#cardiac alert dog

Today I got an echo cardiogram and a heart monitor placed. If my horrible cardiologist did anything she at least did this for me. Molly was such a good girl for the whole procedure! She laid quietly the whole time, only moving to alert or when instructed to help me sit up from the bed.
I did get approval for her to be on the bed with me during the test, as I have a hard time sitting up and need assistance with almost any position changes. The tech said as long as she didn't get in the way, it would be fine, and Molly's a great dog and stayed completely out of the way.
I also brought 2 of my stuffed dogs with me, the golden retriever was a gift from my Pgf, kiki, and comforted me so much, especially when they put my IV in.
Overall the appointment went great an I was so impressed with Molly!

Hi guys I hate to do this but don't have any other options, I would really appreciate any donations.
This is my service dog, Æris.
Tumblr media
I was informed that I had come up on the wait list to receive him with 3 weeks to pick him up (I applied over a year ago and had lost hope I would ever get one). During this time I was barely able to pull together the $ to bring him home (800 out of the 2,500 I have to pay before he is 1yr). Currently I have been suffering an extended flare up due to my health and am unable to work. I am struggling to make rent. I have borrowed $$ to get him the necessities but it is causing me a great deal of stress, which in turn, is making my health worse. Please donate if you can, every cent counts, he will help me immensely and ultimately allow me to have a lot more independence.
My goal is $650, my P** pal is: jadeamxranthine
if you can't donate please reblog.

To the guy who spent 15 minutes criticizing my rate of reinforcement while Mandana & I waited in line at the post office…
I barely slept at all last night and have had a piercing earache for two days. My service dog was a bit more distracted than usual on our short trip to the post office. Instead of taking my frustration out on her and demanding her attention, I spent a few minutes outside connecting with her and increased my rate of reinforcement when we went inside.
All you saw was a girl giving her dog treats. You couldn’t see how flawless she was performing. You couldn’t see how she stayed close and engaged with me. How she held the positions I asked without a second thought. How she offered good public access behaviors like tucking out of the way and ignoring the jack ass staring at her. How she performed her medical alerts consistently despite having a stranger hovering around and interjecting himself into a situation he had no business being a part of.
You ended your one-sided conversation by saying you wish you could get BonBons for doing nothing. Sir. That is entirely the point. While you’re grumbling about a service dog getting too many treats, she is by my side making sure I catch her medical alerts. If that doesn’t deserve a treat I don’t know what does.

idk. part of the appeal of naming a very large dog your dead name is that if someone uses it, a beast will be upon them. But I could also just use my dead name as a "instantly get a treat right away" cue to up the consequences for dead naming me.
unfortunately my dead name is a noun. and a commonish one at that. This will cause problems for strangers just like. having conversations on the street. but consider this : thats not my problem.

Hey y’all.
I’m currently trying to save up for a service dog. Unfortunately, it is hard to save up when my rent will be increasing, I have a car payment, phone bills, utilities, and student loan payments.
I hate asking for help, but my mobility and my heart rate is getting too out of control and making it hard for me to do basic life tasks. I’m in so much pain every day that I struggle to even just walk and then I have balance issues with my POTS, so there are days where I just cannot get around. Also, it’s allergy season which triggers my asthma, and coughing fits cause me to get dizzy and almost pass out. This same thing happens when the weather is colder.
I’m going to need about $2000 to get the breed that I want that has gone through health testing and proper breeding. That doesn’t include the classes I’ll need to take for obedience and for the service dog training.
If you or if you know anyone who would like to help me, here are two ways to donate:
Cashapp: $Semistablek
Venmo: church-k
Ignore my birth name on both apps.
I’m also planning on working on and selling duct tape roses if you would like to support me that way. I can do any color that duct tape comes in. Whether it’s your favorite color, colors based off a character, or whatever.
I’d probably price them like this:
1 rose: $5 each plus shipping.
Bouquet (6 roses): $25 each plus shipping.
I can also make other things. If there is something else you would like, let me know. I’ve done wallets, tablet pouches, and other types of things.
Reach out to me if you would like to help out and want a commission or if you have any questions. Please don’t feel obligated to help, but I am just wanting to be able to do this for myself to help be able to get around during the day.

