for the ask game I present you with two for your consideration: kaginose and OgasawaraxMiyano

I've seen some talk of kagi and ichinose on Twitter before, but I've never really gotten the full picture there because their only link is Hirano

For Ogasawara and Miyano, we must first remove the trauma of BL inflicted on Ogasawara by Eimi. Then, without that "omg a fudanshi, this kid is bad news" preconception, we start with a clear slate. It would take some work so it doesn't make a lot of sense right away, but I can very clearly see the "Wow, I can't believe this is a guy. He's so soft just like a girl," thought bubble over Ogasawara's head, much like Sasaki's

hi morgan! Really interesting choices—I thought I’d considered a lot of ssmy rarepairs, but I’ve actually never thought about these two at all. putting my thoughts under the cut because I’ve been doing it for all these asks haha

for kagiura/ichinose, I’m going to say that as it stands, it doesn’t make sense, does compel me. every time I pick out a classification I always want to clarify these statements, which is why I ramble so much afterwards haha.

so the reason for this is that I feel ichinose and hirano are very different people. when they’re discussing dormmates, hirano mentions that ichinose was rather laidback as a senior, while hirano’s definitely a fussy type. so I think kagiura and ichinose as people are just… the type who’d keep their distance from each other? like, ichinose wouldn’t push into his space, and neither would kagiura. however the reason it does compel me is simply like. it could compel me, if it happened. because I love ichinose.

and I’ve always seen ichinose as someone who’s laidback kind of because… he has to? like, with his stomach aches and everything, I feel like he’s the type of person to be like… ah, I shouldn’t make too much trouble for others. let me act really casual so people don’t worry about me too much. and I think he’s a bit sensitive towards how other people feel, so I think he, like hirano, would probably intervene in kagiura was pushing himself. he’d just have to take an interest first. and then you have this fun balance of someone who seems very breezy and someone who’s rather serious and dedicated. ichinose could catch feelings and then be embarrassed about catching feelings. the situation there could be fun…

for ogasawara/miyano, I’m going to go with doesn’t make sense, doesn’t compel me. I actually feel like you don’t need to remove the BL aspect at all—it’s kind of the point that causes the most tension, and therefore interest, between the two. despite his looks, miyano’s pretty manly, which is something that impresses ogasawara. like, by the time that he’s graduated, I think ogasawara has a pretty good opinion of miyano. the only thing is that I can’t really see anything progressing past mutual respect.

ogasawara’s a pretty rough-and-tumble guy, and yeah, he reacted weirdly to BL in part because of eimi, but I think he wouldn’t acted kind of roughly even if he hadn’t known eimi. because ogasawara’s just a blunt kind of person. I think ogasawara can be really cute, but on miyano’s end, I feel like he’d end up not feeling too comfortable with ogasawara being kind of… callous, almost? let’s say that. from the little we see of ogasawara and eimi they may argue but they clearly love and adore each other. eimi also hung out with sasaki and stuff, so we can tell that he and eimi probably share music tastes and they both have strong personalities.

I just feel like ogasawara, even though he’s a very sweet person, wouldn’t be that gentle of a person? and like… sasaki is. sasaki deliberately speaks in a way that’s much kinder and gentler when he’s talking to miyano, and I think that gentleness is part of why miyano likes him so much. on the other end, because their interests differ so much, I don’t know if ogasawara would really be that romantically into miyano. I think they both really respect each other, though… these two are kind of really dedicated people in different ways, which is neat.

like you said, though… if someone wrote something really good, I might be compelled!

Just curious since it's been a while since the last time but will you be writing any fic for characters or properties that are not your own in the near future?

You can just call it fanfic! :D :D

I'd like to, but I frankly haven't been hugely into any fandoms for a couple of years. Or the fandoms I've really gotten into have pretty much no fanfiction attached (and hell, I've even written some fics for those), and the fandom experience is very different to how it used to be.

But honestly even outside of the fandom experience changing, I just haven't loved a show or anything enough to want to fic for it more than anything else. I really really miss writing fanfiction, but there's been nothing that's really captured my attention for more than a few weeks, and that's not enough to sustain like, writing a longfic like I used to. Some of that is probably the fact that TV etc. is now released all at once instead of week by week a lot of the time. But some of it is also just that...like, while I enjoy a lot of things, I don't feel like ficcing for it.

I came close with Arcane, but the pairing I like had almost no fics (and only like two short porny fics - nothing wrong with that!) and I get, frankly, tired of writing rarepairs. And again, I didn't actually love Arcane, I thought it was very pretty, I disliked a lot of the characters, and it's hard to kind of rev yourself up for one side pairing in that situation.

Likewise I am still curious about writing an old Bull/Cullen fic idea, but it's very old, the fandom is very quiet, it's still a rarepair, and it's hard to commit two years of my life to something I might end up abandoning.

I really miss being deep deep into a fandom, frankly. It's not like I stopped watching TV or movies, or stopped playing video games. But nothing's really spoken to me. Television has either become more excessively grimdark, or more wholesome, and none of it really has what used to hook me in, in the past. It's actually something I've kind of been grieving. Even these days I struggle to find fanfiction written recently that I really love compared to older fics in my bookmarks. It's like... it all has disclaimers for antis, or caveats, or it's weirdly wholesome and pure (fine if you like it, but don't advertise it as whump/angst/hurt/comfort/darkfic), or it's excessively dark to the point of just being a tragedy, etc.

I know there are still really good fandom spaces. If I was still in Mo Dao Zu Shi fandom things might be different, but I felt edged out of that fandom by The Untamed folks kind of taking it over and not separate-tagging their fics, which was just a 'oh I have ideas! Oh...actually never mind' experience.

