Happiest birthday to you, Styx! 🥳
My gift to you is a headcanon request:
Krok + any two Scavengers of your choice celebrating a Cybertronian reader’s birthday :)
Thank you! :) While I did go ahead and do the request, I ended up doing differently than how I normally do it because I just thought it would fit better.
The word isn’t coming to me right now, but I dunno if it’s really a drabble or something else. Either way, I didn’t do the typical way I write the requests this time.
~Cybertronian Reader Celebrating Their Birthday With The Scavengers~
Cybertronians celebrating the day they were made (cold), wasn’t entirely common—nor was it uncommon. A part of you had always wanted to do it before—but you usually got caught up in other things.
Like the war.
You just wanted it to be simple, nothing too big. So, after tracking down the others (it wasn’t hard, they were all watching tv together), you suggested the idea of it.
You were all going to stop on a planet in a couple of minutes for trading or whatever—and you were certain that there had to be at least a bar there or something that you all could go to.
Although you were asking them all, you glanced towards Krok while suggesting it, waiting to see what the monoformer would say about it.
“Sure,” He nodded, before taking a sip of his drink—which thankfully, Misfire hadn’t managed to steal this time.
~~~
After landing, and first dealing with a few other things, it hadn’t taken that long for you all to find a decent bar.
You’d remained inside with them for a while, but eventually, so many others began piling in—it was starting to get a little cramped—so you decided to step outside for a second.
After about six minutes, and a few—about seven—leaving, you decided to re-enter the bar, and rejoin your friends.
The moment you stepped back inside, you were nearly hit with two mechs that had been sent backwards—if not for someone pulling you away, they would’ve landed on top of you.
Looking away from the two random Cybertronians, you looked to your side, and realized that it had been Fulcrum that had pulled you out of the way.
“We gotta go,” He told you, and you nodded. You followed after him and Misfire, noticing the others waiting up ahead after you three went out another exit.
“What happened??” You heard yourself ask, all while you and the rest of the group were running back towards the WAP.
“Well-“ You heard Misfire say from above you—and while you did still listen to him (he mentioned Spinister’s name in his ramble), you became more focused on a familiar clicking noise.
Turning to your left, you noticed the Monoformer, clicking away with that object tightly in his fist. “Sorry about this-“
You just smiled, glancing back behind you, before back towards him and the others. “It’s okay, Krok- really,” You assured him, laughing—although it was a mix of an anxious yet happy one.
With how events usually turned out for you all, you hadn’t been all that surprised that this would happen. It made for an interesting birthday celebration.
Although, you were far more glad that you were simply celebrating it with your fellow Scavengers—they were fun to hang out with in their own ways.
To be fair CF is just as much about found family than VW
Hi anon! I'm gonna link the post I talked about the Golden Deer here for clarity's sake lol.
I think when discussing themes of found family in different three houses routes, it's important to talk about Byleth. In a game where the single, main variable between possible futures is Byleth's interference, it means the story has to be written in a particular way--I mentioned this before when talking about character supports and endings; each character needs to be able to have a romantic ending with Byleth, which affects how their supports are written. In the case of the Lord's, this means you're given tangible reasons why you should've chosen them.
I mean. Let's be real here. Claude has the highest survivability rate of any character in the base game. He can't die if you're completing Verdant Wind (for obvious reasons), or Blue Lions. He's heavily implied to live to see another day in Silver Snow, and you can spare him in Crimson Flower! Edelgard and Dimitri die without the professor's stabilizing influence--but Claude? What does he lose without the professor.
That's sort of how I determine subtler themes of each route in a way--by comparing what you get with and without Byleth.
So when I argue that Verdant Wind is the most about found family, I mean it thematically; the other routes don't have tangible less found family, but without Byleth members of the Golden Deer just blatantly disappear unrecruited post time skip in several routes!
