Maybe he was the soak on the bus...
Endeavour - Terminus (8.3)
Strange to Endeavour: ‘A drunk, medium height, medium build, clerk type, 30s possibly.’
Endeavour to DeBryn: ‘Maybe he was the soak on the bus. Strange said the conductor mentioned there was a drunk, 30s, average height and build.’

Thursday: 'You don't remember, do you? You're the drunk on the bus that we've been looking for!'

8x03 Terminus
I really liked this episode!!!! Morse being sad and lonely and ruffled is so bittersweet. Him missing work and being compleatly wasted on the bus. I just want to give him a hug. And I loved his look, the curly hair and the scarf with the coat. Lovely. And Thursday acting like a father, so worried about him.. breaks my heart. And the parallell with the ”good servent, lousy master” about the drinking… wow, the foreshadowing on that one. Awesome. And the Agatha Cristie-/horror film vibe about the plot! So good. There were so many parts to this episode and I adored every single one. Can’t wait for next season!!!!!

Oooh - please can I request an Endeavour fic for the whump alphabet with "shivers"? I love your work!
Of course you can! I'm sorry it took me so long to do this one, I wrote it, rewatched the episode, realised it didn't entirely fit with canon and then sat on it for a bit trying to figure it out a way to make it work.
Long story short, I decided I like how this version came out instead. So, here's a slightly alternative ending to 8x03 Terminus with Morse and Thursday. I hope you like it!
There was a stillness in the air, despite the noise of the cars and officers that had descended on the crime scene. Now that the storm had passed and the sun was rising, there was a calmness that Thursday embraced. A soothing balm in the cold air. Morse was safe, he’d done that much. And if Morse could be saved then so could Sam. Thursday glanced at Morse, standing silently next to him. He was safe but hardly okay, Thursday hadn’t missed how his hand had shook when he’d rubbed at tired eyes. “When was the last time….?” Morse ducked his head, hiding his eyes as if ashamed of what Thursday would see in them, and nodded back towards the building. “Its like it was frozen in time.” He said quietly. “There was... a bottle in the bar.” “Good.” Morse lifted his head sharply, letting Thursday see the confusion in his eyes. “You want to do it where you’ve got help, not alone and especially not where there are murderers on the loose.” Where you’re safe. Morse nodded absent-mindedly, agreeing with Thursday even as his thoughts were drifting miles away. “I thought I…” Morse paused, turning his face up to the sky and breathing out a puff of air. “but I wasn’t-- I-- I’m not.” “You will be.” Fred put his hand on Morse’s shoulder, feeling the fine shivers running through his exhausted body. “You will be.” You have to be.

Explanation of Endeavour episodes' titles
i have come to notice many episodes were named with peculiar titles alluring to episode theme with undertone of dark academia symbolism, drawing words from mythology, music, art, culture, which adds to sense of elevated academia mannerism of whole narrative and setting.
I will not be commenting on how the name fits the story, for i do not wish to spoil anyone anything.
Fellow endeavour fans, feel free to add any other peculiar observation.
Season 1
ep.2. Fugue - In music, a fugue is a contrapuntal compositional technique in more than two voices, built on a subject that is introduced at the beginning in imitation and which recurs frequently in the course of the composition. (wikipedia)
-a musical composition in which one or two themes are repeated or imitated by successively entering voices and contrapuntally  developed in a continuous interweaving of the voice parts. (merriam webster)
*i think that is that choir singing that builds up and always plays in background throughout the series
Season 2
ep.2. Nocturne -  work of art dealing with evening or night especially : a dreamy pensive composition for the piano
Season 3
ep.4. Coda - a concluding part of a literary or dramatic work; serves as conclusion to events that need to be rounded out.
Season 4
ep.2. Canticle - a hymn or chant, body of text in bible or in Divine Comedy or other work that rhymes and it is one distinguished part of work; like chapter in book, but it rhymes.
ep.3. Lazaretto - quarantine for those with contagious illness;  A lazaretto is a quarantine station for maritime travelers (from east that came to Venice mostly hence Lazaretto Island) Historically, lazarettos were used to control outbreaks of cholera and plague found on board visiting ships.
Season 5
ep.6. Icarus - boy who flew too high to sun so his wings made of wax melted and he fell into ocean and died. his father who made him wings to escape from minotaur's labyrinth, but boy ignored the warning striving for higher
Season 6
ep4. Degüello - spanish battle music, song that conveys hate and complete destruction of enemy without mercy, it also marks bringing an end to struggle that has been threatening to upend the familiar and safe, the return to normal
Season 7
ep2. Raga - traditional indian music
ep.3. Zenana -in muslim and hindu homes part of a house for the seclusion of women
Season 8
ep.2. Scherzo - in music composition type; short, lively piece of classical music which is usually part of a longer piece of music
-in british English it also means a joke, a prank (idk if this is true)
ep.3. Terminus (lat.) - the end of a railway or other transport route, or a station at such a point; a terminal.
-an extreme point of something
-a final goal : a finishing point
Season 9
ep3. Exeunt (lat.) - instruction written in a play indicating that a group of actors leave the stage

If I was able to write fanfic I'd like to do a version of Terminus where Joan was on the bus too.
OTOH it was fun to see Morse as a fish out of water with nobody he could trust or who trusted him, and Joan being there would defeat the point of his isolation and Thursday being worried about him.
But part of me always wanted another episode where Morse and Joan were forced to interact for an extended period of time, and that scenario would've been perfect for them to confront their baggage. Plus I like the idea of Joan getting a chance to have more to do and being directly involved in a mystery.

