlean before her. “Kirishimi, you bull headed- Don’t’cha DARE think-”
It is the sound of metal grinding metal that stops him cold. The blade of an ax drags across his shackles, just shy of taking fingers. A practiced swing or a lucky miss; no matter which, the action had startled both he and Kirishimi.
There’s a feral look to her mismatched eyes as she glares and snarls at the roe woman. “Bitch-”
“Not my name,” The woman sighs casually and hefts the ax over her shoulder. “But nice guess.”
“Ladies! Please!” The mechanical man steps to the other side of them. “Lani, take a seat and cool off for a moment, hm?”
There’s a groan of protest, but the woman abides and marches out of Eyri’s sight, no doubt alongside the other girl lurking in the shadows at the edge of the dock.
“Look at your father, dear. The man who raised you. Took you in and cared for you.” The man kneels beside Eyri now, grabbing him forcefully by the chin and tilting his head back. He squints against the light of the lantern but sees the concern glittering in Kiri’s eyes. The tears beginning to shimmer beneath her thick lashes. “He hasn’t much life left to him. Refuse and he will be returned at once to the slaver that neglects him.”
Eyri tries to plead with Kirishimi but his voice is lost to the Garlean man.
“Where’s Lynawyb?” She asks at last, tearing herself to look away from him. “The letter said-”
“Ah. There was a... lack of communication, to put it simply. At the time the missive had been sent, we had the full intention to return both your parents to you.” He says this sorrowfully, as if truly apologizing for the misunderstanding.
Eyri’s heart echoes with a hollow thump in his chest. His wife... His wife...
Kiri lurches forward and grabs the collar of the mans shirt, dragging him to his feet despite the weight of his metal parts. Her lips curl back as a snarl fills the night air. “Where is she?!”
But the man is once more unaffected and merely chuckles. “...Why not ask your father? Eyriwolk, be a sport and tell her?”
Her grip loosens and the man slips away as her eyes slide back down to Eyriwolk. Her lips tremble even as her jaw slackens. “...What?”
“Gods, please!” Eyri fights through a sob that makes his throat hoarse. He casts his eyes away, shaking, his whole body shaking. “She shouldn’t have’ta hear it.” The memory will always be fresh in his mind. From the scent of ash and smoke, to the wails and cries echoed on the wind.
But without telling her, Eyriwolk has already shown her.
Kiri crouches suddenly with a hand to her temple.
Lynawyb, his beloved wife... The woman she called mother...
Eyriwolk’s last memory of her is of a frail woman cradled in his arms. Crimson blossoms across her apron. Blood splutters in her mouth and spills over her lip as she stares up at her husband with hopeful, broken eyes. She had been cut down in an attempt to free themselves, and others, from their hell. Countless others lay motionless around them while the house of their captor burned.
“Don’t’cha cry....” Lyna had whispered. “I’ll go see... Fraethota first... I’m sure she’s waitin’...” Trembling as she was, the dying woman clutches her husbands hand. “...A-And if you see her.... Tell our little pup.... Her ma’ loves her....”
To the ache of the heart-
Hours had come and gone. She tried to drown out the pain as her lip was split from a punch; desperate to busy her mind with thoughts of Hien and the others as she heard her arm snap and Lani curse her to the Hells and back.
Hien...
His coronation was only days away. He had been a child at a carnival with excitement for it as he and his company delighted in the details of the festivities they would have. He would be King or Emperor or something along those lines, Kiri couldn’t focus long enough to remember which it was... But she knew he would be perfect for the job. He would do his father and mother proud while ruling Doma. But... he would have to do it alone.
Eyriwolk...
Kiri tried to forget the events that transpired only hours ago before she had been thrown like cargo onto an airship. The trade agreement had been complete, she should have been elated. Her father was a free man once more. It would be a shell of a life, broken as he was... But what better gift was there than freedom?
The chains at her wrist rattle and slither across the floorboards as she lays herself down. Lani had exhausted herself for the evening, talk of resuming her punishment in the morning was the last Kiri had heard before she slammed the door to her cell and locked it.
Lynawyb...
A sob, painful as it was to even breathe, ripped through Kiri as she lay curled in on herself, knees to her stomach and shackled hands buried against her drumming heart. The echo had granted her one last chance to see Lynawyb alive. All she had ever wanted for all these lonesome years was to know her family was still breathing and living... but what sort of life had that been? How long had Lynawyb been waiting for rescue? How many nights had she stared up helplessly at an expanse of star dusted sky and wished on every falling star for her freedom? Just how many nights... did Lynawyb dream of the day the Warrior of Light... her own daughter... save her from her misery?
Coward...
She had been a coward for not searching for them all these years. Fear of what she might find had kept her from investing herself to the task... And now?
She paid the price...

ANNOUNCER Futuristic Trail Mix Productions presents Micro-Cosmos: A Science Fiction Podcast. [THEME MUSIC FADES OUT]
[sfx: footsteps, button press]
ATHENA Transmitting on April 8th, 2094, from approximate position on Ophiuchus-22, North 51 degrees West 111 degrees, this is Officer Athena Romero: combination communications-security specialist and resident chronicler with Omnitarian Establishment Crew #0137-F. This is day 12 of our terraforming mission, and our 8th day of hauling ship to the rendevous point. I'm happy to report that the last 24 hours have been pleasantly uneventful, given our... typical circumstances and somewhat whimsical encounters. Dr. Couvillion has continued expanding upon his... catalog, if you will, of flora and fauna he's found on the planet's surface. According to Cal at 0600 this morning, he has gotten it up to 34 items. Impressive. He is, though, still waiting for authorization to send what he collected last week in for analysis, so... I think he would be... Rather appreciative if you could get back to him on that. Please. Hmm what else... oh! Petty Officer Abbott has been busy trying to add... I think they called them 'firewalls'? To Cal's programming, to try to prevent any more... technical accidents, when Cal inevitably gets bored. They are so far unsuccessful, but... I have faith. They were able to successfully repair their ocular functions on Monday after Cal unintentionally disabled them, so... I don't know, we'll see. Commander de la Cruz has been making sure that morale is high, given the long trek. The temperatures on Ophiuchus aren't too terribly hot, only reaching a high of a scalding 25 degrees Celsius yesterday, so being sweaty and miserable hasn't been a tremendous source of torment during our hike... but being painfully bored certainly has, though. She gave Felix a... deck of cards last night. I'm not where she got it, or why she has it, or why she gave it to him, jokinglybut I am quite disappointed she has never invited me to a game of Cribbage. Uh... Aside from that, she has also been doing a wonderful job of navigating us towards our rendezvous point. Either that or we are.. almost definitely screwed, soo... Here's to hoping. I have been spending a large amount of my time in the woods alongside Dr. Couvillion. Not only to serve as protection from... you know, the possibility of predatory creatures, but also to observe for myself! The wildlife here is... gorgeous. Similar to much of what you'd find on Earth but... I don't know, I can't put my finger on it. The more flower reminiscent plants have a much stronger smell than those on Earth, though. Not bad, by any means, but... strong. Like perfume.  It's all very coordinated and... matchy? The fragrances all complement each other. And very well, at that. I feel like it could make the perfect bouquet. Like it was made to make the perfect bouquet, in a metaphorical sense. They're... perfect. I like it. The plant life, I mean. I can... pretty confidently assume that Felix does, as well. I think we all do, if in... very different ways. I think Miles has less of an admirable view of plant life and more of a... sort of... I don't know. I was going to say 'respect,' but that doesn't... Sound entirely right, either. They... acknowledge its importance but... that's about the extent of their reverence. Regardless, I think everyone else is at dinner right now, so I'll... wrap this up and get the two of us back to camp. We're almost halfway through our hike to the rendezvous point right now, and should thus be arriving in... approximately 2-3 weeks. As stated previously, morale is... about as high as it can be while we make our boring... boring way. Outside of all of that, I currently have nothing left to report. So... For now, Romero out. [sfx: button press, footsteps] ATHENA (CONT’D) Are we ready to go, Felix?
FELIX Should be, assuming you are done with your log?
ATHENA Yeah, just finished up. Find anything else?
FELIX Well- [sfx: comms turning on] ALEX (O.S.) You two on your way back yet?
ATHENA Yes, sir... Why, is something wrong?
ALEX (O.S.) No, just a... small situation back at camp. Not an emergency but we could certainly use you guys here with us.
ATHENA 10-4. We'll pick up the pace. ALEX (O.S.) Copy. Thanks. The comms clicks off.
ATHENA Any idea what that was about?
FELIX No. Only one way to find out though, yes?
ATHENA Yeah...Head right on, then?
FELIX Right on. *** ALEX So you're sure you didn't hear anything?
MILES Yes. I was- I was just getting my food. I came out of the tent to sit at the camp. Is that so-
CAL You hesitated.
MILES Oh, shut it, you insufferable little- [sfx: footsteps] ALEX Alright, you two. I wasn't accusing anyone, Miles. I just wanted to know if there was anything you heard or saw that could help us figure out what did do it. I'm not going to put you through trial over a-
FELIX Why is the bag outside of the tent?
ATHENA Why is the bag... slashed open- what happened?
ALEX That's what we're trying to figure out. Glad you two could join us, though. If there's some wild, carnivorous beast out there hunting us down, we're probably better as a unit than alone, right? Right, Felix, there's not a wild, carnivorous beast out there hunting us down?
FELIX Well... [The rest of the crew groans.] CAL On April 7th at 2200 hours, Dr. Couvillion left the following report in his Wildlife Catalog:"Footprint. Reptilian in nature. Tridactyl. Approximately 20 centimeters in length. Located in the southwest forest. Likely predatory." [They groan again.] FELIX I said 'likely!' Not to mention that it was merely a footprint and I have no other correlating information. Some... twigs could have left that.
MILES Some artistic ass twigs-
ALEX Miles.
MILES Commander, you heard what Cal said!
ALEX I did. And it all sounded theoretical to me. Everyone just needs to calm down, it'll be fine. Felix, do you think that there's... a probability that that footprint and the... tear in the bag could be related? Was it pointed towards the camp or anything?
FELIX I wasn't... necessarily looking, at that moment. If we want more information on the classification and nature of this creature, we'll have to go back into the forest and conduct some actual research. MILES No way. ATHENA Let's do it.
MILES Athena!
ATHENA Miles, look at this.
[sfx: the bag rustling as Athena opens it]
ATHENA (CONT’D) First Aid equipment. Bandages, hydrocortisone ointment, antiseptics. If this thing is a legitimate threat, then we need to do something about it, seeing as we've already contaminated and/or shredded the majority of our medical supplies. One of us trips and accidentally gashes our knee open, we're screwed. God forbid someone gets slashed by whatever was sharp enough to trash a polyurethane nylon bag and layers of tough equipment. I... I really don't think this should be up for debate.
ALEX She has a point. If we sit around and wait for whatever it was to come back, it might end up jeopardizing the security of our other equipment. Equipment that we really can't afford to lose. Communication devices, the tent...
FELIX Rations.
ALEX Exactly. Not particularly a risk I'm willing to take when we're lightyears away from base.
[Miles sighs.]
