it's steddiemas!! i am so excited for these prompts!!! i'm sure i'm not going to make something for each day, but there are a good few that i'm excited about; my plan is to make all the ones i do write be one story, but we'll see how that goes 😅

Eddie wakes up too early on November 1st. But hey, when nature calls, you answer.

He takes care of business and is turning back to the guest room he’d crashed in last night when a movement catches his eye.

Someone is awake already, and is weaving a string of artificial greenery along the bottom of the rail where the second floor is open into the living room.

Eddie takes another step forward and sees Steve's face peeking up over the floor, perfectly and completely content. The seemingly always furrowed brow he has is gone, his eyes are soft, and his lips set into a just barely there smile as he hums quietly to himself.

“Steve?” He immediately regrets interrupting Steve’s peace, as he startles at the sound of Eddie’s voice.

He looks up at Eddie briefly, then immediately relaxes back into his task. “Oh, you’re awake! Listen, I love you man,” Eddie’s stomach swoops at the words. “But I'm kinda in a groove right now, so once a couple of the others are up I’ll start making breakfast, ‘kay?”

Eddie nods in agreement despite Steve already looking away back to the garland in his hands. He really wants to ask why in the actual hell he’s hanging Christmas decorations the literal day after Halloween, but what comes out is “How are you not dying right now?”

Steve’s hands pause, and he blinks up at Eddie in confusion so he continues, “You had just as much to drink as I did last night…?”

Understanding floods the other man’s face. “Oh! I have a splitting headache right now.” Steve says, getting back to the task at hand and weaving the end of a string of lights through a gap between the banisters.

“Yet you’re awake. And putting up Christmas decorations.”

“Yes.”

The crease re-appears between Steve's brows, though not nearly as deep as usual. 

“Cool. Cool. Follow up question: why are you putting up Christmas decorations?? It’s only the day after Halloween!”

Steve stiffens at that, his brow furrowed fully now.

‘Shit, take it back asshole!’ Eddie chides himself.

“Exactly. It’s time for Christmas.” Steve sniffs, pausing before he continues in a soft voice, “I like Christmas..”

He doesn’t look back up at Eddie, and is now shoving the garland and lights through each gap in the railing, rather than slowly guiding them through.

Eddie watches him for a couple moments then says, “Alright big guy, what can I do to help?”

Steve is immediately relieved, looking back up at Eddie with a big smile (and no crease between his brows, thank you very much), “Wanna put the decorations on the mantle?”

“Sure thing Stevie,” Eddie smiles back at him, turning on his heel to trot down the steps and hang a left into the living room.

He freezes, taking in everything around him he couldn’t see from his spot in the hall upstairs.

There’s red and green tubs, boxes stacked upon boxes, loose strings of cranberries and shedded artificial pine needles absolutely everywhere.

There’s also a complete lack of any Halloween decorations left in the giant room. 

So, in the last however long Steve's been awake, he has: cleaned up from their party the night before, put away all the spooky decorations, pulled out a department store’s worth of Christmas decor, and is currently hanging garlands from atop a—holy shit!

“Steve! Why the fuck are you up so high??”

Steve twists back at Eddie's outburst, looking confused as all hell. “What do you mean, ‘Why?’? You just saw me upstairs, how else am I supposed to hang this?” he says, shaking his arm full of un-placed pine and the ladder in the process.

“You could’ve put them in from upstairs! On stable ground!” Eddie stresses, scrambling between and over boxes of holiday cheer to get to the other end of the room.

“I’m fine Eddie, I’ve been on a ladder before.” Steve snorts, going back to his lights. 

“Steve, sweetheart, you cannot be up that high on a ladder without someone holding onto the bottom!” Eddie says, finally getting over to him and grabbing onto it with both hands, leaning his weight onto it. “What if you fell? No one was awake! What if no one heard you!”

“Please.” Eddie could hear the eye roll in Steve’s voice, “I was perfectly fine.”

“Yeah, well, Wayne would kill me if I let you commit an OSHA violation.”

“What’s an OSHA?”

“Nevermind, keep working Stevie.”

He continues to work steadily, weaving and pruning the fake greenery to his liking and bunching up the end to stuff between two posts when he decides to come down.

He comes down the ladder and makes to move it when Eddie stops him.

“Oh no you don’t, you’re not going back up there.” he states, quickly letting the ladder fall together back from its extended length.

“I’m not done!”

“Didn’t say you were.” he says, leaning the ladder against the wall instead, out of the way, “You’re just going to do this from up there instead.”

For a moment, it looks like Steve is going to argue, but he gives up before he even starts, huffing petulantly and grumbling up the stairs. “And they call me ‘Mom’.”

“Thanks, Stevie!” Eddie calls after him.

“Yeah, yeah.."

Eddie snorts a quiet laugh, but goes back to his original task. He starts examining the boxes strewn out in front of him, the one labeled ‘GARLAND’ is already open, another boasts the title ‘LIGHTS’, another just says ‘KITCHEN’; after three huge tubs labeled ‘TREE’, he finds a smaller cardboard box with ‘MANTLE’ scrawled onto the side with marker.

You can’t say Steve isn’t organized.

He pulls open the top and starts to pull out the decorations. Everything in this box is colored in the few same shades of red, muted green, a handful more in bright silver. From the bottom, he pulls out a much shorter string of garland than the one Steve’s still fluffing to perfection upstairs, this one wound with a thick red, white, and green plaid ribbon.

“What?” Steve calls down after Eddie starts to laugh.

“More plaid, Steven?” Eddie grins, turning to show the garland in his hands.

This time, Steve snorts out a laugh, “Shut up, man.”

Eddie digs a little farther and comes back out with a small plastic box of thumbtacks and gets to work on the mantle. Using the ribbon to pin the length to the wood above the fireplace, he sets it in place along the edge, glancing up to fluff the fake branches out how Steve’s got the ones upstairs.

He gets into his own groove in no time, going back and forth from box to fireplace and placing the various baubles and tchotchkes how he thinks they should be. The clunky and gaudy seeming holiday themed frames at the bottom of the box throw him off for a moment, but soon there are years of awkward pictures of the shitheads leaning along the mantle.

A little red frame holds one of Max and El laughing brightly in just as brightly colored make-up and clothes, a framed polaroid of Robin and Steve in their Scoops uniforms, one of Will dressed up for Halloween; The pictures all must only be a few years old, Steve didn’t really get to know the kids until ‘84, but this little Dustin in the frame with the 3D train on it, and this one with a very disgruntled-looking Mike with his hair slicked flat in an over-the-top tree frame go right in the front.

“Nancy gave me that one of Mike, if you can believe it. He’s gonna hate that it’s up here.” Steve says from behind him now, a smile in his voice “Claudia gave me this one of Henderson. It’s actually from before their Snow Ball back in Middle school, I did his hair.”

Oh fuck, that’s adorable. Eddie’s heart squeezes in his chest. “You never told me that,” he says, accepting the last frame from Steve. A bright blue one with a Teddy Bear in each of the bottom two corners. This one has a JC Penney professional-looking shot of Erica and Lucas in matching holiday sweaters. Definitely a Mrs. Sinclair specialty.

