Robots & Androids ‎AU plus Small Town AU
OKAY I AM FINALLY GETTING TO THESE I'M SORRY I'M SO BEHIND!!!
Okay. So.
Humanity kinda developed a LOT of health issues in the mid-late 23rd century. It was all a long time in coming, but it was a bit of a shocker still when people started breaking down. And there just wasn't enough people to keep up with the demand for new organs, tissue, blood, etc. The human race was basically failing. So, in a semi last ditch attempt to keep people alive, cyborg technology was put to work. Scientists had been messing around with the theory of it for years, since robots and androids were getting decently advanced. But they never had the support to actually try a clinical trial. Until now.
Some of it worked better than others. And it was HIGHLY controversial. Though maybe less than it should have been, considering the lengths the research team was permitted to go in order to get this stuff sorted out... Mainly that they were given legal permission to try it out on patients without their express consent, mostly in situations where the person was in a coma/on life support with no real hope of recovery.
Towards the end of her life, Rose was offered the chance to try getting a cybernetic lung transplant to replace the one that had been damaged beyond repair by her cancer. She refused, as it would be super risky and be more likely to kill her than help. She would rather die in her own whole body than risk losing her last few weeks with her family.
After she passed, the remaining Molinas moved out of the city, to a small town a few hours north, to escape the grief and the terrible air quality that had been a part of Rose's quick decline in health.
Unfortunately, they just happened to pick the exact tiny town that the government had picked to dump their cyborg... pet projects. The ones who hadn't actually consented to their surgeries but had ended up surviving. Best to keep everyone with those stories contained while they championed the cyborg advancements. Especially since there were plenty of side effects...
Julie meets a lot of odd people on her first day at the local high school. These include a dude that never lowers the hood of his pink hoodie, a bassist in a leather jacket who never seems to stop smiling, a skater with a rather odd limp, and a boy with shaggy hair who never seems to hear what people say to him, always grooving along to some music no one else can hear. There's also a few other adult oddballs around, but I don't got the energy to write all those out.
Under the cut, it gets a little more specific about injuries and alterations to specific characters, so read at your own risk!
Turns out that all four of those odd boys are unwilling cyborgs who were a part of some of the first rounds of tests. Hey, they were all gonna die anyways, the government decided they might as well use them.
Willie was in a nasty car crash that smashed both legs and a few ribs. He has pretty good prosthetics now, but they don't always function properly. And if he keeps his hair long to cover the incision scar on the back of his neck, that's no one's business except his own.
Luke, Alex, and Reggie all nearly died of food poisoning back in LA, but due to a combination of slightly different reactions to the battery acid/food poisoning and scientists wanting to test out different tech, they all have different issues now.
Luke got some synthetic tissue repair on his organs and around his throat. But there was also some damage to his airways cause of throwing up so much, so there's some wiring stuff in there so he can still sort of smell... however that got a bit mixed around and so his hearing is pretty weak and the music he has stuck in his head tends to sound like it's coming from outside to him.
Reggie mostly got away without any organ damage, but his face got kinda messed up. Now he looks pretty normal, except his jaw and lips can't move a lot. So he's stuck with a permanent semi-smile. It's not creepy usually, just kinda sad. He tries to stay upbeat to match his face.
Alex got the worst damage to his digestive system. The connections between his organs and brain are mostly man made now, whether that's wires for neurotransmitting or fake tissue on the lining of his stomach. However, when the scientists realized they had someone with a diagnosed anxiety disorder, they... well they might as well try, since he's probably dead anyways. So there's also a metal panel on the back of his head. It didn't work, and the hair won't grow back around it. Hence the hood.
Somehow they all become friends and help each other kinda come to terms with their lives. And also play lots of music. Though the shadow of the head researcher, Dr. Covington, looms over them all... OKAY that's what I got for tonight! More thoughts may come later, but that's my rough idea! I hope you enjoyed!!!

Oooh, JatP + your favourite anime au?
All right, I'm throing all of this under a cut.
If you have not watched Steins;Gate I would reccomend watching that before reading these. I don't know how spoilery they'll be. Though I tried to stick to the first few episodes.
-Reggie Peters, and his childhood friend Julie Molina go to a small seminar regarding time travel. He causes a bit of a disturbance and is pulled out by Flynn Taylor, renowned neuroscientist who graduated university while still a teenager.
-Reggie later discovers a murdered Flynn, and texts Bobby about. Only to wind up in an alternate timeline where said murder did not take place.
-Reggie, Bobby, and Flynn are part of Future Gadget labs, which Flynn reluctantly becomes a member of after more of the timeline jumping comes to light.
-Carrie Wilson starts working at the electronics store downstairs from Future Gadget Labs, she's generally friendly but she has some unknown grudge towards Flynn.
-Ray owns the electronics store and technically also owns the apartment Future Gadget Labs rents out. He's renting it to Reggie and a Bobby as a favor.
-Alex works at the electronics store, and he tends to get a little grumpy about the nonsense Reggie gets up to.
-Luke works at his families shop, and Reggie regularly visits.
-Julie works at a local theme cafe run by Willie
-Caleb suspiciously starts following Reggie around after the Timeline jumping incident.

Okay you have written so much that I had to go to your ao3 and I was like "aw the reggie birthday fic (birthday boy blues)" and then i reread it and it's just as sweet and melancholy so for that one: 1, 3, 4, 5?
Birthday Boy Blues
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
Well this fic was for @innytoes and I know what she likes; sad boy Reggie, best dad Ray, make Reggie a Molina 2kalways, and a happy ending. I wrote it kind of last minute, but once the idea took hold, that was it!
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
Three way toss up between Reggie's conflicting feelings over being called carino by Julie,
Reggie waved as Julie rushed off, valiantly trying to ignore the flush on his cheeks whenever she used a sweet Spanish nickname for him. He had no clue what it meant, because he had slept through more of high school Spanish than not. But he figured Julie wouldn't call him something mean so it had to be sweet. Which made it all the harder to ignore how his heart ached when she used it.
Ray congratulating himself on being a good actor after Reggie sad boys to him thinking he's invisible,
Ray looked up from his computer, priding himself on being a good actor, and Reggie's inability to know when he was actually invisible or not. Because now he knew just what to do for Reggie's present.
and Ray insinuating to Julie that she should make Reg a Molina in another way.
"But… if you want to be a part of this family, my family, you know I would love that. In whatever way possible.” He shot a look at Julie at that, and she blushed, but Reggie couldn’t really question that.
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Two way tie between Julie's speech about their love making the guys less ghostly
“You guys are not typical ghosts though. You can be seen and touched by some people, who’s to say that won’t change in the next few weeks? I have no idea how our love for each other did what it did, but I think…” Julie stopped, then took a breath in. “I know that the more I love you, the more… unghost like you become.”
and the ending line about Reggie not needing to make a wish cause he has everything he could ever wish for, definitely.
Reggie just let himself be tugged further into their embrace, and said with the biggest smile. “I didn’t make one. I have everything I could ever wish for right here.”
5: What part was hardest to write?
Emotionally? Reggie's whole speech to Ray about why he dreaded turning 18, and his whole feelings about that.
Overall? Just starting it because I had the idea but no clue how to get it down until I started it. Then it kind of just... flowed?

OKAY PART TWO
i think then julie leaves?? WAIT SHE KICKS THEM OUT THEN LEAVES YEAH and goes back to her room? then she thinks bout texting flynn "what would you say if there were theee ghosts living in my moms old studio" before deleting it saying she would think she's insane
that might've been earlier sorry i don't remember-
then the molinas are having dinner, with a place set for rose. carlos says thank you for the meal, and they start eating before they hear tia coming so they quickly remove roses dinner place to hide it from her. tia comes in and says "oh spaghetti, again. well i brought a casserole for you i cant let you have leftovers every night but you can just have it tomorrow" julie says thank you to tia, who then walks over to julie saying "aw look at this see it's getting better, just gotta rip off that bandaid" referring to roses empty table place. ray says julie has been cleaning out roses studio, but then the boys show up through a wall shocking julie so she screams shocking her family to which she responds "that's me aha ripping off that bandaid....ahhh" she whispers "you shouldn't be here" which tia takes towards herself saying she's only trying to help.
julie responds saying she should be at pilates, which tia says she "just wanted to be here for them, and now that you're (julie) out of the music program you can focus on classes that really matter" after no one responds she asks ray "you got the email from the school didn't you?" to which he says "yeah, we're still discussing it" then tia says something else and leaves
carlos asks julie if she wants to hear about sports but ray catches him saying "you're a good brother but that's not gonna work" causing carlos to leave so ray and julie are alone. ray then asks julie "so, why didn't you tell me" and she says "i was going to after dinner, really" and he says like "well you still like music don't you" and she says "i don't know, maybe?"
music begins playing from roses studio (the garage) and julie startled says she must've left the stereo on and goes to turn it off
she finds the boys in the garage playing with their instruments. she angrily stomps in front of them yelling to get them to stop playing. once they stop she says her family could here them, and the boys are excited that people can still here them even though they are ghosts. ray walks in saying he was just checking in on her, says what she was playing was pretty good. luke days "hey he likes our stuff, we're sunset curve" then reggie's iconic "tell your friends!" julie whispers "shut upp!" between her teeth and ray says hey i'll just trying help and make sure you're okay"
he sees the instruments and goes "heyy are these the old junk that was in the loft? we could maybe sell these, make a couple bucks" he touches them and alex says to stop touching his drums but bc they're ghosts ray cannot hear them
smth happens? ray leaves and julie says to the guys they can't play when she's not there, starts to leave outside the garage the guys show up, luke says they found a cool song her mom wrote, julie tells them her mom passed away, they apologize that they didn't know. they talk more, the boys have nowhere to go, julie says they can stay there for now. julie goes inside to bed
the next day julie goes out to the garage and finds the song her mom wrote on the piano, she spread it out sits down and starts playing it. ray, walking outside the garage hears her playing and singing; as well as carlos on the porch. by the end of the song the boys are standing behind julie without her knowledge. they poof out instead of trying to talk to her bc alex knew she needs space.
