Where do you find these manuscripts? Is it like a website or do you find it randomly??

hey, thanks for the curiosity! lenghty answer below the cut :)

1)

medieval manuscripts are typically owned by libraries and showcased on the library's websites. so one thing i do is i randomly browse those digitized manuscript collections (like the collections of the bavarian state library or the bodleian libraries, to name just two), which everybody can do for free without any special access. some digital collections provide more useful tools than others (like search functions, filters, annotations on each manuscript). if they don't, the process of wading through numerous non-illustrated manuscripts before i find an illustrated one at all can be quite tedious.

there are databases which help to navigate the vast sea of manuscripts. the one i couldn't live without personally use the most is called KdIH (Katalog der deutschsprachigen illustrierten Handschriften des Mittelalters). it's a project which aims to list all illustrated medieval manuscripts written in german dialects. the KdIH provides descriptions of the contents of each manuscript (with a focus on the illustrations), and if there's a digital reproduction of a manuscript available anywhere, the KdIH usually links to it. the KdIH is an invaluable tool for me because of its focus on illustrated manuscripts, because of the informations it provides for each manuscript, and because of its useful search function (once you've gotten over the initial confusion of how to navigate the website). the downside is that it includes only german manuscripts, which is one of the main reasons for the over-representation of german manuscripts on my blog (sorry about that).

another important database for german manuscripts in general (i.e. not just illustrated ones) is the handschriftencensus, which catalogues information regarding the entirety of german language manuscripts of the middle ages, and also links to the digital reproductions of each manuscript.

then there are simply considerable snowball effects. if you do even just superficial research on any medieval topic at all (say, if you open the wikipedia article on alchemy), you will inevitably stumble upon mentions of specific illustrated manuscripts. the next step is to simply search for a digital copy of the manuscript in question (this part can sometimes be easier said than done, especially when you're coming from wikipedia). one thing to keep in mind is that a manuscript illustration seldom comes alone - so every hint to any illustration at all is a greatly valuable one (if you do what i do lol). there's always gonna be something interesting in any given illustrated manuscript. (sidenote: one very effective 'cheat code' would be to simply go through all manuscripts that other online hobbyist archivers of manuscript illustrations have gone through before - like @discardingimages on tumblr - but some kind of 'professional pride' detains me from doing so. that's just a kind of stubbornness though. like, i want to find my material more or less on my own, not just the images but also the manuscripts, and i apply arbitrary rules to my search as to what exactly that means.)

5)

whatever tool or strategy i use to find specific illustrated manuscripts-- in the end, one unavoidable step is to actually manually skim through the (digitized) manuscript. i usually have at least a quick look at every single illustrated page, and i download or screenshot everything that is interesting to me. this process can take up to an hour per manuscript.

in conclusion, i'd say that finding cool illuminated manuscripts is much simpler than i would have thought before i started this blog. there are so many of them out there and they're basically just 'hidden in plain side', it's really astounding. finding the manuscripts doesn't require special skills, just some basic experience with/knowledge of the tools available. the reason i'm able to post interesting images almost daily is just that i spend a lot of time doing all of this, going through manuscripts, curating this blog, etc. i find a lot of comfort in it, i learn a lot along the way, and i immensely enjoy people's engagement with my posts. so that's that :)

Something that's been developing recently is radqueer being a movement that involves being supportive of pro-contact for harmful paraphilias among other things. It overlaps a lot with transID.

It's safe to assume if there's radqueer in the blog description or tags, the person likely is at least neutral on pro-contact pedophilies and beastiality.

Yeah, I'm unfortunately aware. I typically don't assume it unless I can find something pointing to it, because that's a pretty big accusation, but yeah.

