there’s such a difference in how i feel about the stranger things characters this season. like, on one had i’m absolutely thrilled about the prospect of will getting cursed by vecna. of course i’d worried, but noah schnapp would deliver the best performance alongside sadie, and the duffers would be missing out on a great opportunity for some character growth and explanation for will. but on the other hand, if vecna even goes near steve harrington, there is no doubt about it, i will be losing my shit. because i feel like the majority of the kids will be safe but we all know whose death would hit the general audience the hardest.

I’m praying that the Eddie prequel book will share his thoughts and his opinions on Steve but it’s not what people think it would be. Like instead of Eddie being dismissive of Steve in his king Steve era, he talks about how he truly believes there’s some good in him or maybe we’ll get his take on seeing Steve cleaning up the graffiti on the front of the theater? Imagine a scene where Eddie was out with Wayne one day and he sees Steve doing a good deed then that opened the door for him to start having feelings towards him even though he feels like he shouldn’t feel this way. We get a deeper insight from Eddie’s perspective of how others see Steve maybe people who were romantically interested in or just wanted to be friends with him? This could either confirm or deny so many headcanons that I have for them and I’m so scared.
(And they can write “Eddie hated his guts” all they want to but I’ll see that as “Eddie didn’t like him but he still had a big fat crush on him”)

Everyday I thank the Duffers for making this man a little perv
Your hair blew around your face as the cold wind beat in the open window of Jonathan’s car. It was the middle of a heatwave in Hawkins and you were feeling its effects. So much so that you had decided to wear a skirt to school that day. Your outfits were usually low effort and extremely casual, but that day you couldn’t bear to wear pants.
So, you decided, since you were wearing a skirt, that you’d make the effort to wear something nicer to school. After throwing clothes all over your room and trying on countless different tops, you’d finally gone with a red and black tennis skirt with fishnets, a black vest top, and a studded belt. Not exactly appropriate for school but you thought you’d get away with it since no one ever noticed you anyway.
But Jonathan noticed. He’d noticed the minute you came out of your house that morning and got into his car. He’d noticed the way the skirt rode up when you sat down. He’d noticed the fishnets clinging to your thighs and how your skin bulged out between each string. He’d noticed…
“Jonathan!” you shouted, practically punching him on the shoulder.
“What?” he said, snapping out of his daze.
“Are you kidding me? You just ran a red light,” you accused him.
“Oh shit, really?” He suddenly realised he’d been thinking about your thighs rather than looking at the road. “Sorry, I was just distracted.”
“Well, focus,” you said, your heart still pounding from Jonathan’s illegal driving. “I’d rather not die today.”
You eventually made it to school with no more near death experiences.
First period math in a boiling hot classroom was not an enjoyable start to your day. Even your teacher was struggling and had resorted to telling you all to do some equations while she fanned herself with a textbook.
“Miss Y/L/N, could you please open that window back there,” the teacher said before you began writing.
You nodded, glad of the suggestion and reached for the window latch. But, of course, it was one of those windows that is literally right at the top of the wall and almost impossible for any average human to reach. You stood on your tip-toes and somehow managed to grab onto the latch and pull it open.
Little did you know that, while you were reaching, your skirt had slid up the back of your leg, revealing most of your thighs. While, the rest of the class had their heads in their books, Jonathan’s eyes were fixed on you. His leg began to bounce rapidly as he started to feel the blood rush to his crotch.
He stared shamefully at your ass, imagining what your thighs would look like perched on top of him with his fingers digging into your skin and your hand around his…
He quickly buried his head in his book when he saw you turn around. He glanced up again, just for a second to find you looking back at him. You smiled at him but you were worried. There was something off about him that day. You couldn’t quite put your finger on it, but something was definitely bothering him.
“Are you ok?” you were finally able to ask Jonathan at lunch. You were sitting alone on a wall outside the school building. It was more peaceful than the bustling cafeteria. And there was less chance of getting picked on by the jocks.
“What do you mean?” Jonathan said, looking up from his sandwich. He had his schoolbag on his lap for some reason. You were confused as to why but didn’t question it.
“I mean, you’ve been acting really weird today,” you explained.
“I always act weird,” Jonathan mumbled.
“Ok then, weirder than normal,” you sighed exhaustedly. “J, I’m your best friend. Please tell me.”
You innocently placed your hand on Jonathan’s arm and noticed him grip the bag closer to his body. That made you a little suspicious.
“It’s nothing,” he said defensively.
You were about to question him further when the bell rang. Jonathan practically leapt up and said, “Sorry, I’ll talk to you later,” before speeding off.
You were itching to know what the hell was going on with Jonathan and last period couldn’t come fast enough. He was already sitting at his desk when you walked in. When he saw you enter his eyes immediately averted to look out the window. You sat at the desk in front of him and tried your best not to think about him. You’d give him a proper interrogation in the car.
Your last class was English and, unfortunately, the teacher wanted all the students to read out part of the homework you’d been working on. After hearing countless dull essays from tired students, the teacher finally said, “Y/N, please stand and read the first page of your assignment.”
You did as she commanded and began to recite the start of your essay. If you’d asked Jonathan what it was about, he would’ve been stumped. Because here he was, once again, stuck in class, staring at your ass. And this time, there was no way to hide it.
He cursed you for choosing to sit right in front of him. And he cursed the teacher for making you stand up. He tried to listen to your essay but the words blurred into one as an image formed in his mind. If he wasn’t resting his chin on his hand his mouth would’ve been agape as he pictured himself running his hands up and down the soft skin of your thighs as you rode him, softly mumbling his name.
But your weren’t mumbling anymore. You were shouting. “Jonathan!” And you didn’t sound like you. You sounded like an old woman.
“Mr Byers! Pay attention and stand up this instant!” the teacher demanded.