i just realized i accidentally went into the second episode here but im gonna leave it anyway
the boys talk about how amazing she was and wonder why she lied about playing piano. like thinks about asking her to join the band but then flynn walks past then crying. reggie - "was she crying too??" luke - "yes!! and nothings more scary than one girl crying than TWO girls crying!"
cuts tk flynn w julie next to the piano, flynn - "i've been up all night thinking about what i was gonna say and i might've drunken seven sodas to stay awake but i need to say this" julie - "flynn wait-" flynn "no. it's my turn to talk. you CANT give up on music, if you have up music that would be a curse on the world!! my life will be SO sad" etc smth along those lines then julie - "can i talk now?" flynn nods "i played the piano and sang for the first time this morning" flynn - "WHY DIDNT UOU SAY SO THATS AMAZING" julie - "your seven sodas kept interrupting /lh" flynn - "WE HAVE TI TELL MS HARRISON SO MH LIFE WONT BE THE SAD PICTUR EI JUST PAINTED FOR YOU" julie laughs a lil, flynn - "what made you play again?" julie - "i found this song my mom wrote for me" they leave~

she/they bi trans butch lesbian nick
bc. nick dresses like a butch lesbian
pins: x x x / ritual 6 / ID in alt text
some hcs:
nick is very much the sort of "i am a woman because i'm a lesbian" sort of gender
not nonbinary, just likes she/they pronouns
she's out to her family, and to her girlfriend (and her girlfriend's dad) and that's it. coming out is hard. it means people asking questions and changing perceptions and losing friends. there's also just, like, so many steps. there's too many things you need to do. hell. hell. what if they just didn't -> it also might mean getting switched to the girls' lacrosse team, and like, nick is all for trans inclusivity in sports, but like, these are her guys. and also the team she knows how to work with. really, they ought to make it co-ed
nick is the handsomest butch princess at the princess dance party <3 -> alternatively, nick attending a short-notice princess dance party in her normal clothes + a pink feather boa and plastic tiara for that nuanced gender experience
nick's little sister is the coolest kid in her class because she has a "secret sister" -> adults assume this is an imaginary friend. kids assume she's a superspy like kim possible. nick's sister doesn't confirm or deny anything because she's good at secrets
carrie likes having "girls' nights" and painting nick's nails while they gossip and vent. nick doesn't get any particular gender euphoria from having painted nails, but it is gender affirming in the "this is a thing girls do together" sense
nick's very happy with their gender presentation, actually
being only out to carrie is part of why they stay in their on/off relationship for so long; nick doesn't want to lose being able to go over to carrie's house and just vibe knowing that all 2 people there know she's a girl. she really doesn't want to have to come out to more people -> nick liked hanging out with carrie more before they were dating. but there's no going back now! -> it's not like you can just go back to being friends with your ex or anything!!
nick, posessed by caleb: well THAT's definitely not my gender. nice to have those lingering doubts handily done away with. also, i would like to not be posessed please
nick is now significantly less okay with being constantly misgendered by 99% of everyone they know! -> cause yk. being possessed by a transphobic ghost pretending to be you for months. it has what one might call An Effect
after all the caleb stuff, nick ends up hanging out with the whole ghost band gang more & makes trans friends for the first time! -> they also learn that you can, actually, go back to being friends with your ex, if you're willing to like, have an honest conversation and talk it out
with all the openly trans people in the ghost band gang (flynn, luke, willie, reggie in particular as a fellow transfem) nick feels a lot more comfortable and undaunted by the idea of coming out to them since, like, they already know what's up -> nick's like what's up i'm a she/they bi lesbian and flynns like damn same and then they high five
bc she's now regularly hanging out with a whole bunch of people who know her pronouns and thus hearing them used with some regularity, she starts to get used to it for the first time :) -> downside: now it feels bad when people don't use them. that plus yk. The Caleb Thing means that now they kinda really want to be out, instead of relegating All That to a nebulous future where it's easy and not complicated. Oh Fuck That's So Much Shit To Do. luckily, she has her friends by her side :)
julie and flynn (and luke and alex and reggie and willie and the molinas) help motivate & support her to actually go through with coming out instead of just continuing-not-to-but-now-it-feels-bad -> and help her remember & deal with all the Billion Fucking Steps and Paperwork. executive dysfunction is easier with a friend<3
when nick comes out publicly, she literally just starts wearing pronoun pins. no other changes in appearance whatsoever. she already dressed exactly how she liked :)
when she gets her name legally changed, she just changes it to nick, bc changing your legal name to a nickname of your deadname rules

Julie And The Phantoms
Sometimes, it takes time to find the right words. Other times, they come pouring out of you because you can’t stop voicing all of the things swirling through your mind. This is one of those times. I wanted to give feedback to Netflix on my disappointment in their cancellation of something as fantastically well done as Julie And The Phantoms, but all of this came out instead, and it’s too much to simply share in a feedback form somewhere anonymously on the internet, and this isn’t exactly the format that the sites I freelance for would publish. I’m not generally an editorial writer, and 1500 words about a children’s show isn’t something a lot of pop culture sites are looking for, even now.
That being said, canceling a program like Julie And The Phantoms feels like a massive mistake. No, before you stop reading, this isn’t simply a case of, “oh, this really great show I liked didn’t get to give closure on a cliffhanger ending.” Of course, that’s part of it for a lot of people, but there’s so much more than that.
Julie And The Phantoms debuted on a streaming platform in 2020 at the height of a global pandemic when the world needed it the most. It debuted before the wave of Disney+ superhero shows dealing with grief gave Marvel fans a collective catharsis in 2021. It was ahead of the curve. Julie And The Phantoms said, “look, bad things happen to everyone, and it can feel like a dark hole you can never climb your way out of, but one day, you’ll wake up, and the world won’t seem quite as dark anymore. The darkness is still there, but it’s not all consuming.”
Julie And The Phantoms took the topic of grief and made it accessible for literally every age watching. There’s no complicated explanations of the afterlife for young kids to stumble through. There’s no light glossing over of heavy topics for adults to roll their eyes at. The series managed to appeal to a variety of age groups by appealing to our common ground: the experience of loss. Not everyone has lost a close loved one in a way that drastically alters their lives like Julie Molina has, but loss is a universal feeling. That’s especially true in the wake of COVID-19.
As a result of not shying away from grief, the series managed to become a go-to “comfort show” for millions of people all over the world. So many of us are already united in our grief for the immeasurable loss we’ve been suffocating under the weight of since early 2020. Julie and her ghost band helped lift just a little bit of that weight. As Julie struggles to open her mouth on a stage alone, we feel her fear. As Alex struggles to open a door in the wake of an anxiety flare, we understand his frustration. As Reggie fidgets with his fingers while the others fight, we know his discomfort. As Luke sits on a countertop and sobs at the grief he’s caused and felt, we cry with him. And all of that makes us feel a little less alone.
Julie doesn’t just let her Phantoms help her find her way to let out her pain and her joy through music, she lets us do the same. Audience members young and old have scream-sung the songs in the car, cried through “Unsaid Emily” while they learn the words, and joined in the elation of “Finally Free.” It’s rare for a television show that’s clearly aimed at children to make everyone feel so much in such a short amount of time.
Nine episodes hardly feels like enough, especially when the show brings so much representation to so many marginalized groups - and won three Emmys while doing it. This isn’t a children’s show where the Latina is the sidekick. The Puerto Rican family is front and center with their religion on full display, their language incorporated into their dialogue, and even foods common in Puerto Rican households making an appearance. Julie is the face of Latinas on television for an entire young generation, and that’s remarkable for a young actress like Madison Reyes, but also an unfortunate reality that she’s one of so few.
Julie and the Phantoms also happens to be one of the only shows aimed at children to have canonically queer representation in its main characters. The relationship between Alex and Willie isn’t just queer coded for kids to gossip about and wonder if their parents notice the subtext. Alex is openly gay; they hold hands; Willie is willing to give up his existence to give Alex the chance to cross over. It’s as epic of a love story as a children’s show can tell in just a single season. And robbing the audience of seeing more of that representation isn’t just hurtful; it’s reminding the kids in the audience who might think they’re weird for having a crush on the same gender that their stories just don’t get told. It’s unfair. Then again, we live in an unfair world, right?
The reality of the television and streaming industries is that money talks. Given that Netflix released their Top 10 website in 2021, it’s easy to see that the scandalous and the salacious series are the ones turning the most heads. Sex has always sold, so that’s no surprise. It’s telling, however, that some of those other more popular shows don’t have the word-of-mouth appeal that the Phantoms do. There are countless demonstrations on social media sites of fans influencing others to watch the show, to blog about the show, to get it trending. It regularly becomes a trending topic on sites like Twitter and Tumblr without prompting from Netflix social media accounts, which is a feat in and of itself. What’s truly impressive is that it tends to give juggernauts like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Supernatural some serious trending competition. The show even prompted professionals in the music industry to react to songs and episodes on Youtube and TikTok accounts, spreading the reach even further. It’s a slowly building wave that likely hasn’t crested yet.
Of course, it’s understandable that the global pandemic might be partially to blame for the series cancellation as much as it helped create its bubble of popularity. After all, filming crowd scenes and trying to maintain safety protocols would be difficult for a musical series like this one. It seems a shame to allow that to stop the show completely instead of finding a way to scale back some of those numbers in another season, or perhaps make them more intimate. A musical doesn’t have to cause a spectacle to reach its audience. Just one guy and a guitar can take the world by storm. Just ask Ed Sheeran, who used to perform without a backing band, just his vocals, a guitar, and a loop pedal. Or ask Luke Patterson as he bawls his way through “Unsaid Emily,” which remains the show’s most streamed song. There are ways to curb costs and still put out a quality product that the audience will love.
It’s clear that this series was originally produced to create a marketing push. This band at the center of the show would have played to sold out crowds if the pandemic hadn’t hit. Kids and their parents would have been wrapping lots of Sunset Curve and Phantoms gifts for holidays if the pandemic hadn’t hit. There would have been dozens of signings and photo-ops if the pandemic hadn’t hit. There would have been a whole series of novels fleshing out the backstory the short episodes didn’t have time for. This cast and crew shouldn’t be robbed of the chance to give these characters closure, the audience shouldn’t have this method of processing their grief taken from them, and kids shouldn’t have much needed representation snatched away from them because a pandemic makes things more difficult. Problems are made to be solved, not abandoned.