“Erica gave me that one last Christmas, after everything happened at Starcourt.” he smiles, “They’re gonna hate that they’re all up like this.”

“Good.” Eddie grins, turning to face the other man, “What’s next, Stevie?”

They spend the next couple hours decorating; Steve tackles the tree next, working on it while he directs Eddie what to put up next, and making sure to call him back for any more ladder use at Eddie’s insistence.

At one point, Robin shuffles out from the first floor guest room she shared with Nancy, but she takes one look around and shuffles back down the hall.

Sooner than he thought, Eddie finds himself standing in the middle of a Sears catalog. The tree is huge, a fake one to fit the Harringtons’ high ceilings, covered in multicolored lights, red, green, and silver baubles, stringy silver tinsel, a sparkling star on top. 

The stair railings are lit up along both the top and bottom, the kitchen towels and utensils swapped out for holiday themed ones, even the front doormat is switched out for a Christmas themed one.

Steve is wandering around the place, vacuuming up stray glitter and pine needles, poking and prodding things until he’s satisfied, and Eddie is packing up anything unused and carting the tubs and boxes back to the garage.

After his last trip, Eddie swings back through the door to the living room under the steps at the same time Steve is coming back through the other way, both his arms filled with the last of the unused lights.

They collide, of course, and Eddie bends forward on instinct to catch any falling strings

“OOf–shit sorry, Stevie, I–” he glances up at Steve’s face for just a moment, but looks back up immediately, standing straight and keeping his eyes trained on something past Steve’s face, taped haphazardly to the underside of the doorframe.

“It’s okay, Eds, you oka–what’s wrong—?” Steve looks up as well.

Mistletoe.

“Mistletoe? How’d that–? Eddie, I didn’t– You–we don’t have to—”

Eddie’s lips find themselves brushing against the warm, soft skin of Steve’s cheek before the younger man can collect his thoughts.

He lingers there for a moment, pulling back with the lights in his arms instead. “I’ve got these, sweetheart, wanna get started on breakfast?”

Steve looks completely floored, his face flushed red and mouth agape; Eddie gives him a quick wink, then turns back toward the garage just before his own face starts to burn hot. “Holy shit,” he whispers to himself, smiling wide, “Jesus H. Christ.”

it was 100% robin that taped up the mistletoe in case you were wondering lmao

i looked up to make sure OSHA was around in '86 and it was established in 1970, enacted in 1971. if you assume wayne is a union man like i do, he would've definitely known all about proper OSHA compliance

also, i looked up old pictures of 80s era christmas trees and when abouts fake trees came into popularity (which was in the 80s :o) ) to get the descriptions right, and you just know the harringtons would've been on top of all the trends (though i think steve would prefer stringy strips of tinsel over long garlands of the stuff).

since about the later teen years, Sero has always been one to hand out candy, but this year he wanted to be the one receiving the candy!

which it's funny, he literally chose this on his own volition and it’s you who’s being dragged out to go trick or treating.

this young twenty-something year old was so excited about y’all matching that he wanted to show out on Halloween night lmao.

+ if y’all went out partying on any of the prior nights, just know he was stuck by your hip the whole time (and even did a demonstration of ykw).

Sero literally makes a whole spectacle about it like the thought is hilarious.

bro is swinging from building to building with you in his arms when you get tired of walking, he keeps the mask on the whole time just so the kids around him still feel the excitement of “Spiderman” making a guest appearance in their neighborhood. :’)

please the amount of times you or the older people accompanying the other kids out have made you take pictures of Sero and them was too many times to count LOL.

At a certain point some grumpy person is like, “why is yo big funky ass doin’ all of this fo" and he doesn’t give a FUCK.

To which Sero is like, “my Spidey senses are telling me it’s passed your bedtime, geriatic” meanwhile the person questioning him is like 40 years old.

you hate to admit that you actually had fun doing this foolishness with him and it is one of the memorable nights for you.

would you do it again next year? absolutely not.

+ except, Sero always had a way of persuading you….

BONUS: Sero became a trending topic on social media with even news stations covering it. this latent function ended up being more beneficial than you ever thought it would be.

Shinso chose… to go trick or treating! 🍭

this was barely his decision.

Shinso had already known about your adoration for Halloween but this was one of the first years of you two being together that you dragged him out on your shenanigans.

normally, you dress up and go along your merry way, with of course him reminding you to let him know if anything happens to call him. but this year, you wanted to do something different.

you wanted to do a couples costume.

the first idea was to do something like Squid Games, which he wasn’t opposed to. he could keep his face covered, spare his dignity, y'know?

then you changed your mind and wanted something more cute like Jack Skellington and Sally, which okay he doesn’t mind. he didn't want to say it out loud but you guys would look hot as them.

but the last and bright idea you went with was… salt and pepper?

yeah.

Shinso nearly passed out from it making no sense at all.

the worst part knowing he had no choice in the matter because once you made up your mind, that’s what y’all going with LMAO.

He’s like “why the fuck did you go with that idea?? Shit makes no sense.”

so when it’s Halloween night and y’all are out trick or treating, he has no choice but to keep his head held high and calls out to each door with a monotone, “trick or treat 😐".

Aizawa doesn’t really give a fuck about holidays, like he does not care at all.

he’s the type of man who only does stuff if his s/o or someone he generally cares about loves it, but other than that if it was up to him he would not be entertaining this.

it's not like he hates holidays or like has some vendetta against them from traumatic experiences, mans just doesn’t gaf.

BUTTTTTT he will show out in the most driest way known to man just to support you lmao.

He’ll be like, “what? I thought this is what you wanted?” in his makeshift Halloween costume made with tissue paper around his forehead and waist as a ‘mummy’ as if his hero costume doesn’t already have those components?))?)#*(%)4

I hate to break the 4th wall here, but now I’m starting to debate whether he’d do some ghetto goofy costume or be one of those types to have a super good looking and creepy costume and jumpscares kids as they try to reach for the bowl.

safe to say, you gave him a new tradition??? like visiting his house really is a trick or treat but this time it's in the area of if he will put in the effort or not depending on the year.

at a certain point this man is committed to stealing the show???

the dream I had which is now cannon in my heart

(The only way this is even vaguely related to what we've been doing is that it started when Sylvie got sick in the way that things like that get you thinking about what's important etc)

But anyway, the dream was about Maggie and her namesake nan because I vibe that Johnny visits her (first at home in her caravan where she's getting cared for by his sisters and then in the home she gets put in eventually when her Alzheimer's gets worse) every week like a dutiful son and his wife and kids only go on special occasions when they've gotta so Maggie goes with him from when her nan is in the home and she can (because she's the daughter of Ali and she'd insist regardless of however young she may be)

So like I said, when Sylvie is a sick kid she decides that she wants to see her nan more like oh I really should while I still have her and she sneaks and goes whenever she can and the staff let her even though she's only 12 because they recognise her from coming with her dad and she's doing no harm (plus jali will say it's okay when they inevitably find out, even though they don't necessarily know how often she is going, including when she's supposed to be at school (because like her mum she's a wild child so nobody is automatically assuming that's where she is cos she could be off anywhere doing anything and often is/was lol)