There's this weird thing I've seen about service dogs where people with like... minor conditions will be like "ohhhhh I wonder if that person's cardiac alert dog will alert to my slightly too fast heart beat!"
And it just kinda rubs me the wrong way. That's someone else's medical equipment. This isn't like trying on your buddy's glasses in 3rd grade and going "woah you're blind hahaha!" Get your own service dog if you want one to alert to you.

Hey, I don't usually make posts like this because I don't like begging for money from people, but a friend of mine really needs help right now.
Her cardiac alert service dog ate something it shouldn't have, and needs emergency surgery that she cannot afford.
Anything you can give would be lovely, but if you can't donate then a reblog would be appreciated!

Went to urgent care yesterday because I felt like shit. I've had a sore throat for 3 weeks now, started to have drainage in my throat, loosing my voice and had a cough and well..
I have a cold. A cold that feels like hell since my immune system can't handle shit. Oh what I would do to have a cold that I can "push through"
On the bright side the nurse gave me a stuffed animal, and Molly did amazing. I wrote this post not only to complain but to show off Molly's new pnl vest that I'm absolutely in love with!

Mr Evershed x Student!reader - step by step
Tumblr media
Hello, what if a student visits the school with an assistance dog. An assistance dog, because it has an illness, for example. EvershedxStudent!Reader would be great if you can please write about a dog who is allowed to follow into the school. - Anon 💜
Standing in the headteachers office, you had one hand on your dogs harness as he sat there patiently waiting.
“I’m sorry (Y/N), but this school has a strict no animals rule.”
“Did they not tell you when you got this job sir?” You asked confused.
“Excuse me?”
Laughing a little, you walked over and sat down in a chair, letting go of the harness you turned to the dog.
“Loki lay down.”
The dog did as you sat and looked up at you before resting his head on your foot at you turned back to your head teacher.
“He’s a medical alert dog sir, or a service dog either one works he’s classified as both. I have a cardiac problem, Loki alerts to this as it caused a lot of issues.”
“Cardiac problem?”
You sighed a little and slumped down in your chair, grabbing you bag you pulled out your timetable and handed it over to him.
“cardiomyopathy.”
“There’s nothing in your notes about this (Y/N).”
“Well my mum told the trust, so that’s not my issue.”
He looked at you then looked at your timetable and he held up his hand, picking up his phone.
You had to sit there and listen to him talk to your mum in the phone, explaining how he’d recently become the headteacher and he just wanted confirmation.
They spoke for a few moments before he ended the call and turned his attention back to you.
“Is there anything you could tell me? I just want to know as much as possible so I know how to help if needed.”
“Gladly, I’ll explain whatever you need me to.”
This started a long conversation between the pair of you, Mr Evershed asking you questions relating to your condition.
You sneered everything, giving him all the information he asked for.
It was a long conversation and you noticed Loki tapping your leg repeatedly with his nose and you looked down.
“Uhm… yeah can we put pause on this?”
You got up and laid carefully on the floor while Loki put himself on your chest and you placed your hand on his back, running your fingers through his fur as you waited for what was coming.
“(Y/N) are you okay?” Mr Evershed asked worried.
He walked over and crouched next to you and you turned to him.
“Usually I wake up after a few minutes, if I don’t wake up after five you need to call an ambulance and my mum. Everything you need is in my bag, and some papers in Loki’s vest.”
“You’re going to faint?”
You nodded and he took his blazer off, folding it he placed it under your head and sat down, his phone on the floor next to him waiting to start the timer.
He watched you try to fight passing out, and eventually you did, and he quickly started the timer.
He didn’t feel right just watching, so he gently took your hand and pressed his fingers to your wrist, feeling for your heartbeat just to put his mind at ease.
He flicked his eyes to see a few minutes had past and before he got ready to call an ambulance you started to stir.
“Hey, are you alright? Do you need anything?”
You shook your head weakly, running your hand over Loki’s fur as he wagged his tail happily.
You stared up at the ceiling, and you slowly sat up with the help of Mr Evershed.
He kept his hand on your back and looked at you.
“Can you stand?”
“I.. I Uhm think so.”
You carefully stood up, and he stayed close by to make sure you were okay and walked you over to the chair so you could sit down.
He put his blazer back in and sat down.
“We’ll have to fill in some papers to put this in your file to make it official, is that okay?”
“Yeah, yeah sure.”
He smiled and you guys got to work.
The trust loved throwing obstacles at not just the school and it’s teachers, but it’s students as well.
After seeing first hand what happens on account for your condition he knew you needed to keep your dog loki by your side.
So he was going to make sure there was absolutely no way for them to stop this, and he was going to put all the information, links and contacts you could give him so if they did try anything, he could take it a step further.
You weren’t going to be failed by a corrupt system who only cared about getting money he was going to make sure of it