The general audience, myself included, can’t pretend to know all of the ins and outs of deciding to cancel a show like Julie And The Phantoms. It’s just hard to fathom that a project with so much going for it is just cut off at the knees. There’s a part of me that wants to close the book on the show, and say, “thank you” for even allowing one nearly perfect season of a children’s show to be gifted to the world, and move on. As the show demonstrates though, moving on isn’t as easy as just putting one foot in front of the other, or clicking on a new streaming series. Moving on happens in fits and starts, and for some of us, isn’t really an option; the hole left behind when something is ripped away from us is just too big.
So, instead of moving on, I’ll continue to wallow in my grief in repeatedly binge watching and hold out hope for a miracle. I likely won’t get a ghost band encouraging me to follow my dreams falling from the ceiling (again), but maybe rewatching the show over and over, immersing myself in fandom creations, and repeatedly asking for someone to change their mind about stopping the music will allow me to take a few steps forward.
Or not.
Maybe I’ll still be looking for signs, like dahlias given to me by strangers in alleys, to tell me what to do next.

So, Julie’s life changed dramatically in the lost year and few months, firstly her family lost their mother. Secondly, Julie’s love for music faded until the melody and lyrics were haunting memories. Thirdly, after losing her place in the music program, she had to question her sanity. For in her garage lived three teenage ghosts to her disbelief and horror quite frankly; the ghosts grew on her so much she was in a band with them.
In the hours that Julie was attending school, the boys tended to tour the entire city. They enjoyed seeing the changes that had happened for the two and a half decades. Reggie really enjoyed the western-themed stores, even scaring a little girl with a floating cowboy hat that disappeared once on his head. Alex adored learning about the drastic changes within in the LGBTQ+ community, he had plans for when 2021 LA Pride came in June. Luke, of course, would go anywhere that had music such as music stores, record stores, concert venues and even followed a rock legend once.
“Ooh.” A voice spoke in the record store, “This would be the perfect gift.”
Luke turned to see you gazing at the Rock N’ Roll records with a passion in your eyes and an adorable smile that melted his heart. He couldn’t help but walk closer even if he had no clue if you could see him or not.
“Def Leppard? Definitely one of my favourite bands.” Luke spoke anticipating the usual one-sided conversation. His speculation shattered when you turned to face him with big eyes, “You can see me.”
You nodded your head, pushing your hands into your faded blue jeans glancing around the store, hoping the owner didn’t notice. To your relief the man was oblivious, Luke glanced over before stepping closer.
 “You’re alive?”
“Mhm.” You spoke, removing a single hand to play with your burgundy jacket that cinched at the waist to give form. It was open to reveal a plain black shirt that left an inch of your midsection free, “I always wondered if ghosts were real. I got my answer.”
“This is so cool! My friend is the only person that can see my friends and me.” The grin was breathtaking on the teenage ghost. There was a connection between the two that was immediate and intense.
“At least you’re not alone.” You supplied turning to pick up the record, turning it around to read the tracklist. In the end, you decided you didn’t feel like buying it, replacing it you started for the front door.
A college-aged person walked in glued to the screen of the phone not replying as you mentioned a thank you before the door closed. Luke rushed to follow your steady pace in black hiking boots.
“Where are you going?” Luke questioned coming to the same stride as the girl that had taken his attention quickly. His interest had grown when he found he could hold a conversation with her.
“It’s a nice day. I thought I would go for a walk.” You replied, stopping to look around the street with curious eyes. Luke yearned for those eyes to look in his again because he swore he saw a galaxy in them, “Would you like to join me?”
Luke’s head was nodding in response with a new pep in his step as you walked down the street filled with all different kind of stores. Luke recognized Family Living Grocery store as the one that the Molina got their groceries, he and the guys had joined Julie on a trip once. It was one of his worst memories as a ghost, surrounded by snacks and food he couldn’t indulge in.
“So, what’s your story, Caspar?” You questioned stopping to look as at a beautiful dollhouse, “My cousin had one. We actually renovated it a while back for her unborn niece.”
“Caspar?” Luke teased, watching the nostalgia faded from your expression as you continued on the walk. His hazel eyes, greener at the moment, glittered at the different banter he had with you than the guys or Julie.
“Well, I don’t know your name!” You exclaimed turning the corner at a parlour with gorgeous stencilled artwork on the glass.
“Luke. My name is Luke. Hey! I know this shop!” Luke beamed, stepping back to take in the storefront. In the twenty-five years since he last saw it, the blue faded into a teal, but the door was still the same as it always was.
“You have a tattoo?” You asked, scanning his arms bare in the cut off shirt he wore. You couldn’t see any ink on his skin. Luke couldn’t help the smirk on his face at the blatant heated gaze.
“No. It was 1994. We just played our biggest gig at the time, and Bobby decided we should get tattoos.” Luke’s mouth twisted at the mention of his former friend, “Of course we were sixteen and Alex just about fainted in the shop. The guy took one look at Reggie and laughed at our fake IDs. Told us to come back in a few years.”
One of the few memories that weren’t tainted by the betrayal that Trevor Wilson had gone on to do a year after the tattoo fiasco. It was more than not being credited or his songs being stolen, but it was also that someone he wholeheartedly trusted turned his back on them. Luke frankly didn’t care how Bobby coped after that fateful night. Still, he changed his name and refused any mention of his previous music experience. That hurt a lot.
“So, you’re a ’90s kid.” You raised an eyebrow coming to a stop on the edge of the street, pressing the button to cross.
“Technically a ’70s kid. We died in ’95 a few hours before a life-changing gig.” The mood turned sombre as Luke thought back on that one night that life decided to raise both middle fingers at his dreams, “Death by a hot dog.”
The snicker fell from your mouth before you do anything about it but sobered up quickly in the view of his painful admittance.
“So, you’re seventeen?” You asked crossing when the crosswalk light flickered on. Your attention focused on crossing while listening to the teenager.
“Forever seventeen but I would eighteen physically, but if I had survived I would be forty-three.” Luke mused shoving his hands into his staple black jeans with the chains and his constant accessory of a blue rabbit’s foot.
“Oh, damn. I’ve seventeen as well.” You replied dodging pedestrians before humming a to a song you had heard recently but where you did was unknown. You didn’t want to bump into anyone.
Luke glanced down at his watch, somehow even in death it worked, noticing that it was around the time rehearsal would commence. The thought barely ended before a flash of light preceded Alex’s presence. You slightly jumped in response.
“Luke! Julie’s wondering where you are. We have rehearsal.” Alex was surprised that Luke wasn’t already at the studio. He was always the first one holding his guitar for the rest of them.
One glance at the girl beside Luke cemented a reason for his tardiness. Alex could see that you were the reason and a pretty reason too. Alex wished he had your jacket with such a beautiful colour, but the music was more important.
“Oh, man!” Luke panicked fearing that being late would cause Julie to leave the band after the whole school dance fiasco.
“So, Luke. I like your name by the way. I’m Y/N.” You greeted holding back from offering you a hand, your theory would have been proven correct. Ghosts can’t touch other people, all the movies portrayed that.
“Nice to meet you! I’ll find you soon!” Luke shouted seconds before Alex poofed them both away with a single hand on his bandmate’s shoulder.
A content smile appeared before you continued on your way, unaware of the lack of acknowledgement from people on the street.
Tumblr media
The next few days, Luke would find you either in the record store or just out front during his free time. He hadn’t realized how lonely he was touring the music entertainment spots until he had your company. Soon you were joined by Alex and Reggie every once in a while.
The three were planning outings with their new lifer friend as Julie grabbed her songbook from her room. She was amused when the three wouldn’t shut up.
“What are you planning?” Julie questioned scanning their animated expressions, even taking in the slight change in Alex’s appearance.
Alex had a braided bracelet of the rainbow on his left wrist that definitely hadn’t been there yesterday. He even seemed calmer and less anxious, as well.
“What happened to Alex?” Julie questioned with a small smirk, “Did you bump into Willie?”
Alex shook his head, “No, Luke met this girl at a record store and then Reggie and I met her. She’s cool! There’s this app she showed us, and it had videos of anything you could imagine!”
Julie’s teasing smile faltered at the mention of Luke meeting someone before it returned once more. She pushed the feeling away as this girl had brought peace to the drummer.
“What’s her name?” Julie asked, pushing the songbook away to listen intently to the new piece of the boys’ afterlife. The three burst into stories of the girl.
“She took me to this cool place nearby where people store their horses!” Reggie burst out, clapping his head, “I already have a country song started! This is so a hit single for our future country album!”
Alex only released an exasperated sigh at Reggie’s idea that he voiced every single day since the beginning of the band. Luke was just used to finding sheets of songs from Reggie around the studio and often his songbook too.
“She also brought me a bag of clothing she had in her house that she let me go through. Apparently, her house is the place where cousins take their old clothing.” Alex supplied striking a pose in his new white sweater with a rainbow logo on the front.
Julie grinned at the positivity radiating off the two boys.
“Is she a ghost?”
Luke shook his head, “No. She’s alive.”
A spark of happiness flits itself inside of Julie before it dissipated because Flynn had already gently let the girl down about Luke.
“What’s her name! I’m gonna find her Instagram!” Julie took out her phone waiting as Alex supplied her the name. Her thumbs froze before she could type staring down at the black screen.
The name was familiar.
Laying on a bed on San Pablo Street was a girl with her eyes closed and a serene expression. This bed wasn’t just any bed in a home. Instead, this bed was one no one wished to be in. A bed with machines surrounding and right in the middle of those machines was Y/N.
The very girl that had met Luke, Reggie and Alex were in fact in the ICU of a hospital recovering in a coma.
“Why do you look like that?” Luke demanded as the colour drained from the lead singer of their band.
“Are you sure it was Y/N Y/L/N?” Julie gulped dread filling her veins as each boy nodded their head and the girl slumped, “I go to school with her. The thing is she’s been in a coma for two weeks now.”
Tumblr media
You were outside the record store once more as the three ghosts appeared in front of you each looking the worst you had ever seen them.
