y/n grunted once more as she sprawled out along the floor, Laia huffing in annoyance as the ref gave her a final warning before a card. The foul was given and a free kick set up.

Katie stood behind y/n hands on her shoulders as she whispered encouragement in the girl's ear. It was 1-1 and two minutes before half time.

y/n breathed in, pulling back before sending her foot through the ball and off to the left of Keating, the next bulging as y/n let out a shout of triumph.

Ella got to her first, flinging her thinner frame onto her, screaming in happiness as united crowded around the midfielder. The group all parted, moving back to their positions as Laia walked past y/n watching her.

y/n couldn't help but send a wink Laia's way finding considerable joy in the way the vein in her neck bulged in annoyance. Laia's jaw clenched, clearly troubled with the way she gave away the free kick.

The whistle blew soon enough and the crowd was engulfed in a sea of red as the cheers bounced. The united girls walked toward the tunnel, several pats being bounced off of y/n's shoulder.

Laia moved past y/n, her shoulder pushing past as she walked toward the Man City room and y/n scoffed, noticing they were the only ones in the corridor.

"Grow up Aleixandri." y/n warned the girl, pulling at her ponytail.

"Learn to take a hit, l/n." Laia hissed back, y/n turned on her heel facing Laia as she smirked.

"Learn not to give the free kicks, and I wouldn't score them." y/n winked before walking into the changing room, a string of Spanish curses following her.

The second half was no let up from the first, City came hard and fast, and Laia was once again harsh to y/n and stuck to her like glue, but y/n had enough by then.

She started jostling back, her tackles rougher than they could have been, her shoulder's definitely bruised from the amount of contact they had received.

Laia had made a great run, her shot was perfect, and it would have gone in, if not for the sliding united midfielder who cleared it off the line and into Ella who booted it away.

Laia let out a yell of annoyance as she watched Mary hug y/n in relief, grateful for her all or nothing attitude as she flung herself to the ground to stop a goal.

The corner was prepared and Laia pressed her back against y/n's front, Laia's shoulder just blocking y/n's view due to their height difference.

y/n huffed in annoyance as she placed her hands on Laia's waist, in between all the shoving in the box her movements were completely unnoticed.

"Is it weird I quite like having you pressed against me like this?" y/n whispered in Laia's ear, just as the corner was taken, stunned completely, Laia paused.

Mary caught the ball and y/n was already gone. Katie received the ball from Mary, and while Laia tried to sprint back to her position, y/n had received the through ball from her captain and hammered it home.

The gleeful laugh let out by y/n was drowned out by the screams and cheers of the crowd. However, Laia could not hear them, all she could hear was her own blood, pumping in her head.

"That was not fair." Laia hissed as y/n jogged past her, but the player ignored her completely, setting herself in her position.

The whistle blew and y/n intercepted a pass from Jill, sending it through to Ella, just as a hand gripped her wrist and she was sent flying back.

"What the fuck?" y/n asked Laia, hands flying up as she raced to her feet.

"Oh, did that hurt?" Laia mocked, eyes sparkling as Ella moved y/n away, muttering calming words as Laia scoffed at her booking.

Not even two minutes later, she made another anger driven tackle. y/n was the only one up the pitch, she had slid through Greenwood and began a run down the right wing when she felt it.

Weirdly enough, Laia had meant to get the ball, she had not intended to hurt y/n in the slightest, but as soon as she caught her ankle she knew.

y/n all but flipped, her body colliding with Laia's, temple into the Spanish girl's elbow and y/n was suddenly on the floor un-moving. Lauren yelped, kicking the ball out of play as she ran to her best friend.

"What are you doing that for?" She yelled at her teammate who couldn't speak, only watch the trickle of blood which had formed from a cut on her brow.

"I- I..." Laia began, but the whistle blew and the familiar red card was shown at her, the girl sighing and walking off ignoring the boo's that followed, her mind only on the girl who she had just crumbled before her.

y/n groaned again, annoyed by the aching in her head as she tried to block out the lights of the locker room. Ella had packed her car for her, but the midfielder had demanded that she shower before she went home.

Ella had offered to drive her back, but she had denied, saying Lauren would because they lived together anyway, and her blonde best friend was not upset about the game, merely worried for her injury.

The stitches which sat above her eyebrow were uncomfortable and tight as they pinched her skin. y/n pulled her final shoe on and walked toward the door.

There were many things y/n kind of expected, Laia Aleixandri to be waiting outside the locker room, was not one. She had her nail in her mouth, biting nervously.

"Are you okay?" Laia asks, as soon as she sees y/n who sends her a confused look.

"Yeah, concussion out for a few weeks due to its severity." y/n nodded, her voice low as she rocked back on her heels.

"I see." Laia nodded, she then sighed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you." She adds.

"Yeah, well you'd been gunning for me all game, didn't realise you would actually get a shot." y/n chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly.

"You make me so mad, do you know?" Laia asks, and y/n chuckles slightly.

"Yeah, I got that honestly." She hums and Laia sighs.

"So quick, so strong, so good." Laia lists, her eyes almost hard with annoyance. "So pretty." Laia adds quietly, but y/n could hear it.

"You think I'm pretty?" y/n teases Laia, but the woman did something she hadn't expected.

"Yes. Gorgeous in fact." Laia hums, stepping forward, and in her panic, y/n pretty much falls against the wall behind her, as Laia brings her feet to touch y/n's the bodies so close to touching.

y/n couldn't function her entire brain had been pushed into overdrive by the sweet scent of Laia's perfume, which seemed to cling to her like a frightened child.

"Where's that sharp tongue of yours now, mi amor?" Laia asks, the Spanish slipping off her tongue made y/n's eyes roll in pleasure, which Laia watched with a smug smirk.

"Please." y/n whispered, letting her smug attitude sink below as she tried to focus on anything other than Laia's lips hovering above her own.

"Please what amor?" Laia whispers.

"Bésame." y/n whispered, Laia was clearly shocked at the use of her native language, assuming y/n didn't know Spanish. She would be right mainly, y/n only knew a few words, 'kiss me' being one of them.

Laia paused and y/n pressed up, their lips meeting with power, heads tilting, hands gripping at whatever would steady them, for y/n it was Laia's broad shoulders.

For Laia, it was the slight dip in y/n's waist, her hands gripping tightly and pulling her close as she leaned down and further in. y/n's tongue traced along Laia's bottom lip.

The Spaniard opened her mouth and y/n expected to be able to enter it, but she had other ideas, sliding one hand from her waist to slide her fingers across y/n's chin, Laia took control.

y/n couldn't think as Laia infected her, with her touch, her kiss, her scent, all she could think about is doing this for the rest of her life, if y/n was put on this earth to kiss Laia Aleixandri and only Laia, so be it.

The two pulled away, panting and holding tight, delicately Laia brushed her thumb over the stitched on y/n's head and sighed as she pecked her lips.

"We'll come back." a voice says and Lauren turns away, trying to grab Ella who had paused mouth open wide.

