So here we are~ Honestly I never expected to be here, I have been having the time of my life the past few months on this blog, and it’s been one of the most amazing RP experiences of my life! This has been one of the friendliest, most welcoming fandoms I’ve ever been in and I cherish every moment of my time here! I really can’t thank you all enough, I’ve loved sharing my Professor and all of my ideas with you guys and I’m so glad you all love what I have. You all have given me all the time I could possibly want to spend time with him. You all have even turned Squid-mun into somewhat of a character and I cannot express how much that touches my heart, so without further a-do let’s get to the thank you’s!

The Champions: You guys have become such special to me, and have made some of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had on this blog. Most of you I never even imagined I’d become any sort of close to as you all are just stellar and incredible! You all have had a hand in shaping this blog just as much as I have and Kukui would not be where we are without you!

@interdreamed: Gosh Kels what can I say about you that I haven’t said already? I was beginning to believe I’d never find a Burnet to interact with before you came along! Your Burnet is just beyond perfect and you know that Kukui and I love her to bits! You have also become such a wonderful friend to me and I always enjoyed our seemingly endless conversations. We’ve put so much time and development into out muses and I truly couldn’t be happier with how they’ve grown together. I’ve always had millions of ideas in my head as to the sort of world they embody, and you practically encompassed all of the same things with your Burnet that I had with my Kukui and they just couldn’t be more perfect to me. I adore the crazy amounts of AU’s that we have, even if we don’t get to RP them all I still love discussing them all the time alongside our tons and tons of headcanons. I don’t know when you’ll end up reading this as I know you’re still very busy, but know that Kukui and I miss you very much, and I probably wouldn’t have gotten this far without you!

@craniumaniac: Alright Kaycie let me be straight, I looked up to you so much when I started this blog. Your portrayal was flawless, you interactions with Cookie always felt so natural and fluid, and you had a really admirable confidence in your portrayal that I wish I had! Then when you and Cookie reached out to me I was literally speechless because never in a million years did I think you’d even notice me as lame as that sounds! I was really hesitant about interacting with Guzmas at first, what with the fandom being obsessed with the Kukui/Guzma ship, so meeting you and discovering you shared my opinions regarding that ship was truly a godsend! And getting to know you off of Tumblr has been an absolute joy, you’ve allowed me to confide in you and have even trusted me enough to confide in me which means more than I could ever say!

@plumeriaxskull: Cookie I don’t know how our muses developed the sort of relationship that they have but I have to say that I love it! You were one of the first RP’ers I began talking to ooc and getting to know you has been amazing! You’re so funny and you kept me laughing during the long, LONG, car rides while I was traveling across the country not long after I started this blog. Your Plumeria is amazing, the time, thought, and care you put into your development is so apparent in just about everything you do. You were another blog I very much admired when first starting out, and I’m so honored to be able to call you a friend.

@twoskullbois: ELLIOT WTF! You were one of the first people I ever interacted with I believe! You’re such a gem and I still remember when you sent me that god damn video and from there we just spiraled out of control. You’ve been so kind and have made me laugh relentlessly numerous times that I just don’t know what I’d do without you.

@agentcatman: Even though we have never interacted I have absolutely loved talking to you, Shiro! You’re an absolute joy and you even drew my waifu for me and I literally have it saved to my phone don’t think I’m joking! You’re portrayal of Nanu is top notch, and I love how passionate you are about him with all your headcanons! I’m real glad I was introduced to you and look forward to interacting in the future!

@firespun: Even though you aren’t as active right now, I have really loved interacting with you in the past! The AU you created and shared with me is just so amazingly sad and wonderful at the same time, and I’ve really loved that relationship we’ve made between Kukui and Kiawe. You’re such a sweetie even though you make me cry with feels!

@denkinokikai: Haribo! You know I love your Sophocles, both the Professor and I do! I was really excited to interact with you as I have always had lots of headcanons about Kukui’s relationship with both Molayne and Soffy and getting to explore them with you has been amazing! Your Ho-Oh is also wonderful and I know I’m not as active on Lugia as I’d like to be but I still love interacting with the two of them as well!

@mocrosoft: Where would Kukui be without his best friend? Even though we haven’t had too many interactions on the dash, I absolutely love chatting with you! Both talking about our boys, forming headcanons and discussing AU’s is always such a highlight of my day! I can’t wait to do things with our Breath of the Wild AU because I have SO MANY feelings for that AU I could cry!

@lillie-in-alola: Kai, talking with you always manages to brighten up my day! Whether it be us yelling about Kukui and Burnet or whatever else, I always look forward to out conversations. You really are an amazing person and I can’t wait to get started with this new blog of yours!

@ofpalletown: SON. I just love your Ash, and I just love you tbh. I love chatting with you about all of Ash and Kukui’s interactions in the anime and I love interacting with you! The character dymanic we have going is just so perfect to me as I just really love the relationship between Ash and Kukui, and exploring it with you has just been everything I could have hoped for!

The Trainers: I wish I could write something special for all of you but we’d be here forever. Holy. Shit.