ALEXl You'll be fine, Miles. We've been in the woods dozens of times, now, and we're all still here. Limbs and all.
MILES I know, but... I mean, we've got how much more time before we run out of starlight? An hour? Thirty minutes?
ALEX You've got some nice glasses there, Abbott, don't they do anything? Transitionals, perhaps? New scotopic models?
Flashlight, dude. Felix and Athena go out after dark all the time.
CAL "Nothing routs us but the villainy of our fears," Officer Abbott.
ATHENA Was that Shakespeare-
MILES Cal-
FELIX Miles are you... afraid of the dark?
[Miles groans.]
ALEX Right, then. Into the woods to Grandmother's house we go. Everyone grab a bag and make sure your flashlights are still secured to your belt. We'll head out in 10, get a quick dinner if you need to.
CREW (varying) Yes, sir.
ALEX Oh, and Athena?
ATHENA Yes, sir?
ALEX Nice thinking. ***
ALEX What were those coordinates again, Cal?
CAL North 51 degrees West 111 degrees.
ATHENA North 51 West 111? That's not far from where we were earlier this afternoon. I wasn't... looking out for anything, but I... don't particularly remember seeing anything indicating that there's a... You know, large, reptilian predator out there. You're sure those are it?
CAL That is the approximate center of what we generally refer to as the "southwest forest." So, yes. I'm quite sure, Athena.
MILES "The southwest forest" is a pretty friggin' vague location, Cal. There's no way you could find a... I don't know, more precise target or something?
CAL Of course, Officer Abbott! Give me a moment as I integrate myself into Dr. Couvillion's hippocampus and see the exact location of the footprint measured at a mind-boggling 20 centimeters in length somewhere in an undefined, unexplored, unmeasured forest of foreign flora- and, more importantly, fauna- to get you a "more precise target" since you can't bother walking the extra 0.8 kilo-
MILES Cal, you need to drop this attitude with me! I'm trying to get things done and you're acting like it's some otherworldly request! Just do your job, is it that-
ALEX Hush, you two.
What is taking Felix so long?
MILES Probably making himself a gourmet meal with the trail mix...
[sfx: footsteps, a bag jangling]
FELIX Sorry for the delay, I had to- What's with the staring?
ALEX That's a... lot of equipment you've got there, Felix.
FELIX Well, I figured we would require a particular level of, how do you say... expertise? And as our one and only Chief Science Officer and the only biologist I know of for a couple of lightyears, I figured I would bring some of my equipment. Maybe make it a bit of a learning experience for the less knowledgeable.
Such as Miles.
MILES Now, look here-
ALEX Play nice. That's all actually useful though, right? It's not just going to slow us down?
FELIX No, of course not. It's a collection of hunting and trapping supplies and portable evaluation equipment. If things go as we're expecting, it should all come to use.
ALEX Good, good.
[Alex claps.]
ALEX (CONT’D) Alright. Athena and Miles, you two stay close and keep tabs on each other. Felix and I will take the lead. If you see anything out of place, anything at all, let us know immediately. We should reach the approximated position in... mm, Cal, what do you think?
CAL At your average speed of 13.87 kilometers per hour, I think shooting for 15-20 minutes is your likeliest estimation, Commander.
ALEX Call it 17, then. We've got twenty-ish minutes of starlight left, so make sure your flashlights are secured and you've got your eyes peeled. Not entirely sure what we're looking for, so be ready for just about anything.
Cool... Onward, then. [sfx: footsteps]
***
[sfx: footsteps, birds chirping, forest ambiance]
MILES Hey, Athena?
ATHENA Yes, Miles?
MILES You're the, like... bodyguard, right?
ATHENA [laughs] Security specialist, bodyguard, however you'd like to put it. Yes, I am. Why?
MILES So you...You have a knife or something, right?
ATHENA Yes... It's not exactly going to gut a modern dinosaur, but I have a pocketknife. So does Felix, I think.
[Miles mumbles an affirmation.]
May I ask why you're asking me this?
MILES Oh. No reason.
ATHENA You're sure? No reason at all?
MILES Yes. Well, no. I mean. Well... you know.
ATHENA I... don't. You know you can talk to me, Miles, right? I know I'm not the, uh... social butterfly, that Dr. Couvillion and Commander de la Cruz are, but I'm still your crew member and I'm not going to... bite, or whatever. [chuckles.] I've been told I'm actually quite pleasant to talk to, on occasion.Miles awkwardly chuckles back in response. Before they have time to say anything, though,
ATHENA I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to make you look like an idiot earlier, I swear, I wasn't. I just... that was a lot of medical supplies, and we've still got a ways before we reach the rendezvous point, so I was... worried, at the implications of possibly losing anything more. I didn't mean to seem... aggressive, or anything, and I am genuinely very sorry if I came across that way.
MILES Oh, no, yeah, no, you're fine. I didn't think much of it. I was being... Stupid, so... No, I get it.
I was asking because of the, uh... "modern dinosaur," by the way. It's getting dark out, so I was just thinking about it.
ATHENA I'm honoured that you think I could take on a potentially 5 meter, thick-skinned dinosaur on my own, Officer Abbott.
MILES Yeah, yeah...Miles stops walking for a moment, as Athena continues to walk.
[sfx: jangling of Miles searching their belt, a slight droning glitch]
MILES (CONT’D) Hey, wait up a minute!
ATHENA What was that?
[sfx: repeated clicking]
MILES My flashlight's not turning on!
ATHENA Stay there, give me a second!
Commander, could you two turn back for a moment?
ALEX (O.S.) Yes, turning around now. Everything alright?
ATHENA Yeah, we're fine, just...
[sfx: jangling, clicking from Athena]
ATHENA Torches aren't turning on. Low visuals. Soon none, most likely.
ALEX (O.S.) Fantastic. We'll be there in a minute or two. See you then. Or... not, apparently. de la Cruz out.
[Athena sighs.]
[sfx: jangling, clicking]
ATHENA Miles-
MILES Sorry.
[sfx: forest ambiance] [sfx: a sudden scuttling]
MILES Athena, what the hell was that?
ATHENA I don't know. Stay quiet, I'll go check it out.
[sfx: footsteps]
MILES What? Athena, don't be an idiot, get back here, what are you-
Athena? Are you- [sfx: comms click on] ALEX (O.S.) Hey, our-
[Miles screams.]
ALEX (O.S., CONT’D) -flashlights aren't working either. Not sure what's going on. We should be approaching in a second, though, so just keep an ear out. Copy?
ATHENA(O.S.) Miles? Miles, are you okay?
MILES Uh- yeah, I'm okay, I'm fine, ah
[sfx: button press on comms]
MILES (CONT’D) Copy! Copy. We, uh... we heard something and, unless Felix has taken a liking to scuttling around on forest floors like a squirrel, I think it might be our predator. Athena went to go look, not sure why in Hell she would, but she's... away. A couple meters, at least.
ATHENA (O.S.) I'm fine, don't worry about me. You two should get here as quickly as possible, though, I can hardly see the back of my hand right now, let alone a potentially deadly predator. I think we'll take any help we can get.
ALEX (O.S.) Copy. Okay, how about this. Give us 15 more seconds to cover some distance, and then we'll start a count off. Make sure everyone is accounted for and get some approximated positions. Me, Felix, Miles, Athena, Cal. Out loud, no comms. Make sense?
MILES Yes, sir.
Well, actually, uh...Cal has been. Shy. For the past few minutes. So unless they've had a major change of heart, I'm not sure how willing they would be to-
ALEX (O.S.) Okay, Miles. Noted. Are we good, Cal? Athena?
ATHENA (O.S.) 10-4.
ALEX (O.S.) Got it, Felix?
FELIX (O.S.) Got it. Uh... what was that about Cal?
ALEX (O.S.) They're... fine. I don't think they plan on running away anytime soon. We can check on them once we get things sorted out. Not the first time they've been... antisocial with us.
Okay, everyone turn your comms off. Listen for our voices. De la Cruz out.
[sfx: comms all click off, forest ambiance]
ALEX ONE!
FELIX TWO!
MILES Three!
ATHENA Four!
ALEX One!

UNKNOW DISTORTED VOICE FIVE.
[The group SCREAMS, chaos ensues.]
[sfx: various shuffling, running, collisions]
[Athena and Alex exclaim.]
ALEX Are you okay?
ATHENA I think- are you?
ALEX Hell if I know!
FELIX Miles?!
[Miles shrieks.]
FELIX Miles, it's me, calm down!
MILES Sorry, I didn't-
ALEX Everyone, calm-
[CAL laughs. And keeps laughing.]
CAL Oh, you should've seen the looks on your faces! I mean, I couldn't exactly see, but imagining was just as fun! That was great, that was great...
MILES What?
CAL What? It was just a prank, Miles. If this was you, you'd tell me to 'lighten up.’
MILES I think you have a really twisted view on what I think is funny, Cal.
ALEX Cal, this... this is beyond unacceptable. What the hell were you th-
[sfx: a monstrous roar]
[The crew screams, Cal’s boot-down jingle plays]
ALEX Run. RUN, GO!
[sfx: running footsteps]
ATHENA Here, look! Behind here!
MILES So does anybody... want to explain to me... what the hell just happened?
MILES Anyone at all? FELIX Did any of you... actually see the specimen?
MILES Thank you, for not answering my question at all.
FELIX No, Miles, I'm serious. Did any of you catch a glimpse of it? Size estimations, speed, anything?
ALEX I don't think so, Felix. Why? Did you catch something we didn't?
FELIX Not exactly...
[sfx: jingling, shuffling of Felix’s equipment]
FELIX Despite the, ah... acoustics and tone of the beast in question, I don't actually think it... well, hm...
ALEX Felix? What are you getting at?
FELIX I have a theory that this beast may not be quite as beastious as aforementioned, sir. The scale is... not quite adding up to me.
MILES ... what.
FELIX I'll be right back, sir.
[sfx: footsteps of Felix sprinting off]
ALEX Felix- Oh, for the love of-
[sfx: footsteps of Alex sprinting off]
ATHENA Alex!
[sfx: footsteps of Athena sprinting off]
MILES Athena!
[sfx: footsteps of Miles sprinting off]
*** ATHENA Transmitting on April 8th, 2094, from our current base. We have now reached 2100 hours and I...frustratedWhat a day it has been, Headquarters. Following my previous log, sent out approximately 2 hours ago, Dr. Couvillion and I returned to base to find our primary first aid bag slashed open. Contaminated, trashed, and, mostly, useless.
From that point on, it was somehow deduced that a.... reptilian predator was out to sabotage us. Nothing has since pointed against such a deduction, however... the creature is still nowhere to be found. We had a close encounter, though, following an... incredibly tasteless joke from Cal. They later expressed to me that they did it as an act of retaliation. They said it had something to do with their... dismissal. Being used as an asset and nothing more. Not getting to fully interact with the crew like the rest of do, barely being able to get a word in, period. I get that. I don't think what they did was appropriate at all, that's not what I'm saying, but... That feeling. That disconnect. I get it. Regardless, we proceeded to get chased behind a tree. Doctor-
[sfx: footsteps MILES You're telling me. You had. A net. This entire time?