"No we won't." Ella denies. "What the f-"

my brain can't handle angst for long periods of time but like imagine perhaps a story somewhat vv loosely based on the classic little mermaid tale w/ a sprinkle of ref from cinderella–– still GN reader tho ofc

(Slight cw for metaphorical use of knives under one’s feet but to b clear its used in a metaphorical sense ok)

So imagine that you’re an Inazuman mythical creature of some sort (maybe a kitsune, tengu or some other creature who can alter their form, so they can technically pass as human) but you’re benevolent in nature and more curious about humanity than anything else, though you’ve had to keep your distance from people due to the Raiden Shogun’s suppression driving most inhumans into the forest (as mentioned in the retracing bolide circlet lore.)

Although you live in the forest, as unchanging as the trees around you, the humans fascinate you. Whatever human trinkets that the forest creatures bring you, or the stories of the people the birds and foxes sing to you, you listen intently and grow ever-more fascinated by humanity. Over time though, it grows old. You want to do more than just sit by and listen–– you want to experience it too! You want to have a good time for once, partake in human culture for just one night. Be delf indulgent, then you can be sated and go back into the forest peacefully. One day, you hear about some sort of festival being held by the humans and taking this opportunity, you decide screw it, let's go.

Like how Sara hides her wings, you disguise yourself as human and join in the festivities. But Thoma, who is in attendance, realizes he’s not familiar with you after you pass him by. After the scare with the Fatui wanting to take over Inazuma not too long ago, he grows suspicious and thinks that you might be in league with people trying to ruin the festival.

As he's about to politely escort you out, he notices how wide-eyed and amazed you are by everything and how you genuinely seem to not have any ill intent towards the festival, very reminiscent of himself the first time he had attended one himself, and decides, yk, they don’t seem bad. There wouldn’t be any harm in letting them stay. (and if you do have ill intent, it would be better to keep an eye on you anyway.) So instead, he escorts you around the area, shows you the games people play and the food they eat, and is basically vv amused by how 'wow omg' you are to everything.

And as the night wears on, he finds that,,, he actually really likes being around you. Escorting you around went from something he did out of obligation for the festival’s success to something that he genuinely enjoyed. Your enthusiasm and genuineness is something he doesn’t experience very much, and being with you, he was able to just... have fun. As the night progressed, his smile grows wider when it’s with you, and he makes several excuses to hold your hand. TL;DR, Thoma starts to fall for you, and hard.

Problem is though... well, you notice the beginnings of Thoma's attraction, and though you also find him attractive and very sweet, you know that things likely won't end well with a relationship between due to how different your worlds are. How much you’d both have to sacrifice to be together. And it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, knowing that you’ll never have this again.

But just for tonight, just once, you can be a little self indulgent, while you have time together. Just once. So Thoma and you have fun together at the festival, you laugh and dance and play the festival games. Maybe you and Thoma kiss under the fireworks i dunno i dunnooo–– but when Thoma asks for your name, asks to see your again after that night, you doesn’t, like, give him a straight answer about it, but regretfully you can't bring themself to break his heart either.

As the festival ends, so too do Thoma and you prepare to leave. Thoma insists on walking you home since it’s not safe this late, but you tell him that you’ll be fine. That you’ll see him again soon, even though Thoma doesn’t know you’re lying through your teeth. And when Thoma heads back to the Yashiro Commission, you too go back into the forest.

For the next week, Thoma frequents that same area, hoping to see you again. He wanders the roads, asks the locals if they’ve seen someone who matches you description, only for them to say they’ve never met anyone like that. As time goes on, Thoma starts to lose hope of seeing you again. He wonders if he dreamed the whole experience up, if it was just his tired mind playing tricks on him.

It’s definitely possible, he thinks sometimes, when he stands in the place where you two shared your first ––your only–– kiss. Alone, with only his thoughts for company. Sometimes, when he stands there, from the corner of his eye and only for a split second, he swears he sees you gazing longingly at him from the edge of the forest. But when he looks properly he sees nothing–– only a forest creature of some sort, like a fox or a bird, standing where you stood.

That’s usually when he decides it’s best to go home–– after all, imagining a forest creature as the person who’s been occupying his thoughts? He must be really tired. So with a sad, wistful smile, he shuts his eyes as shakes his head, trying to clear the memory of one of the best evenings of his life, trying to forget the person who had both entered and exited his life in such a flourish, and makes his way back to the Yashiro Commission.

It’s only when Thoma’s back is turned that you watch him with eyes just as wistful and longing as his own. Because oh how you itch to run to him, to apologize for keeping him waiting. Your heart aches when you imagine the life you could have with him. Eating festival street food, laughing at the game booths. Sharing another kiss ––the beginning of hundreds–– under the fireworks.

There is something inside you that pains when you have to sit idly by as you watch Thoma and that future grow further with every step. It absolutely fucking hurts when you grit your teeth and turn back into the forest, each step feeling like there are knives under your feet, pricking you and paining you for leading him on, for leading yourself on.

The forest is colder than you remember. Lonelier too. So different from the warmth you’ve felt when you were with him. The ache in your chest hurts so much that you don’t even realize you’re crying, breathing ragged and tears dripping from your eyes.

You want to go back to him so bad but you can’t. Not now. Not even when each step back into your life of solitude feels like it kills you.

How cruel fate is, to have shown you the right person in the wrong lifetime.

Alright so let me start this by saying max philips is a combination of an absolute perfect husband and father but also a goddamn M E N A C E

He’s loving and attentive, but mf will grope you in public, not to be a dick but because his internal monolouge is like “my wife is so cool and sexy all the time i love her so much” and then he grabs your ass while youre in a whole foods.

Often times he’ll do that cliche “honey, im home!” bit when he comes home because he KNOWS it annoys the living hell out of you and he’s been doing it since yall got married.

He is def one of those dads who will take any moment to boast about his kids. Some employees miss when he first started working there because now if you talk about sports he’ll bring up his son’s soccer team and you’ll be stuck there for the next thirty minutes as he shows you pictures of the boys at their last game.

That obnoxious proud dad. If one of his kids does theatre? He’s whooping and cheering their name and you have to pull him down into his seat with a sharp hiss of “sit the fuck down”

Probably has started fights with the refs at soccer games when they miss a CLEAR foul or is somebody pushes his kid?? and they don't do a goddamn thing?? Vamp dad is shouting at the ref to get their head out of their ass before he does it for them.

Because of this Max is no longer asked to bring orange slices for the boy’s soccer team.

You have two kids. Both boys and both elementary school age. (idk their names yet tho) and they are your babies. Pride and joy. Light of your life.

They are also tiny agents of chaos that run you both ragged.

When it comes to allergies, theirs coincide with being werewolves+vamps.

Your vampire son is allergic to garlic and your werewolf son is allergic to wolfsbane. Luckily the extent to this allergy is just sneezing and breaking out into hives, not, ya know, death.

But max still has to race downstairs at three a.m. because he can hear munching and now has to wrestle garlic bread out of his son’s mouth as he has an allergic reaction while still eating it because “WE CAN’T KEEP DOING THIS ALEX”

Meanwhile you’ll go to the park with your son and see him sneezing with every step while picking wolfsbane because “It’s just so pretty mommy.”

Safe to say you guys are constantly exhausted.

Now lets be real here. You're just as fiery and protective of your family if not more and goddamn he does love it.

He takes off every full moon, drives you and the family up to the cabin where you and your son can shift in peace. He thinks its a great bonding moment for you all. Your son is just barely a pup that trots after you, and more often than not you're just making sure he doesn’t get lost, start playing in mud, or eats trash (he has done this multiple times)

Your son shifts into a lil wolf pup and it’s adorable.

