Honestly, it's a little hilarious to think about the fact that, seemingly, the reason the watchers chased Grian after he fled the colony was basically the equivalent of them going "Oh No! The baby! He's gonna get himself killed all on his own!"

I've always mentally likened it to an abusive family who does deeply care but the dynamics are just so fucked that it doesnt even matter, yknow??? These are entities that essentially told Grian-- and hold the deep-seated belief-- that he can never survive on his own again. That he has to give up his independence and live within their control, their rules, all to help bring their population up. And theres the additional horror that if he had stayed, they wouldve viewed their experiment with him as a success, and he would've eventually been forced to do the exact same thing to another Player. The dynamics were just SO unhealthy and horrific, and so he very understandably ran at the first opportunity that presented itself.

Idk theres just a very specific horror to me in being chased and trapped, but out of genuine perceived care, because the disregard for your feelings isnt even something that's intentionally malicious. But a cage is still a cage, and losing your autonomy is still losing your autonomy, no matter how good someone else's intentions are. So to me, the Watchers are basically like Grian's extended abusive family, who would try and force him back in a heartbeat if they happened to find him again

#like imagine how much better this season would have been if they actually used misty in the finale beyond THAT moment #imagine a season with ultra-devoted misty utilizes the fullest extent of her citizen detective skills to track down natalie #finding her way to the compound and getting increasingly frustrated with being defanged given the Rules of said compound #when natalies ex lover the cop shows up on their doorstep and OF COURSE she kills him #for natalies sake #even though she never asked for that #but also because hes a cop #so it was for the good of the group right? #then later on in an even more direct attempt to 'protect' natalie she ends up killing her #parallelling the crystal scene even better because we the audience know that killing kevyn was a selfish action #that natalie wouldnt have forgiven her for #but also making it hit THAT MUCH HARDER #when mistys desperate attempts to hold onto natalie and show her devotion directly lead to her death #instead of it just being like a random bit while walter is off killing cops #like idk. i cant help but think the writers were preoccupied this season with making these characters more 'likable' and 'sympathetic' #but thats not what any of us want #i want ruthless calculating ultra devoted misty #i want violent unhinged power-hungry shauna #just. im disappointed but not surprised #yellowjackets spoilers #yellowjackets

thinking about eyrie and love and hmmmm they aren’t…afraid of love as much as they are afraid of the power of love. Afraid of how blinding it is, the all encompassing way it feels and the drive to protect that comes from it. It’s those feelings that drove them to become and imperial—blinded them to the wrongs they were doing even though they knew from the start that what they were doing was never going to protect anyone. Not their homeland, not their children—not even the ones they didn’t know had survived childbirth. (which that is a terrifying thought they bury wayyyu deep down).

they made those mistakes out of a false sense of hope and the idea of doing the right thing, because protecting the people you love is always the correct thing to do. They protect the forest, but more their people within—a duty driven into their head since they were in their early teens. Eyrie loves—they love fiercely and beyond reckoning, but at the same time they are terrified of those feelings. What they might do for love and if they’ll regret those choices later. They’ll have the time to look back and regret it half a century later. Eyrie is troubled and regretful of their past, but they stand so immovable as to not make a mistake again. which means they don’t move forward; they’re guarded, they distance themselves behind a veneer. They fool themselves into stagnation being the better of the options. I don’t think they truly know how to move forward much anymore