This time his jaw did drop as he realised it was now his turn to read his essay and he’d been zoned out for the past five minutes thinking of you.
You turned around to face him as he got up to speak. His face was bright red. He cleared his throat before beginning to read his essay. You looked up at him from your seat in an attempt to reassure him. While listening to his surprisingly well written essay your eyes dropped for a second. Just a second. But it was long enough to confirm your suspicions.
You lifted your eyes back up to Jonathan’s face, trying to ignore the bulge in his black pants. Thank God he was at the back of the class in a dark corner where hopefully no one else would see. When he sat back down you turned around in your seat again, suddenly unable to look him in the eye.
The class sprang out of their seats when, at last, the final bell rang. You and Jonathan left the classroom in silence. As you walked down the busy corridor your mind was racing. You had to address the situation, right? But how? By the time you reached Jonathan’s car you had a plan.
“Give me the keys,” you ordered him, standing in front of the driver side door.
“What? Why?” Jonathan replied, confused.
“We’re going somewhere,” you answered vaguely.
Jonathan gave you a sceptical look but slowly handed over the keys.
There was little conversation as you drove Jonathan where you wanted to go. The closer you got to your destination, the more confused he got.
“Are we going to my house?” he asked.
“Not quite,” you responded.
You parked the car at the edge of the forest that surrounded the Byers’ house and gave Jonathan the nod to get out of the car.
“Oh,” Jonathan sighed in relief when he realised where you were taking him. It was a place you’d discovered a long time ago and now used as a place to hang out. A misshapen tree that bent over to form a perfect little bench. The leaf covered branches of the tree hung down, creating a dome over the bench. It was like your own personal little haven where you and Jonathan would come when you wanted to get away from the bullies of Hawkins.
“Why are we here?” Jonathan questioned you when you reached the tree.
You didn’t say anything until you were both sat on its crusting bark.
“Because we need to talk,” you replied, your expression turning serious as you stared deep into Jonathan’s eyes. He shifted his legs nervously, the close proximity between your face and his causing his pants to swell for the fourth time that day.
“Don’t try to hide it,” you said.
“Hide what?”
“You know what,” you whispered, raising your eyebrow.
Jonathan swallowed hard. He didn’t know what to say.
“I assume this is why you’ve been acting weird all day,” you said.
He nodded. “I’m sorry. I can’t help it,” he said shakily. “I don’t know why this is happening.”
“I do.” You grabbed Jonathan’s hand and placed it on your thigh. “It’s because of this. It’s because you’ve never seen me wear anything other than jeans. It’s because you haven’t been able to stop staring at my ass all day.”
Jonathan let out a quivering breath.
“I didn’t know my best friend was a little pervert,” you smirked.
“I’m sorry,” Jonathan repeated.
“No, J, it’s ok,” you assured him. “I’m trying to tell you that I don’t mind. You’re a guy. These things happen.”
“It’s just, you’ve never worn something like that before. I’m s-,”
“If you apologise one more time I’m leaving,” you said, covering Jonathan’s mouth with your hand.
You were silent for a few seconds, staring into each other’s eyes. Then, you moved your hand down from Jonathan’s lips so you were holding his chin between your finger and thumb. You pulled his face forward, forcing your lips to connect. Jonathan didn’t even flinch when you kissed him. Immediately he melted into your body and begged your mouth to open with his tongue.
But you didn’t grant him access just yet. You pulled your lips away and rested your forehead on his.
“You want some help with this?” you mumbled, placing your hand on his inner thigh.
Jonathan nodded eagerly and started to pull you on top of him.
“Ok, slow down,” you chuckled. You got up from the tree branch and were about to pull off your fishnets when Jonathan stopped you.
“No,” he said quietly, grabbing your hand. “Can you keep them on please?”
“Shit, you really are a little creep, aren’t you?” you smirked.
Jonathan’s face flushed as he fumbled with his belt. He almost sobbed when his dick was finally released from his tight pants.
You got on his lap, knees on either side of his thighs, and hovered above his dick.
“You must be so desperate if you’ve been like this all day,” you said, running you hand through his hair. He let out a quiet whimper in response.
“You sure you want me to help you with this?”
“Yes, yes please,” Jonathan whispered, wrapping his hands around your waist.
You pulled your fishnets and underwear to the side. Jonathan let out a loud moan as you guided him inside you.
“Shh, J,” you hushed him. “We may be in the middle of nowhere but sound travels.”
“Sorry,” Jonathan mumbled.
“And what did I say about apologising?”
This time he stayed quiet.
Your thrusts were slow and deep. Jonathan’s fingers dug into your sides as he willed you to pick up your pace.
“Faster, please,” he begged.
So, instead, you stopped. You sat on his dick, taking all of it inside you. Jonathan whined at the lack of movement. You ignored him.
“You know, it’s really misogynistic of you to only find me attractive when you can look up my skirt,” you said, wanting to watch him squirm for just a bit longer.
“I find you attractive all the time,” Jonathan replied, his eyes shut in concentration.
“Well, you’re not getting a boner every day, so obviously you don’t.”
“Do you have any idea how difficult it is to look at you every fucking day and not get hard,” Jonathan explained. “The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that when I go home I can…”
Jonathan stopped, realising he had revealed too much.
“You can what?” you asked.
“Nothing,” he said quietly.
“Jonathan,” you said more sternly, staring daggers into his eyes. “You can what?”
Jonathan started to speak but he was too quiet.
“Speak up or I’m leaving you out here and you can sort out your little situation by yourself.”
That was one thing Jonathan didn’t want, so he raised his voice.
“I have photos of you,” he began. “And I, uh-,”
“Wait, photos? What photos?” you demanded.
“Nothing creepy, I swear.” You couldn’t tell if Jonathan’s face was red with embarrassment or the heat. “It’s photos that you let me take of you for art class last year.”
