Green comet closest to Earth next week
On February 1 and 2, Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) will reach its closest point to Earth (0.29 AU/ 27 million mi/ 44 million km). The comet might be visible to the eye alone. You'll need a dark-sky site. And you can always use binoculars or a telescope to spot this green visitor from the outer solar system. Read about the green comet.

she stares up at the night sky
seeing something new
she stares a moment
then two,
wondering what it could be,
it is a strange color
for a being in the sky.
a child points and wonders
and she spins a tale
how perhaps it is a piece of home
kicked up by the buffalo herds,
the child shudders at the painting
and curls up against her side
safe and warm
she stares up at the night sky
until she succumbs to sleep,
it is gone in the morning.
i stared up at the night sky
barely seeing what i knew was there
i stared for a while,
until my hands went numb
wondering what she might have thought
about the being passing by.
tears began to fall,
the world feeling a little bit smaller
a little less alone,
i was joined by ghosts
illuminated by moonlight
from just a few days
three thousand grandmothers ago
watching along with me
staring up at the same
strange green star
in the same dark sky

Spent Saturday night stargazing with fantastic astronomy friends. Took a few photos using an iPhone8 while looking through the eyepiece of a friend's 20 inch telescope.
This is the comet C2022 E3 (ZTF), a naked-eye comet that comes around once every 50,000 years.
Here's a link with more info on this comet.

Tried to get a look at that comet tonight but too cloudy! There was a gorgeous halo around the moon tho, the pic doesnt do it justice. Those ice crystals made the moon a spotlight, it was so bright and crisp! It’s pretty cold out lol
i’ll try to mess with my settings more so i can take a better moon pic, but i think the clouds were just hazy enough to mess with focus :]
We’ll try again tomorrow to see the comet!