FELIX I told you I had trapping equipment, Miles. I just never got the chance to set anything useful up since somebody here couldn't deal with a broken torch...
MILES Yours was broken too?
FELIX Ah, yes, but I didn't make Athena call up Commander de la Cruz, did I?
[Miles and Felix argue in the background.]
ATHENA Uh, sorry... Doctor Couvillion then set back out, which led to... a bit more chaos. Just what we needed. We then reported back to base, and he was... incredibly insistent about heading back out. So... he and Miles pushed back into the trees. After we all rested for a few minutes. I held back to watch over base, and Commander de la Cruz followed them close behind, with Cal, to make sure they didn't kill each other. Sounds like he had a net. I don't see anything of importance though, so... I'll update later. [sfx: comms click]
ATHENA Anything?
MILES No, just a bunch of stupid twigs.
ATHENA Great.
FELIX It could've at least been a learning experience if someone had put in the smallest twinge of effort. But alas... Miles is doomed to brainlessness.
ALEX GUYS! Guys, you might want to check this out!
MILES She was in the forest?
ATHENA Yes, now go, go go go...There is a shuffling as they all run back to Alex.
FELIX What did you- [gasps].
AWWWWW. Oh my god, that is the most adorable thing I have ever seen...
ALEX Isn't it?
[sfx: the creature murmurs]
MILES That is the most hideous thing I've ever laid eyes on.
CAL Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Miles.
ATHENA Felix, do you know what that is?
FELIX No. However, its build is very similar to that of a cougar cub, and its reptilian frill, tridactyl state, and scaley nature....
Well, for starters, it's clearly only a baby. Aside from those claws, it couldn't hurt a fly.
[sfx: a single step forward]
[The crew whispers at him.] [sfx: the creature squeaks]
FELIX Isn't that right, little guy? You wouldn't hurt a tiny, little fly, would you? No you wouldn't, no you would not... How does Mercutio sound for a name? Little Mercutio-
[sfx: the creature hisses and sprays]
[Felix screams, the crew exclaims.]
ALEX FELIX! Are you okay?
CAL Doctor Couvillion?!
MILES FELIX!!
ATHENA Are you alright??
FELIX Yes, I'm- I'm fine... Just stings... Bad Mercutio! Bad!
[sfx: the creature hisses and scurries off]
ALEX Dammit.
CAL Don't worry, Commander. The probability of one of Doctor Couvillion's traps catching the creature is incredibly-
[sfx: a trap springs, the creature yelps]
CAL (CONT’D) Likely!
ALEX Joyous day...
Right, Felix, let's get your face checked out. Athena, go see what the situation is at the trap. Cal, maybe back some of the newfound data to the catalog with Miles?
CAL Yes, sir.
Alex undoes their projector from her wrist and hands them to Miles.ALEXGet along with each other. We'll all bed down in 30. CREW (varying) Yes, sir.

some ideas for Sakaar
planet hulk is on my mind, so have some Sakaar thoughts:
the planet itself is a fusion of its portrayal in the original Planet Hulk storyline, and it’s look in Thor Ragnarok. it’s a rough, extreme world where things are so ferocious that superhuman-typical power levels are required to just survive, and it used to be a chaotic mess of a conquering empire dominated by an alien species forcing all into compliance. IT is a very bombastic place, however, full of glowing neon, architecture out of an 80s music video, and a populace drawn from all over the multiverse,
the planet is (now) a green and lush place, full of deserts not yet reclaimed, but even those are gradually turning into savannahs. elsewhere, forests, jungles, swamps and wetlands dominant depending on climate. in recent times, it has become absurdly fertile and full of life, and plant life grows absurdly fast. Sakaar’s population is natrually predisposed to extreme levels of strength and power, but it holds more power for its ability to export vast amounts of food and feed an enormous number of planets, Sakaar feeds empires, or so it is said, and those worlds depend on its favor.
it is still a dangerous world. almost all native fauna is at least inclined towards carnivorousness, most plant life is known to consume living meat when given the opportunity, and the entire planet can be politely described as a death trap. the weather regularly changes at random, storms capable of wiping out cities regularly sweep the continents, the tides are equivalant to tsunamis, and people tend to explode during thunderstorms... and that’s just the weather. giant hordes of carnivorous kaiju and Monster Hunter-appropriate beasts roam the lands in vast numbers, consuming all in their path; hyper-aggressive predators are extremely common.
to survive, people must be strong, cunning and tough, and the planet has become home to several notable species that dominate its local cultures:
the krogan of Mass Effect (a reptillian race resembling alien tortoises, with a touch of shark) having largely established themselves here and thriving in the rough climate. they’re not particularly common, as yet, but their numbers are growing and they are incredibly well adapted to the harsh conditions of Sakaar’s more outlying regions. they generally live in the more desolate regions that even others won’t touch, and are rather smug about it. They’re very large aliens, standing over fifty feet tall and can be even bigger, if you count their humps.
the Natives of Sakaar, as the name suggests, are the original indigenous species, and have made great success since the ascension of the Sakaarson to rulership, an insectoid species, they are based off of the ones from the original comic, but are physically modeled after Miek as he appeared in Thor Ragnarok. Colorful sapient insects that resemble hard-shelled isopods, they are naturally adapted to digging in soft areas such as sand or dirt, and their limbs are surprisingly good at manipulating their environment, but they do not have limbs like humanoids. They have taken to using exoskeltal suits they operate, however, giving them a humanoid stature similar to MCU-verse Miek. They come in a variety of sizes ranging from human-sized to as big as a car, depending on age, but the patriarch of a given hive grows to truly enormous size, often as big as a train, and they are stilled dwarfed by the queens of the hive. (These are usually quite insectoid, but plenty have become gynomorph-types, and adopted a broodmother body plan.)
Natives, resembling brightly colored bug plushies, may look harmless, but they are enormously strong and can ram into things with considerable force; one moving in sand is like a drilling machine going full throttle, and they like their frames built for agility and resilience. they’re also notable empaths, able to chem (transmit memories and feelings, biologically) with any known form of life, making them outstanding diplomats. this is a new route for them, as until now they’ve been quite wary of aliens. the example of the noble Sakaarson, however, has made their youngest more optimistic.
The Imperials formerly dominated the planet in a bloody empire similar to the Roman Empire, and are believed to be a offshoot of the turians; the CT-verse is broadly similar to the turians, design-wise, though they lack the hard shell of their kin, instead having skin of varying reds or pinks. They stand roughly fifteen feet tall on average, and boast enormous physical power. they seem stronger the more of them there are, and it is speculated they may have a form of latent psionic ability that ‘pools’ their collective power the more of them there are.
The Shadow People (often simply called the shadows of Sakaar) are, like the Imperials, not native to the planet but are descended from colonists whom were marooned there in ages past. It’s unclear who their ancestors were; some suggest they are remnants of the ancient Quarian people, others think they may be a modified form of Nebulan, and the Shadow People themselves don’t know. They are rightly called giants; standing over 50 feet tall for even the shortest of them, they are imposingly strong and carry ancient lore of magical secrets that allow them to draw on life force and strengthen themselves, growing even bigger and more powerful. Grey-skinned (some tending towards darker shades), they tend to have broad shoulders and elongated necks, and combined with their flat snouts and pitch-black eyes, they have adapted well to the deserts they often commune in.
The Shadows are also the traditional priesthood of Sakaar, worshiping various gods depending on locale; some revere the planet as personified through their gods, while others worship Gojira the god of monsters and torment, and others still. A common thread in a reverence of a prophet-like figure believed to come to Sakaar to revive it’s people, a belief confirmed in the fierce but just ruler of Sakaar, who has claimed the title of Sakaarson as his name; Holku Sakaarson, and to the rest of the multiverse, he is known as Hulk.
Largely indifferent to politics are the Spikes; fungal beings who feed upon cosmic energy, and are content to live in space, monitoring the portals surrounding Sakaar and exploring the multiverse. They are commonly believed to be energy beings, as they process consumed energy into shell-bodies they operate, and in their natural environment, tend to resemble luminous entities. They can feed on living beings, parasitically devouring them and mutating them into mindless monsters, but only do so when their is no alternative and have been driven to madness through sheer hunger.
Finally there are the various robots inhabiting Sakaar. Most are integrated, but the Wildebots bear some discussion. Feral robots who for the most part are profoundly disinterested in organic coexistence, they were intially thought mindless until other robots opened dialogue with them, revealing that they are fully sapient, and content to live as wild animals. They have since agreed to be left alone, though the natives and them still do battle; now, it seems, mostly in fun and out of boredom.
There are other species present in notable communities across Sakaar; isolated pockets of Transformers (mostly beastformers and unique, monstrous changers) are well suited to the environment. Yautja and the horrific xenomorphs also have survived there quite well, and many varieties of dragon have established their homes upon the world. Some species that do well in harsh conditions (Tetramands, vulpimancers, and crystalsapiens, for example) all live here, as do other species that have changed to become strong and survive it.
finally, the Red King, the former ruler of Sakaar, is not quite dead. Reports differ to whether he was killed by wildebots or infested by spikes and burned by his own soldiers, but it appears that he was previously the latest in a long line of kings serving the will of the Ringers, on behalf of Javik and his Prothean Empire. the Sakaarson’s emergence completely threw his plans off track, removed Sakaar as a strategic piece, and is now a completely independent world now ruled by a hero so ferocious and stern that the likes of Grimlock call him a spiritual brother. Accordingly, the Red King desperately wants revenge and to reclaim his kingdoms, though Javik is loathe to allow him to do so, disliking him personally; he would have already killed the Red King as an incompetent bully, but the Red King is the last of his bloodline, and many of Sakaar’s hidden weapon systems and technologies buried beneath its surface (currently obscured from the Sakaarson) are linked to his genetics. He is a necessary burden, for the moment, and is a prime use as a recurring antagonist; he is a tempermental and petulant sort, and is likely to attack heroes for imagined slights or to claim their worlds for his own.

Negotiations in a Fiery Alliance: Ch 7. Don’t feed the Flower Oil
Kahli and Zizi were having a wonderful time exploring the cities greenhouses, massive mansions of glass unlike anything Hryule had. Great mechanical machines working in tangent to help grow nature. "This is beautiful."
Zizi was listening to the plants. It was odd to hear the leaves almost harmonize with the machines, but loved to take note of their whispers. Every plant here was part of a massive interwoven chain almost, every piece of greenery sharing with its neighbor. She ran her hands across a few flower petals, watching how the blooms responded to her touch.
"It is... but I still think our little treehouse beats it, don't you think?" Zizi kissed Kahli's cheek.
"I'd agree. More cozy." Kahli snuggled his nose with hers when he suddenly groaned. He tried his best to keep his wife's attention away, but he knew for a fact that she'd hear the clanks. T0-D was viewing the machinery and the plants, scanning the area for documentation.
Zizi was just about to suggest looking from plants from the Kikai Empire, but nothing could stop the plants from alerting her to the 'walking gears' nearby.
"... are you fucking kidding me?" The Zemlja growled under her breath. "Is he following us?"
Kahli gulped, feeling the rage radiating off his wife. "I do not know..."