“Ok,” you said. You could feel him twitching. “And what do you do with these photos?” you asked, already knowing the answer.
He looked up at you with pleading eyes. You felt his breathing get faster.
“You don’t wanna know,” he finally said.
“Oh, I think I do,” you smiled, beginning to roll your hips back and forth again just thinking about it.
Just that slight movement set Jonathan off again. He couldn’t stop the grunts and whimpers escaping his lips. You thought if you couldn’t stop him from making noise, you could at least muffle it.
You pressed your lips against his again, this time allowing your tongues to intertwine.
“Y/N,” Jonathan groaned desperately into your open mouth.
He was practically ripping your shirt with his hands so you started to increase your speed. Now you were kissing him to hold back your own moans, as well as his.
You reached up to grab one of the tree branches behind Jonathan’s head as you started to feel your stomach tighten.
“Do you want to cum, J?” you asked, pulling away from his lips.
“Yes, so bad,” he whined. “Please, can I?”
You nodded and almost immediately you felt Jonathan spill out inside you. He threw his head back and moaned your name louder than before. But you were too tied up in your own high to tell him to be quiet.
When you eventually stopped your movements the two of you were out of breath and sweating. The sun was beating down on you through the trees, wiping any energy you had left.
You climbed off Jonathan’s lap, adjusted your underwear and sat back down on the tree branch. Jonathan’s hands shook violently as he attempted to do up his pants.
You both sat, staring up at the sky, neither one of your daring to speak. Until Jonathan broke the silence.
“Is this going to be really awkward now?” he asked timidly.
“I don’t see why it should be,” you responded, turning to face him.
A small smile spread across Jonathan’s face. “So we’re still good for movie night on Friday then,” he said.
“Uh-huh,” you replied, squeezing his leg. “I’ll even wear a skirt if you want.”

hi today we're thinking about Dustins parental (figures) trauma (because i love him)
like Dustin now has experienced 4 different instances of an older brother figure running into danger to protect him and every time said older brother figure got more and more injured
the first day Dustin meets Steve, Steve leaves the bus with the demodogs to be bait and comes back a bit shaken and with a couple scratches but basically unharmed. hes doing this to protect all the kids but at this point he's known Dustin the longest (maybe an hour or so more but still they had actual conversations in that hour)
then they're at the Byers and Steve fights B*lly for Lucas (and Max i think because he was officially there to take her home) and we hear the kids screaming at B*lly, specifically we hear Dustin scream "you're gonna kill him" and Steve very obviously has a concussion afterwards
then theres season 3. Steve and Robin hold the door while Dustin and Erica escape through vents and when they meet up again both teenagers are drugged and Steve has a black eye, bloody nose, and a split lip and is covered in blood and sweat and thats just what you can see (he mentions ears ringing, difficulty breathing and feeling like his eye is going to fall out, all of which probably comes up later off-screen because hes doing a lot of strenuous activity for someone in his condition)
and then Eddie. Eddie who was asked by Steve to look out for him and Eddie who made sure Dustin got through the portal safely before risking his own safety to help the team. Eddie who so far in canon (duffers please bring him back) died in Dustins arms and kept a smile on his face in his excruciating death to try and ease the blow it'd have on him
and even if you write aus where Eddie does live he's frequently in the hospital for several months or in a coma
now Dustins a child, he's in middle school during all of steves sacrifices and in his freshman year of highschool for Eddie's. He doesn't have a present father and while his mother is very loving she's not the most emotionally stable
and when you think about it, Dustin doesn't really have any parental figure that is 100% stable for him to rely on
His mother gets very stressed and panics a lot (which is fair because shes a presumably single working mom and joyce is in a similar situation but regardless it does put stress on their kids), and we see Dustin immediately stepping up to comfort his mom when their cat Mews is "missing" despite having to see and clean up his cats dead body alone from out of his bedroom
Steve is a relatively emotionally stable figure for him with lots of confident advice and its confirmed that Steves a very safe person for him to go to with both upside down and normal problems
but Steve has gotten hurt A Lot and often times the responsibility of taking care of him falls on Dustin (and I'd go as far as to say Dustin takes on this role himself based on how hes used to taking care of his mom). Dustins the one holding an ice pack to Steve's head when he wakes up in B*llys car and he's mostly the one looking after Steve and Robin while they're drugged. Steve is emotionally safe, but Dustin does have to worry about his safety pretty often (he so easily could've died in season 3 just from repeated head injuries alone)
Then with Eddie its clear Dustin looks up to him as a role model of this cool guy who doesn't care what others think of him, but then Eddie gets involved with the upside down. they meet in the boathouse we see Dustin immediately stepping up to calm him down and help him work through the upside down trauma (and to protect Steve who's once again in physical danger) (and then Eddie dies later so hes not really stable in either aspect rip)
So aside from the upside down trauma having the kids have to grow up too fast and having their childhoods taken away (and this definitely applies to all the kids and teens but we're talking about dusty today), Dustins a character that is consistently looking for a stable parental figure and consistently loosing the stability he finds in them. Which leads him to have to step up, shelf his own emotions, and be a source of stability for his parental figures instead.
i know its wishful thinking at best to hope for a comedic character to have their trauma properly addressed in this show, but id really like to see Dustin struggling with some of this
he probably feels responsible for a lot of shit that happened especially to Steve and Eddie because he was there to witness their injuries and they both got injured to protect him
maybe he struggles talking about certain things with steve despite him remaining emotionally safe because his experiences with comforting his mom and Eddie makes him assume thats normal. maybe hes afraid hes going to wake up one day and Steve will be dead.
maybe he puts himself down the same path steves on now, not his highschool jock path but the self-sacrificing hero path. maybe the party will be in some sort of trouble with no adults around and he'll put himself between the party and the danger because he feels responsible for making sure they're ok.