“Did you lie?” Luke questioned stepping closer to the teenage girl that furrowed her brows in confusion, “You said that you are alive. Why did you lie?”
“Lie?” You asked, taking a step back from the odd energy the boys had. A look of distraught on each face, “What are you talking about?”
“Why are you here every day at this exact time. Never late, never early.” Alex questioned sick to his stomach as your brows came together.
“I- walk…” You trailed off thinking of the last week in deep thought paling as you had no recollection of going home or getting to the store. It was like you blacked out each time.
Actually, the last time you remember not being with the guys or at the store was two weeks ago.
“I don’t re…member.” You whispered, “I haven’t seen my family since…oh my god.”
Luke stepped closer, terrified as he reached out, hoping with his entire being his hand would go through you. It didn’t. Luke’s hand rested on your arm, still wearing that burgundy jacket. Your eyes flickered between his solid hand and the same outfit you wore for weeks now. Why would you be wearing a jacket and hiking boots in Los Angeles?
“My cousin had been saving up for a trip for her eighteenth birthday. She wanted to go skiing, so we split the cost between our families.”
As if a wall broke, you realized with horror that the college boy that hadn’t held the for you like you first thought. He hadn’t seen or heard you because in his world you weren’t there. No one had acknowledged you because they couldn’t see you just like they couldn’t see Luke.
“What else do you remember?” Reggie spoke up next, noticing that Luke was getting more upset. His eyes going so light the green appeared to be blue and glittered with tears and his heart dropping.
“My parents, my cousin and I were driving up the mountain in the rented car. There-“

Two Weeks Ago
Your head leaned again Lou’s head sharing the headphones connected to your phone blasting the carefully curated playlist. Lou had been living with your parents and you the last six months as her parents were travelling for work. It was a dream because she was like a sister already and vice versa; Lou as a surprise baby with her older sister being ten years older.
“We haven’t been to the slopes since we first got married.” Dad said glancing over at your mother in the passenger seat, “Didn’t we conceive-“
“Dad! Gross!” You shouted, wrinkling your nose as he glanced in the rear-view mirror to smile at your antics. Your mother’s laugh was probably one of your most favourite sounds in the world, it was warm like hot chocolate on a cold day.
“Did you see that video of the hologram band?” Lou asked, not paying attention to your family’s antics, “It’s super cool.”
“We still have half of our playlist to go through. You should show me when we get to the cabin.” You replied, “We could put it on the projector with the others.”
The others being your extended family, including the surprise of Lou’s parents. Your mother pointed out the snow on the mountain gaining everyone’s attention. It was beautiful compared to sunny Los Angeles.
Lou’s thumb was just about to click the video of Julie and the Phantoms against your wishes. You felt the fear before the yell, snapping your head up you watched as a pickup truck hit ice swerving into your lane. The screech of tires preceded the crunch of the vehicles hitting each other. Throughout the surrounding area, the echoes of the crash bounced off the mountains scaring birds away. Miraculously Lou’s phone survived the crash and played the electric video of ‘Edge of Great’ by Julie and the Phantoms. A song you would hum under your breath during your walks meeting the guys.
The snow turned red under four of five bodies. You lay nonconscious a stark difference in the burgundy jacket and black shirt you had painstakingly chosen that morning.

IN LIFE, IN DEATH...
PART FOUR
Pt1, Pt2, Pt3
Warnings: fighting with parents and some swearing
Tumblr media
---
The bright sunlight hit your eyes and you squinted a little as your feet hit the driveway.
Julie’s song was still playing through your head, and so was your conversation with her last night. The passion in her voice when she sang was the same as when she talked about her mom.
You wanted to run in and comfort her somehow, but Luke seemed insistent on staying outside, making Alex grumble next to you.
“Dude, why did you stop me? Julie needs a hug.”
“A ghost hug is not the feel-good moment you think it is. Trust me.” Luke said. What Julie needs is some privacy.”
“I think you poofed us out because you can’t handle when other people cry.” Alex waved his finger in Luke’s face, making you frown at his words.
It wasn’t a secret that Luke wasn’t the best with feelings, but he had always been there for you. Last night in the darkroom, and again at the diner, and countless other times.
“I should know,” Alex continued, gesturing between Luke and Reggie. “I cried in a room for 25 years, and I didn’t get a single hug from either of you.”
Reggie sighed, opening his arms. “Bring it in.”
“Don’t touch me!”
“This is why no one but (Y/n) hugs you.” Reggie mumbled as you rubbed Alex’s arm.
“Okay.” Luke interrupted. “So, once we get the courage to go in there, we should ask Julie why she lied about playing the piano.”
Alex shrugged. “And maybe tell her how amazing she is?”
You nodded and Reggie exclaimed. “She’s legit! I got ghost-bumps.”
Just then, the gate leading to the house swung open and a girl made her way down the pavement. As she got closer, you could hear her sobbing quietly.
“Oh no, was she crying too?” You asked as the girl entered the garage.
“Yes!” Luke shivered. “We definitely can’t go in there.”
“No, but we can listen.” Reggie ran towards the door, standing on his tip-toes to peek through the window.
“Guys! We can’t eavesdrop, that’s creepy!” You whispered, but the boys ignored you and crowded the door.
Seconds later, they all ducked to avoid being seen and you couldn’t help but be curious. So you ran over and squeezed yourself between Luke and Alex.
“I’m not okay!” The other girl shouted. “You got kicked out of music! I’ve been up all night thinking about what I was gonna say, and I might’ve had seven sodas but I need to get this out.”
“Flynn-” Julie started but Flynn shook her head and started ranting.
“Jules, if you leave the music program, we’ll be apart forever. Sure, we’ll see each other in the hallway sometimes but we’ll make new friends.”
“That’s not true.” Julie said.
“You’re right, I won’t make any new friends. The only time we’ll contact each other is by liking each other’s posts on Instagram. Every time I hit that little heart, mine will be breaking because my best friend left me.”
“What’s Instagram?“ Alex whispered to you. You shrugged, making a mental note to ask Julie later.
Julie sighed. “I just played piano and sang again.”
“What? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was trying but then your seven sodas kicked in.” Julie laughed.
Flynn squealed. “I’m so happy for you! Look at you, looking all alive again. What made you play again?”
Julie slid her mom’s song across the piano to show Flynn and you couldn’t help but smile. You obviously hadn’t known Julie for long, but you were so happy that she reconnected with her mom and music.
“I was so scared to play it, cause everything having to do with music reminds me of her. But I woke up this morning, realizing that’s exactly why I should play it. To keep her memory alive.”
“We need to tell Mrs. Harrison that you can play so you can stay in the music program. My girl’s back! Double Trouble lives again.”
“Not our band name.” Julie laughed as the girls started walking out of the garage.
“Shit, she’s coming!” You whispered. “Act natural.”
You and Reggie sank to the floor, Luke leaned on his arm and Alex pretended to inspect the light hanging above you. Julie made eye contact with you and smiled.
“Oh, hey!”
Flynn turned around and watched Julie expectantly. Julie laughed awkwardly and started skipping down the driveway.
“Let’s hustle!” She grabbed Flynn’s arm and started walking up the stairs, waving goodbye.
“We weren’t listening!” Reggie said, earning a pinch on the arm from you and a kick to the ankle from Luke. Julie started swatting the air, trying to play it off like there was a bug, and pushed Flynn up the stairs.
As soon as she was gone, you made your way back into the garage. You sat at the piano bench, mindlessly playing the few chords you knew.
“I wonder why Julie didn’t tell us she could shred on the piano.” Reggie said.
“It probably has something to do with her mom.” You guessed, your fingers gliding across the keys.
“Yeah, that must’ve been hard.” Alex added before climbing up to the loft. “I really feel for her.”
“Yeah, but now she’s got music back in her life. Just like us.” Luke said, reaching over and hitting the note next to your finger.
“Yeah, I’m not sure you can call what we have a life.” Alex said and you snorted. “Hey, I think some of our old clothes are up here.”
He threw down a black trash bag filled with clothes and you sighed in relief. The night you died, you wore a plain pair of jeans, and your favorite old t-shirt of your dad’s. You usually wore one when you played a gig, so that a part of him could be with you in some way and of course; Luke’s jacket.
And as much as you loved your outfit, being in the same clothes for 25 years was not exactly sanitary, even by ghost standards.
“Sweet!” Luke exclaimed, taking off his shirt.
Shit!
You tried as subtly as possible to look away before anyone saw the blush on your cheeks, and you thought you had gotten away with it until Reggie laughed from across the room.
You sent him a glare, but that only made him laugh harder.
Suddenly, the studio doors opened again and Julie’s dad came in. He had a sad look on his face and a camera in his hands. It had ‘Ray Molina’ engraved on the handle so you figured that was his name.
The man walked right through Reggie, making him shudder. “That was weird. But somehow I can tell this man has a kind heart.”
“So, how have you been?” Ray asked, his voice heavy.
“Honestly, not that good.” Reggie said and you rolled your eyes. “See, we ate these hotdogs and-”
“Julie sang for the first time again this morning.” Ray took a picture of the room. “She hasn’t done that in almost a year. You would’ve loved it.”
“Yeah, we heard cause we-.” Reggie wiggled his fingers in front of Ray’s face. “Oh, I get it. He's not talking to us."
"Dude, you are so lucky you play bass." Luke said.
"I think he's talking to Julie's mom." Alex sighed.
Ray started walking towards the piano. "She's such an amazing young woman."
He started running his hands on the keys so you slid off the bench. You knew you definitely shouldn't be listening, this was definitely not something you weren't meant to hear but you couldn't help your curiosity. "Everyday she reminds me more and more of you."
"Called it!" Alex cheered.
Ray shifted the camera between his hands. "I'm taking pictures for the real estate website. I don't really wanna move, but...it's what's best for Julie."
Alex came down from the loft and you all crowded around the piano. Luke stared at Ray with wide eyes. "Move?"
Ray gently played a few notes of a ballad before he spoke again. "There's so many memories out here. Like, Julie sitting next to you and Carlos trying to sing with his missing front teeth."
Luke let out a shaky breath and you realized he was crying. It wasn’t until a tear rolled down your cheek that you realized that you were too. You frantically wiped your eyes, doing your best not to break down.
