While skeptical about the world her family envisioned with THE DARK LORD [leader], she knew her alliance to them would mean safety. Immersing herself amongst the wizarding aristocracy again was no small feat. The people she grew up despising for their flippant nature were the few she found herself reluctantly making small talk with in order to appease. I still don't know how to rate this book and I'll probably need a second read to do it properly. One thing is certain: I really really liked it. It's this book's fault if I reentered my 'I'm fixated on Shakespeare' phase. Now I want to read every play that is named in this book so that I can reread it and fully understand it. It's so full of subtle details argggg I love these things.

The midnight club by Christopher Pike

This book was a disappointment, it is so ugly. I got interested in it because I watched the tv series on netflix and I adored it (I really recommend it) but mr netflix cancelled the second season and I wanted to know more about these characters, so I picked the book up. The midnight club didn't age well, while you read it you feel it's old. The characters are unlikeble and you can really tell they are written by a man, they show no depth.

I was a bit disappointed by this book, don't get me wrong, I liked it but I expected more from it. I couldn't empathise with Evangeline and Jacks the way I always do with good characters. They have a great potential as characters, especially Jacks, but Stephanie Garber didn't really exploit this potential in this first book. I'll definitely read the second one.

Words cannot describe how much I love and I'm obsessed with these books. Bree is a wonderful protagonist, she is human, she has flaws, she isn't perfect, she felt real to me. I also think the other characters were wonderful, Sel (my fav together with Bree), William, Alice, Nick. I loved them all. One thing I didn't like about the first book was the development of the relationship between Bree and Nick, it was too hurried and it did get on my nerves. I liked the second book better than the first one, also the ending was *chef kiss* I adored Tracy for that. Please pick these two up, I can't wait to read the third one.

Fucking yes I loved it. I adore greek mythology and I knew I would liked this book. Patroclus my baby, he really is the best of the Myrmidons. Sadly the ending felt a bit subdued compared to the rest of the book.

Once Upon a Broken Heart, Stephanie Garber - ⅗ ☆

Disclaimer, I read this a couple of weeks ago and didn’t write anything down so, I might misremember things, miss things, or mention things that actually happen in book two. Sorry.

I expected a lot out of this, and ended up not getting much. I tend to get annoyed and start angrily rambling when this happens, but I was mostly just upset. I was recommended this by my best friend, who really enjoyed it. I trust her opinions, so I was excited. But there was just something missing for me. 

The plot is kept vague and secretive the entire book. It reminded me a little of “the game” in Masters of Death by Olivie Blake, which I ended up not finishing because of the intentional vagueness. It’s just a personal preference, but I can’t care about the plot if I don’t know what it is. 

The characters seemed semi-interesting, but it seemed like most of the attention was given to Jacks, which still wasn’t a lot. It kind of has ACOTAR-syndrome, where the plan is for more books, so development is extremely slow. Maybe I’m just one of those iPad baby dopamine addicts who want plot fast but, this is my opinion blog so you get the iPad baby opinion. 

Evangline, my pink-haired princess

Now, the title of this section is misleading, because I don’t actually like her that much. However, her hair is naturally pink so she automatically gets a few points in my book.

I don’t want to call her the dumbest protagonist I’ve ever read, but off the top of my head, I can’t think of a dumber one. I’ll try to be nicer to her and say naive. She sees the best in her obviously evil stepsister, drinks poison that is labeled “POISON” in the name of love, and trusts a guy she was told repeatedly throughout life not to trust because he looked trustworthy and she missed her boyfriend. 

In her defense, I’d do anything for my husband, but I think if I turned myself to stone for him he’d do something to un-stone me but hey, what can you do?

She seems to not trust Jacks when he’s doing nice things for her, but trusts him deeply when he’s doing something obviously nefarious. 

But again her hair is pink, and I love her. 

Jacks, the Prince of My Heart

Sometimes he pisses me off but at the end of the day I love him. Even though he’s blonde. 

I was about to say I loved this little freak from the beginning. I didn’t, I actually thought he was a little too weird (rare for me), but in hindsight, I love this little freak from the beginning.

Something so romantic about calling your future love interest pathetic for wanting the very thing you’re cursed to also want.

I hate to say it, but I do love Jacks for more what he could be, not what he is in this book. I love characters that seem themselves as irredemable monsters, simply because they haven’t met anyone that thinks otherwise. (I’ll talk about you later, Selwyn Kane). 

But, Jacks doesn’t seem to change his mind at all throughout the entire book. Dedicated to the bit, I guess, but we rarely see who he really is. I got a glimpse of it on page 196 with his masochism speech, which I loved. I was so excited to learn more! Then he returned to exactly what he was a couple of pages earlier. We get a bit of his backstory near the end, but something about it didn’t feel fulfilling. It’s possible I just didn’t care about his ex-true love because I just wanted to pick him and Evangeline up like dolls and make them kiss. I have my faults.