we've already seen he feels the need to mediate conflict with his friends (mike and lucas's fight in season 1 and asking eddie to postpone hellfire on lucas's behalf) and that he admires Steve's hero stunts (fighting the demodogs in season 2 Dustin says hes awesome when max comments hes insane)
i just want to see people talk about Dustins relationship with responsibility and the lack of stability in his life. i also grew up being The Responsible Friend in my friend group and its fucking exhausting. I just want my guy to get a break, maybe some assurance that Steves not going to fucking die and maybe a moment where he can just let go of tge stress hes holding onto (i don't know tbh if i knew how to fix this feeling i wouldn't need therapy lol)

now that i am done torturing myself and finished season 4, i’m not going to explain why the last episode made me pause multiple times to pace in my room because i was so angry lmao because i reblogged plenty of well explained posts already.
but i’ll talk about other stuff that stuck with me, and people might hate me for it but…yeah, ain’t that the life of anyone that doesn’t enjoy popular characters.
grammar might be shit because english is not my first language. fyi, this is fairly big and it’s very negative, so if you want to skip, feel free.
[i mean it, if you read something you don’t like to the point you want to send me threatening messages or cyberbully me, keep scrolling and leave me tf alone. thanks.]
1. dustin had waaaay too much screen time. why are we supposed to accept him as the certified genius of the group when all of members of The Party are “nerds.” all i’m asking is maybe instead of dustin always being the one figuring the upside down out, give some of those ground breaking discoveries to lucas. but also, it got to the point of being so annoying. i know it’s supposed to be a running gag of “maybe some humility will do you well,” but all the time? shut up.
2. everything and everyone revolving around nancy. i’m not joking. robin is scrambling to get on her good side and make nancy like her, which season 3 robin would’ve cared less. the whole stäncy thing, i just…please move on. the fact that she expects jonathan to be the one to drop everything to be with her, when he’s been doing that for every season, like maybe nancy can make some effort too? idk. the expectation that jonathan has to be the one to absolutely change the trajectory of his life because of what she wants (point is, he shouldn’t be afraid to decide the trajectory of his life, this is a relationship which entails two people, not one). the portrayal of every character being annoying, stupid, and incompetent sometimes, while she is always portrayed as someone incapable of mistakes. the same old self righteous and superiority crap that i don’t like. (but that’s on me because i never liked the wheelers since season 1, so i admit i’m biased).
3. going from stäncy fiasco, it still is technically tied to the overt attention to nancy, but steve was supposed to grow up. when she says he’s grown, i could only laugh at that point. part of growing up is realizing that maybe, just maybe, you have to learn to live with yourself instead of desperately seeking for a lover, which is what steve had been doing. being in a relationship isn’t going to fix all of your problems (this applies to mïleven but i’m not even going there). we had moved on from steve being in love with nancy, but the duffers act like that’s all there is to his personality, and let’s be honest, they were obviously out of ideas for steve’s character because they don’t know how to write characters other than relying on their superficial and stereotypical lenses. it would have been interesting to maybe see steve realizing that he is convinced he needs nancy in his life because he is lonely as fuck—so it’s not about “being in a relationship with nancy would change your life for the better,” there’s no such thing, it’s about “you’re seeking what is convenient and familiar because you are terrified of ending up alone.” but whatever, steve will always love nancy because that’s all he is there for.
4. the overt attention to karen wheeler. why am i supposed to care about this woman? why are we getting karen and ted’s reactions so much, and not the sinclairs or mrs. henderson? they are the ones watching their kids run towards danger right in front of them, why are they panning to karen constantly? “she’s worried about nancy,” yeah it’s been established again and again, but i am interested about the parents who are at that moment watching their kids turn their backs to them instead of asking for help. but then again, why should i care about her? to me she’s nothing but a woman who was flirting and willing to have sex with a 17-year-old in seasons 2-3, so, y’know, i’d much appreciate the sinclairs’ outburst about trust given they seem to be the most stable family in this show.
5. max’s “he made my life a living hell” after episode 4, but also after season 3 when it portrayed both of them as not super close but on the way to a better relationship. (i could go on about this but as i said, plenty of people did already). + the scene of billy breaking the sauna door portrayed as though that was all him and not him possessed by the mind flayer, me poupe. + “you’re much braver than your brother,” and the scene didn’t cut to said brother standing up to the mind flayer? ME POUPE.
6. the whole papa redemption arc. just get the fuck out of here. yeah, eleven didn’t forgive him, but the whole “i love you, you’re my family.” are you kidding me? the man ripped kids from their families, experimented on them, without a doubt killed and got them killed, all for the sake of winning an ideological war. ME POUPE.

the duffers wanna just jump a few days forward and ignore all that wonderful angst potential? weak. anyways if they won't deal w it I will <3
requested by anonymous
pairing: Steve Harrington x reader
summary: au based on ghosts that we knew by Mumford and sons (aka some angst and fluff after the vecna mess)
word count: 1.5k
-
Steve hasn’t stopped moving in hours. Days, maybe. Even during that slim, dread-filled time between leaving the Upside Down and returning with an arsenal, he fluttered about like a mother-hen, slapping together peanut butter and banana sandwiches or triple-checking ammo or trying to scrub the bloodstains out of everyone’s clothing.
The fight ends the way it always does—with more loss than anyone knows what to do with.
Steve fidgets the entire drive home, still running on enough adrenaline that it makes you doubt whether he should be driving at all. But you’re too tired to speak, and you think if you open your mouth, it’ll release all the tears you’ve been holding back for hours.
The sirens ring in a constant loop through your head, though the ambulances went in the opposite direction, to the hospital. Not just the hospital. The morgue, too.