But at the same time he has that puppy energy so he’s all over the place. Running after rabbits and play biting you, you take it all in stride of course but once he tries to get back to the house covered in mud Max brings out the hose.

“Does this count as child abuse?”

“I don’t think so, look how much fun he’s having!” *cut to your son jumping and trying to eat the water as mas sprays him down with the hose*

You've got that mama bear strength combined with werewolf strength that max finds insanely hot to the point that anytime you tell off some bitchy mom for making a snooty comment about your kids he has half a mind to find a closet nearby and pull you in for a quickie.

speaking of strength, the sex? World changing. More often than not yall have to resolve to quick screws in the morning before the kids wake up and he has to go to work. But when the boys are at a sleepover or their grandparents house for the weekend? You might as well warn the neighbors cause they won’t be getting any sleep with ya’ll fucking all night lmao.

Max doesn’t feel pain much since he’s turned, but with your strength? the feeling of your nails raking down his back just teeters on the edge of painful and he fucking lives for it.

Any time you visit him at the office? Office sex. He’ll have that look of like barely contained excitement as he asks about your day and shows you off to his employees but he is literally shaking to get you ontop of his desk.

you take heat suppressants because nobody has time for that shit. But when yall were first dating and you forgot to renew your prescription??

Max literally broke like three traffic laws driving to your place.

You basically called him and said “im in a horny frenzy and im gonna want to fuck you stupid for the next week.”

Homeboy was like “say no more” and left his job with zero explanation to his boss before getting to his car and driving like a mad man

Max is vv touchy. Not always in a sexual way. Sometimes he just wants to lay with his head on your lap or on your chest because he’s naturally cold so he loves feeling close to you cause youre all nice and warm. Sometimes hell just hug you and grab your ass.

“You having fun there?”

“Shhhh honey im coping with a hard day at work.”

“By holding my ass?”

JAW DROPPED, TIME STOPPED being insecure all her life and wanting to live up to the expectations to her dad just to have that sliver of attention from him, that sentence gives us a glimpse on how little she felt despite being accomplished, rather successful actually because she always cleans her boss’ mess have a lot of baggage to unpack. and when the secret was confirmed, her anger rejects all of the entity that ties with her past because both her parents deprived her for the things she was supposed to have– becoming greedy to fulfill those. then eventually, somehow, going back to her roots aka being humble after having the talk with her dad. As most of her insecurity started because of him and how she had to be the bigger person for his other family, clearing out the misunderstanding between them brought a sense of peace while she’s settling in the restless turn of events.

and with our main man gojo, this guy, it is not wise to- 😤😤 how can you say you’re engaged after doing the body tango huh? esp when you said you want y/n to be your wife? oh gee and the revelation of his past relationship with mia and how he sees her in y/n is so fucked up. can’t help but think that satoru wanting to marry and be this lovey-dovey with y/n is just him reliving the moments that mia never gave him in the past. and y/n accepting that their current relationship is based on how they’re filling up the cracks in their needs and settling for the sake of familiarity. imagine how deep in love our girl is to keep satoru in her life 💔 im still in it for the second lead agenda

hmm y/n wasn’t really working hard for her dad’s attention, it was more like she felt so left out and unwanted (she feels unwanted wherever she goes) that she just decided to pack up and support them from afar bcos to her, she’s so alienated in her dad’s family that she felt like she had to work hard to earn a spot in their table. she knows she’s the outsider but she wants to feel like she can be part of them, that she is also a child deserving of love and care, but becos her stepmom focused more on her actual kids and her own dad was too busy with his new family now, it made y/n feel that she had to do something to be worthy of that.

that’s why most of the money she made working in tokyo was still wired to her family; she put her brothers in school and supported them, all because she hoped it would make them accept her more. now, things are different because she finally found her biological family, but even if valeria and co. still don’t want her, y/n is now more focusing on building something that’s truly hers that no one can take away. yes yes, she did become greedy, but more for power than of acceptance. she got to a point she doesn’t care as much vying for her parents’ approval and now thinks her luxury gives her comfort; only because at least she has that much. like she said in the latest chapter, happiness was not what she needed, it was stability and money - all things she lacked before.

and yea she did go back to her roots! all of her issues started with her dad anyway but that part is slowly patching up 🩹💔 oooh actually your theory is right bestie 🧐 gojo found y/n interesting bcos she reminded him of mia, so the more she pushed him away, the more he’s like wait, i’ve been here before, let’s not repeat past mistakes but i can do better now. on the part where gojo talked to mia while she was asleep, notice how he said he’s given a second chance to do better now, all because he couldn’t do them with mia but he could with y/n.

ohhh actually y/n was the one who established that ‘fulfilling mutual need and settling for familiarity instead of being lonely’ type of relationship. gojo avoided her for weeks and he’s pretty settled in keeping his distance, but she was the one who sought him out. deep down, y/n is afraid if she doesn’t at least use him as an anchor to her more humble roots, then she might spiral out of control and end up like valeria, thus using him as a ‘distraction’ but in reality, she needs his comfort to be grounded.

also yoo supermodel! choso is THE hot shit 🥵 he’s so famous his schedule is packed for an entire year and a half and those are just for very selected brands and designers! ugh imagine going to work on the subway when you see supermodel! choso with rbf posing sexily and you swoon because he’s so sexy. plot twist that choso doesn’t know how to drive bcos as a kamo family member, they grew up with drivers taking them to and fro, so when his driver got sick and everyone else was busy, supermodel choso takes the subway himself and hides behind a face mask and cap while still wearing extravagant clothes that makes him stand out more. he does not have ‘subtle’ on his book at all.

and yeah people say he’s intimidating but its more his height and build + rbf! in reality, he’s just as soft and sweet as naoya, but both of them go into protective mode when someone they care about is being crapped on. and boy when they DO get into “what did you just say?” mode, better run away 🏃🏻‍♀️ supermodel! choso is also an heir to the kamo empire though not after the business, but he still has enough power to take you down in a second.

meanwhile, lawyer! naoya didn’t become this successful without being so savage yet composed he makes you question your entire existence before he drags you to court. lawyer! naoya is so scarily convincing that he can make you plead guilty even tho you did nothing wrong 💀

aaaah omg supermodel! choso LOVES babies actually! as the eldest child who looked after his brothers bcos the kamo parents are always away for work, being a father figure is so natural to him. i can picture him being the one who cries harder than gojo if the baby is born bcos he’s so excited, then reads poems to the baby before sighing that childbirth is such a beautiful thing 🥺

Finale commentary under the cut

So I wanted to kind of liveblog as I was watching but held back so these are my remembered reactions/second watch reactions

Bummed there was no song recap but quickly figured itd play at the end

Theyre really doing a cheesey life montage huh - still not clear whether monsters are a thing in this new world?

I was watching the mins tick by during this first montage like OKAY we get it, cheesey happy home life, move along. There was only 40 mins left of the whole show like get on with it, it went way too long

We definately needed to restablished that Sam is neat while Dean is messy. Totally necessary to spend time on that. Also didnt Dean get houseproud when they moved into the bunker?? What happened to that?

Then becomes apparent that hunting is still a thing. Which if so what was the point of showing then doing fucking laundry and dishes while “Ordinary life” plays - if its not just an ordinary life?

