What I loved sm about OBX Season 3 (aside from the character development and how we were FED when it comes to jiara) is that everyone is paired off in a way that’s actually comfortable!

The biggest appeal and trope of OBX is found family but by pairing them off they’ve just opened up my avenues for different types of love. Each character has met their counterpart- A person who perfectly compliments them without disrupting the overall group dynamic.

Sure, for JJ and Kiara they had been right next to each other all along but it took a push for them to actually take that step and it was them valuing their friendship over everything else that clearly bridged that gap because when you start dating your best friend- If you do it right, it should be like nothing and everything has changed all at once.

-And for John B and Sarah it was clear that they both needed someone that was equal parts as crazy as the other but with a notable difference to help them shake off the tunnel vision that they both had. Sarah may have needed to get out of the bubble wrap but John B needed to learn that not everyone in the world was out to get him. It’s clear that individually they were so different and yet had core similarities and a need to be understood (which is a running theme amongst the pogues, I’ll admit)

The interesting thing about Pope and Chloe is that they planted seeds of it in S2 but allowed for so much growth in season S3 that we actually got to see it come to fruition very similarly to jiara except where JJ had to learn that he could be loved and Kiara had to keep fighting to make him aware of that; Chloe and Pope grew in a different way, they started off their friendship by swearing off love forever and without that pressure or insinuation of a potential relationship; they actually got the chance to explore their feelings. Chloe got to learn what it was like to actually live a life and not have to focus on survival while Pope not only got to help her experience that but he gained someone he could lean on aside from his childhood friends.

There’s so much character growth in this season that extends to their relationships but I also really enjoy how non of the pair offs felt forced, like how the Didnt just shove Cleo and Pope together, they let it play out naturally and I think that’s swell.

-But I really do believe it opens up so many avenues of relationships in this found family of theirs because you have Romantic bonds, platonic bonds and pseudo sibling relationships that when you put it all together creates something so beautiful.

We were really robbed of seeing more girl talk between Kiara and Sarah and I would’ve loved to see Chloe get in on that as well, not to mention the JJ & John B sibling dynamic that we only got glimpses of this season.

I definitely missed a lot of the group interactions but I think it’ll be extremely interesting to see how they all grow together and interact in season 4!

i think we’ve all experienced a show cancelled after a cliffhanger (supah ninjas, spinning out, clone high, happyland, the nine lives of chloe king, etc.), as well as a show rushed to its end BECAUSE it’s getting cancelled (the nine live of chloe king [through the movie script i mean], timeless, etc.).

but when it comes down to it, i think i’d much rather have a cancelled show that had plans for the future than a rushed ending to tie up loose ends.

while i have zero worries about outer banks getting renewed—okay, like 12% worry, 82% sure—the creators can easily envision four seasons. they have ideas for four seasons already.

think of gravity falls. everyone wanted another season, but alex hirsch knew the story ended after two. that’s dedication to the tale he told and not to greed.

i’d much rather have something planned out from the beginning than a haphazardly thrown together ending that makes no sense. i value the plot over presents tied up w pretty little bows.

September prompts — 5. Lighthouse ; Barry

A/n: y/n has a name in this one & is dedicated to my brown + POC/WOC readers (but not particularly descriptive) that are in Barry’s lane 😆

Barry didn’t know what shit you were playing at but he had time today. You were Pope’s older cousin who came down here from Virginia back in June and somehow he got hooked. He already felt some type of way given the fact that you were related to the enemy but he forgot about that every time he was found himself between your legs.

You decided to give him some space and it’s been three days. In a sense he still felt like you cracked first but those text messages and phone calls would certainly show different. He got pissed off at you because of…you go ahead and guess one of those reasons…did you guess yet? Fucking country club was in your face, most likely high off of his ass attempting to flirt with you on his property—which you found humorous more than anything.

Barry? Not so much. At first you weren’t really giving anybody the time of day since your stay here in the obx was supposed to be temporary. You were supposed to be returning back home to Virginia back to university at the end of summer but you were unsure of what you wanted to do now. At least you were questioning it and it was not just because of Barry. You were smarter than that, to get wrapped up in some dude your sisters were convinced smelled like hot dog water…but school’s always been a drag.

The outerbanks seemed to give you some sort of everlasting excitement that felt better than what you felt back home. You only had two weeks left to come to terms with what you wanted to do. Would you go back and push through with school? Would you go back, drop out and find something else to do with your time, since there was no way in hell your parents were going to let you sit back in their house and not do anything with your life? Or would you convince uncle Haywood (yes, Haywood Heyward) and aunt Pepper to let you stay with them? Who knows. Fuck it.

