dazai can be hard to write for so dont beat urself up nonnie :< i feel like i only have an okay time doing it bc ive been daydreaming ab him for so long. when i struggle writing other characters, i usually go back to the manga / anime & try to observe anything i can ab the way they talk, etc. u can also read other fics & see what they do w the character that u think feels right !! obvi dont copy anyone, but incorporate those characteristics into ur version of the character

dont be afraid to use ur personal experiences !! i know x readers should generally appeal to a broad audience, but making it too “one size fits all” makes it a little boring. for me, domestic moments (like waking up together, cooking together), playing with each others hair, being physically affectionate, etc are all things i associate with romance. its fun to include things like that in my fics, even if they don’t necessarily appeal to everyone

lean into details !! im a rlly visual person & i picture things in my head while i write. in the past it was rlly hard for me to expand my ideas & i found myself skipping over the little details to keep the general plot going. ive been trying to get more descriptive & include those little things & i rlly think it helps make everything feel more immersive, even if its something that isnt necessarily important to the fic

proofread !! i reread my fics probably a little too much before i post them but sometimes i think of something i didnt before & it just helps shape the fic better. also, run ur fics thru something like grammarly before u post it !! i catch a lot of silly typos that way >:/

im still kinda learning how to write too, i must have the most disjointed writing process ever omg. but something thats helped me is not to take it too seriously bc this is all just for fun !! when u start to put pressure on urself, it becomes a chore & thats when i know i need a little break.

Ahhh hello there, anon, thank you so much! 🥺😭💕💖🥰 It’s such an honor to get a message like this from someone who is reading the fic. 💕🥺💖🥰💕🥺💖🥰 I’m so glad you liked Chapter 12; it definitely has one of my own personal favorite scenes, tbh (but I won’t take up your time talking about that right now lol). Having a fan base for Cherish is truly lovely; I’m so blessed by each and every one of you. 🥺💖

As for your question, I’m always happy to share!

Before I say anything at all on my opinion, though, I’m first going to make it clear that I am completely setting aside that one…particular matter that has been discussed to death by the fandom for the moment, because I fear far too many people tend to forget that it is entirely possible to make any remotely positive commentary on a fictional character without that actually somehow meaning you condone his alleged…preferences. For the people in the back that need to hear this out loud to be set at ease: I in absolutely no way do.

Now with that out of the way for a bit, let’s talk about the rest of Mori. I’ll throw it under the cut, though, both for length and for potential spoilers of multiple light novels (Dark Era, Fifteen, Storm Bringer, etc.) and obviously the manga up to his last appearance in current arc. Oh and obviously the typical Mori-related trigger subjects. Yeah.

Honestly, on a general note, these days I think Mori as a character is super cool; I’m not sure where precisely I’d rate him on the list of characters because I honestly like nearly every character in BSD and think they’re pretty awesomely written, but on a general scale of 1 to 10, he’s a very solid 8 or 9 for me.

My first introduction to him was…admittedly not at all the best possible representation of him.

When I first joined the fandom, I began my journey through the series by watching the anime adaption of Dark Era, at the behest of a dear friend who said I would be best off doing so before I watched the rest of the show (of which there were only two seasons at the time) and then reading the manga, in order to get the best and most meaningful experience; it is not something I remotely regret, and in honesty, I would probably wholeheartedly recommend any new people to do the same, if they intended to start with the anime. Regardless, though, this decision did have the impact of making me immediately strongly dislike Mori as a person from the very start, given what he did to the orphans, Oda, and Dazai by extension.

Really, I wouldn’t say that I came to see him in any particular shades of grey motivation-wise until I watched the episode titled Double Black, in which there was the first reference of what would have become of the Port Mafia and Yokohama as a whole had he not usurped the throne to the organization so many years ago.

