Art references my beloathed
Tumblr media
srsly like I love drawing but when I try to use a reference or two like look at them and draw with them nearby it always ruins my art because it makes it look weird and stiff compared to the loosey goosey art i like to make. the anatomy looks "correct" but that's not my style and it doesn't BLEND with the silly proportions and with the exagerated motions i want and the lack of elbows. it looks like a frankenstein of normal "looks human" art and my doodley crazy art. i hate it. i usually look at photos BEFORE i draw for inspo and stuff instead of while i'm doing it because of this. my brain wants to replicate what it's seeing SO BAD that stylizing it properly is almost impossible. :(

i have a lukewarm take for the color debate. grey is actually the worst tert color to get, because its like "yeah..its not bad it just...doesnt look good on this saffron/sapphire i just hatched which would be perfectly fine if it was black or white" (made up hatch btw)
even for a lot of less saturated colors like browns and yellows then it just blends into most of it and makes it muddy. coal and lead my beloatheds.

QUAN!! forgive me for my sins omg, i completely forgot i hadn’t answered this 😭😭
2: A creation that came out completely different to what you had first pictured in your mind? i honestly didn’t know where i was going when i made this sarawatine edit. Usually I’ll plan out the entire gifset beforehand, but my only goal with this one was to relearn blending, so I just created the rest of the gifs around the second gif.
7: What is something you want to develop in your future creations? I really want to learn how to video edit 😭 thats the ultimate goal. giffing wise, id love to learn different text and blending effects.
10: An old creation that will always have a special place in your heart? my coliver sets are my children ♥ especially this one and this one. And this spn set .
25: Do you use PSDs or colour everything by scratch? I have basic psds for light and dark scenes for every show i create for, and then i’ll tweak them to fit the scene. I use them if im feeling lazy, of it’s for a basic gifset. But most of the time I like doing it from scratch; coloring is my favourite thing about giffing, and it’s just so relaxing.
47: What advice would you give to someone who’s just started creating? Create stuff for yourself, first and foremost. It’s so easy to get caught into the thrill of racking up a lot of notes, but that shouldn’t be the goal because it’s so easy to get discouraged. There’s a bunch of resource blogs that have a wide range of tutorials to help. And just take it slowly and learn at your own pace, and just have fun? ♥ thats the most important thing.
aww bestie, that screenshot of our beloathed abhorrent behated, i could just 🥺🥺 poison him 🥺🥺 anyway, patrick loml

what’s up guys it’s me ya girl with a head cold
since i feel like death it’s time for my least favorite tea in the whole world- lemon ginger
we’re doing the twinnings version of my beloathed today
(this is normally where i’d put pictures but i’m too tired today all apologies)
why do i hate lemon ginger tea? mostly because i’m such a picky bitch about lemon in drinks- it gets undrinkable SO quickly for me
however, i’m a fucking adult and know that it is good and useful when you’re feeling poorly, so here i am. suffering
in terms of lemon ginger blends, i dislike twinnings the least of the ones i have had, since it tends to be milder with both the lemon AND the ginger
the citrus really comes through but is not overwhelming, and the ginger is a lil nippy rather than biting. i think it’s well balanced but obviously take my opinion on this one with several large grains of salt- my husband is a ginger fiend and wishes there was more of it present here
anyway, this is a solid dependable guy here to save the day even though you’ve never enjoyed his company. will bring you the best healing soup but rearrange your kitchen in a way you don’t like. kinda pushy but you know he means well.
just don’t drink it iced

So I got around to watching the sleepover vod and something kind of struck me as it was going on.
Tommy looks older. Like he grew into his features.
And I mean this next statement purely as an artist: he’s getting REALLY attractive.
I’ve had sketching on the brain since the face reveal video so I was paying close attention to everyone’s faces (Ranboo’s hair has gotten so long I really like it) and I just noticed a lot of the… obtuse bits of Tommy’s face have begun to smooth out and blend together.
Like he’s still very much Tommy (and he still has that lovely nose I’ve been trying to sketch in profile for months without getting anything worth posting. Profile shots my beloathed) but I can see the man growing out of that boy and he’s Wilbur’s protégé in more ways than one.
To the younger and/or not aspec fans, I’m sorry and good luck.

