A gay “kiss-in” demonstration Yonge and Bloor streets, Toronto, 17 July 1976

On February 9, 1976, gay activists Tom Field and Bill Holloway were arrested at the corner of Yonge and Bloor streets in Toronto for kissing in public. They were charged with obstructing the sidewalk and committing an indecent act. Ironically, the men had been posing for photographs for an article on homophobia to be published in the now-defunct newspaper Alternative to Alienation. …
Field and Holloway were found guilty of committing an indecent act by Judge Charles Drukarsh on July 13, 1976, and were each fined $50. The ruling infuriated Gay Alliance Toward Equality [GATE], the Body Politic, and members of the community. The need for protest was in the air, but only a very special kind of protest would do.
A few days later, on July 17, GATE and the Body Politic sponsored a kiss-in to support the right for gay people to publicly show affection. About twenty people paraded in same-sex couples at Yonge and Bloor streets, kissing as they walked. Policemen watched from the sidelines, but did not intervene. The protesters had made their point. — Donald W. McLeod

On May Day 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, professor of canon law at Ingolstadt and a former Jesuit. The members of this secret society called themselves “Perfectibilists.” Their founder’s aim was to replace Christianity with a religion of reason, as later did the revolutionaries of France and the 19th-century positivist. Weishaupt was neither Jewish nor a Jesuit, nor was he involved in any kind of other religion, although he studied and worked in a Jesuit-run university. The Jesuits were a secret society within the Catholic Church. They did whatever it took to protect the church against its enemies, even if it required political conspiracy and assassination. Like the Knights Templar, they got wealthy and powerful and were accused of blasphemy and heresy. In 1773, they were disbanded by Pope Clement XIV, which presented Weishaupt with an opportunity to be promoted as a deacon of canon law. Even though he later scorned his Jesuit instructors, his method of leadership was clearly influenced by that of the Jesuits’ superior general. Also, his adherence to the utmost secrecy is probably influenced by Jesuits’ means. This is why some people believe that he was a Jesuit at heart and secretly followed their instructions. He believed that the most effective means of leadership was through secrecy. He held that humans’ desire for status could be satisfied by giving them access to secrets. These secrets could be real or imaginary. It was the best way to manipulate people. He believed that his order had to be covered under other societies or occupations. So he looked for a secret society to conceal his order under it. The best choice was Freemasonry. It had many benefits: it was widely known to the public, it did not attract attention, and their lodges were the best means of recruiting. He also admired the secrecy that united the Masonic lodges. About the Lesbian Studies Coalition of Concordia
“The Coalition for the Integration of Lesbian Studies at Concordia was created in 1987. The name was changed to Lesbian Studies Coalition of Concordia (LSCC) in 1989.
The LSCC works toward integrating lesbian material and perspectives into all applicable disciplines, and eventually establishing a degree-granting program. The coalition acts as a support group for lesbians who need to discuss their experiences in a lesbophobic academic community and acts as a watchdog against heterosexism.” (Archives & Special Collections Catalogue at the University of Concordia)
What i found about the phrase
“Straight (NPI) answer: The West Coast Women's Festival (a California version of the Michigan Women's Fest) started sometime in the mid/late 70's and died off in the late 80's. It was basically a long weekend of women's bands, arts and whatever-you-want, and women were the only ones allowed on "the land." (Yeah, I know). Still, thousands of nekked or near-nekked women, most lesbian or bi, swimming, playing ball, just hanging out at the stage... ah, good times, good times.
During its time, it relied on a large number of volunteers to keep it running, including the attendees-- one of the requirements for attending was a 4-hr workshift. The more dedicated volunteers would arrive a week or two early to start getting the place prepped. Sometime back in the mid 80's, perhaps a bit earlier, one of the volunteers noticed all the women that were streaming in Friday evening, creating a huge crowd in the area. Legend has it that she remarked to one of her co-volunteers something to the effect of "well, now I'm just going to smear honey all over and throw myself to the lesbians." This mutated to "Dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians" which, a year or so later, became famous on buttons, t-shirts and bumper stickers, all of which you could of course buy at the West Coast Women's Festival.
I don't know if the original quipper made any money off of it, or in fact, if this is a true story. But I swear on a stack of Cris Williamson records that I heard this story when I attended the festival in '88 when encountered one very cute nude woman wearing a well-placed bumpersticker who was kind enough to explain its origins.” (mojave66 at The Straight Dope)