After that, I began to look at him with a bit more understanding and curiosity, horrible and ruthless though his nature may still mostly have been. Fifteen (specifically the light novel, NOT the anime) — which it should be said, I think is the best existing canon representation of Mori in terms of giving us a good look at his thoughts and motivations — only amplified that outlook and interest for me, and I think it alone is largely to thank for why I enjoy him as a character as much as I do in current time.

Although he’s definitely not someone I’d feel particularly comfortable writing an entire story solely around — as I don’t believe I’m expert nor absurdly passionate enough to do so compared to some genuine Mori fans that I know are out there out there — I nevertheless really, really do enjoy writing him, especially in Cherish (which is only the second time I’ve written him, if I’m honest — at least, in anything I’d consider publishing, anyway).

There’s just so much potential in him plot and personality-wise; he is incredibly flexible of a person in terms of his thoughts, mannerisms, motivations, and actions, which makes it super fun to explore and play around with when telling a story. I’d say he easily has one of the most fun personalities among the BSD ensemble, purely because of utterly unpredictable it can be; on one hand, he has moments where (at least outwardly) is capable of being extremely friendly, outgoing, generous and unassuming, and yet on the other, he is very much always inwardly observant of all that is going on around him and capable of quickly switching to being cold, calculating, and openly cruel at the drop of a hat. But even then, usually, his cruelty doesn’t come in the form of physical violence; it’s often emotional manipulation, intimidation, taking your fears and weaknesses and using them against you to get him whatever he feels he needs in the present moment. Sometimes, it isn’t even outwardly visible that the switch of gears happened; he knows how to poison you in the sweetest and most unassuming yet effective way possible — whether that poison is literal or metaphorical. He’s definitely the kind of person who could sing you to sing to sleep every night and kiss your cheek every morning even as he’s secretly plotting your demise. lol

That being said, I think a lot of the fandom, in their hatred for him as a person, tends to mischaracterize him a lot, rather than looking at it objectively. I’ve seen a lot of fics and general fandom takes that portray him as a sadistic person who is cruel simply for the sake of being cruel and does terrible things to others purely for the enjoyment factor, but that is 100% not who Mori is; canonically, Mori does what he does mostly, if not entirely, out of what he feels is necessity as the leader of the organization. Now, I’m not saying there may not be parts of him that enjoy certain things he does — it’s certainly more than possible, and even highly probable — but his actions as godfather are driven by achieving what he feels is the optimal solution, not by personal pleasure and amusement; as a matter of fact, in Fifteen, he even made it clear when speaking to Chuuya that he fully acknowledges a lot of what he does is morally reprehensible — he just feels that it is his duty to commit these atrocities for the ‘greater good’ of the organization, and that the end therefore justifies the means.

The thing is, there is a character in BSD who is exactly the way this portion of the fandom characterizes Mori, and he was even a member of the Port Mafia, so if people really wanted to canonically explore this dynamic of a character who wholly gets off on tormenting people, causing suffering and probing others’ heads rather than doing it as just a business practice, they absolutely could still do it and be true to canon by writing about said other character; it’s just that it’s not a convenient truth that a lot of the fandom wants or likes to face — because that would mean acknowledging that it was everyone’s beloved Dazai and not the oh-so-despised Mori who used to think in such a sick and twisted way during his days in the criminal underworld.

Granted, some people do write both characters very well and very accurately, and I applaud them, but I do find it frustrating when the fandom reduces either Mori to this purely evil, sadistic villain who is bad just for the sake of being bad, because he is so much more interesting as he truly is in canon.

It’s this dichotomy where his dedication to the overall well-being of his people and company is admirable and even understandable, yet at the same time his individual actions when you look at them from a moral perspective are pretty much all morally reprehensible in some way, shape, or form — if not in every way. The same is true of his time in the army; as a general concept, his desire to protect Japan during the Great War was on the whole admirable and understandable, we know that he was well-meaning about it, but at the same time, no matter how desperate the situation was, what he did to Yosano and his entire army was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable — especially because it came so easily to him to do it and he made no apologies for it nor expressed any guilt over the suffering he caused later on.