A wholesome time is being had despite the nan being deep in her dementia and not able to talk or know her/basically confined to a chair and as time passes a bed, because nevertheless this gal chats away and they look at photos or she sings to her or they have lunch together and she helps feed her, does her hair and paints her nails etc etc all the cute things, sometimes she just draws the nan while they listen to music (which is foreshadowing and handy for later when her nan dies and she gives all these drawings to her dad, including ones she did of her when she was younger from said photos they look at)

Years pass how they will (it was unspecified in the dream, she got older than 12 but she was still a teen idk) and sometimes as the nan got worse she didn't want long visits or was asleep when Maggie came so she ended up making friends with most of the carers + other residents (she's her mother's daughter and makes friends easily) and I've always vibed she likes making clothes especially costumes so picture her throwing a lil Halloween party for the residents who are able to go and making Christmas decs and singing Christmas songs and hiding chocolate eggs all around this home at Easter etc etc, all the while only the peeps closest to her even know she does any of this cos she isn't shouting about it, basically she's a full time volunteer without thinking of it like that

But of course, the day comes when her nan dies (again it was kinda unspecified in the dream but she ended up going into hospital dying basically and poor Mags couldn't go and say her goodbyes because there is so much extended gypsy fam always visiting that she couldn't even sneak when one of them wasn't there and it was really sad*) so she stops visiting the home obvs cos she's really sad but runs into one of the younger carers coincidentally one day when she's in town and they have a lil catch up and she's like we all 'we miss you' + '[one of the residents she made friends with] is having a 90th birthday party, you should come' so she did go and it slayed and she decides to come back and keep visiting again, thinking she'll just go like once a week or every so often and it'll be chill but DUH she ends up going almost as often as she did before, doing all kinds of different shit with different residents, having a whale of a time and living her best life (p.s this did not happen in the dream but as I'm writing this down I'm thinking of the potential for her to get with someone's grandson if we wanted a ship for her, like in that book, cos you know these old ladies would all be trying to pimp their fam out lol)

Long story short, she kept it up and they offered her a job when she finished school which she took and I love that because it's not something she planned (like her mother she's into all sorts of things) but it's just a job she falls into and really enjoys * There was a whole part in the dream about the funeral btw, she (and Ali) did get to go but even though all they were trying to do was pay their respects and serve a lewk, the gypsy fam were SO mad and didn't want them there because it was a full blown traditional affair despite the nan not being a gypsy as we now know, Johnny was sticking up for her while also trying to stop things kicking off but ultimately his dad put his foot down and told her (and Ali) to leave cos he didn't want the drama and felt like he was being shown up as he's clearly on the side of the gypsy fam about it and tries to pretend Maggie and Django (who wasn't there) don't exist

They left cos not trying to cause a scene actually but just before they did there was a whole heartbreaking moment where Maggie said to her granddad in gypsy lingo something like sorry for your loss (idk if they have their own equivalent of things they like to say but if they do it was that vibe because she put her all into it) trying to be nice and respectful and saying it with ALL the feeling in the world cos she loved her nan so much by this point but everyone was simply fuming and didn't take it the right way

So this was when she decided to change her name because not only a fuck you all he's my dad too but fuck you all I'm gonna have my nan's whole name cos she's my bestie and ILY and y'all didn't even visit her unless you were forced

I won’t post the pics here cause…wow. But I just saw photos of Diddy’s 16 year old twin daughters and the outfit these girls have on at their sweet 16 party… chiiiild🤦🏽‍♀️. Omg. It’s like grown people at this party and they have on the equivalent of some futuristic, anime, lingerie. I mean literal corset panty bottoms and a bra with shoulder pads. 🫣🫣🫣🫣

I mean seriously, these girls JUST turned 16. Like they were 15 24 hrs ago.

And did I mention they JUST turned 16?! Not 18. Not 21. 16. 😐

It just bothers me the level of hyper sexuality amongst young teens that has been thrusted onto them by social media. It’s not a costume party and even so…why?! im 33, it’s not like I’m super out of touch. But I didn’t even have the desire to dress like that at 16. Not to talk about whether my parents would LET me. And I’m Nigerian. So that’s a whole other thing.

But I’m not one to tell a women how to dress. But that’s just it, they not women. These are some lil ass girls, not even the type that look older than their age. And they literally got barely there outfits on.

The outfits themselves might be cute in another situation and on different people. I won’t take that away. But they are not age appropriate for them. That’s the point. Your whole body on display and you not old enough or legal for anything (drinks) yet. But for me, it’s the fact that Diddy is comfortable enough to let them dress like that! Even if I were to give him the benefit of the doubt (he didn’t know they would be dressed like that or he talked to them but they so spoiled they wasn’t hearing it) regardless I feel like a father who has a real relationship with his daughters would have helped them with a much better outfit. I mean he had a whole fashion line. I’m sure he could have helped get them something better and more age appropriate but still with their style and personality infused. But then again, he’s dating women literally 5 or 6 years older than his own twin daughters, so probably not the right person to expect more of in that regard…but still. It makes me feel sad they don’t have their mother in their life or any stable female figure for that matter. You can be glam and still be age appropriate.

Good lord smh. Back to minding my business lol. But seeing that just triggered me. Got kids aspiring to be insta baddies before their time and it’s just crazy. And if they dressed like that now?! I hope someone has a talk with them before they hit 21 cause clearly it won’t be their father.

Edit: Funny how everyone seems to be more focused on the game and his daughter’s outfit. All tho in my opinion, compared to Diddy’s daughters, her outfit was waaay more tame. Maybe a bit short and the design borders on age inappropriate, but she had a big fur coat on so she wasn’t showing much. She just wanted to feel cute. But Definitely no “cleavage,” butt or abs on display like Diddy’s daughters. And yet the 12 year old is getting the most back lash.

I realize people seem to think 16 is “close enough”. Smh. Diddy is the only one who should be getting back lash to me. But America has this weird fetish with children. Oh protect the kids until their old enough to stare at. Which is apparently 16 and you’ll have men literally counting down the two years. That’s what makes their outfits so concerning to me. Like is he showing off to prospects? Waiting for someone to show interest so they can take the twins off his hands? Cause they do look and act expensive. (That’s his fault tho.) It sounds all very game of thrones and it seems that’s exactly what’s starting to cause society to think it’s normal for a 20 something or 30 something man to show interest in a 16 year old. I’m not saying that’s exactly what was happening at that party… but I mean Drake was there. That’s red flag one to me. Why all these grown men at a party for 16 year olds and on top of that the twins dressed like bottle service girls in the club on Halloween night?

Just protect the young girls is all I’m saying. Shit is wild.

If you’re wondering if you’re too old to trick or treat this year, friendly reminder that most houses will give out candy to ANYONE in a costume!

As a teen I was self conscious about trick or treating, worried that I wouldn’t get candy and that the other kids would make fun of me. If you’re worried others will make fun of you, remember:

—As a teen you can really go all out on your costumes (diving into cosplay)—which basically makes you amazing to the young-young kids. I went as Hyakkimaru last year from Dororo (if you haven’t seen it, it’s on Prime and it’s AMAZING!) and made working foam prosthetics. All the younger kids were so impressed even though they didn’t know who I was lol

—Also, FREE CANDY! It’s often taken for granted but do not!

