I've always loved the story of Matilda. I've only seen the musical once because of how musicals work, and how hard it is to see them not live, but the 90s movie was my favorite movie as a kid. As an adult, Matilda has given me really strong Jason-Todd-feelings. Especially in the song "Naughty," in just how Matilda really subscribes to the idea that if she wants things to be better, or at least to have things made 'right,' she has to do it herself. She can't and shouldn't just sit back and take abuse, she should fight back, no matter how little she is. That spirit in itself just always reminded me of Jason.

But now with the Netflix movie, I've watched the musical several times this week and it's really made me listen to the music (before I only listened to a couple of the songs with any repetition) and Wow do I have feelings. But this song in particular, at first I was thinking about how it would reflect on Jason & Bruce before I realized something...

This is exactly how Tim's story plays out. The song is the final song in the play, and it's called Still Holding my Hand. The lyrics go:

I believed that I would never be able to rely on anybody else. And I was sure that I would just have to learn to survive all by myself. And one day I opened my eyes, and looked to find that the sky had turned blindingly blue. And right by my side was you quietly taking a stand, and you were holding my hand.

And just. Think about that. Tim Drake was this tiny little child who inserted himself in Bruce's life because Batman needed help. He didn't go to Batman for help in anything, and while canon is kind of all over the place on Tim's own situation, he was a neglected child in basically every version. In the main one most people tend to use, he rarely had his parents around, and was instead raised by boarding schools and the housekeeper. But none of those people are parents. They aren't people you can rely on. They're all employees of someone or something. They aren't the same thing as nannies, and even then, nannies aren't replacements for parents. I say that as a former nanny. People who take care of you for a living aren't permanent fixtures in your life, no matter how wonderful, supporting, and loving they are. And that will cause a wall to be built between you, especially if you're used to being moved around or just don't have the same one your whole childhood.

So Tim, being 12 or 13, didn't have anyone in his life he could rely on. He relied on himself, and was fiercely independent as a result. It's certainly one of his strengths, and it was what made him approach Batman and save him over and over again. But even if it was a strength of his, everyone, everyone, but especially children need people they can rely on. And once the grieving-Bruce resigned himself to training this child they bonded. Bruce started noticing things about Tim, about Tim's parents. Or... lack of Tim's parents, and so he stepped up further. He became a father figure in Tim's life. Even if he was hesitant, because Tim wasn't his kid.

And one day.... Tim opened his eyes and saw. And he realized that Bruce was there for him. Bruce cared about him, loved him even, and Tim trusted him with his entire being. Something he never thought would happen. Kid-him relying on an adult so heavily.

gender in the mars house

this isnt very long & is mostly haphazard and off the cuff but i had to put down some of my thoughts as a nonbinary person on the way gender is portrayed in this book. spoilers obviously

i know as a long-time fan of miss pulley to not take the things she puts in her work at face value. obviously, i think thats true for basically anything not written for children, and even many things that are written for children. something else has to be going on, right? i found myself constantly thinking "whats the catch?"

it feels strange for the love interest to say literal terf rhetoric and imply that bioessentialism is part of the world building. because on one hand this is the love interest, a person that comes across as a charming, awkward nerd in the majority of the text, and theyre saying something completely hideous. not necessarily what they personally believe, but a truth about why things are the way they are on mars.

and because then i look at all these people who were assigned they/them at birth and wonder if any of them ever feel gender euphoria. if you are gender neutral because society says so and you were genetically modified, is there any joy in it? is there any real freedom in it? what about binary trans people? what about people like myself who use neopronouns? is this just neo-cisgenderism? this society is much less widespread gender equality and more of a rigid absence of diversity. otherwise wouldnt we see more genders instead of less?

most of the time everything is very normal. i know so many people who use they/them that it feels very comfortable and homey to see it used so much. but sometimes it feels off. its definitely a cis persons imagining of gender neutrality. because when you create a world where the reason these people are "nonbinary" is bioessentialism and not because they genuinely feel that way, it feels like the gender neutrality is... bad? wrong? misguided?