Do I think Mori is, on the whole, a good person? Absolutely not. Do I think that he sometimes has the best of intentions in mind with his schemes? In the grander scheme of things, yes; it’s just that he mostly doesn’t care who or how many he has to hurt to achieve that so long as it’s slightly less than his net gain from doing it, which in turn cancels out things enough to prevent him from ever being labeled as being or acting as a “good person” at any moment.

I think the best, most objective description of him is to say that he’s pragmatic and ruthless.

…And then obviously there’s the part that everyone in the fandom discusses to death — about the main universe version of him being into little girls. Not a whole lot to say about that; it’s gross, it’s wrong, it’s unforgivable, it’s morally reprehensible, and it’s chilling and disturbing and it definitely completely disqualifies him from being labeled a good person even if he had been able to earn that title from something he did somewhere along the way.

That being said — and I know this is probably going to be controversial to a lot of the fandom, so let me say upfront that I’m not saying that that isn’t 100% a valid and understandable reading of who he is and the way he feels based on all the evidence throughout the series, nor am I trying to convince anyone otherwise — purely because it is fiction and therefore all made up to begin with, at least for my own personal comfort, I typically choose in my own personal readings to just look at him as someone with a particular weakness for little girls because he’s fatherly — although I make no effort to claim that to be the objective truth, nor does such interpretation affect or influence any of my writings in any way; it’s simply the way I prefer to engage with BSD on my own personal time — outside of my writings.

As a matter of fact, in my one fic, Bittersweet Belief, he was intentionally written with the intention of being portrayed as a groomer, and in Cherish, his ‘tastes’ will be portrayed no less nor more suspicious than how they are in canon, and therefore it will never be fully, directly addressed, but may be interpreted however you wish.

I do not need people coming to me providing evidence of why they believe there is no way to look at it differently, as again, I am not arguing that it is objectively untrue in any way that Mori is written to be a pedo in BSD, and when in public spaces among other people talking about it I don’t even try to say otherwise, much less convince anyone of it. I understand fandom etiquette and I am not trying to erase anything about him from others’ perceptions in order to make him more “likable”. I am just engaging with BSD, whenever I am personally reading it and watching it, in the way that is more comfortable for me. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, yeah, Mori’s a super fun character to write and observe in the BSD world! I think there’s a lot of depth to him and he’s very well-written — probably among my top past antagonists purely for the super interesting personality and the purely pragmatic outlook to life and business.

🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing? 

i am rendered physically incapable of writing if the correct music isn't playing in the background. i waste an immense amount of time searching for The Song to loop that will allow me to write, so, there's that. considering i've spent over a year absolutely insane over bsd, i'd say that heavily inspires me as well, especially with my literally writing fanfiction about it. there isn't really one specific piece of media, though, aside from it. the only common variable in my brain is bsd in more scenarios than i can handle. i get inspired in bursts most often by a good song (ugh. primarily radiohead), or whatever anime i'm currently watching. and honestly i'll sometimes be inspired by other fanfics, going for any fandom.

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

i tend to be pretty "resilient" when it comes to most fics, by which i mean i feel guilty about clicking away most of the time. anyway every time i see a wall of text without paragraph breaks i lose seventeen years from my life. also pheromones. i cannot. this is coming from someone who's toughed through constant "orbs" in a fic from the year 2023. i'm okay with a bit of poor characterization, but when it reads like the author has the media literacy of a child that's when i make my exit.

hi, i don’t normally comment on things like this— kind of nervous it’ll make you uncomfy but i hope you know how genuinely phenomenal your writing is. i read the anon ask that was like “where are the fics” and like i recognize it’s cause they’re excited to read what you want but some part of me is sad when people treat writers like that. idk… i don’t want to step on any boundaries, i don’t know you as a person, i have no right to decide what’s hurtful for you. i just hope you don’t feel pressured into writing anything, i would hate to witness someone’s hobby become more of a job. once again, i don't know you personally so i could be blowing things out of proportion 😭😭

