Steve shows up to work one day with a baby bjorn complete with sleeping baby on his chest and Robin is like Steve....what the fuck?
And Steve says "I would've called you last night but she'd only stop crying when I held her and my parents were fighting, obviously, and I had to figure out how to make her bottle then I fell asleep with her on top of me and I think my dad legitimately forgot about us even though this is his fault, and there's no one to take care of her so I had to bring her. Sorry."
That is a lot and answers very few of Robin's questions.
"who...is she?"
Steve brightens and smiles down at the baby who's tiny baby fist is scrunched up in his work vest. "Oh! My half sister. Her mom works for one of my dad's business partners and brought her to my parents while they were away last week so they came home, mostly to dump her off on a nanny they forgot to hire--hence my baby holder here--and fight. Turns out dad cheating is easier to ignore when there isn't actual proof of it."
"oh. Woah."
"yeah. Anyways, ready to rewind some tapes?"
So they start work Steve logging returns into the computer and cupping the baby whose name I don't know yet's head. Then the little baby wakes up, making little baby noises, and Robin is not one for babies really, but Steve coos and picks her hand off his chest and waves it at Robin.
"see, that's your auntie Robin! Say hiii auntie Robin!"
The baby chews her tongue at Robin and blows a spit bubble.
And how is Robin supposed to not be charmed by that?
"awww," she says, letting the baby grab her finger, "yeah, I'm your auntie Robin. Your big brother's gonna take care of you so good huh? You'll know your way around retail in no time."
Steve giggles.
It is then that The Gremlins decide to show up and Cause Noise. Baby sister starts to cry and Steve takes her to the back to get her to calm down and change her, comes out (ignores the party's questions. Giving them Ultimate Mom Pose with Bonus Effect of Baby) hands her to Robin who is a little nervous but she will not let her new niece (?) Down, and goes back to find and heat up a bottle.
Eddie, who drove the gremlins and was looking for something in his van comes in, sees Robin holding the baby and is like huh? What's this?
And then Steve comes out with a bottle and a baby blanket over his shoulder, reaches for the baby from Robin and tries to get her to latch on the bottle with quiet words and gentle hands and Eddie is not okay he's not fine he's having a melt down because Steve with the kids is one thing but Steve with a Baby is something very different and he should not be expected to keep it together seeing this

El doesn't understand her friends sometimes.
It's to be expected she supposes, growing up in a lab there's sure to be things you don't understand about the real world.
There's things like the war of the stars and the ghost catching car that are stories her friends like. There's things like mouth breathers and bullies and jocks she thinks are a lot like papa. There's things like maths class and school projects and all the things her friends understand so easily.
Her friends are never mean about it, they show her the movies she's missed, they stand up for her against bullies and they explain their maths homework like it's fun and easy which makes her smile.
The biggest thing she doesn't understand is why her friends are mean to Steve about the same things. Steve called the funny little green man Yoba and Lucas laughed at him for two weeks. Steve was watching the sport game on tv and Mike called him a dumb jock, but Steve is nothing like papa. Steve gave Dustin the wrong change and yelled at Steve for not knowing how to count.
El doesn't understand her friends. Don't they know it was hard for Steve too. He didn't grow up in a lab but at least El had siblings growing up, Steve was all alone in that big house he has. Steve didn't have a Papa but once Steve's dad came home and they weren't allowed to see him for a week, El checked on him, Steve's dad yells a lot. Steve got to go to school, but El knows he has trouble reading the big books sometimes.
El tries to tell her friends this, but they say it's different for Steve, and that Steve doesn't mind them teasing him. El doesn't like the word teasing, Angela would tell her teachers the same word. So El helps Steve. She brings Steve over to the cabin to watch the war of the stars together, they giggle at the teddy bears. El asks Steve to teach her how to throw a basketball, she thinks jocks can be nice. El asks Steve for help with her homework, Steve's really good at dioramas. They read the big books together, el shows him how she learnt to sound out the big words, Steve smiles.
El doesn't always understand her friends, but she now she understands Steve a lot more.