Okay, so how badass where Lance and Hunk episode one? Freaken Hunk and his tailgating line?! And how about Lance doing the drop ship for the Blade? Oh yeah, no problem. Just drop them while flying at a high rate of speed, they'll just go full on ninja and Naruto that shit. Arms back for speed and everything!! And then you never saw them again. RIP BoM. And Keith?! Smol, angry child. Hi, my name is "Pissed Off", and I'm a Paladin of Voltron. He's so upset about losing Shiro again, so hung up on that single point. He bounces between extremes; it's no wonder no one is quite sure how to handle him, aside from Shiro. But his extremes are linked in the sense that he focuses on that one task, but it's the one task that would have the greatest impact. Aka taking out Lotor to end the galra threat, taking out Zarkon to end the galra threat. He only sees the forest, and plows through trees. But there were times that his stubborn nature just made me want to smack him. Keith, babe, I love you, I always will, but please, breathe. And as for the lions? NAILED IT!! I freaken called that shit. Though the "please, no" was just as painful as I thought it would be. However, I love that the bayards don't match. I love that the bayards still react to the person regardless. I love that Allura wears pink and it's not just cuz she's a girl. And I love her weapon. Whip that shit!! And I love Lotor!!! The sneaky, coniving, son of a bitch *coughcoughHaggarcoughcough*. He's calculating, he's smart, he's perceptive, and he's level headed. He's calm and collected where Keith is rage and fury. And did you see his ship?!?! Did you see how incrediy graceful and quick and the way it maneuvered? I love how the wings/arms move independently!! The simple design, and yet it almost seems to swim through space. It's beautiful, graceful, elegant, efficient. It screams Lotor. It's really hard to say "I totally called that" when no one ever saw it. Anyway, I figured Lotor would try to use Altean technology. Clearly with his attempt to collect part of the teladov, the scultrite from the weblum, it just makes sense. If they kept anything about him, it would be that he's a half breed, the result of the two warring factions, ie Galra and Altean. It makes sense that he would take the best of both worlds and twist them to his advantage. As for what he'll do with it, it's hard to say. I'll think on that later. *sets rant aside* AND HOW ABOUT SVEN?!?!?!?! OMG I never in a million years would have seen that coming. HE WAS PERFECT!! He had the horrendous accent, the stupid, goofy questions. They wounded him in the same place!!! THEY GAVE HIM IS LINE "GET ME TO A HOSPITAL QUICK". I DDDDDIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEDDDD!!! Holy shit, it was amazing. A+ throwback. I can't handle that episode. So, Shiro with long hair. Shiro. With long hair. And stubble. I felt a ripple wash through the fandom, as though a million ovaries cried out at once, and were silenced. Can he just rest? Can we please, just let this poor man rest? Give him a moment to catch his breath, let him sleep, just let him relax for just a second. The poor guy just "got over" his first bout with the galra, only to be captured again, escape to a barren, frozen wasteland, cauterize his leg, get captured again, get back on a galra ship, chase after Voltron and get left behind, float through space for seven freaken days (which I call bullshit on because you can't survive that long without water, guys please), only to be picked up and they be like, oh hey, welcome back. No, actually, I'm angry about this. Let's take a moment to address this problem. In the brief moment I glanced at my feed, I saw the new wildfire theory about the possibility of a fake Shiro, and I'm inclined to believe it, based on a couple factors. I won't get into then now; it deserves it's own post. But most likely, if this turns out to be true, then he'll be controlled by Haggar, which will then be taken over by Lotor because of course he'll catch wind of it, and he'll btray the team and Keith will save him, and they'll kiss... or not, whatever. *collects rant, sets aside* But can we just talk about how Shiro's traumatic experiences have been glossed over? He has got go be dying inside. This needs to be addressed. This also deserves it's own post. *sets another rant aside, breaks up fight between other couple rants* Elsewhere, in another part of the fandom, fireworks are going off because another theory was proven correct. Who knew Zarkon and Haggar are totally married?!?!? Who knew they are the real Space Mom and Dad?!?! ZARKON DID IT FOR LOVE!!! HE DESTORYED HIS ENTIRE WORLD TO SAVE HER!!!!!!! I love that she had a cat. And that Zarkon was afraid of the cat. The throwbacks this season were on point. But one thing that concerns me are the parallels. There has been a lot of heavy emphasis placed on parallels, and the direction they're pointing is not a good one. More on this later. *sets yet another rant aside* I'm going to rewatch this tomorrow. I'm probably going to post after each episode, so brace yourselves. There's just so much that was packed into this super short season. And we only have a couple months to digest it; season 4 drops October 13th. I'm gonna post my theories. I can't help it; I love to theorize and speculate, and I love seeing other people's interpretations. So if you've made it this far, hi!! Here's a random bit about myself: I hate the sound of ambient noise in tv shows. I especially hate the sound of water, all those times someone wrings out a rag and the water drips back in the bowl. It's like nails on a chalkboard. It makes me want to stab something.

Your fave and your latest fave /o/

Let’s start with my fav. And since I’m a horrible narcisist, I’ll use a character of mine, my Yuki !

What I like about them : honestly and very modestly, Yuki is adorable. She’s tiny, she’s cute, with huge eyes and tiny feet, and she’s a ballerina to boot ! No really, she’s an adorable little thing, all cuddly and affectionnate once you get her to trust you (but it’s very, very hard). But under that, she’s tough as nails when the need comes, and she will kick your ass. And when rightly poked and prodded, she says the funniest things.

What I dislike about them : do I dislike something about her ? Maybe, but that’s about me. Even when I planned for her to have the worst backstory ever, sometimes I tend to do it too much, and she turns into a poor little wittle woobie without any redeaming quality.

Favourite moment : probably that part where she demonstrates for the first time to anyone that she’s not just an itty-bitty ballerina and a meek, tiny thing, but a competent dancer, serious and hardworking, and an athlete who can kick someone across the room without any effort (and she’s way more flexible than people give her credit for). It makes some people feel all weird and bothered~

Least favourite moment : when I had her get her Achille’s tendons cut by her asshole of a sister. Poor Yuki didn’t deserve that at all…

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more : I’m the one exploring it so really, I’m not leaving one stone unturned ! But I’m quite curious about a lot of things about her, including her youth, before she was ostracized by her family.

An interesting AU for this character : okay we’ve seen so many AU for her, but let’s start with the latest latest one ! That post-apocalyptic word with Rie and Rei as the librarians. Yuki probably has to fend off for herself, and it’s very hard for a tiny Yuki to survive in a world without laws or anything. The library is her haven, where no one can hurt her because those two librarians are terrifying and assisted by strong persons who kick a lot of asses. She spends lots of time there, more and more, until she just… doesn’t live. Rie and Rei let her stay around because she goes to great lengths to help them and make herself as useful and irreplacable as she can, taking care of the books and cooking for everyone. It’s very nice, because she’s not in danger anymore, and they even like her !

A crossover : with Fantastic Beasts. Imagine Yuki (and all the Puppy Pack) meeting Newt and his puppy pack in New Orleans, probably hunting whatever creature is around. Shinji is elated because new people, Newt just wonders who are all those weirdos, Shizuka wants to see all the creatures, Credence gets lots of hot chocolate, Menthe wants the kittens, Tina wants them to calm down a little, Rose feeds everybody, Jacob feeds everybody, Queenie feeds everybody, Kisuke wants all the beasts, and Yuki communicates with Credence by meeps and awkward glances. Everybody is happy, has fun, drinks alcohol and tea and coffee and chocolate, and everything is perfect. And the Niffler steals all the spoons.

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship) : AGA so many ! It’s hard to choose ! Let’s start with the last one and go from there : Yuki and Misha are totally adorable in the tol / smol, strong / delicate, protective / caring department. They are simply adorable and need to be protected and shipped and cuddled and everything.

Other ships? I didn’t cite Tomoyo-dono just because I love those two idiots so much. They are dorky and in love and protective of each other and lovely and represent the 11th division which makes every captain go “o.o” and Yuki’s family go “è.é”. And they are so good to each other. Then Kenpachi and Bahorel (and Shishido) (and Hiyori) (and probably others) who reproduce my favourite trope of the grumpy, strong, punching, aggressive character falling for the tiny, fragile person (who’s totally head over heels for them) and getting such a “PROTECTIVE” vibe that they would eat anyone alive to help the tiny person. And then there’s Shinji. Who’s neither grumpy nor fight-crazy, and a total troll, but who gets the same “PROTECT THE TINY PERSON” urge. And then drive them crazy.

BROTP : with Shizuka and Menthe. Yuki would be totally lost without those two idiots helping and supporting her in any stupid idea or street fight ever. And then they go out for tea / chocolate / whatever.NOTP : any violent character. Tiny Yuki doesn’t need violence in her life, just hugs and cuddles.

An assortment of headcanons! - according to Yuki, Misha is the best thing to exist since green tea. And even then, it’s a draw. Misha is everything she ever dreamt when she was little and wanted to be a Disney Princess : he’s tall, handsome, strong, protective, gallant, gentle, supportive, and very cuddly. Perfect, except that he doesn’t sing random love songs, but maybe that would be a bad idea. Beside that, perfect.- her favourite hot drink is a perfectly made matcha seijo no shiro. Since it’s super expensive, she rarely indulges into it, and when she does, she does her best to enjoy every sip !- she has a black light snowflake tattooed on her left wrist, so her parents can identify her body should something happen to her. She doesn’t like it very much, but she doesn’t pay it much attention.- she would never sell you for a corn chip.- she loves to dress Tomoyo-dono up and turn her into a pretty, pretty princess. And then go and run around in princess-y clothes and do very unladylike things like eating with their fingers and climb things you’re not supposed to climb.- she likes Dr Who a lot. She hasn’t seen many episodes, but it’s a favourite of her. She wants to knit herself some fandom stuff, but yarn is expensive, so she puts a ball or two aside when she can.- she doesn’t really have a comfort food, because she doesn’t eat much, and sometimes, it’s a fight just to get something down. Anxiety and depression are bitches walking hand in hand.- when she’s on her own, Yuki sleeps all curled up like a little ball. Now that she has a huge shark boyfriend to sleep with, she just lays half on him like a big sharky pillow.

