Panther City Fountain, sculpted by Franco Alessandrini, circa 2002, Italian marble. Fort Worth, TX. Photos by Amber Maitrejean
Why is Fort Worth also known as Panther City? There's always been a bit of a rivalry between Fort Worth and Dallas, going way back.
In 1875, the Dallas Daily Herald published a column about an alleged scandal in "our suburban village of Fort Worth," written by a lawyer named Robert Cowart, who had recently moved from Fort Worth to Dallas. Cowart’s claim: Fort Worth was so sleepy that nobody noticed a huge, dangerous predator napping in the middle of downtown. The next morning, according to the satirical column, people took turns pointing out “whar the panter had laid down.” Rather than take the insult from the Dallas paper, Fort Worth’s citizens adopted the panther as a new icon. ~The Dallas Morning News

Ponyboy Curtis
INFP
Tumblr media
Note: I always thought that Ponyboy was the most stereotypical INFP who’s actually an INFP in fiction lol.
Fi (Introverted Feeling)
Tumblr media
Throughout the book, Ponyboy is consistently thinking about things from an emotional perspective, unlike most of the other characters we see throughout the story. While he does like emotional connection, he does tend to question the morals of the rest of the group, questioning their violent tendencies. He doesn’t like fighting, and is only seen fighting when he is attacked or protecting someone or something close to him. Despite this, he also ponders deeper emotional connections to things like sunsets.
Ne (Extroverted Intuition)
Tumblr media
One thing Ponyboy is consistently criticized for, especially by Darry, is being in his head too much. Oftentimes, it’s to the point of ignoring the world around him, and getting hurt, other times, it allows him to see and comprehend things that others don’t. This is what makes him a compelling protagonist. He thinks a lot about the world around him in an abstract way, wondering how things would be if the society he lived in would be different, coming up with different ideas.
Si (Introverted Sensing)
Tumblr media
Ponyboy bases his view on the world around him, as well as his own emotions on experience. He is able to quote a Robert Frost poem word for word, and this is used for the basis of a lot of iconic lines throughout the story. He also bases his opinions on personal experiences. He doesn’t trust the Socs, based on past experiences, and he writes an essay for school (which becomes the book) that is directly pulled from his experiences.
Te (Extroverted Thinking)
Tumblr media
Because it is the weaker of his four functions, he struggles with thinking through his actions logically, and just reacts based on emotion. However, we see Te consistently battle his Fi (and losing). Morally, he disagrees with the construct of Greasers vs Socs as a whole, logically, he knows that it’s just how things are structured, so he never questions it. He doesn’t like Dallas, but he respects him as a member of the gang. However, he never confronts his issues, which is another reason this is so low.
Enneagram
9w1
Tumblr media
Ponyboy, throughout the book and the movie, desires nothing more than peace both internally and externally. He sees what’s going on, and he is one of the few characters we see be very critical of it. He doesn’t like fighting with his brother, but he only does so to defend himself. He also doesn’t want to be separated from it, because it’s the only lifestyle he knows.