Honestly you remind me of the old fanfic community and its a breath of fresh air! You did not make me uncomfortable or cross any boundaries what-so-ever (if anything I think you've read me and my self-estreem issues very well haha XD)! That being said I think, unfortunately, that's kinda the way fanfic community is at the moment; not only on tumblr but on other bigger sites (FF.net, AO3..). Fics are taken, translated, read aloud, unique writers styles, prompts and expressions shamelessly copied. There's also a demand from writers to share, produce, provide, be efficient, have a schedule, take requests etc etc while they get threatened with AI, hate, insults, trolls, demands, being reported, get buried/not have any engagement at all and I could go on. Fact of the matter is, there's very little wiggle room as a writer for what you can do 'back' so to speak. Sure you can create a DNI. Or more precisely a " All fics are unique works by ©ravencincaide 2024. Do not copy/repost/translate or spread my work(s) without my explicit permission. If you see any of my work(s) reposted/copied anywhere else without my consent, please inform me! " text to every fic- but does anyone listen? Not really. Sometimes it's still nice to see it though so I'm definitely starting with that even if it is essentiella pointless. You can spend valuable time on playing 'monitor police' on all those who take your work for granted and manually block spam-like, monitoring age/minors & bot-like blogs etc etc while repeatedly reminding about reblogs, comments and such. But ultimately it's not a fun activity; it would entail me blocking basically 90% of my followers. It would also take what little time i have to spare away from writing. And finally, I could just put this blog on hiatus and keep my writing to myself or find a site where I can hide it behind paywalls. Seeing as I write for anime/small fandoms/BSD rather than big fandoms such as Supernatural, Harry Potter etc the chances of doing that and making a name are rather.. well limited to say the least.

So fact of the matter is, independently whether I get hurt or writing becomes a job, if I want my fics out there. And if I want 'Raven Cincaide' to become a penname- a trademark that I could one day use for when I publish an original buyable book, then all the shit that comes with writing- it's just something I have to take with a smile on my face.

But you never turn him away. 

You don’t let him take advantage of your hospitality, of course. You accept the gifts without fail, and before allowing him into your bedroom, you make him wait until you finish whatever task you’d been in the middle of before he arrived. If you were about to shower, he’d wait on the couch. If you’re preparing dinner, he’ll often help you. 

It’s strangely … domestic, in a way, considering how casual your relationship is. 

Calling it a ‘relationship’ in itself feels like a misnomer, because he doesn’t come to your apartment to be domestic, or hold your hand, or ask you how your day went. He only ever comes over to fuck you, when he needs to get rid of the heavy tension he builds up in the course of his job, when he needs to let his mind go numb and so that he can forget, if just for a moment, what he’s done in the past. 

You’re happy to participate in this no-strings-attached relationship. It’s not as though you receive nothing from this arrangement, after all; you wouldn’t keep letting him in if it didn’t suit you too. With your career and all of life’s commitments, you don’t have time for a stereotypical romantic relationship. You’re too busy to tie your life to another person. 

However, you still have needs, and Chuuya satisfies them. Sure, it might be nice to hear from him a little more often, but that’s a small price to pay considering how convenient the set-up is for both of you. It works well. 

Today’s meet-up followed the same pattern as usual. A sharp knock on your front door, and you instantly recognised who it was. Still, you didn’t rush; you were preparing some tea in the kitchen and allowed it to steep a little longer as you chose to keep him waiting.

Eventually, you answered the door to see him standing there, eyes fiery and his body tense, and you let him in. 

That is where the familiarity ends. 

Now, you notice that there’s something different about him. As usual, he waited for you to drink the tea and accepted a cup of his own when offered to him, but he didn't say anything else. 

Didn’t say anything at all. 

He usually makes small talk - awkward as it may be, considering what the two of you end up doing right after - but tonight, he stays silent. He seems tightly wound, crackling with a tension you don’t quite understand. 