Bile claws up your throat, only stopped by the quick silencing of the car’s engine as Steve kills it in the Harrington driveway. His is the only car, as expected. His house is always empty. And it’s always both a relief and a little sad.
He doesn’t ask whether you’re staying the night. It’s a given after the last few days.
When you reach his bedroom, Steve peels off his soiled clothing without a word. He favors his right side more than he did this morning, and he twists your way enough to see the dark red seeping through his shirt.
“You’re bleeding,” you say.
“I’m fine.” Steve has always been a shitty liar.
“No, you’re not.”
“It doesn’t matter,” he snaps, kicking his stained clothes into a pile in one corner of his room. “None of it matters.”
“Steve.”
“Just leave it.” He catches your gaze for a fleeting moment, and it’s hard and cruel.
“Yeah, like that’s happening,” you say sarcastically. You unzip your heavy overcoat and toss it to the corner with Steve’s. “The vines must have reopened the bites. Let me see.” You duck to pull the first aid kit from beneath Steve’s desk. It lives there these days, and he’s had to restock it more times than anyone should.
When you turn back, Steve is staring out the window, unmoving. The dark forest beyond his house disappears into blackness, but he looks into it like it has something to tell him.
“Steve.” You deposit the first aid kit on his bed and approach him from behind, touching his arm. He doesn’t react.
“Look, you’re the one who refused to go get checked out at the hospital. Unless you want to be dragged there, you’ll let me clean you up. God knows what kind of bacteria…” You trail off, taking a deep breath. “Talk to me. Please.”
His shoulders sink. After a long second, he turns, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallows. His face is still crusted with dirt and blood. It makes his bloodshot eyes shine brighter in the lamplit bedroom.
“I was supposed to keep everyone safe,” he says. His voice cracks on the last word, and an image of Dustin, limping and crying and above all, alone, flickers in your head. And those sirens, the ones in the ambulance carrying Max—
“Sometimes, those kids look at me like I’m this damn hero, and sometimes—” He sucks in his teeth and makes a disgusted noise. “—I believe it.” He throws up his hands. “I told Max I’d protect her, and look at her now. And Eddie—he shouldn’t have gone out like that. Dustin shouldn’t have had to see it. I couldn’t stop any of it—” Steve stops. “I’m not a hero.  I’m just some guy. And it wasn’t enough.”
“Steve.” You reach up to cup one of his cheeks. He leans into the touch, eyes fluttering. “Eddie was not your fault. Neither is what happened to Max.”
“I should have been there. I should have—”
“What, self-multiplied? Been in three places at once?” you ask. “If you recall, Steve, we were a little busy being strangled by sentient vines.”
He shakes his head. It doesn’t matter if there’s logic in your words. Logic doesn’t matter when the world is falling apart around you. Loss is a cavern, and it’s swallowing Steve whole.
“I could have stopped it. Instead, I just let them—” He pulls back, and shakes his head again.
“No. That’s a load of crap, and you know it,” you say, grabbing the sleeve of his shirt to hold him in place. The oversized sweatshirt he pulled from his trunk dwarfs him, and he looks more like a kid than the soldier he was a few hours ago.
“Is it?” he asks. His voice is small.
“Not being able to save someone is not the same thing as letting them die.” You press your lips together and shove back the tears stinging the backs of your eyes. “And Max is going to be okay. We have to believe she’s going to be okay.”
“And Henderson?” Steve cocks a brow. The bravado returns momentarily, and you’re relieved to see it’s survived again. You’re afraid one of these times, the Steve that walks away from the fight won’t be the one that walked into it.
“Dustin is strong. He’ll get past this. He has you,” you say. “He has the others.”
Steve’s lips part and abruptly shut again. He shifts back—if he moves again, you think you might lose your grip on him altogether. And you’ve lost enough.
“Dustin and the others don’t look at you like they do because they think you have all the answers. They know you don't,” you say, giving him a tiny smile. And to your relief, a smile ghosts his own lips. “Do you even know why everyone looks to you for help?”
Steve takes a breath. He back up and drops onto the thin pad on the windowsill, looking up at you. “I have no goddamn idea.”
“Because you’re brave. Because no matter how bad things get, and they’ve gotten pretty damn bad—” You take a step, and another, until your knees bump his. With the windowsill’s height, you’re at eye level. “—you don’t get scared, or run. You don’t start fights, but you always finish them. You’ll go to bat, literally, for the people you care about, and we all know it.”
Steve closes his eyes for a long moment. Opens them.
“I don’t feel brave,” he says.
“Well, it’s nice to know your ego isn’t entirely invulnerable,” you say, and Steve smiles, just a bit, like you hoped he would.
“Just because someone died doesn’t mean we don’t deserve to live,” you say.
Steve’s chin starts to dip, but you catch it with a hand, nudging it back up.
“Okay?” you ask.
Steve takes a long breath. He takes your hands in his and stares at them, two sets of blood and dirt-crusted fingers and knuckles.
“You remember that dream I told you about? A shitty RV, a few national parks.”
“And an obscene amount of children,” you say. One side of his mouth quirks up. “I remember.”
His smile fades. “Every second that passes, it’s like… I don’t know, like it’s less of a dream and more of a fantasy. An impossible one. I mean, who the hell are we to think everything’s going to work out?”
“Hey,” you say, curling your fingers around his and squeezing. “Don’t you dare count out our happy endings. I’m offended on our future children’s behalf.”
Steve closes his eyes again and leans forward, burying his face in your chest. When he exhales, his warm breath tickles through your shirt.
“Tell me everything is going to be okay,” he mumbles, his voice muffled by fabric.
It’s a game you play—making wishes and convincing yourselves they’ll come true. Maybe one day it won’t be a game at all. The monsters will stay under the bed where they belong.