rewatching season 2 very closely and i never realized how Steve's like. always willing to listen to the kids. he's constantly hearing them out and always treats their ideas as worth trying to understand
when mikes going on about bob and the demodog army, steve asks a little 'what do you mean' to get him to elaborate. even as they're running around talking about shadow monsters and referencing a drawing and 'what Mr Clarke taught us' he's actively following along, asking questions when he's confused and keeping up with where they're going. they definitely sound like kids still when talking in s2, and they absolutely still look like kids (Steve's like half a foot taller than most of them still) and yet it doesn't sound like hes talking to kids, he's just talking normal
and i feel like a lot of us forget because that dynamic is so different in season 4, but all the kids and especially dustin have no problem explaining their thoughts. s2 ep8 has a lot of this specifically. Mike and Dustin both elaborate on any questions like its nothing, no groans or exasperation. Hell, Dustin loves using big words and explanations and a running bit is that he keeps over-explaining things to other characters like max and hopper. but steve and the kids are on equal ground, no one's acting like anyone's incapable even while they argue
and he treats all their ideas 100% seriously, even the more out-there dnd talk. and he even looks at Hopper funny when he won't take Dustins mind flayer theory seriously
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
first: following along with Dustin, looking at him seriously
second: hoppers annoyed, saying it can't help because it's a kids game
third: dustin's rebuttal, a glimpse of Steve's face, mouth open looking at hopper. this screenshot looks like weird looking, but you see the differences. hes notably changed expression looking at hop
and fourth: dustin continuing to talk to hopper while steve looks back down at the book.
he's just so important to the group, both in a genre sense (because how many things go wrong in movies because nobody will listen to the kids) and in a group dynamic (it makes sense that he's popular, he seems to be the kinda person to include everyone in conversations and actually listen to them)

Big Brother Steve who wants the kids to realize he’s a safe place to go, so he teaches them all kinds of things like how to shotgun a beer (though, he hands the kids soda’s when they learn because despite all the underage drinking he did when he was their age, he is not letting them go down the wrong path here), the buddy system at parties, despite their grumbles and huffs he teaches them about sex (nothing grotesque, just little things like you don’t have to if you’re not ready, who and where to do it with, how to be safe, and he lets them know if they’re ever uncomfortable they can call him and he won’t ask questions but he’ll answer any if asked). He teaches them stupid party tricks that he once was known for. But really, he teaches them that he’s a safe place to land. He needs them to know they have somewhere to go, someone who cares, because he never did.

SPOILERS FOR S4 EPISODES 4 AND 5
Tumblr media
Requested: Yes - @goingdelux18 (I know I said it would take a couple days but I got inspired and now we're here lol)
Word Count: 1,184
Summery: The night after Max escapes Vecna, she opens up to Steve, telling him the things she's been scared to tell anyone. If she can trust anyone, it's her big brother. And he is more than happy to be that brother for her. She's a pretty cool little sister to have.
~~~~~~
Max was curled up in one corner of the couch in Mike's basement, surrounded by Lucas, Dustin, Robin, Nancy, and Steve who was currently the only other person awake, watching over her. …Steve did that a lot. Watched over her.
He was sitting on the floor in front of the couch, flipping through a dungeons and dragons book that had been laying around the basement. It couldn't hurt to get at least a little bit of an idea of what these kids were always talking about.
After a while of sitting in silence, listening to Kate Bush until her tape ended and she had to rewind it, she lowered her headphones and tapped Steve's shoulder. He turned and looked up at her, giving her a smile, "Hey. You holding up okay?"
"Well… I haven't seen him so… yeah, I guess okay enough."
He nods and glances at the empty spot on the couch next to her, "...You okay if I sit?"
"Yeah, sure." She tried not to show how relieved she was to have him sitting next to her. Protecting her. Being the real bother she wanted and needed.
He put the book down and sat next to her, pulling her to his side, starting a little awkwardly, "...You know, you can talk to me. If you want. You don't have to but I'm not gonna judge you. For anything."
"...I-I know… But you're always so worried and I didn't wanna make you worry more."
"Hey, I was born full of anxiety. I'm gonna be worried whether you tell me stuff or not."