But yeah I'm just... I mean it sucks. I love writing fanfiction, but the last thing I wrote was last year and it wasn't very long. I thought about returning to the Hades fandom, but again, I just didn't have a very...intense fandom experience, the kind of thing that really revs you up and excites you to write fanfiction! Fandom without community is lonely, and while I don't go as deep into fandoms as others, I still...like some of it?

This is a very navel gazing way of saying 'something will have to change in the media landscape, or in the world around me, or maybe even in me' to make fanfic a 'near' possibility. I have no actual plans to commit to any fanfic in the future, I'm just more excited about things like Underline the Black, which honestly has ALL the tropes I love in fandom, and struggle to find (same with a lot of the other things I write). I consider a lot of my original writing to be an homage to fandom and the fanfiction serial style, but yeah in terms of the literal fanfic, damn, I really miss being hooked on a TV show or a movie or a game and the pandemic has kind of killed that part of me, and so has the shenanigans of antis changing the general fandom climate (if you're putting in disclaimers in your fics just for the sake of antis please fucking stop), and the way TV releases now, and the empty sense of endlessness re: Marvel movies and shows, and just...I don't know.

It's sad and I hate it and I wish it wasn't that way, but it has been this way for a lot of the pandemic and I don't know if/when it will come back. I hope it does. I miss it so much. Meeting new people through writing fanfiction was one of my favourite things, I have friends from different fandoms still, and just... *sighs*

Oof. I'm very sad now. Tl;dr - No, I don't have any plans to write fanfiction in the near future, and it sucks.

i said this earlier but like genuinely i do not want most ships to become canon. theyre wonderful in fanon but theyd be horrible in canon. call me sega but theres only a few i actually want to see becoming canon (mostly espilver, though theres also knuxouge, whispangle and quite a few amy ships).

a part of that is going to be because everyone being aroace is weirdly comforting, in a way. i love romance and the idea of it (GIANT alloace hopeless romantic), however its exhausting in a way friendship isnt. ive had many many many platonic crushes but none of them have stressed me out quite as much as the romantic ones (i must admit: they still stress me out). ive never dated so i cant really give any experience about those relationships in action, but if theyre anything like what ive seen, heard or imagine, then jesus theyre stressful

thats not to mention what i imagine is the reason the mandates are in place: i do NOT like shipping wars. dont get me wrong, theres some ships i hate purely because they overshadow a cute rarepair or something, however theres the obvious thing of, 'if we make them a canon couple, people will be angry,' that sega wants to avoid. dont get me wrong, i think banning all romance whatsoever is a pretty cowardly move on their part and sort of extends to 'but not for this tho' (mostly for sonamy), however its also comforting, in a way. i know this ship could never become canon therefore the fact it isn't doesn't mean anything. idk its half 2 in the morning on a school night you dont need to listen to me.

This is supposed to be my rounding up post for @justleaveacommentfest but I'm cheating because I'm making it into...

Chasm Delving Highlight Reel: Special Just Leave a Comment Edition

At this point I should be real and say that I almost always leave comments. It's just a matter of having the energy but, as any of the authors I follow could tell you, I'm actually your weirdly joyful recurring commenter. I'll leave you sincere emoji hearts and "Thank you for writing!" and several "I love this so muuuuch!" or comments about how you made me cry (it's true, y'all make me cry and laugh and yelp.)

No regrets at all, though the comment bot stuff had me rethink my approach to sound a little more like I was actually reading.

I say this so you'll understand that while I didn't rack up numbers on the comment fest, that was because I've commented on most of the fics that are in my bookmarks. I needed new stuff and there was not enough time on the week to read everything I wanted.

General numbers are: 12 comments on 10 fics (one was updating daily and yes I did the thing.)

But I read a bit and found some good stuff! Which led me to the thought "why not make those into recs as well?" After all, it's been a while.

Since I know how wordy I get, I'll put the rest behind the cut. Click for some sweet sweet Genshin Impact recs!

On the 10th the prompt was old fics and new fics.

Despite the site issues, I actually managed to leave a comment on a new fic!

General vibe: it's a reconciliation fic, but starts with a fist-fight

Yeah, yeah, I know most of you prefer reconciliation fics to be about the guys being forced to work together with maybe a side of hurt/comfort, but this fic feels real in a way that'll appeal to anyone with siblings.

The dialogue is fire and Lumine is a marvelous goblin. Also Venti does a sneaky thing, which is something I always approve.

For the 11th the theme was Old, New and under 2k.

Let's start with the new ones (I literally opened the tag and browsed for something that caught my eye.)

This fic was under 2k when it was posted originally, but we sorta egged the author on and now it's a 3 chapter (no regrets at all, I love all of it.) You should read it if you need to soothe your soul.

Alhaitham/Cyno fake dating fic, mostly played for comedy (or is it?) Since it's very short I won't spoil you by saying anything else about it. Short and funny is a perfect combo, isn't it?

A new chapter of Paper, Glass, Steel, and Bone [or, The Tensile Strength of Tenacity] by kawree dropped on the 12th and of course I had to read it and comment.

I keep telling everyone to read this fic with mixed results (the rarepair experience after all), but if you want a big cup of Kaeya to go with his cameo in the current event, this fic is what you're looking for.

There's so much lovely banter! The first chapter is a charmer, but I really love that "dinner with the old timers" scene later on (also the hair-brushing one, but all kinds of qpr things make me go weak on the knees) (the thing about the dinner scene is that it's got good dialogue, emotional cues and *throws glitter* drama) and the dialogue in this latest chapter. Ugh, feelings.

The 12th was for AUs so I get to rec the infuriating smart people AU Chiluc fic! Yay!

Edit: I found out the author would rather I don't rec them, so I'm removing this link because I'm too much of a sinner for them.