it makes me feel crazy. on mars gender is no more bc men historically have power over women and kill their wives? women are the victims of biology so now everyone is assigned they/them at birth? it leaves a very odd taste in my mouth. gale only ever addresses it once after this, admitting that actually abolishing gender didnt stop anyone getting killed, it was changing marriage law that did. so where does that leave us

i love a morally gray pulley love interest--if mori was real i would forgive him for all the murders then bat my eyelashes and say anything you want beautiful LMAO. but i think that mystery, when we're dealing with something like systematic oppression, thats a very different thing. i was waiting the whole book for them to say that it was a lie and gender was abolished for a different reason, or that they only said that for the optics.

i wonder what other trans & nb ppl think about it. is there something im not getting? do you like this mono-gender mars? do you think im completely off the mark? if anyone actually reads this i genuinely want to know 😭

natasha i love your work queen but theres a lot in this book that fails to convey what i think you were trying to convey. obv this is just one issue, there are plenty of others that i dont feel nearly as equipped to discuss, in this and her other books. and while i will always enjoy her prose and try to go in w good faith, certainly no one is infallible.

Buddhism Infodump Ahead😋:

OKAY SO- This all started like 2 years ago I think?? Because I was taking a Buddhism class (at this point my brain hadn’t really connected the dots yet with JTTW and the class lmao) and we were talking about Bodhisattva’s and how they’re all gender neutral (which I thought was so fucking cool). During the class, we talked about Guan Yin and finally it clicked in my brain that hey!! That’s the bodhisattva in JTTW! But I was confused because the book definitely uses she/her, when theyre supposed to be gender neutral? I pulled my prof aside after class and asked why that was?

And SO- the Guan Yin that appears in the book is a specific version from the school of Chan(Zen) Buddhism, which focuses more on meditation as a path to enlightenment. This kind of mediation can be done while going about daily life performing chores. As you meditate, you can be spontaneously enlightened, either triggered by a sound or change in your environment. This school has special versions of the Buddhas and Bodhisattva’s, like Rope Robed Monju and White Robed Guan Yin, who is (usually) depicted relaxing in their home (a bamboo grove said to be at Mt.Putuo) by a reflecting pool. When Christians started coming to China to convert people to Christianity, they saw this super popular version of Guan Yin ((which people at time were depicting as more feminine)(as bodhisattva’s can take any form they want)) and immediately equated them to Mother Mary. The white clothes, feminine appearance, and occasional depiction with children convinced Christians that they were worshiping Mary. Thanks to conversion efforts (and China not wanting to be attacked by Europe for denouncing ‘their God’), Guan Yin as a woman was cemented into the general population. So by the time JTTW was written, Guan Yin was portrayed as a woman! They also spread the idea that Buddhism ISNT a religion but a philosophy! Because then you can worship the Christian god and not yours, because yours is just a way of life not an actual religion! I’ve had ALOT of people tell me Buddhism is a philosophy and it activates my anger every time(These conversion efforts also resulted in a lot of Non-Asain countries having the the wrong idea of Buddhism since the missionaries brought back this warped version to Europe, ideas that still persist today).

Other Funfacts:

One iconographic detail that can help you identify Guan Yin, is that Amitabha is always sitting in their crown (not sure if this applies to avaloteshkovara tho), which also links them to Pureland Buddhism, as Amitabha is the Buddha of the Pureland and infinite light and life😌 (the western heaven in JTTW for context).