She laughed a little, leaning into his side, "...You didn't read the letter, did you…?"
"No. And I knew I wasn't going to have to because I'm not letting anything happen to you. Any of you."
"You can't know that."
"Yeah, actually, I can. I'll do whatever I have to, to protect you shitheads. And that means you're gonna be fine."
"...Just… hold onto it, just in case, okay?"
"I'll keep it. But I'm never going to have to open it. And you've gotta believe that, too, Max."
She nodded and was quiet for a while before she swallowed hard, tears in her eyes as she buried her face in Steve's shoulder. "...Vecna… said something."
"Yeah?"
"...That… a part of me was… is… relieved that Billy died."
"Well, yeah, of course you are."
She sat up to look at him, surprise in her teary eyes.
"Hey, I told you I'm not gonna judge," he said with a small smile, "And… listen, he wasn't good to you. You deserved better, Max. And that doesn't mean you can't be sad about it, because somewhere in there you did care about him a little. But it's okay that you're glad you don't have to deal with all of that anymore. It's normal to be relieved when you're not being hurt."
"...How do you know exactly what I'm feeling?"
"Well, my dad's not dead, but sometimes I wish he was. But I also love him sometimes. I don't want to, I don't know why I do, but I do. I get sad when he and my mom are gone all the time sometimes, but I'm also so fucking relieved he's not there. I think it'd be the same if he died."
"...I knew you got it. I always could tell that you got it. Is that why you're so nice to me?"
"I'd still be nice to you if my dad wasn't a piece of shit, Max. …But I guess it helps me understand some of what you deal with. More than the others can."
She nodded a little, snuggling into his side again as he held her protectively. Like a big brother should. "...Sorry."
"Don't be. If it means I can help you more, then I'm glad I dealt with it."
"Really?"
"Yeah. And someday I promise, you're gonna be glad too, because you'll be able to help somebody else through it. It's hard to not become like them when they beat you down so much, and a little help makes a difference. I'm always here to help you, okay?"
Max nodded and Steve could feel a little wet spot forming on the shoulder of his shirt. Which only made him hold her closer.
They sat like that for a while before Steve softly spoke up again, "...Hey Max… what was in the letter?"
"...Stuff I thought you should know."
"...Can I know it now?"
"...Just… stuff about… how you're the brother I needed. And wanted. And I'm really glad you help us and take care of us. …And how if you died first I was gonna take the bat."
"Oh shit, does this mean I have to write up a will and put that the bat goes to you?"
"Shut up, you're not allowed to die."
He laughed slightly, "Neither are you."
"Deal."
"...You know you're all like my siblings, right? And you and Dustin especially. I never had siblings growing up. I'm glad I do now."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"...Thanks, Steve."
"Nothing to thank me for. I just saw a bunch of shitheads who needed help and picked up a bat."
She laughed a little, "I'm glad."
"Me too."
They were quiet for a while again, just feeling the comfort provided by each other, before Max spoke up again. "...I keep thinking… maybe if I saved him… we could've been like… actual brother and sister. Like us. Not… hating each other. Maybe he would've started being nice to me… Is that crazy?"
"No. It's not crazy. And I can't tell you what would've happened if he hadn't died, but I can tell you, it wasn't your fault. That thing was going for him… it was gonna get him, Max. If you'd gotten in the way, it would've gotten you, too."
"...I know. And… honestly? He probably wouldn't have changed. He didn't change when I threatened him with the bat, so I don't know why that would've made him change. …I just… can't help it. Yknow?"
"Yeah. I know. And whatever you're feeling, it's okay. It's okay if one minute you miss him and the next you're happy he's gone. You're okay, Max. It's all okay."
"...I'm not going crazy?"
"Not even close. Even if it feels like that sometimes. You're not. I promise. And we're all here for you, everybody here is a lifeline for you. Okay? Us and Kate Bush."
She smiled slightly and nodded, "Okay."
"Now how about we listen to that song, huh? It sounds pretty cool, and it literally saved your life, so…"
Max nodded and turned her Walkman up as loud as it would go before playing the song, while Steve rested his head against hers, both to hear the song better and to comfort her.