T0-D turned to them and waved from afar. "Greetings: Kahli. Wonderful news. The people of Danjur have plants that have been previously thought extinct from the original homeland."
"That's wonderful news." Zizi said through gritted teeth, then tugged on Kahli's arm lightly. "Let's go to a different section."
"I want to see these closer." Kahli went closer to the Android, pulling his wife with him. The plants included some insect eaters, as well as beautiful red spiraled flowers.
"Observation: These red spiraled plants, the Colalilelalo, were symbols of happiness, associated with the Waku tribes."
Kahli was starting to take real interest now. "Really?"
"Statement: When they are about to die, burning them causes the most pleasant smell, according to others."
Kahli asked her to be civil to the robot and she would attempt to do so. Though, that did not mean she had to like him. Zizi personally wanted to bury him so far in the ground, that he could never dig himself out of it. As T0-D explained some of the facts about the native plants of the Kikai Empire, Zizi carefully ran her fingers through the greenery. It was full of life, though she could feel the traces of its true home. The blood red flowers almost looked like fire dancing.
"What are these purple ones?"
"Answer: Those are Aztela. Carnivorous plants that feed both on sunlight, water, and flesh. A personal favourite of mine. They feed mostly on flies and other insects, but they have the biting force of a crocodile. Foolish explorers have lost fingers, and even a hand from sticking them inside the mouths of these joyful little bundles."
Ziz thought the Aztela sounded similar to Ve'nusa, the Jawstalk Mantrap, a carnivorous plant which could swallow a grown man whole. However, the Jawstalk Mantrap was much larger than these flowers and usually burrowed in the ground, laying flat, waiting on their prey to walk over the perfectly laid trap. Ve'nusa also had vines connected to the stalk, instead of just multiple leaves.
"These are beautiful."
"Statement: Yes. They are. It fills my cores with nostalgia to see them again. Oh Zannah will be so happy to know that their are living samples to be transferred and regrown on the new homeland."
Zizi still said nothing and just listened. It would be difficult to keep these plants alive over such a long journey. The transportation would have to be extremely careful. The seeds, however, would be much easier to take back to the Kikai Empire and plant instead of trying to move the entire flower.
"Observation: It's fascinating how the people of Danjur have fused their technology to feed the plants in this greenhouse in a symbiotic relationship. These plants could not live with out them, and the machinery would have no purpose without the plants. All so that beings like you and I can enjoy the smaller lifeforms before us."
The plantations in Hyrule did not require machinery due to the magic of the Zemlja tribe. Windmills were as close as machinery came to grind grain. Still, it got Zizi to thinking... were machines going to replace magic? The thought unnerved her.
"Query: Zizi Slatki. Don't you think it's wonderful that this machinery keeps these little flowers alive?"
"Yes and no." Zizi answered as the robot continued his scanning. "Without the machine, the plants would die and without the plants, the machine would not be needed. Plants have always thrived on their own, without the interference of machines or magic. I use my magic to help the plants grow faster and larger to feed my people, but regardless of my magic, the plants would still survive."
"Statement: And the machinery would be used to power something else. I suppose each could find its life else wear if needed."
"Perhaps, though it feels unusual to me." Zizi was not trying to fight, just speaking how she felt. "Lorleidians do not need machines like this to care for our plants. We have always had magic. Then again, Danjur has some magic, but not much, so there is a need."
"Statement: It would seem that machines hold just as much value as magic when it comes to taking care of fragile life."
"Magic is a living force that flows through everything, a machine..." Zizi trailed off, not liking where this conversation was going. "Can serve a purpose, for sure, yet... you still unnerve me, T0-D. I can't read you. I can't sense any emotion from you."
"Counter: Well you humans are unpredictable as much as you are predictable. That unnerves ME. I express how I feel. And I think, just like you do. I mean, I call you meatbags, but at least you have intelligence that puts you above cattle."
Zizi glared at T0-D for that statement.
"You are a robot, you don't have a soul." The Zemlja was starting to get angry. "You simply follow orders, that's what you were made for, besides making any being you don't care for feel inferior or helpless."
"Zizi..." Kahli warned. T0-D's eye turned red on her.
"Statement: And how do you know YOU have a soul Zizi Slatki?"
"Because I have a conscience, and I don't go around hurting people!" Zizi snapped at T0-D. "You hurt me! You hurt Kahli! You could have hurt my unborn child when you kidnapped me, injecting me with those drugs! You have no sense of morality! You're just a thing!!! Why do you think I don't want you around me? Around my husband or children?! You hurt us once and you probably will do it again if your Empress orders you to do so! So stay the hell away from me and my family!!!"
"Counter: You're own husband was brutally tortured by the man you call a brother in law. Oh I'm sorry, correction. He allowed for his torture by a psychopathic prince. Wither I have a conscience or not is up for debate, I believe I do, but I've never taken the sickening joy in the torture of targets. What I gave you was completely humane, and dear Kahli received a simple punch to the stomach. When I kill, I make it swift, as one would do when putting down a pet. I enjoy following my orders, because I enjoy helping serve my people, but I do not have to enjoy the orders themselves. You are just as much a thing Zizi Slatki. Everything can be classified as a thing. You come into this world, you grow, and than you die. So here you are, holding onto grudges that I honestly cannot calculate why you'd still hold them, wasting the energy and time your organic body has left. Would you preferred I simply snapped Kahli's neck? Broken your bones so you couldn't escape your capture? No? The gods will judge you on your actions, as I sure they will they will when I eventually expire. So save your breath. I will always be a figure in your life, and all your future generations. If you choose to fear me or not, hold onto a grudge, I will not lose any time over it. But by my calculations, those who hold onto hate do rash things. And I'd have no issue terminating you if you made a move on my life. And yes, it is a life. As much as you, these flowers, or the countless meatbags surrounding us."
"At least I have a choice, you just blindly follow your orders without question. You kidnapped Kanisa, and because of your actions, your people suffered in the war. If you chose not to do so, think of all the misery that could have been prevented." Zizi spat back at him. "I know what Ralnor did to Kahli, tried to stop it actually. Just because my sister is married to the king doesn't mean I have to like my brother-in-law or agree with what he did. Personally, I'd like to kick his ass, yet that would only cause more strife. Sometimes, a grudge can give a person lessons; to be wary of those who could potentially stab them in the back. Call me all sorts of names and insult me all you want, the same goes for you. If you ever try to hurt us again, mark my words, I will find a way to dismantle you, spirits so help me. I will get along with your Empress for the sake of the alliance, and nothing more."
Turning on her heel, the Zemlja marched toward the exit. She was not going to deal with this any longer. That thing, that robot, whatever it was, it had no soul, no conscience, and was evil. She knew it, it was in her gut. Zannah craved power and would do anything necessary to get what she wanted. All it would take was one simple order from the Empress and T0-D could hurt her loved ones.
"Statement: I calculate my orders. I follow them out of choice. Every order was for the betterment of my people. We did not lose the war because one little princess was kidnapped. And I'd kidnap you again, without an order, if I felt it was necessary for the betterment of my people."
Kahli finally stepped in. "T0-D. Do not threaten my wife. Zannah will know about this."
"Clarification: I so do wish that you had not married her Kahli. Someone like you would be better at the Emperor's side. By my calculations, the offspring would do wonders physically and politically for the country."
He turned back to Zizi one last time. "Statement: I choose not to beat your ugly meatbag face in out of curtesy. I have been given no specific order that says I can't hurt anyone I like here. Remember that I know where you live Zizi Slatki."
T0-D turned his mechanical clawed feet and stomped away, needing to clear his circuits.
Zizi was going deeper into the greenhouse to where plants were waiting to be installed next to machinery for watering. She used her magic to pull them closer, causing the blooms to burst out of their pots. Swirling the various flora around her, the Zemlja created a hollow sphere and stepped inside of it. She needed to listen to the whispers of the plant. The age old knowledge would soothe her about this situation.
Kahli went back to his wife, finding her in her shelter. "Zizi... please come out."
"You come in. I can protect you in here."
"Zizi... I don't need protection, but I think you feel that you do."
"You do need protection! That thing will hurt you again! I just know it! A punch in the stomach, my ass!" Zizi was close to the verge of tears. "Zarazu told me it nearly killed you!!!"
"That was an exaggeration on her part. T0-D was right in some regards. I suffered much more at the hands of the Gerudo royalty than I ever did at him. A gut punch was nothing. The suffering that happened was my worry for YOUR safety! But Zannah did not hurt you! T0-D did not hurt you! You are a flower, my flower. You're the one who is as fragile as one Zizi. So if anyone should be worried, it should be ME!"
"I don't want them to ever hurt you. I'm terrified that they will!" Her sweet husband called her a fragile flower, though some flowers had thorns. Currently, Zizi was making sure her thorns had more nutrients than her beautiful petals. "Those Hasai hunted you for months! I can see how beaten you were, exhausted and hurt in my greenhouse when we first met. I know what T0-D has done, what Zannah has done and might do in the future. How am I supposed to ever put my trust in someone who's main priority is power? I want to keep you safe, keep you close, I never want to see you hurt again, by their hands or Ralnor's. I already lost so many I carried for on Lorleidi, I can't... I can't lose you too..."
"I'M NOT AN ANIMAL TO BE HUNTED ANYMORE! AND ANYONE WHO WOULD DARE HURT ME OR  YOU WOULD SUFFER MY WRATH!!!" Kahli smashed his hand on her protective dome, flames searing from his nostrils. "Zannah is my FRIEND ZIZI! I suffered for years, until SHE helped me! The Hasai don't hunt me anymore, directly and indirectly because of her! Power is a force I do not condemn, because of the power I hold now is what saves us allows me to protect you! If you see her as a monster for valuing power, than you see me as one as well. Don't. Please."
Zizi released a startled yelp when Kahli smacked his hand upon the sphere.
"... I don't condemn you or Zannah for having power, Kahli." The Zemlja was quiet now, sounding tired. "I've never seen you or her as a monster. I'm simply afraid... of her becoming one."
Kahli gripped his fists, reeling in his emotions. "Than you discredit her by giving into your fears. T0-D was wrong in scaring you. But I, or any other Hasai would have done the same actions her committed. Circumstances are what lead us down the actions we choose. The war, saving the island home. And she has every right to hold power if it means protecting our people. I do the same to protect you, my flower."
"Power to protect is different from power to dominate, Kahli." Zizi slowly stepped out of the sphere, the flowers moving to allow her through to her husband. "Zemljas know if a soul is good or evil, my husband. When I first looked upon you, I saw a soul who was hurting but still had good in him. There was darkness there, but you defeated it. You pushed it back and chose love instead."
"Do you honestly think that Zannah is evil? After all the struggles she went through?"
"No." Zizi shook her head. "Not yet, at least. When I first saw her, I noticed there was darkness there in her soul. Grudges, pain, and despair, but I thought it was just because of the past and what was happening with the Hydra poison." She then took a breath, feeling her skin crawl. "Though each time I saw her afterwards, the darkness has become more apparent. Growing like a weed that chokes other plants to steal resources. It's growing more and more, and when she looked at Annuciata..." The Zemlja bit her lip before saying. "I think Zannah will try to bond with Annuciata. For love, perhaps, but power is the driving force. I believe she intends to make an alliance with Danjur not only for the sake of her kingdom and resources, but... maybe to make Hyrule pay for what they did."