"ah, i'm so sorry!" you yell and slam the door shut, the glass clutched in your hands threatening to tip over and spill over you. your hands are quivering, and your heart is racing at a million miles per hour while your brain tries to process what just happened. you had just wanted to pass KAZUHA a drink, the new blend of coffee you had been experimenting with and he had agreed to taste. but then, after knocking on his room door and receiving no answer, you had decided to let yourself in anyway - the two of you had been friends for ages, what was there to hide anyway? that was what you thought two seconds ago, but apparently the answer was himself; you had accidentally walked in on him changing!
archons, this is so embarrassing, he probably thinks you're some kind of creepy pervert. you bury your face in your hands, but your traitorous mind keeps flashing back to the sight of KAZUHA's bare back. his muscles had been rippling slightly as he stretched in front of the mirror, one hand reaching for his shirt, which had been unceremoniously tossed onto his chair. a small constellation of freckles dotted his left shoulder, and you briefly wonder what it would be like to trail kisses across that mark before scolding yourself for having such thoughts. if that wasn't bad enough, your imagination begins wandering to what KAZUHA's back would look like with angry red scratches tracing down it, the aftermath of a night filled with passion. that's even worse! now you can't get all sorts of unholy images to be erased from your mind, and your face is so hot you think you're about to explode.
thankfully, at that exact moment, KAZUHA opens the door, a smile gracing his expression when he notices you still standing there. the tuft of red hair you've daydreamed about running your fingers through falls in front of his eyes, a sharp contrast to the rest of his snow white hair, and you fight the urge not to tuck it away behind his ear. "oh, is that the coffee you told me about?" your roommate asks coolly, as if nothing had happened. not trusting yourself to formulate a coherent reply, you nod. as he takes the glass from you, a playful smirk dances across his lips, "did you like what you saw?" "what?!" heat rushes to your face, and you're sure your jaw is on the floor. "don't think it was free though," KAZUHA pretends to frown, before leaning forward and planting his lips on yours. you're pretty sure you're the epitome of that one emoji with the brain exploding. yup, your system is completely fried from KAZUHA's kiss - how are his lips so soft?!
when he pulls away, he looks at you, chuckling at your surprised expression before winking, "don't worry, i accept payments in kisses." he darts into his room for a second before coming back and pressing a small chocolate into your hand; a hershey's kiss. "and here's yours! we should do this again sometime," KAZUHA grins before slipping back into his room, as if he didn't just steal your breath with the best kiss you've ever had, and then proceed to be audacious enough to give you a chocolate to tease you. you shake your head aggressively, trying to clear your thoughts, an unsurprisingly difficult endeavour, when all your head is filled with are thoughts of KAZUHA's lips against yours - are you really falling for your roommate? as you ponder opening the door again just to ask if KAZUHA can kiss once more, you think that the answer is a resounding yes.

A Collection of Headcanons About the Reach
(version 2, because tumblr my beloathed deleted the entire fucking post when i tried to post it the first time gdi) @reachfolk come get your bread
putting this under a read more because it is Long oof
Medical Practices and Healing
The Reachfolk have the most advanced nonmagical healing techniques of their contemporaries, which they teach to anyone who wishes to learn, as magical healers are always targeted during wars.
Any Reachman knows to boil water before drinking, because casting a detect life spell at un-boiled water always turns up something.
Surgical thread made of catgut or linen is soaked in alcohol or vinegar before using to ensure cleanliness.
Sewing needles are made of rib bone or antler, because the curved bone makes it easier to stitch skin than a straight needle.
If it is necessary to reuse surgical thread, it is always boiled in a water and alcohol solution to make sure there is no foreign blood or detritus on the thread before sewing someone else up.
Bathing is important, and done as often as circumstances allow.
Surgical blades are often shaped differently than cookware or daggers to avoid any mixing of which blade to use, and are stored in small clay jars filled with wound care alcohol.
The alcohol used for wound care is made from potatoes and distilled at least twice. This alcohol is strictly not for drinking. (basically a type of vodka)
Washing hands between patients is extremely important, or at the very least scrubbing one’s hands with a washcloth soaked in wound care alcohol if the water is not clean or readily available.
A first aid kit, filled with surgical thread of linen or catgut, a jar of wound care alcohol, bandages, bruise paste, burn salve, surgical needles and blades, and thin metal rods of various size for splinting broken bones is an important (meticulously kept) part of any Reach warrior’s equipment.
