You had been able to tell by sound alone that Boris had had a rather long, arduous day. Heavy steps, paused just at the top of the stairway, clearly steeling himself for joining you in the apartment. He was tired, that was certain. You didn’t know what had happened, and until he decided to share something that he had done, you knew that you wouldn’t have a single idea.

He didn’t say much until you were both in your bedroom, his suit and vest open, but otherwise barely ready for bed.

It’d been your choice to turn on the soft music on the record player you’d moved into the room, some familiar song to you both, one that Boris had introduced you to years ago at this point.

He didn’t even register that you were walking up to him until your hand was on his chin, and those light brown eyes finally met yours.

“Boris…” You brushed your thumb over his cheek, a small smile at least forming on his lips.

“Hello, darling,” he said, that tired look still in his eyes.

“Let me help you,” you whispered, hand pulling from his face, only to move to his suit, thumbs under his lapels. He didn’t fight you, only allowed that smile to stay on his lips, head tilting back just the slightest bit to offer you more room.

Suit jacket off first, and then his vest, both hung up as they should be.

Boris didn’t even flinch as he felt your fingers at the collar of his shirt, slowly pulling the rare tie that he was currently sporting.

“Was it a rough day?” Boris’ head bobbed, a soft sigh falling again.

“I knew her, Mrs Cooke. When I was a lad, she’d sneak sweets to us kids.Everyone loved her.” The tie off, and you started on his shirt, pulling the buttons through their respective holes gently, helping him pull off the soft cotton.

“Did she get you out of your shell?”? He laughed at the small jab, before nodding.

“One of the few people who found their way through my chronic shyness.” Your laughs echoed together for a moment, and you weren’t able to stop leaning forward to kiss his collarbone for just a moment.

You pulled back to see Boris’ eyes closed, relishing in the feel of your lips against his skin.

His belt was next, and you couldn’t help let your fingers run over the little bit of skin of his love handles that had been revealed in helping undress him. A small touch, but you felt him relax just that little bit more.

His sleep clothes were found easily, well worn at this point, and familiar to you both.

“Stand up for me, love,” you said, coming back to him, and standing in front of him. Instead of taking the chance to change his pants, you instead took the step closer, and pressed your lips to his, hands moving to his waist.

Boris’ hands moved to your hips, relaxing into your touch nearly instantly, finally allowing him something else to focus on.

You took the moments to simply stand with Boris, allowing his hands to pull you just a little closer, his arms wrapping around you to keep you close.

When your kiss broke, Boris didn’t let the intimacy drift, his forehead pressing against yours, just allowing himself to take the pleasure for just a moment, the reassurance he so often was the one to give.

You took the moment to move your hand up to the back of his head, lightly scratching his scalp as he simply accepted the love from you.

You didn’t pull away until Boris did, that faint, sweet smile you’d fallen in love with on his lips. Your hand slipped from his scalp to his cheek once more, holding for just a second.

You didn’t let it last too long, taking the pants from the bed, and offering them to him.

“Next step, love.” That smile turned sheepish, and he pulled away just enough to change his pants, letting you take the shirt from the bed, next.

He pulled the undershirt he’d been wearing off, and you slipped the sleeves up his arms, smoothing the fabric on his shoulders. The buttons were quickly done up, and you pushed Boris’ shoulder.

“Lay down, let me change now.” You didn’t pull away fast enough, and his hand took yours, pulling your knuckles up to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to your skin.

“Thank you.” You squeezed his hand, before letting go, and taking your own turn to change.

Laying down on the bed, you didn’t hesitate to squirm up to Boris, your hand on his shoulder tugging him into your arms, and his face to your chest. He settled in after just a few moments, breathing in your scent as your fingers played with the hair at the nape of his neck.

After only a moment longer, you felt Fred jump up onto the bed, the soft pressure of his paws on your twined legs, a purr already starting.

“Looks like we’ve company for the night.” Your arm opened just enough for Fred to move under the limb, and lay down in the mess of you and Boris. “I love you, Boris.” You rubbed his shoulders for just a second, allowing the tension to leave.

“I love you, too.”

The speaker finally clicked off, leaving only the sound of your combined, relaxed breathing, and a purr that almost sounded like a car passing by.
