Tricky gets picked on from the recently unearthed ‘Dinosaur Planet’ on the N64, the precursor to ‘Star Fox Adventures’, released by @forestillusion. In the final game this happens almost exactly how it does here, just with more fidelity.

I miss the Star Fox series...
Been reminiscing on the GameCube entries a lot these past few weeks, and thinking about the dumpster fire that was Star Fox Zero. Nintendo just doesn’t seem understand or even give a shit why weirdos like me enjoyed 64, Adventures, and especially Assault. No idea if the Star Fox Assault devs are still at Bandai Namco but I would love for them to get another crack at the series. They were the only ones daring enough to not just make Andross the villain again! lol

VGHF Fundraiser Day 5: Live from E3 2000!
youtube
OH BOY. Today for our annual fundraiser, we're sharing 2½ HOURS of footage from E3 2000!
These videos come to us from Mark Flitman, a video game producer who, at the time, was working for a small company called NuFX. Mark and his colleagues filmed just about everything on display at E3. This footage includes a look at Nintendo’s booth (featuring Banjo-Tooie and the never-released Dinosaur Planet for Nintendo 64) and the famous first trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
I haven't combed through every second of this footage, but I guarantee there's some cool stuff in here we've barely seen before. Please share highlights you find!
(They filmed Kentia Hall, which is the weird side section of E3 where the booths were cheaper and the exhibitors could be kinda sketchy! Nobody films Kentia Hall!)
We're only able to preserve videos like these with your support! Our team flew out to Mark Flitman's house to digitize these and other videos, and it's not cheap! If you enjoy this video, please consider donating to our winter pledge drive! We're raising money to keep things running for another year, and we need your support to preserve more finds like this!

I love Hollow World. Deep irony here, because I kind of hate how versions of real world cultures crept into Forgotten Realms, and here I am being all “The Known World, which is a collection of fantasified real world cultures is the best” but taste is weird like that.
Hollow World spins out of the Gazetteers, a popular series of sourcebooks that, practically country by country, detailed pretty much the known entirety of the Known World. Having run out of stuff to cover on the outside, Bruce Heard and Aaron Allston decided that the Known World was hollow and started in on the inside. To my knowledge, this is the first time in RPGs that a hollow planet is investigated, which seems strange considering how large the concept looms in 19th and early 20th century fantasy and science fiction.
There’s all sorts of awesome, pulpy stuff down there (including an interior sun — this ain’t no Underdark). The inside is populated by surface cultures that were on the verge of extinction. Rather than let that happen, the Immortals brought them inside, so you you have fantasy Aztecs and fantasy Egyptians and fantasy Greeks alongside stuff like talking dinosaur gods and pirates and more (and, in a couple years, Alphatians too, after the events of the Wrath of Immortals box, which I covered back in January).
The thing is jam packed, too. Maps of course, a 128-page book for the DM, 64-page book for the players and a 32-pager of adventures. The packaging is half the fun, I love how the covers of all the Hollow World books have the big hollow globe. Something about the lady evokes the idea of Vril energy and all that nonsense. Baxa does a lot of the interior art.
Also, did I mention: TALKING T-REX GOD?

What I'd Hope A Star Fox Adventures Remake Would Be Like
I use tumblr as a dumping ground for my thoughts on various things. I fully believe no one would care enough to read any of this even if they did stumble on it at random. So that's why I'm slapping this post in. Just to get it out of my head because I'm frustrated there's no Star Fox on Switch... yet. There's very little hope but there is maybe like a 0.01% chance we'd get a Star Fox game.
For the past two weeks I've been thinking about Star Fox Adventures, my favorite Star Fox game because dinosaurs, staff combat, and collectables. However, the more I think about it the more major problems with the game make themselves known.
Such as Krystal being stuck inside a crystal for the entire game until the end where she joins Fox's crew without proving her qualifications. Along with Falco who just shows up. When and why did he just appear for no reason?
This is why I think Star Fox Adventures should have a full blown reassembly remake full new game with same name. Much like Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Zero.... Look, if Nintendo is willing to remake the first Star Fox they can do the same for the other three in the franchise.
It is my understanding that majority of Star Fox fans love the 3 branching paths from the first game. Therefore I think it would be a good idea to implement 3 paths with Adventures. BUT the paths are based on the character you choose. Those being Fox, Krystal, and Falco.
The reason for this is to give each of them their own story line instead of Fox soloing the krazoa spirits and force point temples. As well as give a reason for Falco being near dinosaur planet.
Fox's path might be the easiest with his focus being on collecting Force Point crystals. One for each classical element but different name like Volcano, Ocean, Sky, and Forest. Taking some inspiration from Ocarina of Time but so did the first iteration of the game. It would also be nice to see different Force Point Temples instead of the same two twice. I would also insist Fox have his blaster, keeping it the way it was before but replace staff combat with his Smash Bros set.
I'd also suggest Fox using the snow horn and earth walker as substitute landmasters. Feel like Fox using blasters on top of prehistoric creatures would be more fun. Particularly if you use controls similar to the landmaster for it.
Krystal would be focused on collecting the krazoa spirits because a mysterious mystical entity told her it would help save the planet. Unlike the Gamecube game, Krystal would not be ambushed by some... thing.... and trapped in a crystal. Instead, she continues searching for the spirits, fights sharpclaws with her staff, and returns the spirits to the mystery entity.
Each krazoa spirit would have a trial for her and she could upgrade her staff along the way.
Falco would be stealthier gameplay. Implementing disguise kit and 3D platforming more than the other two. He'd, of course, use the same type of combat Fox has but be faster.
Since the lore says he was bored of Star Fox not getting any jobs, I'd figure him being a solo merc bumming around would do well enough to explain what he was doing prior to dinosaur planet. Keeping the story solution simple, Falco gets hired by an old friend who came across files of Andros making deals with General Scales to supply higher technology on a low tech planet in exchange for magical secrets. Because magic exists in Star Fox universe. What else would krazoa spirits be?
Anyhow, that's how I explain Falco being on dinosaur planet. Just taking up a job to figure out what General Scales is doing now that Andros is (supposed to be) dead.
Not so subtle; Andros is the mysterious entity Krystal been giving krazoa spirits to and the giant monkey is using them to reconstruct himself as a resurrection ritual. Krystal's big boss fight is against Scales who seeks to resurrect Andros to continue their deal and take over dinosaur planet under Andros' empire.
Wanted to give General Scales more menacing presence this time around so I would have him be the big boss of all three paths before the final boss, Andros, which uses arwing gameplay (Krystal uses a cloud runner and her staff). The arwing gameplay reoccurs between land missions (Falco having the most arwing time).
For the most part the game would not be far different than the Gamecube one. However, various additions and small changes would be beneficial.
These are just my ideas for a game I don't think will ever be seen. Think there's a ton of people around the internet doing fan games of Star Fox implementing dinosaur planet with explosions and arwing and landmaster combat. Not sure if they're much better than my ideas of simply adding to the previous game. But it's still more than what Nintendo gives us with Star Fox.
I personally hope we get Adventures and Assault on Switch or at least Assault. Assault was more of a Star Fox game and it continued the story much better. Oh well, there's always 64 with the online subscription...

