Exploring the Misty Hills of Munnar
Tumblr media
After days of planning for a vacation, the family trip finally made it out of the group chat.  It was a three-day trip to Munnar hills of Idukki district, a 6-hour drive from our hometown. My excited self couldn’t control my eagerness, so I packed my suitcase 2 days prior and it was backed up by my equally excited cousins. We started our journey on March 4 (my birthday) making the day a lot more special for me. After a small celebration with my close friends and family, and the most Indian thing of packing half of the house and a dozen water bottles, we started our trip by dawn.
Our first stop was Wonder Valley amusement park. After a delicious breakfast buffet, we reached there half an hour before the opening time. Zipline, Bungee jumping, Rappelling, and commando net were the main highlights of the park. It was my first zipline experience. My sister couldn’t join us because she was underweight and like every typical elder sister I was showing off to her how good it was. I invested all my innate strengths into bungee jumping but changed my mind after seeing my cousin being dragged out into thin air. We engaged ourselves in various adventurous activities and games for the whole day. Amma and Acha had to scream to get us out of the park.
After a tiring yet amazing day, we checked in to our resort for the night. It was in the middle of the forest, 30 km away from the park. We had a campfire but everyone was too exhausted to dance. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the barbecue.  I was a little skeptical of seeing myself waking up at 4 am the next day to see the sunrise at Kolukkumalai Peaks, but my cousins did a wonderful job pouring water on my face. We headed to the peak in a truck. The beauty of that sunrise was beyond words. After enjoying the clouds, the sunrise, and the weather we came back to the resort with a handful of pictures.
Our next stop was mattupetty dam. On the way there we stopped at a strawberry farm. We passed several stunning tea gardens and they all proved to be very good spots for clicking pictures. Mattupetty dam was more crowded than expected. But we enjoyed the boat ride and jet ski although we stood for about an hour to get the tickets. We bought snacks, had lunch, and went trekking over tree-covered mountains with breathtaking panoramas and echo effects. We checked into a new resort in town after the 4-hour trekking experience. It was a nice little cozy place.
Eravikulam national park and anamudi peak was our last destinations. The national park housed a plethora of flora and fauna and was one of my favorite spots during the whole trip. We saw different breeds of deer, goats, and birds. After having lunch we left the park for Anamudi Peak. The peak had breathtaking views and scenery. As we were getting late we only spent an hour there. The trip finally came to an end. We headed back home by nightfall with a bag full of strawberries and a handful of memories.
