I don't even go here, so sorry for any inaccuracies. But just....Picture this:
Buck and Tommy are dating now, right? And Eddie has feelings about that, but he is steadfastly not thinking about it. Instead, he is choosing to focus on his relationship with Marisol, and isn't it weird how that isn't going well right now for some reason?
Anyways, Christopher finds out about Buck and Tommy somehow, and he confronts his dad about it when they're alone. I imagine he says something along the lines of "So Buck is dating Tommy now?" And when Eddie confirms, he says, "I don't understand. " Cue Eddie spiraling because he thought he raised his son to be accepting, and he's never had a problem with gay people before, and now he's going to have to explain bisexuality to his son. And he's started with "Well, some people like both men and women -" But Christopher totally cuts him off with all of the sass of a young teenager. "I know about bi people, Dad." Bonus points if he says one of his friends or girlfriends is bi and/or gives him the definition of bisexuality and how it's two "or more" genders. And being absolutely schooled by his kid throws Eddie off even more. Chris then continues with, "What I don't understand is, if Buck likes guys....Why is he dating Tommy and not you?" Boom, bomb dropped. Eddie can no longer push off his sexuality crisis. It's happening now.
There's a whole fic here, but I've never been able to write an actual fic, so maybe someone with that gift can take this and run with it. And tag me if they do.
I want to make it clear that this is no hate to Tommy, and I'm not trying to insinuate that Chris would have a problem with him in any way. I like Tommy, I like what we've seen of him with Buck. It's cute, and I wish them the best. It's more just, Buddie endgame, ya know?

No thoughts, head empty except for that new S7 trailer.
Complete
all things go, all things go. by dylaesthetics (Post-S5E10 Wrapped in Red | 11K | Teen): “He doesn’t hate you for transferring,” says Hen, as though reading his mind. “But the guy thinks everything’s his fault. He probably blames himself for it.” “Why would he? It was solely my choice,” says Eddie. It doesn’t make any sense. “I’m the one who got shot and had to live with the consequences.” Hen considers him, her eyes a bit sharp. “And he’s the one who watched that happen to you, and couldn’t do anything to prevent it from happening. It might be your trauma, Eddie, but it is also his.”
🔥 the distance to the stars by cloudydaisies (Didn't Know They Were Dating, Post-S3 | 27K | General): or, everyone knows eddie is dating buck except for eddie, literally.

The team are scattered—Bobby and Athena on their Honeymoon, Hen on adoptive parent's leave, and Buck and Eddie... They may still work together, still have movie nights with Chris whenever they can, but things have changed. With Maddie and Chimney's wedding around the corner, Buck tries to make it perfect. And maybe, along the way, he might figure out why everything still feels... wrong.
come back by lecornergirl/ @clusterbuck (Christopher POV, Tsunami | 1,6K | Teen): “Okay, Christopher,” Gabriella says. “Let’s try and find your dad, huh? Or your mom?” “My dad is a firefighter,” Christopher says. “He’s helping people. And my mom—” he blinks. “My mom isn’t here. We have to find Buck.” “I haven’t seen him,” Gabriella says, her voice a little sad. “There was nobody else with you when we saw you. But we can look for him together, okay?”
🔥 hey baby (i think i wanna marry you) by asteriasera / @asteriasera (Post-S6, Established Buddie, Proposal | 13K | Teen): Two months into officially dating Eddie, Buck begins to plan the perfect, extravagant proposal that his boyfriend deserves. As usual, nothing goes according to plan

WIP
🔥 Any Other Way by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon Divergent, S2 | 3/18 | 20K | Mature): In a switcheroo alternate universe, Buck spends young adulthood in the military, while Eddie, who has no idea Christopher exists, spends his twenties messing around, finally enjoying freedom away from his family’s expectations. When they both end up in Los Angeles, at the 118, some things are different, and others will be the same in any universe.
🔥 because we'll all arrive in heaven alive by callmenewbie/ @puppyboybuckley (Post-S6, Disaster Fic | 5/9 | 33K | Explicit): During a search and rescue, Eddie disappears without a trace, leaving Buck to grapple with the sudden possibility of a life without him.

Where is the promised romcom?
So I’ve been mulling something over in my head for days now. In one of his cameos/interview Lou said that Tim called him up to play Tommy again and that he would eventually get involved with Buck. He said that Tim wanted to create some kind of a romcom situation for Buck. (Did Tim mention the same thing in an interview somewhere? Or did I just make that up in my head? I’m not sure. I thought he said something in the same vein, but I might be wrong. Not that it’s relevant to this post.)
Well, where is the romcom?
Buck and Tommy basically met in 7x03, exchanged one simple look and then nothing until 7x04 where he spent all of this time obsessing over Eddie having a new friend, only to reveal in the end that he liked Tommy. (Which… really? Even Tommy was all ‘My attention?’ Are you sure about that?) Cue Buck and Tommy kiss. Then in 7x05 they go on a very awkward date. Buck ends up saying something very dumb, so Tommy leaves. In the end he asks him to meet for coffee and they reconcile. (Then Buck proceeds to be dumb again as he asks Tommy to be his date to his sister’s wedding. Which is sooo not a good idea for a second date. But whatever.) I’m sure we’ll see them being cute together at the wedding and there might even be a dance and/or kiss. But it’s all so bland and uninteresting. Where's the chemistry? Where’s the tension?
So again, where is the romcom in this scenario?
Compare it to this:
Buck and Eddie meet in season 2. When Buck sees Eddie for the first time ‘Whatta man’ is playing as introduction music. There is some hostility at first, but they get over it pretty quickly. They become fast best friends that help each other through hardships. They support each other through the lawsuit (which hurts their friendship, but only briefly), the tsunami, the firetruck falling on top of Buck’s leg, the shooting, the Eddie breakdown, different relationships… They are there for each other, through everything. Buck also forms a very tight bond with Eddie’s son: Christopher.
Next to that, they are there for each other on an emotional level. They understand each other better than anyone else. They’re like two peas in a pod.
So basically, they are a unit at this point. Sure, they still see each other as best friends, but that isn’t a problem, because best friends realise they’re in love with each other all the time in romcoms.
This is such a great set up for a romcom. They love each other through and through, but never considered there might be more to it. (Although I still headcanon that Eddie knows exactly how he feels about Buck. He has known since the shooting. But that’s neither here nor there.) Now one of them comes out as bisexual (which again YAY!) and the other will be forced to rethink their relationship. Eddie will see Buck and Tommy together and he will be confronted with them at the wedding. Romcom-wise this could be an excellent opportunity to introduce some feelings of discomfort in Eddie, when he sees them together. Or they could go with the romcom trope of the current ‘boyfriend’ (Even though Tommy isn’t his boyfriend yet. They haven’t even gone out on a second date.) realising that his love interest is completely gone over his best friend and gently remind him of that or make him realise that’s what it is. Or maybe they will reveal to us that Eddie has been aware of his feelings all this time, he just didn’t think he ever stood a chance with Buck.
There are so many ways to go with this scenario. If it’s just bucktommy, there is no real romcom scenario to explore. But if you add Buddie to that story, it just becomes so much more interesting and potentially romcommy (Is that even a word?).
This isn’t saying that Eddie (nor Buck for that matter) doesn’t still have a lot to unpack in his personal life and that everything will be peachy with Buck as soon as they realise they are into each other, but it will set up a great narrative for them to try to ‘hide’ their feelings from each other, telling other people while trying to act ‘normal’ when they’re spending time together. Eddie still thinking bucktommy are together, when in reality they have become just friends. Buck thinking that Eddie would never be interested in him because he is ‘straight’. Endless romcom scenarios to choose from right there.
Finally, I know there has been a rumour going around that Buck won’t be able to afford his loft anymore and he’ll move in with Eddie. It’s just speculation based on a few random facts and observations, but I swear, if we get this scenario? I will ascend! It would be the peak romcom scenario: Two friends moving in together while one of them (or maybe both?) is still possibly in a relationship? I have seen this movie before, many times. And let me tell you… the people forced to co-habit because of outside circumstances? They always end up together.
TLDR, in the end, in a romcom you want the audience to cheer on the couple with the deepest connection and chemistry. The superficial love interest (Which fits Tommy to a T. I mean, what do we even know about the guy? Nothing, only that he is brought in to help Buck out of the closet. What does Buck know about him? Not a lot. He hardly spends time with him before he gets kissed by him.) never turns out to be ‘the one’.
I don’t know guys. All of this just makes so much sense to me. Only time will tell if I’m right (or wrong).