Between the music and using him as a pillow, Max did eventually fall asleep on his shoulder for a while. Glad that she had a big brother who did really care for her, and wanted to protect her. Despite everything… she felt lucky to have that. To have this whole little family.
Steve actively working to be a better person and learning that he has so, so much love to give and so many different kinds of love. He loves Robin because she's the best part of him, and he loves Robin because she's smart and kind and she loves him. He loves Dustin because he latched onto Steve and never let go, he loves Dustin because he still needs someone to remind him to the homework he's too smart for. He loves Nancy because he always will, he loves Nancy because they don't really fit together quite right but she's one of the best people he knows. He loves Max because she scowls at him when she demands a ride, and he loves Max because she stared her fate right in the eyes and didn't flinch even though he knows she was scared.
Summary: Wayne left the safety zone thinking he might find a couple of survivors that he could help. If his luck was bad, he'd find a few that needed to be put down before they fully turned. The last thing he expected was to find a group of children, no adults in sight.
Characters: Wayne Munson, Steve Harrington, Maxine Mayfield, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Erica Sinclair, Billy Hargrove, Eddie Munson, Gareth (the Great)
Warnings: Implied character death(s), unprocessed grief, implied manipulation, angst
Word Count: 1,301
A/N: This beginning of part one of my Stranger Things zombie AU! I have no idea how many parts it might be (yet). Steve is about 15, Erica roughly 6, and i have the other kids at about 9. Wayne is written to be about 36 here. This is a sort of blend of zombie apocalypse worlds that I have been consuming recently and have been inspired by but it is going to stay closest to the Warm Bodies universe (if you're not familiar it's okay - you don't need to know anything about it to understand!) Enjoy.
----------
"Mr. Munson, why were you traveling all alone?" Max asked, straight to the point as always. Wayne learned quickly there was no beating around the bush with that one.
"Maxine-"
"No Steve, it's alright. It's a fair question." Wayne leaned against his legs, edging closer to the fire. "We've been traveling together for a while. I can tell you my story. But it ain't a happy one. You sure you wanna hear it?"
Bright blue eyes danced in the dying flames as she looked up at him. "Is it scary?"
"A little bit, yes. But most things are, Max. Especially now." Wayne let out a steady exhale. "How about I tell you tomorrow? When the sun's up and we're on the move again."
"Promise?"
"Yes, I promise."
The redhead nodded before turning her sharp gaze to Steve. "You'll sleep tonight?"
"Wh- oh, yeah, of course. I'm gonna take turns keeping watch tonight so that Mr. Munson can sleep too. You go lay with Erica, okay? I'll see you in the morning." She stared for a moment longer before moving to join the other kids, all fast asleep after another long day of walking.
Wayne sat in silence with the teenager, knowing it was time to extinguish the flames now that the last of the little ones were asleep, to be safe, as a precaution. But he was cold. The flames couldn't reach his core and fix the root of his problem, but they were helping for now. Only another minute or two, that was all he could risk, and even that wasn't reasonable. It wasn't the responsible thing to do.
"Mr. Munson-"
"Steve, please, call me Wayne." His voice came out choked, it surprised him, but he kept his gaze on the last flame that danced. He had gone too long now not hearing his own name. If he heard Mr. Munson one more time he was sure he'd shatter, break apart at the seams and fail all over again. "It's the only thing I want in return for helping. Understand me?"
The boy stared at him like he wasn't sure what to make of the man's words. "That's all?"
"Yeah, I already said I want to help you and the little ones out." Wayne forced himself to his feet. He couldn't keep sitting there, if he did he might never move again. And people were relying on him now. He left the safety zone so he could help some of the poor bastards that were still out here. The last thing he expected was to find a group of kids lead by one slightly older kid, but he was here now and he needed to protect them. No one else was going to do it. "Go peak on 'em, make sure they're asleep. I need to speak with you, just the two of us."