At this point i thought it might go the route of them being listless without hunting as a job but then murder scene so I guess not

This whole pie sequence is stupid and a waste of time, we all know it

I started skipping through during the murder scene. I was bored. Like, I dont care about tension building to the murder of a family we dont fucking know. Ive always skipped these scenes, what is the damn point. Its not scary or interesting.

Watching it again I realise just how easy this hunt is. The answer is in the journal. They find the exact family. They find the exact barn. The kids are just stood in a cupboard. This is what takes Dean out, really? Its not even a normal hunt, its a way too fucking easy one.

I do not remember this chick or what ep she was in, maybe theres some parallell or foreshadowing by bringing her back but if there is I dont get it

Bottom line if youre gonna bring people back WHY THE FUCK THIS RANDOM GIRL

I kept saying out loud not like this, no way, this is so stupid, its so stupid omg

I paused and tried to talk myself into putting aside how stupid and awkward it was for him to be doing this scene hanging off a pole and just try to invest in the emotion of the speech. Which I achieved at times

but why was is so awkward tho?? Just the way hes stood pressed against it is fucking weird. Also 1000% Sam couldve gotten help and he wouldve been FINE. It took so long for them to talk, an ambulance couldve been there before they were done, there was no need for this

Okay the speech did make me cry once I pep talked myself into being invested. The reference to being scared Sam would reject him, the I love you so much, Sam saying dont leave me, the stay with me and tell me its okay - all those moments got me and I did cry. I appreciated the family business line. I liked Jensen telling Jared he always keeps fighting, that was a nice reference.

BUT there were also those moments that made me scoff, roll my eyes or laugh. The whole “always you and me” bullshit especially. The second I knew he was going to say I’ll be in your heart I yelled at them to no do it, I hate that cheesey move, then literally was like “oh my god, he did it”. It WAS NOT always going to end like this - so much of the last 15 years was proving him wrong about that. This is all just so wrong, it is not good.

Jensen and Jared did a good job with what they were given in this scene but my god

The audacity of the Cas erasure- always you and me. FUCK YOU.

I laughed out loud when his last shot was a One Perfect Tear. I was literally like “Oh wow they did that”

DEAN DESERVED A BETTER DEATH

It also kinda loses all impact when you see him like 2 mins later

I know people are upset Cas is back working in heaven but I dont think its anything like before. It sounds like he helped fixed things then got his own heaven. Also he’s God’s Dad, hes not serving God, hes teaching him. I know human Cas done right is what we wanted but I dont hate this for him. BUT WE SHOULD HAVE FUCKING SEEN IT.

Why is a memory of being a kid with his Dad what Dean is reminiscing on. They have literally reverted him back to s1. There are so many memories dean should be thinking about in fucking heaven

I did get a bit teary when the music started I’ll be honest. But mostly through the whole montage (ANOTHER ONE) I was saying to myself This is so fucking stupid. omg this is dumb, what the fuck is this, so stupid.

They literally did a montage so long they had to play the song twice. Im just done at this point wow.

The old man make up is so bad I just laughed. The only pictures being of the 4 of them, reinforcing the Winchester only bullshit, great. Not even pics of this new random family Sam’s got. The painfully cliche Dad moments for Sam, again so bad its funny. Omg the hand on the head of this random kid, this is so ridiculous. Old man sam in his bad wig trying so hard to move like hes old and crying in the impala. Wtf is happening, this is SO STUPID

I thought theyd cast a more attractive son I’ll be honest. So he has the tattoo - are they a hunting family? Because that would go against both s1 Sam they’ve tried to go back to and the s15 Sam they build up to for all those years

OH HEWWO here’s the two new characters for ATS I’ve been gushing about nonstop!! Their refs have actually been done for quite a while, I wanted to draw more of them before I shared but I just got so excited I couldn’t wait!!

Their inspiration is probably pretty obvious lmao as stated several times by my pals but well, Albion’s been planned to look smth like that for a long time now so :’Dc

Albion’s on the top!! And Ikaia’s on the bottom!!

Their backgrounds and story details are under the cut, but be warned, it is LONG lol

Albion Kerrigan Age: ??? (Physically, early twenties) Hair color: Black and white Eye color: Black and white (Dual-user) Element: Light and Darkness

Remember when I introduced Edan and Valdis way waaaay back? Well, Albion is one of their companions--the Grandmaster of Light and Darkness! (His name was Alva previously, but I changed it.) He’s existed within Kishuniia for countless millennia, ever since that world was created. However, unlike his Grandmaster brethren he doesn’t like to play by their rules, and goes to interact with humans despite the fact that it’s strictly forbidden by Astraeus (the Grandmaster’s leader and the only existing tri-user (besides Kaz, who is a special case)). Because of his Grandmaster status, he serves as a pillar for Shima’s world, being an existence that keeps it thriving. If a Grandmaster were to be killed, the entire world would collapse instantly, for those seven pillars are needed to keep it functioning. And that is the reason why they conceal themselves from humans, spending thousands of years avoiding humanity or just in hibernation, and why Astraeus, being their leader, is so cautious about interacting with humans, who could easily abuse them for their power and unknowingly cause the world’s destruction.

Even so! Albion has always been an outsider within the Grandmaster group--not because he doesn’t get along with them (Edan’s his closest friend among them) but because he doesn’t like being tied down by their rules. Humans fascinate him and he’s always seeking knowledge on how they function and evolve, and he’s sorta inherited their mischief, always getting into trouble with people. But that’s just because he’s playful! Being a very curious and energetic person, he easily falls into misunderstandings, and also enjoys playing pranks on people lol

Astraeus is a really calm and laid back person, but with Albion they’re kinda strict--they pretty much act like a parental figure lmao and Albion HATES it. Astraeus kinda treats him like a kid, mostly because they don’t believe Albion is capable of understanding just how important of a being he is, being a god of this world, and it frustrates them. They’re quite protective of all of their Grandmaster allies, especially Albion since they know he attracts trouble and will disobey them no matter what they say. Albion’s constantly just like “Go away” and Astraeus is like “If I don’t keep an eye on you, who knows what will happen” so they’re just constantly arguing. Family squabble. Mkdmasdas

Ikaia Belcour Age: 23 Hair color: Blonde (very subtle pink gradient at the bottom) Eye color: Pinkish-red Element: Water

Ikaia is my newest baby...I would and can die for him...he’s a good soft boy that doesn’t allow any bullshit and pretty much does whatever he can to achieve his goals. He’s also trans!!

He actually met Albion when he was 8 years old, after finding him collapsed in some bushes outside his house--apparently Albion had irritated some of the boys in town and gotten into a fight with them (but of course, he pulled his punches, letting them get out their anger and trying not to inflict too much damage). Ikaia then tended to his wounds and started asking all sorts of questions. Albion found him immensely entertaining. When Albion asked for his name, Ikaia hesitated because he didn’t like the name he was born with--so Albion gave him the name Ikaia, and he’s stuck with it ever since!

