i still really want to post the full volo execution on here because i think i did a REALLY good job writing it but the issue is.
there are two video components . i don't know if i can add two videos in one post... i don't think i can if i don't make it a youtube link and that would be... clunky
when i originally posted the execution i had a lot of precise control over the SPEED it was posted, it was over discord so i spaced out certain paragraphs and waited for the videos to be viewed by everyone (watched for chat reactions over certain lines that are only at the very end of each video) before i continued so as to prevent anyone from reading ahead and also to create the exact tense atmosphere i desired. now granted i did have people read it for me before and after it was time for the execution itself and the pacing seemed solid BUT i wanted to take it a step further and ENSURE it was all read exactly how i wanted it to be
the context. holy shit is there so much missing context. sure yeah i could just say "it's from a multiverse killing game rp, it's basically danganronpa in space and you can have volo from pokemon, billy joe cobra from dude that's my ghost, whirl from transformers, and shego from kim possible (all real examples. spamton was the first murderer btw.) all in the same room at once and no one bats an eye" but. i almost feel like that wouldn't cut it because you also need to know i only write my volo the way i think it would be FUN to write volo (rather than what i think is canon) and that's with his god complex turned up to 1 trillion, if you wanted to know anything from "why was there a steak keychain" to "why turtle" i'd need to explain the folklore/folktales i was referencing and built the entire execution's theme around, you'd need to see the murder + attempted murder that he was getting executed for to begin with, you'd need to know the attempted murder was fucking joshua from twewy, you'd need to know joshua from twewy is unity's best friend, you'd need to know volo is/was dating unity and they had a hateromance for almost the entire duration of the game thus far (started hateflirting on day 2, had a potent emotional moment day 20, became officially romantically involved i think literally the same day that we were allowed to start establishing romantic relationships with the characters on day 42, and they lasted all the way until day 311 when volo was executed), you'd need to fucking know who unity is to begin with and they are literally an oc, like do you see the problem here it won't hit as hard if you don't know the context. this also isn't even all of the context i need to give. my joshua has 6 wings. that's important to know if i were to include the body drop photo that shows off the result of volo's murder/arts and crafts project/torture session so you don't think he only had 2 and consequently wonder how volo could have chopped off 4 of them

Laszlo and Guillermo’s friendship means a lot to me because they seem to be the two character with the most complicated relationships to both vampirism and to their conceptions of love.
Laszlo is the youngest of the vamps and you can see the enthusiasm wearing thin as human relationships like raising a child or having a best friend become strained and complicated. Guillermo is the opposite: he’s so disenchanted with humanity he craves vampirism as an escape without really considering that immortality won’t change his complicated relationship with his family or Nandor’s selfish attitude or the vamps looking down on him.
Nandor is more on the nose as a parallel to Guillermo but I think Laszlo is the more interesting parallel. They both crave what they can never have but cannot admit to themselves what they really want. It’s not a search for contentment but a refusal to change their preconceived ideas of themselves. I love them.

The thing about nimbus that makes them such an interesting character to me is that they are earnest and unapologetic and excitable and they put 110% into everything they do at all times and all of it comes from a place of “pay no attention to what’s behind the curtain lighthearted funnyman persona”
Not to say that nimbus is Actually just full of angst and sadness and tragedy behind the scenes all the time. they aren’t, not even with the death of their mentor. nor is it all that different from what they are feeling at any given moment. it’s not. But being neomuni, being a cloud strider, a protector of their people (and an incredibly competent one at that), it gives them a certain presence to their self-image in their own mind that probably wouldn’t be there if they were just another digital citizen, if they were still Dara Danu instead of Nimbus. The augmentations they put themself through to become a cloud strider aren’t something eating away at their lifespan every waking moment, it was a conscious choice and noble sacrifice. Rohan’s death wasn’t something to mourn, it’s something to inspire and propel them to fight and work harder and preserve his memory. Their jokes and commentary aren’t ways to put distance between Nimbus the Cloud Strider and Nimbus the Person, it’s just their brand of humor that some people find annoying. But that’s fine by them, they wouldn’t be bothered by that. Their core is still protected, and that’s all that really matters in the end. This way nothing can reach them, hurt them, pull them in any direction other than where they want to go. This way nimbus as a whole is friendly and open and protected and untouchable, paradoxically in thanks to how ridiculously, unabashedly comfortable they are in their own skin, so much so that it becomes a caricature of itself without anyone even trying to make it that way, least of all nimbus themself
And they are themself, fully, during the entirety of lightfall and post-campaign. They’re silly and fun-loving and goofy and joking and reckless and overconfident and compassionate and intelligent and caring and emotional and dedicated to the safety of their people above all, and it’s all over-the-top and in-your-face and probably a little bit too forceful thanks to them going from one in a team of two with someone to watch their back and cover for them so they can goof off on the job to The lone cloud strider responsible for the survival of their entire civilization more than ever now with their presence being known to the rest of the solar system and also dealing with shadow legion and vex incursions on the side. It’s their nonchalant “I’m full of fury” line that made me think “oh you are absolutely blorbo material” but it was the mission in the black garden for deterministic chaos that really made my third eye open and my brain say “oh. oh there is so much more going on with your character than we realize. ok then” *becomes my new favorite*

