Rainbow Pickles
During Superbowl weekend, I opened my fridge to discover a bag of rainbow carrots and Persian cucumbers that were going bad — quickly. Food waste is a big source of guilt for me, so when I am faced with the loss of perishables… well, I try to make them less perishable. For these, I submerged them in an at home mystery brine and hoped for the best.
They definitely did not mold (yay!) but the result was a tart and salty snack. I refused to add dill due to my own aversion to the taste, so these julienned slices were a great veggie topping for most meals (very similar to the ones I prepared for my vegetarian bibimbap).
The rainbow color of the carrots leached into the juice and stained it a gorgeous pink. I was starstruck at how beautiful these carrots were!
That was, until they sat in my fridge for a month.
People with PCOS often take hormonal medications to manage their symptoms (cough cough, birth control). The way that birth control works is by introducing your body to hormones, which will stop the system from producing their own. This is great when your body is bad at regulating hormones on its own — which is the case for people with PCOS. By taking birth control, my menstrual cycle, emotions, acne, and many many other things are kept in check — which is perfect as unmedicated PCOS often makes me feel so disconnected from my body. Like I am stuck in a vessel that is constantly hurting itself. Most of this can be remedied with a daily dose of progesterone. With the recent talk about birth control in the United States, it is important to note that these pills are life changing for so many people who take them — whether that be mitigating the symptoms of a chronic health issue or by allowing them to continue living their life according to their own goals (either with or without a baby).
This past January, I started birth control again — this was actually the fifth or sixth time I had started taking the pill; however, this dose was a little different — it was an entirely progesterone pill. This came about after this ad libbed interaction (but the doctor did mention strokes with a lot of fear):
Doctor: So it says on here that you have a history of migraines, right?
Me: Yep, they run in my family
Doctor: And you’ve taken estrogen birth control pills since you were fourteen — even when experiencing migraines
Me: Yeah, and they got worse during that period but they said it was probably stress
Doctor (face of shock): You could have had a stroke.
Not sure how estrogen and migraines mix, but apparently they don’t mix at all! So instead, my doctor put me onto progesterone, which is not much different except my body will not absorb it unless taken almost exactly at the same time every day  — which is very difficult for anyone, let alone a college student. I’ve noticed little to no side effects, except a pretty intense food aversion during my period. Which means food grosses me out, as in the smell of any food will make me nauseous. Which is not fun.
Shortly after making rainbow pickles, I was hit with this huge wave of nausea for a week. All I ate was banana chocolate protein shakes and goghurts — notably not the pickled carrots. And I let them sit in their tub for days and days and weeks and weeks, until I was clearing out the fridge a while later. They looked beautiful in their pink brine, a gorgeous hue for the kitchen. But their time had passed, and they reminded me of my stomach qualms more than anything else. So I chucked them.

College Students: 7 Healthy Eating Tips
Despite the fact that college students are under a great lot of strain, it is still feasible to maintain a healthy diet and create a healthy relationship with food.
Start with eating a healthy breakfast, which should include protein-rich foods such as eggs, almonds, Greek yogurt, and other dairy items, as recommended by Connor Crenshaw. Students should eat every three to four hours in general, as longer intervals without eating increase the likelihood of being hungry. Then, between dinner and night, consume a snack. Include foods high in vitamins and minerals, such as spinach, oranges, and carrots, in your diet.
Only half of the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables is consumed by the average American. Increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables on your plate is as simple as adding more fruit and vegetables to your meal. A sandwich with green beans or a crunchy raw carrot slice is a delicious way to get more fruit on your plate. A banana can even be added to a meal. Simply read labels carefully and keep the quantity of sugar and saturated fat in your food and beverages to a minimum.
If you don't want to make any major dietary adjustments, you can substitute water for some of the sugar. Eat nutritious snacks and stay away from high-calorie items in school cafeterias. If you can, replace some sodas with water or cut them out entirely if you can't. Each week, try to get in at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity. Exercise or other forms of physical activity can also be incorporated into your daily routine. You can make these adjustments as you work toward your objective.
Switching to a healthy oil, according to Connor Crenshaw, can also help you cut down on saturated fat consumption. Trans fats, on the other hand, can raise your risk of heart disease. Monounsaturated fats are good for your heart and brain. At least twice a week, add healthy fats to your meals with olive oil, nuts, seeds, and seafood. It's also a good idea to switch to cold-pressed oils instead of processed oils. Use only one type of oil if you don't wish to avoid trans fats.
It's also good experimenting with different foods if you're a picky eater. While trying new meals can be challenging at first, it is critical to make the transition as painless as possible. Preparing ahead of time is the quickest method to avoid junk food cravings. Make sure you have snacks on hand in your dorm or apartment for easy access. Snacking on healthful meals throughout the day will also help you stay healthy.
Hands should always be washed before eating. Pests and bacteria can be attracted to food waste left in the kitchen. Additionally, before eating, you should always wash your hands completely. Make sure your children do the same. You should also use clean plates and utensils. If you can't resist the urge to consume raw food, there are a few basic steps you may take to improve your health. You can also eat organically farmed fruits and vegetables. The options are limitless.
Make an effort to lead by example. Eat healthful foods that are low in carbohydrate and sodium. You should also limit how much time your child spends on the computer or watching television. Both of these activities lead to body fat percentage. Parents should aim to minimize their children's screen time in addition to eating healthful foods. It will be easier for everyone to make better choices for their family if these tips are included into their daily routine. Most significantly, these suggestions will assist you in staying healthy while on the move.
Keep in mind to stay hydrated. Dehydration causes a variety of issues, including headaches, drowsiness, and fatigue. Dehydration over time can cause urinary tract infections and constipation. Connor Crenshaw believes that you may stay hydrated by downloading an app called Waterlogged, which will remind you to drink enough water each day. Also, when you're out and about, try to stick to the portion size suggestions. Also, remember to keep fried and greasy foods to a minimum.
Preparing meals ahead of time is an important eating strategy for cancer sufferers. You will prevent consuming junk food by doing so. Instead, you'll have access to nutritious and handy items. If you don't have time to cook, put the leftovers in a Ziplock bag and freeze them to eat later. You could also prepare some dishes ahead of time. Kale, for example, can be prepared ahead of time and saved in a Ziplock bag for later use. Other healthful components, such as feta cheese, raisins, and feta cheese, can also be made in advance.

Domestic headcanons w/ bakubabes
Bc i can
And I wanna kiss this man so much like why is he not real- 😭😭
Anyways~!
Enjoy sweets!
[Unedited]
Domestic life!
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
- you and bakugou have been living together for about two years and you have developed a... daily routine I guess you could say
.
- every morning, bakugou will always wake up first. no matter how early you will wake up, hes always up and ready to go, making breakfast in the kitchen
-for you, this became a challenge.
- get up before bakugou.
-it was your lifes goal now.
- but you would always lose to him, the tiredness, frustration, and butterflies you get when you see him
- how does he manage to do it?
-by waking up at 4:30 in the morning everyday!
- he also will make you the best of all foods in the world: scrambled eggs, toast with melted butter, coffee, and a glass of orange juice.
- oh, and some grapes with sliced banana
- to give you some energy for the day and keep you healthy you know?
- at this point, he's already eaten his breakfast but will always sit with you while you eat, still rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
- he loves you like this, at your most vulnerable state.
- he never expected to get someone like you. So radiant and gorgeous, even with your messy hair, morning breath, and tired eyes.
- he always liked you best in the morning (not that he didn't like you every other part of the day, this is just his favorite.
- it's now 7:30am and you get dressed for work, brush your teeth, style yourself etc.
- he also liked the before and after look of you, all cleaned up and ready to take the day with a confident but sweet smile plastered on your face.
"How do I look?" You always asked.
"Beautiful, per usual." He always responded, with hearts in his eyes as he watched you walk closer to him and give him his morning kiss.
- he always melts when this happens, his heart beating faster for only the few seconds you lay your minty lips on his
- he loved that you wore cherry chapstick too
- always got him trembling
- afterwards, you head out to work as he begins to pack his stuff, already missing your presence
- you both then go to work and do your thing, that is kicking the days ass with confidence and pride!
- knowing that when you come home, you both will be in eachothers arms once again
- at patrol, bakugou will always play a playlist that reminds him of you and how you make him feel
- and he always gets pissed whenever someone comes up to him
- people usually think it's because he's that serious about his hero work and always wants to stay on point.
- no, you idiots just interrupted him of his daydream about marrying you!
- anyways
- you do the same thing too; listening to a love  playlist while working
- it always calms you down and makes you think of how sweet bakugou is to you
- and how pretty he is
- and protective
- and now you have to delete a whole bunch of shit about how much you love bakugou out of your report because you accidentally wrote out your thoughts instead of the actual topic
- but not before copying and pasting it to a separate document so you can write more abt it :)
- u a fanfic writer, so what?
- you guys also call once a day, usually during lunch since surprisingly you have the same lunch break, so you spend you lunch at the park, while FaceTiming bakugou and telling him your day so far
- you guys especially love the end of the day, because you get to see eachother again!
- you both basically speed home (cuz yall miss eachother that much-)
- usually bakugou gets home first as his agency is nearby (he wanted that because he always wanted to be right there whenever you need help, so is your workplace)
- and he always starts up dinner, after showering and cleaning up ofc
- still playing the same playlist (cuz it's over 9 hours long-)
- and when he hears the door click and open up
- and your footsteps on the hardwood floor
- and he sees your face, so pretty
- AND hot n' here by Nelly starts playing (coincidentally)
- 💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗💓💞💕💟❣💘💝💖💗
- "DAMM BABY YOU LOOK SO FINE" He always yells out
- even when you think you look so tired, dead inside, hair slightly frizzy
- he thinks you look fucking gorgeous
- and he always will, while serving you a nice and hot dinner
- and you both always eat together at dinner no matter what- even when one of you guys come home late, the other will always wait on them
- after eating, it's relaxing time
-changing into your (matching) pj's and laying on your bed, drinking some tea while watching crime documentaries
- you both like them but sometimes it scares you a bit so you hold bakugou a bit closer
- he was the one to suggest this too...
- hmmmmmmmmmm 🤔
- after having your daily intake of crime documentaries, you both set your alarms and lay together
- holding eachother, nicely and snug, warmness emitting from the both of you
- and just before the strings of sleep bring you to a new dream
- the last thing you hear and feel
- is a small kiss on the top of your head and a small
"I love you. Sweet dreams, angel." Bakugou always says, with a loving smile as he looks down at you, watching you fall asleep with a small smile.
- he then closes his eyes and falls asleep, waiting patiently for another wonderful day with you ♡

foods that make me feel safe *TW ED***
Note: I will not be providing calorie counts for any of these. Whatever food makes you feel safe is valid regardless of how many calories are in it. You deserve nutrition and you deserve to feel safe above all else (regarding food).
So hi, I haven’t rlly posted anything about myself, and a safe food list seems like the least triggering information I could give relating to my ed. As you’ll probably notice, most of these are sweet bc I’m an absolute sugar fiend. Anyways enjoy ig? Idk but ily and ur valid, byeeee :))))
🥴Sour Gummy Bears (specifically the Haribo brand)
Idk why but I think it’s bc they’re so tiny, and I can’t eat too many bc of the citric acid. They remind me of being a little kid which is comforting, and I kinda just like the process of chewing something for a while so they’re good. Also ofc they’re sugary.
🥴 Those Big “Gourmet” Lollipops (they’re sold individually, usually at like Walgreens or smth)
They’re big so they last forever and give me the feeling of eating for a while, but they’re not too big so I don’t feel particularly guilty. The cotton candy one is the best. Idk if I’m doing a great job at helping you visualize them but I feel like you know which ones I’m talking about? Idk.
🥴 Sugar Free Jello Pudding
I usually make them with almond milk, and they’re so so good and filling. I never rlly liked chocolate pudding before my ed but I rlly like these idk why. The chocolate and white chocolate ones r the best. The pistachio one tastes like realizing you’re not getting into your dream college, wouldn’t recommend.
🥴 Soup (non-cream based)
It’s warm and filling, and there r like infinite types so that’s cool. It’s rlly bad for you, but I love the Campbell’s canned chicken noodle soup, it’s so salty and tastes like a shot of straight msg right through my veins. Also kinda reminds me of cheap chicken ramen, which is a big fear food of mine so that’s nice ig. Non cream based though, bc just like every other poc apparently, I’m lactose intolerant 😩
🥴 Fruit
I’ve convinced myself that I don’t have to count (most) fruit calories into my daily total so that’s pretty good I think. I do count bananas, avocados, and other fruit like those though. But grapes and watermelon? Completely safe, probably because they’re mostly water.
🥴 Banana Bread
I think it might be a pretty unconventional safe food bc it’s carbs, sugar, bananas, and baked all in one. But I find it fairly safe, mainly bc I used a low cal recipe so it ends up being a doable amount per slice. Also I can pack in flax seed and protein powder and a bunch of other supplements for hEaLtH and pretend that I’m not literally mentally ill.
🥴 Water
Putting this here bc I KNOW some of y’all r not drinking enough water. Drinking water isn’t suddenly going to undo the negative effects of your ed and make you “safe”, but it’s still rlly important.
So yea that’s all I can think of rn. I know there are definitely a few more but i suddenly don’t feel like typing anymore, and they’re also rlly basic safe foods (Diet Coke, gum, black coffee, etc).

A Cure for Insomnia CH.4
WARNING OF DEPICTION OF A PANIC ATTACK and mentions of drugging.
////////
The rest of the day went by pretty uneventfully. That is after Nate lectured you about stranger danger and how you couldn't just walk forty miles in two hours. You really have no clue how you messed up the math that bad or how calling Nate for a ride never crossed your mind. Nate made you promise not to get into another stranger's car, especially without knowing their fucking names.
“I mean seriously YN, you just hopped in their car because they had a dog?! That's literally the first thing they tell you not to do when you learn about stranger danger!” he said munching on a boston cream donut. It was a good thing you'd brought donuts because you caused this man to stress eat...or was that a bad thing?
After you agreed to having better stranger danger instincts, Nate told you things would be run a little differently around the shop. Apparently the camera out back had died on Sunday, which although weird could be explained away as a camera that hasn't been updated or switched out since the shop was opened, maybe even before then too. So unfortunately Big Jo and Nate still didn't know who broke into your car or if they had been looking for anything. But Big Jo still wants to take precautions like the two of you leaving together and in the morning one of you waiting in their car with the doors locked for the other to come and then entering the building together.