Albion stays around town for a little while, and he slowly starts getting attached to Ika along the way. Ikaia, being the youngest of a large family, is ostracized by them, especially since they’re all gifted with elemental abilities and can use them brilliantly while he fails to master his powers of water. The only person who really cares for him is his older sister, but it’s hard for her to protect him when everyone else is essentially out to get him. Ikaia tells Albion he dreams of running away and being free from the ties of his family, and doesn’t have to put up with their misgendering and bad treatment of him. Ikaia excitedly suggests traveling with Albion, who sorta just goes with the flow and travels to wherever, being the adventurous type he is (which is smth Ikaia dreams of doing), and Albion jokingly says maybe he can one day.

By mistake Albion realizes that Ikaia’s elemental gifts lie more on the side of ice rather than just water--as elementals tend to specialize in different fields of their element, down to specific battle styles and practical uses. Once Ikaia discovers that he’s able to control his ability EASILY--he realizes he’s better at freezing things, developing a knack for it right away! Albion trains him a bit and teaches him a few Grandmaster tricks that only he knows. Ikaia excitedly goes home to show off to his family--they are proud at first, but immediately turn around and start using Ikaia for his powers, which makes him miserable. They also start noticing Ikaia hanging around Albion, which they find VERY suspicious, and punish Ikaia for meeting with him. Albion feels immensely guilty for getting Ikaia in trouble, and even worse, a very furious Astraeus shows up and berates Albion for interacting with humans, fearing that the secret of his Grandmaster status might leak.

Astraeus threatens to erase Ikaia’s memory of Albion, to which Albion protests, saying it isn’t fair to erase all the happy moments they had together just to preserve their secret. (Also they’d have to get Valdis to come do that who is like halfway across the world anyway.) Because of how close Ikaia and Albion had become, Astraeus says they won’t erase the child’s memory, but that Albion has to leave town and never look back, and forbids him from ever seeing Ikaia again lest Ikaia realizes that Albion’s immortal. At this point Albion’s been driven into a corner and can’t really oppose that decision, so he goes along with it, reluctantly, because he’d actually wanted to see the type of person Ikaia would grow up to be.

Finally, Albion resolves to leave town. Ikaia is absolutely distraught, of course, not wanting to lose the only friend he has, and the person who’s taught him so much. Albion tearfully says he’ll come back one day, and Ikaia makes him promise to take him with on a journey across Kishuniia and show him everything he knows once he’s grown up and mature enough for the journey :’) Ofc this is a lie but Ikaia doesn’t know that;;

Years after Albion has left, Ikaia becomes stronger and trains more often to master his elemental abilities--and also lashes out more frequently against his family. At this point, he’s become a bitter sort of person, under his family’s control and the promise that Albion never came back to fulfill. His sister gives him encouragement but Ikaia tells her there’s no point in believing in lies, that Albion had probably just been humoring his childish fantasy. Still though, he finally leaves home at age 16--sick of his parents and siblings’ manipulation, he starts traveling around and participating in tournaments to hone his skills.

And then, 15 years after Albion had left--Ikaia is in his early 20s at this point, and has become a renowned champion of local tournaments, going under the name “Ruka” because he doesn’t feel super comfortable using his actual name, especially because of how important it is to him, being the one big reminder of Albion he has. People refer to him as the “Frigid Prince” because of his use of ice and his cold personality lol. It’s at one of these tournaments that Albion stumbles upon him again, completely by accident 👀 Ikaia is shocked to see him from the audience and almost loses his match but he uses his irritation at Albion to win lol. He honestly thinks it was just a hallucination for a while, but he runs into Albion again outside of town--who had been avoiding meeting him--and just. Shit hits the FAN LMAO. Ikaia is absolutely FURIOUS at Albion for breaking his promise, and ofc is very confused as to why Albion still looks exactly the same. Albion refuses to reveal his identity as a Grandmaster, since he knows the truth would put Ikaia in danger with both Astraeus and any other humans looking to take advantage of them. But it becomes clear to Ikaia that Albion definitely doesn’t age, and probably isn’t human like he’d assumed--and he realizes that was the reason Albion never came back, and slowly but surely forgives him. (He’s still irritated for a long time after tho lmao)

With that said, Albion’s finally able to fulfill his promise and take Ikaia with him on a journey :’D They do a lot of catching up and they spar against each other occasionally, tho most of the time it ends in a draw since Albion’s afraid of hurting Ikaia despite the fact that Ika’s definitely strong enough to handle his blows lol. To Albion, Ikaia feels like an entirely different person, and it takes him a while to adapt to how snarky he’s become, and slowly begins to realize that Ikaia definitely doesn’t smile as much as he used to when he was a kid. (He then starts blaming himself for this drastic change in his friend, wondering if Ikaia’s become such a bitter person because of Albion’s “abandonment” of him.)

It takes a long time for Ikaia to finally start opening up to Albion, but when he does, and when he finally discovers Albion’s status as a Grandmaster--he resolves to protect Albion no matter what, and even stands up to Astraeus and challenges them to a fight in order to prove he’s worthy enough as a human being to stand by Albion’s side :’) Before this Ikaia had kinda been going through life without any real purpose, only wanting to get stronger without knowing why--but when Albion crashes back into his life again, he realizes that Albi’s been the driving force behind everything he’s done in his life, and finally knows what he wants to do from then on out. Seeing Ikaia stand up to Astraeus moves Albion tremendously, and that’s when he starts Catching Feels >:3c (It also doesn’t help that Ika looks REALLY good in thigh highs. Albion’s very weak for them fnadkald)

Ikaia’s pretty popular with his fans--especially the girls, who find him to be very handsome and charming with his cold and quiet demeanor--and Ikaia’s ignorance of them usually makes them freak out over him more lmao he just can’t avoid it :’D He doesn’t really care about fame particularly, and is disinterested in the affairs of his peers in the tournaments, but he does appreciate the support he gets! He’s a very careful battler and strategist, preferring to think first before charging in, while Albion is the exact opposite lmao. Being so cold and calculating gives him an air of arrogance, but he’s not like that, not at all! Deep down he’s still the excited, kind child he used to be, and he still really looks up to Albion a lot and is inspired by him! He likes teasing Albion a lot; they’ll get into friendly arguments and bicker over silly things. Ika thinks Albion’s an idiot despite being an all-powerful immortal being and sorta appoints himself as a babysitter for Albion under Astraeus’ instructions and Albion’s fury at that lol. Ikaia teaches him a lot about the human world, what humans are like, and how they function--which is something Albion’s always been extremely interested in.

They do fall in love, eventually! But it takes a long time because Albion’s never developed feelings for a human before, due to their lifespans being so short and him never being super attached to any of them in particular. He’s curious about them and he likes them, but human lives are fleeting and fragile, so he doesn’t really allow himself to get really close with any out of fear of losing them. After he starts getting closer to Ikaia he becomes very...overprotective of him, and worries constantly about his health and his state of being, and nags at him to be more careful when he gets hurt. Eventually Ikaia snaps back at him and tells him to stop coddling him and acting like a mother hen lmao. He does understand Albion’s fear, as Ikaia feels the same, worried that someone will take Albion away and try to use him against his will, and does his best to reassure him...!

