I refuse to believe Tory gets up every morning and gives herself a blowout which means the only other explanation for her hair is that after she gets home from work at night and showers she has just enough energy left to loosely curl her damp hair around a headband and then falls asleep

told myself I was gonna crimp the wig a little bit everyday until my curling iron gets here so I wouldn’t come to a standstill on it but now it’s fully crimped and brushed and ready for curling and the iron doesn’t come for four more days why do I do this to myself.

hi I’m a very long time cosplayer (20+ years experience) who has chronic headache and migraine problems and this is a post about how to prevent your cosplay wigs from giving you painful headaches! Nobody likes wandering around the con in blinding pain and so hopefully this post will help you reduce the chances of this happening.
1. If your wig is way too tight, don’t use it. Get something with a bigger cap. tbh I often wear slightly too big wigs to reduce the pressure! Find out what brands and sellers sell wigs that are comfy on your head and prioritize buying wigs from them! I made a big master list of cosplay wig sellers a while back so here’s a few you might not have known about. Arda (and its Canadian and European sites) sells by far the biggest wigs, but I personally find Classe the most comfortable for my specific head. It’s all very YMMV and it’s totally possible for a wig to not actually be too small but fit your head in an uncomfortable way (Blue Beard on taobao does this to me every time), so just don’t buy from suppliers that do that. Also consider resizing wigs to be larger! For wig clients with extra large heads I like to nip the edge of the wig right behind the ear where your ear and hair from above will cover it and add in a little godet of elastic.
2. Reduce weight! A heavy wig will make head pain much more likely, so here’s a few tips on wig weight reduction!
A) if your wig doesn’t need a ton of volume and is already very dense, rip out some wefts in the bottom half. Anything on the part of your head from the ridge where your head starts going in towards your neck won’t really show unless your wig is very short and it’ll obviously reduce weight instantly! You can replace any missing volume with light crimping or light heat and tease, or leave the wig as is for a natural and silky look without the unnatural volume of a cosplay wig.
B) if you need more volume in your wig, instead of going straight to adding wefts for more volume, see first if combining crimping with heat and tease at the roots will give you the extra volume you need! Crimping or heat and tease adds volume and if you straight up destroy the fiber in the first two inches from the scalp by doing both repeatedly, it’ll add huge volume without you needing to add extra hair! When I do this I like to heat the fiber near the roots, tease it, let it cool, crimp the teased part, let THAT cool, and then brush it out. You can flat out double the perceived volume in the back of the wig this way!
C) if your character has a high ponytail or high pigtails, consider using clip on ponytails that you can easily remove if you need the weight off your head right the fuck now. here’s two tutorials I swear by for making a short wig + clip on combination look more natural! They’re in Japanese but easily comprehensible if you use machine translation thanks to the clear photography. They also help with spreading out the weight on the wig itself, and if your hair is long enough, using a clip on with a fishnet wig cap and clipping through the wig and into your real hair will also he lp make it more secure and distribute weight more evenly.
if your character has high pigtails
if your character has a high ponytail
D) when you need extra wefts, opt for sewing in wefts rather than gluing whenever possible. Glue doesn’t seem heavy but enough of it can make a wig get real heavy REAL fast.
E) redirecting the weight to your entire head and not just the front hairline will feel lighter and give you less forehead tension, which is one of the biggest causes of wig headache. Toupee clips sewn evenly around the edges and a Wig Fix https://therenatural.com (the name brand one, the knockoffs genuinely don’t work half as well) can help with doing this. A Wig Fix will also let you use fewer pins to keep your wig on, which is another cause of wig headache. Can’t suggest trying those enough. There are also some velvet wig grips out there but I find those don’t work quite as well, but they’re by far better than nothing.
3) make sure your wig is easy to remove. A lot of characters have horns or veils or other head things on top of the wig so make sure those can easily come off if you need a wig break! I’m a big proponent of using wig glue or double stick tape to glue strands (face framing layers etc) to your face for a more natural and more flattering look, but if you get headaches from wigs, keep that glue or tape in your bag so if you have to de-wig for a bit, you can get it back on!
4) take the ibuprofen or whatever BEFORE you put the wig on, and not when your wig is already making your head miserable! It’s like taking the ibuprofen before you wear the horrible shoes for a special event; it’s more effective in advance.
5) what are your normal headache triggers? Make sure you’re doing the work to EXTRA avoid them before wearing a cosplay wig. Stay hydrated. Keep up with your electrolytes. If you have any food triggers, make sure you’re managing them properly.
6) try multiple types of wig cap before deciding which ones to use! I’m a big fan of the fishnet kind because I’m in agony every time I try to use the stocking kind. Some people find relief in doing pin curls under their cap, and @/battleangelgif on twitter suggested doing this with damp hair the night before you wear the wig. There are tons of methods! Stretching out fishnet caps can be done more effectively when they’re slightly damp and that’ll make them pinch less. Experiment with what you like best to keep your irl hair in place and once you find a method you like, go for it! Make that your go-to!
7) always remember: wearing a short wig is less miserable than wearing a wig to your ankles. consider very carefully whether or not you can actually handle that wig that’s as long as you are tall. sometimes you just can’t and that’s okay! reduce the length of any super long haired character to hip length and it’ll be FINE. I swear. It’ll still read as super long and it won’t be as terrible.
8) always remember you can just. take the entire wig and cosplay off if you’re in agony. it’s not worth it. don’t do that to yourself. If the migraine hits anyway, just take it off.

