Die Mer de Glace, zu Deutsch "Meer aus Eis", ist zweifelsohne eines der Naturwunder Europas. Diese majestätische Gletscherzunge erstreckt sich über etwa 7 Kilometer im Mont-Blanc-Massiv der französischen Alpen und fasziniert jedes Jahr Tausende von Besuchern aus der ganzen Welt.

Eine Reise ins Herz des Gletschers

Um die Mer de Glace zu erreichen, steigen Abenteurer in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in die Zahnradbahn "Train du Montenvers". Die Fahrt führt durch eine malerische Landschaft mit Blick auf schneebedeckte Gipfel und tiefe Täler. Am Bahnhof Montenvers angekommen, erwartet die Besucher ein Panoramablick auf das Mont-Blanc-Massiv.

Die Eishöhle

Mer de Glace - Das Tal Von hier aus bringt eine Seilbahn die Gäste zur Gletscherzunge hinunter. Doch der eigentliche Höhepunkt ist der Abstieg zum Gletscher selbst. Mutige Abenteurer können die 400 Stufen der "Echelle des Sarrasins" hinabsteigen, um auf das Eis zu gelangen. Die Geheimnisse der Eishöhle

Ein weiteres beeindruckendes Merkmal der Mer de Glace ist die Eishöhle, die jedes Jahr von Juni bis September in das Eis des Gletschers geschnitten wird. Diese unterirdische Wunderwelt offenbart faszinierende Eisformationen und Skulpturen, die von den Kräften der Natur geformt wurden. Der Besuch der Eishöhle ist eine Reise in eine andere Welt und bietet eine willkommene Abkühlung an heißen Sommertagen. TIPP Mer de Glace - was soll ich Dir sagen? Für mich persönlich ist dieser Ort einfach nur überdimensional der reine Wahnsinn. Zum Einen ist es die Naturgewalt die Dir entgegenschlägt. Die extrem hohen Berge (auch wenn man ihn von dort direkt nicht sehen kann, so ist er trotzdem gefühlt immer da - der Mont Blanc mit seinen 4.809 Metern) und das tiefe Tal, welches vom Gletscher geformt wurde. Zum Anderen die Vorstellung, dass das - so wie es heute ist - bald nicht mehr sein wird. Die Folgen davon werden gewaltig sein, denn das Schmelzwasser wird Jahr für Jahr dringend gebraucht. Auch der Dauerfrostboden wird sich in den Geröllwüsten auflösen und zu Erdrutschen führen. Dennoch ist diese Landschaft rund um den Mont Blanc definitiv eine Reise wert. Fahre am besten mit der Zahnradbahn von Charmonix nach Montenvers. Nimm Dir viel Zeit mit, um die Eishöhle zu besichtigen und evtl. zurück zu laufen (ca. 2 Stunden dauert der Abstieg, aber bitte mit richtigem Schuhwerk).

Klimawandel und Umweltschutz

Leider ist die Mer de Glace, wie viele Gletscher weltweit, vom Klimawandel bedroht. Der Rückgang des Gletschers ist ein sichtbares Zeichen für die Veränderungen unseres Planeten. Umweltschützer und Wissenschaftler setzen sich daher für den Schutz und die Erhaltung dieses Naturwunders ein. Der Besuch der Mer de Glace sensibilisiert nicht nur für die Schönheit der Natur, sondern auch für die Notwendigkeit des Umweltschutzes. La photo avant derniere est un truc de dingue ou non? Einmal 2,8 km in die Höhe bitte ..... das haut mich immer noch um, den ihr müsst euch vorstellen das es zwar mittendrin eine Station gibt von Charmonix auf die Aiguille du Midi, aber danach geht es von 2,3 km Höhe auf sage und schreibe 3,8 km Höhe ohne irgendeine Stütze, Planke oder Halterung die das Seil stabilisiert. Das heisst 1500 Meter geht es in die Höhe ab der Zwischenstation. Ihr könnt euch den Druck in den Ohren nicht vorstellen beim wieder absteigen. 

Gedrängt in diese Kabine in der 50 Personen stehen wie die Ölsardinen bekommt man Claustrophobie und gleichzeitig Akrophobie vielleicht auch Agoraphobie (keine Übertreibung) 

Und dann .... aus der Kabine habe ich mitten während der Fahrt auf einmal einen Knall gehört. Mein erster Gedanke ... wir werden sterben. Naja gut bis der Typ mir gegenüber meinte das wohl eine Chipstüte wegen des Drucks geplatzt sein könnte. Sobald sich die Türen geöffnet hatten bin ich schnell raus, puh endlich wieder soliden Boden unter den Füssen. Von hier aus lässt sich die Aussicht viel besser geniessen.

Bei meiner Tour in der Station kommt mir eine Idee für den Sommer den ich ja wieder in Chatel verbringen will. Warum nicht einmal auf den Mont Blanc steigen? immerhin ist er gut erschlossen und im Endeffekt sind es von hier nur (noch) 1000 Höhenmeter zurückzulegen. Also warum nicht ....

soothe: what's one thing that always makes you feel better when you're upset?

That is kind of difficult, because it does depend a lot. Something to absorb my mind usually helps - a video game or a book if I’m feeling well enough, maybe a show if I’m not, or just taking a fricking nap.

Hugs are usually pretty great, though.

ponder: what do you want to do with your life?

I’m still working on this one, really. Right now, I want to get to a place in my life where I can work out what I want to do; a place where I can balance work and health and life in a sustainable way, rather than a massive imbalance where everything is spiralling downhill. So that’s what I would want now.

Longer-term - I’d like to be involved with some sorts of advocacy or support. I’d like to develop my writing and learn to draw. I’d like to know and befriend and love more and more people. I’d like a cat. Or two cats. And maybe some hens. And maybe a goat or two. And... look don’t @ me I love animals.

waxing: what is your proudest accomplishment?

Straight up, my proudest accomplishment is leaving home at 18 and surviving all the shit before and after that. I know that sounds kind of cheesy, and that most people have better accomplishments than just ‘staying alive’, but a lot of shit has been so hard and so ridiculous and I am in fact proud of myself for keeping going and managing it all.