"She wouldn't dare."
Zizi held up her hands to his face.
"Will you let me show you what I saw?"
"I don't know if that would be fair to Zannah..." Kahli was conflicted. He didn't want to be pulled into a conflict of interests. "She can't become the worries you fear, can she?"
"You tell me, my love." Zizi started to lower her hands. "You and Zannah share the same abilities of fire."
"Hyrule is more of threat than she'd ever be."
"For now, maybe. In the future, we cannot be sure."
"Your people have dragons that could annihilate her. Your brother's wife is born from a demon-man. I fear the damage Hyrule can do now over Zannah's own power."
"I understand, Kahli. Though the enemies who lie in the dark and are patient, waiting for the perfect moment to strike are more dangerous than the ones who face you in the light." Zizi's gaze went downcast. "You told me that. I don't want to think Zannah is bad, I don't want to think she has an ulterior motive to hurt anyone. Though I have to be careful, and be cautious. I wasn't before, and that could have ended bloodier than it did."
"Can I tell you something? Malik worries me more than Zannah."
"Heh..." Zizi tried not to laugh, not wanting to seem hysterical. "I'm worried about Malik too. I have no idea what Zarazu was thinking, sending him."
"He's the one who craves power. Did you see how he valued showing off his wife's power? I find it disturbing."
"I honestly just viewed that as a kink of his, but perhaps you have a point." Zizi thought about how Malik used to be Klinge. How if Zarazu was not powerful enough, she was not worthy. She could still hear the sickening smacks of Klinge's punches or kicks hurting her sister. Though Zarazu knocked him down a few pegs, taking his arm. "I trust my sister, Kahli, so I'm sure she has a plan for all of this. Maybe it's to test him. To help him learn to be... human again."
"Hmmm, perhaps...." Kahli opened his arms wide for his wife. "Would you like to go home?"
"That sounds wonderful." Zizi hugged him tightly, breathing in his smell and relaxed. She always felt so safe, so secure in his hold. "... I'm sorry if I upset you, love. I promise it was not my intention."
"I'm sorry that you've been upset. Have you ever thought about open combat against T0-D? It's been a Hasai tradition to duel in order to get over strife and deal with stress concerning another being."
"Open combat?" Zizi nearly cringed at the words. "While I would absolutely love nothing more than to pummel him for what he did, I know better than that." She rubbed her belly and then sighed. "I don't want to risk our baby and I certainly do not want to burn bridges that my sister tried hard to rebuild. Besides, Kahli..." The Zemlja turned a little red in the cheeks. "I'm not the greatest fighter. When we fought against Vul'kar, I was absolutely petrified."
"I suppose that cements it. I'll have to always be by your side to fight for and protect you." He kissed both her cheeks lightly.
"Hey, I can fight, I'm just not good at close combat." Zizi pouted at him for a moment, but smiled at his kisses. "Though I will never object to you always staying by my side."
"I'll never leave." Kahli pressed her back into the pod, kissing and nipping her neck.
"And just what do you think you're doing?" Zizi giggled as her husband maneuvered both of them inside the flora sphere. "You know you're in my domain now, right?" The Zemlja proved her point by having the vines sneak under Kahli's shirt to tug at it as well as his pants.
"I know. I wanted to give you a handicap~" He was already massaging her breasts. "This thing is sound proof, correct?" "Do you want it to be sound proof so I can moan as loud as you want?" Zizi knew how her lover was weak to love bites, so she bit down, hard, on his neck. "And a handicap? Such a gentleman."
Kahli hissed loudly. "Z-zizi."
He was already dropping his pants, and pushed downwards on her chest.
"Yes~~~?" Zizi ran her hands up his chiseled torso and the vines finished pulling off the shirt and Kahli's pants. However, the Zemlja was being very playful today. The flora sneaked up his thighs, running over his skin in feather light touches. "Does my lover want me to tease him?"
"That stings Zizi. I just want to embrace you..."
"I think we both know you want to do a little more than just embrace me." Zizi winked at him before trailing her hands down to his manhood. "Looks like I have a nice treat waiting for me."
Kahli growled, pulling her close. "I want to fuck your troubles away.”
"I don't object to that, just not too rough, love." Zizi kissed him, tugging on his neck to pull him closer. "After all, this is precious cargo in here."
“I promise not to be too hard.” Kahli went pressed his cock to her womanhood, grinding his teeth as he held her close.
Zizi shivered as her husband slipped inside her walls. He was always so warm, so passionate in his love making. How she wished she could hold onto that feeling forever. She held onto his shoulders as Kahli moved, moaning softly. Biting his neck, Zizi wrapped her legs around Kahli.
Kahli groaned loudly as she held onto his body. It was nirvana to him. “Whisper to your desires.”
"I want to make love to you everyday, I want to kiss you everyday, I want to keep you here in my arms and never let you go..." Zizi breathed as she ran her hands down Kahli's back. "I want you to know how much I love you, how thankful I am for you..."
“I love you. You are my passion. You are what sets my mind free.”
"Passion, indeed, love, I believe I can feel you swelling up inside of me." Zizi purred at Kahli, giving his back a light scratch as she nibbled on his throat. "Make me cum."
Kahli took a hand a pressed hard  her left nipple. He made sure to dip her back enough as he fucked her for the blood to go to her head.
"Ooooh-oh!!!!" Zizi moaned aloud as Kahli continued to thrust, digging her nails into his shoulders. The way his touch was fire incarnate made her see stars. Every single nerve was aflame, and responding to his caress. It was not long before the Zemlja came undone, crying out her husband's name.
“You’re so tight when you scream my name. Where do you want my seed?”
"I want you to cum in me, on me, anywhere, I want them to smell you on me."
Kahli never did this before, but pulling out, he cummed all over his lovers face down below.
"Mmm... I daresay you have a kink for marking your territory, Kahli." Zizi's tongue licked the corner of her mouth where a drop of cum hit her face. "Now I'll smell like you all day."
“You look filthy my dear. Rub it in before we leave~”
"And who's fault is that?" Zizi made sure to 'clean up' before exiting the sphere with her husband. "I feel better, Kahli."
“I’m glad.” Kahli held her close, walking away with her as people stared in disbelief at the two coming out of the pod. “You should wear the tribal painting next time.”
"Tribal painting? That's a good idea, love. I'll wear it to a meeting with Annuciata, and then later," Zizi leaned closer to whisper into his ear. "You can 'rub' it off of me."
“I’d like that very, very much.”

Previously: Loki was still sitting in front of you, his arms hovering close to your head.  Except, his skin–his skin was blue.
As soon as he saw your eyes open, he dropped his arms and his skin returned to a normal color.  “We are done.”  He moved to stand.
“Wait!” You grabbed his arm to keep him on the floor with you.  His skin was still cool to the touch, but you held on.  “What the hell was that?  What are you?”
“Explaining my past was never part of our agreement.”  He yanked his arm out of your grasp.  “You have refused to follow my directions.  I will not be helping you.”
“Hold up.  Following your directions was never part of our agreement either.” You glared at him, in spite of your protesting head.  “We made a deal.”
“Very well,” Loki sighed.
Now: Between the meditation Bruce insisted you start practicing and whatever magic Loki was doing to your brain, it took two days before Loki finally deemed your brain relaxed enough to start with the ‘happy place’ shit.  Hell, when you walked out of Loki’s room on that second day, you swore you could almost see the hint of a smile on his face.  Of course, that could have been because he had actually trapped you in upholding your end of the oath.  But, given that his emotions were leaning towards the positive, you chose to accept that you were making progress.
.
“Where are you right now?”  Loki’s voice seeped into your brain.
“The moon.” In your mind, that’s exactly where you were.  Currently, you were sitting on the edge of a crater, your feet dangling, as you looked over the barren landscape.  “No people, no animals--I’m all by myself.”
Forget the mountains.  This was where you needed to live.
But then, you’d be alone.
With nothing but your thoughts.
Forever.
The image around you began to flicker and fade out.  “Fuck.” Your eyes popped open and you gasped for breath.
Loki frowned.  “What was wrong with that one?”
You supposed you could understand his irritation.  First, you’d imagined your cabin in the woods, but then a bear came out of nowhere to eat you.  Then you’d tried the bottom of an ocean, only to be met by a giant jellyfish that had wrapped you up in its stinging tentacles.  And now, the moon was proving to have its own nightmares.
“Aliens?” You tried, weakly, not wanting to reveal what had actually scared you.  Although, there was no point in lying--he was the one person who would know when you were.
For whatever reason, though, he let you play it off.  “You Midgardians consider me to be an alien.”
“Yeah, and that’s pretty terrifying all on its own.”
“We are wasting our time if you cannot imagine your brain as a space.”  He sighed.  “Why don’t we end our session for today?  You can spend the afternoon trying to think of a place where nothing will eat you or sting you or whatever about your planet’s moon was scaring you.”
“Fine.”  Your head wasn’t feeling so groovy, anyway.  Maybe after a nap, you could dink around online to find something that could inspire you as a possible ‘happy place.’
Loki watched you, curious, as you grabbed your tablet from its spot next to you on the floor.  After a few quick taps, you knew exactly what you needed to know.
“Guess I’ll be eating a little later.”
“What does that thing tell you?”
“It lets me know if there’s anyone in a particular room I want to go in.  It’s set up with F.R.I.D.A.Y. and she can help me avoid people when my head starts to hurt.”
“At least one of you in this forsaken place has a sense of self-preservation.”
“Fuck!” Yet another place you tried to invision had been completely ruined by some unforeseen fear.  In your frustration, you took your pillow and chucked it across the room.  “What am I doing wrong?”
Nothing was working.  Not the heat of the desert.  Not a cool, dark cave.  Not a boat abandoned in the middle of the water.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y.?”
“What can I help you with?”
“If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go to get away from people and scary things?”
“I believe the North Pole is the only place completely devoid of humans.”
“That sounds--”
“Of course, there are many carnivorous animals that live and hunt in the region.”
“Thanks, F.R.I.D.A.Y.”
“And with Global Warming, the polar ice caps will soon be melted and succumb to the ocean.”
“Great.  Thanks.”  You flopped back on your mattress.  Just what you needed to have in your brain right now. Polar bears and freezing like Jack in Titanic.
Relief flooded your veins.  Something was going on because this feeling wasn’t coming from you.  It felt like the greatest weight you never carried was suddenly lifted from your shoulders.  God, you could almost believe you could fly.
“What is going on?” You opened your eyes to see Loki staring at you crossly.  You pressed your hands to your head, trying to stop the lightheaded dizziness.
“I believe the mission is complete.  Which would explain the relief you are feeling.”
The room was starting to spin. “Mission?”
“You are aware you are at the Avengers’ compound, are you not?” He scoffed.  “The Avengers seem to have this proclivity towards saving this ridiculous planet, so that is where the Captain, the tin soldier, and the female spy have been for the last week.”
“So, when I got angry--”
““Was when the three of them were first given the assignment.”
“And the fear?”
“That was the day they were supposed to be finished with their mission.  It took longer than originally thought.”