Space Ace Stickers! (+ other stickers!)

• Yeah, these are stickers and not buttons. YET! The (short) post explaining why is ---> here

• Once I have another $265 to buy a button maker for 1" buttons, I promise, they'll be buttons~! In fact, once they're buttons, they probably won't be available as stickers anymore. I just decided to make the Space Ace into stickers because they got so popular, and the rest as fill-ins until I design more, better, stickers • Most of these are Space Ace buttons, but the other buttons (Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Wander over Yonder, and Black Butler) available can be seen ---> here and here

• I'm gonna be honest, the edges on this first batch (excluding the Black Butler stickers) are horrible, and I'm so sorry about that 🙃 I need to do some very simple and quick edits to the PS file before I print out any more, but this is my first time making stickers, so forgive the Learning-By-Trial-And-Error stage just starting out. As I space them better, and save up to buy a circle Matt cutter, the quality will improve~!

• They will probably be available through most, if not all, of the summer months, and the remaining spring months, as that'll be the time I finish up my animation class, and make more things to sell over summer break~

• S+H will be added to the price after they're sent, because I'm still learning how the heck you figure out adding that stuff into the charge before sending them, but unless you live outside the US, that should be under $10 (also if anyone that does this all the time wants to teach me how to figure that out, you’d be such a blessing, cause I’m horrible at math, and don’t even know what to look for/where to start looking for it to learn :’ ) )

• I do plan to make more stickers/buttons for the LGBT+ community like the Ace ones I made (even if they don't match the theme), but I have to be very careful, as I'm closeted to the family I live with currently, and still a little ways away from moving out (tho hopefully getting closer to doing that~), so it may be quite a while before I make more, sorry about that :' ) If you're not a big fan of the original art I do/fan art I draw for (Yurio on Ice, Wander Over Yonder, Steven Universe, Star vs, Black Butler, Hamilton, Heathers, Revolutionary Girl Utena, etc.), but you want me to tag you whenever I do, at last, make more of those, leave me a CHAT message and I'll be more than happy to~!

Voltron Atlantis AU Headcanons

I sort of made my own Headcanons for the AU, and I'm incorporating them into the fic I'm writing :) @show-your-fandom-side @futureblackpaladin let me know if you disagree with any of these and we can talk about it if you'd like, since it's your AU after all :) 1. Shiro uses morbid dark humor during the whole trip. Example, during the Leviathan attack, he calmly says this to a panicking Pidge. "Well, looks like we're all dead in the water now!" ("SHIRO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP JOKING AND START HELPING ME STOP THESE LEAKS-") When he uses it around Allura, she doesn't get it and gets extremely concerned for him. 2. Ponytail Keith is the stuff of wet dreams for Lance. Especially when Keith is working on rebuilding the city and is all sweaty. 3. Lance is very vain and proud about his legs. Keith approves. Lance likes to use this fact to make Keith blush, much to Shiro's amusement. 4. Pidge has info on EVERYONE. No secret is safe around her. She can be very manipulative if she wants to. She's smol but could probably topple the Government if she felt like it. 5. Hunk is a pretty good cook, for a demolitions expert. He also has a habit of muttering under his breath about calculations when using explosives. It's all gibberish to everyone but Pidge. 6. Shiro's prosthetic gets destroyed (im not saying how bc that is a spoiler and it's gonna be dramatic) and Pidge, Hunk and Rax (an Altean engineer, one of their best bc I couldn't think of anyone else) build him a new arm with the Shiro's crystal as the power source, which works by the energy flowing through his bloodstream into the arm, automatically connecting the nerves and ta-da he has a new, blue and white badass robot arm that works just like his flesh one. Shiro cries after he realizes it feels like his old arm. 7. Shay is a blind Altean, but she and Hunk like each other quite a lot because he doesn't treat her like she's helpless like some people (glances over to Rax) do. 8. Pidge, Hunk and Coran visit Altea sometimes to catch up with how the restoration is going. Pidge eventually brings her brother to see Shiro because she felt guilty making him think his best friend was dead. Matt becomes good friends with Allura and Rax, and occasionally helps out with the architectural engineering. 9. The Lions can turn into small normal cats using the energy of the crystals. They stick extremely close to their chosen Paladin and refuse to leave. So, whenever Pidge and Hunk leave for the surface, Green and Yellow go with them. Allura is resigned to this fact, but the Lions can still communicate in their cat forms. 10. For some reason, the town children adore Coran. Lance thinks it might be the mustache. 11. I need to do a little more research before I confirm whether to use this Headcanon, but I might have Shiro have PTSD, Keith have Aspergers and ADHD, Hunk have an anxiety disorder, and Pidge be autistic. I'm trying to figure the limits on what I can do with this, so let me know if it is or isn't okay. I'm not sure about Pidge, as I don't know a lot about autism but I'm willing to research and learn more so I can portray it accurately. If I think it won't work, Pidge will just be Pidge. Let me know your thoughts on this!!!

Fic recs? Fic recs!

For Fandom Fic Rec Days because this is a fantastic idea. These ones will be for Voltron, but if people want fic recs for other fandoms I’ve clawed through extensively (Batman, FMA, Young Justice, One Piece) I can do those too. (Also, sorry to any writers who aren’t tumblr-tagged. I am terrible with names and probably don’t know you’re here. But I’ve still linked to your fic profiles in this case!) AUTHOR SHOUT-OUTS: a.k.a. “you should read everything they do it’s all quality okay” @maychorian Okay look, if you are in any way excited that I’m in this fandom, you owe maychorian a big ‘thank you’ since she was unwittingly the reason I decided to stick around after watching S1. Boom Crash The Sound Of My Ship was one of the first fics I found after wandering into the fandom and holds a special place in my heart to this day. I have fond memories of eating up the whole series by staying up late or sneaking chapters at work on my breaks. I once hid in my car during my lunch break to read a chapter right after it released? Recs all around, just read all her stuff. @bosstoaster You’ve probably read BT’s stuff already because who hasn’t but I don’t care I’m reccing her stuff anyway. BT writes everything. Like, everything. With a Shiro focus primarily, but she’s got a great handle on the other characters and will tackle such an insanely crazy variety of prompts I am continually stunned by whatever is produced next. Known for making you suffer but will make you laugh or feelz too. Special shout out to Spark to Ignite which is probably my favorite. Is this cheating because it was an exchange fic for me? Hell no. This was my One Thing that I desperately wanted to see in the fandom and it was not anywhere. BT did a fantastic job making it come to life and making me suffer but I asked for it so it’s okay and I reread this one all the time.