I also managed to read one of those fics that had been lingering on my Read Later.

It’s like Alice in Wonderland but after falling through a rabbit hole instead of anthropomorphic creatures, card soldiers, and hookah-smoking caterpillars, you get gay smut by Grymmeoir

Rated: Mature (there is sex at the very end of it) (just saying because the rest of the fic is pretty much teen)

General vibe: absolute crack

Trigger warning: none, unless you react really badly to second-hand embarrassment because Oh Boy

This is an Actor AU Childe/Zhongli thing that is kinda of a fusion with a webnovel that I haven't actually read. It's very funny and was a great thing to read while a cyclone raged outside (we get Weather over here in the bog) (I swear everything's fine.)

When I say this is crack you have to believe me. This fic is about a man that is so fucking oblivious he thinks shipping himself with someone else has nothing to do with real feelings. And let's not talk about Zhongli. 100% proof crack. Fun to read though.

The 13th was for rarepairs, which is a conceptual issue for me in this fandom.

There are two kinds of ships in Genshin: the ones with a whole bunch of fics of all kinds and the ones with 20 smut fics to their name. I'm not very much into smut :/ So I'd like you all to pretend Chiscara is a rarepair. Okay? Okay.

A sweet little fic about finding out someone was in love with you hundreds of years ago (and might still be?) and/or seeing your love letter in a museum. Very much canon noncompliant as every single shippy fic is, yes, but also because of making stuff up about post-canon. Perfectly nice stuff, though. And, also, very importantly, about IMMORTALS IN LOVE. Big bold letters because that's my absolute favorite romance trope (yes, I'm the audience for all those xianxia dramas about reincarnation and eternal pining.)

The 14th was for trying something new...

... but I'll be real here and say that this was the day that I found this trove of short Kaeluc recs, which is the very opposite of something new.

Then I felt bad for doing the opposite of the prompt and decided to read a rarepair from one of the characters I don't usually ship, in this case the Wanderer.

(please ignore the fact that this list has another Wanderer ship fic. I generally headcanon babygirl as aroace for obvious reasons.)

Best choice I could have made, since I found a fic that made me stay awake past bedtime (best kind of fic).

This fic is tagged as relationship study, but it's more like a character study of both of them, together and alone. The author here does this spectacular thing, managing to write an one-shot that reads like 50 chapters of slow burn.

The relationship develops in this slow, gentle way and the prose is absolutely beautiful. Seriously, this story is constructed like well-made lace in cobweb weight yarn.

(Additionally, if you are into reading people's thoughts about their writing, the author has a whole site with a bunch of commentary linked at the end notes. A real treat if you are also the sort of person that would be suffering in Haravatat.)

Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Liz Ortecho x Michael Guerin (Roswell, New Mexico)

“You’re falling asleep again.”

Barely a murmur in her ear, Liz almost doesn’t hear Michael’s amused observation. Which only proves his point, she supposes.

Forcing her eyes wide open, she blinks rapidly and stares up at the stars. They try desperately to close again even as she says, “No, I’m awake. Promise.”

“If you’re awake then I must be human,” Michael quips back. But he must see her struggling not to nod off again as he sighs. “Come on. There’s nothing else you can do tonight. No use in you exhausting yourself and then being useless when you’re needed.”

“Gee, thanks,” Liz replies sarcastically, but she has to rub her eyes and sit up straighter as her head seems to be swaying heavily on her shoulders.

She knows he’s right. She’s done everything she can to help him with the spaceship parts tonight. Now it’s just the waiting. The worst part, really.

“What if something happens while I’m gone?” she asks, turning her head to look ar him, still having to blink to unsuccessfully focus her vision on him. “I don’t wanna miss something. And what if Kyle wakes up, he might—“

“Tell you what. Camp out here,” Michael says.

Liz glances down at the metal trailer they’re currently seated in. They had perched for a few moments to get some air, had talked for a little while, and now Liz’s legs body feels so heavy with sleep that it acrually doesn’t seem a bad place for a short rest.

Especially when Michael points out the blanket and pillow tucked up in the corner. For emergency naps, Michael explains with a comedic twinkle and a smile thag makes Liz chuckle.

“I guess it’s like camping,” she says, then casts an uncertain look out to the wide expanse of field and desert around them. “I haven’t camped in a while.”

“I’ll keep guard if you’re scared of the dark,” Michael jokes, but he’s already getting himself more comfortable, tucking a leg up onto the trailer.

Liz notices the way he blinks his hooded eyes and rubs one woth the heel of his palm. Now that she’s looking closely, there are dark circles beneath them. She wouldn’t be surprised if he hadn’t slept for the last week.

“There’s enough room for us both to take a quick power nap.” She points to the pillows as she takes the blanket. “And there are two of those. One each?”

Michael raises an eyebrow. His mouth twitches. “Damn, Ortecho. We have a couple heart-to-hearts, save each other’s lives a few times, and now you want to share a bed? Well, the back of a truck.”

Liz rolls her eyes but her cheeks ache with a smile as she dryly responds, “How bold of me. Have I offended your so fragile gentleman etiquette?”

Michael finally cracks a proper grin. She pats the spot next to her and moves the pillows closer to them. He rolls his eyes back at her but he lies down beside her and allows her to throw the blanket over him too.

Despite sleep taking its hold on her, Liz fights it off for another moment or so, gazing up at the stars only to find that mildly unsettling and having to roll onto her side. Michael rolls his head to look at her.

“Kyle’s gonna be okay, you know,” he says softly, and while she knows he can’t be sure of that, it feels like he’s trying to promise. “And those results on the ship parts will give is results. You don’t need to lose sleep over it.”