—Freedom to do what you want (trick or treat, pass out candy, watch Halloween movies etc)

—Most teens go to parties but if you don’t like parties/weren’t invited to one, remember that most of those kids could make bad choices (drive drunk/high, etc) and while they might be having a good time, it’s much better to stay home and do what you want.

—Most adults would rather see teenagers trick or treating than going to parties. I’m not talking about just their parents, but all adults. Not cuz we’re boring or anything, but because we know what goes on and would much prefer to see teens having fun, going door to door in costume, knowing they’re safer trick or treating than getting drunk at a party.

In case you couldn’t tell by this point, yes, I was one of those teens. I never went to any parties (an honors classmate of mine went to a party, drove drunk and died in a car crash). I was so self-conscious about still going trick or treating as a 15/16yr old, but I realized it’s something I enjoyed and the older I got, the more I wanted to really make costumes, which is how I got into cosplay (I’m not great or anything, but for not being a seamstress/tailor, I’m not bad). It’s amazing to see younger kids awe at your costume because of all the hard work that was put into it.

I believe that this generation of kids are more accepting of older trick or treaters and actually enjoy it, but to anyone that is feeling self conscious, just know that if it’s something you love doing, no one will say anything. Someone asks if you’re still trick or treating? Yep! Show them your amazing costume! Not invited to a party/don’t want to go? Perfectly fine! Stay home and trick or treat/pass out candy and watch Halloween movies! I believe today’s the last day to watch the classic Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on AppleTV. I believe kids are different than when I was a teenager, but I thought I’d just put that out there for anyone wondering if they’re ‘too old’ to trick or treat.

In my experience, as long as you look like you’re wearing a costume, any house will give you candy, no matter the age. No one asks how old you are, they just ask what you are (if your costume isn’t very popular). I am 24 this year and I still trick or treat so I’ll let you all know if someone asks how old I am.

1. what is your muses sexuality ? : chad is a homoromantic demi-homosexual !

2. what gender does your muse identify as ? : cismale.

3. how long have they been aware of their sexuality and or gender ? : chad knew he was gay pretty much his entire life. he never had to think about it. he just knew "yeah i like boys" and that was that. he got kicked out of private school at age 10 for hospitalizing one of his bullies who called him a gay slur

4. do they have any preferences ? : not sure what this is asking, i assume it means gender preference ? but since my muse is gay it doesn't apply. 

5. share a positive memory of your muse coming out : chad came out to his brother and sister when he was ten. his parents found out chad was being called gay slurs at school after he hospitalized his bully. it was only fair he told his siblings. his sister took a while to wrap her head around the concept being younger, but she just wanted chad happy. his older brother was also extremely accepting of his brothers sexual identity. chad became even closer to his siblings that day.

6. how do they feel about pride month ? : chad loves pride month and is super obnoxious about celebrating it. he suppressed his sexuality throughout high school to avoid ridicule so like once he got away from that and felt more comfortable in his own skin. he is not shy about letting people know he is very happy to be gay.

7. do they participate in pride related events / any other events ? : my boy loves pride events. he went to his first pride parade in los angeles in university with his third boyfriend ( they were friends still at the time ) luca russo. chad wore the flag face paint and carried his little flag around. he was in awe of the festivities. he never had the guts to go to a parade before alone. 

since then chad has attended pride every year. even if he was single at the time. he does not miss a chance to embrace his identity.

8. how does your muse feel about lgbtq+ roles in media ? : seeing his community represented in media is very important to chad. as long as its done respectfully he is always happy to see queer folk in tv and movies. and like pretty much every person in the community, he hates queer baiting with a passion. the second he sniffs it chad will stop watching the program. he can tell  the difference between that and slow burn.

9. do they feel pride in who they are ? : chad struggled with his sexuality for a long time in fear of facing ridicule. it wasn't until he finally left home did he really embrace who he was. there was no reason to hide it anymore. in his adult life chad very much has pride for his sexuality and his community. 

hes heard stories from people in the past who wish they were different if only to stop the abuse. but chad has never wanted to be anyone else then the gay man he is. if given the chance he will provide a confidence booster in this regard. born this way by lady gaga is a huge inspiration for him.  ( yes i know it came out after he canonly died but on this blog we say fuck canon ) but lets clear the room, well chad is not insecure about his sexuality, he is overall stupidly insecure otherwise.

10. who has been your muses supportive idol in their self discovery ? : as chad didn't really have to struggle with finding his sexuality he never found reason to admire anyone. he does however look up to anyone who is comfortable with their identity and or a positive influence for the lgbtq+ community.

11. who was your muses first crush ? : chad was twelve when he started crushing on a boy in his history class. it wasn't anything more then wanting to hold his hand and sit next to him and smile. it was a fleeting fancy that chad got over in a short time. chad would often get soft feelings inside his chest for boys that would even simply smile at him.  but he once again would always suppress his desire for boys, never allowing himself to actually ask one out.

12. what advice does your muse have for lgbtq+ teens ? : if chad could go back and do it all again, he likely wouldn't have repressed himself. he would tell any teen in the community to never be afraid of who they are, if people didn't accept them then fuck those people. you are born who you are, and the real ones will love you for it.

13. has your muse come out to friends and family ? : yes he has. his parents and siblings know. ( see five ) chad never had friends really so there was no need to come out. most people who meet him in his college life onward, could just tell he was gay.

14. how does your muse feel about the phrase "coming out" ? :  chad sees this as letting your colours show. before you were kinda black & white like everyone else, the same, uniform. but then you let your colours come out & were seen as different.

15. do they believe there is a closet to come out of ? :  yes. the closet in his opinion is something you hide in until you feel safe to emerge. like if someone broke into your house, you hide until the danger has past. for some the danger might never pass, but if they stay in the closet forever they won’t have a chance to really live. sure they be alive but you won’t be living your life. being in the closet is safest, but its not really living. 

16. what's your muses biggest pet peeve when it comes to lgbtq+ characterization in media ? : harmful stereotypes. mostly because as a gay man chad can attest to certain things being common, and he knows he doesn't fit into a lot of those commonalities. particularly where sex is concerned. so it makes him a wee bit insecure. 

17. what's their favourite part when it comes to lgbtq+ characterization in media ? : finding someone he can relate too. he likes when gay men are portrayed for more reason then to be a token gay character. he likes a story with an actual backbone. something real. 

18. do they practice safe sex with the same gender ? : yes and no. he is very adamant about both parties being safe and comfortable but chad for most of his sexual career was a sub/bottom. he took it rather than gave it. his first boyfriend didn't like condoms, and chad being naive and fearful of him didn't ask him to wear one. the fact his boyfriend was uncovered was not what was making him the most uncomfortable so it wasn't really on his mind.

his following sexual relationship with boyfriend three fell into a similar pattern. chad didn't give he took,  and when he gave there was no coverage. since they were exclusive neither saw a need for protection. chad didn't see an issue with it.

boyfriend four insisted on wearing one most of the time, but since chad never penetrated him he never had to wear one.

patrick didn't give a fuck, a reason why chad insisted patrick wear a condom in the beginning of halloween part 1 cause he was worried about disease. in fact i hc they were unprotected until chad suspected cheating and got his boyfriend to cover up. although pat never asked chad too.

tldr; chad has little experience with protective sex but will always want to make things as safe as possible for his partner. so boy will wear the condom if asked.

