What I think the Black Christmas cast all smells like/what kinda body wash they use:
This came to me when I was smelling my lotion lmao, bit odd but whatever, I love all the women of Black Christmas (plus Chris and Billy) Excuse smelling mistakes, I pulled this out of my ass last minute
Tumblr media
CLARE HARRISON
Tangerine. That's all I have to say. At least when she was alive, Clare always preferred more fruity, pleasant smells that were easy on the nose. She's the type to light "Summer" candles during Halloween. She owns this rather expensive body wash package that came with lotion and a orange loofa, it's probably called something like "Blossom Tangerine Spring" Clare's willing to change it up unlike a lot of other people on this list, any sort of soft fruit smelling perfume or lotion will do. Clare smells fruity.
BARBARA COARD
Probably something that smells more woodish, or simple but alluring. I've mentioned this before, but I think Cinnamon is a particular scent she'd enjoy. She wouldn't get as proper as Clare with the matching lotion and such, but she's got a good $3 dollar store Cinnamon scented body wash she's pretty happy with and uses the hell out of. Since it's so cheap, the scent definitely fades a bit quicker, and in that case she begins to smell more of nicotine than the pleasant cinnamon, but thats okay, she showers pretty frequently. I also feel like she smells lightly of cologne, men's cologne, she chooses to wear it- but only a little spurt. Barb doesn't change up and isn't willing to try other scents, she likes cinnamon and she sticks with it- and if not cinnamon, just natural bar soap.
JESS BRADFORD
Jess isn't really particular with what she uses, it could be simple bar soap or the finest soap in all of Canada, she doesn't really care. If she were to choose, however, she would probably choose more Lavender scents, but like Clare, nothing too strong. All in all, Jess smells like dove soap, and it makes her skin so fucking soft.
PHYLLIS CARLSON
Billy says she smells like hippie, personally, I think she'd smell like tea with a mix of blueberries, a more- mystical, yet nature smelling perfume. Uses really nice smooth lotion, but cheap body wash. Doesn't really care what she smells like, just as long as it isn't bad.
CHRIS HAYDEN
Chris takes decent care of himself but prefers simple bar body wash and then applying a heavy amount of cologne. He's got no sort of body oder to cover, he uses that extra manly deodorant and shit like that, he just overestimates how much cologne he needs. The cologne isn't cheap, but it isn't too expensive either, probably about 30 bucks and isn't a name brand- but he doesn't really care, he's just looking to smell nice. When the cologne begins to fade is when it actually smells decent, it smells like exactly whatever comes to mind when you think of men's cologne. Old spice user. Also smells like a Christmas tree, oak smeller.
PETER SMYTHE
Trying to be serious for Peter and not just say "like shit." Because I fucking hate Peter. Anyways, Peter is like Jess- but the difference is he actually cannot afford to use more expensive soaps. Considering he lives in the conservatory and is a starving artist, I doubt he has money to waste on soap. Doesn't really use any lotions, just uses the cheapest body wash he can buy and he's done. It doesn't really bother him, he's more of a cologne kinda guy than a body wash sorta guy. If he uses cologne it's probably something Jess bought for him as a gift.
BILLY
Old, old cologne, dirt, and dust. Billy of course, being a attic dweller and likely home hopper, can't really afford to buy any sort of hygiene products. My personalization of Billy fucking hates being filthy, and tries to get showers whenever he can (he's not really a germophobe, but rather the concept of being filthy inside and out is something that disturbs him, and seeing dirt on his filthy skin can make him breakdown.) So that's why I say he doesn't smell like piss, but rather..oh? Cinnamon? Yup, he's stealing Barbs body wash, both out of spite and just because he likes the smell, he tells himself it's out of only spite though because "cinnamon is a unmanly scent"
LIEUTENANT FULLER
Another bar soap user, smells like- cop. Little bit of dust, little bit of gunpowder here and there, he doesn't really have any sort of signature scent, but does sometimes use vanilla hand lotion that's pretty strong, but definitely not bad smelling!
NASH
Old man (fr, old man, what your grandpas house smells like, you know the smell.)

I’m still looking for genre clarification for the following books:
Harry Harrison, The Steel Rat
Lois Lowry, The Giver (clarification provided!)
Adriana Mather, Killing November
Anne McCaffrey and Margaret Ball, Acorna: The Unicorn Girl (clarification provided)
I also accidentally replied privately to someone with a clarification question about Storm Constantine’s Wraeththu trilogy, which appear to be science fiction as far as I can tell. if anyone can clarify what would make them fantasy, please let me know! (clarification provided!)
if anyone has read them and can elaborate on whether they are or aren’t fantasy / do or don’t have fantastic elements, I’d appreciate it!
I’m also still waiting to hear back from original requesters about the following ambiguous submissions where it’s unclear whether they want a single book or a whole series (or what series they want):
Emily Croy Barker, The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic
Kira Jane Buxton, Hollow Kingdom
Jessica Day George, Dragon Slippers / Adam Gidwitz, A Tale Dark and Grimm
Rachel Hartman, Seraphina / Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunter Chronicles / Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows
Lois Lowry, The Giver
I also replied to the same person as above privately with a clarification question about Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon’s Bedlam(’s) Bard series — if that was you (I forgot to write down the username, sorry!), let me know what you were looking for!
if you submitted one of these and have a preference for the first book or the entire series, please let me know!