While Bodhisattva’s are not gendered, Buddha’s are! Which is probably related to the fact that Buddhas don’t really change their appearances like the Bodhisattva’s do, since they don’t usually interact with humans

Guan Yin is also known as Kannon(Japan), Gwan-uem(Korea), and Avaloteshkovara(India)

Amida (Japans name for Amitabha) also performs the Raigo or welcoming descent and can be accompanied by Kannon and Seishi to take people to the Pureland as they’re dying. This is where they will spend their next life, listening to lectures by Amida, as they try to reach enlightenment

Nirvana literally means extinction, it means removing your self from the cycle of reincarnation and finally resting

When you are enlightened, you become one with everything, including other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

There are over 80 signs of enlightenment including the urna, ushnisha, and elongated earlobes. The earlobes are from the historical Buddha Siddhartha, who as an Indian prince, would have stretched lobes for Jewelry

You can also ID a specific Buddha by the combination of Mudras they are displaying- Abhaya and Varada are specifically for Shakyamuni (the historical Buddha). Amitabha with the Samahita Mudra (I’m having trouble finding its name, so I’m not 100% sure it’s right)

Two of the Bigger Branches of Buddhism are Mahayan Buddhism(which is more popular in North Asia) and Theravada Buddhism (which is more popular in South Asia)

In esoteric Buddhism, the more heads and arms a deity has, the more powerful they were, see 11 Headed Guan Yin

TO CONCLUDE ALL THESE FUN LITTLE FACTS: Buddhism is a religion and is different in every country it’s practiced in, JTTW showing just a small snippet! Hopefully there was some stuff in here you didn’t know and if there is something in here that might be wrong, let me know! I might not get everything right and I’d love to learn/correct anything!

HA well I obviously want to gush about some of these but this is Unpopular Opinion Time and I'm gonna do my darndest to be unpopular

Thomastair -> I think this is an unpopular opinion that a lot of people don't realize that they subconsciously contradict. Thomas is not an Alastair extension. He is more than a love interest. He is a bright person who shines on his own and with friends, too, and he has a complex personality and, believe it or not, a full range of emotions. I don't think that anyone active in the current Thomastair fandom treats Thomas like this, but a lot of other TLH fans who aren't focused on Thomastair very much view them as "Alastair and the other guy" and I hate it. Another related opinion: Thomas is a grown man who can take care of himself and not a helpless woobie. He can clean up his own messes. He can boil water or slap together a sandwich. He has critical thinking skills. He's smart and has his own opinions. Fandom should treat him like it!

Herondaisy -> I love them together but I wish they were given more agency in their own narrative. Cordelia feels like she frequently gets swept up by the plot, and she sometimes feels like she doesn't have control over her own story. I want her to. I do like that she actively chooses James and wants to be with him, I think it's a great facet of her character and their relationship. But yeah, it's that. Also I LOVE THEIR DOMESTIC SCENES and maybe that's unpopular idk

Wessa -> Lmao this ship is treated so terribly in the book canon. One of the best ships ever written, Cassie developed them beautifully in TID, and they did not deserve to be treated as a blip in another couple's century-long love story that the creator (and a good portion of the fandom) clearly subconsciously consider the True Endgame. Fuck that.

Sophiegideon -> I don't think I have any unpopular opinions, they're delightful and I love them. Also they have three delightful children and I love all of them, too. The genes really worked in their favor.

Arianna -> Actually not a "favourite ship," but I do like them. However, I primarily like them because I've banged them into shape with my headcanons. In canon, unless they really communicate and do the work, they're really incompatible. Anna will need a total personality overhaul to accommodate Ari's (totally valid and awesome) desire to basically be a tradwife mom. I don't think she can do it based on where she is at the end of ChoT. I think that in 2-5 years, sure, but they need to wait a while to adopt a baby. I want them in Better in Black so I can put my trepidations to rest. I think Cassie would do a good job with them if she wrote them in an established relationship.

I respect your decision of not giving options for an oblivious romance, even if it pains me a little that my mental picture of Nysthe being "pls gal I love you" and the MC being like "yes I love you too, as my best mate!" will never happen. I guess I will have to cope with my MC being like "you deserve better, I will never be able to be a full wife to you because I will have to marry a man for the sake of my kingdom and let him impregnate me".