Hope some of this might help you out! Focusing on reducing and redistributing weight is what helps me out the most 😌 feel free to reply or reblog or message with questions and I’ll try and get back to you ASAP!

A Guide To Effortless Beauty
Makeup
It's been said that the "full beat" makeup trend of the late 2010s is no longer in style, and I agree. The makeup cycle has gone from #fullglam to #cleangirl in 5 years. Today we are talking about my favorite happy medium #soft glam.
Soft·Glam /so͞ft'glam/
"effortless, diffused, and almost ethereal—basically, a more polished but natural you."
Ladies, if you want to stand out among the crowd or even just feel like the best version of yourself, a soft beat is a way to go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rules of Thumb
Keep your brows shaped and filled in.
Practice makeup application daily until you find your happy medium with products. (I personally utilize concealer and setting powder for a no-makeup makeup-baked look)
Wear moderate lashes ( Soft glam usually looks best with lash extensions or moderately length mink lashes)
Utilize a brown lip line with your shade of nude lipstick and gloss to give that extra pop of effortless glam.
Eyeliner, eyeshadow, and blush are optional.

Skin Care
Skincare is the foundation of all things beauty. A daily skincare routine is essential to minimize and maintain blemishes. Soft glam is about a fresh face with a pop of "I KNOW YOU SEE ME"!
Rules of Thumb
I recommend committing to a twice-daily skincare routine both morning and evening.
Make sure to wake up early enough to wash your face and apply all the necessary products before beginning makeup application.
Plan weekly deep cleanse for the face ( I like to plan my mask for the evening so they can be set without rushing).
I suggest buying skin care products as needed and try not to overstimulate your face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hair
Hair can make or break a look. Imagine looking your best, but your hair is all over the place. It's an oxymoron. You should never shorthand your feminine routine by neglecting your hair. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, styling and maintaining your hair is always necessary when executing a soft glam look.
Rules of Thumb
Practice makes perfect; carve out time in your schedule to master simple styles such as curls and crimps.
Make sure your lace is always melted!
Natural hair beauties treat your hair with conditions and detangling as often as your hair type requires.
Create a mood board and set a goal to master each hairstyle.
Deep condition and silicone treat wigs in between each install.
Natural hair beauties master twist outs, edges and ponytails for a polished on-the-go look at all times.

Special thanks to @graceandopulence for the skin care collage.

