The Saga of Starro the Conqueror [Part 1: The Main Man (frackin’ bastich!)]
[All images are owned by DC Comics and Warner Bros Discovery. I hope I’m too small-fry to sue...]
(All videos are courtesy of The Night Beyond)
This review introduces the Justice League’s first opponent as a team...
Tumblr media
(Thanks to Wikipedia)
...Starro the Conqueror, who has the ability to take over the mind of anyone it or its mini-clones (which it calls “spores”) come in contact with.
The first half of Starro’s saga doesn’t actually focus on Starro, but instead introduces another DC Comics character into the Dini-verse...
Tumblr media
(Thanks to Collider)
Lobo (whose name roughly translates to “He who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it” (that little tidbit never made it to TV for obvious reasons)) was originally a parody of the “grim and gritty” comic book characters of the 90s (and, not surprisingly, was embraced by the same fans the character was supposed to mock) He’s the last of his race (due to the fact that he killed the rest) and operates as an interstellar bounty hunter.
OK enough backstory...except a tidbit I forgot to mention in the original series review: Superman is voiced by Tim Daly (who played Joe Hackett in Wings, as well as voicing Superman in several other DC Animation projects)
Now, on to the review! If you would like to watch the episode, you can do so at B98.
Tumblr media
We open to the desert, where Professor Emil Hamilton and his team are testing a rocket manned by Superman.
Tumblr media
It turns out the rocket is Kryptonian in origin (built by Jor-El and designed for a very small passenger) and was refitted by Prof. Hamilton’s team for space travel with an adult occupant.
Tumblr media
We then cut to another world, where Lobo is on the job and, in his usual subtle fashion, shoots up a bar while looking for his quarry. He catches his bounty, a rodent-like alien named Sqweek, and is about to return to collect payment when...
Tumblr media
...Sqweek’s brother shows up, looking to collect. Needless to say, Lobo makes short work of him and his friends. He then calls for his Hawg...
Tumblr media
...and jets off. I think you can see why he was so popular. I mean, he’s no Deadpool, but who is?
However, on his way to collect, he gets another job offer from...
Tumblr media
...and entity known as “The Preserver”, who collects the last members of their race in a sort of zoo.
Tumblr media
(Now why does that look familiar?)
The Preserver wants Lobo to collect the last Kryptonian.
Tumblr media
Soon enough, Lobo makes the 6:00 news and starts shooting up downtown Metropolis (subtle Lobo ain’t), which draws out Superman.
youtube
With that, Lobo decides to leave while he comes up with a new strategy (other than “straight at ‘em”), but Superman doesn’t give him a chance as...
Tumblr media
...he borrows his rocket back from Prof. Hamilton (and Hamilton got him a spacesuit with his emblem on it, too!) in order to drive off Lobo before he can return.
Tumblr media
Too bad Lobo found him first. The pair tussle until they are within range of the Preserver’s ship. The Preserver then teleports the pair onto his ship...
Tumblr media
...and throws Superman into a cell with an emitter that gives of Red Sun radiation (neutralizing Superman’s powers) Lobo then asks for payment.
Yeah...about that...
Remember what I said at the beginning of this review about Lobo killing off the rest of his race? That would make him the last member, wouldn’t it?
Tumblr media
Aaaaaand one more for the Preserver’s collection as the episode ends on a cliffhanger! The conclusion is also available on B98.
Tumblr media
In an effort to be magnanimous...
Tumblr media
...the Preserver has returned Superman’s costume to him (I mean, the least he can do is make sure his specimens are comfortable)
Tumblr media
Lobo is certainly comfortable...
Tumblr media
...at least until he acts up.
Then Superman gets an idea after surveying his surroundings...
youtube
About that time, the Preserver’s drones arrive.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that’s about the size of it. Lobo grabs Sqweek on their way to the hanger for their rides.
Unfortunately...
Tumblr media
Sqweek’s brother still wants to collect that bounty.