“Oh.  Well, I guess that makes sense.”
“Can we focus now?  The sensations you’re feeling aren’t going to go away with all this frivolous talking.”
“Right.”
“You’re a tough woman to find.”
“Steve.” You forced a smile as you looked up from your tea.  “How can I help you?”
He was not sporting any of the bruising you’d spotted on Natasha when you’d passed her in the hall on your way to get something to drink.  Maybe she’d taken the brunt of the physical abuse?  That didn’t really seem like something he’d do, though.  Bucky had told you how Steve had always been a scrapper, even before he got all buff.
Maybe it was a supersoldier thing?  That’d be cool to be able to heal from everything quickly.  Would that mean you could get over all the headaches and nausea super quick?
“--to Bucky?”
Oh shit.  You should probably pay attention.  “What?”
“Stop.” He sat down across from you.  “Why haven’t you talked to Bucky?”
“Steve--”
“He was healed.  He’d been fine for months.  One conversation with you and he’s doubting everything.”
Anger was bubbling just below his calm demeanor.
“I didn’t--I didn’t mean to do all that.  I promise, it was never my intention to reveal--”
“I get it, I do.  But he needs your help.  He’s been sitting on this for days, questioning if he’s really in control of his mind.  You said you’d meet with him about it.”
“I said I’d try.”
“And have you?  Can you honestly say you’ve tried to talk to him about what’s going on in his head?”
Fuck.  “I don’t know what’s going on in his head.  I can’t get a read on the Winter Soldier.  I just know he’s there.”
“Why can’t you just tell Bucky that, then?  Why hide from him?”
“He’s gonna want me to fix it and there is nothing I can do!”  Your head was pounding and you couldn’t separate Steve’s frustration from your own.  “Do you have any idea what it’s like?  To see people you love in pain and know there’s nothing you can do to help them?”
“That’s called being human, having empathy.”
“No, not like this.  I experience their pain--I live it.  Every bit of it.  I know what it’s like to lose a brother to cancer.  I know what it’s like to have the love of my life sign away twenty years of our life together.  I know what it’s like to bury my child.  I even know all about how it feels to see my best friend on death’s doorstep because he was always so sick growing up.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but you pressed on.
“It’s not just empathy.  It’s that ripping out my hair, clawing at my skin, sobbing until I choke heartbreak that drowns me even though I’ve never had a brother die, been married or a mother.  I’ve been afraid that I’ll have to watch you die even though my only experience with that is thanks to Bucky’s trip down memory lane when I was sick and he had to carry me to the lab.”
You’d worked yourself up only to realize you had nowhere else to go with your speech.  No one ever seemed to really understand the burden you lived with.  Pain that wasn’t your own lived and grew inside you.  Trying to alleviate it was always considered selfish because it was never yours to begin with, just yours to suffer through in silence.
“Look, I can’t say I get what you deal with, because I don’t.  But I think Bucky would.  He’s spent the majority of his life the same as you--having absolutely no control.  He knows what it’s like to have his mind at the mercy of others.  And if you tell him that you can’t fix it, he’s gonna accept that because he knows he can’t fix it either.”
The information you’d read about one James Buchanan Barnes came back to your mind and shame started to trickle in.  The life he’d had--the one that HYDRA stole from him and replaced with the worst possible existence you couldn’t even begin to imagine.
Yes, you had experienced feelings that were never meant to be yours.  You’d never wanted them, but you knew them.  But that was it, wasn’t it?  You knew those feelings.
Bucky had spend most of his life not knowing.  Of having everything ripped from him.  Of not feeling anything.
“Fuck.”
You felt like such a whiny little shit.  Some superhero you were turning out to be--hiding from your problems, refusing to help someone who just wanted to know what was happening in his head.
Steve should have just punched you in the throat when you started whining and complaining about what you went through.
“I’ll talk to him.”
“Promise?”
“I promise, when I can, I will.”

Best Anime Series of All Time
Tumblr media
Anime, which is broadly defined as Japanese animated works, is a diverse medium. There are fast-paced adventure series with cliffhangers at the end of each episode, as well as heartfelt slice-of-life shows. Each episode is usually 20 minutes long, which is shorter than a typical television show but packed with emotion.
While some people associate anime with the shows we watched as children—and then abandoned—there is plenty of series with dark and serious themes aimed at adult audiences. (In fact, many of the choices on this list are probably not appropriate for kids). With that being said, here are the best anime series of all time that are worth watching.
Best Anime Series of All Time
We rounded up the best anime shows available on Netflix USA, ranging from psychological thrillers to coming-of-age dramas, and throwback classics to 2020 standouts. Long-running series with more than 100 episodes (such as One Piece, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, and others) are excluded from this list.
All of these shows have English subtitles, and the majority of them also have English dubbing. Additional languages have been subbed and dubbed for some shows.
1. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (2011)
Following the death of Meiko “Menma” Honma in an accident, a group of six childhood best friends began to drift apart. Years later, Menma’s ghost appears to Jinta Yadomi, who used to be the group’s outgoing leader but has isolated himself since Menma’s death and barely attends school.
Menma begs Jinta to assist her in achieving her wish, which is the only way for her to pass into the afterlife. This request serves as a catalyst for Jinta and his friends to re-connect and, perhaps for the first time, process the pain caused by Menma’s premature departure.
The genius of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day lies in the creation of compelling backstories for each of the main characters and the artful weaving of their past and present. The series also demonstrates how deeply examining old scars can bring healing and freedom.
2. Beastars (2019-present)
Anthropomorphic animals live in a world where, on the surface, there is peace and harmony, but beneath the surface, there is a simmering conflict between carnivores and herbivores.
Every character is assigned stereotypes associated with their species, even if these stereotypes do not prove to be entirely accurate. Legos, the main character, has a quiet demeanor, but as a colossal gray wolf, he is feared and even suspected of murdering an alpaca student in the drama club.
When Legos meets dwarf rabbit Haru and falls in love with her, controlling his carnivorous instincts becomes the most difficult thing he’s ever had to do. Beastars is a tender portrait of attempting to define one’s identity on one’s own terms at its core.
3. Attack on Titan
A 50-meter wall (about 165 feet) protected humanity from humanoid, man-eating giants known as “titans” for a century. Because of the sudden appearance of a gigantic titan, civilization is quickly overrun by enormous monsters that had previously been kept at bay by the wall.
Eren Yeager joins the Scout Regiment, the branch of the military tasked with taking on the titans, after witnessing the death of his mother. Attack on Titan is a fast-paced, action-packed series that never lets you catch your breath.
It’s a story about clinging to one’s desire to live, not just to survive. The Scout Regiment’s cool-headed ace, Captain Levi Ackerman, is also introduced in the show, making him one of the most adored anime characters ever.
4. Death Note (2006-2007)
One of the hot anime guys, Light Yagami sets his sights on becoming a God. The high school student learns that anyone whose name is written in the pages of “Death Note,” a notebook that an actual god of death dropped into the human world, will die. He begins scribbling the names of criminals right away in order to create a utopia free of all evils.
Soon after the mysterious string of deaths began, international law enforcement agencies began to investigate who was responsible. A renowned but anonymous detective goes by the name “L,” and the story progresses as Light and L try to outwit each other at every turn.
At the start of Death Note, the questions of justice and the difference between Light’s actions and those of the criminals he kills are immediately apparent. However, the show’s clever schemes to expose the other’s identity while protecting his own keep viewers hooked beyond the social commentary.
5. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Neon Genesis Evangelion has lasted longer than any other show on this list. Apocalyptic creatures known as “Angels” are wreaking havoc on humanity in 2015 (what was then the near future).
The only weapon that stands a chance is a giant robot called “Evangelions,” which must be activated by a human pilot’s nervous system in order to function. Ikari is just 14 years old when his father summons him to be the pilot of an Evangelion and places the responsibility of saving humanity’s existence on his shoulders.
In Neon Genesis Evangelion, characters of all ages deal with the effects of past tragedies and the prospect of a bleak future. For those forced to serve in combat, this series also examines the long-term effects of the conflict.
6. Your Lie in April (2014-2016)
Piano prodigy Kousei Arima wowed audiences at the age of eight when he performed with an orchestra. Kousei’s mother subjected him to physical and verbal abuse as she trained him to be a world-class musician. After his mother’s death, Kousei decided to give up playing the violin because he couldn’t hear his own music anymore.
However, it is only when Kousei is introduced to the violinist Kaori Miyazono that Kousei begins to play the piano again. Your Lie in April is a work of art, both in terms of design and sound. The colors and patterns in the frames are vibrant, and the classical music we hear is magnificent. It is through music that Kousei discovers a new sense of freedom and joy after confronting the psychological trauma of his past.
Well, these are the current top anime series you can watch right now. We hope you found this guide helpful for your anime. If you want to learn more about anime and gaming, make sure to check out Make Tech Quick. They provide excellent gaming and anime content.

Monster Tactician (Inquisitor Archetype)
Inquisitors are well-known for their tactical behavior, often using allies to help set up for their deadly judgements and divinely-empowered strikes.
However, there are those that choose to do so not merely with mortal allies, but with supernatural allies they summon to their aid. These individuals are blessed with the ability to call the servants of their god and/or faith to their aid in exchange for the various judgement abilities normally associated with the class.
Unlike other summoning mystics, however, these inquisitors have the advantage of tactical control over their summoned minions. Whether this is a telepathic connection between summoner and creature, or the signs of a long-standing relationship between the two, they are adept at fighting alongside such summons.
Like most summoners, these inquisitors have a natural pool with which to summon allies, the quality of said allies increasing with mastery. Furthermore, they also gain the ability to learn to summon other creatures not on the basic list as if they had studied lore to expand their repertoire.
Furthermore, when they summon such allies, these monster tacticians can impart some of their tactical knowledge into all those called by a single summoning, allowing them to work together and with the inquisitor in ways not previously trained for. The more powerful they are, the more such teachings they can impart.
If you enjoy summoning characters, but wish said character could get more in on the action, this archetype is certainly a strong candidate. You’ll want a strong spread of knowledges and teamwork feats, that way you can pick your summons, banes, and the like based on the foe. Also, you could either use the expanded summon list to round out options associated with your deity, or to add some unique abilities to the list.
One of the biggest issues with the expanded summoner list is that new bestiaries and other monster information quickly makes them out of date. As such, there are barely any proteans or inevitables on the list, even though proteans got a major boost from certain APs and Bestiary 6, so be sure to ask your GM to work out guidelines for maybe tinkering with that list further to suit the needs of your inquisitor.
Regardless, these inquisitors can always rely on aid from the servants of their deity, but in many cases, with the exception of monsters specifically gifted at stealth, this makes them less divine detective and more divine SWAT team, but that’s fine, filling a valid niche of concepts.
Favoring beasts of air, specifically those imbued with elemental air, Esher is a consummate inquisitor of the air lord. Together with his aerial bird companions, the sylph hunts not only the wicked that utilize earthen magic, but also blasphemers that turn to evil forces in the air, such as flying demons and devils.