Ray was exactly what you always pictured your dad used to be like, and his love for Julie was exactly the same kind you knew he would've had for you. Thinking about your dad made you think about your mom, and that made trying to stop crying a whole lot harder.
"Come on guys, not you too." Reggie said.
"It's just...he's talking about moving but the poor guy doesn't wanna move." Luke sniffled.
Ray stood up and took a picture of right where you were all standing. "It's like they grew up out here."
Reggie fanned his face. "Now he's got me too."
Alex scoffed. "Okay, how am I the emotional one?"
"Can we go see my family? See how they're doing?" Reggie asked, his voice shaking a little.
You nodded. “Yeah, listening to this doesn’t feel right.”
Just as you go to leave, Ray laughs. "Remember when the kids were at your sisters and we came out here on our anniversary..."
"Yeah, no! " Luke cringed. "Definitely wrong.”
-
The beach was where you spent a lot of your free time when you were alive.
Usually after a long day when you just needed a place to work on new lyrics in peace. But sometimes after playing all day at the pier, the boys would drag you down to the water and you would all stay there as long as possible. Away from parents and responsibilities.
But just like everything else, it had changed so much.
"A bike shack," Reggie sighed. "Right where my house used to be."
"I'm sorry, Reg." You rested your head on Reggie’s shoulder.
"Why couldn't they at least have turned it into something cool like a pizzeria or something?"
"They tore down the whole neighborhood." Alex said.
"I guess my folks are gone."
Alex kicked his foot into the sand. "Everyone's gone. Twenty-five years, gone. Friends, family, Bobby, everyone."
That was another person you hadn't wanted to let yourself think about. Even though you and Bobby weren't super close, he was still a part of Sunset Curve. He could be a little bit of an asshole sometimes but he was still your friend.
"Bobby, that's right." Reggie said. "Guess that vegetarian lucked out. Wonder what happened to him?"
"He probably just got old like everyone else and moved on." Luke grumbled.
"Dude, how are you so chill about all of this?”
“Yeah, don’t you want to figure out what happened?” You asked.
“Let’s be real for a second.” Luke exhaled, clearly getting worked up. “It’s not like any of us were close to our families. My parents always regretted buying me that guitar. Reggie, your parents were literally a fight away from divorce.”
Luke ran a hand through his hair as he ranted, talking with his hands the way he always did when he was upset. “Alex, I- Your parents were never cool again after you told them you were gay.”
His eyes landed on you and he seemed to ease up a little. “(Y/n), you practically raised yourself since your mom was gone all the time.”
“Yeah, okay.” You said. “None of us had it great.”
“But at least we had something! What do we have now?” Alex shouted. “And before you say cool teleportation, I’m not cool with that either. It tingles. In weird places.”
Luke sprang to his feet. “I’ll tell you what he had. It’s what we’ve had since the day we came together. Guys, we have us. We’re the only family we’re ever gonna need. You wanna know what else we got?”
“I’m gonna guess death breath?” Reggie said.
“Our music, you dork.” Luke laughed. “People can hear us play again! They can’t see us, whatever, but they can feel us. I wish I had my guitar.”
Suddenly, the air around you made a sharp ‘whoosh’ sound and Luke’s six-string appeared in his hands.
“Whoa.” You said.
“How did you do that?” Reggie asked.
“I-I don’t know. I mean I wished for it and then...” Luke played a few chords and beamed.
Reggie jumped in place with his arms open, trying to wish for random things before he eventually gave up and slumped into the sand.
“I think I know what will cheer you up.” Luke said. He played the opening of ‘This Band Is Back’ and you couldn’t help but smile. Out of all the Sunset Curve songs, this was one of your favorites.
“Come on, Reginald.” Alex said as he started hitting his legs and chest to make a beat.
You offered Reggie your hand and pulled him up as Luke started the countdown. Reggie took it and twirled you around, effectively getting sand in your shoes. You laughed and spun him around before dragging him up to the tables in front of the restaurants as he sang.
The people around you seemed confused by the sudden music, but they danced around anyway. You forgot how much you loved seeing people react to your music. Watching them dance and smile made all your worries float away, even if it was just for now.
And for the first time since the Orpheum,
It really did feel like the band was back.
Tumblr media
August 1994
It was just after sunset when you called the Patterson house.
The sound of your mom slamming the front door was still fresh in your mind and before you could stop yourself, your fingers were flying across the buttons. Luke was the only person who knew about your relationship with your mom.
You didn’t want to worry Cece, or Alex, or anyone else. But hiding things from Luke wasn’t easy, especially with how stubborn he was. So you told him everything, and he told you,
‘Call me next time, okay?’
The line only rang twice before someone picked up. “Hello?”
It was Emily, Luke’s mom.
You took a deep breath, trying to keep from crying. “Hi, Mrs. Patterson.”
Emily laughed and you could practically hear her roll her eyes fondly. “(Y/n), sweetie, what did I tell you about calling me that?”
Even though you and Luke had been friends most of your lives, you had only met Emily a handful of times. Luke didn’t really like hanging out at his house, especially when he started fighting with them regularly. Still, Emily always treated you like her own kid whenever you were around.
“Sorry, Emily.” You said. “Is Luke around?”
You heard some shuffling as she called out for him and after a few minutes, Luke picked up the phone. “Hey.”
“Hi, are you busy?”
“No, why?” He asked.
“Well, I made enough cookies to feed a small country and my mom’s gonna be gone for the night so I thought we could hang out.” You rambled. “Maybe finish ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark?”
Luke laughed excitedly. “Yeah, sure! Give me like 20 minutes.”
Luke’s laugh was so infectious that you had to fight through a giggle. “Okay, see you soon.”
As you went to hang up, you hear Emily’s voice again. She was teasing Luke about something but all you caught was the word ‘Girlfriend’, making you turn bright red.
You put the phone back on the hook just as the oven beeped to signal that it was ready to bake the cookies. You put them in the oven and turned your attention to the huge bowl of cake batter in front of you. At this point, there wasn’t anything left in the kitchen you hadn’t baked.
There was no way you would be able to eat all of it, even with Luke’s help. But you needed something to distract yourself to keep your mind from overloading.
True to his word, Luke arrived twenty minutes later, bursting through your front door and screaming the Indiana Jones theme song at the top of his lungs. He skipped his way into the kitchen, immediately sensing something was wrong when you didn’t join him or even acknowledge his presence.
“(Y/n)?” Luke approached you slowly.
“Hey.” You tried to sound as casual as possible, not looking up from the bowl. “So, you ready to finally finish this movie?”
Luke didn’t say anything as he scanned the kitchen. There were piles of cookies and cooking utensils all over the counter, and you had flour in your hair. You could see the realization flash across his face through your eyelashes.
“Okay, you’re baking everything in the house, which can only mean one of two things,” Luke said, his voice becoming more serious as he jumped up on the counter. “You either watched Sixteen Candles unsupervised again or…”
You stayed quiet as you slowly stirred the batter. It was ready to put in the pan ten minutes ago but you needed something to do to distract yourself.
Luke’s hand gently gripped yours before taking the spoon from you and letting it fall into the bowl. You looked up at him to find him already staring at you with a furrowed brow.
Damn it.
You should’ve known he would see through your thinly veiled excuses and promise of cookies. Luke was more observant than people gave him credit for.
“C’mere,” Luke said, opening his arms. You moved between his legs and buried your head in his chest, covering his shirt in tears, flour, and batter. But he didn’t seem to mind as he rubbed circles into your arm with one hand while the other cradled your head.
“She hates me.” You said through a deep, shuddering breath.
“She doesn’t hate you,” Luke reasoned. “It’s impossible for anyone to hate you.”
One of the things you loved about Luke was his protective streak when it came to his friends, and the way that no matter what, he could only see the best in them.
And as his best friend, you were pretty much perfect in his eyes. Which meant that when you didn't immediately agree, Luke launched into a rant.
"First of all, you're like the smartest person in the world. You manage to get good grades while also working at the diner three days a week which is nuts.
Secondly, your voice is insane! And your lyrics, (Y/n), we wouldn't even have half the Sunset Curve songs without your killer songwriting skills!"
"You done, Lu?" You joked as you pulled away just enough to look up at him, trying not to blush. No matter how hard you tried to play it cool when he complimented you, it always made you melt inside.
"I'm just saying," Luke laughed softly. “You are literally the best person I know, Squeaks.”
You let out a watery laugh at the mention of your childhood nickname. It was one that Luke had given to you in 4th grade after he put a bug on your arm and you had squeaked in fear.
“And just think,” Luke whispered, his voice sounding a little wistful. “One day, we’ll get signed to a label and end up somewhere far away from here.”
“We barely started making our demo.” You said, making Luke scrunch his nose in the way that always made you giggle. "Don't you think you're getting a little ahead of yourself?"
“Nope.” He smirked. “Okay, I gotta ask, were you planning on baking this or is this a new look you’re going for? ‘Cause I gotta be honest, it’s not your best.” Luke said teasingly as he swiped some batter from your cheek.
“Oh, really?” You asked, dipping your finger in the bowl and smearing the batter across Luke’s face, making him gasp. Then you took a slight step back and hummed thoughtfully. “Definitely looks better on me.”
“You know what?” Luke scoffed, trying to hold back a smile and before you could blink, he reached into the bowl and flung the spoon at you, splattering your shirt. “I think you’re right.”
“Jerk!” You laughed, wiping off your shirt as Luke tried to lick the batter off his chin but he only managed to make an ever bigger mess.
“Did I get it?” He asked, making you giggle.
“Not quite.” You reached forward and carefully wiped it off, desperately trying to focus on anything other than how close your faces were. But it was impossible when you could feel Luke’s breath on the tip of your nose. “There.”
Luke’s face was unreadable as he looked down at you. The playfulness had evaporated in the air and was replaced with something else that you couldn’t really read either. Just when you thought the moment would last forever, the timer for the second batch of cookies rang through the kitchen, and you practically bolted to the oven.
You pulled them out and put them on a plate. “So, you know that we have to watch Sixteen Candles now, right?”
Luke groaned, pretending to be annoyed. Even though he would never admit it, you knew he secretly loved romance movies. “Fine, but Raiders of the Lost Ark after?”
