Ugh there are these people I blocked MONTHS AGO who I still have these complicated feelings about, and I just want to LET IT GO- I feel guilty about blocking them, I feel utterly baffled and troubled because pretty much everyone in the fandom still interacts with them and it makes me wonder if I'm crazy for having wanted to block them or something, and also seeing them just makes me really angry cause they remind me of the reason I blocked them. it’s been a hellish last couple months dealing with being caught in the crossfire between incompetent rental car agency that is mad at me and incompetent car insurance company that didn’t tell me the person handling my claim fucking QUIT and MY CLAIM WENT FORGOTTEN FOR MONTHS and it still isn’t resolved in fact things have gotten worse and tbh, when i have major stressful setbacks in life, my body and brains’ response is to just. not. do anything. just shut down. intense fatigue, inability to focus on literally anything because the background level of stress is so high.

Do they only occur in the library, or are they found in all parts of the lower mount?

Heya Dru, sorry it took so long to get back to these. Gonna post this for WBW this week because I have now come up with some additional lore for the little critters that I'm gonna call Glowwyrms.

Do they only occur in the library, or are they found in all parts of the lower mount?

They're found in all parts of the lower mount, but are most commonly found in the library simply due to the lack of natural predators down there.

Are they edible?

They are not edible because they secrete a poisonous 'sweat' from their skin when they feel threatened, which helps to deter most predators, but there are creatures that can eat them. They don't generally feel the need to secret it when being handled by dwarves because they've figured out the great, hulking, hairy things don't want to harm them. It is advised to use gloves or an object to move glowwyrms that are threat displaying though, just to be safe; mostly because the poison is a skin irritant that can cause allergic reactions.

They don't get very big at all. The average adult measures about 4 inches long (10.16 cm) but they can get up to 6 inches in length (15.24 cm). The one Hilde finds initially is just a baby though since it was only about 2 inches long (5.08 cm). They're quite thin as well, which makes it easier to burrow in between the hairs of dwarven beards.

Do these critters have a name yet?

Answered above, but I'll reiterate it here. I decided on the name Glowwyrms for them, their 'scientific name' is Lacerta Candenti (literally 'glowing lizard').

Yeah, pretty much. The phosphenes render the mushrooms poisonous to most other species, but the glowwyrms' metabolism redirects them to the lower layers in the skin, which is why the little fellas are poisonous themselves.

How do they stay warm?

Because the climate within the depths of Fangthane is generally fairly constant, the glowwyrms have adapted to not need a great deal of heat to function. If they do require heat, in the wild they will find an area near a thermal vent in the deepest parts of the mountain, but those living around the city just find a convenient glowstone or fireplace to huddle near. Domesticated glowwyrms will curl up near the nape of the neck of their owner(s).

Do they have an IRL equivalent in look? ie are they kind of gecko-ish, or more frilled-dragon-ish.

They're basically mostly gecko-like in appearance, but they do have a short frill around their necks that is used for threat displays and for attracting mates. Their colouration is more akin to that of a salamander with the more brightly coloured portions being the bits that glow. This makes identifying individuals relatively easy and the dwarves that frequent the main library have names for the glowwyrms they come across.

As a little bit of extra information, the one that hangs around with Hilde is called Fuachd.

Damien, Dru, Lemora, and Armand are not their real names. they stole them from watching vampire shit. generally psychic vampires aren’t taken seriously by other monsters (they’re closer to lower level witches than vampires, but drain humans’ lifeforce and transfigure into false vampire bats. yet both witches and vampires think they’re a joke). so to compensate they lean really heavily into vampiric stereotypes and the cult is no exception

i think all of them are obsessed with interior decorating and shopping to some degree. Damien the most so but Armand is a close second. there’s a reason why they want world domination and it’s because of that shopping bill they keep racking up and if you rule the world or at least a city or two you probably don’t have to keep paying taxes or something (their line of logic)

Dru keeps small animals like mice and rats and stuff. Lemora’s hobbies change because she gets pissed if she isn’t good at it immediately. she’s knitted and baked and once tried modeling but the agent got back too late and she called it quits. the only thing she consistently does is gossip and bitch with Armand (who supports their partner venting as much as they love hearing the juicy deets).