“Everything is going to be okay,” you say, guiding him back and taking his face in your hands. “We are going to be okay. You and me and Dustin and Max and every single one of us is going to grow old and wrinkly and irritate each other until time kills us.”
Steve cocks a brow. “Morbid,” he says.
“I think a natural death is the least morbid thing we’ll ever see.”
“A guy can dream,” he says. He smiles, and this time, it reaches his eyes. It’s brief, a moment before the grief slides back in, but it’s something.
“But first, we’re both going to take a shower, because there’s no way I’m getting into bed with you when you smell like a sewer gave birth to a landfill,” you say.
Steve inhales to speak, but you cut him off before you can.
“And if you tell me I smell, you’re sleeping on the floor,” you say.
“I’m calling that bluff,” Steve says.
You snort, leaning forward to press a kiss to his forehead. You nudge him toward his bathroom door.
“Take a shower, Harrington,” you say.
He grumbles a response too low for you to hear, and you watch him until the bathroom door shuts behind him. His shoulders are still weighed down heavy with ghosts, but one day, he’ll walk back into the room, and all the ghosts you’ve known will be long gone.
You just have to make it there.

Okay, so I've reeled over Nancy's relationship with Steve and Jonathan in my head for so long that I just want to put it out there rn.
Analysis/rant up ahead:
As mentioned before, by Murray, Steve is Nancy's safety net. Nancy fooled herself into thinking she was in love with Steve simply because of how afraid she was to be alone, especially after Barb's death. With Jonathan being busy with Will at the time, Nancy couldn't go to him and lean on him. She couldn't just break it off with Steve because without Jonathan she would have no one else. Steve, to her, was better than nothing. She thought that being with Steve would be less scary than having to deal with all her thoughts (guilt, dread, nightmares, fear, etc.) alone. So she fooled herself into thinking she was in love with Steve to stay with him and so she wouldn't lose her only "boulder", simply put, without Steve, Nancy wouldn't have had anybody to fill up the hole in her heart.
I won't say that Nancy "lying" to Steve about her being in love with him was okay, because it wasn't, but I'm not gonna hold it against her. I can empathize with her. I do think that with everything that she went through, she is at least allowed sympathy. She was 16, she wanted to rebel, she wanted to break from the shackles of her upbringing.
(I won't delve into my thoughts on her being a repressed queer, but I do think she is heavily queer coded, purposely or not.)
And now onto why I think Steve and Nancy getting back together this season seems completely and totally off. It has been clear from the beginning that the Duffers were going for Nancy and Jonathan to be a thing, and they wouldn't just build those two up just to have a Nancy fall back into Steve just because (especially after the jancy s3 scene at the end. Why have them all mushy and sweet together just to pull this crap in s4). I do think that because Nancy can tell that Jonathan breaking up with her is imminent, she is starting to feel that fear and dread being riled up inside her again, just like in season two where she convinced herself that she was in love with Steve etc. She can feel that she is going to be alone again so she is searching for the next best person, which, to her, is Steve.
Now with her being Vecna'd, him showing her the guilt she's endured these past years of her life, she's going to have a "wake up call" and realize that she is retrogressing (i.e. going back to her safety net [Steve] and that she is fooling herself into loving him/liking him again.)
Although I don't want Nancy's Vena scene to revolve around her love triangle with Steve and Jonathan (I want it to revolve around her character and her internal struggles alone, please), I do want there to be a moment where Nancy realizes that she doesn't need to be in a romantic relationship with either Steve or Jonathan or anyone else to be okay. She can depend on her friends (Robin could come in at this point because yeah), and for her to know that she is not alone.
The immense amount of joy I would feel if after Vecna, Nancy felt like she was able to understand herself more, is insurmountable.
But, anyway, in short, I want Nancy freed from this prison of a love triangle the Duffers have put her in.
And has this all been talked about before? Maybe, maybe not. Idk. But these are my two cents.
And atp, the only romance I would accept for Nancy is between her and Robin. Either leave Nancy alone OR give her Robin. That's that. (Have my girls hold hands and kiss, please.)

I dislike Robin on principle of her being both annoying and pushing Stancy (why?? Bitch, you don’t even know Jonathan OR Nancy what’s your agenda??) but making her gay in s3 was the worst decision. Her and Steve could be happily shacked up by now, doing their own shit and leaving Nancy the hell alone. I think s3 Robin (s4 Robin has had a personality transplant apparently) and Steve would have made a really good couple. But Maya said jump and the Duffers said how high and now she’s the annoying rambling pointless sidekick pushing her bff back towards his ex and taking up valuable screen time from OGs and I haaaate it all.
But you can’t say that making Robin a lesbian was a poor choice from a narrative pov or you’ll get ripped to shreds.
Hmm I mean, Maya's decision to make Robin gay was the only slightly interesting thing about the character I think though. Like I actually didn't see that coming in s3. She really seemed like a total Mary Sue type girlfriend for Steve (she was still a Mary Sue just not Steve's gf then). It was so boring watching the "oh smart girl who doesn't like dumbass Steve will eventually warm up to him. That's still what happened but Robin being gay and it thus only being a platonic thing was at least unexpected. But still the main purpose of her character is to prop up Steve, she's just around to remark what a swell guy Steve is and further the meme-ification of Steve. And them changing the character around completely in s4 based off of Maya is really weird.
But at the same time I thought the characterization was worse in s3 when she was a perfect Mary Sue and also made no sense. The whole Robin can translate Russian to English because she... knows French is the single most ridiculous piece of writing detail I can remember, it's just bananas how completely severed from reality that is (yes it's a show about monster but the actual based in reality part of the show needs... to be based in reality), the closeted small town lesbian feeling comfortable coming out to the alpha male dumbass cishet jock was also kinda ?? and it ofc completely glossed over that Steve in s1 was blatantly homophobic. Yes Steve's chaaanged and all now but still, it's still the 80s and that's never been adressed, just bc Steve realized he was being an asshole to Nancy and Jonathan doesn't mean he also had some epiphany about his homophobia (which I doubt he'd ever even consider really, it was just the norm for a cishet guy like him in the 80s to be like that).
