- I’m going to crochet a tiny rainbow stegosaurus! That’ll probably be this afternoon
- probably another Halloween something?
- probably more embroidered flowers
Longer term (aka holiday crafting):
- a chicken
- a binosaur
- a dinosaur (yes those are two separate projects)
- something octonauts themed??????
- something for my nieces (no idea what though)
- minecraft quilt (for the kidlet I used to babysit! :D)
- oh I might make my nieces beanies!! one a unicorn and one a cat
- a crocodile
- either a griffin, a cockatrice, or a cat in a fancy outfit. I have not decided yet
- necklace chains for some pendants
- four memory teddy bears
Even longer term (aka stuff for the MTH charity auction, which has bidding next week):
- another crocodile (this one will be crocodile Loki)

i dont have an actual name for it but depressed college au is probably one of my favorites. i dont really care for the adults in paranatural and thinking about how the activity club/others might grow up and continue their lives is so much more interesting to me
The Polite Ransacker and the Boy with the Rocktopus
Hey there! Well, look who’s back after a little rendezvous with life’s chaotic rollercoaster! It’s been a whirlwind, let me tell you. I’ve survived some questionable culinary adventures (failed homemade mac’n’cheese), played detective when my car turned into a crime scene, and worn the “bad cop” hat with my kids more times than I care to admit. But amidst the madness, there was a shining moment…
Emptied and moved the shelves (after dismantling the anchors holding them together), got the rug in place, and now I'm working on putting everything back. There will be some amazing bruises on my arms tomorrow, as well as the toe that I crushed. I've got a few more changes that I'm thinking about before I'm done for the day (also still need to run over to my mother in law's place but she doesn't wake up until late so I'm not rushing).
The Hobby: Decoupage (French for "cutting out" ): This centuries old hobby and art form involves using tools such as a brayer, scissors, synthetic polymer brush, sealer, crafting knife, burnisher, cutouts (usually paper but fabric can be used too), and lots of glue. You glue your paper cutouts onto a surface of your chose using a variety of tools and techniques, and then apply the needed sealer for the project.
The Book: Stuck On Murder (A Decoupage Mystery #1) by Lucy Lawrence
The Book Blurb:
"In the small New England town of Morse Point, Brenna Miller glosses over her painful past by watching her decoupage students create eye-catching projects out of cutouts, glue, and varnish. But when the mayor's body is found stuffed in a trunk at Morse Point Lake, it's up to Brenna to clear her enigmatic landlord's name of murder-before his fate is signed, sealed and delivered."
The Project: Decoupage Flowerpot
My Book Thoughts:
I got Stuck on Murder because I have cozy mysteries and to be honest I had never heard of decoupage until checking out this book. Yet I gave great tips about decoupage projects so much so that I wanted to try my hand in this super old hobby that even Marie Antoinette did from time to time.
I checked Lazy Crafternoon out from my local library and I love how cute the projects are and how many I already have a lot of the supplies for and I will say the crafts are very late 90s/early 2000s.
I know many of us feel hurt and betrayed by NATLA. I know this. I feel the same.
Please stop cursing Albert Kim and the production crew. The fact is, he inherited a huge mess that was already behind schedule. Studios nowadays want the fastest turn around possible and are willing to pour money into projects.
But not time.
I’ve said it before, but LOTR is the absolute gold standard for production. They took years of pre-production time to hand craft their costumes and props and wigs. They hired artisans to hand make tunics and chainmail by hand. They sourced and layered real human hair for their hair pieces. It was incredible.
GOT also attempted something similar though not nearly at the same scale.
That’s why both of these productions have such fantastic and realistic feeling costumes, wigs, and props.
Modern studios just want fast turn around. They’ll pour in money but they want it fast. That’s why the modern takes on LOTR and GOT (ROP and HOTD) look like mediocre cosplay by comparison. The stylists are doing their best, but there’s only so much you can do with so little time.
That’s exactly what’s happened here. You can tell in how awful all the wigs and beards look, even compared to the Shyamalan film of all things! It’s why you can see machine stitching and the fabrics aren’t thick enough to pass for animal pelts. It’s why Iroh’s beard looks like it’s going to fall off, and Yue’s hair looks like a Lego piece, and Azula’s bangs are visibly attached extensions of a completely different sort from the rest of the synthetic wig. It’s why Zuko’s scar looks like a birthmark and not a burn.
It’s why the bending, despite having impressive animation, doesn’t line up well with the actors’ movements and feels pasted on. Almost as if the artists and fight choreographers didn’t get to communicate and plan together.
It’s why the scripts are a poorly juggled mish mash of plots, with threads left to hang in the wind while others are so oversimplified that it feels like a playschool version of ATLA rather then the “adult” version it’s supposed to be.
And it’s why the the Chinese writing is grammatically a mess like they just ran it through Google translate.
I have nothing but respect for Albert Kim and the cast and crew that worked tirelessly to bring this disaster to life under these conditions.
I worry about the poor crew being put through some awful crunch time for this show…
Yes it’s bad. But it’s not only bad as a piece of media. It’s bad as an indicator of what studios prioritize now, and it’s neither audiences nor their own staff.

One of the things I requested as a gift once I became an “adult” is a sewing machine. It struck me as the sort of thing a real adult would have. (Like a tool bag with a set of socket wrenches and a drill -which I also own via gifting from other more accomplished adults in my life). My mother- who taught me how to operate her old machine- obliged for my 24th birthday (or Christmas?).
She bought me a “Brother” Sewing machine- apparently its a good one....
That machine sat in its box for two years gathering dust
Next thing you know its 2020 and I’m on hiatus from work and basically confined to my one bedroom apartment for the foreseeable future. I then decided to actually break that baby out to make myself a face mask or three. Then, once i got the hang of it. I was sewing scraps together and calling it a quilt for my cats. I got it into my head to make an actual quilt.
Like the dumbass I pretend not to be, I just started cutting squares. I didn’t really measure or pin or anything like that. I just went.
It was only AFTER I had a lot of the patchwork completed that I actually looked up how to make a quilt. I had thought I was nearly finished at that point. It was a bit of a rude awakening...
It took me sooo many hours spread out over months to complete. It didn’t help that my cats had decide the sewing machine and all the fabric it spawned was the perfect toy to play with
But, I completed the Quarantine Quilt before the end of 2020. I felt so accomplished! ( even if it is terribly uneven and already starting to split in places...)