It’s weirdly comforting to hear him say that. Liz thinks she responds with something in agreement but she can’t be sure if the words actually make it past her lips as her eyes close of their own accord, and she feels herself slipping off.

1. favorite fanfiction trope?

I'm honestly not sure ahaha... I really enjoy any kind of platonic intimacy so a lot of fluff & hurt/comfort fics fill that need.

But other tropes I really enjoy are Time Loops, Kid Fics, Body Swaps...A well written sickfic is also very <333

2. what is your favorite ship dynamic? do you have a type?

I think my type is 'characters with an established history and mutual trust'

It's honestly pretty rare for me to REALLY get into a ship (I'll say I ship it, but honestly that just means I like the potential dynamic but not really focus much on the romance aspect), but for the few ships I genuinely adore, it tends to be between characters who have known each other for a very long time and have an established trust & closeness.

6. favorite AU?

I like Canon Divergence AUs! Role Swaps/For Want Of A Nail... Generally I prefer canon adjacent aus to alternate setting ones (at least for reading fic. For just plotting with friends all aus are fun)

MDZS/TGCF crossovers are also very great! :D

14. rec an author that you think deserve more spotlight

I think SilliamChronicles deserves a huge shoutout here! Sill has only started writing fics recently, but those fics have been really great!! <3

misery loves company is AMAZING! (It's a very stabby Xisang-ish fic with really great NHS & LXC characterization!)

15. what rarepair you think has a lot of potential

Am I expected to answer anything other than PeiXuan here? XD

They have the long history! They have an established trust & closeness even if it's buried under the fact that SQX outwardly can't stand PM. They just feel like two people connected through someone they love a lot, and have a lot of potential to drift closer together after they lose that someone.

Also just... Pei Ming has some Experience when it comes to friendship betrayals. Even if he may not be able to help, he can Understand and give SQX a space to process that betrayal and everything that happened.

(and also, even in a non romantic light, I just think there's a lot of untapped potential between PM & SQX's relationship pre & post-canon. I have a lot of feelings about them and I just want all the PeiXuan content T_T)

16. what tags do you search first when entering a fandom?

I usually start with my favorite character tag (order by kudos) & then my favorite relationship with that character. 99.9% of the time this relationship is platonic haha

(for mdzs, it was Nie Bros. for tgcf it was Shiblings haha)

17. which fandom was the first one that you read fanfiction in?

Probably either Pokemon or Yugioh GX... I think Pokemon was the first fandom I started browsing on ff.net, but I also feel like there was this one really bad yugioh gx fic I read on a forum, sometime before I knew what fanfic was. I have a lot of weirdly specific memories about it xD

20. what strength do you think your current fandom has?

There are so many amazing authors and fics out there!! :D

The mxtx fandom is one of the largest ones I've been in a very long time, and it's a delight to have so much content to read (I say, as I read a very small amount that fills my very specific niche tastes).

There are also so many events! :D It's a great way to stay engaged with the fandom!

My top 3 are Glee (when I started on AO3, but not when I started publishing fanfic), Tolkien (Main fandom for many years), and Star Wars (longest fandom) - but, I have others including fandoms in which I barely remember writing anything - mostly because they were crossovers, lol.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Not usually, though I have on occasion. I used to be more prolific with it, but then Comes Around Again blew up and I couldn’t keep up. I always read them, however, and they make me smile.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Chapter 6/Day 6 of Changes. Spoilers, but it’s Legolas prepping Gimli for burial - but day 7 is reincarnation AU! They get their happy ever after, in every life. I don’t DO angst if there’s no comfort.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written?

LOTR/Starsky and Hutch. Or possibly LOTR/Star Wars (which was inspired by another author, whom I’m not sure wants to be associated with it). I’ve also written Teen Wolf/Supernatural, but I don’t think that’s as crazy.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I think most authors who hit a certain level of readership do, unfortunately. I’ve never been personally attacked, thankfully (save for one comment on a tumblr fic prompt idea that I had that accused me of stealing ideas, but I have no idea what they were talking about), but I get the “oh, this wasn’t to my tastes” or “ew, you chose this?/made this character choice?” kinda thing - mostly on Old Man Luke. There have been some *Debates* in the comment section about my interpretation of the canon - often making reference to parts of legends that I have no exposure to, like the video games. Weirdly, I’ve gotten a few that were mad that I used Old Luke from the sequels, even though it’s clearly a different take on what Old Luke could have been. *shrug*

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

yuuuup. Published in a book, even. That was M/F. In fandom, it’s mostly slash, occasionally het/MMF. I’ve written lesbians, but I’m not sure they’re anywhere readable these days, it was a while ago.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yep! I Know It When I See It is in Russian, and others that aren’t formally connected. And podfics, too!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, some Trek fics with an author who has since left fandom as a whole.

What's your all time favorite ship?

I don’t have one that supersedes all others, but I do have one that will dominate each fandom. So, Gigolas is my favorite for LOTR. Quiobi for Star Wars, Stucky for Marvel, Mingcheng for the Untamed (my most dominant rarepair). But honestly, in most cases, if it’s well written I’ll read it. I’m not down for incest ships, tho.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I’m having a hard time thinking of what comes next for Two Weeks - that fic changes so much from the original idea. It was supposed to be a beach episode!

What are your writing strengths?

Um. I’m better at identifying weaknesses, but I’ve had people say that my writing is “professional” which - I would hope, considering my degree, haha. I’ve been told that I’m good at description and dialogue.

What are your writing weaknesses?

plot, setting, punctuation

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I tend to leave it in English if the pov character is supposed to understand it, as it helps facilitate the “you know what this character knows” thing. If they don’t understand, I don’t tend to write out the dialogue. That’s my preference: I certainly enjoy fic with dialogue in another language, especially Russian or Latin, as those are the two I studied.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

....Muppet Babies, the one from the 80s. I was in, like, kindergarten and just learning to write. It was in my journal. But, when I knew what I was doing was fanfic? Due South.