Tumblr media
...yeah
This draws out the Preserver, who demands that Superman and Lobo return to their cells. When they refuse...
youtube
So instead of all those creatures being held captive on a ship in deep space, they’re being held captive in the Arctic Circle. Not sure how that’s an improvement.
But what about Starro? I mean, it was in this story for all of a second. I thought I said this was its saga.
Well, you’ll have to come back next week for the conclusion!

Superman: Peace on Earth
Tumblr media
A treasury giant prestige format 64-page graphic novel published by DC Comics in November 1998. The Man of Steel in an oversized one-shot featuring a cardstock cover with a metallic fifth-color ink. As the holiday season approaches, Clark Kent reflects on the poverty suffered by so many throughout the world and decides to use his vast power to feed the starving and impoverished masses. As Superman sets out to accomplish the impossible, he encounters unexpected resistance to his humanitarian efforts.
Paul Dini & Alex Ross
**Yes these are so huge I love them and have them protected so I cannot show back or inside pages! It took me forever to get them. Wonder woman was a hardcover reprint. My scanner is only 11x17 and these are bigger than that not sure exact size lol

Honestly no matter what weird ass moves the Harley Quinn show makes, I will always appreciate that it’s pretty much the only spin off media that doesnt treat Barbara like the Bat-Boys’ bicycle.

Hallo!! So you replied to me on twitter the other day with your Batman Comic list thingy (its late and im tired while asking this) and I was wanting to ask if you know any really good Mr. Freeze comics I should look for and read? Love that dude fr
Hi! I'm happy to!
so the tl;dr on Mr. Freeze is that he's basically a totally different character in comics that came out before the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Heart of Ice" in 1992 than in comics that came out after that episode. The DCAU version is really the definitive version of the character, and the popularity of that portrayal changed how he was portrayed in comics afterwards. And honestly...the majority of his good stories have been told within the DCAU and its various connected comics. He's unfortunately an extremely underutilized villain in the comics even after BTAS made him popular. So, that being said, here's a few good Mr. Freeze stories.
DCAU-verse:
Batman: The Animated Series S1 Ep. 14, "Heart of Ice"
Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero
The Batman Adventures: Sub-Zero
The Batman Adventures: Dangerous Dames & Demons
Batman: Gotham Adventures #1, 5, 40, 43, 45, 51, 53
Many of Freeze's major non-DCAU comic appearances can be found in Batman Arkham: Mr. Freeze, and here's a list of his most prominent (and decently-written) appearances in the comics:
Batman (1940) #121 (Freeze's first appearance)
Detective Comics (1937) #373
Batman: Mr. Freeze (by Paul Dini)
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #190-196, "Cold Snap" and "Snow"
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #201-203, "Cold Case"
Gotham Central #1-2, "In the Line of Duty"
Batman: Gotham Knights #59, "Fire and Ice"
Batman: One Bad Day: Mr. Freeze
He also shows up as the co-villain (along with Penguin) in the Detective Comics "City of Crime" storyline (Detective Comics #800-808, #811-814) and as a supporting villain in the final arc of Cassandra Cain's Batgirl solo, Batgirl (2000) #65-73.
Hope this helps, and have fun reading!

I don't think it's fair to say that people only like WFA if they prefer the fanon, idealized versions of Batfam characters.
More rambling about comics and fandom under the cut, but the tldr version is that a) sometimes people want slice-of-life stuff for their favorite characters and b) if I have to put up with Dark and Gritty, unnaturally-prepared, child-slapping Batman, fans of that guy can put up with some light and fluffy manor hijinks like WFA.
Yes, there is an active and vocal portion of DC fandom that wants things from canon that will never happen. Partially that's because fandoms typically always want things from canon that would never happen. Teen Wolf and SPN fans want a coherent narrative that actually addresses the themes and character choices portrayed on the show. CA:TWS fans want to dig their claws into Steve and Bucky's relationship AND the US Military Industrial Complex in a way that the MCU never will. Stranger Things fans want some honest-to-God character development. And part of what I see in DC fandom is similar: what do fans of works where the characters are constantly emotionally and physically stressed want from their fanworks? Hurt/COMFORT and/or curtain!fic, in my experience.