It was a normal day at the 118 for the most part. If anything a strangely quiet day. Everyone was sat down for dinner as Buck fantasized about Bobby’s Mac and cheese tuning everyone out.
“BUCK!” A voice shouted. He didn’t need to process the voice he immediately knew who said it. With a quick glance around the table looking for his boy he finds Christopher. He stands up and Chris runs into his arms. There is a moment where buck wants to remind him that his dad is in fact with them but they all knew that. Whatever the reason he was there for he was there for Buck and no one questioned it. Well buck did a little.
“What’s going on?” Buck asked suspiciously. If you asked Buck he would tell you your wrong but everyone else saw the way bucks hands and eyes roamed over Chris’ small figure. Panic, worry, and admiration seeping through his gaze like a dam breaking loose.
“I asked Carla to bring me here.” Chris smiled up at Buck. Almost proud he convinced the woman to bend to his will. Little does he know Chris could have called Buck and he would pick him up himself. Buck knows he needs to not be the fun guy right now though.
“Christopher you can’t leave school cause you wanna come here. You could have head over after school but I need you to understand that school is very important.” Buck didn’t think too much about what he was saying because to be honest he was saying it to remind himself. It had been a while since he had last seen him. For the last few weeks it has been ft and phone calls at night but that was it.
“Buck. You need a couch before you say anything like that to me again.” The attitude in those words was one hundred percent his dad. As he tried to remember the last time he made a joke like that he calls Carla to the table and pulls a seat beside him for his kid.
“Are you here just to humiliate me? Your dad has that covered.” He shoots a playful glare at Eddie. Eddie isn’t paying attention to the words spoken just the way Buck and Chris are interacting. Like it’s a new thing he has never experienced.
“No. I want you to hear me out before you say anything,” Christopher starts slowly, “ I was talking with some friends and they mentioned that their parents let them stay a week or so at their other parents house and I wanna stay with you for a week.” Chris cautiously starts. He doesn’t feel how Buck stopped breathing. He doesn’t see the shock on chim and Henriettas face. He doesnt see the way Bobby and Carla look at Buck. He doesn’t notice the way Eddie looks at him. “You can clearly take care of me: you did it when dad was shot. I think I can handle the snoring. I miss you and I haven’t seen you in forever and it feels like you’re leaving and I can’t handle that buck. I can’t loose you too.” For all the things Chris ignores, Buck can’t ignore the tears in Chris’ eyes as the words roll off his tongue.
“Chris… they are talking about their mom and dads. You have a mom and you have a dad. If you miss me just come over. I will make a weekend of it and you can take my bed and I will take the couch okay. I just need you to remember I am not trying to be a replacement for your dad. I’m not your father Chris but trust me your dad is so lucky to be yours. Leaving you….leaving you isn’t an option for me. You’re my soul. As soon as I met you I knew there was never gonna be a choice I make where you weren’t involved.” Buck tried not to look at the young man. He just couldn’t. He needed him to know that he would never ever leave. The images of all the people who left him flash through his mind and when the idea of Chris came about he couldn’t breathe. It’s not normal to care this much for a kid that’s not your own. He doesn’t think of him as a nephew or a brother but he is still the most important person in his life.
“What’s a dad buck?” It wasn’t a genuine question. But he wanted a genuine awnser.
“A dad. That is the person who fights for you. You know he is always on your team. If you’re in a bad situation you know he will drop everything just to get to you. He loves you endlessly and supports you through everything. From homework to bailing you out of jail. You know he will never intend to harm you and will kill anyone who tries.” Chris’ arms are around him and he is shaking. Buck holds him not coming close to understanding what’s going on but knowing what he needs. If he wants to tell him he will.
“The tusnami, you thought you didn’t protect me.” Chris remembers the way Buck tried to save others. Buck remembers going to Bobby’s that night and sobbing against him while Athena reassured him how his boy was safe at home. Buck had rambled nonsense the entire night about what could have happened. He is brought back to reality by the small hands on his face. Holding steady, the way you would approach a stray dog. Unsure of if you’re going to scare it off or not. Turning his body to face Christopher’s he takes his hands and places it on his heart. Remembering the way Maddie used to do that to show that her heart was his. The same way Bucks heart is his. “You saved me over and over again. When I went overboard I thought that was it. You jumped though. You came after me to find me. You did everything you could to keep me with you. When my dad was in the hospital you didn’t leave me to go with Carla. You immediately took care of me. I hear the comments people make. That you are a kid yourself. You can’t be a dad.” Buck knows it’s irrational but hearing these words come out of a Diaz’s mouth hurts. He can’t be a dad for someone. For Christopher he can be though. If that’s how he wants buck he will give him that part. “You bake goods and help me with my homework and tell me to get ready for school and love me no matter what I say or do and losing you is as scary as losing my dad. I had three parents and now I have two.” Christopher trails off looking around. Now he notices everyone. All the tears streaming down peoples faces and the shock and awe of Christopher’s heart being pulled out of his chest and gently being placed with Bucks.
“You and your dad have parts of me I never knew existed. This is just another one. Being a dad is something I can’t even imagine. But being anything less to you is even harder. Buddy, any way you guys want me I will give you. As long as you guys want me. I don’t want you to just say this cause you miss me though. If you miss me, tell me. Don’t say things you don’t mean.” He whispers to Chris. Buck isn’t whispering because he doesn’t want other people hearing. He physically can’t talk normally. His heart is in his throat and he doesn’t want to talk he just wants to hold him. Chris wants to talk so that is what he will do.
“Buck…. Will you be my dad?” Christopher pulls a cheap little ring that you get out of dispensers out of his pocket. Just like that, if there was any hesitation at all about being this kids dad it’s gone. The smile on his face as he tries not to laugh at his own joke makes him want to scream from the Hollywood sign that Christopher Diaz is his son and he is coparenting with Edmundo Diaz.
“Yes!” He screams dramatically matching Christopher’s smile tooth for tooth.
After an hour of everyone talking Carla and Chris leave. When Buck goes to lay down on the couch the 118 meet him there. They surround him on the floor and furniture while he thinks about what just happened.
“He called you his dad.” Eddie breaks the silence. To afraid to say anything he sits silently waiting for Eddie to continue. “Move over, Evan.” The name makes the silence deadly. The last time he called him that they were talking about him being Christopher’s legal guardian.
“I’m not gonna hurt him Edmundo.” Buck says with a slight edge to his voice. This was the first time Buck has ever called him that and Eddie ignores the ping in his chest of happiness. The 118 watches them, eyeing Buck… studying Eddie….
“I made you his legal guardian. I viewed you as his other dad before anyone else. I just want to know how you feel.” Eddie places his hand on Bucks shoulder. His thumb on his jugular feeling the steady yet slightly racing pulse beating through his body from that one inch.
“Nothing changed. He just went for the title.” Buck shoots Eddie a teasing smile replaying his words from the kitchen.

Shameless self promo:
My 10 favorite Buddie fics I've written in 2023 (so far)
In random order
I love you a latte
M | Coffee shop/Café AU | 9,391 words
New to Los Angeles, Eddie meets a cute barista at a coffee shop recommended to him by Chimney. Even though he embarrasses himself by being flustered by Buck, he keeps coming back and starts a friendship with him. -- Once Eddie paid, he stays there for a moment. He doesn't want to leave yet, but he has to. Christopher needs to be picked up soon and he also really needs a nap. "Thanks, Buck." Buck’s eyes widen a little, "How do you…" This time it's Eddie’s turn to grin, "Your name tag." Buck glances down. "Oh. Right. Yes. Uh, you're welcome…. Eddie. You're Eddie." "You remember my name?" Eddie asks, surprised. Buck’s smile turns flirty, "I always remember the pretty ones." "Buck, stop flirting with the customers!" A woman yells out from the kitchen. Both their cheeks turn red, but Buck still grins and even winks at him. Eddie opens his mouth to say something, but he's speechless. "Uh… see you around?" "I hope so," Buck answers.
I loved writing this AU so much. I had so much fun. I think this is my first coffee shop or café AU I've written. Might write another one it the future because of how fun it was. I'm also very proud of how it turned out.
God forbid you leave me like all the rest did
T | Presumed Dead | 33,081 words | 10/10 chapters
“Buck!” He looks up. His tears are blurring his sight, but he recognizes the figure standing in his doorway. “No,” Buck says to him. He shakes his head. “No.” “Buck,” Bobby’s voice is soft. “No!” Buck’s voice raises. “He’s not dead!” Bobby walks closer. In that stupid funeral firefighter suit people wear when telling family members about their fallen heroes, not unlike the military. “He’s not dead!” Buck screams. “Go away, he’s not dead! He’s not dead!” Bobby reaches out to him, and Buck fights against his hold, pushing the older man away. “No! Don’t touch me! He’s not dead! He can’t be dead! Eddie is not dead!” -- Buck's life changes when he loses Eddie on a call and his body is never found. A funeral and a career switch later, Buck has to figure out how to live without the love of his life. He has to stay strong though because he needs to take care of Christopher.
I am a sucker for presumed dead fics. It's not the first one I wrote and it definitely won't be the last. They're so fun to write and deliciously angsty to read.
Worth staying for
E | Nurse Buck AU | 40,128 words | 6/6 chapters
But, when he reads the name ‘Eddie Diaz’ on a file a few weeks later, he does recognize it. He doesn’t know why until he opens the curtain and those same brown eyes look up at him. Once again with something against his arm, this time a towel. An elderly woman is sitting next to him. “Mr. Diaz, I’d say it’s nice to see you again, but I’m an ER nurse, so I would be lying,” Buck smiles at him, “Same thing as last time?” Eddie sighs, “Yeah.” “Last time?” The woman asks, looking at Eddie, “Edmundo, you really need to stay out of the kitchen.” -- Years after the truck bombing, Buck has settled into his new job as a nurse. Then he meets Eddie Diaz, a single-parent firefighter who keeps ending up in the hospital. Eddie also happens to work with Buck's old team. Buck's friends and family encourage him to go for it, but he has been burned before. Would it be worth it, the possibility of having his heart broken again? He's not sure. But the universe seems to have some different plans for them.
I didn't even realize that I wrote it this year. I felt like this was older because the idea had been in my mind for so long. And I LOVED writing this so much. Nurse Buck might be one of my all time favorite things I've written and I am so happy with the love it got.
'Cause we belong together now
M | Marriage or convenience, girl dads Budde | 68,866 words | 14/14 chapters
“Buck, are you saying that...” Oh, he picked up on it. Buck sighs, “If it's okay with you, I'd like to take your name as well. I... I've thought a lot about changing my name over the years, you know? And, well, I guess this is an opportunity. And I'll have the same name as my family.” “Of course, that's okay with me, Evan,” Eddie turns, which causes his knee to press into Buck's thigh. He reaches over and grabs one of Buck's hands. Buck finally risks looking at him again. Eddie's eyes are wet and he blinks a few times as if blinking away his tears. Buck feels a little strange that Eddie got emotional because Buck wants to take his name. “You know I love you, right?” Eddie says, Eddie winces and adds, “You're my best friend.” Buck's not sure why his chest feels so weird. Tight. “I love you too, Eds. There's no one I'd rather fake marry than you.” Eddie laughs, “Back at you.” (Or: on a call, Buck and Eddie meet an adorable little girl that they fall in love with and want to adopt. The only problem? They're not together romantically...)
This is my Roman Empire. Holy shit. I still can't believe I managed to write this. All time favorite fic I wrote. Damn. I'm so freaking proud of it.
In the moonlight you look just like an angel in disguise
M | Going on a trip together | 35,743 words | 6/6 chapters
“Yeah,” Eddie also sighs, “I’m not worried about that, just...” “You’re worried about you?” Buck fills in the gaps once he realizes Eddie doesn’t know how to explain his feelings. Eddie nods, “Yeah. How will I survive those three weeks? The house gets so quiet without him, it just doesn’t feel the same. It’s... It feels wrong.” Buck hums again, drumming his fingers on the table as he thinks, “I think I might have a solution.” “What? Be supervisors at camp? Christopher wouldn’t forgive me, I know he loves us, but he’d be very embarrassed to have his dads- to have his dad there.” Buck’s eyes twinkle a little at the slip, but he doesn’t say anything about it. He shakes his head, “No. But, Bobby told me he has an old vacation home that used to belong to his family. He hasn’t been there in years.” Eddie frowns, “You want to ask our captain if we can borrow his vacation home that he hasn’t been to since his wife died?” Now Buck is the one rolling his eyes, “No, smartass. He gave me the keys, said I could use it whenever I wanted.” -- While Christopher is at camp, Buck and Eddie go on a vacation of their own to a small cabin in the woods... It goes as well as you'd expect.
I know I say this about every fic in this list but this was so fun to write! It got me in the summer mood and I still think of this fondly :)
Let me fix it for you
M | 5+1 times | 10,355 words
5 times Eddie fixes or builds something for Buck + 1 time Buck thanks him for it (... sort of) -- “You look like you need a good breakfast,” Bobby says at the sight of Buck, handing him a plate highly stacked with waffles. “You can shave here if you want to.” “And risk being halfway when we get called in?” Buck snorts, “Nah, I’ll shave when Eddie fixes my sink.” “Oh, didn’t know you were a free handyman on the side,” Hen says, stretching to look at Eddie, “You know, we’ve been looking for someone to fix our backyard fence." Eddie, with his mouth full of waffles, shakes his head, “Family only.”
I just love Buck being horny for Eddie doing domestic things. And I love Eddie doing domestic things for Buck in general.
When the world ender comes, baby run for your life
M | Another tsunami | 17,588 words
Another tsunami hits Los Angeles, this time the entire team is caught in it and gets separated, desperate to find their way back to each other. Buck had warned them something felt off... they should have listened. -- "It's quiet," Buck says to him as they walk towards the neighboring building. "Quiet?" Eddie asks him with a laugh. He points at the queue of honking cars lining up behind the firetruck as one part of the road is blocked. There is also still the sound of people talking, or more likely yelling. An airplane flies above them. "It's not very quiet." "I don't mean the humans," Buck answers, looking around. "The animals. The birds have left, normally this area has a ton of squirrels. I don't see any stray cats." Eddie sighs, "So, what, you think Armageddon is about to happen?" "I'm just saying, it's weird," Buck defends himself, "I feel like something's going to happen. I just don't know what." "I'm sure it's nothing," Eddie reassures him and pats his shoulder, "Before you know it we are eating dinner tonight with Christopher. He's been begging for the recipe you found."
I worked so hard on this for months, I was glad I could finally post it. I'm sad this didn't really get as much attention as some of my other fics, but I get that it's different than other things I've written. I'm still proud of myself for finishing writing this fic.
My father's son
T | Different first meeting AU, Buck is Bobby's biological son | 27,314 words | 4/4 chapters
Whumptober day 9: mistaken identity / 2023 prompt: kidnapped After a DNA test, that he took as a joke, Buck's entire life is pulled upside down. Traveling to Los Angeles with the thought of helping a man find his missing son, whose results Buck accidentally got, it turns out that there was no mix-up at all. Buck is that missing son, kidnapped just after birth. For twenty-six years, Buck has been living a lie. He tries to get used to his new life, his new family. He starts a new job. But there's another problem... he's falling for one of the firefighters under his father's command. And the people who raised him, the Buckleys, refuse to confess the full truth.
You might already know that Buck & Bobby are my weakness. This idea had been living in my mind for so long and I finally got to write and publish it!
Since I met you I just can't forget you
M | Veterinarian Buck AU | 10,667 words
When Eddie adopts a cat he rescued on a call, he doesn't expect to develop a major crush on the cute veterinarian. -- "Aren't you gorgeous?" Buck answers. Eddie blushes deeply and turns to look at Buck but- oh. Of course. Buck is talking to the cat. He should've guessed that. Buck opens the carrier and Mrs. Whiskers curiously walks out, sniffing his hand before letting out a 'prr' like sound. Not purring, but talkative. "Hi there, my name is Buck and I'm your doctor, I'm gonna take good care of you, okay?" Buck says to her and pets her gently. He turns to look at Eddie, "I've been a vet for 6 years and this is the most beautiful cat I have ever seen." Eddie bites his lip to stop the proud smile from taking over his face. (AKA: the veterinarian Buck/cat owner Eddie AU)
So this year I figured out that I LOVE writing AU's. I hope to write more in December and then in 2024! This was so adorable and fun to write!!
Under the neon lights, I think we might get married in Vegas
M | waking up married in Vegas | 5,539 words
The arm around him tightens, making him freeze. There's a groan that's somehow similar, but he must confuse this person with someone else. The figure turns around to lie on their back. Buck slowly turns his head to the other side of the pillow to look at them and- Oh shit. Oh shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit. It's Eddie. Eddie fucking Diaz is laying in his hotel bed, sheets covering his lower half, the upper half? Naked. Fuck, fuck, fuck. (Or: Buck wakes up married to Eddie in Las Vegas. Neither of them remember how they got here.)
I am a SUCKER for fics like this so I was really happy to write one of my own. I'm very proud of the outcome!