Without Byleth, the option for found family is removed for Claude in a big way, I personally feel, and not just by full recruitment runs lol. Not completely, of course--even in Crimson Flower a recruited Lorenz laments having to face off against Claude and Hilda is willing to die in defense of him and the city--but enough that it was blatantly shocking to me that if you don't recruit Marianne, she does not appear at all post time skip, no exceptions.
In a narrative sense, perhaps slightly unshocking; but in a practical sense? This leaves Claude without a healer.
Claude can't hold onto all his Deer even if you don't recruit any of them in the Academy phase. Silver Snow, Azure Moon, Crimson Flower--Marianne will always be gone; consistent, non variable. Depending on the route other characters like Lorenz might disappear as well.
The themes of found family are prevalent in all the routes, but since each route is pretty much defined by the Lord who leads it, I feel as though their personal relationship with the found family is most defining, if that makes sense.
People stand by Edelgard, Dimitri, and even Rhea for better, or for worse. Even recruited, characters like Felix make it abundantly clear that switching sides doesn't change the immense emotional attachment they have to their original lord.
This just. Isn't true for Claude.
Without Byleth, he doesn't get to keep everyone together. Without Byleth Hilda is recruitable in two routes. The idea that you could ever do the same with Hubert or Dedue is blatantly laughable.
Byleth's presence is what enables Edelgard, Dimitri, and Rhea to remain the most of themselves, if that makes sense. Edelgard's war strategy in Crimson Flower is a lot less aggressive and scorched earth then it is in the other two routes because she's had the professor as an emotional rock. Similarly for Dimitri, he's able to recover because Byleth is there to keep him alive and safe. And then Rhea will blatantly die in the Verdant Wind route where she doesn't in Silver Snow. Byleth, in every sense of the word, keeps these three characters alive and well.
But without her? They still inspire loyalty and devotion--unquestionable, again, if no recruitment takes place. Dimitri, Edelgard, and Rhea can all face up against you as enemies with the full force of their houses/allies (save for, oddly, Annette).
Claude does not.
Claude's whole route is about learning to trust others in a way that allows them to trust him. The Deer are devoted to Claude in Verdant Wind in a way they just, textually aren't otherwise, and that's due to Byleth's influence, both as a Professor to these individual students, and to Claude.
When I say that Verdant Wind is the most found family thematically to me, I mean it at a very base level. Claude knows he doesn't have what Dimitri and Edelgard seem to take for granted. It seems almost effortless, in Verdant Wind, the loyalty and devotion he inspires in his friends despite how often you, as Byleth, are told that Claude appears to be an untrustworthy and sneaky individual.
But it's easy to see in routes where you don't chose him that without Byleth, that image mantains. Claude is an outsider. And maybe he doesn't need Byleth in the way the other lords do to survive or achieve his dream (after all, there's nothing saying he can't open diplomacy with his former classmates after he goes back to Almyra so long as he lives to do so), but just as Byleth is uniquely able to be a peer to the Golden Deer, so can Claude uniquely trust and gain the trust of his house in full.
It's not as dramatic as the other two houses, and I think it's the point. Edelgard and Dimitri have already built a solid foundation of devotion and loyalty. Ferdinand and Felix (your "rival" characters in those houses) are loyal without Byleth, even if Ferdinand claims it's to guide her or if Felix complains every step of the way. Lorenz isn't. In Verdant Wind, you sort of take it for granted that everyone will be there at the reunion if they survived the Academy phase. Of course they will--they promised, didn't they?
But outside Verdant Wind, it's clear to see that you as the player took it for granted. And that's why I think Verdant Wind is thematically the most found family. It's not because the other routes don't love each other as much or aren't as complex or there isn't devotion. It's because fundamentally Verdant Wind is about Claude, for the first time in his life, having a group of people he can rely on and who will rely on him without hesitation. It's about the formation of found family, and how Claude doesn't need it to achieve his dreams, but man, does it give him something to achieve those dreams for.