@butteredonions Where do I even START? So much good fic, guys. Onions fills my cravings for all things AU and she has such an insanely wide variety. If you like AU’s there is something there for everyone and they are always so well thought out and still fit each character so well. Also (in)famous for smol!Shiro, and I’m not actually partial to a lot of deaged!chars fics because people have a bad tendency to write toddlers and young children so innacurately, but this one is gold and so it’s great. But my personal fic shoutout is gonna go to The Throne In The Hall which is just all around amazing. Gorgeous imagery, great setting, solid plot, beautiful characterization, and badass fight scenes, this whole thing is just a delightful treat from start to finish. @ashinan Has some great works all around and you should read it! I can’t speak for Ash’s ship fics because I’m not really into ships, but people swear by both Ghost of a King and Bombs and Bullets, so I assume they are top quality for ship stuff. Me? I’m gonna rec you all Something Strange which is the most best, shut up, I will fight you on this. Amazing piece that is the modern supernatural cryptids-and-ghosts AU I didn’t know I need until I read this. Amazing characterization and so many little details that I just love picking out of the narrative and basking in. This fic is both hilariously entertaining because of the group shenanigans and frightfully haunting because of the ghosts (pun sort of intended?) Ash has also hinted at maybe doing more for the series and I’m clawing at the walls waiting for it. Read now. Do it. @mumblefox Rounding out the Think Tank, mumble’s work is worth checking out too! Like ash, a lot of mumble’s stuff is tagged for ships, which I don’t really do, but I absolutely adore Reconnaissance which is all I need to tell me mumble’s got top quality word weaving skills. Mumble does character dynamics wonderfully and I love watching Pidge and Keith work together in this, playing off each other both in the safe Castle environment and the heat of battle. There’s gorgeous imagery all throughout this fic and tons of little details buried in the narrative that just add so much character to the story itself. Also, I am a sucker for building any kind of alien culture or worldbuilding in general, and it’s here in spades. GriffinRose: I don’t see this fic writer recced a lot? It’s a crying shame, they’re good at what they do. Lots of Keith-centric stuff but not necessarily in a shippy way (which is usually what I see for Keith-centric stuff), but they also tackle some other characters too! My favorite is actually Mama Holt because we see a lot of Matt and Sam hanging around the Castle with the paladins in fics but Pidge’s mom? Not so much. This is a sweet little piece that hits all my found family feels, in which Mama Holt ends up on the Castle of Lions and slowly ends up adopting absolutely everyone in it, and I love every word in it. Yes. Check out Griffin’s stuff, you won’t regret it. INDIVIDUAL FIC RECS: a.ka. the “holy shit I found this amazing story I love and you should read it” section You Can’t Take the Sky From Me by isabeau225 Voltron fan? Firefly fan? This fic is the fic for you! Now a series and too damn adorable. Shiro’s not expecting any kids but somehow he just keeps getting more, and somehow he’s okay with that. Again, one of those fics that does child characters well. After I read this I squeed for half an hour and melted onto the floor.

Accepting Amelioration by XILVerify Daemon fics are my other weakness...when handled well. The problem I see with a lot of daemon fics is that writers will include the daemons but they are there more as a prop then as another character. This fic does a GORGEOUS job of avoiding that pitfall and a BEAUTIFUL job of writing the daemon concept in space with these characters and I fell in love with it. Also has some very interesting interpretations of daemons that differ a bit from the novel, but in ways I really enjoy...like breaking some of the standards for what animals mean what personalities, or making touching another’s daemon less of a sexual interaction and more of a close trust or strong platonic bond kind of thing. Beautiful work. Check it out.

One for All, All for One by KaijuDork Absolutely gorgeous Shiro-centric (but also team based) fic. Hurt comfort in spades as Shiro tries to help the paladins and they try to help him at the same time. Some beautiful and haunting imagery in this one. Still a WIP, but I’m hoping the writer can finish one day. I believe in you :) Of a Sort by hameru For the sickfic fan. Shiro is really, really sick, and the others do their best to help him out. Also a WIP but the first two chapters are just...quality sickfic and will fill all your hurt/comfort needs by themselves. (Still will be excited when/if more posts though) Empty Spaces by Oreramar Kind of a modern AU without the space stuff. Shiro loses his arm in an accident and things start to go downhill from there, until he unexpectedly finds the perfect new career...in daycare. Again, one of those rare fics that handles kids well (although they’re kind of there peripherally in this one), and the modern AU aspect is handled really skillfully too. Makes you feel all happy inside when you’re done reading it. The kind of fic I would love to see more extension on, although I’m content with this too. Shadows of our Dreams by KUG Because sometimes you just need a cuddle pile. This one fills the niche for both cute and fluffy as well as angsty and hurt comfort. If you need all kinds of feels all in one place this is your one-stop shop. Lean on Me by GlassSoldiers Wouldn’t be a good fic rec without a good 5 times! This is one of my faves. Shiro looking out for all his team, and his team looking out for him. I’m a big fan of this theme, obviously, so this one really hits the spot. Everyone gets a chance to shine, which is great :) how to win friends, influence people, and form voltron by brosura A WIP but a very worth it WIP, holy crap, read this. An AU in which Keith doesn’t get booted from the Garrison, and ends up slowly integrating with the rest of the Original Trio. Primarily Hunk’s PoV too which is awesome. Double awesome, it literally just updated as I was writing this list, which means there’s a new chapter, which means I need to find time to read it. AAAAAH. These are amongst my favorites. Good job to everyone on the list, and thanks for making my nights and work breaks exciting, for making me stay up late to finish just ONE MORE CHAPTER, for giving me something to read while eating, for giving me something to motivate me to get my own work done, and for giving me things to look forward to after terrible days. Love you all and this fandom has been amazing to me so far. :) ~VelkynKarma

Mmkay, so I’m what I’m doing here is going through my fic rec tag and just copy-pasting stories where Lance suffers. Some are angst, some are hurt/comfort, some are epic stories where the angst and hurt/comfort might be more of a side dish than a main course. The word count on most of the WIPs is no longer accurate, and some are complete, but I am too lazy to edit. This is taking long enough as it is. But yeah, you asked for it, you’re getting it. Trembling Lips by nonna Words: 14,001 (WIP, but only one chapter to go)Author’s Summary: Lance is an emotional person who cries easily (and does the trembly-lip thing a lot) but tries to stay strong in front of the team.ORFive times Lance stopped himself from crying in front of his teammates, and the one time he couldn’t hold it back.My Comments: The BEST gen Lance-angst I have found yet. It is so good. The fourth chapter almost made me cry and I think I read it five times. I just…kept going back. I am DYING for the last chapter, omg, join me in waiting for it. Lance’s characterization is great, and Shiro is trying so hard, and everyone’s making mistakes but they don’t mean to. It’s absolutely marvelous and you should read it.

Collateral baggage by Zan_scrawlingWords: 718 Author’s Summary: Lance can’t sleep; Coran is up and able to listen. My Comments: TOO SHORT but very sweet little character study. I’m such a sucker for Coran being serious and comforting for all these tiny, tiny smol children who have ended up in his castle, for real. I read this fic early on in my fandom experience with Voltron, too, so it, uh, might have influenced me.