19. what are their turn offs with the same gender ? what are their turn ons : turn ons are older men of authority. chad is very dominant in personality, but also has an extreme submissive side that can come out with the right partner. this part that longs to be taken care of is what attracts him to men in control. he also likes a man who knows what he wants, and has some culture behind him. ( talk dirty to him in another language and he will melt ) oh and praise is another huge turn on, he loves validation 

turn offs are pain. he doesn't like it. anything hardcore BDSM will have him running for the hills. no S&M. and anything demeaning, don't call him slut, whore etc. it makes him uncomfy. in terms of actual personality traits from men, anyone that acts like his first boyfriend ( leather biker, hot shot type ) will have him nopping out.

20. how does your muse feel about lgbtq+ clubs/apps/websites ? : this is a grey area for him as he is certainly in support of gay web content, its how its used that effects him. like, his experience with connecting with the community in any kind is limited to a general kink website which his boyfriend used to chest on him. so his feelings around that are a little uncomfortable. 

21. how do they feel about the term "queer" ? : chad has no issues with this word. he doesn't have anything deeper to say about it, other than it sounds close to queen in his opinion and he wears that label proud.

22. what tips would they give to heterosexual/cisgendered people looking to better understand the community and news surrounding it ? : chad would tell them to be open minded and not look at it with bias. forget about the hetronormative society you live in and just be open to another view. 

23. whats the most annoying question your muse has ever gotten for being lgbtq+ ? :  the most annoying question chad gets is when people ask who is the woman in the relationship. it really grinds his gears as something like that implies either he or his partner isn't a real man. it also makes him insecure as he is neither a masculine or effeminate gay. hes kinda of in between and it really rubs people the wrong way sometimes. because they expect him to act a certain way.

he acts gay, but hes more gay, and less gay depending on what people are seeing. so when people ask him if hes the man or the woman it brings out his rage over the fact that thats a homophobic af comment, and also his dilemma on what type of gay he is.

24. how do they feel about receiving questions about their sexuality and or gender ? : chad is overall not a super friendly person. i mean he can be, but his second language is bitch so be careful lol. so it really depends on who is asking and what they are asking. if a stranger is asking dumb shit he won't be inclined to give more than a "fuck off" but if someone he knows has some curiosities he wouldn't mind, depending on how invasive it is.

Someone Gets Hurt (Regina George x OC)// Mean Girls

A/N: It’s been a reallllll long while since I wrote anything on here, I know. But because of writetober, I guess I got some inspiration. I’ve been thinking about this OC for Mean Girls for not too long, but long enough to have a character in mind and a basic idea of what would happen in a full fic. For now, here’s an excerpt based on day one of this post for fictober! I might not write every day for the month, but I’ll try to do it every now and again or when inspiration allows. Summary: This takes place on Halloween night, just before Regina ruins Cady’s chances with Aaron Samuels (and also her chances with Cameron Pierce).

“It’ll be fun. Trust me.”

Famous last words, Cameron thought, but her gut feeling was washed out by the butterflies that erupted through her body. Once Regina grabbed her hand and pulled her further into the house, where most of her peers were getting shit-faced, it was like nothing else mattered.

Parties were never her thing; she would only go to make fun of people or take pictures for a yearbook project that didn’t really exist. But it was Halloween, a holiday that was all about candy and trick or treating - that is until you got older, and it became more about getting dressed in a sexy costume and putting your alcohol coated tongue down someone else’s throat.

Cameron tried to hide her face from the people around her. Regina wasn’t supposed to talk to her, let alone hold her hand in public. She was acting really strange tonight, especially after she texted Cameron when she knew she was with Janis and Damien. Cameron had to come up with some lame excuse of going home to check on her sister before biking her way to Aaron Samuel’s house.

Emergency, come quick. Followed by an address.

Regina and Cameron weren’t dating. They were…seeing each other. On an off, before school and after, at Regina’s house and at Cameron’s. Anyone with clear vision would be able to tell they weren’t “just hooking up”, but neither of the girls would admit that. No, they wouldn’t even admit it to themselves.

So now Cameron was following Regina into Aaron Samuel’s house, trying to hide her blush as she kept her eyes away from Regina’s very revealing bunny costume. And Cameron nearly forgot the text, the one where Regina claimed an emergency, because Regina was now pushing her into a bathroom and placing her strawberry lip gloss flavored lips on hers, taking Cam’s hand and moving it onto her waist. Cameron’s vision got foggy, and her mind went blank, and she did the only thing her body would let her: she kissed Regina back.

It took an unknown amount of minutes and a loud knock on the door to rip Cam out of her fog. Regina did the same, taking some time to apply more lip gloss (where did she even have that?) and walk out of the bathroom like she wasn’t just making out with a very confused Cameron.

Cam, though, was pretty used to this. And the fact that they were “just hooking up” made up for Regina’s sometimes emotionless attitude. But this time, her kisses felt strange, almost desperate. Cameron couldn’t put her finger on it, but she exited the bathroom soon after and wandered around the teen filled halls, dodging other make-outs and excited drunken slurs.

What she didn’t expect to see was Regina and Aaron talking. Last time Cameron checked, the two weren’t really on speaking terms. Cameron blinked as Regina turned on her typical charm. She didn’t really react, to be honest. The party was super loud and maybe she wasn’t seeing right, maybe it was in her head. But that was all shoved away when Regina leaned on her tippy toes and kissed Aaron, planting the same strawberry lip gloss that Cameron could still taste, on his lips.

Cameron should have looked away when Regina kissed him, she should have looked away when Aaron kissed her back. She should have looked away when Regina made eye contact with a scarily dressed Cady, who watched in almost the same horror as Cameron. Finally, Cameron decided she couldn’t see it anymore. She bolted from her spot and pushed through the bodies to escape to fresh air, to freedom. She hopped on her bike and pedaled as fast and far away from that house as she could, hoping the wind would dry the tears that were uncontrollably falling from her face.

What are their good and bad traits: Mikhail is extremely creative and expressive, but he also occasionally just... expresses all over people, if that makes sense. Illyana is cunning and clever, but definitely runs the end of being too ruthless at times.

Do they have any artistic talent: Yes! Mikhail plays guitar, Illyana plays violin, and Mikhail is actually quite gifted with theater and crafting.

What is their favourite room to be in, in the house they live in: The two of them move around a bit, since they can teleport and take jobs almost wherever, provided they speak the language. Illyana prefers anywhere quiet (usually her room), and Mikhail generally likes being in the middle of everything.

If so, who, and what makes them their best friend: Illyana is friends/eventual partners with Kitty and Lorna, who accept her for her full Slytherin self, blunt edges and all. Mikhail winds up striking quite the (platonic only) camaraderie with Neena, since they both have similar outlooks on life.

What does their relationship with their family look like? Are they close? Distant? Ect: Mikhail kinda runs the end of being a little estranged, due to some of his “less than legal” pastimes and sensitivity. He’s closest with Nikolai, then Illyana, then Alexandra, then Piotr. As he gets older, gets treatment for his bipolar disorder and the support he needs, and becomes more confident in himself, he’s able to repair those relationships. Illyana... is as close as she wants to be with her family.