Cardiology appointment was a success!
Tumblr media
Big thanks to @doomspaniels for sharing their experience & knowledge with me. It really helped me put together a convincing presentation. My Cardiologist was happy to order an Echocardiogram + Bubble Study. Hopefully it will shed some light on why my blood oxygen has been dropping so much. He said if they don’t find a big enough hole to “justify” the low blood oxygen then he’ll send me to a lung specialist to see if it’s something else but fingers crossed we get some answers soon 🤞
Tumblr media
Mandana was awesome and she had a blast. She has really been enjoying these appointments. My only complaint was that she was whining a little during my apt when I was talking to the doctor. I can’t really blame her for that because I was ignoring her alerts and when my Cardiologist stopped to check my heart rate sure enough she was spot on!

How does a dog learn to alert for cardiac issues? How do they even know your heart rate is fucked? And then how do you train them to alert when they know?
Most cardiac alert dogs naturally started alerting and the behavior was rewarded until it could easily be reproduced. There's not really a good indicator on what exactly the dog is picking up on or whether it will alert for everyone or just their owner.

The sound of the tapwriter finally stopped after what seems like hours.
He look up at the clock. 1:00am. He had lost track of the time so easily.
He lean his back on the chair, scretching with an silent groan. His hand brushing against his face in a attempt to help him be just awake enough to get up and walk for his bedroom to have a proper night of sleep. Getting up from the chair,Milu shift a bit and lift his head up to look at his owner with a little sleepy face coming closer in weak steps.
"Sorry Milu,i overworked a bit."
Tintin bend down to give the dog a light caress soon getting up and walking out of his office.
His eyes were tired from writing too much, basically dragged his body across the living room floor to the bathroom so he could take a good shower and finally have the much-desired rest, but he heard something.
A scream.
Suddenly he was on the alert. His senses paid attention to everything with focus as adrenaline was released in his body causing him to act quickly running for the door and openning it.
The scream come from the door right in front of his,he knew the voice. The new neighbor who moved in four months ago. An real kind and somewhat chaotic young girl, the type who randomly start talking about some interesting butterfly fact just because she find out and really liked it,knowing too much regarding at odd things.
The ginger-haired boy notice an certain interest on her personality. For him it was funny and unpredictable, she aways find a way to surprise him, even helpped with a mistery by knowing things refering to an particular ancient tribe. Why? Neither him know, but was more than thankful for it,since then,Tintin said for her to ask anything to pay for the help, but in a kind way,she denied with an smile.
But now was the moment.
As soon he open it,he knocked on her door calling out your name. For not getting an fast response, mind racing by all of the possibilites, even more when almost everytime something happened with persons around him,he needed to act quick.
Banging one last time,he was ready to break in by hitting the door with his shoulder, but in a second thought,he turned the handle realizing that the door was open and quickly entered the apartament. Before calling out your name again,he looked at the couch seeing you sleeping there, still with eyes closed shifting and trembling.
He let a long and relieved sigh, thanking gods that you wasn't in a real danger and walked over you holding your arms carefully to make you stay still.
"[Name],wake up. It's just a nightmare..."
In a soft tone,he speak trying to not scary you even more,he shake you a bit. Moving around some more, your eyes suddenly snap open, your first and instintictive thought was cover your head and cring in place trying to protect yourself while shaking in fear.
Tintin just leave your arms, kneeled down in front of you.
"[Name]...?"
He call. His voice in an whisper, his moviments was careful seems like he was trying not scare away a little animal. You take your hands out of your head, sitting up on the couch, your eyes focused on the floor, vision blurry because of the little tears forming under your eyes, quivering like you didn't get hold on reality yet.
"[Name]..."
Two hands reach your face. Calmly and gently holding your cheeks lifting your head so you could finally meet his eyes. The feeling of his touch drag you back slowly as you vision become less blurry.
"[Name]...look at me ok? You're safe..it wasn't real,just a nightmare"
He's voice and expression kind as possible, hands still on your face moving up just enough for his thumbs wipe the tears. Your eyes focused on his own.
"Breath for me [Name],it's ok..."
You nod, taking deep breaths slowly feeling your heart beat coming back to normal. Your own hands going to hold his as you finally calm down after one of the worst nightmare you had in a long time.
"Better...?" - you nod again.
"Great. I'm very thankful you're ok"
When he was about to take his hand away, you hold him. In a little shaky and weak manner.
"...please...just..." - you hear an low 'shh'.
"As much you need...don't worry"
You let a long breath, less shaky after one or two minutes. Since then he didn't move his hands away just when you move it to hold above your thighs, being silent until you manage to speak again in a more steady voice.
"..thank you Mr Tintin i-"
"[Name],don't need to call me mister" - he chuckle quietly.
"Sorry,but...thank you...really mr-...Tintin"
He shake his head slightly getting up and sitting next to you on the couch still holding your hands keeping an kind smile on his face.
"Being honest,i'm the one grateful. When i hear your scream i thought you was in danger,i almost break in"
He chuckle again at his own words,a small smile appeared on your lips along with a short sigh.
"Good you didn't made it...Mrs Finch would freak out maybe.."
"Yes,i'm glad too"
Again,a brief silent between both of you. His presence was oddly enough to make you feel calm, his hand passing a good sensation of security. So much that the quiet atmosphere was comfortable, not awkaward, just good.
"The nightmare..." - he begin in a low tone.
"I..don't.."
"That's ok,don't talk if you don't want to" - you nodded.
You knew he eventually would leave,Tintin already helped so he didn't have to be there anymore but you was still afraid. Fearful to close your eyes and go back to the same nightmare, you knew it was a childish thought but inevitable, however you remembered something. When you helped him with his work on a mystery, the journalist insisted on repaying you in some way, but you refused. Who knew you would end up having to use his offer proposed before.
Squeezing his hand lightly, you caught his attention making him look at you who stared back with some shame in your eyes and a slight blush on the cheeks.
"Mr- i mean...Tintin..you..remember about your offer..? to pay for my help on that case you get..." - he nodded.
"can you...stay...?"
You probably sound like a kid asking for his parents to sleep with them, and it wasn't too much wrong but you couldn't deny the fear on your mind,he bring a good comfort and you just wanted it next to you,at least for now. But,the ginger-haired boy on your right side just looked kindly at you.
"Gladly"
You smiled, relieved and still a bit embarrassed, but soon, you come closer in a silent request to hug him motioning with your arms. He agreed with a head shake and you hugged him from his right side resting your head on Tintin's shoulder.
And he didn't move, only to return the hug with one arm settling a comfortable silent on the environment of your dark apartament at more than 1:37am. He was still tired since he overworked on his new article,so eventually, when you fall asleep he was right behind you sleeping with his head on top of yours enjoying your company as well finally getting his deserved rest with you in his arms and a little smile on the lips...
___________________________________________
A/N: i'm just here to thank you again for the request and i already started other ones, but i keep procrastinating and i hate it. I wanna write but my brain say no 😭. Maybe i write his personality better on this one??? I really hope so lol.