Nate also mentioned a few other things, shipping and inventory related, that wouldn't really pertain to you or change any of your current tasks. It's really just to limit the amount of people coming through the back room. The back room was the emptiest you've ever seen when you went to check on your deer skull. You wonder if you hadn't been hired who would've gotten this position and how long they'd be able to keep their mouth shut about the obviously illegal activity going on. But you remember the person who had this position before you had been Bambi, a sweet if not oblivious girl. So, had you not come along the Cowells would have probably found someone else who didn't have an ounce of perception for their surroundings.
The week goes by slowly and with no further incidents. The deer skull has been completed and you plan on taking it to Maddie's Workshop next week to get a mount for it. In the time that you were bleaching and polishing the bones Nate took it upon himself to clean around the shop. Even though he's made it clear you just have to do your task list here, which takes about an hour maybe two depending on the tasks, he's always working on something.
Nate's the type of guy who's never content to just chill he needs to keep moving always chasing that high you get from accomplishing a goal, whatever he's made his that day. He's probably just substituting whatever he did daily with these new deep cleans of his.
Even with the lack of incidents following your car's break in the two of you have kept to the new precautions. Nate even going so far as to remind you tonight that on Monday if you arrive before him you'll need to stay in the car. At this point you think it's less about safety and more about the security of the store's extra curricular activities. Either way you don't really mind.
Things seemed to return to normal, you were back to driving yesterday and after you rearranged furniture in your house you felt a little less on edge. And every night this week you'd been able to get a good night's sleep, which although not too strange did stand out to you. Maybe another thing that had kept you on edge this week, because it meant when you saw a shadow pass by you during the day you couldn't write it off as quickly as you normally would.
But tonight it seemed your luck had run out. You sat on your bed with your sketch book in hand just doodling strange squiggles till your eyes were so tired they couldn't focus. Putting the book down to rest your eyes and crack your wrist, you sigh not feeling tired at all. The thought of a hike isn't really appealing right now, plus if you made a run into the mini mart you'd probably see either Ronnie or even Tim working behind the counter, that thought set your ears a flame. While the night life in Kepler was decent especially for a Friday night in summer, you just felt the need to be alone.
A drive was the best answer you had. You'd just choose a random lane on the interstate and take a random exit till you found a diner or something, order a tea and a slice of pie. Like you were a background character in someone else's story longingly staring out the window as your dreams slowly slipped through your fingers in this cold cruel world. Ok, you'd been joking about that because you saw a TikTok saying that, but your melodramatic ass actually thinks that sounds fun.
Throwing on some jeans and a flannel over you muscle tee, you were out the door. When you were checking the lock you'd heard rustling coming from around the house where your bins were. Worse case it's a stalker, best case just some raccoons. Either way you decided to calmly but briskly walk to your car, locking the doors immediately. Once in you drove around the side of your house, luckily, you assume, you spot the chonkiest raccoon you've ever seen digging through the bins. His tiny little person hands drawing an awww from you even though his demonic gleaming eyes should send a chill down your spine.
Hissing at the car Chonk returns to dig through your garbage. Weird how he only comes on your pizza weeks. Probably has a thing for Leo's homemade pizzas. You sure as hell do, as much as you love it you do save a slice for this little guy. You haven't put it out yet though, eh you'll do it tomorrow.
Having solved that mystery you sit in your car and link up your phone so you can have your driving playlist. It's mainly Folk Punk and Sea Shanties and while most might say it's a weird combination you say it's the same genre just different fonts. You could drive hundreds of miles into the middle of no where listening to this playlist and you'd be just fine...maybe have an emotional break down or two but expressing your emotions is suppose to be good for you. Mouthing along to Jim Bogart as it comes through the stereo you set off on your little excursion.
Just like when you have the urge to hike at night the urge to drive is nearly one in the same. Momentum taking you forward and not looking back as you do, needing to just go forward with no real destination in mind. Tonight however would be a little different you'd stop at the first diner you see that's out of Kepler bounds. Or turn right back around at one in case you hadn't found anything. There've been times that you kept driving straight through morning and didn't know where the hell you ended up. Not to mention you rarely remember the ways to get back after going for so long, and gps can only get you so far in some of the towns that also border the Monongahela Forest. You'd just have to rely on dumb luck tonight.
Unlike hiking, which gives you a burst of adrenaline as you push your body to its limits to move as far as you can and as much as you can. Driving gives a much more relaxed feeling, it's a feeling a weightlessness that gets lighter and lighter the further you get from home. Some may describe that feeling as a wanderlust or nomadic calling, but you've never cared for either of those things. You've only ever wanted to stay in one place for as long as you could remember. Moving around so much in your youth really messed you up, and you promised yourself this would be the last time you uprooted your life. And you've really come to love Kepler in these past few months. You can't imagine how you'll feel next year after getting to know the community more, but so far it's been really compassionate and understanding, a few rocky spots here and there but nothing like your hometown.
Without realizing it you've picked up your speed, you're doing 75 in a 55 zone. Even with no other vehicles around you slow down to just above the speed limit. While there might not be any cops around looking for easy tickets you don't want to risk dissociating at 75MPH or more. That could only end horribly. Though dissociating behind the wheel at all would be horrible. In the middle of shaking yourself from these thoughts you catch sight of an exit sign, which holds the logo for Denny's on it, and the exit is coming up in five miles. Switching lanes you cross over and get ready to hop off on the next exit.
You're pretty sure the only pie Denny's has is the dry apple with a scoop of ice cream. That isn't very appetizing to you, but then again you aren't really a fan of pie, a fact you seemed to gloss over when you made the decision to drive out here this late at night. Not too bothered by the fact, you remember Denny's has a salted caramel and banana pancake which should work in place of pie.
Pulling into the parking lot there are only three other cars, peering into the diner you don't really see anyone so the cars must belong to the skeleton night crew. Entering the Denny's you see there actually is one other patron, you only see the back of his head as he makes no move to look at the new arrival.
“Hun, seat yourself, I'll be out in a bit.” is the motherly voice that rings out from the kitchen, truly something you've only experienced in the south. Walking into a diner in the dead of night and  being treated like a daytime regular.
Seating yourself near the TV mounted to the wall you let the sounds of the soap opera playing drown out any buzzing you feel in your head. The waitress is out within minutes and though she startles at your masked face she regains her composure very quickly.
“I'd like the salted caramel pancakes if it's alright.” you say declining the offered menu.
“Just the pancakes?”
“Ah, yes please. And water's fine too.” it really pays to know the menu prior to coming in. Gives you ample time to run scripts over in your head.
Viv, the name on her name tag, nods and gives you a smile as she spins right round to the kitchen. Probably happy she won't have to run out so many times for just one order or maybe to spend time with the cooks in the back. You remember working food service sucked but the line cooks made it so much better at the end of the day. Even if they said you were too quiet and called you 'mouse'.
It might not have been exactly what you set out to do but this little midnight self date was really nice, you should do this more often.
Pancakes finished and mask back on you waited for Viv to bring out your check,  then you notice the other patron also making his moves to leave. You're sat facing the door so when he turns and comes closer dread fills your veins like burning cold dry ice. It's David, a local from Kepler you briefly met when you first moved. He gave you really bad vibes and over all was just a very skeevy dude.
What made you feel worse about him was when he left town to “help his sister” right after Bambi disappeared. Those in your circle told you she always talked about leaving Kepler one day but you trusted your gut in saying she didn't leave by her own choice. It got made for her, and David leaving just furthered your theory. You look away hoping he hadn't noticed you but unfortunately you could hear his footsteps falter and then pick back up by passing the door completely.
“Hey...YN, right?” fuck he remembers you, alarm bells are ringing at this fact. Why would he remember someone he briefly met months ago?
“It really is you, still as quiet as I remember.” what did he mean the two of you only met a handful of times and that had been because of your mutual friendship with Bambi.
Where is Viv with the check? You'd really like if she saved you from this painful situation right now. But you aren't sure what's worse having to sit here and listen to David tell you everything he's been up to these past few months, like you even care. Or the thought of leaving with David having him follow you and maybe doing whatever he did to Bambi to you.
“Yea so my sister's better now, I should be seeing you around soon. We should catch up maybe do Saturday Night Dead. Does the Crypt still do that?” great a fucking rhetorical question, he knows the Cryptonomica still does it's weekly movie nights, it's only been two months he's been gone. Not to mention it's a big hit and a huge source of revenue for the shop.
You haven't said anything this whole time, fuck being polite to a potential killer, and fuck being polite to this creep. He's just been talking nearly nonstop for the last few minutes. He must really love the sound of his own voice or thinks he's the most charming person to ever grace the Earth with his presence. Since he's not really caring that you aren't proving to be a stimulating partner in this conversation. He really does love hearing himself talk. By the time he's said his own goodbyes Viv finally makes it out from the back.
She apologizes for the wait, had to go on her break sometime you supposed. You take your time finding your wallet, it's in your back pocket but you wanted to stall for time since you could still see David's car out there, you were also keeping an eye on your own car. Only relaxing when you saw him pull off from the corner of your eye. Oh look you've “found” your wallet,  handing Viv your credit card you just want to get out of here quickly now.
You pay and leave a nice tip for Viv, while she didn't save you from that creep it's not like she could've known. You sit in your car for a moment or two just breathing in and out in the glow of the diner lights. Almost meditating before you begin your long drive back to Kepler with all these thoughts of David, Bambi's disappearance, and how it can't be coincidence that David is coming back at the same time that you have a break in. Could you be his next target? Were you just over thinking things? Just blaming this poor guy because you didn't like him? But you've always been intuitive and bad vibes aren't something to ignore. David appearing now meant something.
Just that thought alone put you on edge as your skin begins to crawl. With a few calming breaths you go to start the car and sync your radio when you notice the glow of the lights changed from the slight yellow to a sterile blueish white. Looking up where the diner should be you see the mini mart back at Kepler...how on earth did you get here? You didn't drive! You couldn't have dissociated while driving, you never even turned the car on and you can barely take a hike dissociating let alone do something as complex as drive a car.
It happens before you can register it, on shaky legs that move on their own you are passing the threshold of the convenience store and catching the tail end of a conversation.
“ppened to not feeding into delus...” the voice cuts off as the door shuts behind you. You know that voice why is it so hard to focus?
Something warm brushes your hand and you see someone in front of you. Who is that? You can't see their face, they've got a mask covering their face. Like you but that person is not you. You might know them...Tobais?
“Yea? You good there?” confusion, you blink hard and see you are standing in the mini mart now, Connor standing under your hand, Toby hovering close by and both Brian and Tim watch with unease over by the register.
“...I don't know how I...how I got here.” you register movement in the background but not consciously.
It's the shifting of Brian's head as he looks out the front windows and spots your Kia.
“You drove.” shaking your head, “Maybe...I don't...I dissociated?” in your confusion you can register Toby stiffen in front of you.
Fear, fear, uneasy, breath....are you breathing? Your head's so jumbled right now.
You scan the shop trying to look for answers that may help you but you find none. The more confused you get the more worked up you get, chest rising and falling rapidly. You take a step back or try to and end up falling on your butt. It's starting to get hard to breathe with your throat constricting, you bring a hand up to your larynx.
“..re.....have..attack......”
        “could be o...me..”
“.....pressure...”
Is all you can make out with your fuzzy consciousness before a heavy pressure is piling on your chest and knocking you fully on your back. The pressure is actually pretty lifting as contradictory as it may seem. Instead of restricting your breathing more it seems to be kick starting your lungs to exhale and inhale. With oxygen coming back into your body you can feel your toes and the tingle behind them. You can feel your fingers and the fur under them. Fur?
Taking in a big breath you move your head and come face to muzzle with Connor.  You give a nod of recognition to the dog before lying flat again and staring up at the ceiling. After about ten minutes you're thinking more clearly than before, which isn't saying much.
“Thanks.” you aren't sure who it's directed at but you still mean it.
It's silent until Toby breaks it, “I'm taking you home.”
“Car.” it's all you can manage to say but the message though distorted got through.
“I'll drive it, Brian follow behind.” there is no room for arguing, driving under any influence must be a touchy subject for Toby. Or maybe you're really fucked up right now and just can't comprehend how bad.
You use Connor to get up, he seems ready and no one else makes a move to you. Toby pushes past and holds the door open as Connor guides you, still holding onto his vest with one hand, and Brian murmurs something to Tim before following you three.
Outside Toby already has your keys in his hand, when did he get those? Did you give them to him? Your hand is risen, you must of...how on earth did you even drive like this. Had you really driven? There's a lump in your throat again and you're breathing's gone shaky, god you hope you didn't hurt anyone. You must have been zoning out for too long, not only is Connor pushing your legs but Toby has a grasp on your forearm coaxing you forward.
His grip isn't suffocating, honestly even seeing it there you still don't feel it. Maybe it's because you're so numb, or maybe it's because he's genuinely helping you but you can't feel the pain that  usually comes with being touched. The sharp jab that feels like you've been struck with a fire poker where ever someone laid their hands on you. After he's pushed you into the backseat, more like nudged you, even making sure you didn't bump your head, he buckles you in then snaps and Connor jumps into the car and lays across your lap.
You're shaking, actually trembling as you look at Toby. What's going on? Why can't you figure out what's happening? The brunette doesn't say a thing as he gets into the driver's seat and buckles in to drive you home. That's strange you think, how does he know where to go? You told him right, just follow the road...or maybe he guessed from the other day. What happened to you? Why the mini mart? You were at Denny's.
“This town doesn't have a Denny's.” did you say that out loud?
“I...I went for a drive, a town over...up...no.. north I think...” you start blinking barely able to keep your eyes open before your eyes lock shut. It's sending you over the edge even more in your confusion.
“Hey, hey just focus on the Denny's. What'd you do once you got there?” is he trying to distract you? Calm you down? Or is he trying to piece together what happened like you are? You can remember Denny's just fine, the dull yellow glow of the inside the skeleton crew murmuring in the back, the pancakes you had, and the “conversation” with David. Did David do this, had he put something in your water glass? Did you even touch your water glass after he left? Breathe. You need to breathe. Toby's waiting.
“Pancakes...I had pancakes. Then that creep came over...and he started talking. Didn't like. We aren't friends, I don't know him. I don't understand why he'd talk to me. Didn't like. Didn't like.” finger back to pressing down on your larynx and the weight of Connor preventing your legs from striking out at the seat in front of you.
“Wait, were you drugged?” Eyes flash to the rear view to lock with your own teary stare.
“No, maybe...I don't think so.” you barely feel the pain in your throat right now, this is all so overwhelming. “He left, I...I watched him drive off before getting in my car... I had an episode while the car was off then..” then you were at the mini mart. You never touched the ignition.