“Deal.”
As Luke went into the living room to start the movie, you sighed to yourself. Maybe you would never have a normal relationship with your mom.
But you had your band, your friends, and even if it wasn’t exactly in the way you wanted;
You had Luke.

Toy Store AU!
I AM SO SORRY ABOUT HOW LONG THIS TOOK! I blame college.
ANYWAYS...
This is more of a toy factory(but like the fun kind) than a store, but that's the vibes I'm feeling. The Molina family runs a toy business, making super cool stuff from scratch rather than all that cheap plastic stuff that gets mass produced. It's a Molina family tradition that Ray married into(Yes Molina is Rose's last name, you can pry that headcanon out of my cold, dead hands).
Rose was the master of all things woodwork, and passed on many of these skills to her daughter. Their house has always been filled with little carved animals, handmade dishes, and lovely woodburned signs on the bedroom doors. Ray was slightly terrified when Rose started teaching Julie to carve pretty young, but it was mostly without serious injury.
Ray is better at the stuffed side of the toy world. He and Rose met when he was an apprentice in the stuffy workshop and she was learning the ropes from her dad. They fell slow and steady (Rose's parents shipped it from the beginning), even when Ray took some time away to act as the tour photographer for his friend, Trevor. Rose and Trevor ended up being good friends as well when they finally met!
Back to the present, Julie has just come back from a year away at boarding school. It wasn't anyone's first choice, but after Rose died, trying to be around the toy store was just too much for her. Boarding school was Tia's idea, as a way to give her some space to find herself. It helped some, but Julie comes home for the summer sick of being the girl with the dead mom. It's still hard to enter the workshop space though, so she starts working at the shop part of the business instead.
Enter Flynn, who got the cashier job back in January. The two of them become fast friends, bonding over stupid Karens, after hours restocks, and helping kids find just the right new friend. Julie discovers a surprising link between them, that being that Flynn is dating Carrie, Trevor's daughter. Trevor and Carrie hadn't been around much since Rose passed, so Julie hadn't seen Carrie in ages, but they start to get to know each other again through Flynn. It's sweet!
Alex grew up near the factory and he and Julie were super good friends as kids. They still are. Ray and Rose took a liking to him as well. So when he showed up one night when he was 16, explaining that his parents had found out he was gay and made it clear that they wouldn't be paying for anything for him outside of the roof he was 'allowed' to share with them, they quickly got him a job. He floated through positions for a while, doing well in most areas but just trying to find something that he really loved. He's settled at the moment as a delivery driver for the store. He likes the freedom of it, and how concrete it is. He's the best driver they have.
Reggie and Luke are partway into their first year as workshop apprentices. Luke mostly applied to satisfy his mom, who was angry about him not going to college, but he has discovered the fun of music boxes and maybeeee is slightly obsessed. Reggie has ended up in Ray's old position as the stuffy apprentice with his knack for tidy stitches and adding a bit of love to every single one.
Luke ends up poking around a bit in a closet of older models and stuff and finds some of Rose's music boxes(one of which has Julie's voice on it). He loves it and immediately goes to ask his boss/mentor, John, about it. John explains about Rose and how they all thought that Julie would follow in her footsteps as a woodworker, as she was one of the most talented he'd ever seen at such a young age, but how she hadn't been able to keep creating after losing her mom.
Not realizing that Julie is back now, at least for the summer, Luke gets sad but lets it go. And then she walks in on him listening to the music box in the break room a few days later. She kinda flips cause where the heck did he get that, and he goes on his whole thing about talent and art being something you have to let out. Julie ends up bolting into the workshop to get away. Luke is like, "Frick I came on too strong again didn't I..."
But who should Julie run into other than Reggie and Alex, who were packing up an order near the back of the space. And Alex immediately realizes she's having an anxiety attack and sits her down. Reggie grabs a big teddy bear for her to hug, and then ends up pulling Luke away when he comes in after her. After Julie calms down with help from Alex, Luke apologizes and they all just kinda... keep talking after that. And eventually Julie starts doing woodwork stuff again. The first thing she actually finishes is decal for Alex's bass drum with the logo of the boys' band on it. They all cry.
Andddd why must these always get so long when I do them? /nm
Anyways, hope you like it!!!!

Bonus: Summer School-Reggie
Slices of Summer(6.25): A look at the band’s first summer together. Can they figure out boundaries, communication, visibility, among other things and still enjoy their summer?
First; Prev Next
This is more of a bonus chapter and not strictly necessary to understand the plot overall.
__________
Reggie was fiddling with his bass as he lounged back on the couch. Alex was up in the loft, sifting through a box while Luke stood at the piano frantically scratching away in his notebook. Reggie would claim he didn’t understand how Luke’s best writing always seemed to happen in the most random of places. However Reggie once wrote a full song while hanging upside down in a tree, so if anything the back of a piano seemed pretty normal.
The three of them were attempting to give Julie space. Her dad had asked to speak with her after breakfast, so when Reggie returned to the studio that morning he let Luke and Alex know it may be a family bonding day. That idea disappeared real quick when he heard what sounded like shouting from the house. He sat up, old instincts flared awake, that wasn’t happy fun shouting. That was definitely angry shouting, from the house where Julie was.
He didn’t even realize he’d poofed into the kitchen until he was face to face with a sober faced Ray. Well kind of face to face, Ray was sitting at the table, while Reggie was closer to his usual spot at the counter. Reggie flinched as the shouting-which he now could see came from Tia Victoria-rang in his ear, “those pendejos need to get their heads out of their..”
“Victoria,” Ray’s voice sounded so hollow and small even if it did do a good job at getting the woman in question to stop shouting. Reggie stood gaping. In all the time he had been hovering around the Molina house he had never seen the two of them like this. Reggie could feel the emotional turbulence deep in his chest.
While Victoria had stopped shouting she clearly didn't feel like stopping her rant. "She shouldn't be punished just because those idiots that run the District are soulless." Victoria gestured vaguely upstairs.
“Is she talking about Julie? What happened to Julie” Luke’s voice came from slightly behind Reggie. Reggie instinctually shushed him-clueless as to when the guitarist had even poofed in-wide eyes trained on Ray. Reggie’s brain had decided that while she may be the more obviously angry one, Victoria's words were more defensive, no cause for alarm. Ray’s stoicism was of greater concern right now.
Somewhere deep in the back of his mind, Reggie logically knew he didn’t need to worry like that. Logically he had seen Ray mad before, when Julie had snuck out, and at the time Ray’s eyes reflected that anger. Now Ray’s eyes were more distant, almost heartbroken. Reggie’s logic was being drowned out by the ice cold sense of deja vu washing over him.
Victoria had continued ranting, but Reggie had tuned her out, all his focus on Ray. So he wasn’t surprised when he caught Ray’s next words before Victoria seemed to, “I haven’t seen her shut down like that since,” Ray’s words caught in his throat as the man scrubbed his face with his hands. Victoria was effectively silenced and she quickly moved to sit in the chair nearest Ray.
Reggie felt all the tension he hadn’t realized he’d been holding release and he leaned heavily onto the counter. He became aware of a pair of hands on his back, and he was pretty sure Alex was saying something. When did Alex get here? Reggie didn’t really have time to process as his brain switched to a different kind of panic, Ray and Victoria were like this because something had happened to Julie. He had to know what happened to Julie.
“I was really hoping this summer wouldn’t be a repeat of last year.” he heard Ray say. Why couldn’t he see Ray? Reggie answered his own question as he lifted his head from the counter, when did that happen?
“We really need to stop listening in on conversations like these” Alex murmured. Some part of Reggie agreed. However, the part that didn’t was very aware that Alex didn’t seem to be moving either.
Reggie tuned back into Victoria who was currently shushing Ray and tried to comfort him with a small smile. “It’s not a repeat. You know that. You already told me how much better this summer has already been.”
Ray returned the smile weakly, “Did I tell you she even went to the beach with friends? The last beach trip she had was with the 5 of us before the worst of the chemo.”
Reggie inhaled sharply, he heard Alex and Luke do the same. His brain connected dots he wasn’t even aware needed connecting. A moment's hesitation over an outgrown swimsuit suddenly felt heavier. He definitely couldn’t be here anymore but he didn’t think he could poof either. He fully stood up and physically walked to the stairs, “C’mon, we should check on Julie.”
His thoughts wouldn’t quiet as climbed the stairs. She had gone to the beach because of him. The first time since her mom passed away. Should he be feeling this guilt in the pit of his stomach? Distantly he remembered Flynn being upset over Julie finding music again through the band without her. Would she be just as upset over this?
Soon Reggie found himself face to face with Julie’s closed bedroom door. He couldn’t bring himself to knock. Alex’s arm snaked around him and knocked before he heard Alex softly call out Julie's name. No answer. Reggie let out a deep sigh before he leaned against the wall by her door and slid to the floor. He kept his eyes closed, he hadn’t looked at Alex and Luke since he poofed out of the studio and he really didn’t want to deal with interpreting the looks on their faces.
“Reg?” Alex sounded like he’d crouched down to join Reggie on the floor. Luke was knocking on Julie's door again.
“I just need a moment.” Reggie pulled his knees to his chest and rested his arms and head on top of them. He felt so drained.
“Of course, it sounds like everyone might need a moment right now.” That last bit sounded like it was aimed at Luke more than Reggie. It didn’t take long before he heard the sound of ghost poofing and Reggie was sure he was alone in the hallway.

Looking Up Luke x Reader Pt 1
Tumblr media
Pairings: Luke x Reader (Briefly at the end), Julie x BestFriend! Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Brief mention of sad memories.
Word count: 2211
This is My first post so bare with me. I’ll get better at the edits and stuff as I learn my way around Tumblr. I also took inspiration from Paramore and the reader was strongly based on Hayley Williams in my mind but you can make her in your image. I don't own Paramore or their music. The song I took inspiration from is Looking Up.
“Jules, you and Flynn are coming tonight, right?” You ask while you and your best friend throw you school books in your locker after your last period. Julie looks over and smiles at you.
“Of course! The boys were wanting to tag along especially after I told them how you were in a band of your own. They wanted to know why you denied their offer after Luke heard you shred the guitar solo during that one rehearsal.” She says.