And yes, partially that's because there seems to be a large portion of DC fandom that have not read a significant portion of the comics.* And/or watched the tv show(s). And/or watched the movie(s). And fanon builds on fanon until suddenly Tim Drake is crying because no one has ever hugged him, Cas/Steph/Duke are Sir Not Appearing in this Film, Jason is Gotham's #1 feminist, Dick is a golden retriever in human form, Damain is baby™, and Bruce would NEVER endanger his children by letting them go out and fight crime. But that happens in every fandom, to some extent.
I think it's perhaps more pronounced in DC because it's a comics fandom without any one unifying canon that most people are drawing from. For good or for ill, the Marvel fandom is typically able to circle the wagons around the MCU, with people incorporating various aspects of the 616 or Fraction's Hawkeye or whatever Spider-Man movie's come out most recently. DC doesn't have that. There's 80+ years of comics, including reboots that are supposed to make things less confusing (but YMMV on the effectiveness of that), and characterizations that change with the times; CW live-action TV shows; the Snyder-verse live-action movies; the NON-Snyder-verse live-action movies; the DCAU or Dini-verse/Timm-verse; the DC animated movies that are generally adaptations of comic storylines; the 2005 Teen Titans animated show; the 2010 Young Justice animated show; TITANS; The Batman (the animated show!); The Batman (R. Battinson!); Gotham; Smallville; Lois and Clark; etc, etc, etc.
I came to comics from the DCAU. I watched Smallville far past the point where any reasonable person would have quit. When I first watched 1978's Superman, I was confused that John Kent was dead, because he wasn't in the canons I was most familiar with. It's obviously not a 1:1 comparison, but I do think the question of "what do you want from canon" depends on what canon you're talking about.
And I don't mean to sound like I'm coming down on the side of people who are only familiar with fanon trying to argue they know the characters better than people who've actually consumed canon. But I do think DC being such a broad canon with no unifying property makes it a difficult discussion to have unless you start off by identifying the parameters.
ANYWAY, the point I've been dancing around is that there's enough canon that when someone says "MY Batman would never do that", they might be talking about their fanon or they might be talking about animated show #903 or the Tim Burton movies or whatever. Also, I had to put up with Nolan!Batman being the Batman du jour for like 10 years. It's WAFF WFA Batman's turn to be in the spotlight for a hot minute.
(Also, as greater minds than mine have pointed out, comics are, in general, a collective mythology of the modern era. And if you've ever tried to look up the One True Version of a myth, you'll know it's a frustrating exercise in futility)
*Of course, there's also a question of "what counts as a significant portion of the comics". Someone semi-recently ran a poll of "would you say you've read a lot of comics" and I was torn because I've read a lot, but in fits and spurts over the last 20 years, based on what was available at my local library or bookstore, and with nowhere near the focused attention that others have managed.

DC Universe Holiday Special #1 (2008)
Another of my favourite Christmas Specials.
The Man In Red – Santa Claus. An origin story for Santa Claus, modelled on Clark’s histoy. (Hits all the beats of a Last Son of Krypton recounting)
Somewhere Beyond the Sea – Aquaman! You know who I haven’t seen in any of the compilations yet? Arthur! We’ve had Garth, but no Arthur. In any case this is uh quite a story. Arthur rescues a couple lost at sea in a boat, the woman extremely pregnant. He's guided to shore by his father's lighthouse...only to realise it was a star behind the lighthouse, not the lighthouse itself. When the couple gets ashore they're met by two men 'dressed like kings' (this is the point when I groaned). Yes, Arthur's the third Magi/Wise Man here.
Tumblr media
Instinctively, willingly, I join them and knee before her and her unborn child. I look at the other men, who came bearing gifts. I feel ashamed because... "I'm sorry. I have no gifts to give." "No, Sea King, you gave me the most important gift of all." They walk away. I know I will never see her again, never meet her child, I should feel empty, but this is the most special of nights. I fight every urge to join them. Instead I make my way to my one true home, the sea.