“I didn't drive, I never started the car. Didn't, didn't, didn't” Your attack is probably stressing even Connor out now, but this is all so confusing.
You're so focused on the fuzzy events you don't notice Toby bristle. Or how he grips the steering wheel tighter until his knuckles grow white despite his already translucent skin. He might not be able to feel or see it in the mirror through his mask but he's probably gnawing off more of his face. He'd deal with it after he dealt with you.
You've made it to your house and he's waiting for the headlights from Brian. When he sees them in the rear view he gets out but not before telling you, or maybe Connor, to stay put.
It's a few long moments before he comes back. But in the silence and darkness of your car, growing colder by the moment, you start to ground yourself. You aren't calm by any means and you're still very unfocused. But you aren't crying as the numbness overtakes you, you don't even jump when the door beside you opens. With a snap Connor is out of the car and soon you're being pulled from the car, that same weightless touch gripping your forearm. Toby guides you into your own home, and walks towards the hallway looking into the bathroom, the only other door, before finding your room.
Seemingly understanding your catatonic state he sits you on the bed and gives some order to Connor before he leaves the room. And you just sit on the bed staring into dead air as a silent guard sits in wait. You aren't sure what he's waiting for or why he's still there but the numbness has taken over too much and you can't find it in you to give a single fuck.

PARTY FAVOURS | CHAPTER 2
Tumblr media
Rating: Explicit. 18+
‼️TW: Reader is EIGHTEEN! Recreational drug use, smoking and alcohol consumption, deeply internalised self-loathing, very questionable moral standards. Daddy kink taken half-seriously. BDSM themes in later chapters - explicit content will come with it’s own TWs. FIRST PERSON POV.
Summary: You’re Peter’s classmate, a child of rich and famous but uncaring parents. Getting paired up for a lengthy project with the boy was an interesting turn of events and you don’t know whether to feel blessed or cursed when you develop, seemingly, a perfectly normal, harmless crush on Tony Stark. Fueled by feelings of inadequacy and boredom, your life spirals out of control - and you’re lucky your newfound friends are there to pick up the pieces even if you cannot find it in yourself to believe these amazing human (and not so human) beings voluntarily give you more than a fleeting glance and an offhanded thought. And they brought cake!
A/N: Bad girls are sad girls! Always wondered what goes through the mind of a spoiled, rich but intelligent and perceptive teenager? Have you found yourself craving that adrenaline rush, the danger of a forbidden fruit? Okay. That was cheesy as hell. Gross.
Let’s try again. Sarcasm? Check. Vine references? Hell yes! Crude humour? Check. Blunt honesty? Double check. We’re living in a Lana del Rey song, ladies.
The author doesn’t actually condone codependent relationships in real life. This is a filthy little fantasy. Enjoy, deviants.

Peter woke me up at eight AM the next morning like the little shit that he was, demanding I make him pancakes. It wasn’t the first time I’ve had the joy to experience him in the morning and he knew exactly how to antagonise me enough to make him the special pancakes he liked so much. They had become kind of a ritual whenever he stayed over at my house, which was quite often - teachers liked me enough to pair me up with one of the most sensible kids for any projects that couldn’t be done alone by yours truly on her own.
I put on my yesterday’s dress, applied moisturizer and obediently trotted behind an excitedly mumbling Peter. The kitchen was large, beautiful and delightfully empty of any resident superheroes. I’ve indirectly crossed paths with all of the tower’s residents hanging around Tony, but I’ve yet had to speak more than polite niceties to any of them.
Spying a bowl of boiled eggs and some sort of weird salad alongside half burned toast on the counter, I suddenly understood why Peter demanded his pancakes. I strictly instructed the disaster child to stay away from my cooking process and set to work with one ear listening to his ramblings and a headphone in the other.
A set of thumping footsteps appeared behind me as I was pouring the batter for the first pancake. Their owner loudly sat down next to Peter, sighing, groaning, generally making “I’m not a morning person” sounds.
“Good morning, Mr. Barnes,” Peter’s tone was way, way too chipper.
“‘mrng,” The Sergeant grumbled. “Who’s this and why is she making pancakes?”
I turned around, spatula at the ready. “It’s me,” We’ve actually met before, but Barnes had left before I could even come over from my side of the work bench to say hello.
He nodded in acknowledgement after giving me a suspicious once-over. “One of Stark’s science children. I’m James but you can call me Bucky,” His voice sounded rough and gravely, and he clutched a coffee cup half the size of my head.
I snorted. “Science child, sure,” It wasn’t half-bad actually. I wisely choose to ignore the part of being Tony’s. No matter how hot the man was, I wasn’t anybody’s but my own, thank you very much. “Go get the bananas, Nutella and maple syrup, fellow science child.”
Peter scrambled to follow instructions as I plated the pancakes and cut the bananas into neat little rings to fill the sweet circles with. A tablespoon of Nutella, half a sliced banana, wrap, garnish with powdered sugar and pour maple syrup generously on top. I really didn’t see how this could be difficult but any and all attempts to teach Peter how to recreate my masterpiece always ended up in an absolute mess. I turned around to ask Bucky if he wanted any. The look of a man starved answered all my questions.
“You’re a goddess,” Peter moaned around his mouthful, nose smudged white with the powdered sugar.
“Gross, chew first then talk, you neanderthal,” I scoffed, prepping more batter for the second batch of pancakes. I wasn’t sure if everybody would show up but figured it would be rude to exclude them from the sheer magnificence that were my pancakes. I was just that good.
The music in my ear drowned most of Peter’s disgusting chewing noises, thankfully. My second batch vanished into thin air, inhaled by the two males like the garbage disposals that they were. Peter, in particular, ate an alarming quantity of food and I was surprised how he managed to stay so skinny. His daily eating schedule resembled the Hobbits.
More people appeared, this time acting less surprised regarding me standing at the stove. Hawkeye, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and her brother, all of them wandered in wearing sleep attire with various amusing prints. Thankfully, they mostly kept quiet or chatted with Peter - I would have definitely grumbled if someone tried to talk to me. As far as my body was concerned it was still the middle of the night.
“PANCAKES,” A booming voice announced and I shuddered at the sheer intensity and devotion contained in that one word. Thor.
“Please use your indoor voice,” I snapped reflectively. My brain caught up with what I just did so I hastily backtracked. “Sorry, I’m a bitch in the mornings.”
The blonde man chuckled, coming over to poke his nose into my flurry of pour-flip-fill sequence. Then, with all the grace and manners of a prince, he dipped one (1) large finger into the jar of Nutella and wandered off with it stuck in his mouth. With this turn of events the Nutella was bound to run out sooner than expected.
I turned around, annoyed confusion in plain sight. “The fuck?.. That’s gross, don’t do that,” Finding his brother (adopted!) sitting next to Thor, wearing a haughty smirk, finger still in his mouth. So Loki turned into his brother to steal Nutella from a jar. I sighed. Nobody even batted an eye. “Your alien germs are in there now, double ew.”
“Alien germs? Where?” Bruce entered the kitchen with a tablet under his arm, wearing Hulk themed pajamas, Captain America in tow. I was honestly on the verge of breaking down into hysterical laughter. Domestic Avengers wasn’t something I’d expected to see or experience, ever, much less be a part of. It took a moment for me to remind myself that they were people, too, and each of them was entitled to their own quirks.
“America, egg-splain,” Peter muttered under his breath, giggling. “Loki stuck his hand in the Nutella jar,” He pointed at said jar. “She got grumpy,” Peter pointed at me. “Don’t make her grumpy, please, I want more pancakes,” And turned his pleading puppy eyes in my direction again.
“This is indentured servitude,” I pointed my spatula at the little shit. “You just had, like, ten.” But I made more batter nonetheless. I must admit it was kind of cool, seeing the earth’s mightiest defenders so relaxed. And Pete being happy, that was just… The best. I don’t know how to explain it. His eternal cheerfulness was highly contagious.
Chuckles filled up the room, the adults chatting and bickering amongst themselves while they patiently waited for their own breakfast.
“Do you need some help?” Bruce approached me after stopping to fetch himself a cup of tea. It smelled strongly of tangy herbs and honey.
“I need more Nutella and bananas,” I admitted, surveying the sheer amount of people I had to feed. I didn’t doubt the Captain and two Asgardians had an appetite to match Peter’s which meant a literal extra set of condiments was required. Thankfully, Bruce fetched them for me, coming to a stop next to me. “Anything else?”
“You know, I tried making these with Peter and he just ended up with powdered sugar and chocolate all over himself,” I mused, noting the way Banner was carefully observing the assembly of a pancake. “You think Doctor seven-phds can manage to add a few toppings to a pancake without causing a disaster?“
Bruce rolled his eyes fondly, bumping me with his hip. "I’m no Clint Barton when it comes to cooking but at least I don’t burn my toast like Steve,” True to his word, his hands made swift motions of filling, wrapping and plating each individual pancake. They were almost as good as mine albeit more messy. I had lots of practice though. We finished off a batch in companionable silence, sounds of the team and my music playing in the background.
I didn’t notice when I started swaying to the rhythm, catching a confused look from Bruce. I brushed back my hair, revealing a wireless headphone in my ear and he chuckled in understanding. “What are you listening to?”
“Right now? Kings of Leon,” I said, leaning towards him so he could hear the chorus “Use Somebody” currently occupying my right ear.
“I like them, too,” He said, his cheek gently touching mine. His hands slowed on the pancake, a soft hum vaguely reminding me of the song’s melody emanating from his throat. “What else do you usually listen to?”
“Mostly heavier stuff, but I have a whole separate playlist dedicated to mid-2000s bops,” I answered. “I’ve heard I’m quite old school when it comes to music.”
“Well, I am an old man, so…” Bruce grinned mischievously. “But my guilty pleasure is Lady Gaga,” He admitted with a laugh.
I laughed, too. The image of his dancing in his lab to Born This Way was too much for my brain and I hung my head, fighting giggles. Bruce bumped me with his hip again, faking a pout. “Okay, okay, that was a fucking hilarious image, you go dude,” I finally powered through my struggle to contain laughter. “My own guilty pleasure would be… Umm… Lana Del Rey, I guess.”
Bruce made a vague noise of confusion. I took a brief break from mixing the batter to dig out my second headphone, presenting it to him and switching to a song. “This is what makes us girls”. Despite the fact I have never stolen a car or had a close female friend, the nostalgia was real. “Carmen” followed after the first song and I silently thanked whatever deity that “You can be the boss” was taken out of Spotify - I don’t think I was prepared to share that kind of information with a lab partner. An older, handsome lab partner. Wait… Where did that come from?
“I like it,” He said after the song ended and my more usual stuff began playing. “It suits you, I think.”
I groaned. “Really? I think it’s edgy,” Hiding away the embarrassment, I passed him a tray of freshly baked pancakes, occupying his immediate attention.
“You’re an old soul,” He gave me a lopsided smile. I saw a very faint blush tinting his cheeks, the kind of blush that had me wondering about the meaning behind his words.
I gave an attempt at a smile in response, the left corner of my mouth barely tilting up. We talked some more about the rock music we shared in our earphones. I had a lot of 80s hair metal and 90s grunge in my playlist. Bruce was not a Curt Cobain man but enjoyed the works of his legacy, Marcy Playground.
A tan hand wormed its way between me and Bruce, snatching a handful of banana slices and disappeared just as swiftly. “Tonyyy,” Bruce groaned, picking up another banana to replace the stolen pieces.
The spatula in my hand became a weapon as I blindly aimed at the target behind my back. A loud “ow” indicated I hit it. When I turned around, Tony was clutching the side of his face, a hurt look in his eyes and cheeks stuffed full of stolen goods. I stared him square in the face, absolutely refusing to acknowledge the fact that he was shirtless - the arc reactor glowed brightly in the middle of his toned chest. Fuck.
His chest was honestly what I was aiming for. I constantly kept forgetting how short he actually was. There was this one time when Tony had to put his arms around me to steady a piece of tech - he felt huge, hard and enormous around me.
“What’s that for, Princess?” He finally chewed through his food and found his voice.
“For being a Tony,” I retorted. “Stay away from my workspace and wait for your breakfast like everybody else.”
“Hey! This is my kitchen,” He whined immediately, like the adult man that he was. I nearly cried from how adorable his face became, eyebrows scrunched up. “I don’t want to wait! And why does he,” Tony’s finger accusingly pointed at Bruce, “Get the bananas?!”
“Because he’s Brucie-bear,” I stuck my nose up in the air when Bruce’s arm wrapped around my waist. “He’s my science father,” I stuck my tongue out at Tony, seeing Bruce’s triumphant smile. Banner used every opportunity to get back at Tony’s incessant sass.
The gleaming in Tony’s eyes should have alarmed me. “But he’s not your science daddy,” Tony’s flirting was accompanied by a salacious eyebrow wiggle and Peter’s screech of “OH MY GOD!"
It took me every ounce of willpower to not flush. It was one of those rare times that I was at a complete loss of words. Thinking on the spot, I gave a very meaningful look to Bruce - thankfully, he got the gist and returned an equally filthy smirk back. Tony gaped.
"Is this how they are in the lab?” The Captain’s quiet voice leaked horrified amusement.
“All.The.Time.” Peter’s resonating groan was followed by Romanoff’s laughter.
We went up to the lab after breakfast. Thankfully Tony stopped his dramatic bitching when I served him my pancakes, scarfing them down much like everybody else. So me and Pete were accompanied by one (1) happy engineer, all three of us tinkering away on a robot that we were supposed to present in our science class in a month. The focus that was required to solder was immense and our usual banter was missing, replaced by an occasional request for a specific tool or a water bottle.
It took a few hours to get the dirty job done even with Tony’s help (technically he wasn’t supposed to but neither me nor Pete had the heart to forbid him from it when the man looked so content and happy soldering away). By the time I uncurled from my spot on the bench, my back was in knots and my dress had oil stains and holes all over it. I immediately went to the nearest water bottle, finishing half of it in seconds, picking up my phone to see if I had any important messages from my mother.
None.
Just a message from Bruce.
Tumblr media
I tapped on my phone, idly scrolling through the Instagram app, liking some pictures of people I barely knew and keeping up a general appearance of being very busy. When the ringtone started playing, it took me a whole five seconds to understand it was, in fact, coming from my phone - I certainly wouldn’t put something so… Outrageous as my main tone.
Banner had discovered the power of the internet. You Can Be The Boss played loudly, and it played from my phone and Bruce was calling me. I picked it up, turning around, fighting the incoming laughter. “Yes, Brucie?"