Dunno how the whole royal mistress is going to go, in contries like France it eventually became another position in the court in the modern age with even a salary, but we are still in the middle ages here.

Btw I have to congratulate you for what you have written, I love it and I can't wait for the update and for the game to eventuale release so that I can buy it.

That whole dynamic is supposed to feel uncomfortable, and there'll be people who think im aiming at the folks who want those relationships except im not...in fact they get more content and story time!

And it sent me on a massive mini-research rabbit hole of how I could make it work.

I can switch the worldbuilding by a tiny bit, but it wouldnt be that much of a change since the Goddess is one of love, and the commonfolk actually participate in same sex marriages!

Basically, the possible conclusion I came to was creating a sorta

Uh, lemme warn, this is gonna be LONG but if same sex marriages and relationships in the game interest you, please read on as it'd affect you!

Anyways, I came to a conclusion that if i want to implement this change into the game, I'd have to consider these things and analyze through a cost benefit analysis, AND YES! THIS IS WHAT GOES INTO MY HEAD WHEN YOU ASK ME FOR SOMETHING LMAO:

How much demand is there?

How much time and effort would the coding require?

Understand that the commitment to do this would require me basically add what amounts to a semi harem system, something I know would be troublesome.

How do I write the concubines? Are they just placeholder characters that are there to be breeded? Knowing myself and the effort i put into characters, they wouldn't be, thus even more effort.

Would they be lower class so that the children they bear could only be used by yourself and is no threat to your same sex lover?

How would the family of the same-sex lover behave towards the relationship and the child? Remember this is a world where bloodlines ARE NEEDED! Which means the same-sex lover's family would want an heir if theyre the only ones who exists to continue the family line

Do I cry as the realization hits me that trying to make it work is difficult or do i rise to the occasion and try something else?

I stop crying.

Create a possible gameplan

Possible gameplan:

Rewrite that same-sex marriages are okay on the nobility level, and use the concubine system as an institution that is provided by the church via Holy Pimping. The concubines are basically lowerclass commoners raised by the church for this purpose, thus presenting no threat of political machinations of another noble family (Just the church can do political machinations lmao).

This will obviously be a fucked up system on the surface level but concubine will explain that tbh it was the best deal they could ask for. They give an heir, and theyre provided for for their entire life to live in comfort.

This idea is inspired by the Noble Hunters of Dragon Age Origins. I linked the page for you guys to read, but basically, Noble hunter is the title applied to dwarves who seek to improve their life and advance their social status in the rigidly defined caste system of Orzammar by seducing members of higher castes and siring children with them. The dwarven caste system operates upon the principle that dwarves inherit their caste from their same-sex parent. In practice this means that if a woman is married to a man of a different caste, her son would be the same caste as his father while the daughter will inherit her mother's caste. In such cases, however, the family would normally live in the house of the parent who belongs to a higher caste. Due to this system, as well as because dwarves have a low fertility rate, the noble hunters are a valuable asset to the dwindling dwarven society. Beyond practicality, noblemen enjoy the status of having a beautiful and sophisticated noble hunter as a paramour as well, so the mutually beneficial system perpetuates itself. In spite of this, it is unknown whether noble wives censure noble hunters or tolerate them as a necessary fact of life.

So basically just change that all up for the church providing high quality concubines for the nobles who need one.

The same-sex families would probably only allow this if there was another family member to propagate the family line. So that can create drama and the like for the MC and RO if the RO is the last of their line.

Now.

Thats the possible implementation of what id do to let you have same sex marriages.

Who knows? I may do it as part of the final release of the game, but realistically, this would only bring me problems with other readers who'd yell that "harems should totally be a thing then!" Or that "Why should have poly!"

But anyways, i really wanted to answer and show that i actually did give it thought. Like serious thought.