Fulcrum au Ingo doing a sparking contest with lord electrode, melli is stuck as the "definitely not biased" judge
(by sparking contest I mean who can make better electric shocks) idk just popped into my brain
advantages ingo has:
- technically a deity
- blue lightning is objectively cooler in every way
disadvantages:
- severely nerfed by being stuck half human
advantages lord electrode has:
- blessed by arceus
- orb
- melli loves him
- probably a higher level than ingo's capable of tbh
disadvantages:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- orb
Fulcrum Fic?
YaY!!! I love this fic, I swear I'm gonna finish it and post it soon bc it's so tasty
I felt like having Ahsoka, Kallus, and Cassian hanging out together for fun even tho canonically they couldn't do that, because they deserve to have a good time, so I did! there's some nostalgia but it's not super angsty, and Ahsoka realizes that even though she lost one family she's found another one with the other Fulcrum agents
here's a piece of it that I really like:
for you, mysterious anon, I shall give you - ✨the Fulcrum!Cal AU✨
. . . which is exactly what it sounds like. An AU where Cal is Fulcrum XD
this one is so great for multiple reasons but mainly because it comes with the shenanigans of Kanan and Cal technically knowing each other for an entire rebels season but not actually knowing it's them. Kanan who tells Hera not to tell him anything about Fulcrum or the rebellion but then goes "oh let me tell you about the time my best friend and I pulled a prank on Yoda and got away with it" vs. Cal who hears all about this Kanan guy from Hera before probably turning around and doing the same thing to Merrin like "man I miss my best friend from the Temple. I really hope he made it, y'know?"
they don't figure it out until the rebels S1 finale along with everyone else. So there's no intrigue and mystery with the Fulcrum reveal because Cal climbs down the ladder and he and Kanan are like
". . . Cal??"
"wh - Caleb??"
"YOU'RE FULCRUM???"
"YOU'RE KANAN???"
cue a lot of yelling and a very happy reunion (and the Mantis crew sticking around for the rest of Rebels because yes)
"Fulcrum. He was the first person I killed. A K-Class who was going to level Starsreach. I shot him. landed a round in his left eye from across the room. I still remember the yelling. The trembling in my hands as his fingers twitched a bit more before his spark faded. After that there was Darklight. and Umbra. and Biteback. Three of the guncons. they were part of a group that breached into the Grand Imperium to kill Orion Pax. I was acting as security. Two shots. the first passed through Biteback's neck, and into Umbra's forehead. The second i put directly into Darklight's chest, caused a Zero-point. he ended up dying a month later in an Autobot Infirmary. Then Blackwall, and then Killswitch, Retrofit, Malignus, Transit, Arm-Or, Trannis, Legonis, I can keep going if you want- I remember their names.
Can name the ships I took out of the sky too- The Rash Action, The Fatal Consequence, The Semper Tyrannis, The Torment, and The Doomsday I took down during The Rorsha Campaign. Back to back. One hundred and thirteen crew members died total, half as many made it out. Names, Ships, Manifests, Operations. I remember what I did. I remember who I did it to, and why I joined the Autobots. Every time I look at my reflection, I remember my sins, and I ignore them, I REPRESS them. I have to- Prime. I have to because if I don't- If I let myself think about it too long, I'll fall apart. I'm a good shot. Too good. People died by my hands, more than by yours, more than by Cliff's, or by Sideswipe's, maybe even more than most Decepticons. Ive killed Hundreds, maybe thousands of people. I've done it, because they shot first, and have kept shooting, and the worst part? The thing that makes my spark freeze up? You all stand around like I'm not some killing machine, I talk to try to drown out my own doubts, and to repress my thoughts, and to- to-
To just IGNORE introspection, and to avoid people looking at me, and examining the things I've done, and the people I've hurt, and- and its just- Primus- it works, its drowns it all out- Primus it works. Then it gets late- gets dark, maybe I'm on patrol, maybe not- It gets dark, and late, and the sun sets, and I- I'm not a religious woman- never have been- but I pray."
"I pray that I can make it to the sunrise in one piece."
Dear Vector Prime, what was Fulcrum's life like before the war?