Steve nodded, staying silent as he moved toward where the kids slept. Wayne focused on his task, dumping dirt over the embers that remained and ensuring that all the glowing pieces were covered. He pulled the flashlight form his side, aiming it at the ground before turning it on. He never liked the dark, but it was worse now than ever before. Every twig that snapped or leaf that rustled made the hair on his neck stand on end. Monsters lurked in the shadows and they weren't just zombies.
"They're asleep." Steve spoke from behind him, and Wayne bit the inside of his cheek to keep from reacting.
"Good. Don't need them overhearing, just in case." Wayne took a seat again, pulled his jacket tighter around his shoulders in a vain attempt to keep warm. "You say you're fifteen?"
"Yes." His response was clipped.
Wayne hummed, looking at the beam of light on the ground. "I take it you never learned to drive before all this mess, did you?" He looked back up, finally meeting the boy's gaze.
Steve blinked like this was the last thing he expected to hear. "What?"
"Legal age to start driving was fifteen in Indiana, if you took that damn driving class and you mentioned that you were from Indiana. Though, something tells me with the end of the world you never got the chance to learn."
"Um, well... my mom was teaching me to drive in our old neighborhood. I - I haven't had a lot of practice. But I know how to drive a little bit."
"Well, some experience is better than none. I assume you learned on an automatic?"
"Yes." Steve answered, eyebrows knit and eyes narrowed.
"Guess I'll have to teach you to drive stick, then. That's if you wanna learn. I'm not gonna force you to do anything you don't want to. We'll just be able to cover more ground if we have two people who can drive. I'll allow us to cut out some risks, being able to stay on the move. Traveling on foot would be safer if there weren't so many little ones. We can't cover enough ground everyday with them, not at the rate we're moving now and they'll just keep getting more tired the longer we're out here. A car does open us up to some new threats, but I think they're worth taking. Our best chance of getting to the safety zone, all things considered, is by car. What do you think, Steve?"
Steve stared over at him, mouth slightly agape. "I- I um... I-"
"Steve, are you alright?" If it were daylight or the fire was still burning Wayne might have noticed the way his shoulders shook as he tried to force rhythm back into his breathing. "Shit."
"I- I'm alright sir, I swear!" He sounded far from it, he was crying for Christ's sake.
"Don't pretend to be okay when you ain't, it's bad for you." Maybe someday he'd listen to his own advice.
Wayne kept the beam of light aimed at the ground, giving Steve what little privacy he could spare. "I know its a lot to ask of you. And I'm sorry to put so much responsibility on you, but you're the closest thing to another adult I got right now."
“No. That’s not it. I can help. I want to help.” Steve sniffled, wiping his face on the sleeve of his sweater. “I- I’m sorry. I just… I have to keep them safe, Wayne. They’ve been looking up at me for answers for weeks now, and I have no idea what I’m doing. We were going to die out here until you stumbled upon us and they’re just so young, Erica is barely six, Wayne. They’re still babies.”
“You got that right.” He placed a tentative hand on the boy’s shoulder. “We can do this, Steve. I know it seems like the odds are stacked against us, and maybe they are, but that ain't gonna stop us.” He took a slow breath in, forcing his voice to stay even. “I made a promise to someone I lost that I am gonna help as many people as I can. I might have only stumbled upon your group by accident but we’re here now. Our paths have crossed. And we’re going to get to the safety zone, all of us. You hear me?” Wayne squeezed his shoulder, and Steve met his gaze, giving a sure nod even as tears still ran down cheeks. “You need a minute?”
“No, I’m alright.” He swallowed hard. “Do you have a car? Or do we like, steal something?”
“With a little luck I’ll still have a car. If something has happened I fully plan on stealing something. You think you can live with that, kid?”
Steve’s nod was immediate. Maybe it was bad luck to acknowledge it, but Wayne could feel it in his chest. They were going to be okay.
End A/N: To be honest, I want to upload it to AO3 at some point but am in the middle of writing several other works. I know myself well enough to know that I am going to keep writing this in bite sized pieces that I'll probably just keep uploading here all linked together for now. :)
I would love any thoughts, opinions, general vibes or just a nice conversation! My inbox is always open!!!