Good King Wenceslas – this is a Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen team, if you need selling on it. It's just the main verses of the Christmas Carol, but it's done as an Elseworlds where the King is the Bat and the Page is a Robin (The peasant is Alfred).
A Day Without Sirens – Commissioner Gordon, Batman, Oracle. The premise is the city bands together for a day without the need for emergency calls or police intervention. Jim gets a little bit of hope (Oracle actually diverted the phones for a day and had Supergirl doing all the work, as a Christmas present for her dad).
Reminiscent of and in conversation with The Silent Night of the Batman from Batman #219.
It’s a Wonderful Night – Nightwing and Robin. This one I know inside and out. Tim goes to a Christmas Eve showing of It’s a Wonderful Life because it was Jack’s favourite Christmas movie. He runs into Owen Mercer there for the same reason, which makes things awkward as their dads killed each other. Dick, who’s been looking for Tim, arrives and gives Tim his Christmas present: one of Dick’s original costumes, a gift that he manages to sneak in RIGHT under the deadline of oncoming events, as Battle for the Cowl starts only three months later.
Christmas With The Beetles – Blue Beetle. The story of four generations of a criminal family and breaking the cycle, through the lens of three generations of Blue Beetle. (It's sweet. It's exactly the sort of ethos I love to see in a Blue Beetle story).
An Angel Told Me – Huntress. 'Teacher!Helena and her students'. In this one Helena lends a hand to one of her students, Alejandro, who is about to be suspended for bullying and who has an abusive homelife. She gets the kid's father locked up for drug possession and illegal firearms, so he'll be placed in care with his grandmother, and gets his suspension transferred to helping her with the 'Reach' program, which is community assistance for disabled students. (The depiction of autism in this is very stereotyped, and it's clearly not the ONLY disability in play)
The Night Before Christmas – Teen Titans. They all go to a Christmas market.
Jaime and Traci are an adorable couple in this.
Tumblr media
But the meat of the story is Cassie and Tim, who are both more settled now, after One Year Later has finally fully spooled out, and able to talk about their losses.
Tumblr media
(Also I've always adored the art and colour in this story, which is by Michael Dimotta and of a style you really don't see in superhero comics much)
Party Animal – JLA. John Stewart and Roy Harper capture Shaggyman right during the start of the JLA holiday party. Vixen, who's organising it, orders them both up there asap so the two decide to bring Shaggy along.
It's very much an office party.
Let There Be Light – Doctor Light. This is basically a character history piece of Kimiyo Hoshi for people unfamiliar with her backstory and motivations. The villain fight she's in knocks out the Metropolis power grid, so Doctor Light turns it back on.

i think i’m on episode 7 or 8! i really really really really really like terry. he’s so…i don’t really have the words to describe him that well bc i’m still learning his character but i do like him a lot and he is my emo bf. bruce wayne could still get it even at his rickety age idc. victor fries (mr. freeze) is one of my fave dc villains, he’s always evil but also teeter tottering on “morally grey” and i like that so i’m so glad he made an appearance this early on in the show. i also really liked inque’s powers and she was really kicking ass like when terry was like “i take it u don’t like water” or smth and then she went into the grout around the pool and blew up the pool or whatever ??? like yeah i was rooting for terry but i have to give credit where credit is due. i also really like the jokerz, not as actual villains but its funny that this random gang of people think they’re evil fr when they could never ever touch the actual jokers level of villainy and even bruce acknowledges that when him and terry are taking them down together. i also really like the art style, it reminds of some of my absolute fave cartoons and it has that late 90s early 2000’s graininess that’s so nostalgic. literally about to get a little snacky snack and then tune in again
-ivysangel
i wanna put terry in my mouth and chew him tbh and he is so emo bf youre right. also calling bruce "rickety" made me blow air out my nose
i do adore mr freeze :) i love that he was included, i especially love his voice actor i think he does such an incredible job with victor fries. my favorite depictions of him always include his aversion to actual crime lords bcos he thinks of them pretentious self assured simpletons. sure he kills people sometimes, but he doesn't suck his own dick about it, hes here with a righteous purpose! telling this shit to himself as if hes not self assured. i dig it. uses his wife as a scapegoat a lot of the time, like when was the last time he asked nora what she wanted? hes so funny
inque! my darling inque. truly her character design is superior. smooth, easy to read. shifts between human and entity. she's very defined as a villain tbh, someone interesting to watch without needing to name drop one of batman's past villains for views, you know? she's sick as fuck tbh, her statements always rock like the pool one.