okay, I'm gonna start this off by saying this whole thing hinges on whether or not the show is gonna keep mirroring Buck and Eddie's personal journeys and this is mostly about Buck, I have no idea what they're gonna do with Eddie lol. First of all, @aziraaphales made this set back when the finale aired about the similarities between Buck and Taylor and Buck and Natalia and that illustrates it beautifully, the whole she came back, they seem happy, are they really? and that's a point against Natalia lasting in my opinion. But the thing is, I think Bucktalia also mirrors Eddiana, and that's when things start to get interesting in my brand of insanity. You have Buck treating Natalia's hand, you have Eddie treating Ana's, Ana and Natalia being reduced to their jobs, the first date in broad daylight in a cafe of some sort, a second date at home being interrupted by the rest of their lives (if you push a bit and think about Kameron's pregnancy, both dates are interrupted by their children even if the baby isn't Buck's on the ways that matter), you have the picture-perfect ending at home after a near-death experience, so the parallels are there too. And that means one important parallel, Buck holding on for the wrong reasons the same way Eddie did, which could doom that relationship further, but also leave Buck spiraling. Because if we're comparing personal journeys, Buck is in a state that's a mix of season 4 Eddie trying to be happy through the trauma and outside looking in/fear-o-fobia Eddie. I think we can even directly parallel some stuff, like, I truly believe the cemetery is the way Buck would handle the outside looking in kitchen talk if that went the other way around.
But the thing is, Buck needs to deal with the shit that happened to him before getting together with Eddie so I'm choosing to look at these as fuel for my Buck Breakdown beliefs. Unlike Eddie, Buck actually died, so that changes the dynamic a little bit, there's also the way that Buck doesn't care about his own life enough to break over dying, but while Eddie's PTSD has many triggers, the thing that actually breaks him is the knowledge that he didn't save the people he thought he saved. So my grand theory here is something happening to Maddie, Bobby, or Christopher that makes Buck lose it. I don't really think they would do something to Chris, but using him would have a similar effect if it wasn't for the fact that it would also break Eddie. Eddie himself doesn't count in this situation unless is both Eddie and Chris, because Buck would be forced to keep it together if something happened to Eddie for Chris' sake. Or maybe if they like, killed off the Buckley parents and forced Buck to deal with that grief. But Maddie or Bobby, dangerous situation, close call, hospital stay, honestly, something that would leave them in enough danger to trigger Buck, low-key don't think you need much to trigger that man. But trigger, Buck losing it, Eddie talking Buck down (how would Eddie find out Buck is losing it? I don't know, plot convenience, I like the idea of divorced-era Buddie and Eddie storming the loft because he's tired of Buck's bullshit and finding him, or maybe someone from dispatch calls Eddie because there's been a call from Buck's address, I don't know, they can get creative there), Buck working towards working his own shit out. But we're in this weird season 4/season 5b mix, right? How do we end s4? Near-death experience that calls back to a previous trauma, big revelation, aborted love confession.
One thing I refuse to compromise on is the fact that Eddie had his oh! moment during the shooting (it's my truth I am not letting it go) so you can probably see where I'm going here, right? A Buck in a better mind space almost dying by chance, getting saved by Eddie, and realizing something. You see the vision? Current vision goes back and forth between equipment malfunctioning, Buck falling, and Eddie being the only one close enough to get to him, this usually goes around a cliff, a bridge, and Buck falling into water (I know the truck bombing is not technically equipment malfunction but equipment did try to kill him, and water is Buck's worst enemy lol), or Buck and Eddie stopping to help someone, and shit going to hell, this vision usually goes with Buck and Eddie seeing a car crash of some sort, again someone drove off a cliff or off a bridge, they go to help, Buck gets trapped in the car, Eddie needs to save him (trapped under a vehicle, water) or just straight up having them drive of a bridge. Because something really big about the shooting is the way that, one it happened by chance, two they weren't supposed to be there, three Buck didn't have anyone he trusted there so he did the saving alone, and four by having Eddie get shot, you're bringing up why he left the army. So with Buck, if they stick to this pattern, you need to drown him or trap him under something, or both. And you have the way the lightning parallels the well and the shooting, and the well triggered something for Eddie, you have the whole you need to keep fighting, find your own way out, the suffocation aspect for both of them when you realize Eddie is about to drown and Buck's lungs are not working, and also the way Buck is supposed to learn something during his coma that could lead to a conversation similar to the will reveal. This is when the vision gets cloudy. Because ideal world, the reveal is Buck's feelings and we don't have an aborted love confession, we have a plain old confession, but the aborted route is always a possibility with a see you in season 8 thing.
But yeah, Buck breakdown, Buck starting to deal with his shit, near-death experience, Eddie having to save him alone, tense conversation after. I'm also slightly obsessed with what could happen in a scene where Eddie is dragging Buck out of the water, cpr, mouth to mouth, "you're not doing this to me again", Buck coughing up water while sitting up, Eddie catching him, "I got you, I got you". The possibilities are ENDLESS. Just put Ryan's emotional power to work. All those fun things oskaoskaoskoaksas
Also, this mostly hinges on Buck doing something to change their relationship because considering Buck tripped into 4 relationships, he needs to start this one. I'm a firm Buck needs to do something first believer. Buck's endgame relationship needs to start with him making a move. Also, my whole Buck needs to choose thing is all about Shannon saying that Eddie keeps making all the choices, so Eddie needs to let go of control and Buck needs to go for what he wants.

temptation Tuesday
a million thanks and kudos to @honestlydarkprincess for this tag game! 💕
rules: share something about an idea you have/something that's speaking to you/an au you'd like to see and are considering writing/etc. etc. basically anything that is tempting you away from your current wips!
also tagged by beloveds, @alyxmastershipper @fatedbuddie @jobairdxx @cowboy-buddie @hippolotamus @fleurdebeton @rogerzsteven @megsvstheworld 😘💕
tagging @gayedmundodiaz @spotsandsocks @shortsighted-owl @wh0re-behavi0r @mysteriouslyyounggalaxy @gayhoediaz @ashavahishta @littlespoonevan @rewritetheending and anyone else who wants to play 💕
1) So last year I got to see the musical version of Pretty Woman, and ever since I’ve been wanting to write a Buddie AU because every fandom needs at least a few Pretty Woman AUs, right? Who doesn’t love the “fake relationship / we fell in love while having casual sex” trope? Plus sad brooding workaholic!Eddie who gets brought out of his shell by vibrant sweet silly!Buck is just 🥰🥰🥰
2) There’s a trans/genderqueer Eddie fic percolating in my head where he realizes he’s always hated/been trapped by expectations of “being a man” especially where romantic relationships are concerned, and he starts to connect it to “maybe I don’t feel like I’m actually a man, it’s just what I’ve always been told and what was expected of me,” and then it leads to him exploring gender identities and connecting more with being feminine/non-binary and breaking free of the performance of masculinity and toxic traits that were engrained in him.
3) idk but the fandom seems to be on a Buddie breeding kink kick, and that would definitely be fun. 👀 May or may not have Thoughts about it. Maybe maybe. It would go hardcore into the whole idea and lots of things that go along with it though that I don’t think I’ve seen or read about but are associated. How’s that for vague lol
4) Someone may have messaged me about writing some superangst and pining!Eddie whump where either Eddie is trapped and dying and finally confesses his love to Buck while Buck loses it and can’t help him OR Eddie tries a few times to tell Buck of his feelings and even goes so far to bring him flowers, which Buck immediately thinks were sent by Natalia because they’d been talking about flower meanings so Buck has to call her and thank her immediately, so Eddie leaves and gets into a car accident and Buck gets called to pick up Christopher since Eddie never showed. And then they find out that Eddie is hospitalized, on life support. And at some point Buck asks why Eddie didn’t just say the flowers were from him, while Eddie says, you didn’t want them to be from me. All that fun stuff? 🫠 idk how we fix it. I just do angst. *shrug emoji*
5) Alternate part 3 to Orpheus/Eurydice series where Eddie has to climb the ladder and save Buck from death and bring him home. Because obviously.