Oh my god!!! That Steve/baby sister fic!!! If you ever want to build it out more I’d be obsessed (ie the party + extended party’s reactions, hop + Joyce and how everyone pitches in)
╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯ awwww anon!!!!!
Honestly I have been thinking about it and I know I put in the tags of the original post, buuuut. Robin called Steve Bud or Buddy which morphed into Bubba when they are being particularly soft with each other, and the baby (who I am possibly leaning towards calling Tina so her nickname can be Tintin because it's cute idk) picks up on it so calls Steve her Bubba. Also because "he's my big brother" can sort of become "he's my Bubba!" If words are smushed together by baby babble
But before all that, Steve (who walked to work that day because he didn't have a baby car seat yet and wasn't going to leave his baby sister whom he always wanted and loves so dearly already ALONE or worse. With their FATHER.) goes to, of all people, Mrs. Wheeler for help. He'd go to Joyce but she's working and Karen Wheeler has the youngest kid he knows so is the best bet for maybe getting some tips and also maybe a carrier because the bjorn isn't going to cut it for long. So he goes and Mr. Wheeler immediately thinks Steve's Accidental Baby Acquisition is due to Steve's own recklessness. (Steve is a prolific lover, sure, but he's smart and safe about it! When he was thirteen his dad sat him down for a talk about not wanting the disgrace of a shotgun wedding and his grandpa gave him a run down of venereal diseases he saw (didn't mention having but. Well.) His pals have in WWII that put the fear of God in him regarding unsafe sex. Moreso than the potential babies. So. He's always very careful. For this very reason!! Except apparently his dad didn't use his own advice but Steve isn't complaining because, once again, he always wanted a little sibling.)
Anyways the wheelers are like ohhhh a Harrington Scandal not involving the boy our daughter dated? Okay sure here's Holly's old baby carseat. Hopper is just. He's like. I thought Steve and that kid I kept giving warnings to about selling dope to were a thing and Steve is like "will people stop assuming she's mine!! I know I am a bit of a slut but I am terrified of chlamydia!!! And even if this WAS my fault (which it is not and also she's a gift I love you little baby sister you're the light of my life) I am taking responsibility for it so maybe we all need to be a little less judgy hmmm??"
Joyce and Karen give him some hand me down baby clothes and books, some good tips about feeding and burping and things like that, and Claudia and Sue offer to come passive aggressively congratulate Steve's dad.
Dustin is a little jealous because this Steve Time is going to be encroached upon by This Literal Infant but Steve is like Dustin... you are my Little Brother... My silly pal...Now you have a sister too!! 🥰 And Dustin is like Oh Shit That's Right and proceeds to try to teach this Literal Infant, it cannot be stressed enough that she is a few months old and cannot stay sitting up by herself, how to build a radio.
Eddie is just trying to not have a heart attack from the concentration of Pure Longing activated by seeing Steve With A Baby and has also been forbidden from playing anything loud near them. He is fine and deals with this by writing ballads that make Gareth gag from their sweetness and Jeff have a very knowingly indulgent look when he sees the lyrics. But Gareth lets he hit his drums with he baby hands and Jeff pretends she stole his nose so they aren't that put out by it.
El is Fascinated by the tiny human and asks lots of questions and wants to play with her, give her experiences of softness and kindness right off the bat she knew she herself was denied, so she's often the official baby holder when Steve needs to do something when the Party is around.
The rest of the party is pretty meh on the baby. Sure it's exciting at first but she just kinda becomes part of regular life. They take turns doing actual babysitting for Steve so he can work or run errands or even, gasp, have some normal early adult fun times, but it's all pretty regular. Erica is glad she's not the party baby anymore.
They do however probably secretly fight over who gets to be baby's godparent. Steve isn't allowed to know.
Older Brother Steve / Teacher Eddie
Sometimes you need to just write the fanfiction you want to read yourself... Please enjoy the below- it has not been edited in anyway and should probably not exist.
-------------------------
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington wasn’t a jealous man, he didn’t have the time to be jealous most of the time.
He was a single parent to his younger brother, Dustin, and had to work two jobs to keep the lights.