really quick thing but i had to get it out immediately once i thought about it
Edit 05/26/2023: thank you to @princess-of-purple-prose for assistance writing the following image ID!
[Image ID: Digital fanart of Vash from Trigun Maximum. Vash is depicted in profile. He is kneeling with his face pressed to the ground, his hands braced on either side of his head in a pose reminiscent of prayer or prostration. He is sobbing. The background is white with a gray cross. Excerpts of text float through the background, with the last three lines surrounding Vash. They read:
If you are Gilgamesh and did those things, why Are you so emaciated and your face half-crazed?
I have grieved! Is it so impossible To believe? he pleaded. My friend who went through everything with me Is dead!
No one grieves that much, she said. Your friend is gone. Forget him. No one remembers him. He is dead.
Enkidu. Enkidu. Gilgamesh called out: Help me. They do not know you As I know you. End Image ID.]

What point is there in ruling the world, if the people you want in it are already gone?
The goal to rule the world is hollow now. All For One wanted a world where everyone existed for his sake.
Tumblr media
Yet, the one person (possession) he wanted most by his side, as the one whose dreams inspired him to find his own, and the first person AFO declared them to, is already gone.

If I had a nickel for every time a show I watched had a cute, wide-eyed alien named Meap with a high-pitched voice crash their spaceship into earth while involved with a hunt for a dangerous criminal, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Harrow the Ninth has already used "...something after death, the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns," and "To die, to sleep—to sleep, perchance to dream!" But I think Hamlet has more ambiance to give
So just off the cuff, a few lines from Hamlet that go hard enough to be used in The Locked Tomb:
It is a consummation devoutly to be wished (Act 3, Scene 1, 71-72)
I will wear him In my heart’s core, ay, in my heart of heart, As I do thee (Act 3, Scene 2, 77-79)
Sweets to the sweet, farewell! (Act 5, Scene 1, 254)
Goodnight, sweet prince. (Act 5, Scene 2, 396)
"It is a consummation devoutly to be wished,"
Part of Hamlet's most famous soliloquy, the consummation he means here is death. I've already referenced this line more than once in meta about Paul, because depending on the context, consummation can mean "termination, a final ending," or "the state of being completed/perfected," or "sexual intercourse in the context of finalising a marriage." It seems like a reference tailor-made for the Eightfold Word, and the fine line it walks between consummation and consumption.
"I will wear him In my heart’s core, ay, in my heart of heart, As I do thee"
This line is said by Hamlet to Horatio, but really the context doesn't matter on this one. I just think "heart's core" and "in my heart of heart" (or your/her heart of heart) have potential.
"Sweets to the sweet, farewell!"
Gertrude says this while scattering flowers over Ophelia's grave, but honestly? I'm seeing this being lifted as a cheeky line for Ianthe to say to Harrow, perhaps throwing a gift to her while making a strategic retreat. It sounds like Ianthe's style of flirting. But I could also see Dulcinea or Augustine saying it, in other contexts.
"Goodnight, sweet prince."
Kiriona. Duh. As Horatio's final goodbye to Hamlet, this would have to be used in either a very serious or very tongue in cheek context.