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you to get to know your mutuals and followers!!
the chain dies with me (unless someone wants to nick this ask prompt thingy) but here we goooooo:
fun times with good friends. whether it be related to danganronpa or my other interests, i love talking about silly ideas and neat concepts with my friends and anyone curious on them. and even if i'm not talking about those things, just hanging out with my friends is never a bad way to spend time!
video games!!! i mean this is kinda a given but i love video games of all sorts, but i'm particularly fond of 3d platformers, role playing games, strategy games, and sandbox games. i'm usually p drawn to anything with a big world to freely roam around!
stuffed animals! i have a bigass wolf plush sitting on my bed, and i have a huge shelf filled with plushies of my various interests. some of my more notable ones are a WoW wyvern, rivet from ratchet&clank, the toriel fangamer plush, and mizutsune and magnamalo from monster hunter!
creativity in all forms! i'm mostly a visual artist (you can find my art tumblr here), but i dabble in writing and game modding as well! mostly been doofing around with my danganronpa oc Maka lately, been having a lot of fun thinking of silly concepts for her in DR1+UDG! hopefully i can get some writing down for some of them this year??? and maybe just get some more art up on my main art blog this year jskhgkds
the cancelled Nintendo 64 video game Dinosaur Planet. yes this gets its own section here because i spent nearly two decades researching this game and you bet your ass i was estatic when the prototype got leaked in 2021. in fact i am going to plug the community website here because i want more people to experience this piece of history even though this is a danganronpa blog.

a celebratory practice piece I made in regards to Estelle Ellis on an interview with the creator of StarFox Event Horizon answering my question about if Krystal would wear a cape. Totally glad to hear that she likely would so here’s Krystal in a cape, gold, and some other StarFoxy things. Fox’s color is taken from Dinosaur Planet 64 since I think he looks better in blue than green. I think it really makes them pop together.

Completely off-topic but I always loved Krystal as a character (telepathic purple space warrior who flies a ship!) and I'm sad the way that they treated her in the series.
Me too. Her concept and design were very appealing to me, I especially liked her look in SFAs, but it was pretty clear nintendo didn’t actually know what it wanted to do with her since she was Rare’s character, not theirs, and not originally designed for star fox. It was really a shame Rare left nintendo and thus had no further agency on the star fox series nor were they able to finish adapting Dinosaur Planet into a star fox title. I think SFAd was my favorite in the series alongside SF64 even though it didn’t feel like a star fox game. It was just fun to actually do some world building and character work. I wish the dev team had another few years to really get the best out of that game because even as unfinished as it was it was very enjoyable to play with. Some people think Krystal “ruined” the star fox series but legitimately the star fox formula peaked at 64 and every game after felt like them taking a completely random wide swing to attempt to find a way to avoid remaking the same game over and over. I think they may have honestly benefitted from allowing a branching pathway with Fox missions being traditional space shooters while Krystal’s would be more of an on-foot mission that’s more fantasy than traditional sci-fi. If they let both characters have their own games while still linked in the overarching plotline that would be incredibly interesting to me, but unfortunately it became very clear early on that the star fox team couldn’t think of any role for Krystal beyond being Fox’s love interest which is too bad. The series became a bit of a mess but I do love a lot of concepts surrounding the characters and lore.