A long time later when they finally get the balls to confess to each other, Albion pleads for Astraeus to let Ikaia become an immortal (who had already considered his options and decided yeah, spending an eternity with Albion would be really nice), and Astraeus, having seen how important they are to each other and viewing Ikaia as Albion’s only true friend, grants him immortality!! (Which they can easily do, being the Grandmaster of Time, Space AND Stars--) And then, Albi and Ika begin their eternity together. Insufferable partners to the end. LMAO

There’s this whole thing where people do eventually find out about Albion and there’s a huge battle arc where they fight to get him back and he turns into a raging demon and unlocks his Grandmaster Destruction Powers or something after Ikaia gets hurt and. Yeah. That’s a story for another time LOL

WHEW sorry that got long but that’s the gist of it!! I love my boys very much and would lay my life on the line for them, yessir

[Below Cut: How to get positivity with Pluto in 12H 🌑 ]

You might want to do some self-reflection, I feel like with Pluto in 12H for me, it has to come from inner peace with myself first

It’s kinda weird to say this, but most of the problem I have with it is feeling things and admitting to myself that intense emotional expression is ok and a normal part of life. As I go through them (usually alone, in bed, thinking about what I’ve done in the past/who I am) I get better and better with re-affirming myself and being ok with change/things that are out of my control now.

Self-acceptance is hard, but only through learning to grow and accept that things are just phrases in your life. Have a beginning, experience, ending/closure to it. And is something that you cannot ultimately control (and only do your best during those situation) will you feel more at ease and have a clearer vision of how to accept it in the future.

Basically, it helps ‘clear the minds eyes’ towards future possibilities of Pluto in 12H not dragging you down in the future. Instead of letting it twirl you like a roller coaster all the time– try to be more open-hearted and understanding, and to do that you’ll have to try some self-acceptance.

I do this through words of affirmation, like ‘its ok’ or ‘its alright’ or ‘that’s ok’ or ‘that’s alright’

Sometimes its a lil more than that, like ‘this happened, but it made you grow from it.’ or ‘what did you learn from this? what can you use in the future?’

It’s self-regeneration, but also transformative. It’s asking you to take control and find peace with yourself. Only through finding peace with your inner core will you be more focused on actually learning/accepting Pluto’s lessons.

Find strength in yourself that is not attached to your ego/core self, and learn how to take lessons that will be good for you (external lessons).

Basically, if you can put yourself in a ‘Namjoon Mood’ with his introspection/retrospection sometimes— you’ll be better adapted to change/shift with your Pluto in 12H too (imo)

At least for me, I feel like there’s a lot now that I can look forward to instead of guarding myself/fearing. There are problems I can identify with my own Moon because it’s opposition to Pluto. I feel like the aspect it makes to other things on your chart, will get clearer for you to pick out and see the good/bad you can cut/edit out as well – as you grow more into your Pluto.

Ahh also, don’t use Pluto demotivate you. Use your ‘physically demotivated’ time productively. Let yourself ask hard hitting questions about you, and let yourself get frustrated. Only by confronting a ‘wall’ and actually ‘touching it’ somewhat— you will get steps closer to learning how to take it apart brick by brick as well

EDIT: AH one of the thing I found really helpful, was imagining it as like a summer camp. I imagine like an old counseling teacher lady who maybe have seen/talked to me around, she has her own life. Her own things to think about and do (like an old professor who’s constantly writing their next piece of work/thesis).

Although the interactions might’ve been awkward/flustering to me, it made her smile and she feels delighted. It’s a small moment in her life, a memory that ends along with the summer camp and she’ll move on. But it’s associated to the memory of that camp– and maybe it can be good for others, even if you’re embarrassed/constantly agonizing over it yourself.

My car, Sheila, is a stick shift. I’ve been dirving stick since I was 19. My dad taught me and I got it down within a day. The hardest part is stopping/going on a hill.

My favorite color is blue, but I love the darker shades of blue. They speak to me. (And they also taste good no matter what it is).

I’m 30, but I look half my age. At least according to everybody. It’s a curse. And don’t give me that, “but that’s good~”.

I won a Xbox One X from Taco Bell last year. I’m just as surprised as you are. I’m gonna try and see if I can win the white one this year, lol.

My Steam queue and game queue in general? It’s outrageous.

I served in the military (Air Force). I fixed radio equipment and antennas.

For almost 3 years because I have really bad shins.

I lived in Germany when I was 2months - 4 years old. I don’t remember any of it, but we have a lot of pictures.

I got kicked out of a major university marching band because I was frustrated with a lot of things and I may have made a F-bomb laced post. (And I talked to the higher ups about stuff but they didn’t listen/did nothing about it). Someone snitched on me; still don’t know who did it. This was back when FB was college-only.

I played the clarinet from 6th grade up until that point. Should have taken up saxophone if I’m gonna be honest.

And then like a semester later, I flunked out.

When I make OCs, I put a lot of thought into them.

I had a tough love approach to making them, but I'm way gentler now. Mostly.

I tend to make them in pairs? Or eventually they end up being together, lol. I think one pair is married?? But they all tend to have old married couple traits, I think. They *clearly* love each other.

I would make them in TS4, but I forgot what they look like... 😟

I'm 5'0.

I powerlift! Which is *very* different from Olympic Weightlifting! And bodybuilding is completely unrelated to both!

I don't look the part though. Powerlifting brings all sorts of body types.

I've been competing in the 84kg weight class for 3 years, and counting.

I've won 1 1st place, and 3 2nd place medals.

My total right now is about 610lbs for all three lifts. I've got a ways to go to start competing on regionals/nationals.

I have a meet on Saturday and I'm super nervous about it, lol.

I'm single, not sure how to mingle, and at this point... kinda don't want to?

I started making poses because a lot of poses didn't fit my boys/very slim pickings and hardly nothing spicy wise, and I could never find anything super specific that I wanted.

I pretty much learned on my own through a LOT of practice with the Pose Helper. There was like one tutorial using the pose helper, and that was it. Lots of trial and error. If you really want to go through it, go through my ts4 pose wip tag. Like alllll the way back. It was a rocky start.

I do the NSFW/spicy poses in cycles. Basically, when the mood strikes me. I'm not sure what theme I'm gonna go with for the next one though. I've been wanting to do some stripper poses, but also light bondage or something. Hmm...🤔

I do enjoy making them, but 😳

My favorite pose set is probably Bare Knuckle because, at the time, the most complex thing I made and I'm super proud of it. The idea of fighting a literal demon just... came up lol. I am considering doing another Muay Thai centered pose set, but pic refs are hard to come by. The one I used for BK deactivated :(

I use a lot of refs. It's very okay to use refs! Sometimes I have to adjust them to accommodate male frames.

I have a weighted blanket and it's fantastic and if you're able to get one, I SUPER recommend it.

I used to play DDR. Like, an absurd amount of it, allll the way back when Max2/Extreme came out. Now? I play when I can.

Not as good as I used to be, stamina wise, but I still get ridiculously high grades/marksbn on songs. The highest difficulty rating I was at when I peaked was 16s. That's out of a 20 scale. Now? I'm lucky to clear a 13/14. There's a HUGE skill difference.

I have trouble verbalizing things in general. When I'm writing/typing, I'm fine. But speaking?? Forget it.

I am a naturally quiet person, which tends to unnerve a lot of people? I just don't have much to say on a lot of things.

People tell me some wild shit, but uh, I forget because I have a shitty memory and attention span.

I really do love making poses, yall. Even on days where I'm feeling crummy, I try and do one pose. Don't matter what it is.