To say that Tony’s and Peter’s faces were scandalised was nothing. The boy’s face was such a deep shade of red, I started worrying about his blood pressure and Tony’s mouth hung open limply, like he was witnessing the second coming of Christ.
"Is Tony sufficiently traumatized?” Judging by the breathless tone of his voice, Banner was resisting a mighty laughing fit of his own.
“Oh, absolutely,” I happily chirped.
“Good, keep it up. Come to my lab before you leave,” Banner snorted and then, realising what he’d done, promptly hung up, the tell-tale beginning of a giggle fit abruptly interrupted by a dial tone.
I put the phone in my bag, gathering the rest of my things with a look somewhere between innocence and indifference. At least, I hoped it was - my mind kept jumping between the engineer’s ridiculously scandalised face and the way his mouth went slack, lips moist and soft and plush. That’s a very dangerous trail.
A very dangerous trail I couldn’t resist exploring in the solitude and privacy of my own bedroom, at home.

Headcanons for Inosuke, Tanjiro and Giyuu with an s/o who loves surprising them with sweet treats she makes herself for them? And likes to watch them try it since she wants to make sure that they find some happiness out of it? Love your writing! Congrats on 101 btw!!
Thank you for the request! I must say that I definitely strayed a bit from your initial request, but I hope its still enjoyable. Enjoy~Amanda
Warning: None
(2k+ words)
Tanjiro:
Tanjiro loves when you bake for him! The first time you gifted him with your famous banana bread he fell instantly in love with you (and the bread too, it was delicious). He found it adorable how you stood with hopeful eyes, patiently waiting for his reaction as he bit into the soft, moist bread.
Sadly, constantly being on missions made it hard to find time to make your boyfriend sweets, but he didn’t mind. He was beyond grateful that you took the little free time you had to carefully craft such delicious treats, he’d appreciate it every time no matter what it was.
Tanjiro was leaving on a simple mission, something so quick that he’d be back by tonight. You were asked to stay behind and at first that really upset you, how could you make sure nothing happened to him from the estate? He was of course relieved that you were being kept out of harm's way, but he couldn’t help laughing at your puffed cheeks, “(y/n) its only one day, no reason to get all worked up. Beside,” he enveloped you in a warm hug. “by tonight I’ll be back here, sleeping beside you as I do every night” his soothing words helped ease the tension on your face. “Don’t do anything stupid” you warned, eyes full of worry. “Please, I’m the one leaving and I’m more afraid you’ll do something stupid”. The two of you shared a laugh, peppering his lip repeatedly with small kisses. “Would you two stop being gross, let's go Gonpachiro!” Tanjiro sighed, already prepared to deal with his wild friend. “See you tonight” he placed one final kiss to the top of your hand before joining his friends.. “See you”
“Hmm what to do with my time” you contemplated, perhaps you could train but training alone was boring. As you passed the kitchen, you were struck with a fantastic idea. You browsed through the shelves and cabinets of the kitchen, “I think I have everything I need” you cheered. It’s been awhile since you could surprise Tanjiro with something sweet, so today was the perfect opportunity.
                                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tanjiro sluggishly trugged to his room, one heavy foot in front of the other. The mission, although short, was extremely draining and all he wanted to do was cuddle beside your sleeping form. “I hope she’s still awake” he almost felt guilty for wishing that you were awake at this time of night, but he knew you. You always waited for him to come home from missions, regardless of the time of night he could count on your comforting smile ready to greet him.
As expected, he opened the door to find you waiting cross-legged on the bed, a small box poorly hidden between your thighs. “Welcome Back!” you jumped into his waiting arms, eager to give him his present. Wiggling out of his grip, you present to him a small box that held the yummy treats, “I’ve made these for you, I hope you like them”
Inside, Tanjiro opened to find small heart-shaped chocolate, all with their own little design. Hands clasped tightly together, you watched expectedly for his reaction as he popped one of the hearts into his mouth. His tongue wrapped around the candy, its milky-sweet taste danced around his taste buds as the smooth chocolate melted away. He hummed in delight, swallowing the silky sweet, “Delicious! This is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!”
Blushing, you bowed your head bashfully, “Thank you”. He smirked as he sneakily grabbed another chocolate from the tray, placing it into his mouth. “You should try it too”. His tongue masterfully slid between your surprised lips, the taste of chocolate mixed with his fervent lips were almost too much to handle. You both pulled away gasping for hair, Tanjiro eyes full of amusement as you hid you warm face behind you hands
“That cheeky bastard”
Inosuke:
By far he gives the best reactions when you gifte him homemade treats. From your famous vanilla cream cupcakes to your strawberry moche, Inosuke happily devours anything you present in front of him.
You loved baking and you loved Inosuke, so it only made sense that you combined the two. The first time you decided to bake something for Inosuke, you’d settled on a simple chocolate fudge cake. It was early on in your relationship so you weren’t sure how he’d react when you shyly handed him a slice one night after dinner.
Que a broken Inosuke who was so surprised you did something so sincere for him, he accepted the plate quietly. He gleefully ate the entire plate once he shook away the initial shock and since then, you made an effort to consistently shower your boyfriend in baked goods.
Today had been a normal day around the Estate. You were supposed to be training outside with your friends and boyfriend, but you had managed to sneak away. You wanted to surprise Inosuke with your tasty chocolate fudge cake, the same recipe you followed the first time you baked for him.
By far it was his favorite treat you’ve made him thus far. He made it very apparent how much he adored chocolate, he’d do practically anything just to have a small piece. The childish Inosuke had the biggests sweet tooth that you were more than happy to satiate..
You whisked each ingredient together delicately, so as to not screw up the consistency. You peered through the small window that allowed you to watch the others outside. Per usual, poor Tanjiro was having to avoid your rambunctious boar-headed boyfriend who was always looking for a reason to challenge the others. “Jeez one day he’s going to get himself into serious trouble and then I’ll have to kick his ass” you’d managed to finish the cake and clean your mess before dinner when you planned to give him the decadent treat.
                                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Inosuke you're going to choke!” You worriedly warned your walking hazard of a boyfriend. Not listening to a word coming from your mouth, he continued to scarf down the food on his plate (and then some). “Fine don’t listen to me then, more cake for the others and I” you pointed your nose in the air, arms folded almost mockingly. Like you cast a spell on him, Insouke suddenly stopped eating, mouth already watering over the cake. “Go get it women!” his voice was loud and his eyes wide. You looked back disapprovingly, “please” he added once he noticed your narrowed eyes. “Better”
You might as well have walked in with a unicorn the way Inosuke’s astonished eyes trailed your every step. “Enjoy!” You cheered as everyone around the table dug into their slice. “(Y/a)-chan that pig doesn’t appreciate your talents enough! You should cook for me more often!” Zenitsu commented much to Inosuke’s dismay. Instinctively, Inosuke wrapped a possessive arm around your waist, pulling you into his lap. “I’ll kick you in the face, Monitsu” his voice was low and threatening.
As he continued to glare at the now shivering blonde, you noticed a small stain of chocolate lingering on  Inosuke’s lower lip. “You have something on your face” you teased before swooping closer to his face. The moment your lips landed on his, your tongue swiped over his bottom lip, pulling away with the new taste of sweet chocolate over taking your tastebuds.
Zenitsu’s jealous yelps could be heard miles away but you ignored them for now. “Delicious” you mumbled low enough so just the man whose lap you were on could hear.
One…
Two..
Three..
That’s how many seconds it took for Inosuke to lose his cool, abruptly jumping to his feet, your surprised form dangling loosely in his arms. “We’re leaving” he announced to the room. Boy were you in for it now.
Giyuu:
Let the battle of Gift Giving commence! Despite what the others think, Giyuu is an avid gift giver who always returns from missions with something that reminded him of you. Be it a hair pin, flower, or jewelry, you could always expect something new, which you always looked forward to. Of course, whenever he presented you with anything it was always filled with shaky movement, an awkward interaction you always found adorable on his part.
He was also really awkward the first time you gifted him a sweet treat. When you presented the warm snack to the man, it was like he’d forgotten all motor skills. He simply stared at you like you were some foriegn being, which unintentionally made you feel insecure about your present and caused your eyes to water. Panicking, Giyuu took the whole treat and shoved it into his mouth, almost choking in the process. In the moment it was such a strange experience, but looking back it was probably one of your fondest memories from your early relationship.
As your relationship grew and time passed, Giyuu never really overcame the embarrassment he felt when he received a baked good from you. It wasn’t that he didn’t like them because in reality you were the one to unlock his sweet tooth and made him crave sweets on a daily basis almost, but because he couldn't fathom the idea that you wanted to do something like this for him. Baking was no simple task, so Giyuu was always so appreciative when you showed up with wrapped food just for him.
Recently, you  noticed something off with your stoic boyfriend. Lately he walked around as if cement blocks were tied to his feet, eyes always shifted to the floor as he walked to avoid eye-contact with anyone. The little times he’d spoken to you, it was almost as if you were talking to a phantom; his mind clearly elsewhere, somewhere dark and isolated.
It was hard to pull Giyuu out of that depressive mentality of his sometimes. There were times where tokens of affection could slowly bring the life back to his eyes, but other times all he needed was a silent space to think and a comforting hug.
You searched around the house to find Giyuu, a small package neatly balanced in your hands. When you found him, his back was turned away from you concerned eyes, hidden inside one of the emptier rooms in the house you two shared. You silently walked to his side, sliding down next to his still form. “I’ve made you something. You don’t have to eat it right now, but maybe it’ll make you feel a little better.”. His cold eyes shifted to the tray that was now held in front of him, an array of brightly decorated chocolate dipped strawberries filled the plate. Giyuu didn’t say a word, simply stared at you with hard eyes. His lack of response made you worry you’d crossed a line somewhere, “I’m really sorry, maybe I should have just left you alone, I don’t want to be a bother” you rambled, getting ready to leave the room, fearful that you’d messed up.
You were pulled from your thoughts as you felt Giyuu's full body weight thrust itself onto yours, arms clinging tightly around your smaller frame. His trembling finger wrinkled your clothes but you didn’t care, you were just relieved you didn’t make Giyuu even more upset. “Thank you” his voice was weak as he spoke into the juncture of your neck, warm tears slowly creating patches on your clothing. Giyuu was crying; he had never looked  so vulnerable, never so desperate for comfort. Some time passed quietly as you gently caressed his hair, his warm breath steadying beside you. “You know, I hate that you have to see me so..so weak, but I hope you understand that every small thing you do makes it better” he sniffled, pulling away to gaze affectionately into your pleading orbs.
You placed a reassuring kiss to his cheek, taking them into your hands. “I’d dip a million strawberries if it meant you’d smile” your kind smile was inviting, prompting a smile of his own to match.
The rest of the night was spent together, chatting away any fowl thoughts and sharing the dipped strawberries. You couldn’t take away Giyuu’s sadness, but you will always be there to cushion the blow with all his favorite sweet treats.

nine: the tender machine kindness of daily routines and actions whose net worth comes not from their immediately visible impacts but the way your hands learn to steady themselves in the warm flickering light of morning, years after the candles and the ouija board have been put away
being a college student means having to face up to big, harrowing decisions every day such as should i drop this shirt on the floor after i take it off or walk the extra two and a half meters to my laundry hamper? most of the time i opt for the former, although the peculiar thing about leaving stuff on the floor is that the ratio of stuff to floor gradually inverts itself like a body turned inside-out to reveal the soft, fleshy inside until there is no more floor and altogether too much stuff. at that point, there are no more decisions to make. either you pick up all those shirts or make the walk to breakfast in the nude. given that the dining hall is known to be unenthusiastic about the smallest of transgressions like bare feet and people without skin, i doubt they would let me in. unless i seduced them. but it is hard to seduce a building.
the dining hall in this college is named after yet another rich alumnus who, fearing that they would be forgotten when they died and fade away into obscurity, therefore experiencing a second, more significant death, decided to assert dominance over one of the key facilities for survival at their alma mater. the building is short, squat, and emits a faint glow like a convenience store glimpsed from afar at four o'clock in the morning. upon entering the first set of swinging doors, one finds oneself greeted with two more sets of doors and a choice of one or the other. the left door will take you past an office. the right will take you past two more doors. one of them leads to the bathroom. the other leads to hell.
the dining hall appears to have been built on some kind of slope, because once you get past the first door and the second and pass through the gates of reckoning, the path splits again into two rather grand staircases of significant width and height, which lead you some two storeys down to a square-shaped room with a big fireplace perched at one end. it dawns on you then that this, this place hidden under the great yawning jaw of heaven, is the real dining hall. you squint at your surroundings in mild disbelief while awkwardly fingering your phone in your pocket so that the other person waiting in line doesn't strike up a conversation. the path outside looks flat as fuck and yet the stairs seemed to go on forever. the only conclusion: this building is cursed.
other things that are cursed: unripe bananas, misplaced sympathies, birds with teeth. liberal arts colleges. sad novels. people who end all their text messages with a full stop. the last one is a lie.
wow liberal arts colleges are really cursed though. i know what you're thinking. not this again, you moan in an extremely non-sexual way, dragging the heel of your palm down your face. not him again. i am tired of him, you complain. excellent. this makes two of us. but one cannot put something away until you are sure of all its contents. and even now, days and weeks and months later, i'll be brushing my teeth and admiring my reflection in the mirror when i'll find myself abruptly subjected to the blunt force trauma that is delayed realization. memories are like mille feuilles. a lot of effort to make and a lot of effort to get rid of. and if you take the lazy way out, slicing your knife perpendicular to this delicate, thousand-layered monstrosity, you are bound to miss something crucial.
question: have you missed anything this semester? what have you overlooked; what have you let slip you by? look over your shoulder. do it right now. perhaps you will discover the ghost of your deceased great-grandmother, trying to whisper to you her beloved recipe for tang yuan. take everything she says down. you will need it one day. i promise.
these days i'm not scared of anything in my head anymore. that's the nice thing about having fear manifest itself as a thing with skin and some internal organs (at least i assume he has them. to be honest you could tell me he has half a kidney in there and nothing else and i'd be like yes that makes sense, of course you're right) that moves and walks and talks like a person but otherwise has the cognitive capabilities of a chair. it's like playing an rpg horror survival game. only the antagonist isn't hot.
i am though. and so is summer, sweet sticky-skin summer, though i woke up today and it felt like february all over again. it was eight degrees celcius in the morning; eleven in the afternoon. now it is nine. so this is how it is when one is thousands of miles from the equator. one step forward, two steps back. take ten steps in a rough circle and then four steps to the left. tango with me. chase cars with me. we can chase cars all day. i'll wear your shirt and you'll eat mine.
this semester the salsa club held its weekly meetings on friday at 8:45 in the lounge attached to the dorm i lived in. on one such friday i was playing pool in the adjacent room with someone i don't talk to anymore and another i wish i still did but never seemed to find in the same room as myself. it was my first time playing pool. the stick reminded me of sun wu kong, the monkey king and his magical monkey king staff. or was it a stick? the details escape me. the evening escapes me, too. i know at one point one of them left to join the salsa club. i know at some point i cleared the table.
it must have been the third or fourth week of the semester when they convinced me to play pool, because i said yes without thinking the way i never had before that and never will again. back then i was still scared and lonely and to be fair, i was scared and lonely for half of april and most of may, but these are fundamentally different sentiments. back then i was scared of everything. these days i am acquainted with a more academic, nuanced fear; persistent laughter, 500-word moodle short responses sent over text, fists.
the first time i did laundry in the spring i googled "[my college name] laundry machines" because i had to be sure that the laundry machines in this specific basement in this specific college weren't super fucked-up for some reason and i was terrified that they would be and that i'd fuck up even the laundry, dear god, if i couldn't do the laundry then what was the point of trying to do friendship? i threw everything in the washing machine at five o'clock in the morning and dragged it across the white-tiled floor to the dryer at five-thirty. at five-fifty i texted good evening to a friend. at six-twenty-seven i washed my chopsticks.
at six thirty-five i stood in front of my dresser in my room with a freshly-laundered shirt pressed against my face and a spill of sunlight sliding down the left side of my body. i breathed in. the fabric smelled like flowers. like it'd emerged from the cycle of reincarnation, pure and dumb as a baby. i breathed in again. my hands and cheeks were warm. the birds outside my window were screaming in french. in that moment i found that i believed, for the first time since i'd gotten here, in the transient nature of all things. even sadness. even the sneaking feeling that i would never settle into this room with its shitty ceiling light, which turned out to be true, which was paranoia later justified by truth. even you.
then i folded it up carefully, and put it away.