Who, in your opinion, are ✨Legendary, Talented Actors and Actresses✨ (deceased, alive and "legend in the making")?
Nice question!!!!  Like the word “versatile”, I feel that when referring to an actor or actress, “legendary” is thrown around too often without actually understanding what that word means and how it correlates to an actor or actress. That being said, I hope I do this right...
Alive: - Daniel Craig - Winona Ryder - Christian Bale - Julianne Moore - Jim Carrey - Meryl Streep - James McAvoy - Julia Roberts - Willem Dafoe - Susan Sarandon - Ewan McGregor - Charlize Theron - Johnny Depp (like him or not) - Nicole Kidman - Tom Hanks - Kate Winslet - Edward Norton - Morgan Freeman - Robert Downey Jr. - Leonardo DiCaprio - Allison Janney - Christopher Walken - Will Smith - Michael Caine - Brad Pitt - Dakota Fanning - Denzel Washington - Viola Davis - Gary Oldman - Bryce Dallas Howard - Idris Elba - Helena Bonham Carter - Tom Cruise (like him or not, and I, personally, absolutely despise him) - Jessica Chastain - Al Pacino - Cate Blanchett - Steve Carell (his career took off after he landed his iconic role as Michael Scott in The Office, but since his last episode in 2011, he's come a long way and has even branched out into a variety of genres as well as role types) - Angelina Jolie - Michael Keaton - Michelle Pfeiffer - Daniel Day-Lewis - Sandra Bullock - Robert De Niro - Renée Zellweger - Colin Farrell - Patricia Arquette - Colin Firth - Joaquin Phoenix - Keanu Reeves - Matthew McConaughey - Brendan Fraser - Harrison Ford - Jack Nicholson - Stanley Tucci
**There are tons of actors and actresses from the 30s-60s that were in-demand and could definitely be considered a legend, but I chose to leave them off because I didn’t want this list to be long and I wanted to focus on only the ones I grew up with as well as heard of**
Gone, but NEVER Forgotten - Heath Ledger - Carrie Fisher - Robin Williams - Brittany Murphy - River Phoenix - Chadwick Boseman - Chris Farley - Patrick Swayze
Legend in the Making: - Anya Taylor-Joy - Robert Pattinson - Margot Robbie - Julia Garner (I can just feel it...!) - Finn Wolfhard - Melissa McCarthy - Andrew Garfield - Sadie Sink (I can just feel it...!) - Cillian Murphy - Kate McKinnon - Saoirse Ronan - Anne Hathaway - Amy Adams - Lin-Manuel Miranda - Kristen Stewart (like her or not)
Honorable Mentions: Emma Thompson, Natalie Portman, Elle Fanning, Halle Berry, Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Zoë Saldaña, Emma Stone, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler
Unsure:
Hugh Jackman - click here
Matthew Modine - A true artist at heart who was quite versatile with his roles and genres in the 80s (and so fine 😍), but he isn't super well-known nor popular like, for example, Tom Hanks; however, the role of 'Papa' on Stranger Things won him tons of new fans as well as awoke his fans that grew up with him
Jason Bateman - He's been around since the 80s, but aside from Ozark, he only really stars in crude R-rated films, so I'm on the fence about whether he'd be considered one or not
Amy Poehler
Adam Driver
Tina Fey
Jake Gyllenhaal
Chris Rock
Florence Pugh
Bill Skarsgård
Tom Holland
|---------------------------------------------------------------|
There are definitely tons--I mean tons of more actors and actresses I could write out for each category, but I'll end the lists here. Thank for the ask, this was fun to think about! If any of you have suggestions, then send me an ask.

Mostra Museo MA*GA, Gallarate 3 dicembre 2017-22 aprile 2018

To kick things off, we flew to Dallas to shoot an exclusive with football icon, Troy Aikman. We got the inside scoop on how this legend believes hard work can get you anywhere.
Meanwhile in New York, we booked out the historic Glenmere Mansion for a special cover shoot with our favorite Scot, Sam Heughan. Our 10-page exclusive was shot by none other than photographer, Eric Michael Roy. Sam left us all a little starstruck, the Outlander star whose kindness and undeniable charisma earned him the honor of being the only man to capture our cover twice. In our interview he covers everything from his favorite character he’s ever played, his most prized possession, and what he does when he’s not working.
We are proud to welcome Shark Tank star, Robert Herjavec as our new contributor. Robert is not only a dynamic entrepreneur, but a true gentleman. We showcase some incredible independent watchmakers for the true collector, and explore the extraordinary McLaren Artura, a car that pushes every limit (in the best way). For $20 SH better be shirtless. SH doesn’t identify the exact requirements of being a Nobleman. How many peoples know this magazine exists?
This is a business model, the income is made by selling ad spaces. I wonder how much SH paid for this article. They sell a ton of “luxury” ad space in the magazine, then send it to every single hotel and spa. Doctor's office, real estate office, and nail spot for free.
$20 to make advertisers think they are reaching a very high-end demographic by buying ad space in the magazine and SH’s fans club assume it's fancy 🤦‍♀️
SH is not famous, the magazine is not popular, and they didn’t pay SH for an exclusive cover story. This happens because SH’s PR agent has a relationship with publications at any scale. No doubt SH and PR agent pitched and pay the cover story about whatever he's promoting to their press list—including Nobleman, a potential place to pitch a story about a product, “ SH”. 😕
The moral of the story is SH’s American PR/marketing cast an idea to the net and then the resulting media that comes through comes from whoever takes the press release and runs with it. Who took the idea… “Nobleman”?
... It's no secret he wears a hairpiece, but you wonder how to try different wig styles and not find the right one for him 😂