I’m not the Lance You think I am by KairaKara101Words: 36,200 (WIP)Author’s Summary: Lance isn’t human. Not that the team would know, he likes to keep that little fact a secret because he’s not sure if they’d treat him the same. That they’d be as welcoming as his family is. How in the world did he go from fighting in space to living on Earth acting like a class clown to fighting in space again?My Comments: I haven’t finished reading even what’s available yet but I’m reccing it anyway because it’s FANTASTIC. Lance as an alien crash-landing on Earth and immediately being adopted by an enormous, loving Hispanic family is absolute joy, and I’m just getting into the chapters where he joins Garrison and meets Hunk and the others. It’s just…really fun, and Lance is adorable and SO sweet with his new family and siblings. I love it, great stuff, I wish it was 200k words and I am honestly glad that it’s a WIP because I want more and I want to watch it grow up healthy and strong.

Burning by Tiger1Words: 11,457 (WIP)Author’s Summary: The aftermath of their escape from Zarkon led to serious consequences for each member of the team, but at least they were all still alive - still together. Lance, however….well, let’s just say Lance didn’t get by totally unscathed. My Comments: As soon as the notification for my subscription on this lands in my email, I drop everything to read it. It’s a little more simple of a story, maybe, but it has everything I like. I would also like this one to be much, much longer, and also finished so I can read it at once.

Hunk and Lance’s Excellent Adventures by kiaella_vWords: 4,883 (WIP)Author’s Summary: Hunk and Lance being buddies.Chapter 5: Breathe.Or; Hunk and Lance Best Friendy Fluff..now feature Angst.My Comments: The CUTEST Hunk and Lance on AO3, golly, I love them so much. The first three chapters were just pure fluffy sunshine, then the author brought in the pain, and I am breathless for more. (Apparently going to be Klance eventually, but the focus is Hunk and Lance friendship.)

my head is dizzy now by asexualreyWords: 3,871Author’s Summary: Allura had better get there soon. He doesn’t want to be responsible for Lance dying just because he’s completely useless. My Comments: Lance gets suddenly sick on a planet and Keith has to take care of him and Keith is AWKWARD and he is SCARED and it’s really NICE. Klance but can be read as gen.

My Youth Is Yours by MilkTeaMikuWords: 29,840 Author’s Summary: An unforseen blast in the middle of a battle de-ages Lance into a child for a week. Keith does not understand babies.My Comments: I am a HUGE sucker for deaged fics, and oh look, it’s Lance! What an adorable wee child! But also there is angst and heartache and pain and the Galra, and Keith is confused, but also drawn, and everyone is sweet and helpful, and Hunk and Shiro will be amazing parents someday if they live past this war, I swear. But yeah, well-written, super cute, baby Lance. Klance endgame, but mostly it’s about how cute tiny Lance is.

Tight Spaces by Emerald_AshesWords: 2,716 Author’s Summary: Set after “Crystal Venom”, the castle is slowly being brought back into working order after the corruption in the ship’s systems. Coran has a training exercise planned to serve as a test that is supposed to be simple, and easy. But with Lance things are never easy, although this time it’s really not his fault. My Comments: Mmm, yeah, Lance having a panic attack. This is really well-written and heart-wrenching, and everyone is very supportive in the end. I may have read this more than once. Or twice.

Waiting Room by GemmaRoseWords: 3,033 Author’s Summary: When a fight ends badly, Hunk is hurt and needs more medical attention than a cryo-pod can provide. Luckily for the paladins, they’re close to home. My Comments: Really lovely future fic in which the paladins have been fighting together for over a year. Told from Lance’s POV as he fights to get Hunk medical attention, then has to wait for news with the others. The author does a great job of making everyone feel a little older, and a little harder, and a whole lot closer. I want a lot more. This could go 20k+, easy.

Just Static by Jessadilla (wobblyarms)Words: 73,144 (WIP, one chapter to go)Author’s Summary: –Static—–iro, Hunk, Kei—, nybody? I’m—–static—-I’m sorry guys. This is all my—-static–cc—–I found my coordinates. They’re—stttcc–guys. I hear something—–scccc–end transmission- Alone on a hostile planet, transmissions aren’t getting through. How did it come to this?My Comments: Another really good Lance-focused hurt/comfort fic. Everyone is well-written and characterized, though Keith and Lance get most of the screentime. Starts with the self-doubt and ends with Lance stranded on a planet with a very cool and interesting new enemy to deal with while everyone fights to save him. Epic H/C, and Klance.

Seeing Red by SagitarrowWords: 4,360 Author’s Summary: There’s a constant throbbing in his spine, like someone royally pissed at him is taking a hammer to it. It radiates through his whole body, every inch is pulsating and Lance can’t even remember what it was like to be pain free. Or: Lance falls down a hole. The rest of the team freaks out.My Comments: What it says on the box! Lance is hurt and the others rescue him. The descriptions are really sharp and visceral, and Lance’s self-doubt rears its ugly head again, but for the most part it’s a fairly simple hurt/comfort fic. And I LOVE that. Klance if you squint.

Counterclock by riverbanksWords: 3,273 Author’s Summary: Post Crystal Venom -Later, there’s a shift, and Hunk notices long before Lance is aware of himself. My Comments: Can be read as Hance or gen. So as you may have noticed, I’m a huge sucker for Lance with PTSD. This is a really lovely exploration of it based on canon, with a tremendously loving and wise Hunk. And the lions, too! Both Blue and Yellow are very important in this fic. Beautiful and touching.

ghost of a king by ashinan Words: 16,878 (WIP, but only one chapter to go)Author’s Summary: During a routine recon mission turned ambush, Lance and Blue must take drastic measures to ensure their survival. The aftermath leaves Lance lost and dreaming, and the team helpless to the possibility that, without a guide, he won’t make it back. My Comments: Klance, but everyone is equally important. This is one of the most gorgeous fics I’ve ever read, bar none, let alone in this fandom. The space battle in the first chapter is absolutely thrilling, as well as visceral and terrifying. The descriptions of the abstract space Lance falls into are stunningly beautiful, and the team’s desperate struggle to get him back is heart-wrenching. And Blue! Blue is AMAZING in this fic! She and Lance have conversations and go back and forth on who is in control at any one moment, a complete partnership much more developed than anything we saw in the show. It’s beautiful and I love it to death. Can’t wait for the conclusion.

Aid by HaurvatatWords: 8,362 (WIP)Author’s Summary: Frankly, the only person on Team Voltron with their shit relatively together is Hunk. Lance tries so hard, but… he can’t help but feel there’s a reason he never gets too far with that one, and maybe not 100% of it is Keith’s fault. All it takes is one battle, one accident, one mistake, and one secret to make it all rise to the surface. My Comments: Really, really good and interesting take on Lance in this one, different than I’ve seen anywhere else, but still perfectly in-character. It feels entirely realistic, and all of the characters are themselves, including sometimes being jerks to each other. But my favorite aspect of this fic is the relationship between Lance and his lion. The blue lion is so SASSY in this story. And she and Lance are incredibly close and good friends. I love it and can’t wait to see where it goes.

In this moment, he almost wishes he was.My Comments: I am so BLESSED to be in a fandom that loves writing hurt/comfort featuring my favorite character, like for real. Yeah, Lance is horribly, horribly sick, and he wants his mom, and he tries to hide his weakness from the others. It does not go well. This one made me feel a lot. I’ve read it several times. Klance.

Would he?My Comments: This is a great action/adventure type fic where the whole team is searching for a missing Lance. The peril is really intriguing, and the world-building is cool and interesting. The emotions are also very sharp and well-characterized. I’m very excited for every single update. I really want to know what happened, and I want them to find Lance, and I want him to be safe and okay.