The sun was just beginning to set when you sent Barry your location. He was just finishing up his last deal, counting the money before he was sending a text to his connect to see when would be a good time to get more product. Mind you, he hadn’t heard from you all day until now which was around dinner time.

All the text showed was a map of your location and the emoji, “😈” which could mean many things but Barry didn’t waste no time hopping on his bike to get to you. It has been days since he’s physically seen you or even touched you and he’d be lying straight out of his ass if he didn’t say he missed you. You were his drug. And Barry ain’t ever did any of that extreme shit, he’s had bad experiences when it came to his own upbringing but it was just something about Bodie Heyward that had him locked in.

“What the fuck is this?” Barry cut the engine sitting on his bike as he looked over to his right to see a light house behind a wooden gate.

He was pretty sure he never told you this before but lighthouse’s always gave him the heebie jeebies. He sent you a quick text and waited, glancing over at the lighthouse which blocked the yellow and blue skies. He searched the area with his eyes as far as they would allow him but he did not see you at all. When you weren’t getting back fast enough to him, he decided to call you up finding himself growing impatient. He hopped off his bike and pressed the phone to his ear facing the lighthouse as the phone rung.

By the fifth ring you picked up, “yes?”

“Where you at? You can’t send me a location and not be anywhere to be found.”

You cooed, “Aw is bartholomew excited to see little ‘ol me?”

“Cut the shit, boe. Tell me where you are or I’m leavin’, I’m hungry.” He demanded just as he rubbed his tummy which growled.

You laughed, “I’ve got something for you to eat,” You answered which made Barry lick his lips at the thought, “put your big boy pants on and go through the gate and come find me then.”

Barry clenched his eyes shut and sighed. “Fine.” And be hung up the phone before shoving the device back into his side pocket. He looked up at the lighthouse again and brushed the shiver at his spine away.

Here goes nothing.

First he jumped over the fence and kicked up some dirt and pebbles on his walk. As he walked towards the grass that surrounded the lighthouse he could hear the wind and water picking up as he got closer.

Some crows circled above his head as the blue and white lighthouse seemed as if it could fall over on him at any second. Barry lifted his head at the birds and pointed at them, “you motherfuckers better not shit on me, I got a glock big enough for y’all.” He warned as he spotted a open fence that lead to a pathway towards the ocean.

Deciding to head right to the pathway, he noticed a all to familiar tote bag resting on the fence. Barry went over to it, picking it up and finding a piece of sky blue construction paper poking out of the front pocket. He tossed the tote bag up onto his shoulder and read the lime green marker writing on the front. It had his name on front with stars, hearts, smiley faces, a joint? A gun, and a dick drawing surrounding his name.

Barry snorted with a shake of his head as he flipped it over to read the text: blue, white, and East of the water, ready or not. Find me before I find you ;)

“Got me out here playing scavenger hunts for some p—

His complaints were cut short as a clicking sound that sounded much like a taser made the light house circulate some light around the area. Barry took a large inhale taking in the salt from the ocean behind him and glanced around him before hurrying over to the lighthouse. He gripped onto the latch and yanked the door open before disappearing inside.

It was much darker on the inside with small lights surrounding the walls of the place. It made him feel much smaller being inside of it than outside next to it.

“Boe!” He called out to you finding the base of the lighthouse empty beside some stairs.

The lighthouse creaked as Barry moved to stand in the center of it, his head turning to search for you. He pulled his phone out to give himself more light and just then his phone dinged with another text which read: find me before I find you

“Not this shit again, c’mon.” Barry sucked his teeth before moving to the stairs. That was his only option and there were a lot of damn stairs.

He breathed as he held onto the railing eyeing how the stairs seemed to twist and turn just to get to the top. That’s where you had to be there was only one balcony from the outside and it had to be up where the higher man was chilling. Barry started jogging up the stairs but find himself halting as he got to the second set, it felt like the lighthouse was tilting with each step that he made. This was not safe and not smart. Maybe it was his mind playing tricks on him and he could you that he’d see your ass later on solid ground but he knew you would just call him out for it and he didn’t feel like hearing that.

So he pushed through getting to the final step and panted, resting his hands on his knees as he caught his breath. He leaned over to see how far up he was and immediately backed up as he felt his vision spin. His hand reached out to grab onto another latch and he lifted then pulled to get the door open. It let out a squeal as the heavy door opened revealing the view of the now once yellow sky which was now pink with some stars shining through. It was a nice scent over the waves, sure but did this really require being inside of a creepy ass lighthouse? No it did not.