They're into yoga, but also burning things down? lmao. they definitely have a dark side, and theyve healed their shadow side, but they prefer living in a more divine feminine energy. they might be a bit on the chubbier side, but i also think theyre actively pursuing to reduce it? they don't need to though, because I see that they're healthy. They might have a dog. They might want to have children with you. They seem like they are quite rich, not outrageously freakishly rich but they're comfortable. They might love hiking and walking. They love going on treks. They have two sides to them for sure..theyre kinda like a walking contradiction.

Yeah this is what Omegas arcs tend to be--convincing tbb to help other people. I can see how this would be written as a Good Conflict to consistently have, as one could argue tbbs lack of concern for other folks and their unwillingness to help others stems from them originally doing that with regs all the damn time so no they're self centered as a default. Like I can see how that could be a potential understanding here but unforch the execution of it :/

i recently dug up this weird awkward rant-thing about garou i typed out over discord back in february and thought that i should try comparing my thought on his character now to my thoughts from a little over two months ago.

- "get rid of heroes"

i wouldn't say that he was trying to get rid of heroes. in a way, he wanted to be a hero himself. i think that he not only just wanted to prove a point (heroes arent as awesome epic cool as the media makes them seem), but he also only ever hated the idea of false heroism. not heroism itself; instead the false heroism that the heroes in the association parade around for popularity and ranks, not worrying about the issues too small for them to care for. he wanted to replace this false heroism with... real monster-ism. lol. just his "absolute evil" stuff. honestly, from the way he worded it, absolute evil is just unbiased justice. peace and order achieved via unethical means. because in his eyes, this evil could spread where good wouldnt. (if he just (literally) got gud it would have the same effect. same strength but give him a heart made out of rainbows and puppies like mumen rider)

- "heroes win too much"

i still stand by this. heroes/protagonists in fiction need to lose more often. gets kinda bland when in every form of media it is always the protagonist winning to state a moral at the end of "dont be a bad guy". but garous relevance as a character isnt about that. it isnt about him being a bad guy. its about him being a good guy under the guise of a bad one. and the lesson to be learned from him and what he says is that the people who appear good often only appear good for face; on the inside, theyre the real monsters. during garou's flashbacks regarding justice man, a cartoon that he and many other children watched, we find that the villains of the show tend to have actually good reasons. like the monster that garou defended who was trying to restore peace to the ocean. (maybe following the direction of garou, the ha could air a children's cartoon centred around a monster as the protagonist. i would unironically watch it.)

- "the pity card"

i feel now as though garou was never meant to be written as a bad character. instead, i think that he was always meant to be a strange sort of hero. by the "pity card" i am referring to when writers take a character who is initially evil and gives a backstory to get viewers to like the villain more and understand their side. but while that may work on me sometimes, you'll notice that this isnt the case with garou. even from the start, (or, well, not from the START, but from the beginning, i guess. his start was beating up a bunch of people lmao. but most of them were bad people, so my point is still there in a way) garou is a good person. hes a sort of mentor figure to tareo and stands up to bullies for him, protecting the shed and deflecting bullets just so that tareo doesnt get hurt by a "hero". he doesnt kill metal bat and his sister when he has the chance. later on, he saves someone from getting used as a sacrifice to the monster association as well as an old man getting mugged. (granted, he dine-and-dashes after, but its fine. hes just a silly little guy.)

- "id let him destroy the world and even then, he wouldnt"

again, i agree with february me on this. even while under the influence of god, who gives him the power to live out his original goal of ruling the world, garou starts sobbing when he realizes that he killed tareo from the radiation. we see him desperately crawling away in a meager attempt to save the young boy. from this you can tell that he finally comes to the truth: world domination would never achieve the peace he wanted. the people he tried to save with his absolute evil, those helpless, bullied children on the school playground that painfully remind him so much of himself would've died. garou snaps out of gods influence from that, asking saitama to take gods power in his place. garou says that he himself is the ominous future that must be defeated, as he is the one who killed the only thing that had mattered to him at that point. im guessing that garou never remembers this moment, but it does impact his character.