"its funny that this random gang of people think they’re evil fr when they could never ever touch the actual jokers level of villainy and even bruce acknowledges that" this
i adore the art style, im pretty sure its bcos the same guys that worked on batman: the animated series went on to create batman beyond, so it's familiar. also they and the justice league (2001) + unlimited are a part of the dini-verse/timm-verse which is paul dini and bruce timm who've worked on those projects and exist on one plane.
i hope u enjoy your snacky snack im rly happy youre enjoying the show

What "style" of each Rogue are you using? Obviously there's tons of Arkham Games influence, as well as chunks of the comics, but what continuity supplies each characters main look, so to speak?
Yeah, I do use a blend of Arkhamverse and comics, with a bit of the DCAU thrown in for appearances. For the Rogues that have appeared so far...
Edward
Tumblr media
Imagine him with auburn hair and green eyes and this is Ed.
Tumblr media
This is the closest to what I imagine pre-Croc Jonathan looked like.
Tumblr media
Joker is pure Arkham verse.
Tumblr media
Harley and Ivy look like how they did in Gotham City Sirens.
Tumblr media
Darwyn Cooke's Selina is peak Selina design and how I imagine her.
Tumblr media
Oswald's appearance is from Dini's Batman run. Never liked the Arkhamverse look for him.
Harvey and Croc are Arkhamverse, Bane is Knightfall, and Jervis is a shorter version of his look from the animated series.

The final fates of Dini-verse villains part 3: Meltdown (What is it they say about revenge?)
[All images are owned by DC Comics and WarnerMedia. I hope I’m too small-fry to sue...]
This review covers the last of the “modern” Dini-verse villains whose fate was revealed in the time of Batman Beyond, and the villain whose story in the most tragic...
Tumblr media
Dr. Victor Fries, AKA Mr. Freeze
Prior to his first appearance in Batman: the Animated Series, Mr. Freeze was barely a blip on the radar for most fans of the Dark Knight, a thief who used his gains to power an environmental suit that kept his body at the sub-zero temperatures he needed to survive. However, it was in the Dini-verse that he was given the tragic origin fans know today: In an effort to save his dying wife Nora by preserving her cryogenically, an accident changed Fries’s body chemistry, making it impossible for him to survive in temperatures above freezing.
Nora would eventually be cured, but not before...
Tumblr media
...Fries’s body deteriorated, leaving only his head alive.
In this incarnation, Freeze’s two motivations are a desire to cure his wife (usually committing crimes to fund his research) and revenge against any who he believes to have wronged him. The writers did a hell of a job making Freeze one of the most sympathetic (and complex) villains in Batman’s lineup.
Which catches us up. If you would like to watch the episode, it’s available on HBO Max with a subscription, or if you don’t (like me), you can find it on Amazon Prime behind the paywall.
PREVIOUSLY ON...
Tumblr media
Derek Powers, who managed to take over control of Wayne Enterprises from Bruce Wayne (renaming it Wayne-Powers) and later ordered the murder of Terry’s father, was caught in a nerve gas explosion while fighting Batman. The radiation treatment, combined with the damage already caused by the nerve gas, transformed him into...
Tumblr media
...a walking atomic reactor. Powers wears a polymer “skin suit” that contains the radiation and helps maintain his secret from the public. He has since been trying to reverse the metamorphosis.
Tumblr media
We open on the Gotham waterfront...