You peer at him over the top of your teacup. He’s not looking at you, he’s looking down at his hands, and his brow is deeply furrowed. His sharp features are even more pronounced than usual as he tries desperately to withhold whatever emotion that’s threatening to show on the surface. 

The silence becomes too much for you, and so you ask, “are you alright?”

He doesn’t seem to hear you at first, staring down at the teacup in his hands. You ask again. 

He glances up at you, eyes weary and almost … empty, like he’s not fully there. He seems wounded, as though something’s hurt him, and you feel a pang of pity and sadness rush through you. 

The sensation of sympathy is as unfamiliar to you as any of this. Before tonight, this arrangement was entirely unemotional. You never felt any connection to the man in front of you. 

But now, sitting here and seeing this deep vulnerability in someone usually so prideful …

It makes you want to hold him. 

The thought scares you, and so you do the next best thing - you set your teacup down, close the distance between the two of you, and kiss him. 

He tastes of tea leaves mixed with the faintest hint of cigarette smoke - he often keeps a pack on him, but rarely smokes them before meeting you - and you deepen the kiss before you start to linger on those earlier, troubling thoughts. 

He reciprocates instantly. He kisses you far more passionately than you’ve seen from him before. Usually he likes to take his time with you, dragging his tongue gently against your bottom lip until you’re almost whining for him, chuckling against your open mouth as he holds back to drive you mad. He likes to see you fall apart, to beg, for him to be the one in control and have complete command. 

But tonight he surrenders. As you kiss him you hear a moan caught in his throat, low and gravelly, and you feel his hands paw at you desperately, eventually settling on grabbing your waist. He holds you close, grip firm but not forceful. You let him touch you. 

When you eventually pull back to catch your breath, he doesn’t do the same. It’s like he can’t be away from you, your body; he clings to you, peppering soft kisses along your jawline, nuzzling into your neck as he does so. 

The intimacy shocks you. He never does that, never tries to hold you so close before - in fact, he rarely even kisses you. Usually it’s just an afterthought, in the heat of passion, but tonight, it’s like he needs it. Like the entire evening is built around that. 

He starts to tug your shirt up over your shoulders but it catches at your chest before he can fully remove it. Instead of waiting for you to untie the top buttons he dips his head and presses his lips against your chest, planting wet kisses on the skin between your breasts, going lower, lower until he’s down on his knees, kissing your stomach just above the waistline of your pants. 

You let out an airy, disbelieving laugh.

Your words hang heavy for just another moment, adrenaline coursing through your veins, before he finally puts you out of your misery by leaning down and capturing your lips in a searing, fierce kiss.

He pulls back, breath hot against your face as he rests his forehead against yours. 

It’s barely a whisper, but you hear it clear as day. 

“I want you”. 

You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him in; he follows, pressing into you in one smooth motion. You’re still so wet thanks to his efforts in the kitchen so it’s an easy slide, filling you just how you need and hitting at the perfect angle. 

It’s strange - you’ve done this countless times before, but this feels new. Every time he pulls out and thrusts back inside you let out little pitiful mewls for him, back arching like you’ve never felt anything like it. 

Because you haven’t. 

The way he looks at you now, all heat and desire and open want …

some days ago one person in my fandom posted a fic about oral sex with the bsd characters and the title was that, like, straight up that sentence. and for the record i thought: well i've seen this concept a milion times already, even me i wrote about this a lot of times, nothing new (i even made a bet with myself saying: surely it's going to be the ''does he prefer to give or recieve'' type of fic that was really popular in anime fandoms years ago lmao)

well in any case, it wasn't that specific fic troupe but it alternated between giving and recieving between certain characters. and as i read through it, even if it was good, i thought to myself once more, bro, i've seen this a milion times already. just pwp, the same concept, since i was 17 or so.

and what a surprise when i check the notes. 700, 37 reblogs.