Necessary by always_a_slut_for_hcWords: 22,026 Author’s Summary: Keith screws up, Lance is captured, and the blue light of Voltron is dimmed. Who are you really, Lance? And what do you need?My Comments: Yep, it’s another fic where Lance is tortured, rescued, and recovers. I like these fics, what can I say. This is well-written and complete, so if you’re a sicko like me, check it out. Klance, but everyone is important.

Long Distance by Emerald_AshesWords: 1,565 Author’s Summary: Some nights you just wanted to call home, and know that everything was going to be okay. My Comments: Pidge and Lance! And Hunk as mom friend! But yeah, poor Pidge and Lance are both homesick and tired and they just want their families. I’m glad they have each other, though. The ending made me achy and happy.

Prison Bonds by GriffinRoseWords: 18,295 Author’s Summary: Keith and Lance are captured and stuck in a cell together, but it’s not the Galra. They almost wish it was. These Cordalians feed off of emotions, and their favorite emotion is sadness. Worse, they’ve found a way to make their victims relive their worst memories to make that pain fresh again, and Keith has a lot of terrible memories he’d rather not relive. My Comments: SO GOOD. SO MUCH PLATONIC CUDDLING. Lance and Keith are both suffering horribly, and all they can do is comfort each other and wait for rescue. I’m so happy that it’s gen, too. And it’s finished! Run, don’t walk. It’s so great.

When I’m done with you, I won’t be able to stop laughing,” Lance says lowly, and his lips curl farther, and there’s something wild in his stare, and it hits Keith suddenly. This isn’t Lance.Lance falls under the control of Zarkon’s Druids, and although his friends manage to get him back, nothing is quite the same. Maybe the Galra succeeded after all. Maybe the Galra merely wanted to tear Team Voltron apart from the inside.My Comments: Tagged as Klance, but so far it reads platonic. Really, really amazing story with Lance fighting brainwashing and everyone struggling to save him, trust him, return him to normal. Everyone has an important role, though there’s an emphasis on Keith. I really liked this one. It’s tense and heartbreaking at times, but it also has moments of great beauty.

Fake It by WashiPuppyWords: 8,994 Author’s Summary: Without the presence of other people to drown them out, the thoughts inside his head were getting too loud. Loud enough to drive him from his room in a desperate attempt to escape his own stupid head for long enough to sleep. It was too loud in there, and too honest. He needed to be around people, otherwise he was just left with…Just himself, and the agitated, twitching feeling of his own skin. A tale in which Lance and the Blue Lion have a one-sided conversation, Hunk is a Lance Whisperer, Pidge notices lots of things, Keith gets the wrong end of the stick, and Shiro gets a new nickname.My Comments: It is a known fact of Voltron fanfic that an insecure Lance requires a wise, comforting Hunk. This should be chiseled in stone somewhere. It practically already is. But yeah, I love this. Some snark and humor in there, too, and the characters feel like themselves.

I’m so glad to find more fics with these two being kind to each other. The characterization is great, with Lance trying to shrug things off with humor at first, then showing his real emotions to someone he trusts. I want so much more with these two.

Lance is deaged and stuck on a hostile planet, and there’s only one way that Blue can make sure he survives: Make a deal with Sendak. I know, right? But the author makes it work. Things get worse, and worse, especially when the rest of the crew finally finds them, and it’s super dramatic, but the emotions really work for me. Give it a shot if you like deaged!Lance and hurt/comfort and sympathetic Galra.

The space crew has figured out that Lance has terrible luck and walks headfirst into danger too much due to his friendly and trusting nature, and they take steps to protect him. It’s very subtly and gently done, until the end, when it isn’t anymore. So good. Give me all the Lance Protection Squad fics, please.

He’ll Be Fine by babitty for everyone who loves some good angstWords: 7,471 Author’s Summary: In which Hunk gets hurt, and Lance has no one to steady him. “Lance’s face burned, and he could hardly see through the blood and sweat dripping into his eyes. His arms burned from supporting Hunk and carrying his bayard. His legs burned from running and his lungs were fire in his chest, pure adrenaline coursing through his entire body. It was the only thing keeping him upright.”My Comments: As always, I am down for an exploration of Hunk and Lance and their relationship, mmm yes, and this is a good one. Poor Lance is so frantic about Hunk getting hurt, and he really needs his team to reassure him that everything will be okay, even though it’s hard to believe. Warm and fuzzy to the max, with bonus big brother Shiro just being as sweet as can be with a distraught Lance.

All That Matters by CamsthiSkyWords: 637 Author’s Summary: Keith talks Lance down from a panic attack. My Comments: Short but sweet! I would read Keith (or Hunk, or Shiro, or anyone) talking Lance down from a panic attack all day long.

Shiro has his past, though right now he has his a lion asking him for help and teammates who won’t tell him what’s going on in their heads. Lance has his doubts. And Keith… Well, he’s convinced that Hunk is some kind of Sex God who has slept with both Shiro and Lance. Now, how to prove that? Meanwhile, Hunk is just doing his best to look out for everyone. It’s like herding cats.My Comments: This is a sequel to a fic I recced in the past, and you should probably read the whole series for context if you haven’t yet, but this is SO good that I had to tell you about this one specifically. Lance has convinced himself that he’s replaceable, unnecessary, and Keith has gotten a misunderstanding from things seen out of context, but mostly this is about how much Blue loves her paladin and will do anything to prove that to him. The ending made me cry.

The (Not So) Still Of The Night by Sandyclaws68Words: 3,532 Author’s Summary: A few nights in such close quarters taught all of them a lot of things about their team mates.My Comments: Technical problems with their living quarters force the paladins to all sleep together in a little tiny room, and bonding ensues. They all irritate each other, they all help each other, they all comfort and cuddle and learn about each other. It’s beautiful in every way.

Rough Landings by SilfrvargWords: 2,079 Author’s Summary: In which Lance is having a bad day, and Keith is there to help however he can. My Comments: Aw, Lance. Sometimes everything just kind of falls apart at once and overwhelms you, even when you’re a Hero of the Universe. I loved Keith just doing absolutely everything he could to help Lance get through it.

It’s Only Allergies! Swear! by carefulrenWords: 2,621 Author’s Summary: Lance starts his week off with an innocent case of the sniffles that he believes to be allergies. Despite growing worse as the week progresses, he wants to believe that it’s still allergies. It’s not.My Comments: It’s a Lance sickfic. Of course I like it. I’m not even embarrassed anymore. Well, maybe a little bit. But I’m still reccing this.

Open Water by NeyieaWords: 1,398 Author’s Summary: Lance misses the smell of salt and the crunch of sand and the untameable waves. My Comments: I love Lance and Coran interaction almost as much as I love Lance and Hunk interaction, and this fic gave me BOTH. It’s short but incredibly gorgeous, heartachey and sweet and satisfying. It hits the spot.

Beautiful Minds by PotatoBenderWords: 16,247 (WIP)Author’s Summary: Lance used to be proud of his mental abilities. A pilot. A Paladin. Someone experienced with delving and controlling his mind. But after being captured, and enduring just a single encounter with Haggar, his castle was reduced to rubble. Rescuing Lance was the easy part - healing him is much, much harder.My Comments: This is my favorite kind of torture-and-rescue fic, where you kind of gloss over the actual torture and get straight to the rescue and healing and recovery. That’s what I like. I really like this. I’ll be reading each update as soon as it shows up in my email.