This book in particular I’d love opinions and different perspectives on. I really wanted to like this book. I really wanted to care about Jacks more. It just felt like a lot of setup for the rest of the series, rather than a book that can stand on its own.

Evangeline wasn't amused hearing word of another ball, did these things ever end? She was fed up listening to her mother ramble on about the importance of good impressions and networking amongst the families. Her initial reaction was rolling her eyes, fully intending to hide away at work for a few days until her mother sorted her outfit and jewels.

Her dress was golden, with hints of blue that flickered in as Evangeline swirled around her room. Glancing at herself in the mirror. No matter how many ball gowns Eva wore, none of them ever felt natural. It wasn't her. The figure looking back at her was nothing more than a mere shell of who her family wanted her to be. Eva had never been interested in this life, this society, these dresses. Evangeline Selwyn couldn't wait for this charade to be over.

However, this objection shifted slightly upon hearing that it was a ball centered around the summer solstice, something which divination-obsessed Evangeline had always enjoyed. It was this discovery that pushed Eva to incorporate this passion into her outfit. Deciding that if she was being forced to go, she may as well have fun with her outfit? With an imperial topaz ring donning her right ring finger and a citrine cleansing necklace clasped around her neck.

While the Ministry tried to cover up the death, Evangeline can sense that River is holding reservations and the secrets of what really happened that night.

Devastated, Eva returned to England with a shattered heart, broken dreams and grief that was beyond comparison. Isolated in an attempt to numb her heart ache, despite efforts to be consoled by Rowan nothing seemed to ease her. Reluctantly, the Selwyn’s started to make more of an appearance in her life again. Leaning heavily on her brother, Edrick spoke of a new world where creatures didn’t have to live in fear or discrimination. Holding onto hope that life could be better for sorcerers like River, Eva is slowly turning towards the ideology that it could be the best way forward to help everyone. Influenced back into the grasp of their father, his fury upon her return could have burned the manor to the ground. Adamant she brought shame onto the family name, his ‘teachings’ had been ill in comparison to the torment she faced upon return. Long sleeves hiding scars from cursed quills, Eva fell back in line with the Selwyn’s. Distancing herself from her friends to prove loyalty to her family, she took a job within the Ministry under her father’s guidance that having sorcerers hold Ministry positions would come in useful when the time came. Taking the opportunity and using her status as an unspeakable as an advantage, Eva has been looking into Nova’s murder with the help of NOBREGAS THORNE. Though she is still skeptical about the world her family envision with THE DARK LORD, Evangeline is starting to grasp that being closer to the death eaters could mean safety. Security for the family, herself and friends when the new world comes to light, but she is keeping her head down and counting her plays in the mean time.

She had been spreading the word of drinks after everything at the Fountain as well, something she hoped her sisters were okay with but she figured that was a conversation she could deal with later. Tedious were the restrictions that came with being a family deemed royalty, which she had no mind of following. Abandoning etiquette lessons in favor of exploration with partner in crime GABRIEL DUMONT [best friend]; despite her mother’s efforts, her heart was boisterous with a lust of life that was difficult to quench. Hiding among muggles, Claude found herself encapsulated by them. Riveting conversations with a sense of normality filled the simplicity she craved that was lacking in their manor. After her uncle disgraced the family and ran off with his harlot; her father stepped up as the sole male heir. The line passed to a man who never wanted to be seen high, though his love for his family outweighed any of his desires. Out of any, Claudette was most like her father. The last thing she wished, was to disappoint her family like her uncle had. While she longed for normality; she knew it was merely a fantasy. Instead she bit her tongue, stood straighter and smiled, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t throw in a quick witted remark to put even the most pompous of noble sorcerers in their place. 

With Beauxbatons, came escapism, freedom and life. Corralled by RAPHAEL FRANCOIS [close friend] and Gabriel, they dueled until sunset and acted as each other’s wingmen. While many of the girls spent their days gushing over romance, beauty potions and braided hair like her sister Lynette, Claude saw no interest; instead she sought liberty and her own voice. Bolstering the determination to stand up for others against the likes of ALEXANDRA ROSIER [rival] and her entourage, Claude made friends in unexpected places; particularly in Muggle-Born JACQUELINE LEJEUNE [best friend]. While her oldest sister sought to be friends with the ‘right people’, Claude made genuine friendships to last a lifetime. Possessing a politically inclined mind, summers brought time with her father at learning the intricacy of his work at the ministry. Leading to her quick decision to study to become an Auror much to her mother’s dismay. She excelled in her studies, although she was often in trouble for her quick wit and prejudiced demeanor; she was an excellent student. Acquiring a job as an Auror within the Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France after graduation; she’d found a profession she loved and a witch in whom to hold her affection. 