Quarantine in Australia: Staying in the hotel
Hi again, everyone! My name is Radka and I’m in my second year at the University of Melbourne Dental School. I was fortunate enough to receive a travel exemption to travel back to Australia in order to complete my degree (you can read more about my experience flying back to Australia during COVID here!).
Once I found out that I had to complete a 14-day mandatory quarantine, I began scouring the internet for anything to help me prepare for my upcoming mission. Unfortunately, the material I found on the web was scarce and often depicted a rather negative experience.
Now, if it is of any consolation to you, I would like to let you know that quarantine is in fact not as bad as you may read about it being and I actually had a very pleasant experience. If you are going to be quarantining or if you are just a little curious then please keep reading!
My Hotel Room After arriving in Sydney, I was taken to the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel. My room was just your regular clean hotel room, complete with a queen bed, a desk, a sofa, a clean bathroom, and a fantastic view (I got really lucky with the view!). There was also a kettle to use for your coffee, tea, or soups, and a mini fridge to store extra food or water. There was also a hotel laundry service; however, that came with a fee of $35.
Tip: Pack lots of extra comfy clothes so you don’t have to worry about doing laundry. Or, if you would like to hand wash your clothes, consider packing a small amount of laundry detergent.
The hotel staff also brought by fresh towels and extra toiletries halfway through quarantine, so don’t fret because you in fact do not need to ration your toilet paper or clean towels! Of course, regular guest hotel services were available 24/7 with just a quick phone call to reception, so don’t be afraid to request whatever you may need. I ran out of toothpaste on day 3 of my stay and when I requested some from the guest services, they delivered a few tubes to my door.
The Food Before you check into your hotel room, the hotel staff will give you a form as ask you to identify any dietary restrictions, preferences, or allergies.
Breakfast was scheduled to arrive between 7  and 9 a.m., but it consistently arrived around 7:30 a.m. at my room.
Tip: Set an alarm to get out of bed to collect your breakfast around 7 a.m. so you don’t miss it!
Tumblr media
Breakfast usually consisted of a bag of cereal (cornflakes, Kellogg’s All-Bran, Sultana Bran), a carton of milk, yogurt, and a cold fruit juice. Sometimes we would also have bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon or some banana bread. All very delicious and very filling versions of breakfast!
Lunch would arrive around noon. This was by far my favourite meal of the day during quarantine. Lunch usually consisted of a colourful salad with some sort of protein (smoked salmon, chicken, beef), bread with butter, and a fruit. Since the breakfasts were very filling, I was never hungry for lunch… but I ate anyway. The odd time we had warm lunches, such as pad Thai, rice and chicken, or a delicious meat pie with mashed green peas.
Dinners were delicious as well, but not quite as good as the lunches, in my opinion. I had lamb with potatoes and baked carrots, steak with veggies and mashed potatoes, chicken parmigiana, and lots of different meals with fish and pasta! Dinner was served anywhere from 7  to 9 p.m., but most of my dinners arrived consistently around 7 p.m. Our dinners always included bread and butter, some sort of fruit, dessert, and a big, cold bottle of water.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy most of the desserts. Sometimes we were given lemon tarts and apple tarts and those were my absolute favourite! Other times we were given small cakes and I did not enjoy those as much.
Tip: Bring lots of pre-packaged snacks because you might get bored or you might not like the snacks delivered with meals.
On my very last day of quarantine, the staff delivered a generous slice of red velvet cake to congratulate me on completing my 14-day quarantine. I thought that this was a very kind gesture and was a great way to end off my quarantine! (Unfortunately, my friends quarantining over at the Four Seasons did not get a farewell cake.)
Tumblr media
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how healthy and nutritious the meals were; however, I recommend packing some vitamin D supplements because the one thing your body will be deficient in during quarantine is sunlight access!
When I was craving something different, there were plenty of food delivery services available. My go-to is always Uber Eats, and thankfully my favourite treat (“Poke Bowls” from Poked) was near the hotel, so I ordered them a few times. I also gave the in-room dining menu a try and ordered a pizza. The hotel’s in-room dining prices have been reduced 30% for the quarantining guests to enjoy, so hopefully your hotel will offer you some sweet discounts as well!
The Drinks I was worried about how much water I would be provided, but thankfully I received plenty of water. I was given one bottle of cold water with every dinner. However, I recommend keeping the water bottles and refilling them with water and storing them in your fridge (this way you will always have cold, refreshing water available).
Tumblr media
The hotel room was equipped with a kettle, a mini fridge, and the drawers were stalked up with lots of instant coffee and tea. The instant coffee did get a little boring after a few days, but thankfully a flat white was just one phone call away to Guest Services. It was $5 for a small coffee from the hotel but as soon as you order it they bring it up to your room with the receipt 🙂
If alcohol is something you would fancy, (Quarantininis, anyone?) the in-room dining menu served alcohol until 9 p.m. There were also alcohol delivery options available through third-party restaurants.
Staying busy This is very important because I am sure we can all agree that 14 days is a looong time! Thankfully, time flew by because I made sure to bring all my favourite hobbies with me. I love knitting so I made sure to pack lots of yarn for my quarantine. I also really enjoy sketching and so I would sketch on my iPad. I am a sucker for Australian reality TV too, so I binged watched the latest Married At First Sight (PS: lots of drama) and other fun shows on the 9now website.
Tip: Pack an HDMI cable to watch your favourite things on the hotel TV. You can only watch so many shows on Netflix sideways in bed!
I also spent half my day talking to loved ones back home on FaceTime and having daily workout sessions with my friend group back in Canada! Speaking of exercising, try to move around as much as possible. It’s so easy to spend the whole day sitting down, but I set alarms on my phone to remind me to get moving in any way possible.
Tip: When you are on the phone with your family and friends or listening to podcasts, try pacing up and down the room rather than sitting in a chair.
And don’t worry if you don’t have any hobbies or you cannot physically bring your hobbies with you during quarantine. You can use this time to learn something new!
COVID-19 Testing The hotel nurses will knock on your door on Day 3 and Day 10 to conduct mandatory COVID tests. At the end of my stay a doctor and an officer knocked on my door to provide me with a certificate that stated that I had tested negative for COVID-19. You will need to keep these documents with you because the hotel staff will ask to see them on the day of your check-out. The doctor also provided me with a bracelet that said “COVID19 NSW SATURDAY.” I assumed this was so hotel and airport staff would know that I had completed my quarantine.
The nurses will also call you daily to check up on your physical health and your mental health status. The nurses are very friendly and want to help you, so don’t hesitate to talk to them and tell them how you’re feeling. If you become sick or require medical help at any point during your quarantine stay, there are doctors and nurses available 24/7 to provide you with medical assistance.
Final Thoughts Overall, my quarantine experience was pleasant (believe it or not). I love to relax and I really value my “me time,” so I approached quarantine as an opportunity to enjoy lots of relaxation.
With all that being said, I encourage you to sit back, relax, and try your best to enjoy your two weeks with a cleared schedule, no alarms, no appointments, and no daily obligations. Embrace your time off my friends and really, really try to make the most of it! Your quarantine experience may be a story you will be telling for the rest of your life, so why not make it a pleasant one to tell your great grandchildren!
Take care everyone and thanks for your time! 🙂
Sincerely, Radka

Delirium
Chapter 10
Previous chapter
It’s a fairly long chapter, you’ve been warned 🙈🙈
Winter is here. Snow covering the concretes and roofs, the Whomping Willow shakes its branches to get rid of the snows, Black Lake is completely frozen—sometimes Jens is wondering how’s the giant squid coping with all this cold inside the water. Is it also frozen? Or already move somewhere else warmer, maybe a month before?
The hell am I thinking? he thought to himself. Apparently too much orange juice is doing ridiculous thing to his brain.
He is now sitting alone in the Great Hall, with an empty cereal bowl and Daily Prophet spread wide in front of him; showing the commercial part of the newest released of broom cleaning kit, and spicy chocolate chip cookies. Last night was another sleepless night for him, but it’s all because he’s too giddy and happy that today’s finally the day where he and Lucas will go to the Hogsmeade, together. Of course, his three bestfriends are quite sad that Jens couldn’t go with them, but it’s not long before they actually giving him supports and a few winks.
Just like another human being in love but insecure of their clothing before a date, Jens already checks his appearance in the mirror many times in the bathroom before heading here and waiting for Lucas to come. Part of him is worrying about the possibility that the boy won’t be here or worst, bails at the last seconds. Not gonna lie, he’s this close to believe that sad thought, before the sight of the certain person he’s waiting for is walking inside the hall. Jens instantly notices that Lucas is also styled his hair a bit; making it looks shinier, wearing an oversized emerald knitted-sweater that’s making his beautiful blue eyes pops.
“Morning.” Lucas smiles brightly—making it such a contrast to the gloomy weather outside.
It takes few seconds for Jens to finally coming back to earth and replies, “good morning to you too.”
“You look nice today, Stoffels.”
Jens feels like flying, “you’re not so bad yourself.”
Lucas grins, “well, shall we go now?”
“Let’s go!”
Hogsmeade is what dreamy village looks like. It’s small, secluded, crowded but in a good way, and you can find almost everything here—of course, Diagon Alley is still the place to go to buy any kind of things you need for daily life, but it’s always packed and Jens hates it. The snow is finally has stop falling, and even though the sunlight’s not here yet but Jens takes this as a good omen.
“Would you like to go to the Zonko’s first?”
“No.”
Lucas tilts his head, confused.
“I mean, my dumbass friends would be there and I don’t want them to ruin our good time, or probably making you feel uncomfortable by their presence.”
Hearing this, Lucas playfully nudges Jens’ shoulder, “did you realise that you’re the dumbass now? I don’t give a damn about what people may or may not think about me.”
“So, you still wanna go there?” Jens smirks.
“No,” Lucas answers. “Let’s go get warm coffe first. I’m freezing.”
“To the—”
“Madam Puddifoot’s, yes,” Lucas cuts him, then narrows his eyes a little. “Why? You changed your mind?”
Jens lets a sigh, and without thinking, he takes Lucas’ hand in his and leads the way to the place. For a split second, Lucas is quite taken aback by this sudden act, but he doesn’t mind it at all; instead, it feels nice. Why would it feels nice? It’s not like the first time that someone holding his hand before. Why does it feels different? It’s just Jens. Right?
Before Lucas can process anything much further, Madam Puddifoot’s voice bursts his thoughts. His hand is still in Jens’.
“Table for two?”
“Yes, please.”
“Right this way, gentlemen!”
Madam Puddifoot’s leads them to the nearest spot beside the window; looks like snow is falling again just now. Jens takes a glance at the boy in front of him, who’s furrowing his brows in full concentration while reading a small baby-pink booklet menu. Somehow Jens can smells a slight scent of strawberry cake from it.
“What can I get for you?”
“A coffe and a slice of banana bread,” Lucas looks up. “You?”
Jens shrugs, “same.”
“Will be back in five minutes! But first,” Madam Puddifoot clicks her fingers and a basket full of freshly-picked roses floating right towards them. “Each of you should pick a flower for your partner (both Lucas and Jens holding a choking sound when they heard her), then these roses will speak the message they hold. Have fun!”
It looks like the basket won’t leave until the boys do as they told earlier, because it keeps nudging their arms and shoulders and even heads for almost five minutes.
“Alright, I’ll do it first! Stop budging me, basket!” Says Lucas in his most annoyed tone. He picks the longest rose and places it in front of Jens. “Your turn, Stoffels.”
“Here.”
Jens gives the rose—which its petals look like a rosebud—directly to Lucas, who’s a little surprised. Right after he does it, the basket floating back to its place as if it wants to give them some privacy.
“So? Where’s this message?” Jens lifts his rose and examines it. “Should we talk to it first or—”
“Don’t be stupid,” Lucas rolls his eyes. This whole thing is ridiculous. The message is probably just some sort of corniest romantic joke. “I’m sure she’s just bluffing.”
Much to their shock, Jens’ rose starts to speak out of nowhere. It feels like as if it comes from a tiny speaker : your scent is reminding me of the forest in the night when I wander aimlessly. Wet soil and crisp fallen leaves. Warmth of your smile is like a hot chocolate.
“What the—”
And as if their roses are somehow connected to each other, Lucas’ rose is now speaking : Your blue eyes mesmerizing, captivating. O, you wouldn’t know how much I adore those angel’s gift of yours. Drown in there forever and never go back to the surface.