He went east to the large part of the iron balcony to find you sitting on a blanket surrounded by pillows, another source of light—a lantern, and a straw picnic basket.

“Finally!” You let out popping a grape into your mouth as Barry slowly made his way over to you.

Barry glared at you, “whatchu’ mean finally, scholar? You sent me to the gym just to get to you? Why couldn’t we meet by the ocean instead?”

“That’s boring and this was more fun to see you sweat.” You winked before patting the space next to you, “Come sit.”

The bun wearing twenty-one year old moved to sit next to you with a long shake of his head. Once he plopped down beside you, he quickly shoved you by the shoulder at what you made him go through. You laughed at him, the sound reminded him of bells as you looked over at him, your eyes shined a little different up here.

Barry wasted no time pinching your chin and pulling your face to his lips. You caught yourself by resting your hand against his thigh which made Barry smirk as he broke the kiss to glance down at your hand. He was tempted to guide it somewhere else but it like you read his mind.

“Behave and you’ll get a treat.” You promised as you opened up the picnic basket to grab the rosé.

Barry pried it from your hands and shook it up some before he popped it open.

“There you go wasting my money.” You sighed but not surprised as the fizz spilled onto his lap and the blanket.

“Not not like I can’t buy you ten of these bottles, stop it.” Barry argued, his gold tooth shining at you as he brought it to his lips to sip at, “…yeah this seems like some shit you like. It goes down smooth though.”

You smirked at him going to lay down as he set the bottle in between you to start searching through the basket at what snacks you had for the both of you.

“This a date, scholar? Should of told me then I would have least put on my best gear.” Barry grinned at you, dimples and all.

“You own a pair of joggers?”

“Pair of what? Must have me confused with fuckin’ country club, baby.” Barry voiced as he tossed a grape in his mouth followed by tearing open the wrapper that contained crostini. His second favorite type of bread.

You smiled, “nah, you’re not tall enough to be. Don’t have the ocean colored eyes—

Barry had his pretty brown eyes in slits as you teased him.

“Or the preppy attire, the daddy issues, the nose candy problem, or the fucked up hair.” You counted on your fingers finally making Barry find some humor in your statement.

“That’s riiight, fuck country club. You know what you got right in front of you!” Barry dipped his head so sure of himself, as he stared out at the view as he downed more of the bottle before turning to offer you some.

You declined with a shake of your head, “and what’s that? What are we? I thought we were each other’s summer flings? I leave in two weeks.”

Barry was quiet at that. He’s thought about it multiple times while he was alone getting high and it’s not something he liked to do often by himself. He thought about how different things could possibly be if you stayed. He wanted you to stay simply because it made since for you to—in his mind. Maybe that was selfish but it’s not like he gave a damn. He hasn’t felt this way about anybody in a long time. Sure you were a minor pain in his butt but he liked you. No doubt.

“I’m not one for this mushy shit, boe. You know that and we both agreed not to put labels on this.” Barry motioned between you two which you nodded, keeping your gaze up and away.

You sighed. This was true. When you first started to hook up it just made perfect sense to not get attached. You were only popping in for a season and Barry didn’t do significant others. Why did feelings have to start? You just wanted to know if you meant something more is all but that shouldn’t have mattered. You broke that promise.

“But—since not only did you bring me up here for this cute shit, I can honestly say I wouldn’t mind calling you mine, scholar. Full time.” Barry peered over at you, his eyes half lidded now.

The rosé was getting to him maybe?

“Is that your way of asking me out, bartholomew?” You sat up smirking at the dark haired guy you had feelings for.

Barry shrugged, “it’s whatever you want it to mean—

In short, yes. He was falling for you too.

It was your turn to kiss him now. Barry placed the bottle to the side as he worked his tongue into your mouth, shoving the basket out of the way to put his body on yours. Your head thudded against the blanket, missing the pillow just by a smidge. You winced and Barry broke the kiss with a laugh, “c’mon now scholar, I thought you were the smart one?”

“Fuck you.” You laughed, moving your slightly sore head to rest against the pillow and wrapping your legs around Barry’s waist.

“Comfy?” He asked.

You nodded.

“Good because a man’s gotta eat.” He muttered before connecting your lips again.

And as the both of you managed to get frisky in the air at the lighthouse, your eyes shined bright pink like the skies with Barry’s lips down south, a smile on your lips…there was no turning back now.

But that could change next season who knows?