The Reachfolk know what CPR is, and how and when to use it. It’s generally known as “life’s breath” or “assisted breathing”, and has saved the lives of many warriors whose hearts began to fail as a result of being struck with lightning magic. (This is also erroneously seen as a form of necromancy by outsiders, which baffles the Reach because necromancy is very obvious when it’s being used, and doesn’t heal anything.)
Reachfolk healers are always taught the nonmagical healing methods first, to both help them better understand human anatomy and to ensure they know what to do if and when their magic fails.
The Reachfolk also practice blood transfusion, and have invented a spell to check if the potential donor’s blood is compatible with the person who will be receiving it. The equipment for a blood transfusion is simple: a thin horseshoe-shaped copper tube with hollow bone needles affixed to both ends for direct transfusion. Some southern-Reach-dwelling clans have begun experimenting with the use of frost-enchanted waterskins for the storing of blood over long distances, but it will be some time before this long-term storage method is perfected and introduced to the Reach as a whole.
Textiles
The Reachfolk use mainly wool and cotton in their clothes, with leather and furs for cloaks and armor. Linen is only used for undergarments, menstrual cloths, and surgical thread, as it is too breathable of a fabric to be useful in the often-cold, mountainous Reach.
Reach-made wool is prized for its softness and warmth, because they blend lamb’s wool with rabbit hair from rabbits specially bred for exquisitely soft fur. Reachfolk wool is often soaked with vinegar during the dyeing process as well, making it even more soft.
Dyes made in the Reach often reflect their surroundings: soft grays, warm browns, greens, and pale yellows are most common, with black, dark blue, purple, and bright orange being rare. A gray-blue dye was formerly used by Reachfolk devoted to Kyne, though this has understandably fallen out of favor after the sacking of Markarth and Karthwasten.
Nettles are used to make an olive-green dye, goldenrod for a wide variety of browns, alder bark treated with iron for black and dark gray, nightshade and cabbage make a plummy red-purple, beets for a rare dusky pink, onion skins treated with iron or copper make an interesting mustard-green, blackberry leaves for soft gray. Modifiers, used to treat a color and ensure it doesn’t wash out, as well as alter the color profile, used in the Reach include: iron, copper, vinegar, dwemer metal, and salt. Copper and dwemer metal brighten yellows, oranges, reds, and greens. Vinegar and salt bring out purples and reds. Iron “saddens” a color by bringing out deeper cool tones. (Fun cursed fact: you can in fact use urine to modify fabric dye! Apparently it’s used to strip unwanted color from wool or cotton yarn. Wild.)
Enchantments for clothing and armor are woven into the clothing as it’s made, and as such are more powerful and longer lasting than anything you can get with an enchanter’s table.
Armor enchantments are fairly easy to replace; the armorer just removes the top layer of leather and shapes new leather to fit while adding the desired enchantment before stitching the new piece into the armor.
Common enchantments for clothes are weatherproofing; waterproof boots, gloves and hoods, frost-resistant cloaks, and mold-resistant shirts and trousers are a must in the Reach. Undergarments and menstrual cloths are given a gentle odor-removing enchantment, as well as enchantments to stave off irritation and infection of one’s delicates.
If an enchantment on an article of clothing needs to be renewed, a quick fix is embroidering a spell in the Reachfolk language into a seam.
Gaining the ability to make and enchant one’s own clothes is an important milestone for young Reach children to attain.
Water-resistant beaver fur is often used for lining boots and gloves. Deer, bear, and wolf fur is used in cloaks and hoods. Rabbit’s fur is used for children’s clothing as it’s very soft and warm (and unlikely to cause discomfort or itchiness on sensitive skin). Fox fur is used most often by priests or shamans in winter months. Furs that aren’t mixed with wool or cotton are often left undyed, because the Reachfolk consider it disrespectful to the animal to change the color of their natural camouflage.
Diet and Cuisine
Foods eaten in the Reach depend heavily on their surroundings, and as much of the animal is used that can be.
Beaver is a common meat, as well as venison. Beaver fat is rendered for use in making candles, cooking, and is mixed with dried meat and beech nuts to make travel rations.
Fish is also a staple meat to find at a Reachman’s table, and is often dried with salt into tasty, crunchy “chips” to eat on the road. The smallest fish are dried and eaten whole, bones and all. Dried fish is sometimes added to soups, as well.
Sweets are made with honey or beet sugar, and a treat for children is acorn flatbread soaked in honey. Beet sugar candies are most often seen on holy days. Throat lozenges made with honey and mint are used as medicine for dry throats or when someone can’t keep food down.