and my problem with this comes here, because, i feel so frustraetd whenever i try to do the same concept, even if it has been reused 100 of times, just because newer stuff doesn't work well for small accounts like mine, because they get ignored. but suddenly, when another account does the same idea i wanted to do, they get so much interaction? like how do you even manage that? i'm 100% sure i could post the same and not even get 10 reblogs (because it has happened) and suddenly another acc does it and they get so many

i'm a petty bitch ik but like- i dont get it. new stuff doesn't work because it's either too much or it gets ignored, the same concept doesn't work either because it's been seen too many times and gets ignored as well, but would you look at that, a bigger account or even someone who only has 100 followers more than me has that many interactions

My darling love,, don’t even worry about that, I totally get how you feel, this is pretty much universal since it happens in ALL of the fandoms I guess. This is more common in the HOTD fandom than you think!!

Interactions are absolutely fundamental to us writers. And anyone who says otherwise either doesn’t want to admit it, is trying to cheer you up or smth, or I don’t know — but it’s not wrong at all to admit we not only write for our own satisfaction, but as well for interaction. Interaction is what keeps us motivated to write more things, knowing people will see and appreciate your effort by commenting, reblogging, or liking your work.

In the HOTD fandom it happens the exact same. Maybe you write headcanons, or a one shot with a particular plot for a particular character (or several), and maybe you get... At a maximum, 80 notes. But a popular acc does it? They are exploded in notes. 30 reblogs, 300+ likes, 15 comments. Good for them! But perhaps it’s the same reused plot thousands of times and no one even cares about small writers, they just straight up go praising the big accs and exploding them in interactions, while smaller accs are left out.

And for small writers, seeing people favouring certain accounts more than others, that just lowers your motivation and makes you feel like shit; sometimes even making you want to stop writing. So yes, interactions do matter despite anyone else saying otherwise. And trust me I get how you feel because it happened to me so many times that it made me feel awful, like some people don’t even TRY to focus on smaller, new writers. :/

1. i gotta put it first bc it's severely underrated (to the point of not even having an ao3 tag the last time i checked smh) and deserves appreciation. fwbs to lovers my beloved. there's so much you can do with it to keep it interesting and it's naturally super spicy and fun. every fic i read with it was flowing and lighthearted and this is what i like uwu

2. fake dating!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no need to elaborate on that one it speaks for itself i think

3. idk what it's called but um ig when the characters play a game? i think it's a good way to explore who each one of them is (think the dnd episode in she-ra) and it's generally a really interesting setting imo. also really cool when the game is affected by real life somehow, or highlights character dynamics through it (like for example all the skk fics where they shred everyone at charades bc they're just so in sync). just the use of in-universe games for narrative

4. lotus machine aka what every character's ideal life would be (<- maruki kinnie) + its inversion, aka what their biggest nightmare is. again i think it speaks for itself (tho idk if it's exactly what you meant when you said in fandom i apologize. but. it's cool to see in fics too! just more rare)

5. soulmate au 👉👈 it's less about the idea of soulmates to me and more how versatile it is. anything could be a soulmate au. there's so much to do with it and many ways to play even with the basic, most common premises of it. and it slaps every time

I’m looking for Bungou Stray Dogs (BSD) RPs. With the new season coming up and some fics I've read, I have bsd brainrot once again, I swear I'll never get over this fandom. Yet with me being an older fan and all, i’m 19 and I've been following the anime since it came out, i’m looking for more rarepairs now so this might be a long shot. I’m specifically looking for:

Ranpoe (i can write either, i have more experience with Poe though)

Higugin (i can write either but i prefer Higuchi)

Plus I'm open to trying ships with Yosano since i’ve been appreciating her more and more lately. 

Honestly I would prefer an AU but I like post-canon and canon divergent plots, i haven’t read the manga, i’ve only watched the anime yet i’m really ok with spoilers if i end up RPing with a manga reader. I would like to discuss plots and headcanons, generally be friends and my preferred platform is discord. My length varies and I'm cool with all lengths as long as they aren’t script or novella lit.