A stone-cold, awkward silence falls between them. Both looking anywhere and everywhere but at each other. Lucas is suddenly no longer feeling cold or even had guts to eat his warm banana bread, while Jens absentmindedly whistling and looking up at the ceiling as if it’s the most interesting thing he has ever seen. None of them talking to each other until the last drop of their coffes are clear.
“Wanna go somewhere else?” Jens offers, who’s now way calmer than before. He puts two Galleons on the table, and the tablecloth said “thank you. Come again!”
Lucas only nods, grabs his coat and leads the way outside. Somehow he can’t breathe properly. Wet soil and crisp fallen leaves in the forest? These are his personal favorite things whenever he turns into his animagus form and wandering alone in the night, especially in autumn. No... it can’t be... no!
“Are you okay?” Jens asks, looking concern.
“I’m great,” Lucas replies a bit too fast. He shows a wide smile and points at the Three Broomsticks. “Can we go there first? I wanna buy few bottles of butterbeer.”
Jens grins as he takes a relief breath seeing Lucas is alright, “sure.”
The date (or so Jens thought) is going exceptionally well, even though snow is still falling. Lucas buys a lot of things from Zonko’s to Honeydukes, and when Jens asks if Lucas is actually need all these, the answer he gets is only “I love to do some shopping sometimes” from the Slytherin boy.
After they heads out from the Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, Jens accidentally bumps into someone around his age with eyes as black as the raven, dark blue hair and skin as fair as the snow—making him look like a mannequin he and Lucas saw at Gladrags Wizardwear earlier.
“Sorry.” Jens says.
The boy doesn’t say a word, but he’s only looking at Jens for a few seconds before placing one hand on his shoulder and goes away. What a weird person, Jens thought.
“Stoffels, what’re you doing?” Lucas demands. His cheeks are now as pink as the booklet menu at Madam Puddifoot’s. “I looked behind my shoulder and you were gone?”
“I accidentally bumped into a strange boy.”
“As strange as you only stood here like an idiot?” Lucas rolls his eyes. “Let’s go back to the castle. I’m done sending my letters!”
Though still a little bewildered of what just happened, Jens follows Lucas lead, both are seemingly drowning in their own thoughts until Jens breaks the silence when they finally arrives at the viaduct courtyard. He pulls a small box from his coat’s pocket and says, “for you.”
“What is this? When did you buy it?” Lucas asks, still not taking the gift right away.
“I didn’t. Dad gave it to me when I got accepted here. I always have it with me, as a lucky charm,” Jens explains calmly as he looking straight at Lucas. “But now it’s yours.” He smiles when the Slytherin boy’s expression is clearly surprised.
“No.”
“No?”
“How could you give me something that you had for years?” Lucas demands. “YEARS, Stoffels! Not to mention that your Dad gave it to you. No!”
Jens sighs. He grabs one of Lucas hand and places the box on his palm, then closes it, “it’s mine to do whatever I want with it. Open up.”
Though Lucas still wanted to refuse, but the moment when he sees what’s inside the box catches his eyes immensely; it’s a brooch which shape is an anchor, made from gold with the word “virtus” engraved on it. Lucas absentmindedly touches the brooch with his thumb.
“What is this mean?”
“Virtue, worth, bravery. Whichever resonates with you.”
Lucas bites his lower lip, his eyes examining what Jens unusual gift for him, “are you sure about this?”
“Do you like it?”
“Of course I do. It’s beautiful. But...”
“Then it’s yours now,” Jens cuts him. His tone is final. “I feel like you need it more than I do, anyway.”
“Why? Why me?”
“I already told you the reason just now, silly.”
“Why me, Jens? ME!”
The other boy isn’t answering right away; instead, they’re only looking at each other. One is searching for answer, one is thinking if he should just tell the truth or not. But Jens thinks that even though this moment is the right time, but somehow there’s something inside him that’s holding him back from saying that he gives his most beloved possesion is because he’s in love with Lucas. As cliche as it can be, but he never lies about his feeling all his life. Gryffindor never lies.
Jens caresses Lucas rosy cheek with the back of his hand and says, “because you’re a very important person to me.”

PART 18 | THE PRICE OF GOLD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Saturdays were the busiest day for Tucker Gymnastics, with most parents available on the weekend to accompany their kids as they learned gymnastics from one of the very best in the field. On this particular Saturday the center was closed for a private event, one that would show no profits but make Lance Tucker’s heart richer with love.
Ariel Tucker, named after her mother’s favorite mermaid, was turning two years old today and Lance closed the center to the public to finally give Ariel her first official gymnastics lesson.
Waking up slowly you felt Lance’s chest pressed to your back, hearing his soft snores made your lips curve into smile with a sudden urge to look at his face. Shifting on to your back Lance inhaled stiffly, the corners of his lips pulling upwards as he nuzzled against you again.
“Good morning beautiful,” he said in a raspy whisper, his eyes still closed. It was the way he greeted you every morning since you moved in together and you never got tired of hearing it.
Within two years of dating you and Lance were married. It was the wedding you always dreamed of. Held at an estate south of Spring Hill you were married with an ocean backdrop, a cool breeze flowing through the air. Friends and family surrounding you to celebrate your special day, with both you and Lance shedding a few more tears than anticipated.
The moment he saw you it was like the world stopped spinning. Accompanied by your father, you glided down the aisle like an angel floating through the heavens. Wearing a strapless ivory mermaid style dress, lace and beads beautifully accentuated your body. Carrying a large bouquet of cascading flowers colored like the beautiful sunset behind him Lance thought it was the perfect accent to a more than perfect wedding– that is until you stood before him.
The tears that had formed in his eyes suddenly dropped down his cheeks as he smiled at the delicate pearls around your neck. They were Dorothy’s, given to you after her passing as part of her wishes. You knew the significance, these were the pearls Lance’s Grandma Ruth had worn on her wedding which she passed down to Dorothy for her wedding who always knew she would give it to you.
You choked back your own tears, smiling as you and Lance held each other’s hands during the ceremony, knowing how lucky you were that after half of your lives apart you found each other again.
“Good morning baby,” you replied, scratching your fingers through his hair, enjoying the surprisingly peaceful morning for as long as you could.
He was in need of a haircut, letting the time in between appointments go longer than he was used to. He didn’t mind though, his hair was the least of his concerns, not when any free time could be spent with you and Ariel. He needed a shave too, his stubble coming in a lot more than he normally let it. The combination made him look a little older but in a more distinguished way. No longer was he the spiky haired arrogant gymnast but the man you always dreamed you would grow old with (and thankfully no warts were to be found!)
“Speaking of babies,” he paused to rub his hand along your swollen belly, “How is the little guy doing?”
You were halfway through your second pregnancy, the name of your son to be determined. For now he was just “the little guy” and you were excited to welcome him as part of your growing family.
“Well he’s pressing on my bladder and if I don’t get up right this second I’m definitely going to pee on the bed,” you joked.
It was time to get up anyway, with Ariel’s giddy anticipation for her birthday you certain she would come flying into your bedroom any minute. Pushing yourself to sit up you were about to get off the bed before Lance called out for you to wait.
Turning around he stood on his knees in the center of the bed, dressed in boxers and white t-shirt, moving closer towards you for a kiss. Despite his morning breath you would have kissed him for hours, or until Ariel would undoubtedly come in, but at this moment you had to push him away as you clenched your legs together while running to the bathroom.
Lance laughed at your loud sigh of relief through the door for finally being able to pee. He laid back on the bed, his arm thrown over his eyes to block the strong morning sunlight from coming in through the window. With a smile plastered on his face Lance thought about how lucky he was to have this life.
He’s pulled from his peaceful reprieve as the pitter-patter of tiny feet echo off the wood floor, with tiny hands reaching up and grabbing the blanket. A quiet voice squeaks out a call for her Dad who turns and smiles at his little girl, lifting her up. Purple painted toes support her tiny frame that barely makes a dent on the mattress.
Born six weeks premature, Ariel required a short stay in the NICU, with you and Lance at her side every day. She made it through without any major complications except for the fact that her parents were even more overprotective of her. It was the main reason Lance hadn’t begun teaching her gymnastics.
You and Ariel visited Lance quite often at the center and she was always squirming to get out of your arms and join her Dad and the other kids for what she thought was playtime. She was so much smaller than the other children, and even though Lance would be at her side through each move he didn’t want his little girl to get hurt in any way; you both agreed she wasn’t ready yet.
Lance kissed her forehead, rolling down her Doc McStuffins pajama top that shifted up to expose her cute belly button.
“Daddy guesshwhat?”
Lance sat up against the headboard, “What is it Starfish?” he excitedly asked.
“Is my buhhthday!” she grinned, showing off her tiny teeth.
“It is?” he feigned surprise. “How old are you today?”
“I twoo!” she replied, holding up two small fingers.
“No you can’t be two! You’re my little baby,” Lance said, scooping her up into his arms as if he were cradling an infant, pressing kisses all over her face as she giggled from his ticklish stubble.
“No… I... Big... Girl,” she said in between fits of laughter.
Lance shifted Ariel so she faced him, “Okay, okay, you’re my big girl. What does my big girl want to do for her birthday?”
Ariel’s face lit up like fireworks, “Tumbwle!”
You stood in the doorframe watching their exchange, your heart growing bigger in size at the love Lance had for your daughter. He was the perfect father, loving, gentle, kind; he was the antithesis of Mitch Tucker.
“Daddy and I will take you to tumble but first we have a surprise for you!” you spoke up, your voice catching your daughter’s attention.
She jumped out of Lance’s arms, plopping down towards the end of the bed as you walked towards her. Sitting on her knees she was face to face with your large stomach and pressed a kiss to your belly.
“Good mawning bwother,” she said. For now Ariel was excited to have a sibling, once your or Lance’s attention is diverted from her there might be an issue.
Ariel was the sweetest little girl with an equal mix of Lance and your younger selves in her. She loved to sing, making up her own songs that she would perform as you and Lance sat together on the couch watching and cheering for her.
Like her namesake she was always in the water, with you and Lance playing “mermaids” with her. With floaties secured around her arms you would hold her by the waist on the surface of the water as her arms swept out in front of her with her legs wildly splashing behind. Ariel would swim to Lance and rescue him from the evil Ursula, also known as a smiling inflatable octopus pool toy.
When she was out of the water Ariel was never without her favorite teddy bear, your own childhood bear that once sat on the shelf proudly displaying Lance’s first medal, that is until Ariel made grabby hands and began to cry for the doll. The medal is now on your nightstand, hanging off a framed photo from your wedding day, a daily reminder of how far you and Lance have come.
Lance dressed Ariel as you prepared breakfast. Things had changed so much since you were a kid, now there were endless recipes on Pinterest to choose from, some you were able to master and others not so much. Today you made whole grain pancakes, pouring out two smaller circles of batter that would become the ears on the bear you were going to create. Using banana slices you placed them on the smaller pancakes as the inside of the bear’s ear, and one on the larger pancake as the snout, with chocolate chips becoming the eyes and nose.
In a small bowl was a plain yogurt with a fruit rainbow of raspberries, mandarin oranges, sliced green grapes and blueberries. So much work goes into preparing such a pretty breakfast all the time, your parents definitely had it easier.
Clinging to Lance’s frame as he went down the steps Ariel wore a coral halter romper with a hibiscus flower print and white strappy sandals with a large flower embellishment. He placed her at the table in her booster seat as she smiled at her pancakes.
“Where Teddy?” she worriedly asked before you brought him out from the table behind her.
Teddy required delicate cleaning since he was an old bear, something you occasionally did overnight as Ariel slept.
After eating and cleaning up yogurt on Ariel’s cheeks the three of you grab the bag you packed and head out to the garage. You handed Lance your car keys as you opened the door for Ariel, securing her in her car seat as Lance adjusted the mirrors.
“You know you’re gonna need a new car babe,” you said, as Lance pulled out of the garage and clicked a button for the door to close. Lance still had his convertible Mustang though the top has been up every time he’s driven with Ariel as per your insistence. “There’s no way you’re going to be able to fit another car seat in that thing,” you continued.
“Yeah I know,” he defeatedly huffed. “But there’s no way I’m getting a minivan!”
You burst out laughing as he looked over at you, his blue eyes full of stern conviction.
“Definitely not!” you agreed. “You’ll have to get something soon though, the little guy’s coming in a just a few months.”
“There’s still so much to do! New car, finish his room, name him!” Lance chuckled.
“Yeah I know,” you said running your hands over your stomach. “Well at least we know what we don’t want. No Brayden, Aiden, Grayson or Mason...”
“Yeah, not happening. Hey Starfish, what do you think we should name your brother?” Lance called out to Ariel who was playing with her dolls.
In one hand was Teddy and the other was Stuffy, the blue dragon from Doc McStuffins. Her growing brain mulled over the decision of names between the two stuffed animals. “Stuffy!” she cried out.
“Stuffy Tucker?” Lance questioned.
“Well, maybe if he has allergies,” you joked. “Sweetie what’s the name of the police dog on PAW Patrol?” It took a while for you and Ariel to think of the name until it finally hit you. “Chase! Lance, what about Chase?”
“Hmmm,” Lance mused out loud, “It’s a maybe.”
You quickly reached your destination, bringing Ariel for her first visit to Weeki Wachee. She had no idea what was happening until the “mermaids” swam in and Ariel gasped out loud, crying out “Mermaid!”
She was watching them in the same awe struck manner as you once did, pointing towards the viewing window as the mermaids swam by with a large smile plastered on her face.
Next you went to the wildlife show, with Lance having to hold Ariel tight in his lap as she kept wanting to pet all the animals. Your anxiety increased as the teenage employee kept bringing out progressively larger snakes until he finally showed off a small alligator.
Now that you were a mom you tried to find the balance between allowing Ariel the freedom to grow up while still being nurturing and protective. Right now you were going to be protective, extremely protective and used this opportunity to remind Ariel that these animals are not pets. Blowing out a harsh breath you wondered if you caused your own parents as much worry.
After the show you sat at a picnic table for a snack, giving Ariel a sippy cup of milk and putting out some Cheerios, string cheese and a mandarin orange that you shared with her. Lance made sure you ate more than just that, pulling out carrot sticks and a granola bar from the bag along with some water. Smiling you leaned forward to kiss him in return for his thoughtfulness.
You were taking a lot of precaution as the risk of another premature birth was always there. Lance was a big help, staying home more often to allow you more time to rest. Your workload lightened as well. You were still able to Skype with athletes for your articles but travel was out of the question. You were thankful having prepared a lot in advance to release during your maternity leave.