What's your favorite fic you've written?

Drowned in Moonlight, which was my tribute to Carrie Fisher when she passed, and Legacy and Finding Comfort, both of which were written in one sitting. However, I am a little in awe of what Comes Around Again has become, seemingly when I wasn’t looking. And Ex Delicto was fun, though if I wrote it today, I’d make it more clearly segmented.

holster knows he’s big ok? and he realizes pretty quick his sophomore year that bitty is Not Great at handling large guys coming at him quickly. so out of consideration for this tiny frosh, who is cute but holster can also tell is scared shitless by ransom and holster being their loud selves, holster tries to be conscious of bitty and respect his space (and also not yell too much around him because who knows what specifically bothers him)

and the great thing about ransom and holster being best bros for so long is that holster doesn’t have to explain what he’s doing to ransom, ransom just kind of matches him and that’s that

and holster is delighted every time bitty opens up a bit more and relaxes a bit more around the team, and when he comes out to ransom and holster holster internally is like oh. oh of COURSE. of course big loud jocks who talk about hooking up with women all the time and check people really hard on the ice bother him. duh holster

but holster would NEVER hurt someone for being gay that’s a huge asshole move and he feels it is Very Important That Bitty Knows That Holster Would Never Hurt Him. why does he feel it’s so important?? that’s a question for later holster isn’t a whole ‘analyze my feelings’ dude

so holster actively makes an effort to be around bitty in a non-threatening way. by a couple of months into spring semester they’re very comfortable around each other, comfortable enough that bitty jokes about their size difference and at one point he literally jumps into holster’s arms (who catches him on instinct) and then holster is like oh my god i’m holding bitty. oh my god he’s so small but so muscular. oh my god his hair smells so nice oh god oh fUCK

there is literally so much more under the cut. (send me ur headcanons for rarepairs/qpps!)

bitty, for his part, was initially very wary of ransom and holster for exactly the reasons holster figured out. it also doesn’t help that ransom dresses like a preppy frat bro and holster dresses like a messy frat bro. they’re both frat bros and bitty takes a long time to warm up to them.

but what does help is the way holster always lets bitty know he’s there before he gets too close (sometimes bitty is in the zone in the kitchen and doesn’t notice things like his teammates entering), and the way he doesn’t friendly-punch bitty like he does ransom. or jack. or shitty. or even lardo honestly nobody’s safe. except bitty is.

holster is also definitely responsible for putting some of bitty’s favorite songs on the kegster playlist and bitty definitely finds out and his heart warms a little more

and once bitty’s come out to ransom and holster and they don’t treat him any differently or weirdly and still profess their love for him when he bakes things without a single no homo, bitty finds himself hanging around with them a little more?

ransom likes to study in the attic without distractions so that means that bitty and holster wind up spending a lot more time together and listen. bitty can’t spend that much time with holster without noticing that the guy is a) extremely tall b) ripped and c) has an excellent jawline. and bitty is only human y’all

when he plays music in the kitchen holster will always dance (and sing along if he knows the words, or enough of the words to get them wrong in a funny way because bitty’s laugh sounds like angels singing and okay yeah holster is smitten)

holster Cannot make pies because he cannot touch pastry, bitty forbids him from trying before he even asks because his hands are too warm and he’ll fuck it all up. (holster, internally, is pleased bitty’s noticed. bitty, internally, is like fuck was that too weird) BUT if holster is in there he usually gets dragged into stirring things or chopping things or handing bitty sticks of butter from the fridge and basically whatever he can do without fucking up the pastry

and a while after that holster is like hang on wait it’s been a while since i realized i had a crush on bitty and it has Not gone away should i like. i don’t know. fucking tell him i’m into guys or something like that?? that would be smart

this is more how they get together than a list of headcanons LMAO i always get distracted and this is so fucking long omg

so he’s like rans. how do i do this. and ransom is like you should blast gettin’ bi from crazy ex girlfriend and holster is like weird. i love it.

other things holster does to subtly let bitty know he’s bi: loudly discuss his plans for going to pride that summer, make a lot of bi puns and hope one of them lands, show bitty funny posts from the lgbtq+ samwell student group on facebook

eventually bitty is like . hm. holster is either a VERY supportive ally. or he is trying to tell me something. and after the 80th bi meme post from the facebook group he’s like holster. hon. are you trying to tell me something

and holster is like YES. I AM BISEXUAL and bitty’s like oh that’s great!! (internally: can i climb him like a tree yet)

and then bitty’s like well thanks for telling me! and holster is like uh yeah! (because listen he’s good at wheeling but he is SO bad at wheeling bitty because this isn’t just someone cute he found at a kegster u know??? it’s BITTY and holster kind of wants to sweep him off his feet but in like. a gentlemanly way that won’t scare him)

when holster relates this interaction to ransom ransom is like oh my fucking god holster you could have told him and holster is like yeah and i did not for some fucking reason???????? ransom. i’m dumb and ransom is like no you just caught feelings

(bitty, to shitty: hey so uh. if a guy aggressively hints he’s into guys for like. a month. and then when i ask him straight out he tells me he’s bi. what does that mean. and shitty’s like i mean i wouldn’t know unless i know the guy?? but i wouldn’t ask u to tell me bc like. hes gotta choose who he’s out to u know and bitty’s like yeah i mean u know him but maybe i’ll ask him who else he’s out to bc i need some advice and shitty is like hell yeah)

so bitty’s like EXCELLENT. and then he talks to shitty again and is like IT’S HOLSTER AND I’M SUPER INTO HIM WHAT DO I DO and shitty’s like hooooo boy. and then HE’S like well uh. holster doesn’t like. feel the need to formally come out to people usually like the way he told me was by just telling me about a guy he hooked up with last year with zero context or warning? like i don’t know holster as well as, like, rans, but he definitely wants you specifically to know that he’s bi.