Paramount's Slimly Chip:
Toga Chip Gal and I vacationed in Delray Beach, FL.  While at the pool, I met a couple from Flint, Michigan.  After we exchanged greetings and I explained that I was a Potato Chip Historian, they asked me what I knew about Paramount Potato Chips, the jingle and and its mascot, Slim Chiply.  To be honest, I was not very familiar with either the brand, jingle, or mascot, but after returning home, I have been able to research all three.
Paramount was started by Ed Dewan, a Flint man in the years after World War II.  The company was purchased in 1958 and widely expanded by Robert N. Johnson during the 1960s  From 1962 until 1995, the company's production and distribution activities were based out of 2727 Lippincott Blvd.  The brand was eventually squeezed off store shelves by bigger chip makers, which paid slotting fees for the best spots on grocery store shelves. It closed in 1992. its rights were later acquired by Better Made from Detroit, MI.
A brief story about the company, its mascot and the jingle appeared in the January 3, 2019 edition of My City Magazine.  http://www.mycitymag.com/slim-chiply-and-paramount-potato-chips/

While the article states that the character was created by Dallas Oliver, who had also worked for the Walt Disney Company, an obituary in the Saginaw News states that Jean Rockwell Beach created the Slim Chiply character. https://obits.mlive.com/obituaries/saginaw/obituary.aspx?n=jean-rockwell-beach&pid=191517175&fhid=9278
The unforgettable jingle:   "I'm Slim Chiply, the guy you see on the Paramount Potato Chips bright red pack. I'm the flavor deputy, protecting crispness in every pack. They're delicious, and so nutritious, yes sir'ee, they're pips, Paramount Potato Chips."  The jingle begins the classic commercial medley.

WrestleQuest is your way to glory beyond the ring
Tumblr media
WrestleQuest pro wrestling and RPG game launches on both Linux and Windows PC. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Mega Cat Studios. Available on both Steam and Humble Store with Positive reviews. Mega Cat Studios and Skybound Entertainment have teamed up to release a game that is a unique blend of pro wrestling and RPG, WrestleQuest, on Linux. At its core, WrestleQuest offers a chance to step into the shoes of an up and coming wrestler. Just as every sports person dreams of reaching the height of their sport, players embark on a journey alongside the legends of wrestling. But it's not just about sheer power or flashy moves. Since it's a test of dedication, perseverance, and the unyielding spirit to stand tall. Even when faced with adversity. WrestleQuest draws inspiration from towering figures of the wrestling world, such as “Macho Man” Randy Savage. These figures aren't just references; the settings and tests you face are designed to reflect the illustrious careers of these wrestling giants. Think of it as diving into the most exciting chapters of a history book. But instead of just reading, you're living out those moments. The combat mechanics of WrestleQuest fuse familiar role-playing elements with the dynamism of wrestling. It's not just about choosing an attack but learning the rhythm and style that will give you an edge in the ring. You can personalize your wrestler, not just in terms of looks, but right down to the way they taunt opponents. The same with the way they make a grand entrance.
WrestleQuest - Launch Trailer
youtube
Beyond the ring, the world brims with imagination. While the term 'monsters' might remind you of a fantasy RPG, here they are enemies with flamboyant costumes and larger than life personas. Allies, too, come in the form of other wrestling personalities. Some based on real-life legends like André the Giant and Jake the Snake Roberts. WrestleQuest is a vibrant blend of the real and surreal. While offering a fresh look on the wrestling domain. To top it off, WrestleQuest is a salute to the wrestling greats. As you navigate through challenges and milestones, you'll find nods to iconic figures such as Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, and Jeff Jarrett, to name a few. It's not just about the thrill of the fight; it's also a journey through the hall of fame. While paying respect to those who have laid the groundwork for the sport.
Player Feedback:
Many players were excited about the blend of wrestling and RPG elements in WrestleQuest. However, they found the frequent Quick Time Events (QTEs) in battles to be tedious. Although the music and art were praised, some areas lacked music and the character movement was deemed slow. The inclusion of real-life podcasters was debatable. Players also reported bugs, and some feel that WrestleQuest would benefit from early access feedback. However, wrestling fans like the nostalgia, character cameos, and the game's overall concept. Overall, it's a mix with good aesthetics but some gameplay frustrations. WrestleQuest pro wrestling and RPG is more than just a pastime. It's a bridge connecting the fantasy of role-playing with the adrenaline of wrestling. All while paying tribute to the legends that have shaped the wrestling universe. So, if you're keen to step beyond the ropes and test your mettle, this might just be your next big challenge. Launching on Steam and Humble Store. Priced at $29.99 USD / £21.99 / 29,99€. Along with support for Linux and Windows PC.