“If he thought I was shredding that guitar, just wait till they see what I really got going on. Right now all they know and all anyone knows and thinks is I play guitar for the band. Also Luke wanted me to join so he could see me everyday.” You smile.
“Wait, Jackie walked?!” She screamed excitedly.
“Yeah, after her and I got into this huge argument about the upcoming shows and letting me actually sing vocals for MY songs she walked away, and someone had to take her place. I wrote this new song we are going to play tonight, you’re going to love it.” You smile at her.
“Y/N this is amazing! Our mom’s would be so proud of us.” She smiles longingly.
“Maybe we could collaborate one day, I know you’re a bit more popish than what Paramore is but we could make something work!” You smile at her. She jumps up and down loving the idea of the whole thing.
“Yes! That would be amazing! Let's head home, we have to get ready for tonight. Oh how will we get in? I thought the venue sold out in minutes?” She asks turning to look at you as you two walk through the doors to your car. You pulled 5 vip lanyards out of your bag and handed them to her.
“I got you covered girl, don’t worry.” You smile unlocking the door. The drive back to your house was filled with you blasting all your bands old songs and singing along. You were lucky enough to live in the same neighborhood as Julie and the boys so you often carpooled to school but the boys had things to do after school before the show so they went their separate ways. Julie was trying to help you choose your clothes for tonight but with you two being so entirely polar opposite it was hard. If anyone was to help you it should have been Luke since you two share almost the same fashion sense with a hint of Reggie mixed in. You eventually settled for an old cut up Sunset Curve shirt you “borrowed” from Luke with a lace bra underneath and you paired that with your highwaisted, ripped black skinny jeans and your studded Doc Martens. What you decided to do with your hair and makeup will come to you once you hit the venue. You gathered your things to pack into the car while Julie made some final accessory details to your look. She handed you your chain to attach to your jeans along with an assortment of rings and bracelets. Everything was looking perfect for your first big performance as the lead singer.
“Okay, I gotta head to the venue for soundcheck. You, Flynn and the boys should be there around 6, the show starts at 7:00.” You smile, dropping her off at her house. You see the boys sitting in the garage waving at you. You smile and wave back before backing out of Molina's driveway and head towards The Orpheum.
Soundcheck went perfectly and it left a little time to grab a light snack before you had to get ready. You knew not to go to the street dogs stand after the incident with the boys that ended their lives 25 years ago before they met Julie and you and somehow were brought back by the two of you. Your drummer’s  girlfriend decided to have catering come out with healthy choices which you were enjoying as we speak. Heading back to your dressing room the security guard stopped you saying there was a group of people here to see the band.
“Oh that’s my friends from school, you can let them on back. Thanks Alan!” You smile popping a strawberry in your mouth.
“You didn’t tell me you were playing the Orpheum!” You hear Flynn yell causing you to turn around with a piece of cantaloupe hanging out of your mouth.
“Well you didn’t ask.” You say chewing the part that was in your mouth.
“Okay smartass. Also when did you change your hair color?” She asks pointing to your now orange hair. You smile slyly at her.
“I did last night, but I wore it up in a hat today so people didn’t see it until now.” You say getting up to hug your friends. The boys are just standing at the door staring at you.
“I don’t bite, you can come in.” You joke ushering them in.
“You’re playing the Orpheum tonight Y/N how does it feel to make it big?” Alex asks.
“I’m not sure yet, maybe I’ll know after the show. Which speaking of that when you guys head down to the floor just find Alan and he’ll take you to the spot that’s reserved for you guys.” You smile at them.
“Your hair is so bright.” Is all Reggie can say making everyone burst out laughing.
“I can’t wait to see you shred the stage tonight. That day at rehearsal when you and Julie were goofing off… Holy shit, that was sick!” Luke says jumping up and down.
“It runs in the family to be honest. Our moms were in a band when they were our age and my dad is a world known rockstar so I learned at a young age.” You smile winking at Julie.
“Well we should start heading down so you can get ready. We are going to dinner after this to celebrate just so you know.” Julie says smiling at you. Once they left you started getting ready to meet up with your band to do your before show ritual handshake.
“All right guys, this is the Orpheum. The place is packed with execs. This will be our big break. Let’s rock it!” Andrew says putting his hand in the middle as the rest of you follow. The opening band finishes their set signaling your time to go. The band runs out causing the crowd to erupt in screams of your name. You stay back to surprise everyone as they begin playing your new song.
“Los Angeles! Are you ready!” You scream from backstage as the beat picks up.
Things are looking up, oh finally!
I thought I'd never see the day
When you smile at me.
We always pull through, oh when we try,
I'm always wrong but you're never right.
Oh you're never right!
You run out causing everyone to scream as you work the stage to the music. Luke, Flynn and the boys look up in awe hearing your voice for the first time. The way you rocked out was breathtaking to Luke.
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
And it's not a dream anymore!
No. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with the audience as you sang the lyrics. You shot a wink over at Luke when you noticed his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Julie looked over at him and knew right then and there he has fallen in love with you even more than he already was. She smiled at her bandmate. She saw the smile break across his face as he began banging his head to the beat.
Could have given up so easily
I was a few cheap shots away from the end of me
Taken for granted, almost everything that I would have died for
Just yesterday,
Just yesterday
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with your bandmates as they played their instruments, dancing around the stage as you had the time of your life. Jumping and head banging with your guitarist.
Tumblr media
God knows the world doesn't need another band, (whoa, whoa!)
But what a waste it would've been! (whoa, whoa!)
I can't believe we almost hung it up (whoa, whoa!)
We're just getting started (whoa, whoa!)
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You stood there smiling, taking a breath letting the crowd think you were done before you jumped off the drum stage singing the final line of the song.
I can't believe we almost hung it up!(whoa whoa)
We're just getting started! (whoa whoa)
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
You dropped to your knees as you held the final verse as the lights went out sending the crowd into a fit of cheers and screams. You smile to yourself as you hold the microphone in your lap. The lights come back on letting you see the crowd still cheering you on. The surreal feeling you had was causing your heart to sing and you were pretty sure you saw a sign off in the distance of the audience that let you know your mother was proud of you. Composing yourself, you finished the night with 6 more songs.
“Thank you guys for coming out to support a small band from this sleepless city. We are Paramore! Good night!” You said before running off backstage. You are met with your friends and a very starstruck Luke.
“Oh my god! That was amazing! I mean we knew you could sing but that was epic! Why haven’t you fronted before?” Flynn asks.
“Jackie wouldn’t let me. The band was my idea back when I was slowly getting back into music but I was still wanting to stay back and play. I wrote all the songs and let her sing them. When I finally said I was ready for a shot she threw a fit and when the rest of the band sided with me she walked.” You say taking a swig of water.
“So this is why you refused to join us?” Alex asks.
“That and your style isn’t my style of music. It’s to pop centric but I told Julie there might be a chance of collaboration in the future.” You smile seeing Reggie get excited about the idea.
“And then we can do a country album!” He yells causing your bandmates to start laughing at your reactions. During your laughter you didn’t see a man dressed very businessy walk in.
“Y/N…” Julie says tapping your shoulder pointing to the doorway.
“Oh, hi!” You say walking over with your band to meet the man.
“I’m Eric from Capitol records. Are you Y/N?” He asks.
“Um, y-yeah I am.” You say reaching out to shake his hand. Your friends are eavesdropping behind you while pretending to hold a conversation of their own.
“I’ve seen many bands here, I’ve scouted some of the biggest names in music but the energy you displayed tonight is something we’ve never seen but have been looking for, for our label. Capitol records would be happy to have you join. Here’s my card. Give me a call and we will set up a meeting with the head of the label and get you signed.” He says handing you his card.
“Oh my, wow! Thank you. Also if you don’t mind me spreading the word but I know of another you might be interested in. I’ll send you their latest video if you’re up for it.” You smile sneaking a look over at your friend and her bandmates.
“Of course, we are always looking for new talents.” He says before exiting the room.
“Was that?! YES!” You scream jumping into Luke’s arms. Everyone starts dancing around cheering.
“We are being signed to Capitol Records!” You yell into the air as Luke holds you close to him. His eyes never leave your smiling face. He throws caution to the wind when you look back at him and he crashes his lips onto yours making everyone stop and gasp.
“Well it's about damn time!” Alex shouts as you two pull away.
“Well damn Patterson, if that’s what I get for getting signed I wonder what I’ll get after I tell you I sent your video to him as well.” You smile.
“YOU DID WHAT?!” The band screams together.
“We’re all getting signed.” You smile.
“I’m going to marry this girl.” Luke says kissing you once more with more passion than the first. Everything was falling perfectly into place and you couldn’t wait to see what the future holds for you all.
I don't know how good this is, it sounded good and looked good when I was writing so I’m throwing caution to the wind and going for it.
@parkeret I promised I’d tag you in my first one, I hope it doesn't suck!
@issaxcharlie thank you for also pushing me to do this as well!

I.... Wanna talk about Bobby and his... Ehh, "friendship" with the boys, Bobby's feelings about his place in the band, and their feelings about him postmortem.
So in Whatever Happens, Luke was super dismissive of and straight up violent with Bobby for a while there and Alex and Reggie both took Luke's side in the Emily argument and were literally just casually betting on whether Luke was about to clobber Bobby, Reggie straight up said Bobby's not that good at guitar, Luke only sat next to him in the van not because he wanted to, but because with Reggie being Reggie, he had no other choice and he was ignoring Bobby for his journal, and with Bobby, who is probably the only one that can both drive and owns a vehicle, Sunset Curve looks like a "real" band. Bobby said he felt like he wasn't really a part of the band or their friendship and knew he wasn't as good as Luke at guitar.
In We Got The Music, Julie hates him for stealing Luke's songs and questions if they were really friends, Luke says Bobby sucks at rhyming and karma's going to get him, the guys made a list of haunting ideas, they all agree Bobby's unforgivable, and they drew devil horns and a tail on him.