and bitty’s like intriguing. i’m gonna go combust now. and shitty’s like cool catch ya later.

so then bitty decides there’s only one way to find out if holster’s into him. and it’s not asking him, what the fuck?? no obviously not. it’s wearing very short shorts and touching him a lot and watching him to see if he blushes or gets flustered. bitty may not be a blunt or forthright person when it comes to hitting on people but he can at least make it impossible for holster to try and hide any feelings he may or may not have.

so rip holster is what i’m saying. but he also observes how much bitty is still watching him-- usually when bitty is doing something like wearing very short shorts or dancing at a kegster or flinging himself into holster’s lap-- and he’s like HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. because also holster is like way more experienced with like. relationships in general? like he’s familiar with what someone flirting with him looks like. so he’s like alright well if bitty wants to make me suffer i’m going to make him suffer too. (’rans can i borrow your skinny jeans’ ‘is this so you can get back at bitty’ ‘yes it’s important’ ‘yeah sure whatever’)

holster knows he’s jacked, he just has to make sure bitty knows it. he also knows that bitty is comfortable with holster standing pretty close to him now so he’s going to use that to his advantage since holster is also tall as Fuck. (obviously he doesn’t do anything creepy like stand right behind him or smth but like. if they’re talking. holster is gonna get just a little in bitty’s space just so bitty has to look up at him a little. is this partially because bitty has really nice eyelashes? yeah)

basically what i’m saying is once holster decides to get back at bitty all hell breaks loose. literally nobody else in the haus can deal with the sexual tension when they’re in the same room. bitty is now pretty sure that holster is into him. shitty texts bitty saying ‘can you please bone for the love of god’. for good measure shitty also texts holster saying the same thing. he’s so tired but also this is hilarious

like it gets EXTRA. bitty and holster can both bend and snap and they DO. holster intentionally spills water on his t-shirt to make it cling more. when he sits at the kitchen table doing work bitty comes by and leans over his shoulder to see what he’s doing and if he brushes holster’s neck a little as he does it, well, that’s between them. at one point holster and bitty are both standing at the counter washing dishes and holster starts chirping bitty about not being able to reach the top shelf and asks if he wants to stand on a chair and bitty’s like hmm or you could just carry me. and holster almost has a conniption and it gets even worse when they finish washing up and bitty’s like oh great the counter’s all cleared off! and hops up and sits on it and that gets his face a little closer, vertically, to holster, who is suddenly aware that bitty is wearing very short shorts AGAIN, which like, seem to have become his uniform, and that when bitty sits like that holster can barely see those shorts, that’s how tiny they are, and it looks like bitty’s just sitting there in a shirt and nothing else and holster’s brain supplies a LOT of images once he thinks of that and hoo boy.

and holster’s like how can i get back at him. and bitty’s sitting right next to the hanging cabinets so holster grabs some of the plates from the drying rack that look dry enough and goes and stands *right* in front of bitty. like he’s not actually brushing bitty’s legs where they dangle off the counter but if he stepped forward like. half an inch. he would be. and they make eye contact for a second and then, without moving, holster starts putting plates away.

and bitty is like oh my fucking god WHAT else do i have to do (he doesn’t say this out loud) and then when holster’s done putting away the plates and it looks like he’s going to go grab more bitty just. wraps his legs around holster’s waist and pulls him in (and holster is like holy FUCK because he knew bitty’s legs were strong but not THAT STRONG HOLY SHIT) and at this point there’s really nothing else for them to do but make out at the kitchen counter and that’s what they do. (bitty does, in fact, climb that man like a tree)

okay so some actual headcanons lol. you thought you knew bitty was a clothes stealing fiend?? you were wrong. he absolutely is but you just didn’t know how much. does holster still have literally any of his sweatshirts? probably not honestly

the only way bitty will sit on the green couch will be if holster is sitting on the green couch and bitty is sitting in his lap because that way he can avoid any actual contact with the couch

when bitty makes anything with blueberries in it holster steals some but he also feeds bitty some because he’s mushy like that

they continue to go to extreme lengths to try and get each other flustered in public. shitty is so tired.

they share playlists constantly and even more of bitty’s favorites find their way onto the kegster playlist

when bitty moves into the haus holster is in his room c o n s t a n t l y. he just likes the space ok??? there’s lil reminders of bitty everywhere and of course if bitty is there too then that’s just the BEST

Got tagged by @doedipus into this fill out game! 1. Do you like answering tags?

I actually do like it! ...I just forget them in my drafts 9 times on 10. And when I actually do them, I end up thinking out too much about them and feel somewhat self-conscious about writing much more than others I see around?

2. Do you prefer to write fanfiction, read fanfiction, create fanart, make video edits, or none of the above?

It feels like cheating to have ‘read fanfiction’ when it’s the only one that doesn’t need to actively create something, haha. I consume somewhat less fanfiction nowadays compared to original content, but whenever I get into a new thing I tend to go on an huge reading spree. I’m definitely more at ease with writing out of the remaining three, though. Does it still counts if I collect WIPs I never go back to? I feel like it should count.

3. Nails painted (include what color) or not?

Eh, it’s pretty but not for me. I get easily distracted whenever I notice my nails are too long/cut weirdly/have those little bits protruding, so I feel like having the paint coming off would bother me too much. Plus, I get my hands in dough pretty much every week, and I don’t want to bother with gloves.