Bread is made with barley, acorns, and pine nuts, to make a loaf rich in nutrients with a distinct nutty flavor. (It does tend to be quite dense, however, which can be off-putting for those used to lighter fare.)
Goat cheese and goat’s milk is a part of most breakfasts in the Reach, and soft goat cheese spread on toasted barley bread drizzled with honey is a nice lighter meal for the early morning.
As far as alcohol goes, there’s ale made from barley for everyday drinks, a pale wine made from apples and snowberries liberally sweetened with honey and spiced with clove is drunk during celebrations, and a stiff dark beer thickened with roasted barley is for the chilly winter months.
Greens and vegetables found in the Reachfolk diet include: dandelion, blackberry leaves, thistle, onions, garlic, leeks, the occasional turnip, parsnips, nettle, birch nuts, potatoes, and radishes and their greens.
Willowbark, the inner bark of pine trees, and nettle are all used to make tea for colds or chest infections.
Inner pine bark can also be stripped from trees and eaten as is, though it’s more of a “there’s literally nothing else around” type of food. It is rich in fiber, however, which is why it’s used in medicinal teas by the Reachfolk.
Wheat is sometimes grown by southern-Reach-dwelling clans, though it’s mostly an export crop that they sell to merchants, as the Reachfolk don’t feel it gives as much energy as their own barley grains. (This is actually true, wheat is not as nutritious as barley is. The more you know.)
You will never find a Reachman buying cane sugar from Elsweyr. That stuff is expensive, they have honey, and the pure sweetness without any other flavor is jarring to their palates.
Preserves are made from snowberries, blackberries, apples, and cherries. Jazbay grapes are only rarely used, as the resulting jam tends to be quite runny. Spiced peach preserves are enjoyed in the southern Reach, and often traded quite valuably with their northern brethren.
Small hand pies made with preserves folded into a square of potato bread dough and fried are a rare treat eaten on new year days, and are an especial favorite of those devoted to Sanguine.
The Reachfolk do not often eat wild birds, as most of them are simply too small to warrant hunting for them, though hens are kept for their eggs and meat. Some Reachmen consider it sacrilege to eat crows, vultures, or other carrion birds, as these birds are seen as sacred to Nocturnal or Namira, depending on who you ask. Waterfowl such as ducks are eaten occasionally in the southern Reach. Owls will never be consumed by any member of a Reachfolk clan, as owls are sacred to the gods of the forest and used in augury, and they are rather bony birds that don’t have good flavor in any case.
A winter staple in the Reach is a rich nutrient-dense soup, made of bone stock with a barley and potato base, whatever meat is at hand, parsnips, leek, and various spices, for a hearty soup that warms you right down to your bones (and sticks to them, lol).
Boar are raised in more permanent settlements, and thin-sliced boar meat is stuffed into a split barley roll with greens to make a sandwich.
Nomadic clans have been known to raise skeevers for meat, and wrap seared chunks of skeever in potato flatbread smeared with goat cheese.
Nut butter made of beech nuts is often given to children, or eaten by people with missing teeth, as it’s a smooth protein-rich butter that’s easy to get down.
Honey caramelized with goat butter, and mixed with nuts and dried blackberries, then left to harden and broken into pieces, is known as “Sanguine’s tree bark” and is a favorite sweet of children and adults alike.
For those who follow Namira, sausage made from human meat and seasoned heavily with sage is a staple of their diet. Liver, lung, and heart are all organs consumed by Namira devotees. Ribs are basted in honey and spices and slow roasted over a fire for fall-off-the-bone tenderness. Namira devotees also collect the bones from their meals to give to Reachfolk necromancers, so there is always a steady supply of material for a necromancer to work with.
Reachfolk food is calorie-rich and a great deal of it is portable, a necessity for people who both dwell in mountainous areas and who have to be ready to fight at a moment’s notice.