In The Edge Of Great, Luke describes Bobby-Trevor as "greasy-haired" when they go to the mansion. He's doing the absolute most to mess with Bobby, traumatizing him in the process. Then when Julie shows up, Luke admits he's already more concerned with her and her happiness and trust in them than he is with anything else. But he still wants more revenge, so he asks Alex about Willie, who says he'll talk to him. At the club, Luke says they'll do whatever it takes to get back at him. After Julie quits, all Luke cares about is apologizing to Julie and getting her back in the band. Reggie just wants to go back to the club to eat pizza. When Julie does come back, they all care more about Julie and not messing up again than anything.
In Wake Up, none of them were like "aww, you don't have to get a hot dog. You can just hang with us." and they all just left without a second thought to Bobby and he was like "cool, I'mma hang out with the pretty girl". After they die, Julie never asked about the fourth member of the band and the guys never brought him up, either.
In Bright, (ooooohhh Bright) Alex put Bobby in an entirely separate category to both 'friends' and 'family' because he was neither a friend nor family to them. Now, an argument could be made for that meaning he was putting Bobby in a more important category, but an argument could also be made for Alex putting him in the least important category that was just an afterthought to friends and family. Also, Reggie entirely forgot that Bobby existed until Alex brought him up. Luke says with his whole chest "I'll tell you what we had. It's what we've had since the day we came together. Boys, we have us. We're the only family we're ever gonna need.", like, as if they're not literally missing 1/4th of their band. As if their not missing their other best friend. And then they just had a song about this band is back and were singing and dancing ll around the beach, and then they performed with Julie for the first time, with a Sunset Curve song they had planned to perform at The Orpheum together.
In IGTM, we find out that apparently, none of the boys have ever talked about Bobby to Julie to find out that he became Trevor Wilson and took a lot of Luke's music for himself and the gang only found out after... What, a week of knowing each other? Two weeks, at the most? So first, we hear Alex refer to Bobby as "our rhythm guitarist". Not, like, "our rhythm guitarist, our best friend", or like, "our little brother", just "our rhythm guitarist". Nothing more. Then Reggie says Bobby looks "old", Alex says he looks like "a substitute teacher", Luke instantly hates him for not mentioning them, and Reggie's pissed that Bobby didn't help their families with money and they go to revenge-haunt him. Reggie huffs and puffs and harrumphs about Bobby being the type that wears sunglasses indoors and says he can't stand him. Luke says it's "time for his past to haunt him." They moon him.
In The Other Side Of Hollywood, Alex introduces the guys to Willie who takes them to meet Caleb so they can get even more revenge on him. Instead of doing that, though, Caleb redirects their attention to food and music, doing Bobby a massive favor. Like, who knows what more those boys would've done in a wrath fueled second haunting of their most loathed ex guitarist?
In Finally Free, Reggie was pissed as all Hell at Bobby while Luke just completely stopped giving a shit about a large part of this fandom's favorite rhythm guitarist with a pretty voice, solely because Luke's insistence on getting revenge on Bobby made them miss a gig and it made Julie frown so he was like "Well, I never wanna be the reason for that happening ever again, so." and chose to remind Reggie, who calls Bobby a "jerk", to take Julie's words to heart and focus on the music they were making with her.
Then after that, the guys just kinda... Never bring up Bobby again? He's just kinda irrelevant to them and to the plot until the finale.
In The Edge Of Great, Luke's concerned with Nick's crush on Julie, finalizing the setlist for the garage party, cheering Alex up, and Julie. Alex is concerned that Willie suddenly changed his mind about him, and then sad that Willie broke up with him. Reggie helps Carlos prove a point to tia Victoria and then helps Luke cheer up Alex, then performs at the party.
In Unsaid Emily, Alex and Willie sort of make up, Reggie's just sort of bonding with Ray and he and Alex say they're gonna miss the Molinas, and Julie & Luke visit his parents to make things semi-ok again.
In Stand Tall, the guys commit some crimes to get the band to perform at The Orpheum and cross over. Reggie's mourning the Molinas and wondering if he'll still be with Alex and Luke in Heaven. Julie's morning her eventual inevitable loss of the guys. Then they perform and have the time of their life/afterlives and Julie removes Caleb's brand.
No one cares about Bobby Trevor anymore except for Bobby stans and, in a way, Bobby antis. 'Cause the stans are all like "wtf #JusticeForBobby!" and the antis are like "loooool the guys like Julie more than they ever liked Bobby. Sucks for him."
So now, Bobby is so far removed from the guys and so far from Julie that no one's thinking about him anymore. At all. They're only thinking about themselves and each other, like Julie and Caleb told them to. Even Carrie's more preoccupied with herself and Julie than her father. The only one thinking about Bobby is himself. Even then, he's also losing his shit because "The boys are back. Why are they back. They're supposed to be dead. What's going on. What is my life. Is this karma for taking Luke's music. I'm going to see my therapist, but first I need to lie down."
Every piece of canon content just constantly reiterates that Bobby was the guys' friend but the guys were not Bobby's friends.

Warnings: some swearing Summary: pure willex fluff to nourish your souls (ft. Found Family trope)<3 Words: 1,134
There wasn’t any real reason for them to be in the kitchen -it’s not like either of them could eat- but there was something about it that drew Willie in, and Alex, caught in his orbit, followed. Maybe it was the way the golden sun filtered through the window when it was late-afternoon, or maybe it was the way it felt like a home; There on the counter were a few papers of Carlos’ homework, by the sink sat some leftover cups and a mug inscribed with ‘Best Dad’ that Reggie had found one day and then had just brought to the house. On days where the band practiced, you could hear the music and singing through the air, they way it was muffled giving it a spectral and haunting feeling to it, no matter how upbeat it was.
In the end it didn’t really matter; It was the place Willie most often was, and in Alex’s eyes that’s all it took. They would spend the day on walks or exploring closed buildings, slipping in and out of public libraries and coffee shops to people watch, and then head home, sometimes crashing in the garage, sometimes making their way inside to the kitchen.
On garage days the whole band was normally there, Julie partway on Luke’s lap, Reggie leaning backwards against her so she could mess with his hair, and then Alex and Willie joining in to cuddle or talk, or play games. Alex was grateful for the way the boys had forgiven Willie (despite it not being his fault), and how quickly they had welcomed him in. Julie had done the same when she met him, and gave him a nose-scrunching smile when she said ‘So you’re Alex’s Willie’ and he responded by blushing furiously and glancing at Alex before giving a bashful smile and a ‘yeah’.
And so Willie had become part of the group, and despite Julie not being able to touch him unless one of them was touching Alex (something about souls bonding and the magic Julie had), she was still able to see and hear him whenever he was around and made it a point to include him. It was reassuring, to know how much Julie not only approved of, but cared for Willie.
But, thought Alex as he watched Willie hop slightly to sit on the Molina’s countertop, kitchen days were probably his favourite. It was just him and Willie, Willie and him when they were in the kitchen, two boys who’d never had the chance to love like this before, and who were now soaking up their chance while they had it.
Willie swung his legs slightly and Alex smiled fondly as his boyfriend excitedly rambled about something, his eyes glittering and his hands moving agitatedly in his lap, the way he did when he was trying to keep from gesturing too big. His cheeks were flushed and he looked more at ease then he had for a while.
“- and it’s crazy because scientists aren’t even sure that a planet is causing the anomalies!! It could be a black hole, or a-”
Alex smiled wider and nodded, never taking his eyes off of Willie. He imagined it was like how a sunflower always faces the sun; He just couldn’t look away, not when Willie feels safe enough to ramble, not when they’re both together, in love. Not when it’s Willie, because Willie is his weakness, he thinks.
‘I still would have followed you’
It should scare him, how much he means it, but then he’d have to be afraid of how genuine Willie’s voice had been when he’d said he’d do anything for him, and that’s just something that doesn’t compute. How could he ever be afraid of Willie? Willie and his open smile and kind heart, Willie and his screaming in museums and skating in famous people’s pools. Willie, his Willie.
And suddenly it struck Alex, just how safe Willie made him feel. He didn’t ‘fix’ Alex, and he still gets anxious even when Willie’s there to hold his hand, but... there’s something so magic about the way he can hold Alex’s heart in his hands without Alex worrying that he’ll drop it.
And then Alex was striding across the kitchen and stopping in front of Willie, hands reaching out to take Willie’s in his own, eyes searching, quietly whispering ‘is this alright?’
They’d kissed before, and each time Alex felt shooting stars ricocheting through his chest, but it’s important to him, it’s so important to him that Willie knows he has a choice. Because for so long Willie didn’t have a choice for anything.
Willie’s gaze was burning him, and his expression, so fucking fond and happy, filled him with warmth.
“Yes,” Willie says, and it’s like a prayer.
Alex breathed and leaned forward, Willie’s legs on either side of him as leaned up slightly against the counter where Willie sat, Willie’s hands in his own, fingers tracing across his knuckles, Willie’s eyes staring into his own, Willie Willie Willie.
And then it was Willie’s breath feathersoft on Alex’s cheek and lips, Willie’s lips grazing his-
They were interrupted by the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs and Alex gave into the urge to give a hearty eye-roll when he heard Reggie talking animatedly to Ray, who couldn’t hear him.
Abruptly the chatter stopped and Alex turned his head to see Reggie smiling at him and Willie, seemingly unfazed that he had just walked in on a private moment.
“Ah,” Reggie said, nodding sagely and bumping his elbow through Ray’s side, “To be young and in love, am I right?”
Alex rolled his eyes again.
“Fuck off Reg, I’m trying to kiss my boyfriend.” Maybe his voice came out more petulant than needed, but when he turned back Willie was looking at him entertained, if a bit confused, and he melted.
“Yikes ‘Lex, it’s a good thing hanging with Ray always helps me feel better, because your words hurt me.” He turned to Willie and gave a wink, “You’ve got him wrapped around your finger.” And then he bounced after Ray, already starting on another story.
Giving one last eye-roll, for good measure, Alex turned to face Willie again.
“Hey,” Willie murmured, grinning, “You know I love you, right?”
“Yeah,” Alex whispered back, leaning closer to Willie again, letting their lips press together before his words are fully out.
“I know.”
Later they will go out to the garage, hand in hand, and join Julie in teasing Luke about some small thing, and Reggie will sprawl across their collective laps and Julie will tell them a story about when she was a kid. Later they will go, and be with other people, but for now it's just them.
Alex and Willie, Willie and Alex.