Hurt/Comfort Buddie fic recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
Break In by soft_satan - Rated T
“9-1-1 what is your emergency?” “Break in,” he gasped as the rattling doorknob stopped. Buck gave their address quickly as he grabbed the bat he kept under his side of the bed. “I saw at least two men. No idea if they're armed.”
5-4-3-2-1 by elisela - Rated G
For all the times that Eddie has practiced getting into his turnout suit in record time, he never bothered figuring out how to get out of it just as fast. He would be regretting that if he could think about anything other than the fact that Buck went over the pier rail twenty-six seconds ago, and disappeared into the dark water seventeen seconds ago.
you know I wanna be the one to hold you when you sleep by ashavahishta - Rated G
He doesn’t see it. He barely even hears it, the sounds of struggle on the edge of his awareness as he and Hen roll the patient onto a stretcher. Bobby will tell him later that the guy had broken free from Buck, pushed him hard enough for Buck to lose his footing and trip backwards into the skate bowl. What Eddie does hear is the sickening dull thud of Buck’s head hitting concrete.
Snap, Crackle, Pop. by wolfypuppypiles - Rated T
Eddie pulled his phone out of his pocket, standing to answer its ringing call. “Hey, Buck.” “Dad.” Eddie spun on his heel, smile warming up his chest at his son’s voice. “Hey, buddy. Where’s Buck? You guys having fun?” “We fell.” AKA Buck gets hurt and its Christopher who has to save him
(hurt) thy neighbor by autumnchills - Rated T
“He’s armed,” is all he says into the phone before standing from his spot. He shoves his phone into his pocket and steps out, hands raised. Sure enough, the man has a gun pointed at him, but if he looks closely enough… Buck squints. Color him surprised. “Is that you—” “Don’t!” The man yells, jerking his hand with the gun aggressively. “Don’t you dare fucking say my name, Buckley.” In which things get bad fast when Buck's neighbor breaks into his apartment thinking that he isn't home.
The Blazin' Challenge by datleggy - Rated G
Buck has an allergic reaction at buffalo wild wings and the firefam is there for him. Also they finally realize Buck and Eddie are an item--by accident.
not ready to let go by theosbuckley - Rated G
"Hey, Eddie!" Chim calls him as he leaves the fire station, "This came in for you, there's no return address." Eddie's heart drops almost immediately and he rushes to Chim, almost ripping the envelope from his hand. "Woah there, this better not be some weird fetish thing." "Shut up Chim!" He snaps back. Edmundo Buckley-Diaz Firehouse 118, Los Angeles, California United States of America or in which i'm sorry for doing this (but not really)
It's Ok Now by datleggy - Rated G
On his day off, Buck takes Christopher to the doctor--just for a cold, no big deal--until it suddenly might be and Buck is alone and nobody is picking up their phone.
we're gonna be okay, kid by honestlydarkprincess - Rated G
The last thing Buck is expecting is to be woken up from his ill advised mid-morning nap with a call from Christopher's school, telling him that Chris is sick and should go home. He can't leave his favourite kid to fend for himself so even though Eddie might get mad at him, again, he's on his way to pick up Chris before he can even think about it. Set during the lawsuit, post-grocery store scene.
a leaf falls on loneliness by iimpossible_things - Not Rated
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that. But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.” —you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting— So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.
Buy Back the Secrets by allyasavedtheday - Rated T
He casts his gaze to the right, to the voice he’d heard a minute ago and the hand still on his shoulder. And, well. Okay. So Buck may have just been unconscious for an indeterminable length of time but he doesn’t think he’s exaggerating when he says the guy leaning over his bedside is one of the most attractive people he’s seen in a long time. Especially when his face splits into a smile that rivals the brightness of the hospital lights that almost just fucking blinded Buck a second ago. “Welcome back, hotshot,” the guy says and it sounds fond – familiar – and Buck honestly has no idea who this guy is. His brown hair is dishevelled on top of his head and his eyes look tired but then Buck notices the LAFD t-shirt so- alright. Someone from the firehouse, maybe? But he’s pretty sure he’d remember a face like that. * After getting hurt on a call, Buck wakes up thinking it's 2018. AKA Buck can't remember who Eddie is but he's pretty sure everyone's lying when they say they're "just friends."
Leave the Light On (I'll Be Coming Home) by HMSLusitania - Rated M
“We’re here for our grandson,” Helena says. “Chris is still sleeping,” Buck says. “I meant, we’re here to take him back to Texas,” Helena clarifies. “Yeah,” Buck says. He’s too tired, way too tired to be tactful. “Over my dead body.” -- An accident on a call leaves Buck with custody of Chris after Eddie is... missing presumed. While they navigate their new family circumstances -- and fight to stay together, despite Eddie's parents' best efforts -- a John Doe wakes up in a coma ward with no memory of his own life beyond the knowledge he has a son named Christopher and, somehow, he needs to get home.
Of Bikes and Concussions by datleggy - Rated G
Buck gets into an accident on his way to work in the morning, and before he can explain why he's late, he gets thoroughly chewed out and the rest of his day goes way downhill from there.
it’s okay by itsmylifekay - Not Rated
Finally back with the team, Buck isn’t going to let anything tear him away again. He has to prove his place, his part in the family, even if that means smiling through the pain. Or, Buck gets hurt on a call and doesn’t tell anyone.
don't tell my husband (he'll kill me) by coupe_de_foudre - Rated T
All Bobby has to say, as Buck is hightailing it towards danger, is a low, threatening, “Don’t make me call Eddie.” and Buck will skid to a stop, pause, and eventually turn around and slink back towards the team like a scolded dog with his tail between his legs.
Frequent Flyer by red_to_black - Rated M
In his entire time being a firefighter, Eddie has never met anyone as accident-prone as Evan Buckley. And Buck - well, he's quickly becoming the 118's best customer. (Or - the one where Eddie is a firefighter, Buck isn't, and Eddie finds himself rescuing Buck from increasingly sticky situations. Sometimes literally.)
Love Language by red_to_black - Not Rated
The one in which there's too much pollen around, Eddie pines, and Buck is oblivious. Or - Eddie's love language is acts of service, and Buck doesn't totally get it.
17 Steps to Inevitability by allyasavedtheday - Rated T
“Thanks for clearing it with Cap,” he says lowly, feeling oddly self-conscious under Buck’s knowing gaze. Because just Buck shrugs like it’s not a big deal, claps him on the shoulder and squeezes once. “Of course,” he says earnestly. “I told you he wouldn’t mind.” Eddie swallows back an emotion he doesn’t know how to name and bumps their shoulders together as they head for the stairs. He’d forgotten friendship could be like this, forgotten what the unconditional support of having a team around him felt like. He’s not sure he’s ever had friends like this though. * Eddie doesn't plan for Buck to become part of his and Christopher's family; it just sort of happens. He doesn't plan to fall in love with Buck either; that just sort of happens too.
waiting on the sunrise by autumnchills - Rated T
When Buck left home, it was a rushed decision. He didn’t know where he was going or what he was going to do, but he had a high school diploma and enough street smarts to make it as far from his father as possible.
It's been nearly ten years since then, and now his father is in town. Buck quickly learns that some things haven't changed.
But other things have, and his family will help him realize that.
Whiplash by soft_satan - Rated G
She parked near him and got out, avoiding the puddle as she approached him. Hands on her hips, she shook her head in pity. “What on earth happened to you?” He looked up at her with a pained smile, his shoulders instantly sagging with relief at the sight of her. “I got carjacked.” ... Thanks to a lack of communication, a horrific accident leads the team to fear the worst.

using this to show a wip that i have no idea will be finished but has been in my head in a while and is inspired by a hallmark movie a friend and i once watched while drunk :D the movie has lived in my mind rent free for years and i've always thought it'd be a good fanfic trope
Buck sits at the outdoor area of the ice cream shop nervously eating his rocky road ice cream. It's been a while since he's gone on a date. Been even longer since he's gone on a date with someone he met on a dating app. But the guy - Eddie Diaz - looks hot and from the profile it seems like they have a lot in common. There are a couple pictures of him in a firefighter uniform so at least they have any crazy calls to compare with. There was also one particularly cute picture of him and what appears to be his kid of him making something in their kitchen. And Buck has always had a soft spot for kids.  He opens the app to see if there's a new message from Eddie. He's not terribly late by any measure. Five minutes isn't going to make him worry he's getting stood up. But the only message greeting him are the last ones from this morning of him confirming that they were still on for their ice cream date -an unusual pick, but hey, Buck likes ice cream, so he isn't going to complain - and Eddie replying, “Slay.”  Also a bit unusual. Buck only hears that type of slang from people in their lower twenties or younger when he's out on calls. Not people in their early thirties like Eddie states in his profile of him. But then again, maybe this guy is chronically online and runs a Tiktok account. He's been tempted to look this guy up, however he's learned from past experiences that stalking a person before a date never goes well. "Buck, as I live and breathe!" a familiar voice calls out. It takes a moment for the voice and the face to register. "Carla?" He hasn't seen her in years. Not since he dated Abby. And wow, isn't that a mess of emotions he doesn't want to unravel. “What-how are you doing? I haven't seen you in forever!” He gets up from his seat to give her a hug that she enthusiastically accepts. “Well, I'm actually here to introduce you to someone,” her eyes sparkle in mischief.  Buck is about to ask her what she's talking about when a kid around thirteen years old walks up in crutches next to her. "Hi Buck! I'm Christopher!” He smiles widely at him.  For a brief moment, Buck panics thinking that somehow he's this child's father. Except the longer he looks at Christopher, he realizes that no, there's no trace of Evan Buckley in him. He looks back at Carla in confusion. "Uhh, sorry. I think there's some mistake. I am here to meet someone, but it's actually-” “My dad,” Christopher interrupts. Buck's eyebrows shoot up to the top of his head from him. OK. Now he's really confused. Carla still looks at him with an amused expression, clearly enjoying the scene before her. He remembers back when he was dating Abby and the three of them would sometimes hang out watching a soap, Carla would have this same look on her face whenever something juicy was happening.  “Eddie. Diaz.” Christopher continue. “You thought you were meeting him, but you're actually here to meet me.” He grins sheepishly as if asking for forgiveness. “Sorry for tricking you, but this was the only way to get my dad a date.”
"Uh, what?" Christopher rolls his eyes. Like Christopher laid out all the clues for Buck and somehow Buck still needed someone to spell it out for him. He turns to Carla and asks, “Since we’re here, can I get some ice cream?” “Sure, Chris. Your usual? Cookies and cream?” “Yeah!” It isn’t until Buck sees Chris’ smile that he realizes what it means for a person to light a room with one. Or, in this case, the outside of an ice cream shop.  Carla leaves and it’s just Buck and Christopher.  “So, explain this to me again?” Christopher sighs. It’s the type of sigh that only a teenager can give. “My dad needs to start dating again but he’s too stubborn.” He looks at Buck imploringly through his red glasses. “He doesn’t think I see how lonely he is, but I can tell. I’m not stupid. I know after what happened with my mom-” he stops, snapping his mouth shut. Buck doesn’t press. He doesn’t know the kid or this Eddie guy. Whatever happened with his mom is his business. Clearly, there’s some pain still there, and Buck’s heart goes out to them.  “I think my dad needs someone. And I think that someone is you.”  He can only blink back at Christopher. That’s…that’s a lot to hear, especially coming from a thirteen year old.  Carla comes back, one bowl of ice cream for Chris and one for her. “So, did you ask him?” She asks Christopher. “Um,” Buck starts. “I just…wouldn’t you rather have a…wouldn’t you want your dad to date a woman instead?”  Both Christopher and Carla look at each other. Then Chris states simply. “No, I think my dad would be happier with a guy,” before going back to his ice cream. “Also Carla knows you and says you’re nice. And I trust Carla.” Buck switches his bewildered gaze to Carla, who only shrugs. “It’s true. I always did like you, Buck.” “Okay, so what’s the plan then? You take me to see your dad and-and see if there’s some connection?” Christopher groans, like Buck still isn’t getting it. “No! That would be too obvious! He’s a firefighter, you’re a firefighter!” When Buck is still waiting for Christopher to continue, Chris mutters something under his breath. Something that sounds like why do I have to do everything? “You go to his work and introduce yourself, duh! He works at station 6.” Buck tries to hide his grin. He does. From the way Carla is chuckling, he doesn’t think he’s succeeding. “Okay, and what makes you think I’m going to do that?” Now Chris is looking at Buck like he’s the dumbest person alive. “Because you liked my dad’s dating profile. And you came here to meet him.”  The kid definitely has a point. And honestly? Buck has done crazier things in his life. Meeting a guy because his kid wants his dad to start dating? Well, what’s the worst that could happen?