EVANGELINE SELWYN [former partner/potential love interest], was someone that Claudette never expected. A summer whirlwind romance the pair quickly fell deeply for one another. Encapsulated in each other’s arms, the problems of the world seemed to evaporate at the simple brush of a hand. Despite having to hide their relationship from Claudette’s family, the pair were passionately connected. Summer turned to years. Having met at twenty two, after four years together it felt as though nothing could pull them apart. Unfortunately fate had other plans with Claudette’s mother orchestrating an arranged marriage to pure-blood ALEXANDER TREMBLAY [husband/potential love interest]. Outraged, having sacrificed her freedom for so many years, her heart was non-negotiable. Desiring to love freely, she refused. Unbeknownst to anyone, she was planning to propose to Evageline. Visiting home one last time to share news with her siblings, her plans of a quick escape were rifled. With her mother discovering her intentions, she trapped her in her room; adamant that she couldn’t stand idle and let her ruin the family for a ‘wishful fantasy’. Charmed locks, no wand and no means of escape. Despite efforts to contact Eva, it was too late. With word from Gabriel that she’d left back to England heartbroken thinking Claudette had changed her mind.

With the love of her life gone, Claudette caved. Accepting Xander’s hand, having spent little time with her ‘beloved’, a day that many dreamed of was one she was dreading. Holding him guilty for her unhappiness she became cold and aloof. Transferring across seas with rumors of war encapsulating London, she disguised the move as playing ‘happy fiance’. Knowing her heart was really set on protecting one particular witch no matter the cost. While she had prepared herself for chaos, it was unlike anything she’d experienced. With the murder of BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest] and the rise in creature attacks, The Ministry was scrabbling to hold onto control in a society struck with chaos. Investigations only led to empty leads and convenient evidence that the Ministry blindly agreed to to fit their own narrative. Political warfare on the wise, any claims against what those in power wished were dismissed. However their silence shattered with the solstice of summer 1983 tearing the community to shreds. Fighting against masked figures who claimed to be ‘Death Eaters’, the witch had been helping civilians to safety one moment before a blow to the head turned everything black. Awaking only to be found in handcuffs for the murder of AMELIA BONES [close friend/former romantic liaison].

Detained and awaiting trial for a crime she didn’t commit, with the invasion of her mind it was proved Claudette’s innocence and that the guilty was under the influence of Polyjuice potion. Despite The Ministry’s statement, the hate spiraled towards her was maddening. Returning from Italy, Alexander became her saving grace. Averting the tabloids eager for a statement from the ‘killer’, his valiant protection eased her. For the first time she saw him as a person and not a pawn in her parents' schemes. Hidden in the Tremblay house, the witch was confined for her own safety. Leaving only under the disguise of beauty potions at the cusp of night. With the world unstable, her constant became Xander. His support, especially after being fired for ‘appearance sake’, kept her steady. While proud, it was against her better judgment that she let herself fall. And just like he had her, when MASON TREMBLAY [rival/brother in law] was found guilty for Amelia’s murder it was Claude that held him strong. Xander believed in their union, promising that in time their love would grow. Hopeful, they married privately as a commitment to each other outside of their families. Despite reservations, she didn’t feel obligated to his hand like she’d once did. She’d chosen him. Not out of sacrifice to her heart, but because of it. 

Going out on her own to investigate cases piling desks high, while ANNABETH PEBWORTH [former colleaguer/friend] warned her against it with the danger rising, it isn’t in her nature to stay on the side lines. That was until PRUDENCE OWENS [friend/colleague] approached with a card and an offer of a new place of residence. A Brief Case was filled with ex-aurors and those thrown out by the system were a breath of fresh air. Their bite for the truth filled Claudette with pride as they helped those the ministry ignored. While her work has her reluctantly investigating PERSEPHONE WILKES’ [acquaintance] distrusting claims against GENEVIEVE AVERY-WILKES [person of interest] she can’t help but be more captivated by her own personal investigations. Gathering memories of civilians from the night of the solstice, Claudette is trying to identify suspected Death Eaters; and who framed her. Those eager to forget give theirs gladly, but with the rising turbulence honesty is something lacking. Attempting to gain the trust of socialites LUCRETIA FAWLEY [person of interest] and VERUCCA BUCKTHORN-SNYDE [person of interest], Claude hopes their memories could be the missing piece she needs. However with their alliances unknown, can she afford to put herself on the line if it leads to more false trails?