A devotee of the demon queen of carnivorous plants, Olliari has been researching to find a way to summon the favored servants of her goddess, alraune, to her side, hoping to lure the righteous into deadly traps even in regions that cannot support them. She suspects that coercing lore from a wild caller might aid in perfecting the summoning.
Long flaunting local law, the party comes under the scruitiny of an inquisitor of the Grand Judge. Now, they find themselves being ambushed by inevitables, axiomites, and other lawful outsiders, all summoned from the shadows by this inquisitor to gauge their strength, in hopes of learning how best to take them down for good.

Weekly Reviews: Samurai Jack Season 5 Episode 4
Previously on Samurai Jack…
Tumblr media
No, not that!
Tumblr media
*ahem* The Samurai, wounded from battle, hides in a cave where he fights his feverish visions. Through the unexpected kindness of a wild wolf, Jack heals in time while reflecting on his past. He steels himself for battle after accepting what must be done: Jack must live and fight. Eventually, the Daughters of Aku find him, but are slaughtered in an intense battle with the Samurai. Some, including Ashi are thrown off a cliff into the snow below. Fortune does not smile on Jack for long though, as his support gives way, making him fall off the cliff as well.
Tumblr media
We start XCV sometime after Jack fell. The Samurai wakes up, alive and well in spite of his fall. He surveys his surroundings only to find a trail of blood. He finds the final assassin, Ashi, lying on the ground. The crows caw out at him, their cries blending together to form one word: MURDERER. Jack denies the crime, stating that the assassins chose their path. The crows do not respond, but someone else does. It seems Ashi is more durable than her sisters, as she has survived her fall, and now lashes out at Jack with her chain. Jack counters her attacks, eventually wrapping her up with her own weapon and hanging her on a tree. As she sways on the branch, she once more cries out that the Samurai scum will die, and that Aku’s glorious land shall be saved. Jack comments that Ashi is troubled and confused. Neither of them have time to focus on this, however, as an immense creature burrows out from the Earth and swallows the two whole.
Tumblr media
Inside the creature, Ashi giggles in malicious triumph. She proclaims to Aku that the Samurai is dead, like a cultist praying to her God. Jack points out that he is still very much alive, only to be met with more pessimistic rebuttals.
“We’ve been swallowed by this beast. You are dead.”
“As are you,” Jack replies.
Tumblr media
The conversation is cut short as strange creatures made of legs and teeth charge at the two warriors. Jack dodges their attacks until he discovers just how sharp the tendrils on their underbellies are, as one creature slices another apart in the confusion of battle. Using this to his advantage, he claims one of these severed limbs as a makeshift sword, massacring the beasts. Meanwhile, Ashi tries to get the upperhand on Jack, attempting to beat him into submission in spite of her temporary handicap. She fails as Jack inevitably finishes off the monsters at the cost of his new weapon. Rather than leave her to die, Jack uses the chains to strap Ashi to his back, much to her adamant protests, and sets off to find an escape from the intestines of the beast who swallowed them.
Tumblr media
Throughout their journey in the intricate, if not confusing, anatomy of this massive creature, Ashi continuously taunts the Samurai for his persistence, going so far as to prey to the glorious Aku to strike down what she believes to be the defiler of his wondrous land. Eventually, Jack snaps at her, trying to make her see the reality of this world; Aku is undoubtedly the evil one, and would gladly drown this world in chaos.
“Look where you are! Where do you think this monster came from?! ...If you would just open your eyes, you would see the truth.”
Ashi responds with one, cold word: DIE.
Tumblr media
After being forced to defend themselves from more beasts who undoubtedly were swallowed just like the two warriors, Jack trudges on with Ashi, who tries her hardest to find a way to kill her annoying target. Jack could just leave her to be either digested or killed, but he persistently saves her time and time again, much to the disbelief of the now very snarky Inner Jack and other hallucinations. Jack believes Ashi to be misguided, and only requires some form of reasoning to make her see the truth.
Tumblr media
The two warriors reach a dark, cavernous portion of the beast, where strange luminous creatures very similar to sea life glide through the air in their strange ways. Ashi is in awe of the creatures, as Jack states that even amongst all of Aku’s destruction, beauty can still be found. It is then that Jack notices two things: up above is a large, pulsating opening leading to freedom, while down below waits a pit of vile, green acid ready to consume anything that falls into it. The solution seems simple, initially; use the flying creatures to escape and not fall into the acid. But, as we all know by now, nothing in this world is that easy. In the darkness, six green eyes scan the two as they ascend, and a toothy jaw reaches out to snatch them from the air. Jack dodges the hunter, forced to alter his plan and find a new creature to take him through the gap. The hunter pursues them through the darkness, the light from the hole revealing a translucent body with the black skeleton of a massive, carnivorous fish. Jack pilots an assortment of fish before he uses a jellyfish-esque creature to slowly rise to the gap. The creature shivers as the hunter pursues them, causing them to slow down and eventually explodes. In an act of desperation, Jack rides the explosion of his creature, throwing him out through the opening before it closes again. Jack and Ashi have finally escaped.
Tumblr media
The two warriors find themselves in the middle of the ocean, with only a scrap of land to provide them a place to rest. As Jack sits on the shore, Ashi realizes she is no longer chained to Jack. The explosion destroyed the chain, but left the once attached blade in tact. As she silently prepares to finally kill her tired target, something passes by her face. It is a ladybug, flying amongst it’s kind who inhabit the small island. As a look of shock appears on her face, we flashback to Ashi’s training as a child, when the young assassin saw this insect for the first time. Her mother berated her for focusing on the insignificant distractions of the outside world rather than her mission.
Tumblr media
“They are not part of Aku’s order,” she sternly said as she crushed the insect between her fingers.
Tumblr media
As those words echo in Ashi’s mind, the present day ladybug flies to rest on Jack’s outstretched hand. As the Samurai allows the insect to live and fly away, Ashi drops her blade and silently sits down on the center of the island. For the first time in her life, Ashi questions just what Aku’s order truly is.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I absolutely adore this episode. While I was opposed to the idea of Ashi and Jack possibly becoming a team, this episode managed to convince me that the idea would not be a bad one. The chemistry between the anger driven Ashi and the ever resilient Jack was actually kind of fun to watch. Watching Jack try to fight whatever programming Ashi had gone through during her training to convince her that he is the good guy left me rolling, as Ashi just kept trying to find new ways to insult our hero until she finds a legit reason to question herself. Now that the idea of Jack not being a destroyer of innocent life has been planted in Ashi’s mind, perhaps she will eventually accept that what she has been taught was all a lie and will maybe help Jack get back to the past in future episodes.
In the meantime, never stop rambling, TM

Lamb Versus Beef – Paleo Diet Which Meat To Choose
Paleo Diet – Lamb Versus Beef Which Meat To Choose: A healthy soil, and healthy plant, and a healthy animal are all necessary components of a healthy ecosystem, we believe, result in healthier food. All of our lands are organically certified, which means we never use synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
Which Meat to Choose?
We never routinely administer medications to our animals or treat them with hazardous pesticides. The animals are housed in various pastures where they are free to roam and forage for whatever nourishment they require at the moment. There is substantial evidence that grass-fed beef has a more excellent omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio and higher amounts of numerous essential micronutrients than conventional cattle.
Organic, grass-fed red meat in any form is healthful and safe. If forced to select between lamb and beef, however, lamb is the superior choice. Due to rising demand, beef production has become industrialised. As previously said, grass-fed animals generate higher-quality meat. Additionally, lambs require grassland for grazing.
Unlike cattle, large lamb production does not result in high-quality meat. As a result of the more humane way lambs are produced, they are more nutritious and healthier than beef.
Chicken is one of the most often consumed meats in the world of bodybuilding. It is incredibly lean (assuming you use chicken breast) and simple to prepare. Additionally, this meat freezes nicely, so you may prepare it ahead of time if you want to cook your meals fast and conveniently.
Recently, grass-fed beef has grown in popularity, owing mainly to numerous media outlets revealing the atrocities of conventional meat production. In my case, the film Food Inc. and Michael Pollan’s outstanding book “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” sparked my interest in the subject.
When I say “grass-fed beef,” here is a brief explanation: Cattle have adapted to graze grass throughout time. As a result, they obtain all of their nutrition from grass alone.
  Ideas for quick organic dinners
We all have hectic schedules, it can be tempting to order takeout or microwave a prepackaged meal. However, if you want to stay healthy and fit, it is best to cook your meal from scratch. It’s much better if you utilise organic food. Organic foods are not handled with chemicals.
Therefore they are just as God intended. They have more flavour and a greater variety of nutrients. And, with our hectic schedules, we want to stay as healthy as possible. So eating organic, fresh food makes sense on multiple levels. The challenge now is, what can you make that is organic, healthy, and quick to eat?
Cook in Small Batches.
Cooking in batches is one approach to ensure you have food ready to go. So please spend a few hours cooking all of your favourite dishes, portioning them out, and freezing them.
An organic ragu base sauce is a terrific thing to have on hand in the freezer. Follow this basic recipe and adjust the ingredients to your liking.
Two cans of chopped tomatoes (400g) (organic)
Two celery stalks (chopped)
Two peeled and sliced carrots two onions (peeled and finely diced)
100 g brown mushrooms, organic (finely chopped)
One garlic clove, coarsely grated
ONE BAY LEAF
A handful of basil leaves (recommended but not required) or dried basil
1 quart of water
2 tbsp. organic tomato puree
30 mL EVOO EXTRA VIRGIN
A few grains of Himalayan salt and black pepper for seasoning.
250g organic minced beef, lamb, turkey, or Quorn
In a skillet, sauté the celery, mushrooms, carrots, garlic, and onions in olive oil (if using beef, lamb or turkey, add the meat at this stage).
Add the canned tomatoes, herbs, tomato puree, water, and spice when the veggies are tender, and the beef is browned.
If you’re using Quorn mince, you can add it now.
Stir the ingredients together and then slowly boil for around 30 minutes. Make sure to mix it occasionally so that it doesn’t stick.
Before freezing, remove the bay leaf.
This base is suitable for the following dishes:
Bolognaise is best served with organic wholemeal pasta or spaghetti.
Cook organic boiled and mashed potatoes for Cottage Pie (beef) or Shepherd’s Pie (lamb).
Instead of basil, use home-grown mint to make this classic lamb meal stand out.
Alternatively, experiment with mashed organic potatoes, sweet potatoes, and rutabagas.
Serve with cooked organic brown rice and a tin of organic kidney beans and chilli powder for a great chilli con Carne.
The ultimate fast food is organic free-range eggs.
And who doesn’t enjoy a good frittata? You can use up food sitting in the back of the fridge and make dinner tonight.
Ten eggs
The onion (chopped)
Two garlic cloves smashed
Grass-fed butter (25 g)
200 g organic cooked vegetables Broccoli, wilted spinach or kale, peppers, mushrooms, or asparagus are all excellent choices (or anything else you fancy).
50 g grated cheese of choice – cheddar, feta, or goat’s cheese work well.
Black pepper and Himalayan salt
Extras to give your frittata a bit more zing – chopped herbs such as basil, thyme or chives or how about a sprinkle of chilli powder or cayenne pepper.
