FEBHYURARY 2024 :: Day 18 - Shard
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And someday we will remember that, after all, they were two surges from the same tide: brother and sister, bull and girl, allies untangling labyrinth-shaped childhoods. They have waited and will wait again (his human hand memorizing empty walls, doors without locks, stairs to nowhere; her cadaverous fists clutching at the balcony rail) for the promise of white sails grown hazy against the knife of the horizon. Atonement - a bronze sword, a dawning sun, the bitterness of blood staining dark a ball of thread.

List of Funny Movies
Whenever you get back home depleted from work, help yourself out and break out this rundown of amusing motion pictures. When you've discovered one you like, snatch it from the nearby video store and watch all the pressure liquefy away through the mending intensity of chuckling (Patch Adams would back me up on this). While current perusers might be new to the accompanying movies, take a gander at it as a chance to encounter the parody greats of a former age.
The Apartment (1960) - Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine exhibit their on-screen science right now lighthearted comedy. Lemmon is C.C. Baxter, a humble worker who permits his bosses to utilize his loft for extramarital trysts. At the point when he falls for a lift administrator (MacLaine), he's constrained into picking among adoration and his vocation. Questionable for now is the ideal time, The Apartment was designated for 10 Oscars and won five (counting Best Director and Best Picture) https://gomovies-online.vip/brands-pages/solarmovie Groundhog Day (1993) - Bill Murray adds another satire pearl to his resume right now anecdote about a self-retained TV meteorologist who gradually changes his point of view when he's compelled to remember that day again and again. Andie MacDowell co-stars as the well-intentioned TV maker who wins his heart at last. A genuine grandstand for Murray's gifts as a savvy alec. Coordinated and co-composed by Harold Ramis (who co-featured close by Murray in Ghostbusters).
Tumblr media
Feline Ballou (1965) - Lee Marvin won a Best Actor Oscar for his double job as opponent Old West gunfighters (one's an alcoholic and different has a metal nose) on either side of a disagreement regarding a farm. Jane Fonda is the steadfast girl who turns into a bandit to see her dad's executioner brought to equity, and the film's subject and portrayal are conveyed by Stubby Kaye and Nat King Cole. Despite the fact that it's essentially a parody, Cat Ballou is still seen as perhaps the best film of the western type.
She Done Him Wrong (1933) - Filled with renowned two sided sayings, this Mae West vehicle stars the hearty blonde as a bar vocalist who's stirred up with a lot of obscure characters. A youthful Cary Grant co-stars as a government operator professing to be the chief of a neighborhood good cause. As he tries to stop the criminal operations occurring at the bar where she works, West starts the way toward luring the youthful do-gooder. Checking in at 66 minutes, it despite everything holds the record as the most brief film to ever be selected for a Best Picture Oscar.
Father of the Bride (1950) - When his little girl reports that she's getting hitched, a dad (Spencer Tracy) should hysterically deal with the costs and ensure everything goes off effortlessly. Selected for thee Academy Awards, the parody great co-featured Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Bennett, and Leo G. Carroll. The next year saw the continuation, Father's Little Dividend, hit theaters, and Steve Martin would feature an effective redo in 1991.
Silver Streak (1976) - Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor collaborate without precedent for this Arthur Hiller film that joins components of the satire and spine chiller classes. More stunning plays a book editorial manager going from L.A. to Chicago on the train known as the Silver Streak, when he abruptly ends up made up for lost time in murder and interest coming from the phony of two Rembrandt compositions. Jill Clayburgh is the affection intrigue, Pryor is a wily cheat who helps, and Patrick McGoohan is the lowlife who doesn't warmly embrace being uncovered as a lawbreaker.

1: The Great Scout and Cathouse Thursday
2: Emmanuelle - The Joys of a Woman / The Happy Hooker
After Lee Marvin won the best actor Oscar for his dual role in the comedy western Cat Ballou (1965), he continued to be cast in similarly funny roles in other westerns such as Paint Your Wagon and Monte Walsh. In that line The Great Scout and Cathouse Thursday attempts unsuccessfully to emulate the zany humor of Cat Ballou. In reality it comes a bit closer to replicating the daffy exaggerated tone of Support Your Local Sheriff (1969) with James Garner, but doesn’t come off very well in that comparison either. Backing Marvin is Oliver Reed, making a pair that seems like can’t-lose casting until you realize that Reed is playing a half-breed Indian and it’s surely one of his silliest roles ever. What must have seemed like gags and jokes in the script are plentiful, but laughs are scarce and scenery-chewing is rampant. Robert Culp seems to be enjoying himself as the villain who embezzled a mining fortune from Marvin plus stole and married his girlfriend (Elizabeth Ashley). Prolific TV actress Kay Lenz is Cathouse Thursday, an aspiring prostitute. Why not walk over to Theater Two and see a successful prostitute in The Happy Hooker?
[For commentary on Emmanuelle - The Joys of a Woman see the entry for July 23, 1976. For commentary on The Happy Hooker see the entry for August 8, 1975].

The Sunday Papers http://bit.ly/2EhDfCw
Tumblr media
Sundays are for being lazy. Here’s the best writing about videogames from the past week. (Although this week is unusually light on vidgams. You’re welcome/sorry.)
For Vice (which Waypoint has now regrettably been folded back into, by the way), Elizabeth Ballou delved into the fascinating and sometimes creepy world of Ingress, an augmented reality game about spies and logistics. I love how people get so deeply invested, but the way that tips over into genuine harassment is disturbing. Ballou’s article is only about that in part though. It’s riveting and you should read it despite the slightly misleading headline.