WIP Wednesday
My first WIP Wednesday! I did post a little snippet on the WIP i’m working on Sunday! You can find that here. Here another little snippet from the same piece The Ripple Effect. I’m at 10K which isn’t something I’ve done for a long time but I’m really enjoying working on such a larger story! Any way, hope you guys enjoy!
Buck could have brought up that he had to move during their 12-hour shift. The calls aren’t taxing – a call out to a park where a teenager is stuck in the baby swing, a young boy stuck in a tree trying to rescue his cat that had gotten stuck first, and a hotel worker who thought hiding from their boss in the industrial washing machine was a good idea.
There were plenty of opportunities to tell them; cooking lunch with Bobby, while battling Hen and Chimney in Mario Kart, doing inventory with Eddie. Except, every time Buck opened his mouth to say something, nothing came out.
Because Eddie was dating Ana, Hen was studying to be a doctor, Chimney had a new baby and as much as Buck wished, Bobby wasn’t his dad. Buck couldn’t help but feel that he was being left behind and he hated the ugly twist his stomach gave at the thought. He tried to quieten the sneer in the back of his mind, practicing the techniques that Doctor Copeland gave him. But it was hard when –
“Hey, you guys want to grab a drink?” Buck asked after their shift had ended and they were civilians once again.
“Sorry, Buckaroo.” Hen’s smile was tired and sympathetic. “I’ve got a ton of study to get through.”
“And I have some very beautiful girls waiting for me at home,” Chimney added with a grin.
“Uh yeah, sure,” Buck nodded, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He turned to Eddie, a hopeful smile on his face.
“Sorry,” Eddie shook his head. “I’m seeing Ana tonight.”
Buck could recite the excuses off by heart now. They were the same ones they had given him the last time he had asked to hang out. And the time before that. And the time before that. Buck had stopped counting the number of times he had been blown off with other plans.
“Sure,” Buck said, shoulder’s slumping. He shut his locker door (and he winced at how loud it sounded in the locker room.) He grabbed his duffel bag, swinging it over shoulder and strode out of the locker room without another word or before he could do something truly embarrassing like getting on his knees and begging for just one night out.
 “Buck!”
Buck paused with his hand on the handle of his jeep, turning to see Eddie jogging to catch up to him.
“Why don’t you come around this weekend?” Eddie asked, eyes warm and inviting as he smiled easily at Buck.
Buck’s heart gave a traitorous little flip at the sight, and he could feel himself weakening as he stared at his best friend. He wanted to be mad at Eddie for blowing him off constantly, for only seeing him when he needed Christopher babysat (which was never a hardship and Buck looked forward to his nights with his best friend) before Eddie was rushing out the door to go meet Ana. But he couldn’t because it was Eddie, and he was so in love with the man it was pathetic.
Opening his mouth to agree, the words died on his tongue as Eddie’s phone rang loudly.
“Sorry,” Eddie said, fishing his phone from his pocket. He checked the screen, a little smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “It’s Ana.”
Buck’s little bubble of happiness popped.
“Looks like you’ll be busy, Diaz,” Buck said, opening his door and tossing his duffel into passenger seat. He climbed in after it, settling behind the wheel. He grabbed the door handle, glancing at Eddie. He swallowed as he saw the confused pull of Eddie’s brows and the slight hurt in his eyes. “Maybe next time.”
Buck yanked his door closed, satisfied with the slam it made. He turned the engine on and carefully peeled out of the station car park, leaving Eddie standing there, watching Buck’s jeep leave.
Buck wondered if there would ever be a next time.