After a mission, Lance is locked away deep within Galra territory, at the hands of a Galra commander only wanting two things: information and his terror. Wait, what?My Comments: This one is especially heartrending because you get two Lances for the price of one, and they are BOTH scared and hurting and in need of help and gah, I’m so on edge about this story. The chapters are short but they’re updating quickly, which is good. I need them.

My Comments: Mm, yeah, hurt/comfort, this is the good stuff. THE GOOD STUFF. I was really touched by Keith’s tenacity and Lance’s courage, after all he’d been through, to still reach out the only way he could. Klance.

A Million Stars Apart by SerenePhenixWords: 8,217 (WIP 2/?)Summary: Lance usually could deal with a lot of things: being whisked away by a sentient alien ship together with friends, his hero and a rival, becoming part of an intergalatic war he had never known was even taking place, getting separated and reuniting with the closest thing he had to family in space…Yeah, it was not nice but he could take it.—–After surviving another incident with a malfunctioning wormhole, Lance finds himself in a position that might push him to his very limits. There are a lot of things he is unsure of but he knows with certainty that he does not wish to fail Allura or Coran in their quest to save the home they’ve lost. My Comments: This is such a fascinating concept. After a wormhole malfunction, Lance finds himself having dreams of an apparent alternate universe where he’s Allura’s sick younger brother. (BTW, yes, I am a big fan of AUs where Allura is Lance’s mom or big sister. Love ‘em.) Trouble is, he’s not getting any rest during these dreams, so he’s getting exhausted in his regular life. Seeing as I have written over 100k about exhausted Lance getting pushed to his breaking point and beyond, you can imagine how I feel about this fic. I am a fan.

Ablaze by waywardflowerWords: 5,297 Summary: He can’t burden them like this. He’ll be good, he’ll be fine by himself and he just has to show them that and they’ll leave him. Lance wants their attention, craves it, needs it to survive with his stupid omega body, but he can’t stand the thought of needing it. … Lance goes into heat.My Comments: Platonic omegaverse fic! Whoda thunk. Insecure Lance gets taken for a ride by his body, and it takes concentrated effort from everyone else to keep him safe. Some of the speeches at the end felt deeply personal and heartfelt. This fic made me ache, but I liked it.

This House Unfinished by boyghostsWords: 30,776 Author’s Summary: “Concept,” Lance said, his voice heavy and gutted with the ache of it; he caught Keith’s gaze and smiled wide, for show. “The war’s over. We’re back home. All the things we love in one place.” Lance keeps losing the things he’s built. Then there’s Keith.My Comments: Klance. This is a gorgeous fic. The writing is so descriptive and emotional, and I just adore Pidge and Hunk and everyone doing what they can to help Lance with his homesickness. The relationship with Keith feels natural, too, but the author did manage to kind of rip my heart out near the end, so. I’m gonna need some more, okay?

Trial by Ordeal by To Be or Not to- Oh forget it (Mikki)Words: 89,187 Author’s Summary: They’re supposed to be two sides of the same coin, or something like that. The truth is a bit more complicated. (Character study of Keith and Lance)My Comments: This is long, but absolutely worth the effort. Warning for depictions of abuse in both parts, but it’s treated realistically and respectfully. There were parts in Keith’s chapter that I had to stop reading for a while and do something else, and pretty much everything in Lance’s chapter made me ache for him and the family he left behind. But it’s really, really good. Amazingly well-written and deep and lifelike, and it all makes so much sense, for both of these characters. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long, long time.

But Shiro doesn’t intend to give up on trying. Not when he’s got four teenagers desperate to find their families again under his protection.My Comments: The author has been posting ficlets from this sort of tongue-in-cheek AU on tumblr, and they are all AWESOME. I will happily read them again on AO3. My favorite was the one where Shiro saves Lance from bandits, but that one isn’t on AO3 yet. But here’s Lance in his typical role as Best Morale Officer Ever, even in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.

It falls to Pidge to earn their freedom, and it doesn’t come without a dangerous cost. My Comments: This fic is AMAZING. Pidge is an absolute badass, smart and strong and extremely well-characterized. The frantic run afterward to get her to help was intense and wrenching, too. And Lance was especially wonderful. You can feel his desperation, how deeply he loves Pidge and needs her to be okay, because she’s his little sister now and he CANNOT lose his family. Ahhh, I loved this one to bits. Highly recommended.

boredom is cruel and unusual punishment by babittyWords: 3,183 Author’s Summary: 3000 words of Lance getting the shit beat out of him, because i needed to get some angst out of my system. it’s not very graphic but injuries are listed and batons are used. My Comments: This is an old-fashioned whump fic, where the point is very much Lance (and Keith to a lesser extent) getting beat up. But there’s a lot of courage and tenacity on display here, and they do very much feel like themselves. An enjoyable fic, if you’re in the mood for hurt with not a lot of comfort.

all alone, all together by seulesWords: 1,516 Author’s Summary: This is bigger than anything he ever imagined. Lance knows the world’s balls deep shitty, so it’s not much of a stretch for the universe to take a crap and coat itself in it, only in a much larger scale. But it’s different when you’re told that the universe as you know it is about to be completely taken over by a tyrannical, fascist madman (surprise, surprise) and Obi-Lance Kenobi, you’re 1/5 of the universe’s only hope! My Comments: Aww, Lance and Allura bonding! I’m astounded that mine is the only comment on this fic. Please read it and encourage the writer.

Why doesn’t anyone believe him? It must be Keith’s fault. This is a horror-comedy (but like, also a romance?), and I drew pictures.My Comments: Here, have some epic Klance hurt/comfort. It’s really well done.

Voltron RANT beware!!

