Bringing Sustainable Light to Off-Grid Villages: Sitio Pamalihi, Cagayan De Oro City
Team 9 - a mission driven organization that provides clean and sustainable energy solutions to underserved rural communities.
Blog #3 - March 3, 2025
In the heart of rural Philippines, millions of families grapple with the harsh reality of energy poverty, where the absence of reliable electricity casts a shadow over their daily lives. Team 9 has embarked on a visionary mission to bring about transformative change by addressing this critical issue through innovative and affordable renewable energy solutions.
Tumblr media
During extensive field research, our team discovered the profound challenges faced by families like Maria's in Cagayan de Oro City. Lack of access to reliable lighting after sunset has a cascading effect on education, household tasks, and the safety of women navigating the darkness. Traditional solutions like dangerous kerosene lamps and candles not only pose fire risks but also contribute to health hazards.
Team 9 envisions a brighter future for these communities through the implementation of solar home lighting systems and solar-powered street lamps. Our affordable solar home lighting systems will provide up to 6 hours of bright light after a day's charge, catering to essential activities such as children's study time, evening household work, and livelihood activities. Additionally, these systems will feature mobile charging capabilities, further enhancing their practicality. For community areas, our plan includes the installation of solar-powered street lamps. These lamps will illuminate roads and common spaces, significantly enhancing nighttime safety and fostering evening social gatherings.
Recognizing the economic challenges faced by rural families, Team 9 is committed to making these renewable energy solutions accessible. By collaborating with microfinance partners, we aim to provide financing plans that align with the financial capabilities of these communities, ensuring affordability without compromising the quality and impact of our products.
Our user research uncovered crucial insights – rural customers prioritize very bright light over dimmer alternatives for longer durations. The lighting must effectively support key activities such as studies and income-generating work. Moreover, there is a substantial unmet need for outdoor lighting to illuminate village roads and paths, enhancing overall safety and community life.
Tumblr media
Team 9 is not merely offering a product; we are presenting a comprehensive solution tailored to the unique needs of off-grid communities in the Philippines. By designing renewable energy products that prioritize brightness, endurance, and versatility, we are poised to revolutionize how these communities access and utilize light.
Join us in our mission to bring sustainable illumination to those living in darkness, as we work towards realizing Goal 7 of the Global Goals – ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Together, let's empower the Philippines and uplift these communities out of the shadows of energy poverty.

The Evolution of Crowdsourcing: Intelligence for innovation and content creation.
Introduction
The digital landscape of our current age of technology has introduced many transformation and evolution that has helped society to move forward, gain financial assistance, and more. Decentralized network has reshaped the way information is accessed throughout the net worldwide. We will discuss how crowdsourcing has evolved throughout the times in terms of crowdsourced information and content creation and the aspects that play a big role.
Tumblr media
What is crowdsourcing?
Crowdsourcing is a way of obtaining information, ideas, or content by inputs from a very large number of people via online platforms or other digital ways. This allows the maximum potential to gather and collect resources such as intelligence, and key pieces of information from various groups of people, hence the the word 'crowd' in crowdfunding. Crowdsourcing goes way back in the 18th century such as when the British government had invited people to develop a reliable method of calculating the longitude of a vessel while at sea with rewards of as much as 20, 000 pounds (Clickworker 2018). Another example of crowdsourcing in the age of the web is the introduction of Wikipedia. The birth of Wikipedia allows people who have access to the internet all over the world to edit and add information to the online encyclopedia which is Wikipedia and Wikipedia can be accessed by anyone or everyone as well. Furthermore, there is more than one type of crowdsourcing that is popularly used by communities such as open innovation and ideas, crowdfunding like starters, engagement, and charity such as "betterplace.org" and others.

Decentralized, centralized, and distributed networks (Why is it important)
Centralized Network
To put it simply centralized network is one in which a central authority controls the network. The authority may vary from an individual, a group of individuals, or even a corporation. centralized authority is the one that oversees all responsibilities and activities ongoing on their network. This also means that a centralized network, it consists of one server that handles and processes a whole lot of data as it is the one and only authority and main server. Central server usually contains a very large storage capacity and strong computing power thus they must have a very strong internet connection for high speed to handle a heavy number of users and data traffic(Deer 2022).
Decentralized Network
As opposed to a centralized network, a decentralized network does not operate on a central authority. There is no one main or single point of authority to command rather each individual user has equal capability and authority. One great example of the use of decentralization is the internet. As it is not commanded by a single authority and is used by many users. One advantage of a decentralized network is that in the case of one server failing, they can rely on another server to access data.
Distributed network
Both location and architecture can be referred to as distributed networks. Geographically distributed networks are common in digital-first businesses, with employees working remotely across the organization. There is no doubt that geographically distributed networks are becoming more prevalent. According to LiveAction (2022), distributed networks, like decentralized networks, provide more safety, stability, and scalability than centralized networks. Nonetheless, control is distributed evenly across each node, unlike decentralized networks that use clusters of smaller "centralized" servers.
How crowdsourcing is adopted in today's innovation.
Crowdsourcing plays a critical role in modern innovation, operating within the paradigms of centralized, decentralized, and distributed networks. Platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk efficiently manage tasks in a centralized model, channeling contributions through a controlled hub. Decentralized networks, such as blockchain-based systems, on the other hand, provide transparency and autonomy by allowing contributors to engage directly, eliminating intermediaries while ensuring traceability and trust. Furthermore, the rise of distributed networks, as seen in open-source software development or collaborative research initiatives, embodies a collective yet autonomous structure, allowing contributors from all over the world to seamlessly collaborate. Today's innovation landscape embraces these diverse models, leveraging centralized efficiency, decentralized transparency, and distributed collaboration to harness the vast potential of crowdsourcing, resulting in game-changing solutions across industries.
Conclusion
In conclusion, crowdsourcing has revolutionized the way people obtain information and connect with one another. The presence of a decentralized network leverages the means of crowdsourcing as the ability to gain access to the World Wide Web for crowdsourcing content means that society has integrated the digital way of crowdsourcing as an important medium. Things like citizen journals, crowdfunding, community-building, and others will have a huge impact. Centralized networks are those, especially of networking platform such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc, and are as crucial as they should be for crowdsourcing to curate content that are tailored to audiences.

genuinely a lot of you need to sit the fuck down and think about whether you actually support transfeminine people or you're just chasers. cause a lot of this site's support seems to be "uwu fuck me big strong dommy mommy" "I want a sexy trans goth gf so bad" etc etc and it's so gross. like i dont think attraction the inherent problem here or anything but when every single post asking "do you actually support trans women/transfeminine ppl?" has some chucklefuck in the notes going "haha yeah, I support her ON TOP OF ME!" it gets really obvious that you do not actually know how to support them without sexualizing them. and that's. really incredibly not okay.