Not a request just wanted to say I went to emerald city comic con and it was cool and there were lots of cool COD cosplayers. I only really told one I liked there cosplay but they all looked super cool!
Also if I may ask do you tend to buy or make cosplay? I’m an amateurish cosplayer and I’m planning on making a genshin cosplay but just figuring out how to get all the little pieces and details is difficult.(honestly I’m more making it for the validation of other cosplayer since most cosplays I’ve worn have been more or less pretty simple). Anyway thx for reading :D
(don't forget my insta - @captaingremlin) Hello!! I used to sew my own costumes(for Madoka and BlackCat!Diva), but I moved out of my parent's house and out of the country after I finished school, and I didn't want to bring a sewing machine to a rental apartment, so I'm buying costumes now. I usually just tailor them to my needs and do renovations that don't require a lot of manufactured stitching. For example, for my Kokomi dress from DokiDoki cosplay, I sewed another layer of sparkly fabric underneath to make it more sparkly, I reinstalled all the furniture(because the stitches from the seller tend to be kinda flimsy and you need to resew them so nothing would get lost) and added even more crystals and sparkles all around. I tend to be a maximalist cosplayer, so this is my style - as many jewels on the face as possible, ton of wig accessories and reusable details from other suits. It's easier when you have a ton, so if you're going for your first ever cosplay from Genshin, I'd recommend either getting a cheapest possible version(if you're on a budget) and do renovations on your own, OR go for Uwowo and DokiDoki. Uwowo is a bit cheaper if you're living in Europe, and it's much faster than DokiDoki. Just don't order Uwowo from their store at Aliexpress, they are usually 30-40 dollars more expensive there. Genshin is really hard to make on your own, with all tons of details, so you can invest in the wig instead. For wig styling, I just the tiny crimper and a hair straightener, and that's it. Just crimp the wig with tutorials and then decide if you want it to be super fluffy and curly or more canon. I go for curly and fluffy style, since it can cover a lot of imperfections in the wig material, and I cover it even more with accessories. I usually go for non-canon Genshin cosplays from Uwowo and DokiDoki since I don't really like canon designs, so I can only give advice on limited number of characters( I tend to buy every possible costume for the wig that I own, so now I have 5 Kokomi costumes in my closet and another 3 in plans. Also, don't be afraid of using tape!! For my Ganyu cosplays, since I'm barely a B size, I used a lot of push-ups just kinda sticking to the costumes with medical tape, so the costumes would fill up a bit. Also, about the sizes - if you're ordering from a Chinese brand, they tend to be smaller than American/European ones. I'm 47 kg and I usually go for S/M(even though I'm XS in European size) but if you're having doubts, it's better to buy a bit larger and just sew it yourself. Also - petticoats!! You don't have to but a fancy one, just buy some petticoat skirts from party shop, it's literally makes any dress better...and also, please don't forget safety shorts if you're wearing skirts. I was wearing a schoolgirl Kokomi with extremely short skirt while bending over an aerohockey stand and then I didn't understand why there was a line behind me made from teenage boys.... Also - just use lash glue for everything, even if you're sticking something on a wig. It's better than superglur if you want to restyle it later.

My new TP Link wig that I just finished styling as a part of my Magic Armor Link upgrades for Crown! I was going for more of the wispy, realistic look portrayed in the artwork pieces. I want to make Ordon Village Link and remake his green tunic look and already had a wig on hand for it, so I figured I might as well go for styling it now 😁
Base wig is an Arda Wigs Ken in Dark Ash Blonde. I did extensive plucking and ventilating into the hairline to feather it and add more direction to make it look more natural. I plucked and cross knotted the side part. The rest is knotted away from the face to add gravity defying lift to the bangs, and the hair slowly angles downwards on the sides.
I did some light crimping and combing out on the interior of the bangs, followed by teasing them into an anti-gravity poof. After that, I trimmed and layered the bangs and side pieces. I used a steamer to tame and shape the bangs, and a hair straightener to add a little bit of wave throughout and flips to the ends for texture. The final step was going in with several shades of Copic markers to add more lowlights and color variation like Link's hair in the game!
Crimping and teasing is magic, this wig doesn't have any hairspray in it yet! I'm going to try to avoid adding spray or gel to it except to tame flyaways since it's going to need some styling TLC anyway after being worn under the Magic Armor crown. Once I'm going I wear it for Ordon or green tunic Link then I'll give it the full sturdy styling treatment 😅