JAMES DALLAS 'LIFE FORMS’ (1982)
James Dallas is a talented producer, songwriter and saxophonist from Milwaukee. He started playing the clarinet in Junior High School at the age of thirteen, during this time public schools would loan students an instrument who could not afford their own. James originally requested an alto saxophone but none of those were available. In 1967 he got his hands on a baritone saxophone…and it became his main instrument for the next 15 years.
Dallas decided to pursue a career in entertainment (influenced by his parents who allowed him to play in a professional R&B band at the age of 14) and was possessed by an exceptional drive to excel in music. James wanting to showcase his talents as a multi-instrumentalist led him to his pursuit in playing the flute, various forms of the piano…and of course all the saxes & clarinets.
Soon he started playing with local bands and solo artists in the jazz & blues scene, he even participated on several recordings (mostly as part of the horn section)…but things really started to take of when James (together with his brother Chris and his cousin Kevin) started the outfit Heavy Weather. Most of the other bandmembers where his friends and would later become regular players on Dallas’ two solo albums ‘Life Forms’ (1982) and ‘Here And Now’ (1984).
The album we are proudly presenting you today: Life Forms (1982) was James Dallas debut album. Recorded at Mauer Brothers’ Studio and completely self-funded with the help and encouragement of his peers and family. Dallas paid for all the recording time and the privately pressed 1000 copies of the album…back then he could not have imagined that decades later it would become a much sought-after collectible that fetches high prices.
On Life Forms James Dallas is joined by a top cast of musicians such as Earl Thompson on percussion, Myron McClain and Noland Clark on drums, Rick Lacey and Robert Walls Jr. on guitar, Jake Simmons and Kevin Whitehead on bass. Kevin Whitehead (who is James’ cousin and known for his work with Ben Webster, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Sun Ra and Pharoah Sanders) also wrote a track for the album. The whole venture truly is a family affair because James’ brother Christopher can also be heard on keyboards and the album design was handled by his other brother Calvin.
James Dallas surely deserves the title of ‘multi-instrumentalist’ because not only did he compose the majority of the songs (and produced the whole album) but next to his trademark soprano saxophone work, he also took care of playing the electric piano, flute, vocoder and keyboards.
The six songs on the fantastic Life Forms album are a heavy mix of mind-blowing funk, fusion and Vocoder/Odyssey synth extravaganza. If you are a serious collector or a smooth jazz underground enthusiast, then this is the thing for you! Also included is the magnificent ‘Sidetrack’ song that was included on the Numero compilation ‘NuLeaf’ released in 2020.
Tidal Waves Music (in collaboration with The Numero Group) now proudly presents the FIRST ever vinyl reissue of this iconic Jazz-Funk-Soul fusion album (original copies tend to go for large amounts on the secondary market) originally released in 1982 as a private pressing and now finally back available as a limited 180g vinyl edition (limited to 500 copies) complete with the original artwork and obi strip.