Jax and Evangeline d’Alessi were said to be a match made in Heaven (or Hell, depending on who you asked). A Telepath and an Illusionist, both Enforcers, both fiercely devoted to protecting House Endine. They created fear. Jax would use his abilities to draw out a person’s worst nightmares, while Evangeline would bring them to life. They punished and tortured and interrogated, the very center of House Endine’s ambition. It was that ambition that led to their downfall. The pair were assigned to infiltrate a meeting of the Institute, hoping to discover the secrets of the organization. The events that occurred during the meeting would be a point of speculation for many years after. Because of the pair that entered, only Evangeline came out, eyes filled with madness, a shell of her former self. Some said they had it coming. Others mourned the loss of life, but couldn’t help the relieved sighs that escaped their lips. 

The Magistrate, however, ignored all this. What they saw was potential. And it came in the form of Selwyn d’Alessi, standing upright at her father’s funeral, eyes hard, no sign of tears shed. 

You can’t cry for the fallen before the battle is over, she’d said. Selwyn had inherited both of her parents’ abilities and double their ambition. In the next few years, she trained relentlessly, serving as an agent under the Magistrate. When she finally exacted revenge, razing the headquarters of the Institute to the ground, she visited her mother for the first time since the funeral. Evangeline d’Alessi showed no recognition of her daughter, but Selwyn held her hand and cried all the same. 

With her accomplishments, it was only natural that Selwyn was elected to be a Magistrate Official. She was driven and calculating, but wore a mask of carefully practiced charm. A bright smile here, clever joke there, and it was all too easy to forget that she could paint nightmares in the open air. But it wasn’t evil that hid under her mask. It was simply emptiness. She had seen how dealing in shadows and monsters had driven her mother to madness. After all, they created the fears of others. The images never quite went away, even after a wave of her hand dissipated the illusion. Only by detaching herself to her emotions could Selwyn continue down her path - though sometimes she thought she saw the madness of her mother’s eyes looking back at her in the mirror.

there are three ways into st. mungo’s hospital for magical maladies and injuries - the muggle building facade, the doors leading to a secret magically concealed garden and apparition. all three are locked. no way in. no way out. ‘ST. MUNGO’S PATIENTS, HEALERS AND VISITORS TAKEN HOSTAGE’ is blasted through every radio, whispered in every store, cried in every house and printed on every newspaper, and in the span of one hour, three are confirmed dead.

it began like every other day at the hospital, with patients in floating stretchers, healers running around, visitors asking the receptionists the same question for the fifth time. that was, until every floor was filled with masked figures, blasting holes into walls and taking down lights. chaos was the only thing anyone could see but when they ran for the doors, they were locked and guarded by villains more than ready to fight them. when they tried to apparate out, they could not. the same protective wards that now were part of many houses due to the war, and that kept hogwarts safe, were cast onto the building, efficiently trapping everyone in but for the perpetrators ( with enough tricks up their sleeves to come and go as they pleased ). the order could not have guessed the dark lord had that many followers, not until that very moment when every single floor was under the control of the terrifying figures.

there were three muggle patients at st. mungo’s that day, victims of magical injuries and therefore with no other place to go. it was easy to spot them, all with ‘muggle’ written on their charts to avoid any confusion - they were murdered instantaneously and thrown out of the window, warm and mangled on the grass where many had been eating their lunch in the sun just before. help was quick to the scene, setting up tents there, hit wizards ready to storm in as soon as they could, curse breakers working on the defenses, the aurors establishing fickle contact with the inside, hoping to negotiate the release of the hostages. they suspect more dead are inside.

the hostages live in a scene of horror. some are ignored by the attackers, the faces behind the masks recognising their allies. muggleborns and bloodtraitors, however, are the perfect victims for the spectacle, especially given how defenseless everyone was, most with their wands taken away from them. the death eaters’ plan is not to kill everyone there, but just enough to shock and remind the world of their power. the audience is massive, from those at home clutching their radios to the massive crowd almost interfering with the law enforcement’s work in the st. mungo’s garden, waiting for news of their loved ones. the situation is dire.

hey friends !! as you can probably tell, this event is meant to be very violent, even if only emotionally, for everyone involved so please be mindful of trigger warnings in your threads. we picked who’s stuck inside the hospital ourselves, but promise it was all randomised !! please don’t forget that it would be extremely hard, if not impossible, for any hostages to suddenly leave or spectators to walk in, so don’t godmod this. we will post a few plot drops throughout the event to give everyone new material to work with, and the event will last ONE WEEK AND A HALF ( until may 23rd ) with only event related threads. after that, until the end of that week everyone will be able to both finish their event threads if they so wish, or get new ones ! but we’ll keep you updated on that through the plot drops ! hope you have the MOST fun with this, and stay tuned for the developments !

all DEATH EATERS are in this attack but, just so they don’t raise any suspicions and so everyone has a lot to do, we find it likely that they take turns for everyone to be able to leave, establish that they are NOT inside wrecking havoc and then return.