One More Diaz (911 Buddie A/B/Ω AU WIP) Part 2
Author Note: Part 2 of Probably 3. Unbeta'd and posted on mobile so there might be issues that need to be corrected. Bonding bite time!
Minors do not interact. I write mature themes.
Content warning: Male Alpha/ Male Omega pairing, mpreg, angst, vomiting, morning sickness, injury, biting, fear, anxiety
Alpha Buck/Omega Eddie
Part 1
Eddie had started to think that everything would be manageable. Eddie’s doctor had given him an all-clear for the restricted work load. Buck had been there for the ultrasound and even if the pup was too small to be recognizable, it was still there. It was clear in black and white. That was their pup. And Buck had stuck a copy of it on the firehouse fridge. And no one complained. Someone even stuck a little magnet with a fire hat sticker on the tiny blob of a developing pup and the omega couldn't help but laugh.
He and Buck could handle everything. The first shift they had a problem was three weeks after everyone found out.
A call to a warehouse fire went to shit when the poorly maintained floor of the second level gave out and when Bobby had called out for everyone to check in Eddie thought he might pass out when Buck had been slow to report back. The omega had to step away from the poor guy suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns for a moment. He had to try and reign in his reaction. Once he was sure he wouldn't burst into tears and be a distraction he returned. Hen gave him a reassuring look without saying anything else. And the omega was grateful to have her there. When the job was done and they were back at the firehouse, Buck hadn't even hung up his gear before Eddie was in his space. And the alpha didn't mind. He didn't blame the omega. Eddie had barely gotten to see his alpha before the ambulance was heading off to the hospital.
“Didn't mean to scare you, Eds,” the alpha says as he hugs his omega back. “I'm good. My mask got messed up and I had to fix it before I could report in.” Eddie's grip tightens. “You know the drill.” He feels Eddie's nod more than he sees it with how the omega’s face is tucked against his throat. The alpha wonders how he can stand having his face in the sweaty firefighter’s neck. “Eddie,” Buck starts when he feels how shaky the omega is. The alpha looks over at the rest of the team. Bobby gives the younger alpha a small smile as he approaches.
“It's okay, take a minute,” Bobby says.
Buck guides Eddie to sit on the edge of the truck and the alpha is worried at how quiet the omega is. The alpha makes quick work of his gear.
“I’ll handle it, you go,” the captain assures him.
“Thanks, Bobby,” Buck says. He goes over and after assuring Eddie that he's okay again. He leads the omega to a quiet corner of the loft.
Eddie seemed more himself by the next call.
By the end of the shift, the alpha can tell that the omega is exhausted. They don’t need a bond for the alpha to know that. He just needed eyes. He has an idea he wants to discuss with Eddie, but he can tell now isn't the time. Most of the next day is spent with Eddie snuggling on the couch with Christopher when he is home. And the alpha is so proud of the boy. Christopher had become increasingly independent as he got older but he must have been able to tell his dad needed the attention. And he seemed more than happy to indulge his dad. So it had been a quiet day for the most part.
“Would it make you feel better if we were bonded?” Buck asks after Christopher has gone to bed. That had the omega stopping short as he got ready for bed. Eddie looked back at the alpha.
“Seriously?” The omega stares at him.
“Okay, I'm going to be honest right now and admit that I have no idea what you are thinking right now,” Buck admits.
“Right,” Eddie says before disappearing into the bathroom and leaving the alpha to wonder if he really truly messed up. The alpha has to squash the urge to either follow Eddie or to try and explain himself through the door. He didn't want to wake Christopher that was for sure. He changes into his sleep pants and tosses his shirt into the hamper before sitting on the edge of the bed to wait for Eddie. He wasn't going to just ignore what he'd asked. He was caught off guard when he had expected to have to argue his point but instead, he ended up with the omega in his lap and eager lips on his. And it escalates from there.
“This weekend,” Eddie says.
“What?” Buck asks, his brain still recovering from the omega pretty much jumping his bones. Not that he had any complaints. A pregnant omega could be almost as insatiable as one in heat. The only difference is that it wasn't out of a drive for procreation. It was out of a want to connect with their partner, their mate, to strengthen a bond.
“Chris has a birthday sleepover for a classmate,” the omega explains. “Unless you changed your mind...”
And the alpha realizes that Eddie was answering his question from earlier. Buck wraps his arms around Eddie and pulls him close. He nudges the omega with his nose. And kisses his temple.
“I’ve been wanting to make you my mate since I met you,” Buck assures him.
“You hated me, when you met me,” Eddie huffs.
“Because you were fucking built and you fit so well on the team it was overwhelming. I mean, I thought you were an alpha and that was confusing as hell. I'd never been into that.”
Eddie laughs. “Good thing I wasn't one.”
“I'd have been all for whatever you were,” the alpha admits and that warms something deep in the omega. “You’re it for me.”
And that brings tears to Eddie's eyes. He almost told Buck to just bite him now if Buck wanted.
“Buck,” he starts, his emotions flooding his voice. “Alpha.” He props himself up so he can actually see Buck. “I want nothing more than to be mated to such a beautiful and loving alpha. You are my alpha. My-” his voice fails so he makes his point by moving the alpha’s hand to his stomach. The alpha catches on as he rubs the omega's warm skin.
“This weekend,” Buck agrees before pulling the omega in for a kiss.
The next few days seem to drag on. Christopher even got annoyed at how antsy the pair were. But every time he pointed it out, they told him they were just excited to have a full weekend off. Christopher didn't really dig deeper. He had plans of his own that he needed their help with. Eddie had taken him to pick a gift for his friend. Buck had happily helped him wrap it. And Buck had been asked to be the one to drive him. And despite the omega internally pouting because his boy didn't pick him. He loved how much Christopher loved his Buck. Buck was his favorite person more often than not. And Buck adored Christopher. The alpha treated the boy as his own. The omega hoped that never changed. Knowing Buck, it wouldn't. He had more than enough heart to share. Buck would be there for Christopher until Christopher decided otherwise. And the omega doubted that would ever happen. Christopher was more than happy to have another dad, though Buck had been his favorite almost immediately after meeting him. Eddie would love for the two to never change. But things were already changing, in a good way. He just hoped Christopher would be happy that they would be even closer as a family soon.
Eddie was eagerly waiting for Buck. The omega had triple-checked that Christopher had everything he could possibly need for the night. The young teen didn't put up much of a fight when his omega dad insisted on a hug before he left.
The scent that hit Buck as he made his way into the home was nearly intoxicating. The alpha had never felt happier to be home. Buck pulls Eddie to him as soon as the front door is closed and locked. No one would be bothering them for the next 12 hours or so. Buck had let his sister know what was up, which meant Chimney knew, and if he knew, so did Hen. Which meant Athena knew. Buck knew Athena knew. He didn't even have to tell her when he'd dropped by to bring some paperwork to Bobby. With a knowing look and wink, she'd told Buck to have a nice night and they'd see him at family dinner on Sunday. So they doubted either of them would hear from Bobby either. Everyone was just happy their oblivious idiots were finally getting it over with. They all knew this was coming, and even had a betting pool. The betting pool was taken by Hen who had been the only one to figure it was a pup that tipped the scales.
But any annoyance they had at their friend's betting on their love life was forgotten when Eddie melted into Buck's embrace.
“You ready? You sure-” the alpha starts to ask if Eddie is sure this is what he wants. His words dissolve into an amused laugh when Eddie shoves the alpha against the wall.
“Don't ask stupid questions,” the male omega insists. “Have been since you put the idea out there last week. Now, shut up and-” His words fail him this time as Buck changes their position. The omega now pinned to the wall. The alpha playful nips at the omega's bottom lip which falls open with a moan as he grinds against him. But the alpha isn't going to let this continue in the hall, not like this. This was Eddie, his pregnant mate, almost. He deserved better.
“Then what are we waiting for?” Buck grinned. That earned him an annoyed grunt and slight shovstir-crazy omega. The alpha couldn't help but laugh again before pulling the omega along with him down the hall to their bedroom.
The alpha slowly kissed along the omega's jaw. The hyper-aware omega wants to be annoyed at his partner’s slow teasing, but again, his body betrays him as a shiver runs through him. A moan falls from his lips as the alpha moves along his neck. So near the alpha's destination. A whine escapes Eddie as the alpha pulls away to get a good look at his omega.
“Tease,” Eddie glares, but the action was half-hearted and Buck could tell. Eddie was well on his way to wrecked and they had barely started.
“Couldn't resist, you always look so-”
The alpha is cut off by a growl from the male omega. Eddie grinds back against him.
Buck lets out a breathless chuckle but leans back in. “Since you asked so nicely,” the alpha says before kissing his neck. With no further preamble, the alpha sinks his teeth into the omega’s skin. Claiming the omega as his mate.
Eddie nearly blacks out the overwhelming feeling of a bond forming is almost too much for the hypersensitive omega. But it felt wonderful. He felt breathless and lightheaded.
“You still with me?” Buck asks.
“Mmhmm,” Eddie nods as his brain seems to catch up with everything he feels.
“You sure?” Gentle hands shift them until Buck can get a good look at Eddie's face. The alpha’s worry eases when a callused hand grips the side of his neck.
“I'm good,” the omega smiles. Before Buck can question further Eddie pulls him into a kiss. It's unlike any kiss they'd had. They get lost in relearning each other in the warmth of a bond. Bonded mates.
They try not to let their bond interfere as they work. Shared shifts haven't changed much other than having the constant awareness the other one is near without even having to look. It's reassuring, especially for Eddie. It helps quell the uneasy feeling of watching his mate run headlong into danger without the omega there to have his back. Assurance that he would know if something happened, even from the outside.
Separate shifts had the same assurance but with an added longing for their mate being too far away. The pregnancy hormones didn't help but Eddie would endure it. Buck shouldn’t have been surprised how even he felt it. Then again, Buck always missed Eddie when he wasn’t around. It’s part of why he had worked so hard to get back after every injury and setback. It felt like they had something to prove again. Only this time it wasn’t an injury. It was more than that. They had to prove they could manage being a bonded pair and still do their jobs. On the same shift or not.
Eddie complains when he has to have his uniform replaced because his usual set no longer fits. Everyone keeps telling him it’s only the start, but it’ll be worth it. Buck is helpful at times like that. Eager to remind his mate how much the alpha likes his new look.
The sonogram on the fridge gets updated every few weeks. Things went well until Eddie was about 24 weeks along. They get called out to a car accident. And the omega gets an uneasy feeling about it. At first, he thinks it's probably because it reminds him of Shannon. But lots of things still make him think of Shannon, especially when he looks at Christopher. Or checks in with his former in-laws. But he just had a bad feeling. Buck must feel it through the bond because the alpha is on edge. It has Buck being extra vigilant. But no amount of vigilance could prevent what happened from happening. A driver that had either been frustrated by the delay caused by the accident or had been too distracted to even notice it clipped the front of the ambulance. Thankfully no one was in the rig but the collision ended up connecting with the stretcher that the pair of paramedics had been waiting with. Hen and Eddie scrambled to get out of the way, and both did for the most part. Bobby was immediately calling for backup and PD assistance to help re-secure the scene. Buck and Chimney rushed over to check on them.
“Eddie!” The alpha drops down to his knees next to where his mate had ended up. The alpha wants to touch but he has no idea where. The last thing he wants to do is make anything worse. So he asks, “Look at me.” Eddie's eyes meet his. “What hurts?”
The omega would normally brush it off and tell the other man to do his job. But they were right on the edge of that 24-week viability mark. And that had Eddie trying to figure out what exactly he might have injured. A lot of his body was often sore from pregnancy as is. His shoulder hurts. That was probably from taking the brunt of the fall. The shoulder having more recently taken a bullet didn't help but that was pain he could live with if needed to. “Shoulder doesn't feel great,” he states. Buck shifts to let him lean against him instead of the omega’s shaking arms, bracing his back as best he can without aggravating the shoulder.
“Anything else?” The alpha asks.
“I don't think so, but that might just be adrenaline,” he says honestly.
“Think you can get up?” Buck asks.
Eddie realizes that he is sort of in the middle of the road which is definitely not a good place to be with what just happened. “Yeah, probably a good call.” He doesn't bother trying to hide the pain in his shoulder as the alpha helps him up. Buck would feel it through the bond even if he did. So why waste the effort?
By then the other crews were starting to arrive. Both cars' occupants are now managed by other crews and PD. And their ambulance is set to be towed. The team loaded into the truck and headed to the hospital. Bobby wasn't taking any chances and no one argued. Eddie's good shoulder leans against Buck in the truck. The ache in his shoulder grew with each bump in the road. He tries to focus on anything but the pain. But one bump has him gasping and tears in his eyes. He hadn't felt the pup move since everything went to shit. But the little one must have not been a fan of Chim’s driving because the unborn pup was moving now.
“What’s wrong?” Buck asks. The alpha's hands move to try and help but Eddie takes his mate's hand and places it over the spot where he is pretty sure a tiny foot keeps kicking. The alpha is quick to pull off his gloves and has tears in his own eyes. It was a good sign the pup was okay. He doesn't move his hand the rest of the ride. A feeling of relief floods the bond enough to nearly choke the omega, but he gets it. That's why he reacted the way he did. It meant he hadn't lost their pup.
The ER doctor confirmed that apart from some nasty bruising along Eddie's arm and shoulder both he and the pup seemed fine. It would be a painful couple of weeks while he healed without any painkillers stronger than a couple of Tylenol. But he'd manage, considering he was told in no uncertain terms by Bobby that he didn't want to see him at work for at least 2 weeks. And insisted Buck take a few days just in case. Eddie had tried to argue that it left them too short staffed but Bobby had just pointed out that the rig was out of commission, so a few days wouldn't hurt.
Buck was hyper-vigilant once they got home. Eddie waved him off insisting he could manage getting to the room on his own. Leaving the alpha to explain why they were home early to Carla, and more importantly, Christopher. Which meant as soon as Christopher knew he was off down the hall after his dad. Carla had demanded more details and stole the after-visit instructions. Buck hadn't argued. After Carla added a few notes, on looking after not just any injured pregnant omega, but this particularly stubborn one, she told the alpha to call if he needed to and headed out.
The alpha feels some of the anxiety and finally heads to check on the pair.
“I promise it's okay, bud,” he hears his mate say. “It's bruised, but not broken. We’re okay.”
The alpha wasn't sure what the younger Diaz replied because the sound of the bedroom TV drowns it out. Guess that meant neither would be leaving there for a while. And that was perfectly fine with Buck. His two favorite people, technically three, in one spot. Safe and sound. Buck would make sure of it.
The alpha smiled as he looked through the open door. His inner alpha finally relaxed knowing his pack was okay. Eddie had managed to settle in his favorite spot in his pillowed nest. Christopher nestled in on his good side, now watching some cartoon, unbothered by the fact his omega father had scented him. Buck would have to be the one to extricate everyone, but the alpha didn't mind. If that is where his mate wanted to be, that was fine with him.
“You just going to stand there or what?” Eddie asks.
“You two look cozy,” Buck says as he nears them.
“I didn't even know we had this many pillows,” Christopher says. Eddie tries hard not to laugh and mostly succeeds. He manages to not jostle his arm too much in the process.
“We do have a lot,” the alpha grins.
“Are you mocking my nest? That's not very nice,” Eddie gives an exaggerated pout. “It's a normal omega thing. It-”
“It's very, you,” Buck says as he carefully makes his way in, trying not to aggravate his mate’s injuries. He ignores the eye roll from his omega at being treated so gingerly. But no one complained.
“It's a good nest,” Christopher assures his dad.
Eddie settles back against a pillow that had moved in with Buck. It may have been Buck’s for a long time but the alpha didn't mind losing his favorite pillow if his mate was happy. They settled in watching some random show Christopher had found. The soft and warm nest has the injured and exhausted omega asleep before the episode's credits.
Eddie found it amusing that between Buck and Christopher, the omega was pretty much on bed rest for over a week. It was enough to drive the usually active dad stir-crazy. The first few days had been fine. He was tired and sore. He didn't want to move. He just wanted to sleep. His mate had made sure he was as comfortable as an injured and pregnant omega could be. Christopher had volunteered for his fair share of cuddles. To which the omega was grateful for.
Carla was there when Buck had to go back to work. As much as he hated shifts when Eddie wasn't there, it was going to happen.
They are a bit more cautious as the days tick by. One quiet day off a few weeks later Eddie is relaxing on the couch while Christopher watches TV. The omega smiles when he feels a now familiar, but still amazingly reassuring, feeling of the pup moving around. He gets an idea.
“Chris, come here,” Eddie says with a grin.
Christopher eyes his dad skeptically but the boy can tell his dad seems happy.
“What?” Christopher asks with amusement.
“Give me your hand,” the omega says.
“You're weird,” Christopher says but does as his dad asks. Buck, hearing the odd conversation and the TV no longer playing, becomes curious. The alpha made his way to the living room where the two had been while he made lunch. The comfort and love flowing through the bond is unbelievably comforting. Pairing that feeling with the sight before him is nearly overwhelming in the best way possible.
Eddie grins as he guides his son’s hand to his stomach. And both Eddie and Buck can tell the moment Christopher feels it. All the weirdness from doing what his dad asked vanished. His eyes go wide in awe.
“Feel that?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah,” Christopher says.
“You know what that is, right?” Buck asks as he joins them. Eddie chuckles at the eye roll from the young teen.
“It's the pup,” Christopher says.
“Crazy, right?” Buck says, ignoring the sassy nature of Christopher's actions. “That's your little brother or sister.”
Eddie hadn't taken his eyes off his son. It was sweet how even after the omega let go of Christopher's hand the boy hadn't moved much. He was still tucked beside his dad on the couch, his hand getting kicked by his unborn sibling.
“That's good, right?” Christopher asks.
“Yeah, means the little pup is moving which means they are healthy,” Eddie assures him.
“Probably happy too,” the alpha adds.
“That's good,” Christopher says as he finally pulls back and settles in beside his dad. And Eddie feels like he could cry with how happy he is. Christopher wasn't the most cuddly now that he was getting older. Eddie wonders if it's because he's learned in school about the secondary genders. He knew his dad was an omega. And omegas tend to be more tactile. It also might be that Christopher has always been a sweet boy, especially when it came to his dad, even Buck. Either way, Eddie is proud of his son. He was going to be a good big brother. He already was so gentle with his little cousins, especially Jee-Yun. Eddie couldn't wait to see Christopher with his little sibling.