Tumblr media
...where Batman is taking Geiger counter readings, revealing where Wayne-Powers has been illegally disposing of radioactive waste. As he does so, a truck bringing in more waste for a burial at sea arrives.
Tumblr media
Batman turns on stealth mode (why doesn’t he always have that mode on?) and makes short work of the crew, leaving them for the Harbor Patrol to find. He finds a cell phone on the head goon and calls the number on it. Three guesses who picks up.
Tumblr media
Needless to say, Powers isn’t happy about this wrinkle in his plan...
Tumblr media
...and the stress causes wrinkles in his skin suit.
Tumblr media
In his R&D lab, Powers isn’t happy that his skin suits wear out so quickly. His scientists claim the radiation in his body is growing stronger. He’s about to go nuclear (figuratively and literally) on them when he’s approached by the newest member of the team...
Tumblr media
...Dr. Stephanie Lake, who proposes cloning a new body (without the radioactivity) for Powers and placing his consciousness inside of it. Powers is interested, though Dr. Lake wants to test the process first on another person whose body was transformed similar to Powers. Given the subject earlier in this review, I’m sure you can guess who that is.
youtube
(Thanks to The Night Beyond)
The next day, Terry wants to take Dana out for an after-school date when...
Tumblr media
Man, Bruce doesn’t let him get a moment to himself, does he?
Bruce shows Terry a video of Derek Powers announcing to the press about Victor Fries’s rebirth. Wayne doesn’t trust Fries or Powers and wants Terry to shadow Fries in case he shows signs of returning to crime.
In stealth mode, Batman observes such hideously criminal act as...
Tumblr media
...saving a cat from an oncoming train...
Tumblr media
...and visiting his own grave (where his old head was buried)
Tumblr media
Then Batman spots a man in a ski mask aiming for Fries!
Tumblr media
Batman makes short work of the gunman, who is revealed to be one of his victims many years ago.
Tumblr media
Fries forgives the man for attempting to kill him, hoping the man will forgive him for what he’s done.
Tumblr media
The next day, Fries announces that he is using his legitimate earnings from his time before the accident (that, with interests and a team of financial planners over 50 years, amounts to half a billion dollars) to help the people he’s hurt over the years and their families.
Tumblr media
Bruce, of course, still doesn’t trust Fries. However, Terry doesn’t share Bruce’s opinion and is willing to give Fries the benefit of the doubt.
Tumblr media
After the telecast, Fries starts noticing it getting a bit warm. He steps outside and (despite the fact that it’s snowing)...
Tumblr media
...is sweating profusely!
Fries rushes back to Wayne-Powers, where Dr. Lake places him in a temperature-controlled room. After running some tests, she finds that Fries’s body has started showing signs that his condition is returning. Powers wants to examine his body to find out why...
Tumblr media
...and Dr. Lake is all too happy to comply, turning the temperature up high enough to kill Fries! However...
Tumblr media
...Victor Fries is nothing if not a survivor! After breaking free from his tropical hell, he staggers out into the snow.
With Fries on the run, Bruce and Batman continue their debate about him. Batman thinks Fries has fled (to where? He’s naked and needs sub-zero temperatures to survive), while Bruce isn’t so sure.
(Remember what I said earlier about those who wrong Victor Fries?)
Powers and Dr. Lake are still on the hunt for Fries when...
Tumblr media
...the corridor is filled with giant ice spikes! Powers and Dr. Lake run for cover until...
Tumblr media
“Something I kept in cold storage” (Really Victor? Leave the cold puns to Captain Cold)
Dr. Lake tries to distract Freeze so Powers can escape, but...
Tumblr media
With Powers on ice (sorry), Freeze turns his attention to Dr. Lake.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m not saying Freeze outright murdered her on a kids’ show...actually, yes I am.
With those who wronged him dealt with, Freeze turns his attention to Wayne-Powers itself, making short work of the security forces. However...