Coming back here to share some news. Photos are of my service dog, Annie, who is a scruffy goldish colored labrador retriever standard poodle mix. Photos relevant to possibly training her to assist with my newly diagnosed disability. Short version: After over a year of dealing with my (former) doctor ignoring my symptoms, acting like I was "worrying too much over nothing" and that my symptoms are "normal experiences that everyone has" I decided to switch providers, and boy am I glad that I did! At my first appointment with my new provider, I was actually listened to and they were able to do basic postural blood pressure and heart rate tests (with me laying down/sitting up/standing up), talk to me about my symptoms, and I left with a diagnosis of POTS. I was FINALLY listened to and I felt heard by a provider and his nurse for the first time ever during this entire struggle. He told me I was doing everything right to manage my symptoms by increasing sodium intake, and even gave me a few other management tips/ideas that weren't dietary related. I wouldn't be with this diagnosis if it hadn't been for one of my amazing friends who I was able to relate to telling me that my symptoms weren't normal and to switch providers. I'm not happy to have POTS, but I'm happy to finally be seen and heard by a provider who was able to offer an explanation for my symptoms, as well as other treatment/management options. I have been considering training my service dog for cardiac alert before the diagnosis, but I'm more motivated and validated to do it now that I have a diagnosis. She already knows deep pressure therapy for a different disability, and I've been using it to help manage my POTS symptoms even before the diagnosis anyways.