Which, like... it makes sense, unfortunately, because it's hard for me to rationalize a standpoint that supports the idea of being transage, but doesn't support statutory rape. Either:

you believe transage people should be treated as their age identity, in which case if a 15yo who identifies as a 30yo has sex with a "cis"30yo, or a 30yo who identifies as a 15yo has sex with a "cis"15yo, it's "not" statutory rape, or

you acknowledge that those scenarios are statutory rape, and therefore that it's not safe or healthy to treat a transage person as their age identity in many circumstances (not just this one, this is just the most obvious/extreme example), which is not usually acceptable to the transID/radqueer community from what I've seen. (Which, admittedly I don't exactly run in those circles, so)

And like... you could say the same about being nonhuman, I guess, except a) it seems like there's a lot less cultural pressure in the nonhuman community to treat other nonhumans as being Exactly 1:1 The Same as a "cisspecies animal", from what I've seen, and b) it's a lot easier to draw a line of treating someone as nonhuman in some ways but not others than it is with age, because like... kind of the only reasons you (should) treat someone of a certain age differently are safety reasons. Whether that's because of literal cognitive differences or because of lack of life experience or because of power dynamics. There's... not really a way to treat someone as older or younger than they are without ignoring those things as far as I can see, because outside of those things you should probably be treating people about the same anyway.

This is even funnier because he's also one of the oldest Links (29) but some things never change with age....

Skyloft & Chief can probably go for *hours* about medical stuff

Minish gets excitable about smith work, constructs and so on and loves to study things and diagrams. The odds of him, Chief, Hateno, and Smith getting fascinated by the Beetle is 100%.

Kokiri, Ordon and Prince would go on about horses and also combat.

Outset loves wrestling, boats and water obviously, and rope ties, which he's pretty sad about not having that many people to geek with.

Far, Rabbit, Hateno, and Ordon have very fun conversations that nobody else wants to overhear (sex), which are completely different from the ones he has with Four and Kokiri, which nobody wants to overhear for entirely different reasons (commiserating about traumatic events)!

okay so you're very close but it's these fuckers

this is the leaf sheep and he's a type of sacoglossan sea slug. he is bioluminescent and capable of photosynthesis because he retains the chloroplasts from the algae he eats!! he's extremely tiny, about .5-1cm in length, and he looks like a little sheep made of leaves. hence the name. he also, in my opinion, looks like a pokemon.

he is closely related to the nudibranch, an order of sea slugs that lack an internal shell and have external gills.

the reason I say you were close is because there is a species of nudibranch called a sea bunny!!!! and they're so cute!!!!!!

Okay so hear me out.

So when the Bite of 83 happens, obviously Evan's gonna experience some physical injuries to head.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how the heck did Evan not like, lose his memories or something. His head got CRUSHED

What if Evan lost his memories because of the Bite, and Micheal has to help him

And then Evan asks Micheal why does he have a scar on his head

And why do some of his memories have Micheal tormenting him

And Micheal doesn't know what to say

Like Micheal is using this to be a better brother to Evan since he doesn't remember anything

And 2 things could happen:

1. he has to explain to Evan that he has been a horrible brother

2. He doesn't say anything about and lets Evan figure it out by memories possibly coming back or other people telling him

This was a late night thought and I wanted to hear your opinion of it

That's a really great idea, one that would be so fun to play with.

I think it'd be fun if Mike tried to be a Good Brother by reminding Evan of all the good times they shared together, but Evan has lost a lot of these good memories along with the bad, too. Mike tries reminding Evan of times when they were happy together, times when they actually felt like brothers, and is hurt to find that Evan has no recollection of some of the most important memories Mike has of Evan, of the happy memories that Mike clinged onto during the days/weeks/months that Evan was in his coma.

Maybe, in a more extreme case where Ev lost even more memories, most of the time when Ev looks at Mike, he just sees some... stranger. He knows Mike is his brother. He knows Mike is supposed to be important to him, so... why doesn't he feel very much when looking at Mike?

The idea you raise about Mike trying to keep the past a secret, and Evan gradually gets his memories back, reminds me a lot of my grab&go au. Grab&go Mike actively gets frustrated and mad at Evan when Ev starts remembering things, so it would be interesting to see if this Mike would do the same, or if Ev remembering would fuel his desire to be a Good Big Brother even more

But the idea of Mike confessing and trying to be honest as he strives to be a better brother is heartbreaking, too.