Dear Fulcrum Finder,
Given that Fulcrum was Forged during the war, I can only assume the Scavengers have had another one of their time traveling adventures and have made another mess.
Thank you for pointing this out. I'll go clean it up.
Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! What is archaeology like in your world?
Happy WBW, Charlie! Thank you for the question💜
In the Sunblessed Realm, where most of my WIPs are set, archaeology is non-existent. A quirk of the setting is that people live for as long as they have the will to live. Among other things, it leads to history not being that well preserved, because there are still people who remember the events first hand and the society doesn't feel the need to do that. It will change once the handful of people who lived at the time around the beginning of written history pass away - and so in The Truth Teller, we're following a historian helping out her friend at the Dept. of Archaeology and Anthropology. I'm having a lot of fun with the two of them drawing entirely wrong conclusions, because the truth is hard to believe :D
And in The Fulcrum, with the alien planet populated by birdfolk, there had been another sentient species that lived there previously, and left monumental buildings for the birdfolk to find. While this story is set before the invention of scientific method and archaeology as a field of study (it's sort of late-Bronze/early-Iron Age, depending where you go), any artefacts of the Ancients have religious significance and any surviving buildings are holy sites.
does anyone care enough to give me a summary and/or screenshots of each of the scavengers and their personalities? so far i find them fun but they appear so rarely in mtmte that i've only seen them like twice so far?? (i haven't read all the way through yet)
i want to write them, and i want them to be at least somewhat in character, so info would be appreciated
although they are my priority right now, any underappreciated/rarer characters or just your blorbo if you want to talk about them would be great also! please talk to me about cool tfs, preferably with screenshots, quotes, and/or summaries of their personalities.
tl;dr: please tell me about your blorbos/whatever, this started off with the scavengers but please talk about anyone. i would like a summary of their personality.
Ok let's try this again
What are your thoughts/Headcannons on how the Scavengers would take finding a human astronaut/space explorer who's just been turned into a mostly cybertronian techno-organic by accidentally trigging some abandoned Tarantulas or Scorpnock maguffin in a lab they were exploring? Poor human's having a day. They accidentally triggered somthing, now they're in a body that's too big and very confusing, and they notice Deceptacons showed up as they begin to get their bearings. The Scavengers just showed up hoping for some energon and suplies they could acquire but walk in to see this chaos.
Thanks!
(IDW1MTMTE) The Scavengers with a Human (originally) space explorer who accidentally gets turned into a Cybertronian:
{You, frankly, didn’t understand how or why this was happening. You were just checking out some rooms to the old lab, when you tripped over something—accidentally activating it, causing it to blast you.}
{The Scavengers also didn’t entirely know what was happening. Krok was leading the group (minus Crankcase, who stayed on the ship) through the lab in search of... anything, really, when he entered the room that you were in.}
{The group enters right as the device finally stops blasting you. Krok immediately gets in front of the others, not wanting to risk it hitting any of them- but to his relief, it doesn’t do anything else.}
{They all see you- a Cybertronian- collapsed. You seem unconscious. Krok doesn’t know what that did to you, none of them do. They don’t know that you were originally a human mere seconds ago.}
{After a group discussion on what to even do with you (including wondering if they should go ahead and take your parts), Spinister checks you over, seeing that you’re alive. Krok decides to take you back with them.}
{When you eventually wake up, you’re given two- or really three- surprises. One: you’re bigger... you’re not human. Two: Decepticons are surrounding you. Three: Misfire is right in your face, already asking questions, while Fulcrum tries to pull him away.}
{Krok tries to introduce himself and the others to you, but you’re still rather panicked- about them, and not being human... which confuses the group, especially Spinister. Fulcrum is already gagging at the thought.}
{You end up deciding to stay with the Scavengers, mainly because you just aren’t sure what to do. You hang out with Misfire, Fulcrum, Spinister, and Krok the most- but Cranks & Grim, too, of course.}
{None of them still really believe what you told them earlier- they either just think that you were lying, joking, or you just aren’t thinking that straight, until...}
{Spinister had noticed, while occasionally checking you over, how different your body was. And then one fateful day, you end up... changing. You literally change from your current Cybertronian self, back to your human self. Cue Fulcrum gagging, and the others being surprised.}
{Unfortunately, it doesn’t last that long- you quickly go back to your Cybertronian self. Although, you’re still able to do it- just not for long. It’s kind of like shapeshifting or something, but not really.}
{After another little group discussion- with you included in it- Krok tells you that they’ll try to help you fix this (although none of them know how they’re going to do this- they don’t have what caused this).}
In the fulcrum au, are their human form a recent thing, is this the first time they've taken on a human form, or could you find Emmet and Ingo in history books if you look far enough? You said their human forms have human weaknesses, but do they age? Can they get a new human form if the old one dies? If they could always go into a human form, did the original dragon have one too? Could they alter the way their human form looks, and if so are their appearances based on the twin heroes?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really invested this au, especially the lore behind it.