It also makes no sense when they all meet up in s3 and Nancy is like "who are you?" to Robin, they're supposed to be in the same grade in the same high school in the same small ass town, they'd definitely know each other (obv this isn't against Robin, just an aside I thought of).
So yeah, I mean my real problem is with how they've completely overstuffed the show with waaaaay too many characters, shoving important OG characters into the background, and Robin is one of those new characters that is part of this problem. With her specifically I have to above mentioned problems of the writing for her making no sense, her being a Mary Sue in s3, completely different character in s4. But yeah mostly that her main purpose is to prop up Steve, to walk around and talk about how great Steve is, to push Nancy towards Steve, and Steve looking good through their friendship. So even if she didn't end up being the love interest for Steve she was slated to be she still mostly exists to prop up Steve.
Finally just want to be clear, please note that none of my issues with Robin is about her sexuality ofc, just with how the Duffers write her and her role on the show. You gotta be able criticize the writing of LGBT characters also,

at least we agree about the stancy thing lol. i really hope they don’t get together in s5. I thought the girl the was volunteering at the hs at the end of s4 could’ve been a love interest for Steve or robin but no hope 😭 and the whole Vickie/robin thing is boring. they are literally the same person. can the duffers please give us a good relationship that doesn’t end with one of them going to prison for 8 months or one of them in a coma
robin and the girl volunteering had a lot of chemistry!!! i didn’t like the whole robin x vickie thing, it came out of nowhere i’m sorry (plus they only talked 2 times). i really really really hope they don’t make stancy happen next season. i want them to leave nancy alone and have her pursue her dream but if they have to pair her w someone at least make it jonathan 🙄

pov: you’re steve harrington, shirtless and sweaty, fighting for your life in the upside down. there’s bats everywhere and you only have one weapon. off to the side is eddie munson, who, for whatever reason, is shredding the guitar on top of what looks like hopper’s trailer. things aren’t looking good for you.

Idk if anyone has asked this before but how do you think that they would fit byler into the season with everything going on? I’m really trying not to lose hope for Byler and ur page honestly gives me hope.
do not fear, hope-inducer is here!
based on the trailer alone, there is so much evil-related plot to look at and analyze. it all may seem very overwhelming to you and many others, and the minimal amount of byler we got in this trailer was, i’ll be honest, kind of a let down. but there is no need to worry! here’s why.
i’d like to start off by saying that the duffers have NEVER cut off a key part of the plot or left a story unfinished, despite whether the main audience likes it or not. every detail, no matter how big or small, is carried onto further seasons until it is resolved. most tv shows would not have continued to show characters like joyce, hopper and max grieving into further seasons, for example. of course they wouldn’t abandon this huge fight between two main characters (which was very romantic coded). they write things into the show with a purpose. why would they write all this byler in if they weren’t going to follow through with that story?
another point that some of my fellow theorists made was that there’s no way they’d spoil a giant plot twist like mike actually liking will to the audience this early. not only would that probably cause backlash from the homophobes, but it would make the slowburn and anticipation much less interesting.
keep in mind that generally, there weren’t any scenes centered on romance in particular in this trailer, when it comes to any of the ships or couples. it’s not just byler that wasn’t included— mileven hardly got any scenes, as did lumax and jancy. there is this one exception.
Tumblr media
and this is such an obvious love triangle. if they weren’t going to continue on with byler, they wouldn’t have added will in the middle here, focused on the couple in front of him and looking upset. every single glance and song and scene that’s included in this show is intentionally added. if they were going to drop byler, will would be off somewhere else in this scene, but no— he’s in the scene, and clearly bothered. with clips like these, it’s highly obvious the route they’re going to be taking when it comes to romance.
you may be thinking, “what if they just make will a third wheel, and go for the unrequited gay crush trope?” they won’t. i mean, from the looks of it season 4 will start out with will still third wheeling and being sick of it and mike having so much internalized homophobia that he’s still doing this bullshit. but then for the majority of the rest of the series, el is gone and getting her powers back, leaving mike and will alone with unresolved romantic tension (that the stranger things socials have called out! see this post.) to hash out. there is twice the regular amount of showtime to execute these scenes too, so time shouldn’t even be a concern!
as a final note, i’m going to reiterate the fact that there were not any romantic scenes in the trailer. yes, el and mike had scenes where they looked at each other, and steve and nancy had scenes where they talked, but it doesn’t mean in any way that these will be endgame couples. of course people will assume that because mike and el are holding hands that they’re going to be back and happier than ever this season. but as other theorists have pointed out, trailers are meant to mislead us! for right now they’re pleasing the main audience, but they didn’t make a point to add in a ton of romantic scenes regarding the main couples of s4— probably because they’re going to be VERY different this season.
so again, no need to worry! the duffers know exactly what they’re doing here. they always have. <3

Billy Is Going To Find The Byers
IMPORTANT: If you haven’t read my post “The Demogorgon Is Billy’s Dark Reflection,” please check it out, as it goes hand in hand with this one. Thanks :D
Tumblr media
A few months ago, we all got our first look at some of the new characters for S4. I checked them out with great interest.
“Lt. Colonel Sullivan... military dude in Hawkins... cool, makes sense. Victor Creel... ooooooh, played by Robert Englund, betcha he’s gonna be one of El’s predecessors. Eddie Munson... damn, he’s super sus. Argyle... Jonathan’s new bff, who delivers pizza for--”
I stopped.