- "because hes a good guy"

back to the topic of garou not actually being a villain! as i mentioned, he isnt a bad person. he has more compassion and regard for human life than some members of the hero association (amai mask nearly slaughtering human people under mind control, metal knight knowing information about the hostage they had to save but still refusing to comply, etc.) hes more of a hero than a majority of the heroes in the ha. just a little unhinged. but hey, so are at least 60% of the s class heroes, garou would fit right in. hes definitely strong enough, hes clearly fine with killing monsters, hes good with kids, and hes a little crazy. (most importantly hes got accidental rizz comparable to amai. i can picture him running from an insane fanclub. the girlies would love him.)

so has my opinion really changed? not really, lmao. still love him, always will. forever my favourite character in the series. i think that i maybe understand him better though. do i feel cringe for writing this long ass shit about some fictional dude? yup. wont stop.

I've been an eager reader for LITERALLY as long as I can remember (the way my mom tells it, I literally taught myself to read which tbh I don't remember enough to dispute that fact and it makes me sound cool so I'll take it) HOWEVER as a kid I was a huge fan of the magic treehouse and bailey school kids series. idk if they were the first ones I ever read tho

11. what non-fiction books do you like if any?

oooh ok ok so when I was a kid my parents had a whole STACK of these nonfiction books for kids called "I wonder why" and each one had like. a different theme. my favorite one was "I wonder why triceratops had horns (and other questions about dinosaurs)" and the whole book was about dinosaurs and answering different "questions" that kids might ask about them. and bro I ate that shit UP. I think my family had about 15 to 20 of these books, in a range of topics from extinct animals to ancient egypt to reptiles to plants, and I used to stack them all in a big pile on my bedroom floor and just read each one, cover to cover, one by one. I must've read those books at LEAST 7 times each, and I loved them soooo much. a lot of the topics are STILL interesting to me (like dinosaurs and extinct animals and ecosystems) and it was so funny because the other day my mom was talking about all the old books the family used to have and she offhandedly mentioned those ones and said something like "yeah none of the kids liked them so they just sat on the shelf :(" and I had to tell her that I actually had them mostly memorized at one point lmao

20. what are things you look for in a book?

mostly I just look for a good time !!! I loooove complicated/fascinating worldbuilding, like with six of crows, and I also want to be reading about characters who I like/connect with !! if the book is romance-centric I'm less inclined to want to read it UNLESS it's very well written (six of crows is largely about romance but they're all sooooo well crafted that I just ??? love them all ???? and it's also balanced out by the platonic dynamics and overall worldbuilding and plot so they're very enjoyable to me even though the romance plays a big part in it) BUT OVERALL I just wanna have a good time yknow

can I ask some stuff about the rop adaption (and disclaimer im non white/mixed) but the casting is very much giving tokenism to me and it doesn't seem to mesh with the origin mythology of these races. if we only have a few throwaway of side characters who are poc it makes no sense with the origin story for those races.

it feels, like is done in a lot of properties that a couple of side characters will be poc and the majority of the cast is white. if there are seven main houses of dwarves there should by all purposes be a homogeny there and just having the occasional character be non white makes no sense because those physical traits would have disappeared after a couple generations.

it actually makes the most sense for dwarves for be very diverse in every respect (not just skin color) since theyre an assumption of the children, so having a lot of diversity in all their appearances makes sense both in height, weight, stature and all physical appearances. theyre also separated into the seven main houses and these seven houses being very different from each other would be really interesting.

its similar with the elves. they were created according to a divine plan, which means eru must have had specific intensions for all the elves he created, which included appearances or races presumably. elves are said to be very similar looking and rather homogenous both in sex and appearance.