What I'm working on right now (sneak peek):
Hold me, Love
Shannon/Eddie/Buck, rating E probably
When Eddie reached out to Shannon for help in getting Chris into a new school, he never imagined he would end up in a kinky three-way relationship with his estranged wife and his new best friend.
Or, Eddie finds out his best friend fucked his wife when they were separated and is blindsided by how much it turns him on.
(let's gooooooo)
It starts like this: the 118 is doing a toy drive and Eddie has been ignoring his wife’s calls.
Actually, it starts like this: Eddie is working when he lifts his eyes and sees his wife in front of him, but before he can even open his mouth to ask her what she's doing at his place of work, a voice calls from somewhere to his right. "Shannon?"
Shannon turns to see who called her name and Eddie stands there and watches with morbid fascination as his wife’s eyes widen in shock and surprise before her cheeks flush red and she stutters out “B-Buck! Uh- hi…”
Eddie can only blink as Buck leans over the table with a flirtatious smile and says easily, “Hi.”
He doesn't need to be an expert in body language to understand what's going on. It's clear from the nervous glance Shannon throws in his direction and the way Buck's posture relaxes as he starts making small talk with her, turning up the charm like he does when he's flirting.
Yeah, he got it. He's just having a little trouble believing it.
And he's not the only one who did, because he notices Chimney shaking his head with an eye roll as he fills another cup of hot cocoa for the next person in line. But Chimney thinks this is just another one of Buck's conquests. He doesn't know that this is Eddie's wife.
“So, you came here to donate that?” Buck asks, pointing at the toy firetruck in her hands. "The kids are going to love it."
Shannon nods, glancing quickly at Eddie again before turning back to Buck, saying, “And to talk to Eddie.”
Buck's brows lift in surprise and glances between them with curiosity. "You two know each other?”
And finally, finally, Eddie’s tongue unsticks itself from the roof of his mouth and he manages to say, “We're married.”
As if in slow motion, he watches as Buck’s eyes flick between Eddie and Shannon, his expression shifting from surprise to horror to panic and thinks, Yup. You slept with my wife, buddy.
"Shannon is Christopher's mom." Eddie clarifies further but Buck seems to be frozen now, horrified by the realization that he fucked his best friend's wife and was just flirting with her in front of him.
“Holy shit.” Chimney says from between them, and Eddie has to agree. Holy shit indeed, because he has no idea what to do now. His heart is beating a mile a minute and he's very deliberately trying not to think about the fact that it's not anger or betrayal he's feeling, but something closer to confused arousal. Why the fuck is he getting turned on by thinking about his best friend fucking his wife?? What the hell is wrong with him?
"Eddie..." Shannon starts, and Eddie just blurts out what he was going to say before this whole thing started.
"What are you doing here?"
Shannon takes a deep breath, seemingly deciding to ignore what just happened too, and says, "You won't answer my texts or return my calls."
Eddie gives her a strained smile and reaches around her to accept another toy. "This is not the place."
"Maybe it's the perfect place," Shannon argues. "because we can have a conversation that doesn't end up with us in bed."
Eddie's chin drops slightly and he stares at Shannon, her words leaving him speechless for a few seconds.
"Follow me." he ends up saying, ignoring Chimney's excited muttering and Buck's very loud silence, and leads Shannon to the locker room where they can have some privacy.

911 Fic: Outnumbered
Buck and kids - need i say more? It was an idea that wouldn't leave my head. I played a little bit with the canon timeline to make this work.
~ 800 words
__________________________
Buck’s day off goes from 0-60 mph so fast he’s not exactly sure how it happens. Well, that’s not true. He intellectually knows how it happens. But…he’s still confused.
It starts with him offering to hang out with Chris for the day. Eddie decided to take an extra shift and Buck never says no to hanging out with his best boy. He has plans for them to play video games, eat too much pizza and ice cream, and prank call Eddie as often as they can get away with.
…and then Maddie calls.
“Josh is way too many people short today.” She says in a panic and Buck can hear from the noise on her end that she’s in the car, “Chimney’s in Sacramento for that conference and I’ve got no one to watch Jee…”
She trails off and Buck laughs, “Just come drop her off.”
It may not have been the day he planned, but hanging with his best boy AND his best girl is hardly a hardship. Maddie barely gets out her ‘thank you’ as she kisses him on the cheek after handing him the baby and the diaper bag and then she’s out the door.
Buck turns to his niece, who is putting her hands on his cheeks and giggling, and smiles, “You ready for a fun day with your uncle and your cousin?”
…and then Hen calls.
“Maddie tells me you have Jee?” She says without saying hello.
“Hi to you too.” He says as he watches Chris attempt to teach Jee patty cake.
“Yeah. Hi. Look, Jee and Nia were supposed to have a playdate today because Karen and I are going to a spa.” She explains.
“Uhhhh…” Buck says.
“I would owe you so much if you’d watch Nia for us.” She says when he continues to hesitate.
“Can’t you…reschedule?” He asks. It’s not that he doesn’t want to see Nia, she’s adorable, but having two kids under the age of two in the apartment? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
“They won’t let us reschedule. We’d be losing out so much.” Hen answers, “Please Buck.”
Buck really needs to learn how to say ‘no’. Especially when Hen drops Nia off and Denny (who they had been planning on dropping off with another family friend) sees that Christopher is also at the apartment.
A round of puppy dog eyes later (Denny to Hen and Hen to Buck) means that Buck now has two nine-year-olds and two 18-month-olds in his apartment. He’s severely outnumbered.
…and then Denny calls Harry.
Buck’s not sure what is worse - having to stop Nia and Jee from using permanent marker on his kitchen cabinets or having to stop three tween boys from daring each other to see who can jump off the highest stair going up to Buck’s loft (he has no interest in earning the Ms. Flores treatment if he allows Christopher to get hurt on his watch).
He loses track of time and the amount of food he doles out. He actually runs out of food and has to offer Harry two crackers and a single slice of bologna when the boy says he’s hungry later in the afternoon.
If he makes it through this day…it will be a miracle.
– – –
Chris opens the door when Eddie knocks.
“Uhhhhh hey buddy.” Eddie says in confusion, reaching for his son’s backpack and slinging it over his own shoulder, “Where’s Buck? You shouldn’t be answering the door by yourself.”
“I saw on Buck’s phone that you were here.” Chris explains, “So I knew it was you.”
Eddie nods, “But where’s Buck?”
Chris shuffles backwards and nods his head toward Buck’s living room. Eddie enters the apartment and peaks around the stairs. What he sees makes his heart clench.
Buck’s fast asleep on his couch sitting up but slouched down so his head is on the back of the couch and his feet are on his coffee table. He’s got a fast asleep Jee-Yun on his chest and she has a fist balling up his shirt at his chest.
“It was a busy day.” Chris says, having made his way to his father’s side.
Eddie smiles softly, taking Chris’s backpack off his shoulder, “What do you say we make some dinner for the three of us and let Buck and Jee rest for a while?”
“I don’t think there’s any food left.” Chris says.
Eddie chuckles in disbelief, scrunching his eyebrows for a moment, “I’m really going to need to hear about this day.” He says, “In that case, why don’t we order pizza?”
Chris smiles, “Sounds safer than you cooking anyway.”
Eddie gets a mock offended look on his face before ruffling Chris’ hair and pulling out his phone to call the pizza place. He’ll let Buck and Jee nap until the food gets here.

wip whenever
I was tagged by @monsterrae1 a few days ago for wip wednesday… and well… my week has been a tad on the busy side.  So wip whenever…. Yeah.  Anyways thanks for the tag as always!  Tagging whoever would like to participate—no pressure. Banner by @radio-chatter

Title: Sleepless in LA, chapter 2: April
Fandom: 911
Pairings: Buddie endgame, will have mentioned Buck/Ali, probably Buck/Taylor and Buck/Abby mentions (at least… I haven’t decided how much taylor is going to appear) as well as prior Eddie/Shannon, and Eddie/Ana
Fic summary:
Navigating the aftermath of Shannon’s death, Eddie never thought he’d be a widower by age thirty-two and raising a kid on his own without any help. When Christopher calls into one of those late-night talk radio shows asking how to help his Dad, Eddie realizes that he needs to try and move on for Christopher’s sake, so he reluctantly starts dating what everyone tells him is the perfect woman for someone like him.
It turns out Christopher, and he have much different ideas of just who they need. Buck has had a terrible year.  His physical injuries from the truck bombing were bad enough but having Ali leave him seems like a sign from the universe that he’s always meant to be alone. Listening to the radio at night, he hears the most adorable kid ever talking about how his Dad is sad and needs a new partner—LA kids are pretty progressive, and this Christopher kid isn’t particular if his Dad ends up with a woman or a man. It almost gives him hope, but who would want to date a firefighter who can’t help anyone?
A chance encounter on a pier, a tsunami, and a promise to meet up at the Griffith Park Observatory on Valentine’s Day brings together two soulmates who, in another life, would have met very differently.
Warnings/tags: alternative first meetings, heavily inspired by Sleepless in Seattle but not a fusion, tsunami arc/truck bombing arc, Christopher Diaz is a national treasure, heavy angst, peril of characters (but not this part unless you consider depression being in peril), first draft
Also, I made some new art to go with. Not really this chapter but… yeah.
Tumblr media
Physical therapy started even before the cast came off the third week of April.  Bobby drove him to his first appointment but Buck noticed how pale under his tan Bobby got when he picked him up afterwards.  Buck had been completely worn out by a forty-five minute appointments.  His stamina and physical fitness prior to the accident had been excellent which he’d been told repeatedly by all the medical professionals was probably why he’d been able to keep his leg instead of ending up with an amputation.
Well, all that fitness had vanished and he felt weak as a newborn kitten.
Bobby had noticed and immediately began to hover, unable to hide how guilty he felt about Buck being injured.
It wasn’t Bobby’s fault.  Buck had been clear on that.  The only person responsible was Freddie Costas, but what was even the point in blaming him?  The kid had lost his dad and gone off the deep end… which Buck could understand.
What he couldn’t stand was Bobby looking at him like he was so Buck said he’d make his own way to his therapy appointments.  Maddie worked a lot of day shifts so she couldn’t take him to very many either and he hated asking her because she inevitably brought up what he was going to do with his life.   Buck hadn’t bothered asking Athena, Hen, or Chim because he didn’t want to find out what they thought of things or his life choices.
Making his own way, at first, meant just ordering an Uber but that got expensive.  While he was getting disability pay, Buck knew that he couldn’t depend on that forever.  So he’d become an expert on mass transit in LA and the power of a TAP card.
It also had the additional benefit of taking up more of his time.
All he had was time anymore with nothing to fill it.
Too much time meant spending it in his head, worrying about how he was going to get back to work or how he was going to help people instead of being a useless do-nothing.