And freaked. OUT.
Argyle delivers pizza for Surfer Boy Pizza.
Surfer Boy Pizza.
SURFER BOY PIZZA.
Tumblr media
A whole constellation of dots connected, and I knew IMMEDIATELY where this is heading. Let’s walk through it step by step... starting with the inception of Stranger Things itself.
The Duffers love the movie Jaws, to the point that they give it pride of place in their list of inspirations. Hell, Stranger Things probably wouldn’t have existed without it. Initially, as a homage to the movie, the show was set in a Long Island beach town called Montauk. The setting didn’t change until the Duffers began pre-production:
They began by scouting locations on the northern tip of Long Island, but the community - so integral to the script - didn’t look as they had imagined, and its distance from New York City made the idea of anchoring the production there unfeasible. A new approach was required. (Worlds Turned Upside Down, p 25)
After that, they rewrote the script to take place in Indiana, and “Hawkins was born.”
Still, you can tell their love for Jaws lingered. Hopper’s truck looks like Martin Brody’s:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Demogorgon was inspired by the shark, and the show isn’t shy about that fact. In S1, when Nancy explains her theory for what the Demogorgon is, she likens its bloodlust to that of a shark:
Tumblr media
In the final episode, when Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve are hiding from the Demogorgon in Will’s room, the Jaws poster hangs prominently in the left side of the frame:
Tumblr media
Furthermore, the Demogorgon’s behavior emulates that of the shark. Like Nancy points out, it hunts alone, emerging from the Upside Down (*COUGHTHEOCEANCOUGH*) to pick people off one by one. And though we don’t see its full form until the end, its presence haunts us throughout, infusing the story with dread.
Okay! So the Duffers originally set Stranger Things in a beach town, and the Demogorgon was inspired by the Jaws shark. Cool. What does this mean for us?
Everything.
Think about it. The Byers have moved to a new town. We aren’t sure where they went, but in S2 Bob suggested Maine. Maine is on the East Coast, not far from Long Island.
Tumblr media
And as you can see, it has hundreds of miles of beaches.
If the Duffers have any sense, they wouldn’t drop the Byers in another town like Hawkins. That would be redundant and hella boring. Instead, they would seize the opportunity to explore a new setting with a different feel. Not an inland town surrounded by woods and farmland, but... oh, idk... a beach town.
On top of that, the Byers’ move gives the Duffers the perfect opportunity to return to the show’s roots. Finally, they can bring Montauk to life.
If that’s what they’ve done, and the Byers have moved to a beach town, we’re headed for prime Billy territory.
Tumblr media
Billy OWNS the beach. In the context of the show, we get our first glimpse of a beach in his mind, for God’s sake. And he’s deeply connected to water as an element. He’s a surfer, lifeguard, swim instructor... need I say more?
He’s also likened to the Demogorgon - the monster inspired by the shark in Jaws.
I’ve already discussed the similarities between Billy and the Demogorgon. Those were fresh on my mind when I read Runaway Max for the first time. So, when I read this paragraph where Max describes the Camaro, I freaked out (I do that a lot):
Once, for two weeks back in April, I thought that Camaro was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. It had a long, hungry body like a shark, all sleek painted panels and sharp angles. It was the kind of car you could rob a bank in. (pp 12-13)
It’s a motherf***ing equation, y’all. Billy (by way of his Camaro) = the Demogorgon = the shark in Jaws.
And the Byers have just moved to a town where the local pizza place is called Surfer Boy Pizza.
A name like that doesn’t make sense unless they really are in a beach town.
Tumblr media
Hence why I completely lost my shit when I read about Argyle. When you take all the evidence together, it looks like the Duffers have set up a situation where, figuratively, our heroes will think they see a shark in the water (aka the Demogorgon).
Tumblr media
But they’ll find out it’s not a shark. It’s a surfer boy coming back to shore.
Tumblr media
Hints and leaks have confirmed this idea so far. The Stranger Things social media accounts teased the following exchange last year:
“What if it’s the Demogorgon?” “It’s not the Demogorgon.”
Tumblr media
Just a couple weeks ago, we got our first photo of the Surfer Boy Pizza delivery truck (credit: strangerinsidebr on IG). And the writing on the side is telling.
Tumblr media
The writing in the center doesn’t say, “Surfer Boy Pizza delivered hot to your door.” It says, “Surfer Boy delivered hot to your door.” The ‘pizza’ is way off to the side.
They’re making a joke, guys. A fuckin joke.
Tumblr media
“Surfer boy delivered HOT to your door ;)”
Jokes aside, the potential for Billy’s intro scene is so CLEAR and VIVID that I took a stab at sketching out how it could happen. Obviously I don’t think it has to happen this way; the writers have plenty of wiggle room. But it illustrates the kind of scene I have in mind:
Episode 3: “The Survivor”
All this time, hints have been building that Billy is still alive. Creepy things keep happening that remind us of Will trying to communicate from the Upside Down in S1 (flickering lights, people feeling "haunted" by his "ghost," etc). At the end of the episode, a thunderstorm rolls into the Byers' beach town. Will and El are together at home, probably alone. As it's raining and thundering, strange things begin to happen that frighten them. They get a creepy phone call; the power goes out, but only at their house; etc. Remembering that horrific night three years ago, Will races to the window to look out. El follows him. Through the rain, they see a form swaying toward the house. Terrified, Will wants to leave, but El stops him. "But El, what if it's the Demogorgon?" "It's not the Demogorgon." They back away from the door and wait. To their shock, the chain unlocks by itself. The door opens, and their visitor walks in, looking like a drowned cat with a nosebleed. Billy.
Tumblr media
God, I’m freaking out again just writing all this out lololol. I need to go lie down.
BILLY’S COMING BACK, BITCHES.
Peace.  ✌️