4. Would you prefer to live in an extremely hot or cold climate?

Some years ago I would have said ‘hot’, but the more time flies and the more I feel like I handle cold better? ...I’m still somewhat self-conscious about my weight, and the corona weight-taking didn’t help, so having lot of layers and huge sweaters feel comforting. Being able to have multiple blankets also make sleeping easier.

5. Favorite flavor of chapstick or do you not wear any? I don’t wear any, because I'm too forgetful and the few sticks I bought quickly disappeared into the same void portal that likes to eat my wandering hair ties.

6. Enemies to lovers or friends to lovers?

Oh, totally friends to lovers. The way I tend to imagine love is pretty platonic in the first place.

7. Favorite crack ship (any fandom)?

I... tend to go towards rarepairs rather than crack ships. But. If I ever go back to writing for assassination classroom, I really need to show everyone why Hiromi/Azusa works. Look, I’m just a weak lesbian and there are only four adult women with more than one line in this manga, and one of them is already dead by the time the story starts. What am I supposed to do.

8. Favorite type of weather?

Gentle rain without wind. It’s a weather that makes it easy to go on walks, as people usually aren’t out in the rain, but it’s easy enough to not get wet with just an umbrella.

9. Do you use :), :], or :D?

Only for a few, sometimes in the tags. Discord keep modifying :) and the like to emoticons, so I tend to write (: instead, but I’m more partial to :3 and (8 anyways.

I haven’t been around on tumblr much those past weeks, so I’m not sure who’s around? @bunnymint, @do-you-know-worldwide-handsome?

this is probably silly but i’m feeling all giddy about this new-found confidence i have in writing that i got from first reading my own fics from a few years back and genuinely enjoying it a lot, which was a big surprise to me since i have been avoiding reading anything i’ve written myself because i’ve been too embarrassed to see how bad it is and, well yes it’s not perfect and some of it is probably even objectively bad writing, but the experience of reading it also wasn’t an embarrassment, and a couple of my old oneshots were even like.... they filled my heart with genuine happiness to read stories of my own OTP since i had forgotten about the details of the stories already because i never went back to take a look at them after posting them years ago hahaha. and then secondly from challenging myself to complete an NSFW fic and posting it, which is something i’ve been too scared to do for the longest time, and now that i did it, it doesn’t feel like such a big deal actually and i’m oddly proud about it even though it’s. well. it’s the way it is. i’ve been reading a lot of other people’s fics recently as well and it’s made me feel more comfortable and also happy feeling like i’m part of this huge system with my writing, even if i mainly just do a rarepair in a niche fandom, but there are many other people writing their rarepairs in their niche fandoms that i personally have never heard of. so that’s a thing and it makes me happy. (and also reading other people’s absolutely foul porn of their interests. i mean foul regarding the subjects because some of the writing was really beautiful. it’s a weirdly wholesome thing when you get past the initial embarassment of it being porn.)

writing has been a very on-off hobby for me, but now i’m hoping that this year’s positive experiences can make it something i work on on a weekly basis even while i’m studying at the same time. i have so many ideas for 4kingdoms and new oneshots, and i know i need to get back to the heart that i love soon too haha.

Hi! I assume this is for the end of year fic writer ask meme! Because despite the fact that I’ve posted almost nothing in months, I did in fact write a boatload of fic this year!

3) Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?

That’s kind of a hard one. I write a lot of different kinds of fics (lot of fluff, lot of hurt/comfort, etc.) so I’m not sure what counts as “usual.” I think the winner here might be rose and hawthorn, take no hold (that’s right! I wrote an Interview With a Vampire fic!). It’s first person, which I never do, and the language is a lot more flowery than I usually write. It also very much encourages the toxic relationship read, which I usually avoid, but I actually do like the story. It’s short and a little smutty though, which is 100% me XD

5) Which of your fics do you wish was more sucessful?

Considering I spent this year writing mostly rarepair datasha...all of those? I love writing that pairing, and I do wish they got more attention (although I get why they don’t). In particular, I think I wish easy touch, I bend for you got more attention. It’s a getting-together fake-dating mission fic where Tasha realizes she likes Data and wants to sub for him (although its not smutty at all). I love the costume descriptions I put in (seriously, I want to see every single one of them drawn) and when I was writing it the fic just felt so sweet and vulnerable to me and a way that was really fun to explore with a character as tough as Tasha.

7) What’s your favorite piece of description or narration?

There are so many, honestly, and if I get this one again I’d probably answer with a different one each time. Aside from aforementioned costume design, which was so much fun to lovingly lay out, one that springs instantly to mind is from oh, when you love it, which is one of two, in my opinion, really cute eldritch horror!Tasha fics I wrote (this one is the sexy one). There’s a line:

There was too much tongue in her mouth, or maybe not enough throat for her tongue. Either way, she solved the problem by licking past Data’s lips, tangling her tongue with his. He sucked on it expertly, and made a sound of pleasure when she coiled it farther down his throat, past where a human would have a gag reflex.

I’m not sure what it is about this particular description that gets me (maybe the weird body proportions, maybe the domination/ownership Tasha has over a willing Data, who knows), but I really loved writing this line, as well as all the descriptions of eldritch!Tasha. It’s probably one of the weirder sex scenes I’ve written (I say, as a carfucker-crackfic writer XD) but I do recommend it, because I think it falls under “weirdly hot” and also “weirdly sweet” at the same time.

I saw your post about rarepairs and was wondering if I could get a few headcanons or a scenario for Giran x Chisaki? I think it has some potential, and I've only seen one (kinda non-con?) thing for it on Ao3 so far. your choice of SFW, NSFW, or both. if you're comfortable with it, that is, feel free to ignore if not.