After eating you took Ariel on the boat ride. She sat in between you and Lance as she excitedly pointed out every fish, turtle and bird that you passed. When the ride was over you asked the driver to take your photo, the three of you saying “cheese” in unison, though Ariel screamed the word, which echoed off the roof of the boat.
Finally, you were headed to Tucker Gymnastics and Ariel was bubbling with anticipation. Lance had gone into his office, you suspect to check in on calls and emails while he waited for his girls. After a quick trip to the bathroom for both you and Ariel, you changed her into a shimmery purple leotard.
Lance’s door was still shut so you picked barefoot Ariel up carefully and walked her over to the photo of young Lance and Dorothy.
“This is your Daddy as a kid!” you said, pointing to him in the picture. “And this is your Grandma Dorothy. She is Daddy’s mommy.”
“Where Gamma Dowthy?” Ariel innocently asked.
“Grandma Dorothy is everywhere. When the sun warms up the day that’s Grandma Dorothy giving you a big warm hug, and when the moon is out at night she’s looking over and watching you sleep.”
Though she’s too young to truly understand you wanted Ariel to know Dorothy and one day when she’s older you know Lance will have her read your article. He still considers it one of the greatest gifts you’ve ever given him, though nothing compares to the love you show him every day, and the family you’ve made together.
Lance pulled open the door to his office, stepping out with a serious look on his face. He tightened a red bandana wrapped around his forehead and clapped his hands together, “Let’s do this!”
Reaching into his pocket he walked over to Ariel, pulling out a smaller bandana for her to match him. Ariel leaned towards Lance who took her from your arms and you followed them into the main gym. Lance leaned down in front of his antsy little girl who would not sit still as he gathered her hair together to tie it up and tie the bandana on her.
Once she was ready Lance put his palm up, “Let’s go for the gold!”
Ariel slapped his hand, “Go faw gold!”
Lance started slow, easing her into tumbles. “Squat like a frog,” he said, adjusting her hands and feet, “Now stick your tushie in the air and look at your belly button.”
Ariel giggled at the way Lance taught her but he guided her through the movement, assuring her head was placed properly for her to roll through. Lance made it a fun as she repeated the motions until she got it before moving on to a backwards roll. She was definitely Lance’s kid as she completed a backwards roll much more gracefully than you ever could.
With your phone in hand you took a bunch of photos and videos, all of which you knew you would have to send your parents. Even though they would be coming over later for cake and presents they insisted on having their own copy of every picture of their granddaughter and you can’t blame them. Your own phone was filled with thousands of pictures of your beautiful girl.
Lance worked on some poses, teaching her how to do a bridge. Soon she was in a downward dog position in front of the wall. Lance told her to keep her arms strong as he braced one hand on her arms and the other under her stomach for support.
“Walk your feet up the walls,” he said, as her little feet staggered asymmetrically up the wall. “You’re doing great Starfish!”
It wasn’t quite a handstand, not yet at least but you know with Lance’s guidance she would get there one day, just as you did.
Afterwards Lance whispered something in Ariel’s ear that made her jump up and down. Lance carried Ariel to the balance beam that was closest to the ground, placing her down and standing behind her as he cupped his hands around his mouth as he announced, “The US Women’s Gymnastics Team proudly presents ARIEL TUCKER!”
You pleaded for him to wait so you could record this. When you were ready Lance lifted Ariel onto the beam, holding her hands as she walked across it, stopping midway as he told her to jump up. As Ariel jumped Lance lifted her up high over his head before placing her gently down on the beam again. She walked to the end of the beam, jumping off as Lance held her.
He carried her over to the uneven bars, still gripping her waist as he held her up, instructing Ariel to hold on to the lower bar. He swayed her body from side to side, all while providing commentary on how the young gymnast has skillfully mastered the uneven bars. Next was the pommel horse, where Lance held her up and she wasn’t sure quite what to do. Lance began to tickle her stomach and so she burst into a fit of giggles, her little feet stomping up and down which made it look like she was dancing.
“And for her final challenge, the vault!” his voice boomed.
Ariel clung to Lance as he stood midway in the runway. He jogged lightly, dodging the vault and jumping into the foam block pit behind it.
“Ariel Tucker wins the gold!” Lance cheered, kissing Ariel on the cheek. She nuzzled into the crook of his neck, stretching her arms around him and you were so happy to have recorded that moment.
Lance placed Ariel on the mat’s as he pulled himself out of the pit, scooping her into his arms again to head back to his office. He opened the small refrigerator that was stocked up on juices boxes and snacks for Ariel. She sat in his chair, swinging her dangling legs around as she sipped from an apple juice box.
“Here,” he said, grabbing a water bottle for you and pulling out a packet of almonds from his desk. “Come on babe, you know you want my nuts.”
“Lance!” you yelled in a whispered voice.
“What? It’s protein,” he smirked, opening the packet and tossing a few almonds into his mouth before handing it to you so he could untie his bandana.
You shook your head at him all while smiling and Lance leaned closer to rub the tip of his nose against yours, your face scrunching in return at the contact.
“I love you so much Lance,” you said, tilting your head to press a kiss to his lips.
He pulled away quickly asking, “What about Jim?” You squinted at him in confusion, wondering who Jim was and why you were supposed to love them.
“For the baby. Maybe Jim for gymnastics. Or James. James Tucker,” Lance worked through his reasoning out loud.
“Definitely not Jim. James is a maybe.”
Lance cupped your cheeks in his hands and leaned in to kiss you more sincerely, pulling away from each other before things got too steamy.
After arriving home you put Ariel down for a short nap. With Teddy by her side you tucked Ariel in and went downstairs to begin baking her birthday cake. Passing the photos that hung on the walls you stopped to smile at each one, pausing at Dorothy’s photo wishing she was here to see her grandchildren.
Lance stood behind you as you measured flour into a large mixing bowl, pressing a kiss to your neck which made you squirm with delight.
“Look at this,” you said, reaching your arms out in front of you, “I feel like I’m so far away from the counter!” You laughed as you gestured to your large belly that kept you back from the countertop.
“Just a few more months,” Lance said, pressing a kiss to your temple.
You continued to prepare the ingredients, placing them in the mixer and setting it. You saw Lance was attempting to say something but you couldn’t hear him over the sound. Once everything was done you smiled and he repeated himself.
“I asked if you should really be on your feet, Y/N. You have to take it easy,” he said, bringing over a stool.
You looked warily at the seat, “I think I might break it,” you half joked and Lance shook his head.
Instead of getting on the stool you took Lance’s hand in yours, “Lance, I have an idea for a name,” you said softly.
Lance waited for you to continue, rubbing his thumb along your hand.
“What about Theodore? For your Mom,” you suggested, looking up at him with hopeful eyes as you waited for his response.
Lance’s lips curved into a bittersweet smile, once again you found the perfect way to honor Dorothy.
His palm caressed the swell of your belly, “I love it Y/N, I love you, I love you so much,” he whispered before capturing your lips in a sweet kiss.
“I love you too.”
Tumblr media
The night was filled with laughter as Ariel ran around with your parents, opened up her presents and ended up with frosting all over her face.
Lance picked her up in his arms, laughing as she leaned forward to place a sticky kiss to your cheek. Your parents snapped the perfect photo with all three of you laughing widely. You wiped Ariel’s face and then cleaned your own, tucking yourself under Lance’s other arm for another picture.
The life you imagined with Lance had gone off track for a bit but you were thankful everyday for being given the opportunity to come back to each other. Lance stood proudly, with one arm wrapped around you, his little girl clinging to his other side like a starfish on a rock.
The Olympics were a distant memory, fading away as Lance finally achieved his greatest accomplishment and was rewarded with gold every day in the form of the love he shared with his family. 🏅

14-Day Fast Fat Loss Guide
I recently stopped by the new house of an ol' college buddy to meet his fiance and new baby boy. He's getting married in 5 months time and we had to have a serious chat.
You see, he's gained 25 pounds since birth of his son. He really fell off the wagon. But he's taken the first and most important step by admitting things have to change and so we sat around for over 2 hours in his backyard on a beautiful day and hammered out this plan.
I could have wrote a 5-month plan, but I wanted to fast-track his results - and YOUR results - because research shows people who start losing fat quickly get better long-term fat loss results as well.
So here's your complete 14-day FAST-TRACK guide to fat loss (if you like it, please forward it to a friend or print them off a copy too):
Day 1 - Stop Everything to Plan, Shop, & Prepare This Meal Plan
I hope you're reading this on Sunday, because I want you to plan, shop, and prepare today. If it's Monday, skip your workout and do this instead - its THAT important.
And I don't just mean planning what you are going to eat for dinner. I mean planning what you are going to eat for every meal for the next 2 weeks.
Don't tell me that's too hard. After all, most people with lean physiques stick to a relatively similar diet for 90% of their meals and then enjoy a random cheat/reward meal 10% of the time.
So your schedule might go like this:
Breakfast - 2 eggs, 1 slice rye toast, 1 apple, Green Tea, fish oil
Snack - 1oz raw almonds, 1 pear, Green Tea
Lunch - Grilled chicken/salmon or black bean salad with spinach, onion, peppers, mushrooms, etc., 1 banana or bowl of cherries, 2 cups unsweetened iced tea with lime or lemon
Snack - Unlimited raw vegetables and hummus
Dinner - Protein and vegetables and fruit...so this could be a small piece of steak, chicken, or fish, along with your favorite vegetables, and a bowl of your favorite fruit.
Or it could be the veggie dinner I had last Monday of quinoa with red pepper-cashew sauce and avocado wrapped in kale leaves.
Or it could be wild rice with beans and avocado and salsa.
That schedule won't change much, with the exception of a slight variation in your main course at dinner, right? And then once per week schedule a meal of your favorite food.
Everyone can stick to this plan for 14 days, and this tip alone will help you lose 5-12 pounds of fat in just 2 weeks. And this is also how you'll need to eat for the rest of your life. It's not hard, it just requires a little practice. Keep at it and never, EVER give up.
Alright, so to review, here's your 3-step guide to Day 1.
i) Plan your meals. ii) Shop for the food. iii) Prepare the food (cut everything up, put in the proper trays, cook food if necessary, and get it all packed up for work)
In addition to planning out all of your meals, you must also start keeping a food journal (you could do it online too), because studies show that keeping a food journal will help you lose fat faster.
Next, make sure you do 60 minutes of activity today AND take a "before" photo along with your weight, body fat (if possible), and measurements of your waist, hips, arms, and thighs. Continue to weigh yourself every other day, as research shows that frequent check-ins lead to greater weight loss.
Day 2 - Attend An "Online Fat Loss & Fitness Seminar"
You must set EVERY workout and activity session as an appointment with yourself that you must keep - just like a doctor's visit. Let nothing, except real emergencies, come between you and your workouts.
Today you're going to do a short, burst exercise workout.
Now if you are currently using long, slow, boring cardio to lose f at, stop that bad habit immediately and switch to short, burst workouts.
If you need to learn more about short, burst workouts, go to YouTube and search for interval workouts. While you are there, look up my "Diet vs. Exercise" video series to see why diet is much more effective for fat loss than cardio.
If you are a beginner, please start conservatively. But if you have been working out for a while, the next 3 weeks are your time to step your workouts up a notch.
Day 3 - Write Your Way to Fat Loss
First, you must schedule 60 minutes of easy to moderate activity. I'll talk about that in a second, but you can do anything from a 60 minute walk, a yoga session, a light bodyweight and stretching session, an hour of playing with your kids, or playing an easy game of your favorite sport. Don't go too hard, but stay active.
You must also carve out 30 minutes to sit down and write out 3 short term goals and 3 long term goals. Write down EXACTLY what you want to accomplish in these 14 days. After that, write down what you want to accomplish in the following 90 days.
Once you've done that, you're going to prepare a contract with yourself promising to take the steps necessary to achieve these goals. Sign the contract and review it everyday to keep you on track.
Day 4 - Recruiting Day
Today's another short burst workout. Make sure you are using a professionally designed structured and proven fat loss workout, rather than just "winging it" or using long slow cardio for fat loss.
You'll also spend time today recruiting for these 3 components of your fat loss social support team:
- Nutrition buddy - Workout partner - Fat loss forum accountability buddies
Research shows that recording your nutrition in a food journal and having someone review your meals increases your chance of losing fat.
Another study found that if you workout with a partner who is losing fat, then you'll have a greater chance of losing fat as well.
And finally, a third study found that the more often subjects checked in to an online fat loss forum, the more likely they were to lose a lot of fat.
Get your team together and you'll get more results - faster.
Day 5 - The 60 Minute Solution
Why am I telling you to get 60-minutes of activity on your off days?
Well, to be honest, I do NOT expect you to burn massive amounts of fat with easy, off-day activity.
However, every minute you spend moving, you are NOT snacking! I know the biggest problem you will have is your diet. So instead of snacking in front of the computer or TV, spend your free time away from food. That's the simple secret to the 60 minute solution.
So get 60 minutes of activity on Day 5.
Day 6 - The Challenge
Your 3rd workout needs to be a challenge workout so that you can improve your performance each week. In fact, you should set at least one personal best in each workout. If you improve your performance, your physique will improve as well.
Day 7 - Diet Check-In and Reward Meal
Congratulations, you've made it through 7 amazing days of fat burning. Today you're going to double check your nutrition plan by reviewing your food journal.
If you haven't already done so, eliminate all liquid calories and replace with water and Green Tea.
If you need to learn more about nutrition, start using the free service called Fitday.com. It will help you track your calories.
And if you're really struggling to avoid night eating, try this tip. Place a small mirror on your fridge door. Research shows that subjects consumed fewer calories when they did this because it will remind you to make smarter choices.
Finally, as a reward for all of your hard work, you can treat yourself to your favorite meal. But that doesn't mean gorging. It simply means having a normal meal of your favorite foods to give you a mental break from your plan. When the meal is over, don't go back for seconds. Get right back on the 14-day plan instead.
Days 7 & 8 are also 60 minute off-day activity days.
Day 8 - Review your goals.
It's no good to write your goals down and then forget them. Review them at least weekly, if not daily. Heck, carry them around in your pocket and look at them at every meal.
As you workout, visualize yourself reaching your goals. Believe in yourself, keep a positive attitude, stay motivated and you'll continue to make fast fat loss progress every day.
This will also be another great day to plan, shop, and prepare.
Day 9 - Take It to Another Level
Week one was great, but with only 5 days left it is time for you to step it up again. This time I want you to hire a trainer for just one session to make sure you are doing all the exercises correctly and training as hard as you can (safely, of course).
Add this trainer to your support team. And by the way, a good trainer should be able to estimate your body fat better than any of those "fat scales" you can buy at a store...so get them to check that too.