Every time I get a message saying that my posts/cc brightens someone's day, it makes my whole damn week. Thank you for nice words. my birthday is in november!! november 23 to be specific. i share it with miley cyrus which is something i always found to be very cool when i was growing up and watching hannah montana. it also means i am a sagittarius and funny little fact i realized is that my best friend is a gemini. alex and jack are also a sagittarius and a gemini. from being 13 i know that tyler and josh from twenty one pilots are also a sagittarius and a gemini. something about sagittarius and gemini besties idk.

also yeah!! ao3 year in review!! it's a bit complicated to figure out at first and if you read a lot the finding pages thing can be pretty tedious, but it's def worth it once you figure it out. it gives you a lot of different stats about everything you read and it's pretty cool. now i am going to go look at your fics to remember my favs. you deserve the praise so i am willing to offer it. jeez you write a lot i respect the motivation sm. you write quite a bit of angst and i won't lie i try to stay away from angst so i haven't read your fics that seem super angst-y based on the tags. BUT there are still so many i recall reading and loving nonetheless. on a quick scroll-through: i usually don't read high school AUs but "paint me in trust (i'll be your best friend)" was super adorable and lovely. waterparks!! will not lie i only really started listening to them about 6 months ago having been distantly aware of their existence for several years by being a fan of bands in the same genre. listen as long as you let yourself be vaguely annoyed by awsten is prevents you from being in love with him. follow him on any social media platform for like a day and you'll be sick of him typing in nothing but all caps within hours. simply do not romanticize him and you can keep yourself from falling!! so this is coming from a slightly fake parx fan, but some of my favs by them have been peach (lobotomy), crave, numb, fuzzy, violet!, you'd be paranoid too, and lowkey as hell. that is a very songs-from-their-most-recent-album-heavy rec, but whatever. i did give the disclaimer about being a fake parx fan.

yeah hayley does have 2 solo albums now!! petals for armor and flowers for vases / descansos. pfa is the one i didn't really like upon first listen but has grown on me. i haven't even listened to the second one in its entirety oops but we won't mention it. dead horse is good but simmer (pretty sure that was the other single??) just ain't it for me. the album has some lovely songs but it's just a hit or miss album all the way through. some favs of mine on it include pure love, taken, crystal clear, watch me while i bloom, and why we ever. it's sorta a storyline album about healing if that adds anything to it?? but anyways. i started listening to paramore around the time after laughter dropped and it grew to be one of my fav albums in existence. idle worship is probably one of my fav songs like ever. i def understand being slightly put off by bands with songs that make religious references (me with twenty one pilots' earlier music that makes a lot more religious references considering i'm not religious whatsoever) but i think i am blinded by being in love with hayley williams and just ignore it. idk that she's like super religious?? she's addressed believing in god and stuff a few times but she's def not the "rub it in your face" type and if she's making refs in music more recently then they're subtle enough i'm not noticing them. ik albums like brand new eyes had a lot more because it was shortly after that the band split and the songwriting process was essentially her and ex-bandmate co-songwriter arguing about their religious beliefs (turns out he ended up being super homophobic and transphobic all based on his religion so do with that what u will and thank the clown for leaving). i feel u on the "i meant to start listening to them" because that's essentially how i started listening to them. i told myself i was going to and then finally forced myself to do it. fuck falling for awsten knight what's more risky is falling in love with hayley </3

also yeah!! you've articulated my feelings towards tde. every song is so vastly different that it's hard to like it all. #1 fan is pretty decent though, and that's not just my bias about finding both ross and his gf hot and a cute couple and getting to see them together and ross half naked in a mirror in the video nope not at all. he's my fav himbo!! he has no personality!! no thoughts head empty!! i still love him and his strawberry-growing saga on twitter tho <3 the hazard of being in love with ross lynch since i was 12. girlfriend better be a fucking banger and there's quite a few already released singles in the tracklist so i have hope. i believe my show is in chicago on november 19 which is a thursday. kinda sucks since i intentionally bought the chicago tix nearly two years ago (the show was originally supposed to be april 25 2020. lol.) because the show was on a saturday and i have to drive 3 hours to get there. obviously i can't speak for them as tde but r5 shows always fucking slapped and i can vouch for them (realized i haven't seem them live since 2016?? 5 YEARS?? wtf) so if u genuinely like them. would recommend going to see them.

Weapon Design final update

Wrapping up the project, I am just going to review the mid level and high level modes compared to the concepts. My take on the low level 3d render is explained in the previous post.

My thoughts on Mid Level

The gun looks fantastic, there is great clarity in the detailing. They all seem well balanced with one another, such as the wires in the middle, dual gears on the right, the pipe clamped by an arc of bolts and the red cable give just enough accent to complement the center piece dome.

There are visible changes from the concept art, like - the colours in 3D look like rusty copper instead of polished gold, we swapped the valve in exchange for a scope, and no light bulbs on the handle.

However, I understand the changes were necessary as Lukas states the removed elements doesn’t look right in first person view,. As I realized in hindsight, not having an fps angle is actually a detriment to the design of a gun, as most gun games in this era are first person shooters in some form or another.

High Level Concept Art

My thoughts on High Level

Again, amazing work by Lukas to retain the overall shape and styling of the gun. All the details in the concept has been preserved in 3D, you can see the individual bolts on the the lines, groves running across the gun, bits where the happen on top and the most impressively; looking the leather on the handle, it’s almost exactly as I had imagined in my concept art, I feared it might not have been conveyed properly due to a lack of shading, but he managed to get it looking really good, like a real stitched leather handle.

The colours are still darker than the concept art, but I would assume reusing the same materials as the previous guns would help a lot of speed up the process as I understand he had a lot of work on the side.

Final Thoughts

The project’s main goal was to figure out (practically) how ‘much’ concept art is needed when passing the design to 3D Modelers. I tried to answer that question using my concept artwork and with the help of Lukas (3D Modeler). Here is some of the notable things I can say -

Environment

As we weren’t working in a studio environment, it’s hard say how much this would affect the project. Communicating in person could have speed the production and ensure a well rounded final piece. We discussed the work through text and luckily for the most part, we had a good read on each other’s work. In the long run for tight creative project/games, I think there are more merits to talking in person.

Perspective from a 3D artist.

'So it was a little bit stressful but only because I had like 3 other things on at the same time, but the actual making part was really fun yeah. For the first concept it was really good because it allowed me to have a lot of creative freedom, but it did take a little longer because I had to do alot of reference gathering, but I also feel like if you gave this to someone without any design experience they would really struggle with it.

The second one was good and really easy to follow but personally I didn't really like the overall design, I thought it was a little bit too cubey so I didn't enjoy it as much, and the first person view was really needed because after following the other views the first person didn't look great, and the third concept was amazing, great design and very easy to understand in 3d, only small thing was the animation ref didn't quiet make sense when I started to make it in 3d, I did do it last minute tho so I didn't get a chance to ask you about it’ - Lukas

What I’ve learnt

The biggest lesson I learnt from this project was how concept art is situational dependent. Like for example, concept art for a gun game needs fps angles for the guns because it sells the in-game look to the team. Concept art for mobile games is all about eye candy, because the players have shorter span. Triple AAA’s need complex world building, Movies need highly detailed illustrations to sell to producers and so on. Different fields need different things from a concept artist.