Do they have a pet: Illyana, Kitty, and Lorna foster cats together.

Do they have a familiar: Still don’t know what that is, so no.

Are they a supernatural being: You could make the argument that Illyana, as the Sorceress Supreme of Limbo and wielder of the Soul Sword, has some supernatural aspects to her. The supernatural thing about Mikhail, though, is his morning breath. #stank

How do they usually wear their hair: Illyana wears hers down most of the time, and Mikhail usually wears his in a man bun.

Can they play an instrument? If so, what instrument and what can they play: Illyana plays the violin and Mikhail plays the guitar, and they play a lot of rock music/covers together.

What type a high schooler are/were they: Illyana was the art student who managed to get good grades, and Mikhail was the kid that lived in detention.

Have they ever been in a physical fight before? If so, with who? Who won: Yep. They’ve had several, wins and losses, whole nine yards.

Where is their dream vacation: Mikhail’s idea of a dream vacation is throwing a dart at a map and making the most of an experience. Illyana’s idea of a dream vacation is not having to deal with either of her brothers.

Do they know more than one language: Yes. Mikhail is conversational in several languages due to his travels, and speaks Russian fluently (obvs). Illyana picks up English as she gets older, and also speaks Russian.

you said you preferred trilogies or series’ (which i don’t read much of tbh) so here are a few of my favorites: (( some of these will have full on summaries and some… not so much, i got lazy lol ))

The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout : Meet Katy and Daemon! Katy is a funny, down-to-earth book blogger who has just moved to West Virginia. And Daemon? Well, he’s her hot and arrogant next-door neighbor. He’s also an alien. This one is cheesy, yeah, but it’s so FUN! Follow along as Katy and Daemon try to figure out what they mean to each other while trying not to get killed by the Arum; the Lumen’s enemy. In this world, the DOD is well aware that aliens exist and that they live on Earth. However, they are unaware that the aliens known as Luxen actually possess powers that make them.. well… powerful beyond means. This isn’t just a romance story; it focuses on family and friendships and it has a bunch of kick ass action and the entire plot with the DOD is so interesting. 

The Pine Deep Series by Jonathan Maberry ; I’m only on the first book but this one is a bit more mature in terms of horror and things like that. If you like scary books or feel like being spooky in time for Halloween, you should definitely check this one out! 

The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare : I’m sure you know about this one, but if you don’t! Angels, demons, warlocks, vampires, faeries, werewolves? What more could you want? When Clary Fray discovers she’s actually a Shadowhunter; an appointed warrior of the Angel Raziel and has angel blood coursing through her veins, her life is about to change forever. Join her and the rest of the Shadowhunter gang (and even a few others) as they team up to rescue her mom and stop an all out war from happening. 

The Darkest Minds Series by Alexandra Bracken ; I’m only on the first book but I absolutely love it! It’s an intense read that has me on the edge of my seat constantly. I adore Ruby and she’s easily become one of my favorite female characters of all time. 

Dorothy Must Die Series by Danielle Paige ; Okay. I know, I know. Really? Dorothy Must Die? Hear me out! This book is FUN. Trashy? Perhaps, but fun! The first book is really fast paced and honestly? I am living for a world where Dorothy is evil. So basically our main character is named Amy and she is the other girl from Kansas. She’s sent to Oz to save it from Dorothy Gale who has become power hungry and is now pure evil along with the Tin-Man, the Lion, and the Scarecrow. The rest of the series doesn’t really live up to the first book, but I would say you should read the first one anyway. It’s a lot of fun. 

Did I Mention I Love You Series by Estelle Maskame: Sixteen-year-old Eden Munro decides to spend the summer with her father in Santa Monica as her parents are divorced now. Once there, she meets her father’s new family and that includes Tyler Bruce; her new asshole step brother with a short temper and a huge ego but as she gets to learn more about him, she finds herself falling for him. This trope isn’t for everyone and I know the whole step sibling thing is super taboo but this series is awesome and I read it during a huge reading slump and it really helped me get though it. 

Perfect Chemistry Series by Simone Elkeles: When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she’s worked so hard for―her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more. (Each book in this series focuses on a different Fuentes brother.)

Fighting to Be Free Series by Kirsty Moseley: Jamie Cole has just been released from juvenile detention. Jamie’s life is already more complicated than it needs to be, yet it’s when he meets a beautiful stranger at a bar that Jamie knows he’s really in over his head. Their attraction is overwhelming and intense - she can’t seem to shake her growing feelings for him, even though she’s trying to keep it casual. Mind if I drop in a few stand alone’s? I’m trying to read more series’ but I’ve always been more of a stand alone kind of girl, so here are some of my current favs: 

#MurderTrending by Gretchen McNeil : WELCOME TO THE NEAR FUTURE, where good and honest citizens can enjoy watching the executions of society’s most infamous convicted felons, streaming live on The Postman app from the suburbanized prison island Alcatraz 2.0. When seventeen-year-old Dee Guerrera wakes up in a haze, lying on the ground of a dimly lit warehouse, she realizes she’s about to be the next victim of the app. Knowing hardened criminals are getting a taste of their own medicine in this place is one thing, but Dee refuses to roll over and die for a heinous crime she didn’t commit. Can Dee and her newly formed posse, the Death Row Breakfast Club, prove she’s innocent before she ends up wrongfully murdered for the world to see? Or will The Postman’s cast of executioners kill them off one by one?

One Small Thing by Erin Watt : Meet Beth and Chase. Beth is entering her senior year and is still trying to move on from the death of her older sister three years ago. In a small town with parents who have suddenly become her wardens; that seems nearly impossible. And then she meets the mysterious and hot Chase who immediately draws her in. Their attraction is instant and he’s the first person who makes her feel like Beth Jones and not Lizzie; the young girl who lost a sister and is somehow broken by it. But as she falls harder for Chase, she’s hit with the reality of the part he played in her sister’s death. It’s about forgiveness, love, and moving on. It’s sad and sweet and such a fun, quick read. Definitely good for trying to get out of a slump! 

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren :  Fangirl meets Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in this funny and poignant coming-of-age novel from New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren about two boys who fall in love in a writing class—one from a progressive family and the other from a conservative religious community. If you read one book off of this list, PLEASE let it be this one. This book is so… amazing. It’s been months and I still think about it constantly. 

Fault Line by C. Desir : Trigger WARNING: THIS BOOK CONTAINS A RAPE. It is not shown, but it’s the main conflict in the book. Over the years I have struggled with if I liked this book because it was good or if I liked it because of how much it fucked me up. I read this book in one sitting and when I finished, I sat in my bed for a good hour and just…. didn’t move or do anything. You will NOT be rooting for the main couple. The narrator is unlikable and you will HATE all the characters in this book. The ending is NOT happy and I don’t know why I’m recommending this but GOD. This book, after so many years, just stuck with me because of how fucked up it was. It deals with the whole “recovery” process in such a dark way that we normally don’t see in YA fiction and I think that’s what makes it stand out so much. If you want something darker, read this. But read it with caution. If this isn’t something you like then please, don’t bother reading it. It’s not happy and it’s sure as shit not fluffy. Summary : Ben could date anyone he wants, but he only has eyes for the new girl—sarcastic free-spirit Ani. Luckily for Ben, Ani wants him too. She’s everything Ben could ever imagine. Everything he could ever want. But that all changes after the party. The one Ben misses. The one Ani goes to alone. Now Ani isn’t the girl she used to be, and Ben can’t sort out the truth from the lies. What really happened, and who is to blame? Ben wants to help her, but she refuses to be helped. The more she pushes Ben away, the more he wonders if there’s anything he can do to save the girl he loves.