Cette chronique s’intéressant depuis toujours à l’homme, à son origine, sa vie et ses œuvres, je me bornerai à donner quelques conseils utiles. Et d’abord au sujet de la conservation des fruits, qui sont tombés drus depuis septembre. Ceux qu’on a ramassés dans l’intention de se garder une poire pour la soif, il ne faut pas les laisser perdre dans les paniers. Car une seule pomme pourrie, ou même talée, risque d’abîmer toutes les autres. L’homme avisé les étalera dans un endroit sec et aéré, au grenier par exemple, de préférence sur du papier journal. Deuxièmement (je l’ai déjà dit, mais on ne le répète jamais assez !), Natalie ne prend pas de h. Ce conseil ayant porté ses fruits, penchons-nous sur décembre, qui est le dernier mois de l’année. (FYI this is me straight up having a moan. I will get over myself and back to work once I'm less pissed. Swearing ahead)

Ever since I started this new project I've had n o t h i n g but issues.

So, in attempting to corral the villagers into a space close to where I can let them into the build once it's finished, I accidentally 'stole' a few too many items. The guards tried to kill me, ended up killing Pinfriend and a bunch of villagers instead. Sad Dru Moment #1.

Yesterday, Nvidia made a change to their Ubuntu drivers - normally fine. But for some reason, the .deb didn't include a specific architecture of driver that Steam relies on (I even took backups, half expecting to have to nuke Steam and start over). So instead of playing, I spent all evening fucking around with package managers and googling my issue. Sad Dru Moment #2.

Finally, I was able to get on and build again, \0/ yay! I got a hefty amount of work done at that point. More yay! I did more today, killed the guard who was causing agro and all the other guards were nice to me again \0/

But building a gird system of rooms is repetitive and dull, and I wanted Pinfriend back. So I spawned him in... but he doesn't stay when you do that (without a capture pod ofc). Then I figured... Why not create a second Human Camp Dungeon? I get more villagers, more doggies, life is good.

So I toddle away from my precious building, what I think is far enough and do the deed. ... Wasn't fucking far enough, was it?

I nixed the bottom half of my building, villagers included. But remember that backup? 'I can fix this!' thinks I. Restored the backup. Forgot that the backup was from two days ago.

I've just lost like 4 hours worth of work. Sad Dru Moment #3

I'm so monumentally pissed off with myself right now. I should have known better to dick around with admin commands that close to my baby; shoulda took a fresh back up. Shoulda, woulda, fucking coulda. Well, it's fucking done now, but it's just... Now I have to recreate all that work again... and it's just soul-crushing and I don't wanna do it (although ironically, trying this out has improved my mood somewhat).

It's late now where I am now, so I'm gonna leave it tonight, have a cuppa, look at kitten pics, and get over myself.

I know it's never going to happen in canon, but... maybe if Dabi, or the version of him from your Vigilante au, or just not canon, but I would love something with him trying (and failing, but nicely), to bond with his siblings again, maybe with some Dabihawks and/or tododeku? I understand if this is too much, so don't worry if you don't make it!

note: no because you're so right, this is so important and needs to be talked about, so let's just say this goes with the League as Vigilantes au, right? so yeah, this isn't canon Dabi, and Shoto is like, in the summer before year 3 I guess!

okay so in this au the Todoroki family suspected that Touya (or Dabi as he will be called from here) had survived and ran away

but they weren't sure, sure yanno?

so when the truth comes out they're both insanely happy and very hurt, esp Fuyumi and Natsuo, who knew him the best

but the relief wins, and when they finally meet again it's... a lot

Fuyumi is honestly just happy, she wants to hug and cry and is just so grateful yanno?

Natsuo would probably need more time, I can see him being more reserved and unsure

not so much about the whole "what side of the law are you on" part, he gets that, kinda

it's more about the "you left me and Fuyumi and Shoto with dad and you never told me you were okay that kinda sucks" part

and Dabi gets it, but also, it was hella complicated and he genuinely didn't know if he'd survive or if knowing would put Natsuo and Fuyumi in danger

and they kinda awkwardly comes to a neutral/glad ur alive place

and then Shoto is just like... "hello brother, yes I think I remember you existing maybe, I am pleased you are alive"

and then he fucking shakes his hand or something lmao