its been speculated that there were only about 200 in the beginning. if racially diverse there should have been a pretty big subsection of non white elves in order for those genotypes to be sustained for so many generations but I believe we've only seen one black elf so far and its a non canon character created for the show. there should be some homogeny among elves so it only makes sense if theres a significant portion of the population thats non white but I doubt they'll do that?

it seems like some side and minor characters will be non white and thrown into the mix and the rest will be mostly homogenous white, which is what these shows almost always do. its also weird that they dont seem to have any intention of dissecting the actual racism in the story both with the antisemetic criticism and the villainous Easterlings whom are coded as being mena or south asian. idk. it seems like something shows do a lot which is add some poor diversity and use that as a shield to delegitimise actual criticism, while not actually doing that much for representation.

I do agree about the tokenism aspect - I remember feeling pretty disappointed that the few non-white characters we got were new characters written for the show and not from canon. it just felt like a copout because they're already going to get hate for being invented characters, and then on top of that the racists are gonna have a field day :( kinda similar to the way tauriel got hate for being a female character and made up

honestly I haven't personally given much thought to many of these points before, so I don't know! and I don't know much about the canonical descriptions of the appearances of different houses of elves and dwarves etc, and my brain really isn't working today, so I really don't know what to say or what i think. but yeah it seems that even though the racists are pissed, people who want genuine representation aren't entirely pleased either

and yeah lmao I always thought the easterlings felt very turkic-coded, especially in the lotr film portrayals....... jokes on jirt and the filmmakers because i'm turkish and i found all the soldiers from rhun extremely .. ahh . 🥵🥵🥵😛

ehh it's probably best to just wait for the show to actually come out, or at least some more information, and then we can make more informed ideas about it all

Hello again! I am doing better atm - I've basically had like, one long bug for three weeks, and like...I'd start feeling better. Go to work. Get worse from the exertion. Have to miss work. Get better slightly, so go to work...yeah XD I do seem to be on the mend now, I've just got a bit of residual pain and cough, and some of my underlying issues are being a bit unpleasant. But I'm taking it XD I had to take almost a week off work last week but I think the prolonged rest helped.

And hey that sounds really cool though!! So guessing you're in uni then? How's that going? Where I am it's starting to come up to exam season, so the people that I know are in uni at the moment are all quite stressed, bless them.

I don't mind showing you them like, privately, but due to my style being quite...unique (by courtsey of making a lot of it) I try to keep it off public tumblr to some extent, just because anyone who knows me would know immediately this was me. Tbh it's not a big deal if they did, but since I work with kids I feel the need to be more careful with social media these days.

And ok but see, I have very straight hair, and I've always wanted frizzy/fluffy hair!! Sometimes I fear we just want what we don't have XD

I think the hypocrisy is related to the modern world however! Social media kinda encourages a very black and white thinking of things, and most things are not so black and white (I mean like, obviously if someone's like. "Haha, I want to murder babies"...that's not a black and white issue. But you get me XD) So you end up with people being like "x is always bad". Then they'll later be like..."this thing that's basically x is fine"?

Inflation is SHIT. Look when I moved into my current place my phone bill was exactly 10 quid a month. It's not like 13 something!! It's not the biggest hike, my energy bill has freaking doubled, but by nature of it starting at a solid 10 I can see the inflation so much easier. It's a 30% increase!!

And see I am very lucky, I have seen a few online friends! My gf and I met through tumblr, and I've got two close friends that by thankful virtue of being in the same country I've been able to meet quite a few times...I met one who I've since lost contact with sadly, but I'm hoping to meet a couple more! OH and one is in a ldr with one of my close friends so I'll see her when she comes here (well I should do) but idk when that would be yet.

And look I have SO many fast fashion complaints. A big reason why I do so much thrifting and sewing is because I just hate fast fashion. I know it's sorta popular in some circles to talk about the shit quality, but it's shit because companies are paying people like a penny a piece for it -.- I refuse to use places like shein and temu...

