The smoke from the wildfires had obscured the #grandtetons when we were there last month, but the beauty was still apparent! We had an amazing breakfast on #elkisland while staying #colterbay village. If you are I the area I highly recommend adding it to your #itinerary They served us hot griddle pancakes, homefries, bacon, eggs, and TO DIE FOR TROUT, and don't forget the Cowboy #coffee With food like that and views like this, it was hard to come back home. I'm looking forward to my trip in October back to Denver. We will be in the city more, but plan a day trip to Colorado Springs to see #gardenofthegods I'd love to drive on #pikespeak but I am unsure if the road will still be opened at that time. Who's been to Pikes Peak or Garden of the Gods? I'm excited! Also, this is an adult only trip. Love my kids, but looking forward to adventure with my hubby. Incidentally, It's 24 years ago this week we went on our first date. Days eight and nine: Since we arrived in Yellowstone a day early we decided to take advantage of our bonus day and drive a couple hours south to Grand Teton National Park. We found a campsite in Colter Bay and hiked by Jackson Lake. Even though the view of the Tetons was a bit cloudy, it was definitely better than smoke. The next day we made our way down to SLC. Monica got the flu so she slept while Albertine got to drive through Wyoming and admire its beautiful clouds (much better than the LA clouds), its winding streams through lush mountains and quaint little ghost towns. Albertine also finally saw a Moose so you can add that to the list of animals we now know exist. (Excuse the dirty lens in the clouds picture)

Not going back to the park this year has been so much harder than I ever thought possible. For the last three summers I’ve worked in Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park. This year, due to personal family health issues, I’ve elected to stay in Colorado. But my soul feels most at home in the shadow of these beautiful peaks. I’m sure I’ll survive the summer in Colorado just fine, but man I miss these mountains.