their human forms are 100 percent human, which means they do indeed age and their human forms will one day die. The only not-human thing is that they weren't "born". though they WERE infants at some point hdkshdkshdjfj,, and yes, they can get a new human form when their current one dies. (and so no, you won't find ingo and emmet in history books, outside of ingo's little stint in hisui)
Since taking on a human form is an ability most legendaries have, the original dragon definitely did have the potential to do so.
as for how their human form looks; they created their human form, so to speak, so they did. choose? I guess? their genetics? but outside of the abilities normal humans have they cannot change their appearance.
again, their human forms are 100 percent human and function just like any other normal human's would
as for if they look like the twin heroes. who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Draco repressing his feelings for Hermione is very in line with his Slytherin orientation. I think deep within he recognises that any romantic attachment to her would open a whopper can of pureblood worms…his conversation with Daphne in the garden highlighted how betrothals and mariages are on the horizon, then there’s the incipient pureblood fascism at the ministry which Draco’s also aware of. I just really appreciate how his obstinate denial of feelings may be an elaborate survival mechanism. He calls it a dark monstrous hunger because it has the potential to eat away everything he’s been raised to hold dear
Totally! As you get older, your choices become more permanent and meaningful, and Year 4 is in many ways a book about irreversible choices — which side you pick when the chips are down. Like you pointed out, part of that is the marriage/betrothal through line, because it's a sign that a lot of these Yule-Ball type courtship games are actually warmups for entry into a much more serious and weighted landscape of social allegiances. And that's tied to the Ministry subplot, too, because these families sustain their power and influence through personal connections; Theo's proposal is significant because it throws away an option for a more strategic alliance later (which Daphne very well knows) and it could potentially terminate the Nott bloodline, e.g. dynastic suicide, Game Over.
And Draco's incipiently aware of all of that! He knows how this world works (see: his conversation with Pansy in Year 2, at the Samhain bonfire). And it unnerves him to realize he'll soon be expected to make these kinds of calls — triggering acknowledgement of feelings he's been sitting on for a long time (because as long as he doesn't say them, he can pretend they're not there), because it's becoming necessary for him to think realistically about what his future is actually going to look like. It's one thing to be off the beaten path, and it's another thing to know you're lost, and it's yet a third, more difficult thing to accept that you're lost, and try to find your way. If he accepts that he's not going back, then he's stuck on the outside.
2, 18, and 21 for the end of year asks?
2. Album of the year?
Haha, probably the Ladybug movie album...at least, it's the only album I can think of cause otherwise I tended to just listen to songs from various albums
18. A memorable meal this year?
I can't think of a lot tbh, the one that I randomly thought of was Chick-fil-A driving to Colorado Springs. It was just fun despite me having a small migraine (also the first time I had a gluten free bun at Chick-fil-a haha)
21. What’s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year?
Well, my sister moved into a different room, we got new carpet, and I got new flooring in my room. And I also have a new bed frame and a drafting desk...a lot of things changed upstairs haha
