Perhaps I've been watching too much Star Trek Discovery.
What you're viewing is some of the largest exposed precambrian rock on the face of Earth. Say that ten times fast.
While researching the area I surprisingly discovered the appearance of the Canadian Shield is not so much a result of folding, faulting or compression of rock over millions of years, but rather the work of ice in recent geological time.
So cool.
Located just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Northern Red-legged Frogs are a fairly common sight in the coastal rainforests of British Columbia. Their numbers are hugely depressed from historic highs like so much of Canada's boreal wildlife, thanks mostly to unchecked deforestation and severe clear-cutting operations. I have more research to do and notes to add from my (USDA zone 3) garden, before I can pretty it up.

Evening Grosbeak This was a special year when Canada had good numbers in their provincial parks. I drove quite far but having American cranberry and crabapple perches made all the difference. The parks are devoid of these fruits in winter so when i put them on display the grosbeaks came right in. What a great experience with a life bird too.