5 minute read - IWD 2023
Labour MP Jess Phillips took more than five minutes to read a list of women killed over the past 12 months where the perpetrator or suspect was a man.
Before entering the Commons chamber on Thursday, she had to add another name to the list in pen – that of Helen Harrison, who was found dead in Yorkshire on Sunday.
Bereaved families, including the newly formed group Killed Women, reacted angrily to the fact that just three male MPs were present for the reading of the names a day after International Women’s Day.
Julie Devey, a co-founder of Killed Women, said she and other families in the group had stood as the names were read out to show solidarity to the women killed, and their families.
“It was very hard to listen to,” said Devey, whose daughter Poppy Devey Waterhouse was stabbed 49 times by her ex-boyfriend in 2018. “And I’m very emotional listening to each of those names knowing what the families now face. And [there were] hardly any politicians there, and three men. So that says a lot, doesn’t it?”
Phillips read out the names of 109 UK women killed by men or where a man is the principal suspect. The youngest victim read out by Phillips was 15; the oldest 92.
She thanked Karen Ingala Smith for her work with Counting Dead Women, which records the names of women killed, where the perpetrator or suspect is a man, and the Femicide Census, saying Ingala Smith fought “every day for killed women to be an issue of major public concern”.
This year a spokesperson for the Femicide Census said that for the first time they had contacted every MP where a female constituent had been killed and had a “handful of supportive replies”, but noted: “We observed that the small numbers listening to Jess read out their names in the chamber has not changed from this year to the last.”
The shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding said the time for “warm words” was over, and implored the government to release the “long overdue” sentencing review into domestic homicide. Clare Wade KC was appointed to undertake the review in September 2021. It was originally due for completion in December 2021, but is yet to be published.
“The families of the killed Women Campaign who join us here today would want me to make clear that lessons are not being learned,” said Phillips. “Warm words are no longer enough. We honour these women not by reading out their names, not by doing any of the promises that happen in this place. We honour them with deeds, not with words.”
Phillips paid tribute to the work of Ingala Smith and the families fighting for change. “These amazing campaigners have made sure that killed women are no longer just a name recorded in a local newspaper. They have made sure the issue of femicide and all the failings that lead to an increased risk of a national priority for the people of Britain,” she said.
Ingala Smith said police still often refered to the killing of women as isolated incidents, which minimised the “extent of femicide in the UK and the systemic nature of men’s fatal violence against women”
“Every year over 100 women are killed by men in the UK, in fact of the cases we know, on average a woman is killed by a man every 2.6 days,” she said.
“[The list] should be seen as a roll call of state failure because whilst every man must be held accountable for the violence he chooses to commit, the state could do so much more to end men’s violence against women.”

Book Blurb: Love Interest is Clare Gilmore's sparkling debut, a co-worker enemies-to-lovers rom-com that proves falling in love is the risk and the reward.
Casey Maitland has always preferred the reliability of numbers. Now a twenty-four-year-old finance expert working in Manhattan, she wonders if the open project manager position at her company—magazine powerhouse LC Publications—is a sign from the universe to pursue a career with a little more sparkle. That is, until she’s passed over for the job in favor of the board chairman’s son.
Alex Harrison is handsome, Harvard-educated, and enigmatic. Everybody loves him—except for Casey. But when the two are thrown on the same project, what they discover about their company might change everything—including the dreams each of them is chasing and their mutual love interest.
Review:
Co-worker enemies-to-lovers rom com between a finance expert and the guy who is now the new project manager at her company.. Casey Maitland is good with numbers, she's been wondering if the new manager position at her company, a magazine powerhouse, would enable her to make her career better. She wants to advance in her career and when her boss tells her she's the perfect person for the job she's determined to get it... except she doesn't. Casey is passed over for the job by someone who has more experience and just happens to be the board chairman's son. Alex Harrison is handsome, Harvard-educated, and good at his job. Everybody loves him, except for Casey. They're thrown together to work on the same project but are discovering that they might be perfect for each other. This is an office rom-com, except it didn't feel funny at all. Casey is angry and made at Alex for getting the job, despite the fact that he is much more qualified than her, she thinks he's privileged and that he doesn't understand struggles, yet she doesn't know anything about him. In fact his father didn't even know he was working at the company, he had just applied for the job and got it on his own merits. Casey was my least favorite thing about this book. She comes off as immature, whiny, and just bland. I really did not care for the romance between them at all. Honestly it was a struggle to just through this book (thankfully I made it to the end) but I wanted to DNF it so many tines. While this wasn't for me, if you like office rival romances give this a go, maybe you'll have a better time than I did.
*Thanks Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