1. if not already cooked, lightly steam or fry the vegetable(s) (in extra virgin olive oil). 2. Thoroughly drain all vegetables, especially spinach and green cabbage. 3. Cook onion and garlic in the butter until they are tender. 4. in a bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the spices, cheese and any extra herbs or seasoning if necessary. 5. Add the cooked vegetables to the onions. 6. 6. pour the egg mixture into the pan and stir to ensure everything is mixed through. Cook for about five minutes so the bottom and sides are cooked. 7. Then place under the preheated grill for a further 5 minutes to cook the top. 8. Remove and cut into portions. Serve hot or cold with salad or on their own.
So there you have it. A few organic, quick dinner ideas that can be adapted in different ways. Enjoy
Breakfast On The Paleo Diet
Does the prospect of breakfast, lunch, and supper consisting entirely of steak make your mouth water? Alternatively, does your stomach churn? Given that many of my colleagues and members of the Paleo-Keto community are experimenting with and promoting the meatless carnivore diet, I felt forced to research the benefits and hazards linked with it.
While I attempt to provide an unbiased assessment of paleo diet fads by informing you of their benefits and drawbacks, I will share my view.
Sustainable Weight Loss On A Paleo Diet
You’re going to be surprised at where pork ends up on this list! I say, shocked!
We’ve previously discussed individuals who are persuaded that eating only meat is the way to go. “Carnivore dieters swear by a laundry list of benefits associated with an all-meat diet, the most significant of which is that it results in immediate and consistent weight loss,” my colleague Eddie Kim writes. But, not unexpectedly, her views contradict those of Dana Hunnes, senior nutritionist at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, about the nutritional benefit of a meat-only diet. “Let me begin by stating that a plant-based paleo diet is the healthiest option available,” Hunnes says.
While the carnivore diet is popular, it is a very restrictive diet with little scientific support. While it may produce immediate outcomes such as weight loss, many people will likely struggle to maintain it over the long run. In addition, exclusion of entire food groups from a carnivore’s diet may result in malnutrition. Individuals interested in attempting a high-protein paleo diet should examine the palaeolithic or ketogenic diets instead.
The most significant benefits were: no stomach issues or inflammation, improved constant energy (it took roughly seven months after the switch), no-carb or food cravings, no constipation, regular appetite and satiety, no inflammation, and finally, fat reduction. I began the carnivore diet to improve my health, not of losing fat or weight.
This is the message I preach to my clients: Prioritize your health and restoration; everything else will fall into place. The issue with yo-yo dieting is that you are pursuing unattainable objectives and expectations while adhering to an unsustainable diet or exercise regimen.
I was very interested when I first heard about this diet. It flies in the face of everything we’ve ever learned about food. Consuming nothing but meat?! It seems insane, but it’s also quite intriguing. It appears that folks who first try Paleo or Keto end up trying Carnivore for various reasons. For example, many believe that when they consume meat solely, they get miraculous remission from autoimmune disorders and other health problems and weight loss.
Lamb vs. Beef: Difference in Nutritional Value, Health Benefits, and Taste
This article compares lamb to mutton, taking into account characteristics like taste, cooking time, and health. Giriraj Singh argues that beef vs mutton is analogous to sister vs wife… India. Today, I’ll demonstrate how to tell the difference between real and imitation mutton.
Lamb tends to be leaner as lamb is mostly pure grass-fed, unlike beef which is more commonly fattened. History says that after the Norman invasion of England, English words for prepared foods took on their French equivalents. Although mutton is often considered old-fashioned, it has recently seen a massive upsurge in popularity.
What Is the Paleo Diet? A Beginner’s Guide to This Popular Diet
Increased red meat consumption has been linked to a variety of health concerns, including type 2 diabetes. According to research, food processing is a significant component in increasing the risk. Red meat in its purest form is an excellent source of protein and B vitamins and Increased red meat consumption has been linked to a variety of health concerns, including type 2 diabetes. According to research, food processing is a significant component in increasing the risk.
Red meat in its purest form is an excellent source of protein and B vitamins and has been an important component of the human diet. Red meat is typically derived from farm-raised mammals. Such as Red meat is a popular dietary choice for followers of the Paleo diet, which bases food choices on what our forefathers and mothers would have had available to them.
Lamb vs. Beef: Nutrition Facts
When animals are free to move and consume the nourishment they require, a superior product is developed. Numerous clients remarked on our beef’s delectable flavour, which is significantly more aromatic than standard feedlot beef. Our lamb is mild in flavour and delectable, owing to its growth and the Katahdin breed.
Our pork originates from traditional breeds that are renowned for their flavour. We cultivate standard breeds of fowl, but the ability to obtain half of their food from various pasture and move significantly improves their taste.
Lamb and beef are two different and frequently available cuts of red meat that are high in nutrients. Beef is a readily available red meat that is widely consumed, particularly in the United States. Lamb, on the other hand, is a staple of Mediterranean cuisine. We shall compare the nutritional worth, health benefits, and flavour of lamb versus beef in this post.
Grass-fed and pasture-raised beef and lamb – of which we are particularly fond of New Zealand’s – are not only delectable but also nutritionally dense. Packed with whole proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, pasture-raised beef and lamb provide unmatched nutritional benefits for a better life.
When you purchase our grass-fed beef, lamb, and other meats, you are purchasing the same meals that our forefathers and mothers ate and that our children deserve. Grass-fed meals are higher in nutrients (omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acids, beta-carotene, vitamins A and B, calcium, magnesium, and potassium) than factory-farmed beef and lamb. Additionally, they are lower in saturated fat and omega-6 fatty acids.
The nutrients in our beef come from the sun, grasses, and soil on our property, not from the grain truck. Grass-fed goods are free of herbicide residues such as Roundup, making them a far cleaner and healthier alternative to grain-fed beef.
Is Lamb Healthier Than Beef?
A fun fact about lamb is that it is more nutritious than pork or beef. It contains a plethora of benefits that can assist and perhaps astonish you. Given that consuming excessive amounts of pork and beef can frequently result in health concerns, and I would suggest is that you explore lamb as a healthier alternative. Continue reading: What flavour do lentils have? What should I anticipate?
Another element that contributes to lamb being healthier than beef is the meat’s quality. Lamb is predominantly grass-fed, whereas processed beef is derived from grain-fed cattle. Now that animals cannot digest whole grains completely, our bodies are unable to digest such meat.
Due to the presence of ruminants in lamb flesh, it is easily digested. Due to the significant fat content of red meat, it is not considered lean meat. However, the fat content of various cuts of meat differs.
Not only do New Zealand grass-fed beef and lamb have a taste of nature, with subtle overtones of the verdant pastures where the meat was reared, but they also have unmatched nutritional benefits. Grass-fed red meat has more vitamin A and E and has a healthier fat profile.
In addition, it contains less total fat, more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and a healthier ratio than grain-fed beef. Packed with complete protein, bioavailable iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, as well as bioactive creatine, carnitine, and carnosine, and antioxidants, there is no doubt that New Zealand grass-fed beef and lamb are nature’s powerhouse.
Generally, the following meals are on a carnivore’s* menu: Meat includes beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, and pork. Salmon, mackerel, sardines, and herring. Oysters, scallops, clams, prawns, crabs, and lobsters are all examples of shellfish. Additional animal products include eggs, fat, bone marrow, and bone broth. Offal, liver, kidney, and heart are all organ meats—unflavored, carbonated, or non-carbonated water. Whenever feasible, consume only pasture-raised or wild-caught animal products for a healthier version of the carnivore diet.

Lamb vs. Beef: Difference in Taste
Are you sick of the flavour of ground beef? Or maybe of chicken mince? May we introduce you to lamb mince? You may recognise this protein, famous throughout the Mediterranean, from one of the numerous Greek, Turkish, or Moroccan cuisines that incorporate it. While it may not be as standard on your dinner table as chicken, there is a reason for its international popularity.
Grass-fed beef and steak have a distinct flavour compared to grain-fed beef and steak. Chefs frequently assert that the fat is what gives meat its flavour. Due to the difference in diet between grass-fed and grain-fed cattle, each type of meat has a specific vitamin and lipid profile, imparting a distinct flavour. Many Americans are accustomed to grain-fed beef.
However, there have been arguments over which type of meat tastes the best. According to some restaurateurs, pasture-raised beef is dry or rough, while others believe it has a “meatier” and “earthier” flavour.
White meat and red meat are the two primary types of meat. What constitutes a distinction between the two? Generally, meats classified as “red meat” are red before and occasionally after cooking. For example, beef, lamb, and venison are all red because they contain myoglobin protein. This is an iron-containing protein that contributes to the red colour of certain meats.
Lamb is becoming more popular as a regular part of people’s diets, as the taste is enjoyable and gives a variation from chicken and beef. However, portion control is critical when it comes to lamb, as it is one of the fattier cuts of red meat.
If you eat a large amount of it, you increase your risk of developing a range of various diseases, not to mention the likelihood of gaining body fat.
Is Lamb Fattier Than Beef?
Lamb and beef contain a high concentration of saturated fats and cholesterol. However, is lamb fattier meat than beef? Indeed, it is. Lamb is slightly fattier than beef. However, the fat found in lamb meat is beneficial to one’s health. Lambs are high in omega-3 fats due to their grass-fed diet. The ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is particularly remarkable and beneficial to cardiovascular health.
Which is the superior meat, bison or beef? How about bison or lamb?
Is bison, chicken, or beef a healthier protein source if you’re seeking a nutrient-dense source of protein? Bison contains one of the most extraordinary levels of protein of any meat. As with beef, chicken, or turkey, the exact amount of nutrients found in bison varies depending on the cut of bison meat purchased.
All leaner cuts of meat, such as Top Sirloin and the equivalent of London Broil, are fewer in calories and fat than other cuts of meat with higher fat content.
So I set out to compare grain-fed American lamb, New Zealand lamb, and grass-fed American lamb. American lamb used to be significantly more expensive than New Zealand lamb, but I’ve seen that American prices are now comparable to or cheaper than New Zealand pricing.
Meat Quality: Another Reason Lamb Is Better Than Beef
In conclusion, lamb appears to be a superior choice for red meat when compared to beef. Grass-fed lamb and beef provide a plethora of health advantages. However, grass-fed beef is more challenging to come by than grass-fed lamb.
While lamb has slightly more calories than beef, it is more flavorful and provides high-quality protein. Regardless matter whether you choose lamb or beef, red meat should not be consumed daily. If you must have red meat daily, be mindful of your amounts and the cuts of meat you consume, particularly beef.
Red and processed meats are frequently associated with higher inflammatory markers, according to the majority of research. However, these studies frequently make no distinction between beef, hog, lamb, and other red meats; also, processed meat is consistently worse than fresh meat. Furthermore, the studies make no distinction between the meat’s quality or preparation (e.g. grilled vs non-grilled).
Many consider a lean cut of lamb to be one of the healthiest types of red meat you can eat. Lamb is a good source of all essential amino acids and protein of excellent quality. Mutton is comparable to lamb, except that it is the meat of an adult sheep. Lamb is a healthy meat option in part because it is typically grown naturally. Sheep gain weight through grass consumption and are customarily fed a natural, healthy diet.