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero : If you like Scooby-Doo or Archie’s Weird Mysteries this book is probably for you. 1990. The teen detectives once known as the Blyton Summer Detective Club are all grown up and haven’t seen each other since their fateful, final case in 1977. Andy, the tomboy, is twenty-five and on the run, wanted in at least two states. Kerri, one-time kid genius and budding biologist, is bartending in New York, working on a serious drinking problem. At least she’s got Tim, an excitable Weimaraner descended from the original canine member of the team. Nate, the horror nerd, has spent the last thirteen years in and out of mental health institutions, and currently resides in an asylum in Arhkam, Massachusetts. The only friend he still sees is Peter, the handsome jock turned movie star. The problem is, Peter’s been dead for years.The time has come to uncover the source of their nightmares and return to where it all began in 1977. This time, it better not be a man in a mask. The real monsters are waiting. 

Fatal Throne by Candace Fleming ; A book about Henry VIII and his six wives. If you like historical fiction then this book might be for you! It’s told through the perspective of his six wives (and even Henry himself) and it’s a really fascinating read.

Since the questionnaire was about MC, and this is not about MC, I’m putting it as my own personal whining/rambling

More of:

- Humanize the men more. The overly-nice MC is flat and it gets tiresome, but I also feel that the men are not human either. They’re romantic tropes and the reactions are hyperbolic. Now I know it’s romance and it’s all in good fun, but doesn’t mean that you can’t take into consideration the heavy stuff in the development process.

Been thinking this for a while, but I think it would help to, you know, talk to people with PTSD or anxiety or depression. Culture not withstanding, they’re still people. Surely they do still experience anxiety and depression and PTSD, despite war/killing being “normal”?

It would help to create a more subtle narrative, and not just dramatic yelling and flailing and angst. Especially if the otome already contains mature element (sex/violence/etc) and would be aimed to teens or older. Don’t undermine the readers’ intelligence.

- An expansion of the “please use obscure historical facts” note from the previous post. I know there’s a tendency to keep using the same darn stuff as long as it still works, but maaan, after a few times of the same repetitive trope, I want something new?

For example... I read once that Yukimura was recorded to be very patient and don’t get angry often. “Hothead” and “obsessively loyal to Shingen” is cool the first 2-3 times, now please stop. Sengoku Basara doesn’t have to dictate all your Sengoku lord characterization.

And as much I have distaste for “evil Hideyoshi” theories, I’m fascinated with the idea of a sinister Hideyoshi in fiction. Sinister Akechi is cool and great and stuff, but why not have a sinister Hide sometimes? One time, he felt he had to atone for his mistakes to Nobu by... torching many castles and killing lots of people. Despite Nobu telling him to stop and go home, he kept on going.

- My eternal bias is “lord’s sons” so one day I wish I can have an otome where I date them aha. Uesugi Kagekatsu is not Kenshin’s biological son, so he’s been appearing quite a bit lately, but what about the other lords? *sigh* They’ve branched out to adding less-famous lords into the otome roster lately, so... you know...

Like, for all we’ve heard about Kenshin and Shingen’s frienemy thing going on, I once read that Kenshin actually likes Shingen’s son Katsuyori more? Could be dubious info, but I’m game with that as long as it makes for a good story.

And speaking of Katsuyori, the final Oda-Takeda showdown was actually mostly between the sons, not Shingen and Nobu. While Nobu was probably around, the main commander of the Oda camp was Nobu’s heir.  

Dislike:

- Era mix ups: I reaaaaaally don’t like the tendency to mix up Edo era stuff into Sengoku story.

Unfortunately, during the Edo bakufu, there was something of a ban placed about discussing Sengoku era in general (for fear of undermining the shogun or something). Hence, people had to “sneak in” Sengoku references in “historical fiction”, and it wasn’t uncommon for Nobunaga to end up being named as “Harunaga” or something like that. Those fiction stuck around for so long that a lot of people still confuse that “traditional stories” with truth. Even if it’s fiction, it’s still 200 years old fiction.

There’s also a lot of items, themes, concepts that would not have been around in Sengoku because it’s invented in later Edo era. But people weren’t aware of that, and so just shove it in thinking there’s no difference.

Extremely modern concepts for fanservice/LOL purposes I’m game with, like chocolates or Halloween or Christmas parties or birthdays or modernish elements in clothing. But specific items or food are just... jarring to me because it’s like “this should not be here”.  

An example is in SLBP they mentioned they were playing Douchuu Sugoroku, a board game featuring the paintings of Hiroshige, a famed ukiyo-e artist active in 1800s. Nobunaga and the guys are from the 1500s. Woops?

- Rude MC: This is more of a case of the localization/translation, because “sassy MCs” are not quite so sassy in other language localization.

There is a difference between being indignant/not taking bullshit and overstepping your boundaries. It may be fine for players with different cultural background, but I was raised to think that acting that way is being incredibly rude. It’s “unprofessional” or “immature”. This is not your average dudes, these are men with power.

I mean, if I get to meet, say, the president, I am not to speak to him with snark and snide no matter how I think he sucks. In the Sengoku era, these lords are pretty much kings. You don’t sass them, you don’t bitchslap them, you don’t yell at them. Especially if you are nobody special, you have no right to do that. It’s to the point where sometimes I wonder why MC isn’t dead yet.

It also causes a bit of character inconsistency, because despite her sassy talk, her actions are often still the earnest/helpful attitude of “typical” MCs. The localization team may change her dialogue, but they can’t change her actions.

- Everything Is War: Warlords are warlords, but they do politics too, you know. Nobody likes politics in their otome games, I guess, but... at least SOME semblance of court intrigue is cool? MC doesn’t have to participate in the politics, MC doesn’t have to hear the politics. So just... have imperial court attendants come for a visit? Have the lord go visit the emperor/court for XYZ business? 

Azuchi castle has this one room that Nobu ordered to be inlaid with gold specifically reserved for imperial visitations. Later Hideyoshi “copied” it to some extent, and built the portable tearoom covered in gold to entertain the emperor.  Nobu was offered the seat of shogun at some point too. The Date has close enough relations to the Shogun, that for some generations the family head was named after the Shogun. Date Harumune, from shogun Yoshiharu. Date Terumune, from shogun Yoshiteru. Masamune would probably have been named “Akimune” if Nobu hadn’t kicked out the shogun before Masa came of age. 

And if it’s a lala-land like Ikesen, EVEN BETTER. Just make up something. European style fantasy princes can have balls, Sengoku lords can have their banquets for noblemen. It doesn’t have to be stiff and nerve-wracking. It can just be a very fancy dinner. 