Tumblr media
...Powers isn’t done yet.
youtube
(Thanks again to The Night Beyond)
Yes, this is the debut of Derek Powers taking on the name Blight (though it won’t be until the end of the season before his identity goes public)
Terry learned it’s impossible to save someone who’s determined to not be saved, and we have a tragic end to a tragic character.

💙 Crystalline Heart 💙
Tumblr media
Atreus’ spell - Crystalline Heart
This spell is basically a Crystal attribute spell which only use one time. This spell also have different variations - sibling bond, friendship, and familial love, and soul mate.
The soul mate variation is basically like a gift for the one you see as your soul mate. But if your soul mate break it by cheating or have not share the same feeling. You become emotionless/heartless. The cure is when someone who show you the meaning of love.
Atreus used this spell, the sibling bond & familial love twice…. One time for the Starco kid, Xandria (however he lost access to her verse and it is believe her existence and her universe is erased. He was depressed afterward after finding out about this news from Omnitraxus Prime. Xandria belongs to princess—xandria, however that Tumblr blog is deleted because they moved on from the SVTFOE Fandom. That is why I typed this information on Xandria’s fate), and the second time is for his siblings as a gift to celebrated the 4th anniversary of the Starbulus Club - Prima @tolstolobik, Nightmare @lloydicnakydrawingofficiel, Rhomby and Rhombina @mokstagger, Oscar @skullsenpai, Danna @pigeons-svtfoe-au, Santos @danis-dinis-d, Kite & Doru @idontnowhownameuser, and the other Starbulus siblings.
Credit for the title, Crystalline Heart goes to @nelumbo-lutea.

Batman - One Bad Day: Mr. Freeze.
okay so. let's start with the good things? i very much like the art style and how it was painted. it looks very crunchy, dynamic, solid and expressive, and the designs are delicious. i love how freeze's first suit was inspired by btas, while the more tech-y one gave me a batman beyond vibe. batman himself was written out to be very interesting to read in this verse, especially because of his lack of clear communication and the fact that robin had to basically translate him for people more than once lol. robin was adorable and i feel him. freeze's expressions in Some panels were hilarious to me as a vic writter personally because, yeah. Yeah. thats a freeze body language alright
now onto the bad things: while paul dini's 1997 comic on mr. freeze is a classic, i don't find it very fitting in a more general sense. and i do get the feeling this is the angle this new particular script writer was going for in here too. my issue is that the whole point of freeze's character is that it's a tragic story about love. true love even, or perhaps a man who feels he doesn't have a choice and is forced (from his perspective) to hurt others in order to achieve his goal. he doesn't enjoy hurting people. he doesn't want this life of crime. all he wants is for his wife, his only love, to have a long, happy and healthy life, even if that could still mean she'd one day choose to leave him behind. you're supposed to sympathize with the character, to see him as more morally neutral and to some point even question batman's actions to put him behind bars? he is an anti-villain, not a villain, for a reason.
of course he's done terrible things and i don't excuse them, but this is a man who genuinely truly believes he doesn't have a choice in most of the things he does. when presented when a better alternative, one which is potentially less harmful for anyone, he is known to take it. he was someone who was supposedly a good person before the incident at gothcorp, someone who wanted to help people and the world, but has since started seeing everything more negatively and has started reacting with rage towards anything he may find threatening enough. this is obviously extremely unhealthy, and he definitely needs proper therapy and someone to work with him through all of it if possible.
however, the way i see it, this is a character who would definitely try to improve and better himself positively if given the chance. he craves that sense of normalcy and a less extreme lifestyle. even though he has a list of priorities, nora being at the very top, he would also much rather have what he used to have and be who he used to be, rather than what he has turned into.
the very end was probably the thing that made all of these aforementioned strikes a touch more salvageable for me. he's apprently decided to move on, to maybe improve, to do something good after so long. he feels more free, more human, and it could be a big step in the right direction both for him, and for the characterization as a whole.

Enjoyed those master posts you did for She-Hulk, Wonder Woman and X-Men. When you have the time would you be able to make one for Catwoman? Thanks.
