The Traladaran hero Halav, his magical bronze armor glowing, engages in a final battle with the leader of the Beast-Men (Walter Velez, AD&D 2e Mystara Campaign boxed set Karameikos, Kingdom of Adventure, TSR, 1994) Same scene, different style as Eric Hotz’s version a few pages earlier in the same book

I love Hollow World. Deep irony here, because I kind of hate how versions of real world cultures crept into Forgotten Realms, and here I am being all “The Known World, which is a collection of fantasified real world cultures is the best” but taste is weird like that.
Hollow World spins out of the Gazetteers, a popular series of sourcebooks that, practically country by country, detailed pretty much the known entirety of the Known World. Having run out of stuff to cover on the outside, Bruce Heard and Aaron Allston decided that the Known World was hollow and started in on the inside. To my knowledge, this is the first time in RPGs that a hollow planet is investigated, which seems strange considering how large the concept looms in 19th and early 20th century fantasy and science fiction.
There’s all sorts of awesome, pulpy stuff down there (including an interior sun — this ain’t no Underdark). The inside is populated by surface cultures that were on the verge of extinction. Rather than let that happen, the Immortals brought them inside, so you you have fantasy Aztecs and fantasy Egyptians and fantasy Greeks alongside stuff like talking dinosaur gods and pirates and more (and, in a couple years, Alphatians too, after the events of the Wrath of Immortals box, which I covered back in January).
The thing is jam packed, too. Maps of course, a 128-page book for the DM, 64-page book for the players and a 32-pager of adventures. The packaging is half the fun, I love how the covers of all the Hollow World books have the big hollow globe. Something about the lady evokes the idea of Vril energy and all that nonsense. Baxa does a lot of the interior art.
Also, did I mention: TALKING T-REX GOD?

Our lips speak a lot yet something's remain unspoken... While sketching these, this was my thought throughout and the few different shapes and angles of lips exist. I understood the different techniques in sketching these and learnt about pencil shading. Through these sketches, I was able to convey my view on lips as it is the most appealing part on our faces.

Depression is such an effective tranquilizer that it creates a great opportunity for plot twists in your real life. I have a pretty consistent opinion of myself which is "low" and "never ending guilt and shame for reasons I don't understand."
Recently received feedback from two different editing clients that started with "Please pass along to your editor that she is phenomenal at her job" and "I was blown away by the evaluation I received."
You always hear about how depression (and anxiety) lies to you and distorts reality, but there is logically knowing that and then there is like, physical proof of it and you are suddenly Neo in the Matrix jumping out of the fucked up little tube machine.

Karameikos, a major power in the Known World (Clyde Caldwell art for The Grand Duchy of Karameikos by Aaron Allston, TSR, 1987, first of the Gazetteers for BECMI D&D). The top figure most resembles the description of Aleena Halaran, a 12th level cleric of the Order of the Griffon in the Church of Karameikos. She usually is seen in brightly decorated armor, but wears Thyatian gowns to society events she attends as the niece of the Baron of Threshold.
Aleena Halaran is based on the cleric Aleena that Frank Mentzer fridged in the opening pages of his version of the Basic D&D rules (1983). Allston's Gazetteer suggests changing her name to Anielle if you consider her death in the rulebook to be canonical.

I haven’t done any of the Known World Gazeteers yet and that is such a massive oversight on my part. They’re such fantastic sourcebooks. The HWR series basically continues the Gazeteer format but for kingdoms of the Hollow World. This one is for the Milenian Empire (1992), which is sort of like Alexandrian Greece. There are some strong Clash of the Titans vibes, which is probably why I like it.
You should know that the Gazetteers are chonky products, containing two booklets in a folder (and usually a big fold-out map, too). The DM book is full of setting information, history, adventure stuff. The one for players contains new skills and character options. You can be a griffon rider, for instance. I would like to be a griffon rider, please.
This is sort of a weird book in some ways. The previous adventures didn’t visit the place, though the Milenians got some attention in the core box set. An adventure does spin out of this sourcebook, but it seems half-hearted in a way. So does this book. These are post-Wrath of the Immortals, which majorly changed the entire Known World (read: kind of screwed it up almost to the point on ruination). Whether you liked the meta event or not, the Known World was on its last legs as a Basic D&D setting. Thunder Rift was the new hotness. The Known World would soon become Mystara for AD&D. You can kind of see some set up for another big meta plot here and in the the wake of Wrath, but it never manifested. Its a bit sad.
Sweet Robh Ruppel cover painting. Bob Klasnich is on the interiors. I don’t really know his work but I like it fine here.

A new transliteration of the Rain World scripts

An update to this. I am the original creator of that interpretation, and to be fair I'm a little tired of not getting proper credit for it.
The entirety of this was done by comparing the 'alphabets' to our own, and assigning phonetic values from there. The logographs were interpreted similarly, but with Mandarin 'etymology' instead. I wrote...quite a bit! About it! You can read the individual interpretations for each symbol in the doc below:

Protect Mom looks funny when you are barely going to her knee.
It was a known fact that Phantom fought Plasmius in a way to make him leave his mom alone. It was known to the other Heroes, the Villains and even the Civillians. (DC or Marvel or other Cartoon) Don't ask why?
They are themselves unsure how that works, but it was cute how the tiny hero wanted to defend his mom from the villain. So imagine their surprise as they saw his mom! - A massive woman with blue skin, red eyes, and pinkish purple hair that seemed to resemble fire. With four arms with a long spear which was held in both of her right arms. She wore a Amazoness Armor. And as they saw Pandora, all bets were gone. Who is Phantom trying to protect!? It looked like a tiny Chihuahua was trying to protect a Mastiff against a Shepherd Dog. Phantom you barely got to her knees!!! + And yes Vlad is trying to date Pandora and Maddie! At least Maddie not that much anymore. Now much more it's Pandora, and danny won't let him do it! You won't date my Ghost adopted Mom!!
+ Flash:" To think he is trying to protect that Amazon from the Vampire." Diana:" So what? My Amazon sister raised my Nephew very well." Diana saw she was a amazon = Phantom is a nephew of her.
++ Tony:" I don't think she needs protection." Peter:" I would have done the same..." Thor nodded his head he gave the young Einherjar Mjolnir to defend his mother.

BLEAK HOLLOW
Bleak Hollow Pass I talked with my D&D group about creating a homemade town for a future campaign. The town ended up being named “Bleak Hollow” and it is a old gold mine town that has seen better days. The following information was brainstormed: – City is about 100 miles away from the most prominent city that houses the king and his military. It is a little over 3.25 square miles large and now…
