At this point, gender nonconformity is about what the person says their experience is.

If a woman with a beard or a man with lipstick and a mustache says they're gender nonconforming, then they are! If a woman with short hair or a man with long hair says they aren't, they aren't! And that's not even getting into the awesome nonbinary, abinary, genderqueer, intersex, and general genderfuckery that may both be and not be conforming.

So much of what is even considered gender conforming or gender nonconforming is based on a world of exclusion. When we start defining one's conformity with whether they fit into white cishetero perisex standards or not, we play into the idea that there's only a very narrow window of what is considered worthy of time and thought.

hello!! so sorry for the long wait for this, i overestimated how much brain energy i would have while traveling for work, haha.

breakfast!! food!!!

i do headcanon harry's relationship with food, and very specifically making food, to be super complex. the weasleys managed to reconfigure food as a love language for him, overriding some really formative toxicity (and that's ignoring the failures/inherent grossness of how canon approached making the dursleys into villains; fuck jkr's fatphobia for real). until the weasleys and hogwarts, food was about scarcity vs excess, about serving vs being served, and i think it takes a long time to unspool all of that.

i think he holds having enough food as an ideal to strive for, even when he's food secure. it's hard for him to derive uncomplicated pleasure in preparing food (for himself, for other people) because it always feels indulgent.

and draco simply Cannot Relate. he's a picky eater! he indulges! he can't even fathom the binary harry is struggling to get past. if he cooks for himself (and i don't have a firm headcanon for whether he's good at it or not; i've imagined him as a chef [obvs] to totally helpless) that's about the ability to cater to his own taste and growing past childhood dependencies. if he cooks for other people, it's about a generosity of indulgence, wanting to share his own tastes.

so i think draco helps harry develop tastes, to deepen his appreciation for food while moving on from some of the guilt associated with it.

and i love imagining them working through this together over lovely, lazy breakfasts cooked together. doing it bit by bit on sunday mornings, half-dressed, eating out of the pan, halfway through a plate of food and it occurs to harry that "oh, we should've made some bacon, too" and draco's like "let's make bacon" so they go and do that. getting in each other's way, moving each other out of the way, swatting each other with hand towels and spatulas, "let's make bread" "idk how to make bread" "let's find out how to make bread", not putting the tomatoes on the plate if you don't really like them, just leave them off harry!!! where food is a love language because they're in love; "the world begins at a kitchen table" etc. etc.

Yo if that episode was just Fry’s dream, it seems like he’s having some repressed concerns about aging. Leela leaving him for a guy who called him elderly. The windos story of him literally winding down to death.

I like the theory that it was Fry's dream the best, and yeah it makes it interesting if fry is having some repressed fears and insecurities.

would have been nice if the episode had just ended with him waking up in bed next Leela, but without that confirmation i just don't really know what to make of this episode tbh, except it's an anthology with a different format that feels a bit like a soap opera with commercial breaks. the through line of the segments seems to be about death and reincarnation, but the main prince story just ended abruptly with nothing to tie it together and a quick explanation. idk. i didn't hate it but it could have been stronger

this one is just vibes tm. songs that i listen to when i’m picturing fights or action. i named it after the avengers because i liked the way it sounded, and i generally like the mcu’s music choices.

this one’s still under pretty heavy construction, but when it’s finished i want it to be a Danny Phantom inspired playlist that’s a bit spooky. i’m going for grungy, spooky, punk vibes.

this one is a Dick Grayson character playlist. i just wanted to add some songs that remind me of him/his vibes. think abba, Britney Spears, and a little bit of punk pop.

a Paulina Sanchez playlist!!! i love her so much and i realized i didn't have many 'bad bitch' playlists, so it felt fitting. this is a lot of female artists, mostly pop and rap. however, i have thought about adding some 'bubblegrunge.' thoughts?

now we’re getting into the fic specific playlists. this playlist is a BIG spoiler for my fic “The Princess and the Outlaws” so listen at your own risk. basically all the chapter titles for that fic are different Taylor Swift songs and they’re on that playlist. past those songs, we get into more vibes territory. this playlist in particular has a few different sections since it deals with the polycule Jazz Fenton/Jason Todd/Roy Harper/Koriand’r. the first section being chapter titles obviously, the next being songs about their relationship, then songs they would sing to/about their partners, then a girl power section because Kori and Jazz kick ass, and lastly non-romantic songs that give off their group vibes.

this playlist is specifically for my fic "hitting pitch black streets with pink clad heart beats." it's mostly Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, and Matt Maeson right now, but i want to add some more to it eventually. fun fact, i named the playlist that because a group of robins can be called a Blush or a Bobbin, among other things.

Will Byers is 100% that person who complains over tap water because he probably grew up with well water.

And he doesn’t like to complain when they move to California, but he mentions it enough that Joyce starts buying bottled Spring water when she goes grocery shopping. Joyce and Jonathan hated the tap water too, but they just found it amusing to hear Will rant about how nasty tap water is because “Mom, I can taste the chemicals they use to filter it, it’s disgusting,” every other time he gets a glass of water.

Mike is the person that doesn’t think there’s a difference.

He’ll be drinking a water bottle, like Dasani, and Will wrinkles his nose at it.

Eventually, when they’re in college Mike adds bottled spring water to the grocery list every couple of weeks so that his boyfriend doesn’t complain about the tap. He finds out that Will only likes spring water, and as he put it “sometimes I can handle Nestle Pure Life,” purified tap.

one type of ‘criticism’ that I hate reading is when people basically take a show and complain about how it’s not a completely different show, featuring completely different people. and i feel like black media disproportionally gets that treatment, and makes me angry every time people do it because it’s so unfair to black creatives.

a story about two young adults supporting each other in their professional endeavors? folks complaining about struggle narratives.

a story about a mother taking care of her son despite cps taking him away. folks complaining about black trauma.

a story about a sports legend on the rise. folks complaining that black people only ever get to do sports or entertainment.

a sitcom about a friend group. folks complaining about how it’s not a different group of friends. 

it’s like...this is not an actual media critique, this is just a stealth pitch or ranting about your personal wishlist. like can you actually talk about the actual show/movie/content?