rwby wrap up for this week provided confirmation that the brothers made the cat, not salem
1. extra-textual commentary is not going to contain major spoilers, lol
2. the cat distinctly says “maker has” and all but one of the localizations i’m able to check translate the line as singular. it is absurd to suggest that the line is written this way by accident—a dramatic reveal of critical narrative importance, precipitating the climactic sequence of what they’ve described as the most important volume of the whole show? you think someone wrote down “maker has” when they really meant “makers have” and nobody noticed or bothered to correct the error, in the years this volume spent in production?
3. do you think dialogue isn’t important? do you think the words the characters say, the material of the narrative itself, doesn’t matter? do you really think an off-the-cuff remark made in an informal interview (and appended by “there’s so many connections already, and more to come”) takes narrative priority over the actual text?
if the brothers had a direct hand in it, it was only dark. i’ve been saying that all along. a casual remark bookended by a discussion about deliberate narrative sleight-of-hand and guiding audience perceptions on one side and teasing more reveals lined up in the next two episodes on the other isn’t a confirmation of anything except authorial awareness of what conclusion the audience will jump to. and irrespective of whether my specific theory is right or not, the remark itself isn’t wholly true or confirmation of anything because the actual written text of the story indicates a singular maker.

do you ever write out a post and then remember the reading comprehension on this site is abysmal and you can practically feel the potential shitty comments and think "actually no this isn't worth it"
#personal#thoughts#🍬 post#vent post#there are these posts about accessibility and tone tags and the way people use trigger warnings on discord and stuff like that#and one of them is like ''the way people spoiler triggers on discord is wrong and doesn't actually help and you shouldn't do it like that''#and it's been like. the exact form of warning that worked for us when the ''correct'' way wouldn't have actually helped at all#I haven't seen the posts in a while but I've seen some of them multiple times before and they always piss me off#and I just fucking want people to realise that people have different access needs#yes that format of warning or tone tag or whatever might not work for you but your experiences aren't universal#and it'd be shitty for me to say that formatting it in a way that works for you is wrong just because it doesn't work for me#but that fucking goes both ways#but I just know if I actually posted the very carefully worded post I typed up about it someone would take it in the worst possible faith#''don't spoiler the word in the warning and don't only spoiler that word and none of the rest of the text''#what if the word itself is the fucking trigger. what if I need you to leave the rest of the text unspoilered so I can figure out what it is#without actually having to see the word because I can back out and avoid a panic attack as long as I don't see the word itself#this isn't even a hypothetical this is something we had to deal with last year#and discord servers with that specific format were the only places we could guarantee we'd be able to avoid being triggered by it

As one of few people who’s mecha fixation has unironically just been stuff Jun Kawagoe directed and while I definitely can say you can tell it’s the same dude probably leading the project from just certain things alone I found something funny regarding the titles of threes tieing back to their mechs: New Getter Robo, Kosetsushin Jeeg and Mazinkaiser SKL dawned on me that people probably call the mechs in those shows by the title name when in the actual show context they never call the mechs any of those.
For the case of New it is called “Shin” in Japanese and calling a different getter Shin would likely cause confusion so they default it to just “Getter” even if this Getter never ends up having a actual name for its model. Of course confusion probably comes from referring to the series in Japanese given the manga arc shin and Armageddon subtitle has “Shin Getter Robo” in it but I won’t ponder how Japanese fandom gets around that lol.
In the case of Mazinkaiser SKL while it’s clear the mech seen IS a version of Mazinkaiser, they only ever call it “Kaiser” which doesn’t have a explanation but is a interesting differentiate approach even if this wouldn’t cause confusion like the former. SKL was probably add as a subtitle but not to reflect what this Mazinkaiser is called, despite having a Skull Plider.
But then we get to Kotetsushin Jeeg and this is where it gets the funniest. For starters, while some people refer to it as “Shin Jeeg” Shin is not used in the same context of new or any other mechas with the shin subtitle. (Which Shin tends to mean either New or True which I think we can imagine which one Getter used lol) Shin combined with Kotetsu-and probably how the kanji was written or whatever text they used-actually translates to “Steel God Jeeg” and not “Steel New/True Jeeg” as some might think. Which- Technically speaking in show, Jeeg DOES get called this but not until the end where **Spoilers** Kenji uses the power of two bronze bells + Balba to gain a greater form which is called the Steel God. But Kenjis base Jeeg is never referred to as Kotetsushin, it’s only ever Kotetsu so he would share the full title with Hiroshi. Of course it’s just easier to differentiate them to call the mech “Shin Jeeg” anyways or just say “Kenjis Jeeg”.
This is one giant autistic ramble and only the end title really held actual significance to its show but I found it funny how three times with a mecha Jun directed he never makes it abundantly clear what the robots in these iterations are actually called when using basic context clues you know it’s not the title names. Just thought this be a neat thought to type out.