I'm not as well versed with Catwoman as the others mentioned, but I do know a thing or two about a thing or two.
Catwoman: When in Rome
Tumblr media
Jeph Loeb's spin off/side story to his Long Halloween stuff is pretty great and also art by Tim Sale is stellar. She also appears in Batman Long Halloween and Dark Victory so if you want some more Selina by this duo check those out.
Catwoman by Jim Balent.
Tumblr media
Some 90s cheese for ya. Its not her best comics, but it has that 90s charm you can't get anywhere else.
Catwoman by Ed Brubaker
Tumblr media
This.
This right here.
A+. Top tier Catwoman comics right here boy. Brubaker wrote the best Catwoman book by a large margin. Plus with some art by Darwyn Cooke and Cameron Stewart you honestly can't find better comics with Selina.
Gotham City Sirens
Tumblr media
DC finally put the evil gotham women in one book and its pretty decent. The first half is written by Harley creator, underrated Batman writer and fellow Zatanna enjoyer Paul Dini and is a fun ride with Gotham's fearsome fatals. Also how the fuck has DC never relaunched this? Are they stupid or somthin? (answer: yes)
Catwoman New52
Tumblr media
Imma be real with her and this might come off as shocking, but....New52 was kinda bad. I know utterly surpising. Anyway Catwoman New52 isn't great. I'd even say its kinda bad. Though I will say it does get decent at volume 6 so if your interested in this era of DC Selina I'd say start from there.
Batman by Tom King
Tumblr media
Listen. I know what your thinking. Tom King's Batman isn't exactly flawless. In fact some of it is absolute trash. However its not with its high moments.
King's Batman is best enjoyed reading specific parts of. War of Riddles & Jokes, Cold Days , Annual #2 and Super Friends are legitimately fantastic. Now what does this have to do with Selina? Well she appears very regularly in this book. Unfortunately the way King writes Selina and Bruce's relationship is...grating if not annoying. And also unfortunately Selina appears in the worst of this book (remember the wedding?), but she does appear in eh previously mentioned Super Friends arc which is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
However at times you might find yourself absolutely hating Bruce and Selina as a couple cus King just writes it like.......that.
So yeah.
Catwoman (2018)
Tumblr media
In 2018 Joelle Jones re-launched Catwoman and...its boring. Good art, but boring. Its not until Ram V took up writing is when the book gets good. So if your gonna read this read V's stuff.
Batman/Catwoman
Tumblr media
Another Tom King book. And just like his Batman this one is mixed. It has pretty much all the issues his Batman run has so if you hated that book this won't change your mind. The thing that makes this book interesting though is that its non canon (that is until DC decides it isn't) so it has some unique stuff happen in it so....eh I guess its worth reading I suppose.
Das about all I know. Happy readings.

Verses from the Holy Quran, the holy book of Islam:
"We certainly created man from a (filtered) extract of clay.
Then we made him (the progeny of Prophet Adam) into a sperm (zygote) in a solid and firm headquarters (womb).
Then We made that sperm into alaqah (sticky thing), Then we made that piece of meat into mudga (a chewy piece of meat), and turned that piece of meat into bones (and) clothed those bones with flesh (muscles).
Then we built it with a different creation (we gave it life and speech)..."
( Believer, 23/12-14).
......
İslam dini kutsal kitabı Kur'an'ı Kerim'den, ayetler:
"Andolsun biz insanı çamurdan (süzülmüş) bir hülasadan yarattık.
Sonra onu (Hz. Âdem'in nesli olan) insanı sarp ve metin bir karargahta (rahimde) bir nutfe (zigot) yaptık.
Sonra o nutfeyi alaka (yapışan şey) haline getirdik, derken o alakayı mudga (bir çiğnem et) yaptık, o bir çiğnem eti kemik(lere) çevirdik (ve) o kemiklere de et (kaslar) giydirdik.
Sonra onu başka yaratılışla inşa ettik (can verdik, konuşma verdik)..."
(Mü'minun, 23/12-14).