For the people who wanted my ages-long 3adv character design thoughts because I think about these guys wayyy too much I'll talk about each character individually and then slowly put my comparison/merged thoughts together (I'll put it all under the cut! I warn you, it's looong)
- For context, I like color theory. I like analyzing colors and their meanings, and I know basic things about contrast and values and hue stuff - that being said... - Graham coloring process my beloathed :,) I love the guy with all my heart but my goodness the colors - I'm constantly changing them because I struggle with the contrast so much - (to the point I actually changed the colors in the current piece I'm working on. The ref is already outdated lmaooooo) - it looks nice but all the colors blend together and it makes me mad lmao wHY ARE ALL HIS COLORS CLOSE TOGETHER- - - ...does anybody else have this problem or am I overreacting - - ...anyways rant over - for the fun stuff I love, shape language! And especially figuring out face shapes. - Graham is very circles. Rounded lad! Shaped like a friend. A lot of his angles I rounded out (including the ones for his eyes which I'll get to later) - but he's also made of rectangles! Especially in his cape, which I feel sorta balances him out with how lanky and top-heavy he is. - Graham has a very limited amount of triangles, to keep his design easier to read, but with the triangles he does have they're put to use! - Case in point: adventuring cap - Which, in addition to being an important part of his character, is symbolic shape-wise! Oops, all triangles! (while the feather is rounded because friend shaped) specifically grounded triangles. - Grounded triangles symbolize being... well, grounded! It's like being a square, having the base rest on the ground, but with the action and adventure of a triangle! - You see where I'm going with this? - It also stands out since it's a cool color among mainly warm colors! The blue helps separate all the warm reds and browns. - Talking about the hat color reminds me about that little convo I had with some friends on how the cape is very deep and saturated while everything else is desaturated (so the cape stands out) - His cap, with how it's tilted, kinda reminds me of like... Cars? And how the air sorta flows over it? - I gave him some more rounded off sorta saggy shoulders, a longer torso, and a bit of a narrower torso width because it makes him feel a slight bit younger.
- Link lonk - I don't have as many thoughts on his design as I would have liked, but he's mostly more of a blank slate sorta character that encompasses most versions of Link? Key points were to include all the iconic parts of his surface-level design (green, hat, blond) and sorta work from there. - I'm a very big fan of 3adv link tho! Has a very nice personality to explore. Protective hero! - Link is heavily triangles. From his hat to his stance, he is very action-oriented and very sharp n pointy. - He is mainly rectangles & triangles! Imbalanced triangles are a bit more top-heavy and often jump headfirst into things (Say a... pit, for example) while balanced triangles are grounded and reasonable. - Link gets both, as a treat. :) - His color palette is very foresty and the dark blue contrasts quite well! - I was actually contemplating making his scarf one of the only main rounded parts of his design because friendship scarf, but I got scared it wouldn't blend well with the rest of the design lol, so it's got more angles like I usually do with folds. - I'm a very big fan of playing around with body types, even if I don't do it often. Link has a more confident stance, with a bit more muscle than the other two - With Link's eyes I'm not actually sure why I chose the semi-cat eyes? Maybe cuz they seem a bit more focused. - I actually did a 3adv drawing before this with the lads as Cookie Run Kingdom designs, and I really liked the idea that Link's hair was herbal leaves, so I kinda incorporated that idea to the shape design with the hair
- Guybrush Wheatstick time - Guy is very rectangles but not super rectangles? I wanted to balance it out with triangles because he's a playful sorta guy. Tried rounding out a lot of his angles but not exactly all of them. - To balance the rectangles and triangles I decided on a compromise: Trapezoids! - His body type is the sorta upsidedown trapezoid/triangle type but under the clothes he has slightly slanted shoulders! His coat makes him look a lot sharper and confident, which I love in character design. - I really like the baggy clothes lmao - I think I made his hair more wavy than he actually is in-game lmaoo - Which fits in with the fact I wanted to continue that sorta playful squiggle motif. He's less serious, but he's angled and square! Also feels more pirate-y - In terms of eyes, I continue the rectangle/trapezoid thing again. These eyes are actually harder to draw traditionally lmaoo but that's cuz they're tilted at a slight angle. Makes it easier to do perspective tho(?) - I like Guy's palette a lot, I think the only thing I struggle with is the hair tie's color because it looks weird to me but it's the same sorta red as the coat lmao? - and the darkness of the belt because I wanted it to contrast the rest of the outfit lol - I just like the fact Guy's ears are wider/placed differently - They all have a different shape that they're based around (Graham is circles, Link is triangles, Guybrush is rectangles) but they share bits of eachothers' shapes to show they're part of a group! - Additionally they share similar colors to show they're part of a group (Reds and blues, buncha blue-eyed bois) - Occasionally I'll go through a crisis of like "damn this character is too similar to this other character's design" and then I realized I was overthinking things and literally nobody is gonna confuse Alexander to Link Anyways that's thoughts! Or at least the ones I think of off the top of my head.