Ok so several things as I peruse through the Voltron and other tags in that fandom that came to my mind. I shall get some hate but I needed to say my thoughts. First is the fact that these characters are in a scenario way beyond their individual comfort levels. All of them. For the most part they are not going to be hung up on ideas of love and such. I believe Lance uses flirting as a coping mechanism since it allows a sense of familiarity with home. Second is the fact that many of these characters are young. Several with major issues that would prevent them from understanding their sexual preferences and what they are. So all this fighting about shipping is moot. However, the bonds and closeness of each character to the others COULD form something more once the main issues each face are overcome. Now I will go into my personal ideas on each character. This is NOT an attack on anyone and is just my two cents about these characters. Lance: Like I said earlier I believe Lance to use flirting and also his animosity towards Keith as coping mechanisms. He is Cuban and family is HUGE for that culture. He has lost connection with his family and I bet he is acutely aware of each day that passes on Earth and what he is missing with his family. His rivalry with Keith allows him a grounding in a familiar territory as he must have had it going for a long time at the Garrison. Giving him something to keep his thoughts away from family. Basically any odd spike in flirting with others or animosity towards Keith could be seen as an attempt to bury sadness about missing another birthday or other significant family function. On top of him trying to find something that makes him useful. Remember he is constantly reminded how he wasn't supposed to be a fighter-class pilot by superiors. He has only received recognition from Shiro once or twice and generally seems think he is tacked on or dragged along. But when his skills come in handy they shine. The problem is he is unsure if they are needed. He is unsure what he can do. Of all the Paladins besides Pidge, I believe he knows who he is but has no clue what he is capable of. Leaving himself self aware and with feelings of uselessness. As for pairings Pidge would feel like a sibling to him, the younger dynamic and the light teasing seen between them is very reminiscent of that dynamic. Allura would be a crush and possibly someone he uses aspects from when finding partners since she has many personality aspects he seems to value. I do believe Keith to be at least bisexual if not pansexual. But he is definitely in favor of feminine features and physicality. He is open and inviting to Pidge on first meeting "him" while having a modicum of caution in his approach. The reason you don't see him flirting with males is the hostile and violent negative reaction many would give from being hit on by a fellow male. Meaning he would wait to see if flirting could be seen as playful and such before doing it with males. Keith: This poor child. He has no clue who or what he is. He is a lost little boy using anger and impulsiveness as shields of his self doubt. Shiro gives him a sense of grounding and stability. Next season will be interesting to see how Shiro's absence effects him. That said this poor boy is so lost I don't think anyone can correctly guess what his sexuality is. He also won't have any clue how to handle attractions or feelings of desire. Quite frankly he is a poster child of repressed sexual exploration and it's probably one of many reasons for his behavioural issues. That said I don't think any direct family are Galra. While an interesting idea and good story device it would be more feasible to make a very distant ancestor was Galra. The knife being passed down through the generations. Mainly for several plot hole issues. The blue lion had to be on Earth for 3000-10000 years. When they were scattered Allura was awake. The cave markings were in the style of before common era and the year of the story is definitely a few centuries near our own. None of the technology shown from Earth seemed so far advanced to say the story is more than 150-300 years from now. So the Galra in Keith's history could be the Pilot of the blue lion if it was an ancient ancestor. Otherwise there would need to be a very convoluted story of a Galra being several light years from the empire or Blade of Marmorra alone and crashing on Earth without anyone coming to get them for more than a few years and having no knowledge of the blue lion being on Earth. Relationship wise he probably sees all the Paladins and such as an extended family and will be fiercely protective of them all while also being a bit standoffish and aggressive about any feelings he doesn't know how to deal with. Hunk: This huge cinamon bun child. Sweet, innocent, and caring. He misses food. Samoans culture has a huge culinary side. Not just for culture specific, they love to try new things. In my experience Samoans have some of the most varied tastes of anyone. Many learn to cook from a young age as the culture prizes independence and community usefulness. Cooking is seen as something everyone must do and celebrate. Out in Glara space we see little fanfare about food and it seems to focus on just the nutritional aspects and not the flavor or feeling it can bring. Meaning a huge part of what Hunk sees as himself is missing in this new environment making him want to bring it out and make it popular. Seen in his cooking in the first few episodes and the mall episode. On top of that this lovable giant has adopted all of the people he connects with as family. Samoans are big on family but also tend to be more functional when separated for long time frames. They know their family is there when they get back. But they also tend to form family with those they form bonds with and not just share blood. Shay helping him and showing how truly little she has seen of the universe made him want to help her and his continued interest in her is adorable and shows Hunk as probably the most well adjusted of the Paladins. Honestly while he freaks out over many smaller things Hunk seems to have a handle on the bigger aspects such as being so far from home and the need of their mission. Hunk is also the one I would identify as the most sure of himself. He knows who he is, what he can do, and how he works. He is the rock of the team. Shiro: My god this poor man. He probably felt completely sure of who he was and his role before Zarkon. After a year as a prisoner and gladiator I am surprised he is able to still be so together. His identity of himself was shattered a bit from his imprisonment. He is afraid of himself to a degree. The new aspects being drawn out from being the leader of Voltron also shake his perception of himself. I don't think he ever actually saw himself as a leader. Or that he even does now. I think he sees himself more like the older brother to them all and he needs to do what he can to help and protect them. That said I feel like his inner turmoil and trauma prevent a lot of the closer bonding that he needs. One thing I would have liked to have seen was more one on one interaction with him and Allura as we haven't really been able to tell how he handles females closer to his age in a familiar manner. Basically I have nothing to base his sexuality or prefences off of. He could swing in any direction honestly. Otherwise I can't say much about him. Most of his time was spent about his trauma, new leader role, or comforting/helping the others come to terms with themselves. We were not given a chance to really explore his character beyond those aspects. Pidge: This driven, passionate, and hell-bent girl is amazing. I saved her for last cause she is by far my favorite character. Millions of light-years from Earth? No problem! New and strange technology, culture, and bizarness? Pfft whatevs! Nothing is gonna get in her way of finding her family. At 15 she is the youngest, all others estimated at late teens. But this means she started this mission of hers at 11-13, depending on how you interpret the story. She was just starting to realize her sexuality and the like when she became laser focused on her family. I doubt she evens sees herself as a sexual being. I do believe she sees herself as feminine rather than masculine but honestly gender is a moot thing as your sex does not determine your ability or worth. Biologically she is female in the sphere of the show. But otherwise she should just be labeled Pidge. Trans-Pidge theory is interesting but also a bit large to tackle in a children's cartoon. It definitely makes for some interesting fanfics! (I mean born male and wanting to be seen as female, then taking on male to disguise herself to get more info on family) She is definitely not born female wanting to be male otherwise she would have not bothered saying she was female to the other Paladins. Also she may not be sexually attracted to people. I kinda want to see her get involved with a gender neutral Android! Her love of technology is absolutely adorable. Can't you see her stuttering as she tried to talk to a humanoid and advanced AI Android? Adorbs! One small personal note her character has allowed some self-realization for myself. Before she was revealed to be a she I felt kinship with her tech savvy ways and thought of how I would love to get to know this smol child. After the reveal I gained a desire to see her protected, chauvinistic I know, but it's instinctual to a degree with males. But it highlighted to me how I can shift my perception of somebody once I know their designation. Also if she was several years older I would claim her as waifu cause damn she is impressive and stunning at times. On pairings I think she won't even begin to think about relationships before he brother and father are found and safe. Otherwise she will just ignore her feelings until that goal is achieved. Allura and Coran: Honestly they are aliens. Trying to assign the same human ideals as we do to ourselves is folly. For God's sakes we don't even know which sex carries the young! We don't see any scenes of pregnant Alteans! For all we know they lay eggs! How their minds work with relationships also is not very clearly defined by the show. They have familial bonds but marital and the like aren't reflected on. So how they are processing everything is anyone's guess! Pairing thoughts: Shiro is someone I can see paired with anyone except Pidge. The other teens I see as 17-18, and Shiro I see more like 23-25. But Pidge is 14-15 and I don't think has any actual time coming into being a sexual being. While I don't ship him with any of the Paladins him and Pidge make me uncomfortable to be seen paired together. Not to attack those that do, this is just my take on it. KeithxLance - I love love/hate dynamics but honestly I don't see it here. Though they would make very close and supportive/competitive almost brothers. AlluraxShiro - Probably the ship I agree with the most. Allura would make a great guide for him to get over his trauma and Shiro would offer her a source of calm stability with how out in the open she must feel losing basically all her support structures. Though I doubt it will happen soon. HunkxShay - I love this ship but I also see it as tragic since Shay wouldn't really leave the Balmera for very long and Hunk would not really fit into the culture there easily or ever. Not to say he would not be welcome but his inability to communicate with the Balmera would lead to a lot of exclusion and issues. PidgexTechnology - Pretty sure I made myself clear earlier! ****Rant over****