End-of-season saving-each-others’-lives by my favourite disaster detectives. A list.
Here be spoilers for all seasons of Endeavour
Pilot: no life-saving, but Morse didn’t end up with a cracked skull on the floor of the mortuary which is nice.
(Bonus mid-series 1 (Fugue): Thursday deploys a coat blanket. Morse risks his life to save Thursday.)
Series 1 finale (Home): Morse saves Thursday. Then Thursday saves Morse (killing someone in the process).
(Bonus series 2 premier (Trove): Thursday saves Morse and ensures he’ll get care while recovering.)
Series 2 finale (Neverland): they have an heroic last stand but external factors do the necessary life-saving, and it’s not without cost.
Series 3 finale (Coda): Morse risks his life to save Joan; Thursday saves them both.
Series 4 finale (Harvest): together they save a large region of England, including each other.
Series 5 finale (Icarus): Fancy. *sobs*
Series 6 finale (Degüello): Morse saves Thursday’s soul from Box’s influence. Thursday, Strange, and Bright save Morse physically, and the four of them save Max. Then Box saves Thursday and Morse.
Series 7 finale (Zenana): Thursday risks his life to save Morse (killing someone else in the process), even though they’ve barely been speaking and he had to go to Venice to do it.
Series 8 finale (Terminus): Thursday saves Morse, risking his marriage to do so.
Series 9 finale (Exeunt): Thursday saves Sam. He does it in an understandable but very-bad-no-good way. Morse saves Thursday, Sam, and Win, and undertakes to look out for Joan and Strange, but sacrifices his closeness with them all (esp Thursday) in order to do so. Cue heartbreak.
(There was also further lifesaving, practical care, sweetness, etc. throughout. As well as less happy moments. And a complete lack of them ever using their words to say how they very very blatantly feel about each other.)
HOW AM I EXPECTED TO BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS.

Decadin squinted at the fine print. “My name?”
“Yeah, just means we can use your name and likeness for branding, maybe put it on our intellectual property.”
Decadin looked back up at the Chief Executive Officer. “I am not comfortable with that. My name isn’t your property.”
“I assure you, these are standard terms for national heroes.” The CEO kept his eyes on the toast he was adorning with honey. “It’s not that deep, we can even purge the part about your likeness. But I’m insistent about using your name for endeavours that’ll make history. You and I, we’re going to build each other’s legacies.”
The CEO punctuated his point with a bite. He imagined Decadin’s name on buildings, ships and advertisements, and all the investors drawn in by the endorsement of a celebrity scientist. Decadin saw his name on off-brand toothpaste and Spinning Flyers made for war.
“If my name goes on something unethical…”
“We’ll talk about it,” the CEO said through a mouthful of stickiness.
Decadin shook his head, signed this page of the contract, and flipped to the next.

In commemoration of the Acolyte’s death, Terminus founded Decadin Suppression Services Inc., a subsidiary holding a State-granted monopoly—and obligation—for suppression tower repairs. Terminus did some lying, the Church did some whining, and DSSI even acquired a leadership role in maintaining the Aether Suppressor, which technically made Decadin Inc. a sacred entity protected by religious law.
It’s not easy having a monopoly. DSSI had to move its headquarters to Pelbee, despite the outrageous rent costs, all for the Emperor’s satisfaction that the best personnel would be readily available to service the world-saving relic. But the company made the most of their forced relocation, drawing direct inspiration from the building design that its namesake once daydreamed about.
Terminus built new highway exits leading right into Decadin Tower, maximizing transport efficiency. The building’s outer surface is white, standing for the brightness of tomorrow, while green streetlights and a single purple stripe represent the adaptability they need in the present. Far above, floating vehicles let the most important people and products bypass a long elevator ride to the top. But Decadin Tower has no text. It doesn’t need any, for its sacred duty is evident in all languages from one look at its renowned logo: two orange circles left to interpretation.

Endeavour ep today!
I actually managed to rewatch s5-s8 in time. I prioritised those ones cause I'm pretty sure I've only seen them once before (as they came out). s6 - satisfying, and somehow shorter than it is in my memory. s7 was silly and weird for no real reason. s8 was good on the whole and even though Terminus is also silly, I quite enjoy it. now it's time to fret about Thursday.
