Surrealism and ecstasy (1933)
Tumblr media
Le phénomène de l'extase, photomontage de Dalí, Brassaï, Breton et Éluard (1933); publié dans Minotaure, n° 3-4, décembre 1933 The Phenomenon of Ecstasy, is a photomontage built in a spiral: it is made up of 32 photos organized in a labyrinth of photos which wind up, drawing the eye in a hypnotic way towards the central photo, a portrait of a woman by Brassaï. This photo was part of a series of…

It's a Tumblr friendly Hedy Lamarr in a production still from Gustav Machatý’s infamous 1932 film "Extase" (Ecstasy).
Here's a few more production stills from Extase, but these stills won't stay still...

Le Huitième Péché
C'est l'extase finale
annoncée d'un grand cri,
Pâmoison terminale
de la sainte ravie
Exhalant dans un râle
l'essence de sa vie.
Quelle émotion divine, mystique volupté,
Fait de la Capucine, secrète libertine,
Par son habileté l'amante foudroyée
de la Lubricité ?

I'm waiting for love...
I only wait for love to give up myself in his hands.
That's why it's so late, that's why I was guilty of such omissions.
They come with their laws and codes to attach me; but I always escape them, because I only wait for love to give up myself in his hands.
The others blame me and call me negligent;
I have no doubt that they are right in their blame.
The day of the market has passed and all the business work is over; those who claimed me in vain
Turned around in anger.
I'm just waiting for love
To finally give up on me
Myself in his hands.
A poem of "the lyrical offering"
The Gitanjali, by Rabindranath Tagore
Gitaniali received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1933