Day 10 - Plan Your Next Shopping Trip
Today is another 60 minutes of off-day activity, and you'll also work on improving your nutrition even more. What I want you to do is focus on eating more from the Fat Loss Foundation.
The 3 components of my Simple Nutrition Fat Loss Foundation are raw fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Research shows that eating more of these 3 foods will help you lose weight better than a diet that is low in fruits, vegetables and nuts.
Make an effort to eat one new fruit, vegetable, and nut each week during your between meal snacks.
If you aren't already eating grapefruit, try one today and see how it helps fill you up (because it contains a lot of soluble fiber called pectin). Add a new vegetable - such as broccoli, cauliflower, or asparagus - to your dinner. And try walnuts or pecans instead of almonds at your morning break.
Slowly but surely increase the fiber in your diet until you hit the recommended amount of 35 grams per day.
And I hope this goes without saying, but you should have eliminated all foods that contain added sugar. That is one the simplest yet most effective nutrition changes you can make.
Day 11 - Recruit Again
Add a new member into your social support team, such as a new workout partner or healthy-eating partner. This will add strength to your commitment. If possible, join a transformation contest online, or start one among your friends or co-workers.
But when you do that, keep in mind that you want to help other people succeed. The more you can help others lose fat, the more you will help yourself as you share what's working with your friends and they show you their fat loss secrets too. Stay positive, and you'll build a powerful fat loss team.
Today is also another fat loss workout day, so give it your best.
Day 12 - Check-In Time
Today you'll re-measure your weight, body fat, and measurements. Take a look in the mirror to compare yourself against your before photo to see big changes that will motivate you to stay strong.
I also want you to start thinking about getting a tan. Yes, I said getting a tan. Why? Because simply adding a little bit of color to your body can make you look leaner. There's a reason all those models in supplement ads are tanned, you know.
Finally, if there is a "big day" at the end of the 14-days, make sure you try on the outfit you are going to wear to double-check that it is going to look great on you.
Make sure you do this check-in either before your 60 minutes of activity or a few hours after so that exercise does not mess-up the numbers.
Day 13 - Mental Performance Review
Write down all obstacles that are still in your way of success, and then brainstorm 2 solutions to overcome each. Get some help from your social support team on this. The more you and your team share solutions, the more fat you - and everyone else - will lose.
For example, you might come up with rules like, "No eating in the car" to help cut down on bad food choices. Someone else might suggest "brush your teeth after dinner to avoid night-time snacking". Those are simple yet powerful tips to keep you on the fast-track to fat loss.
Follow up this positive session with your best TT workout yet!
Day 14 - Review, Plan, & Prepare
Congrats on making so many powerful changes in just 2 short weeks.
By now, you'll probably have lost 5-12 pounds of fat and just as importantly, you'll have developed proven, life-long fat burning habits that will be easy for you to stick to forever.
Keep this weight loss train moving by reviewing your original goals. Next, do your planning, shopping, and preparing for another week, and get ready for even more fat loss.
Enjoy your 14-day results and celebrate with a reward meal (and show off your firmer, leaner body at the big event too!).
Wishing you success!
Please email me with your success story in 14 days (or sooner!).

Fox & Ariel - Persistence
“Meeting” Scene Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Battle of Haven Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 The Winter Palace - Start The Winter Palace - Formal Introductions The Winter Palace - Secret Gathering The Winter Palace - Rift Battle The Winter Palace - Settling Caer Oswin
A tiny kind of fluffy thing? A particular thing just needed to happen.
It had become somewhat of a comfortable routine: she would finish with her daily regiments and whatever projects she had going with Dagna for the day and would sneak off to the kitchens to see what she could scrounge up for dinner. Sometimes she would just get a little thing for herself, but other evenings— almost exclusively when she knew there was no game of wicked grace planned— she would spend a fair amount of time there to cook a little something and brew some tea. It was mostly a source of amusement for the kitchen staff now and some younger folks did their best to help her when she was struggling.
Today she’d managed something fairly complex for her: baking banana bread. She wrapped her tasty project in cloth to keep it warm for a little bit before stowing it in a basket. A few apples, two knives and a pair of plates were placed in next. After thinking it over, she decided to move things around a bit to allow for a small pitcher of warm tea and two cups. Trying to hold two cups while balancing the basket would have been a bad idea. Plus, she’d be going down a lot of stairs, so it was best not to risk anything she didn’t have to.
The second part, and certainly the point to her cooking at all, was to visit with Fox. While she still had feelings for the man that went deeper than friendship she’d come to the conclusion that he did not feel the same way. Still, she still wanted to be around him as much as was comfortable. And at least this way she knew he was eating well for at least one meal of the day.
On this particular evening, she did not find her path down the stairs blocked by a resting cat as it sometimes was and the journey down to the Skyhold basement library was uneventful. “I hope you’re at a place you can stop,” she called as she neared the archway to the library. Fox was almost always down here at this time, so she was fairly certain she wouldn’t be embarrassing herself by talking to air. Even with the prior warning, she wrapped her knuckles on the stone as she wandered inside with a small smile parting her lips.
“I’ve got something a little different today. Hopefully it’s good,” she chuckled, realizing that it was probably a bit self-deprecating, but she did honestly have a only mediocre track record when it came to successful cooking. “If not, I brought apples and tea as usual.”
“I’m sure it’s lovely, thank you,” Fox said. He looked up from his work and tidied his papers to the side.
Ariel smiled, but shook her head. He was always so nice about her shortcomings and she wasn’t sure why. Maybe that was why she couldn’t stop visiting him. He didn’t tease her, they just… talked. And she always looked forward to it even if they occasionally had disagreements. All that said, she scanned the desk he sat at before finding a relatively empty space to put down the basket. She wandered over to a chair she’d long since dragged down here so she could sit, since the last time she’d just flopped down on the floor next to him to talk he asked why she wanted to sit on the floor. It was a little plush since she tended to stay for a least a little while and large enough for her to sit with her legs crossed an an odd mixture of indian and lotus position that was simply her most comfortable and natural way of sitting at this point.
As she leaned up and around to pull out the pitcher and the cups to pour the tea for them, she spotted something different on his desk. It looked like the lantern he’d given her, and later she discovered everyone in the inner circle as well, but it was bigger and the spark was a different color. She gestured to the new item after pouring tea into their cups. “Are you refining the lantern design?”
Fox looked up from the basket and blinked. “The lan- Oh. Oh, no, this is different style. I just hadn’t made one recently.”
Ariel quirked a brow at his phrasing. “A different style?” she echoed, tilting her head slightly as she turned her attention fully onto the item to take in the details. There were intricate designs woven into the metal of the entire sphere and she examined it in silence for a few moments, gingerly tracing some of the pattern with a fingertip. There was a dull itch, so she knew it was just as magical as the lantern she already had from him, but it didn’t burn. “Well,” she said as she finally pulled away and sat up. “It’s very pretty. Must have taken you a while.”
“Thank you,” Fox said. In time with his words the lantern brightened slightly and the light shifted color to be slightly warmer. “The casing is Dagna’s work, of course, but she was delighted to work with my design.”
Ariel’s gaze flickered between the lantern to him several times, head tilting even further than it had been. “...did it just…?” she started, but then just shook her head and reached in the basket for a plate, a knife and the cloth-wrapped loaf. She needed to test that the attempt wasn’t deserving of being fed to Leliana’s crows. Despite her previous control, once she had cut a thin piece off to test and surprisingly found it to be fairly tasty she found herself looking at the new lantern again. “Is that connected to you, Fox?”
Fox took a sip of his tea. “Indeed. Watch.” He gestured to the lamp before narrowing his eyes at his cup. A deep crease formed in his brow and the edge of his mouth started to curl and the lamp glowed a violent red in response. After a breath, he released the emotion with a sigh.
She would have laughed at the idea that his example was him getting angry at his tea, but she knew surely there was nothing about tea that could possibly bother him enough to get that much of an expression from him. Ariel blinked as she watched the lamp interact with apparently his emotions, her mouth opening slightly in both surprise and awe. She could feel the magic itching through her arm and raising the hairs at the back of her neck as it changed color so it was clearly more powerful than the other lantern. “That’s really neat!” she chirped happily, eyes wide and glittering with the excitement of discovery. There were so many questions to its operation, though, and she didn’t hesitate to ask them even as she cut up a couple pieces of her bread. “Does it take energy to affect it? Is it always attached to you? Like, even if you went on a mission could I check on this and see if you’re okay?”
Fox laughed and pulled an apple out of the basket. He cut it up easily - and he looked to have a professional flare - but Ariel knew from the magebane incident that it was at least partially his magic’s doing. “It’s passive, but it also passively takes my energy. Yes, it’s always attached to me. As for if you can check on it… Like as not, I’ll have it with me. It has more functions than just light and even though it’s a passive drain, it’s a lower mana cost than casting new heating spells each night.”
Ariel smiled as he laughed, the sound putting her at ease. She took in all the answers with little nods of her head, but when he noted that he wouldn’t leave it here she snapped her fingers and put on a small pout. “Dangit,” she sighed. “Ah well,” she added after only a breath, pulling out the other plate and putting several slices of her baked good on it before gently placing it in front of him. “At least this turned out okay. Not even crispy.”
“I take it from the phrasing it’s not supposed to be?” Fox asked as he took a piece of the bread. He bit into it and then nodded. “Rather heavy, but not too sweet.”
“Well, I mean… it’s bread,” Ariel offered with a nervous laugh. “Kinda hard sometimes to make bread not heavy.” She finished the piece that she had nibbled on to make sure it was okay. “I’m just glad it’s good enough. I saw a couple shipments of bananas the other day and thought about doing this once they’d run really low so I didn’t interrupt the kitchen staff much. So, tadaa.” She let her voice take on a sing-song quality with the last word, gesturing lazily to the loaf. “Banana bread.”
She leaned back once she’d cut up half an apple and munched away on a slice while quietly observing him. “So,” she said once she’d swallowed, “have you made any progress down here with all this paperwork you’re married to?”
He considered her question as he ate. “It is, perhaps, a task with no clear end. Some things have been completed, but it is like moving sand from one beach to another.”
“Are the records secrets?” Ariel asked after taking care of another slice of apple. She’d stopped trying to pry when, every time Fox wasn’t down here, the books and papers were missing. But the way he phrased it, that the task was endless, made her both worried and curious. “Wouldn’t it help if you had someone, or even multiple people, helping you go through them?”
Fox didn’t meet her eyes. “There is no proper way to explain what to look for. Further, the contents are particularly distressing. You have enough of a burden on your heart without them.”
“And you don’t?” Ariel asked, the question falling from her lips before she could think better of it. “You carry just as much, since we’ve spoken about everything,” she reminded him. “More, considering your background.” She started on another slice, gaze averting from him for a little while as she chewed. She sighed before swallowing and looking back at him. “But I’ve learned that pushing you doesn’t help. Like pushing a cart sideways. Just… know that my offer to help is genuine, regardless of the difficulty.”
“Thank you, but this is something I must do.”
Ariel just shrugged and shook her head. She took a few sips of her tea before refilling it from the pitcher. It was lukewarm already, to her surprise. Another slice of her banana bread later and she felt like she had to break the silence with something. “Have you gotten any updates about the kids?” she asked him. “Is everybody okay? At this point things are settled enough around here that you could probably send Ivan back if you wanted to, if it were needed…”
That drew a full laugh out of Fox. “I think you’ve been rather focused. To answer your first question, I get an update every few days. As to the latter issue, he returns often handle business with the children before returning.”
She blushed a little, getting the distinct impression that he was laughing at her and it both irritated and concerned her. What was wrong with being concerned about an orphanage full of mage kids hidden away somewhere? A small frown pursed her lips and her brows knitted slightly even as she listened. “I guess that means that everyone’s okay, or at least well enough to send updates. That’s good. I don’t always see Ivan around but I guess I just didn’t think about him actually going anywhere.” Had he not laughed, she might have suggested that while Ivan was a good conversation partner she wanted to spend more time with him instead. As it was, however, she just sighed and tried not to beat herself up inwardly for being stupid about it as she cut up the other half of her apple to finish it off.
“Just because he’s not in your story, doesn’t mean he stops existing when you’re not around to see him,” Fox said.
Okay that was just unnecessary. Did she really come off that poorly? She seemed like some kind of supremely selfish creature that thought the world revolved around her or her perception? She stared at him as she finished her latest slice. “You’re not, either,” she reminded him, pointing at him with a new slice. “But I clearly don’t think you stop existing the moment you’re out of my sight or I can’t find you. Don’t know why you think I’d feel any differently about Ivan or anyone else for that matter. The kids weren’t and I’ve never seen seen or heard them and I was thinking about them enough to inquire. Taevel has been a good friend I didn’t know a thing about him being here. This world doesn’t revolve around what I know even though some days it can feel like it. I’ve long understood that. I live here now. Maybe I’m not as observant as other people, but that doesn’t mean I dismiss other people’s very existence just because I don’t see them.”
Whatever Fox thought about that, he kept to himself. Though he was silent, his lamp was still the same even, soft, blue-green glow it’d had when she first came down.
His silence was deafening and filled her with questions, but she remained seated and quiet long enough to finish her apple and calm down. Ariel knew he cared, after everything that had happened, so she had to remind herself of that. It was the dichotomy between how virtually anyone else in the inner circle saw her and apparently how he did that confused her. The only difference was how much she had told him about the ‘prophecy’. Well, that and her own feelings, she supposed. But those clearly didn’t change anything so they didn’t matter.
“Well, I guess I’ll leave you to your work,” she said, putting her plate and knife back into the basket after wrapping up her bread loaf again. She paused, holding it out as she realized she could offer it to him. “Did you want me to leave this for you?” she asked, deciding at least that was safe to ask. “I could leave a plate and knife too so you could cut it however you want.”
“I’m fine, but thank you. My room is next to the kitchens if I’m hungry later.”
“Okay then,” she breathed, carefully packing up everything. Once she’d tested the pitcher a bit to make sure it was secure, she looked back up at him. “Good luck, with all this,” she offered quietly before slipping the basket onto the crook of her arm.
She pulled the chair away against the wall again so that it wouldn’t be in his way if he needed to lean over his own desk for whatever reason. All that settled, she headed around the desk and towards the stairs. She was undecided on if she would keep the banana bread, let the crows have it even though it turned out well or ask Cole if someone would like some. In any case, she had to deliver the basket back to the kitchen and she planned to swing by the tavern for at least one mug of ale or mead. Sleep would be much easier after that.