I think in the next five years...generally I'm wanting to see a shift in climate change. I have a lot of climate anxiety, and I'm hoping that we start getting actual change in how politicians and companies approach the issues?? I want more eco changes. More bikes, cheaper plant based food, less fossil fuels, etc...I also want my government to stop making life harder for no reason. They recently decided people who have visas to work in the care industry over here can't have their kids come from overseas too?? Like there are people who now have their kids in other countries cause of this shit??? If they're working here, they deserve their kids to be here. How is that not the default idea!!

Less generally, I'm hoping to see improvements in my personal life XD I want to see a couple doctors to get some shit sorted out, and I want to improve my art further, and sort out where exactly I'm going with my career.

And nah that makes perfect sense! Honestly I'm a bit of a pushover, I'll take a lot from people. I think mainly the things that will really make me go. Hm. I mean, if you're outright a really terrible person (like if you told me you murder babies for fun, to use my "terrible person" example from above XD) I'm not gonna be interested in talking to you, but that's kinda obvious. But I think the things that make me go "red flag" are usually more personal things based on past experience. For example, I knew someone once who would move my mobility aids away from me, and I'd be like...right well I can't. Move now. Please give them back. And they're one of the few people I've cut contact with. But tbh I feel like I probably need more boundaries, I just get like...what if I'm being too harsh on this person XD

a fic of steve x reader where steve as a dad pls 🥺

hey anon! i’ll probably not write anyone with a child character just because i am so bad at writing children (i attempted it here) buuuuut here’s what i think he’d be as a dad ;) (p.s. i’ve never written a headcanon before so be nice)

i can totally see steve retiring and being a stay-at-home dad

before the kids are even born, he’s reading like 3 parenting books a day

he also tries to keep his kids out of the spotlight as much as possible, and just wants them to have as normal of a childhood as possible

he 100% does arts and crafts with them all the time. theres not enough fridge space for all the macaoni art and hand turkeys

ever since steve woke up in this century he has become very dedicated to making food actually taste good, so i could 100% see him making very complex meals for his chlidren (who turn around and spit it out/feed it to the dog because kids are like that 🙄)

steve would probably have a knack for baking and would be the main contributor to the school bake sales

he’s the world’s #1 boo-boo kisser (and the kids always mysteriously feel better after 🤨)

the kids beg and beg him to get a pet and he always says no and swears he’d never let anything thats not a human live in the house buuuuuut one day a dog inexplicably ;) shows up in the house, and steve and the dog instantly become inseparable

he finally has a walking buddy 🥲

he gets way too enthusiastic at sports events and always takes his kids out to get ice cream no matter the result of the game

steve is also the type of dad to bring the good snacks to their soccer games n shit so the other kids are always searching for him lmao

if you/your daughter have natural hair, he steve would research SO. MUCH. on how to do hair, i’m talking youtube videos on styles, products, etc, and he becomes really good at doing your kids’ hair and always teachers your kids to love their hair. he’s very gentle with it too & would never call you or your child tenderheaded (am i projecting? maybe...)

he also gives A1 scalp massages

he teaches his kids that they always have to persist, even when things get hard (which leads to lots of nights where he wipes away their tears while they work on homework together)

WHICH reminds me that he would definitely learn tons of new random skills just to help them with things (he absolutely donates to khan academy every year because of how much they help him and the kids)

i feel like steve would be super popular in their little suburb, not because he’s a superhero, but because he’s just a very involved parent in the community

he definitely goes door to door with the kids when theyre selling stuff (like girl scout cookies or chocolate bars or whatever it is that kids sell) and he acts like he does it to be a good guardian buuuut it does help them get more sales

he’s the head of the PTA and neighborhood watch for sure

he makes the whole family do daily affirmations in the morning related to their self worth

i feel like there’d be a huge emphasis on family time in the house as well, every friday is pizza and movie night, game nights, family vacations all all the time

overall i just think he’d be a very good dad 😊