What, is it so taboo to mention the emperor? It’s boring? It’s less fun? Is constant war more fun?

teaches guitar and piano lessons for a living when he grows up. he’s classically trained and goes to berklee after high school.

he plays drums in school band in middle school and is on the drum line for three years in high school. also plays bass for the jazz band.

started skateboarding when he was six and when they leave the city for the country, rosa designs him a mini ramp on their land since the roads are mostly gravel or dirt.

he doesn’t mind working on the farm but he’s not into it like his dad is. but when he’s eighteen, buzz shows him the greenhouse where he grows medical marijuana for local dispensaries - which had always been strictly off limits for the kids. it’s the first time jake thinks of agriculture as fun.

very quiet and introspective. most of his focus is spent on his music. frequently referred to as antisocial and was teased a lot as a kid.

lilia hannah “lily” goldman 

born may 21, 2026

very skilled artist. loves drawing and painting. she draws on the walls a lot as a little kid and her parents never ever paint over her drawings. they love to talk about her masterpieces.

could be found every morning before anyone else woke up watching cartoons in the living room. loved cartoons so much.

loves “old” (old in the 2030s) cartoons her parents show her. she dresses as finn the human for halloween four years in a row. 

draws cartoons all the time about her family. which her dad loves so much and always hangs on the fridge.

the first one she does is of buzz with a beard of bees when she’s three and he keeps it in his wallet forever

fridge features include grumpy old man jake and rosa as a superhero called supermama who appears multiple times 

becomes an animator when she grows up

very bubbly and optimistic, excited about everything but also very bashful and is constantly embarrassed by her family

to be fair she’s very awkward and usually embarrasses herself more than her family does

hates disappointing people and always takes too much on her plate to make everyone happy

is constantly way too hard on herself and gets stressed out very easily

she gets this from her mother, who can always tell when lily gets in that mood and tears her away from her homework to watch animated movies and decompress

sophia demetria goldman

born november 4, 2027

fraternal twin of silvia

they couldn’t be more different and they aren’t that close but sophia always stands up for sil no matter what.

total daddy’s girl. loves working in the fields with him more than anything. they talk for hours.

they spend so much time gossiping. buzz knows so much about the social hierarchy of every class sophia is in. he knows about every snotnose kid who was mean to his daughter and gives them dirty looks when he drops the kids off or sees them at birthday parties. 

she tells buzz basically everything about her life. they’re super close.

when she goes to college she makes buzz get whatever device they use in 2046 so they can message all the time. he iris messages her every time anyways.

goes to the farmer’s market with buzz every weekend and is always a smash hit with the customers. she knows how to play up her cuteness.

she’s just like the nicest, sweetest, most well-behaved kid. buzz and rosa have no clue how it happened.

loves flowers and gardening. they didn’t have a flower garden before sophia expressed interest, but buzz set it up just for her. she spends so much of her free time there. even if she’s not gardening, she has a hammock set up where she’ll do her homework or hang out.

ridiculously caring and selfless. 

the sweetest nicest bean ever. would not hurt a fly.

so smart. not just in school but rosa swears she got 100% of the athena wisdom gene. she gives amazing advice. 

ends up becoming a therapist when she grows up. and her home garden is magnificent.

silvia atenea “sil” goldman

born november 4, 2027

fraternal twin of sophia

she prefers “sil” to silvia

got buzz’s crazy curls

loves loves loves animals, bugs, and biology. has to be told several times by her parents to stop hanging out with wild animals on the farm and still doesn’t really listen.

she sneaks insects inside that end up escaping and it’s no fun for anyone. she did this with a snake once and got grounded for a month. never again.

whatever it is it usually ends up in sophia’s bed because they share a bunkbed. sophia has a complete meltdown every single time.

talks to caterpillars and chases butterflies when she’s supposed to be picking vegetables. also loves playing in the dirt as a kid.

seriously buzz and rosa have to wash her like three times a day because she keeps coming back inside covered in mud

reads all the time, mostly nonfiction books about animals. 

she enthusiastically shows pages about inchworm digestion to sophia, who screeches immediately

doesn’t get along great with her sisters but is super close with jake (also adam to an extent because they’re both science geeks). they’re both kind of social outcasts in school so he gets her really well even though he’s nine years older.

jake shows sil metal and she’s all about it

when she’s 10-11 and he’s 19-20 jake takes her to a couple of his shows and she has the time of her life.

on the spectrum. she’s has high-functioning autism. she mostly just doesn’t look people in the eye and when someone is saying something she’s not interested in she tends to tune them out completely.

tomboy/gender non-conforming. doesn’t care about gender norms.

not very interested in other people or in making friends. she has her own thing going on instead.

can be mean but it’s not on purpose

ends up becoming a wildlife biologist when she grows up. plays the doctor card nonstop as soon as she gets her phd. even her nieces and nephews call her “dr. auntie sil”

amalia michelle goldman

born july 12, 2029

her family often calls her ‘mali/molly’ but she prefers amalia

the most dramatic of the six kiddos because there’s too many of them and it’s really hard to get attention. she’s the kid who always has to cause a scene.

car rides are a nightmare. “mama! adam keeps poking me! tell him to stop right now!” “no i’m not! tattle!” “mama if adam keeps poking me i’m going to open the door and get out on the street and probably die!”

every time she gets sick as a kid she acts as if she’s going to die and writes a will where she leaves her jerk siblings nothing because they’re jerks who suck 

had a grudge against adam until he was like six because he usurped her as the baby of the family.

there’s an infamous family video of a five year old amalia pushing a crying two year old adam off his tricycle and it gets played at every hannukah and christmas.

somehow around the time they’re about 7/9 they actually become friends

your typical try hard nerd. very much like her mom. gets over-competitive about everything, total know it all, tries to take control of any room she’s in

president of like every nerdy club in high school

she loves using difficult vocabulary. everybody else hates it.

amalia and rosa have been prohibited from being on the same team or going 1v1 on family game night because it gets too intense too fast and then family game night is cancelled

consistently has the cleanest bedroom in the house

very logical and efficient. comes up with her own systems so she can be the best at everything.

becomes an english teacher. all her siblings say they feel bad for her students. she eventually becomes a principal. they say the same thing about the entire school.

adam emiliano goldman

born february 14, 2032

total mama’s boy. loves his mom and hangs out with her all the time. even in his teens. he doesn’t care what anyone says about that.

she calls him lovebug because he was born on valentines day

very smart, witty, and energetic

really a heartbreaker tbh

naturally gets attention by just who he is as a person

this enrages amalia

he loves school but always gets sent to the office for arguing with teachers. this happens throughout his entire schooling from kindergarten to senior year

rosa is so proud every time

very into his video games. and this is in the future so i bet it’s super cool and VR by then.

weirdly good at rapping and most of the family’s kinda unsure how they feel about this

gets into 90s east coast rap and buzz tell him he was there he was a toddler but he was there

he listens to so much old school rap it really amps him up

isn’t intimidated by anyone. constantly stands up to bullies no matter who they’re targeting.

he get’s buzz’s height - ends up being even taller at 6′4″ - and gets pretty good at basketball. he even goes to college on a basketball scholarship.

buzz hangs a hoop in the driveway and they play so much

buzz sees him playing basketball on tv for the first time and cries real dad tears