If You Break It
Buckweek2022 Day 4 Prompt: You're my family. No matter What Teen 3.2K Read on AO3
Buck finds Eddie in his kitchen washing dishes with a little too much enthusiasm. He winces recognising the signs of an unhappy and stressed Eddie Diaz. He’d already known that of course, it’s why he’s here after all because Eddie called him, because he needs help.
And when Eddie needs him he’ll always be there.
Buck alerts the preoccupied man to his arrival and he turns with a relieved sigh. Some of the tension leaves Eddie’s broad shoulders at the sight of him and he’s quietly pleased that just by being here he’s helping in some way.
Eddie steps towards him and for a second Buck thinks he’s going to get hugged but Eddie pulls up short and Buck has to make do with a smile instead.
“Thanks for coming so fast. I didn’t know what else to do.” Eddie’s eyes flick towards Christopher’s room and then back to Buck. Buck doesn’t like to see worry in those eyes, he prefers Eddie’s gaze like it usually is when they're together, soft and warm.
Eddie has a crease between his eyebrows and Buck puts his hands in his pockets to stop himself doing something stupid like trying to smooth it away. His worried friend completely oblivious to Buck’s impulses shakes his head as he carries on talking.
“I don’t know what’s wrong, he won’t talk to me ” the frown deepens “He said he hates me.”
Now Eddie actually looks upset and Buck can’t fight his impulses any longer. His hands make a break for freedom and he finds one of them clutching Eddie’s bicep, his thumb making soothing circles over the sleeve of his shirt.
His heart might flutter a little when Eddie covers that hand with his own. He doesn’t think Eddie’s even aware that he’s done it, that his own thumb is matching the movement of Buck’s, stroking the back of his hand slowly.
After a moment Eddie’s eyes meet his again and ask a silent question. Buck knows what he wants. “You want me to try?”
“Please” Eddie looks so relieved Buck would laugh if he wasn’t feeling worried about Chris himself.
He allows himself another moment of indulgence, rubbing Eddie’s arm in a reassuring fashion then he goes to find out just what’s upset Christopher.
Just before he makes it out the door Eddie’s voice calls out “I really don’t know what I’d do without you.” He’s trying to smile but it’s only partially successful.
Buck’s happy to reassure him and he means every word “Well, not going anywhere so don’t worry about that.
*
Christopher’s voice answers the knock on his closed door.
“Go away!”
Buck winces, that's not particularly encouraging.
“Hey buddy it's me. Can I come in?”
“Buck?”
He opens the door a crack.
“Hi Chris,” he doesn’t get told to go away again so that’s positive. He opens the door a bit more “you ok if I come in?”
As soon as Christopher nods, Buck enters and settles on the cabinet by his door, closing it again.
He finds the little dinosaurs he's played with before and starts to fiddle with them, giving Chris time to talk. He doesn’t so the dinosaurs start to fight each other with accompanying growls and roars and when Christopher giggles at his silliness Buck smiles back and takes the opening.
“Soooooo…. Wanna talk about it?”
“No”
“Your Dad’s worried about you, he says you're upset”
Chris' voice is much grumpier than usual, “I’m not upset I’m mad.”
“Ok” he leaves a gap but Christopher doesn’t elaborate so Buck starts to investigate.
“Did something happen at school?
He gets a quick shake of the head, Chris’ eyes are still averted.
“So it’s not your teachers or your friends?”
Another shake.
“Me?”
That makes Chris look at him, his voice tells Buck how ridiculous he thinks that idea is, “Don’t be silly Buck.”
“You know it’s ok to be mad at grown ups right? If they’ve done something wrong or upset you you should tell someone. One day you might be mad at me and that’s ok, I’d want to know about it so I could try and fix it.”
This time Christopher’s glance is more thoughtful, Buck pushes on “If you tell me maybe we can work something out, get you less mad?”
Chris opens his mouth but shuts it quickly, which means it’s most likely that this  is about - ”
Chris interrupts his thoughts “It’s Dad.”
Yes, that’s what he’d thought and probably what Eddie already knows. He stays quiet and he doesn’t have to wait much longer.
“He’s going to start dating again.”
Christopher blurts it out, his tone makes it quite clear how he feels about that. Buck feels like he’s been punched in the stomach.
All he manages as a response is a quiet word that sounds more like a gasp of air.
“Oh”
His mind is spinning, oh indeed. Such a small word to sum up the tumultuous feelings unleashed inside him. It’s a shock and while he certainly doesn’t welcome the news he has to put that aside and support Chris because Chris is upset. He’ll deal with his splintering heart later when he’s alone. He tries not to think about how alone he’ll be now if Chris is right about this.
It’s not that he doubts Chris but maybe he misunderstood, surely Eddie would have mentioned it to him if he was thinking about doing that again.
He looks at Chris, he’s quietly seething.
“Ok. Ok” he prepares his heart “so how do you know? It feels like something your dad would talk to you about first.”
Chris’ anger transmutes into something a little guiltier, he looks down. That’s suspicious.
“Chris?”
The reply is almost too quiet to hear, Christopher mutters “‘He was talking to Carla. I was listening.”
“I see and you weren’t meant to be listening?” He already knows the answer.
“I didn't mean to, but I did hear them and he did say it and” Chris pauses then in a rush says  “and I don’t want him to.”
The words ‘neither do I’ run through his head but that's hardly fair to Eddie. He deserves to be happy and if he’s ready for this… well. Buck pushes down his unrequited feelings and does what’s right.
“Chris…” he starts but he isn’t really sure where his sentence will finish. He’s still reeling from Chris’ news.. Chris interrupts him anyway and breaks his heart a little more with his words.
“I don’t want you to go away like last time or for Dad to be unhappy again.” Chris looks at him, his eyes sad, “He wasn’t happy last time he dated.”
No he wasn’t, Buck hadn’t realised Chris saw it too.
“Then he got even more sad.”
Chris isn’t wrong about that either,  Buck's heart breaks for his boys and what they’ve been through. Not his, he reminds himself; not then, now now, not ever.
Chris' voice rises, sounding more upset now he’s revealed his worries.
“He’s only just got happy again. He’s happier now it’s just us. Just me and him and you!
Hearing himself included in that grouping makes his heart feels like it’s trapped in a vice. He wishes it was the three of them together, the family he wishes he had.
Chris looks at him expecting a solution, if only he had one.  Then Chris unleashes one more devastating sentence.
“He's happy when he’s with you.”
If only that was true.
“Chris…” he’d come in here to help and now he’s speechless.
They’ve been here before and last time he had useful things to say. This time is different because since then he’s fallen even more in love with Eddie, entwined himself into something he’s been pretending he could have permanently. He should have known it was only ever a matter of time before this happened.
He’s doesn’t want to give it up but that's immaterial. He has to put that all aside and help Chris and Eddie. Chris needs him to make this less scary and Eddie needs him to get out of the way so he can find love and happiness.
Chris sounds completely miserable now “And if dad starts dating you won’t come round anymore then I’ll miss you”
It’s almost a relief to hear that because it gives him something tangible to focus on.
“You won’t miss me because I’m not going anywhere. I told you that before.I meant it then I mean it now.”
Chris looks unconvinced,.
“Chris?” He holds out his little finger with a smile “pinkie promise, it’s the most serious of promises.” Chris still looks sad, Buck lets his smile fall away and says quiet and serious.
“Chris, you're my family. No matter what. Nothing will change that. I promise.”
Chris lifts his own  finger with the smallest of smiles.
*
Eddie takes one look at his face as he crosses the threshold into the kitchen and his expression falls, “Oh god it’s bad isn’t it?”
Buck curses silently. He’d tried to keep his feelings off his face but apparently when you have this many they leak out despite your best efforts. He plasters a smile on his face and aims for reassuring. “No, it’s not that bad but you are gonna have to talk to him.”
Eddie’s eyes close briefly and he shakes his head  “I knew it was my fault.”

Hmmmm ok feel free to ignore but I had a thought pop into my head and I can't shake it? So I wanted to share it!
Big brother Buck! Through whatever turn of events, Buck ends up with a little brother... like way younger, and Buck's basically in charge of him. But like... end of s1 Buck getting custody of his little brother. Which would lead to Buck at school events, Buck and his brother debating when to correct people who think Buck's his dad incorrectly, a whole new layer to Maddie showing up and Buck 2.0 in general! Bobby is like "really consider if you're ready to step up and care for this kid" for all of like an hour at which point the fatherly discussions with eye contact shift to reassuring encouragement and proud shoulder pats. And for the buddie of our all - the little brother being about Christopher's age. Are they besties or do they dislike each other? (I'm leaning towards besties) THE TSUNAMI WITH 2 KIDS
Sorry for losing it in your ask box. I'm just overrun with mental images slotting a little brother into Buck's life starting around the end of s1. The possibilities!!
Omg nonnie, never apologise. I love this!
I'm trying to come up with some convoluted way Margaret and Phillip would have anotI can't see it... but this is play pretend so why the hell not.
Adding a read more because I went a little wild 😂
They only ever planned on having two kids, but then Daniel got sick and they had Buck in a desperate attempt to save Daniel.
I don't think they'd take the risk of getting pregnant again. But I can just imagine, what if Margaret does get pregnant with some misguided idea that maybe this is the child that will heal her.
It never works out that way, of course. The baby is blonder and curlier than Buck was and it's a mistake.
In the meantime, Buck is 25/26, has finished training to become a firefighter, and he's found his place with the 118 after a rocky start.
He's a changed man. He's Buck 2.0 now and he decides to reconnect with his parents. He calls them to let them know he's back in the US after a few years wandering aimlessly around the globe.
He finds out he has a brother and all he can think is 'no'. Because he knows what his parents are like. He knows what it is like to be raised by people who had no emotional availability for him. Who likely have none for this little kid.
He doesn't know what to do. Maddie would know, but he hasn't heard from her in three years.
But the difference was that he had Maddie, but this kid has no one. He's alone.
So Buck decides to go home, take a few days off and fly over to his parents, and it just confirms all his worst fears.
He can't watch his parents treat this little kid the way they treated him, and that gives him the courage to challenge his parents and call them out (maybe it leads to him finding out about Daniel earlier??)
He tells his parents he's taking his little brother back to LA with him, and they don't even put up a fight.
And just like that, Buck is the sole guardian of his much younger brother.
Captain Dad Bobby is immediately on board, teaching Buck to make easy, kid friendly meals.
But what changes?
He's still a bit standoffish when Eddie joins but,
"I love kids."
"I love this one."
"Hey, he looks about the same age as—" Buck pulls out his phone to show Eddie his little brother.
Maddie cannot believe her parents could do this again. Also, she can't believe her little brother is taking care of her littler brother, and I think there would be some (misplaced) guilt over leaving them. But she's proud of Buck 2.0 and the way he's stepped up to take care of their little brother.
But oh my god. The truck bombing! Maddie offers to look after their brother while Buck is recovering but he doesn't want to leave Buck.
Buck's cast is covered in art by the time it's removed.
The tsunami! Buck sitting on top of the ladder truck with Chris tucked in on one side and his brother on the other 😭
I love this so much.