So he wasn’t the jealous type.
Not jealous at all that Dustin has been coming home every day ranting and raving about his new teacher, who was just the coolest guy ever and was so awesome you wouldn’t understand Steve!
He wasn’t so jealous that he went to drop Dustin off at school himself one day just to see what this guy looked like and size him up a little. Because for the last three years he had been the coolest guy in his brother's life, and he wasn’t ready for some teaching little nerd to take him place.
‘Which is completely rational and exactly the type of thing a normal person would do.” Robin had said over the phone the night before when he had asked her to open the video shop that morning.
“It is rational, Dustin is at an impressionable age-” Robin scoffed and laughed, “Don’t you dare laugh at me, I am a single father and I am making sure the people who my brother interacts with are appropriate.”
“Right… and you didn’t rehearse that answer in the mirror all day because you knew I would call you cray-cray.”
“I’m hanging up now!”
“Tell Mr Munson I say hello!” she sang down the line as Steve slammed the receiver back into its cradle.
That's how he found himself leaning against his car at 8am on a Monday staring at the high school he had once attended. Dustin was glaring at him and groaning that he couldn't believe he was coming to his class.
“I don’t get why you have to come inside!” he whined as he pulled his backpack from the boot.
“Because I need to have a word with your teacher.”
“Why?”
“Because…”
“God you are so lame! Remember when you were cool?”
The words stung a little, of course Steve remembers when he was cool. He had been the captain of the basketball team, captain of the swim team and the guy girls dumped their boyfriends for, even if it was just to have a quickie in the back seat of the car he had to sell to pay for his parents funeral.
“Yeah, whatever, I'm lame now. Doesn’t mean I am not going in there to find out how you are going.”
Dustin rolled his eyes and walked towards the school.
Steve followed, watching as the other parents stared openly at him, it wasn’t the first time he had dropped his little brother off at school, he had been doing it for three years, but it didn’t mean the young mothers didn’t love to stare. He knew he didn’t fit in with his ripped jeans and the flannel that covered his work shirt but he hadn’t ever cared about that because he had the hair, the car and the reputation to withstand anything.
Now he only had the hair, and after looking after Dustin full time, he was very worried he would lose that too.
Dustin was much further ahead now and was making a big show of complaining to his friends that his brother was being lame.
Which made Steve smile a little, when their parents had died in a car crash during his senior year, he had been worried Dustin wouldn’t ever recover, he had thrown himself into his dungeons and dragons game and living in the fantasy worlds he created. But in the last few months he had been a lot more vocal about other things and hanging out with more than just Mike who Steve couldn’t help but think was a bad influence on his brother.
“Hi buddy can I help you?” A hand tapped his shoulder and Steve recoiled and turned ready to snap at whoever it was.
But the words got lost in his throat as he took them in, shoulder length messy hair with a fringe that definitely shouldn’t work, bright rings on each finger and a rock band shirt stretched over an obviously muscular body.
“Um..” he muttered just opening staring now.
“You okay?” the stranger said, waving a hand in front of his face.
“I’m Dustin- Steve- I’m Steve.” he couldn’t believe how bad he was at speaking right now, he wanted to slap himself as the stranger just looked more and more concerned.
Thankfully Dustin came bounding up before Steve could say anything else and was about to rescue him until he didn’t stop at Steve's side but bounded up to the Metal Head Stranger and did the most elaborate high five he had ever seen.
“Mr Munson, this is my brother Steve. He’s being lame and wants to speak to you.”
Mr Munson looked up from Dustin and gave Steve the biggest lopsided grin.
“Hi Steve, you can call me Eddie.”
totally not rewatching star wars and taking notes on jokes Steve and Dustin would make. definitely not writing down comments they'd make and how they'd relate themselves to characters.
Dustin definitely doesn't read out subtitles to Steve while he has a concussion and struggles with words on a screen. And he definitely didn't pick up saying 'buddy' because Han does
And im absolutely not noticing more and more parallels between Steve and han and starcourt and leia and robin (not romantic stobin but like shes so sassy in the beginning and and her bitching matches with Han are so fun)