I’m gonna have to disappoint you, but I don’t really like to write Chisaki with anyone outside of the Yakuza. This extends to other a bit more popular ships with him like Dabuhaul and ChiShig (I’ve also seen Overhawks but idk how popular it is now) I’ve never really like the appeal of it and, as you mentioned it in your ask, stuff like that usually goes into the non-con territory and I don’t really like it. And I also weirdly don’t like to mash the villain groups together in any way, not sure why but it’s just been like that.

And to other people, just please keep these ships in mind because I won’t write about them.

OKAY HERE WE GO (edit: this got long NOBODY is obligated to read all of this)

1. Favorite place to write.

so i actually don’t get out much firstly because i am kind of a homebody and secondly because where i live there’s not really many places to go…we don’t have starbucks, we don’t have cafes or coffee shops in general, and the few we do have would be weird to just HANG OUT in unless i go to the local college campus and i’d never pass a student LOL so mostly what i do is just write at home. which is fine! my favorite place to write IS at home on my computer bc it’s where i can be most comfortable. i have written in different places (especially when i travel to visit buddies - i have written in a starbucks in dc, a parking garage in dc, the ferry that goes past the statue of liberty, a mall food court in sanfan…i have also written fanfiction on my phone while over at my grandparents place or on the computer in the high school library LOL) but when i’m in public 1. i can’t relax and so have a harder time getting into my zone 2. unless i have earbuds i cannot utilize MUSIC which is simply crucial to my Process™

2. Favorite part of writing.

this is a close tie between outlining and actually rough drafting. i do not and never will understand why all writer culture jokes are about writers not actually writing because i love to write?? writing is the best part of writing? when i really get going and knock out like 2k or 3k in a day that’s the best feeling in the world. i LIVE for that feeling. however i also REALLY enjoy outlining because it’s sort of like rough drafting without the extra work (i can just block things out w/o worrying about making them look pretty) and also the outlining process is where i run into and then solve most (not all, unfortunately…) of my plotholes. there is nothing in the world like trying to untangle a plot problem for hours or even days and then suddenly coming up with the PERFECT solution. that is a GOOD feeling.

3. Least favorite part of writing.

editing/rewriting can go straight to hell THANKS! i already wrote this once! i don’t want to do it again! i had to pause work on the current thing i am doing to go back and clean up a subplot that was finally coming to a head and it took me THREE WEEKS because thats how unenthusiastic i am about editing. i can never decide what needs cutting, it’s tedious to decide where to jump in and start rewriting new stuff, it’s too much work and to depressing to have to scrap a whole scene and start from scratch…i have a real problem killing my darlings (just ask @callowyn, who has been co-writing @cambionverse with me for nearly a DECADE - she knows the struggle). it makes editing hell

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

yes!! i have 3, a small one and 2 big ones.

small one is: i like to turn pomodoro on and have some sort of snack/beverage/gum nearby. this is to minimize distractions, firstly because if pomodoro is on i have to use my phone to access the internet which is not my preferred method and secondly because if i get momentarily bored i can stimulate my brain with like a sip of coke or a cheez-it or something and that will satisfy the momentary urge to get up and walk away a lot faster than picking up my phone to scroll social media will. then i can go back to work and not lose my momentum!

big rituals are FIRSTLY is that i always always ALWAYS have to block out a scene before i start. i talked about this on this blog before so i won’t repeat myself but the gist of this is that i basically write the entire scene in the ugliest shorthand possible and then “edit” it just like that - delete/add lines of conversation, switch things around, remove off-topic threads, etc. it’s easier to see “zoomed out” like this, more malleable, and i’m not attached to any pretty sentences or turns of phrase. it’s also EXTREMELY fast because once i get to actually drafting it i know exactly what i’m doing, i’m basically just transcribing my notes! i have written almost 7k in a single day with this method. i can absolutely fly

adn finally the most important ritual of all is that i have to be listening to music. there are some albums/songs i can listen to to write anything (mostly soundtracks) and that’s “writing music” but more often than not i pair a specific song or handful of songs with a specific scene, something that matches the “feel” of what i’m working on. if i’m really getting into it i might even go and play some ambient noise (like rain sounds during a rainy scene). this is actually especially helpful at triggering hyperfixation to get from feeling kind of “bleh” about something to absolutely enthralled with it. (edit: for especially long stories i MAKE PLAYLISTS i can tell you exactly which of these songs corresponds to which scene in my current project and i will never be able to disassociate the scenes from the songs so long as i live)

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.

actually i think most of my story ideas are a little on the cliche/predictable/tropey side bc that’s what i enjoy consuming. but i DO get weirdly obsessed with like, the most unimportant background characters or very off-the-wall rarepairs and then devolve straight into OC territory. and then when i was younger i would actually write fanfiction of my own fanfiction - so my first fanfic ever was a novelization of ocarina of time, and then when i was finished with that i actually went back and wrote stories about link’s parents before they died. i had a name and a backstory for that little deku kid (the butler’s son) in majora’s mask. ganondorf and nabooru had a daughter who featured as a main character. it was wild. i becomes absolutely obsessed with minute details and the longer i spend in a fictional world the more i branch out into utterly irrelevant shit. that said i think the WEIRDEST idea i ever wound up writing to fruition was a teen wolf fic that feature my teen wolf rarepair (which i don’t talk about on this blog BC I TRY TO KEEP IT SFW HERE but like…it’s on ao3 LOL) and in the sequel to that fic i spent about half the screentime talking about the death of an OC in one pf the characters’ pasts. ask me before i started and i would have said that sounds like the most boring shit in the world but i wrote almost 100k in that verse in 3 fics and i think it’s one of the better stories i’ve ever worked on solo.
