Boo was content looking out for birdies hanging around the camp site. He is our camping buddy with a big heart, literally. Boo enjoyed himself out in nature exploring the site. He even went for a little walk around the campground. Sniffing the different scents nature has to offer; not to mention the campfires from our few camping neighbors. His little nose would go up in the air.

I know a lot of people claim to have the best cat in the world, but I really think I got something special with this one. -- On January 3rd this year, I was pretty depressed. I frequented the local animal shelter to spend time with the animals, and on this specific day they had received a bunch of feral cats from around the county. I happened to ask one of the volunteers what their policies were in regards to euthanization. She told me they euthanized most of their feral cats, except for kittens younger than 4 months. -- That's when I saw Tuna huddled in the back of one of their holding bins. She was tiny and very thin but her crystal blue eyes shined through the darkness of the kennel. At five months old, she had just missed the cut off for adoption. I immediately asked if she was at risk, and was informed she would likely be put down within that week. I asked if I could visit with her and had her purring in my lap in a matter of minutes. I fell in love. -- She took a while to adjust to the domesticated life. She didn't eat anything I put in front of her, and after about a week I tried to feed her raw ahi from the local sushi place and she loved it. From that I was able to move her to wet tuna cat food, and then dry, and then she started eating totally normally. -- She slept cuddled up by my face every night, and has ever since. It was like she knew she had been rescued, she remembered her life before. But about a month passed and I had never heard her make a noise, not one meow. That's when I thought, maybe she misses the outside. The day I took her on her first walk was the first time I ever heard her meow. She was confused by the leash but was so happy to be outside again. That's where it all started. -- Tuna has been on countless road trips across the Rockies, dozens of hikes with me, and now her first camping trip. And while her wild instincts are definitely still intact, she has adapted better than anyone could have ever expected. She's a true canyon cat, adventure buddy, and cuddle companion. I'm so lucky to have her, and I think she rescued me more than I rescued her. -- The point of all of this is, I have never been a cat person and was always afraid I would get an ass hole cat. But Tuna craves my love and attention than any animal ever has before. She was almost put down out of the fear she would never attach to a human. Cats and dogs just like her face this fate all over the country. -- So next time you're in the market for an animal, please think of her story and consider adopting first. Not only are there tons of kittens and puppies coming through the shelter system, there are also plenty of amazing older animals as well that want to come home with you more than anything. Adopt, don't shop. Save a life before you purchase one. You really never know, you might be the one that ends up getting rescued. 🐱❤
