The Buyuk Camlica Masjid, opened earlier this year, is the largest mosque in Turkey and a structure which dominates the skyline of the Asian half of the transcontinental city of Istanbul. Often derided as a vanity project, the mosque is a monument not only to the Erdogan/AK Parti era of modern Turkish history, but also to the centuries long Turkish contribution to Islam. Although it pales in comparison to the masterpiece of Mimar Sinan - the Suleymaniye Mosque with its stunning views of the Bosporus and Golden Horn, the Camlica mosque symbolises a nation at peace with its past and with its eyes firmly set on the future. It stands tall and bright on the eastern horizon, visible from any elevated position in western Istanbul, drawing the gaze eastward - surely there is symbolism in this - face away from the west if you seek success, prosperity, national dignity and the preservation of faith and tradition.
At the highest summit in Istanbul, the year 2013 began the construction of the Camlica mosque, specifically in the Uskudar region known for its luxurious real estate, luxurious construction and offers for buying property in Istanbul, which made it among the first areas to witness the purchase of a property in Istanbul by foreigners recently.
I remember when I was at Büyük çamlıca tepesi years ago. It was still just social club, now look at it.