What is effective concept art to hand over to a competent 3D Artist? my findings are:

1. For low value props, a 3 quarter profile (Clear line work + good render) + Ref board

2. For mid value props, a 3 quarter profile (Clear line work + good render) + Side and back profile (clear line work) + Ref board

3. For high value props, a 3 quarter profile (Clear line work + full render) + Side & back profile (good render) + in-game profile + Mechanic/animation explained in a separate sheet.

So, what do I mean by that?

This gets some people very het up, but it’s hard to deny that the relationship of the Winchester men, post-Mary, was a pretty weird one. As I’ve talked about before, I don’t believe that John was 100% evil and abusive–that’s reductive to the point of being nonsensical–but he also clearly wasn’t 100% great at being a father, either. The reasons for that are many and varied, but the end results are the same: the relationships inside the Impala were not normal, and that does things to the people involved.

So, a few terms that are useful, especially when talking about the Winchesters. Covert incest, per Wikipedia, is “a style of parenting in which a parent looks to their child for the emotional support that would be normally provided by another adult.” It’s not sexual, but it does pervert the parent-child relationship. Another important thing to look at is parentification, which is closely related to covert incest, which Wikipedia describes here:

Two distinct modes of parentification have been identified technically: instrumental parentification and emotional parentification. Instrumental parentification involves the child completing physical tasks for the family, such as looking after a sick relative, paying bills, or providing assistance to younger siblings that would normally be provided by a parent. Emotional parentification occurs when a child or adolescent must take on the role of a confidant or mediator for (or between) parents or family members.

Who does that sound like.

One of the things that makes the Winchesters interesting (and one of the things that makes John not a complete villain) is that, first, this wasn’t intentional, on John’s part. The deep need for revenge blinded him, and the importance of finding Mary’s killer superseded any other concerns. Okay, not a good father, but also not evil. There’s a level of nuance here. It’s also true that, most of the time, Dean and Sam interact like brothers, and John treats them both (as far as we can see) as his subordinates/sons. However, when John fails at that–when he lets Dean pick up the slack of running the household, and when he relies on Dean for emotional support (e.g.: I’d come home from a hunt, and after what I’d seen, I’d be, I’d be wrecked. […] You’d say, “It’s okay, Dad.”)–he is committing both of the sins above, and that, in turn, does something to Dean.

Very early in childhood, Dean starts to be in charge of feeding Sam (instrumental parentification, per the above), and he runs interference between Sam and their father and tries to make the household run smoothly (emotional parentification). John relies on him for support. Dean cleans the guns (the most important tools of their household), and cooks, and provides a listening ear, and takes care of the people around him. In many ways, he’s filling the role of the mother, and specifically of John’s wife, inside the family unit. Obviously he’s brother and son, too, but he’s straddling the line–when this amount of responsibility and care is placed on his shoulders, he can’t ever just be a kid, or just be an annoying big brother. Sam and John also both waver on how they treat him–Sam sometimes taking him for granted as the source of household comfort (something all mothers recognize, I’ll bet) even as they play pranks on each other; John letting him take the bulk of the spousal, household duties (the husband not doing his share, anyone?) even as he scolds and teaches fatherly lessons.

So, when I see stuff like this:

I see a worried big brother, sure. I also see Sam’s (effective) mother. Now, it should be clear that there’s a lot of nuance, here–the Winchesters wouldn’t be interesting, otherwise! But it’s specifically the way these lines are straddled, and fought against, and then the times the characters go so far over them it’s outrageous–that’s what is really fascinating, to me. In the Oedipus story, the son kills his father, and marries his mother. Clearly the Winchesters aren’t a 1:1–Sam holds back from shooting John, even if it’s only because Dean begs–but there’s certainly a nice parallel to be drawn, isn’t there? (And once the father is out of the way, Dean’s loyalty swings entirely toward Sam–and then, eight years later, they make a promise, in a church. Isn’t that… interesting. At least Sam hasn’t put his eyes out. [Though there are further parallels to be drawn there, re: his guilt and fear over the years, hm?])

With all of this said: I don’t think I can be blamed for my fascination with the Full House of Wincest.

I’m gonna review a manga even tho it’s an animation blog cause I’ve read something I thought had a cool concept, and like an idiot had hopes, just to be left deeply disappointed and upset. So I’m gonna rant till I feel better!

It’s called shishunki bitter change and is one of the popular “genderbend” manga that usually goes like: girl and boy of high school age fall or bump into each other and realize they now switched bodies!

That seems fun and all but in general the girl is the only serious/mature one while the guy is a dumbass and a pervert and the first thing he’s gonna do in the girl’s body is touch her boobs or look at her naked. They also usually find a way to go back to normal but still decide to change from time to time because why not.

The cool concept this one manga I’m gonna talk about has, compared to the usual format, is that boy and girl meet and change place in elementary school. Way too early for the gross jokes. And also, they don’t find a way to change back and have to live as each other from now on. We follow them for years, until high school. Which leave them for 6 years dealing with this uncomfortable situation.

So I thought it was gonna be great! We won’t see the usual boring tropes of the genre, it will feel fresh, and we’ll get to follow them as they’re growing up! How difficult it may be, and shit.

Of course, I was wrong!

Instead we got very bad writing (and bad art but that would have been fine if, you know, the story had been good) that don’t even try to touch the most important elements of their lives or just gloss over it so fast you’re left feeling like it wasn’t talked about at all.

We start with these two 10 years old kids who play in the park till boy fall on girl and next time they open their eyes, you know it, they switched body. Of course they panic and try to re-do the fall in hope they’ll switch again so everything goes back to normal. But it doesn’t work.

Since they don’t know what else to do and it’s getting late they have to go home and decide to just pretend they’re each other for a day, then meet again the nest day and fix this thing somehow. Till now this thing works, it’s believable, it’s just the first few pages.

Boy in girl’s body go back to an abusive home where the dad is almost never here and the mom just don’t pay attention to her child. The boy was lucky enough to have a nice and warm family so the change is quite a shock. I MEAN to me the reader it was, but to him it’s just “ah ok” reaction and he’s more upset about having strict rules to follow. It’s still fine, he’s a kid that as far as he know only need to pretend for a night.

Girl in boy’s body live the opposite. She comes back to a lovely family with an attentive mom and a little brother who wants to play together. She’s more impressed by the food than anything else and the weird thing is the lil bro is the only one who realize something is weird. He ask where his real brother is and the girl tells him they’re playing a game and his bro will come back if he keeps the secret.

I would... Love to talk about it. If it had been brought up again, and if it had made sense too. It’s implied the brother knows and remember the person in his brother’s body isn’t his actual brother... But he also doesn't seem to care about it! Remember that they stay 6 years stuck like this? Damn, that’s a long game to play. If I was 6 of age and my nice older brother disappeared one day and I only got a clone of him with a weird personality I wouldn’t have kept my mouth shut about it for years! I would have cried to my mom about it or something! it’s upsetting!

The first problem is that. These young kids are never shown to be upset about it. Really upset I mean. It’s a strange and scary situation they don’t know how to deal with. And they’re only mildly inconvenienced.

It’s just not realistic. This would happen to me today I would panic, like, bad. I don’t want to ever be stuck in someone else body. Someone being in my body and using it however they want is the scenario of actual nightmares I have from time to time. So if this happened when I was 10? I would have cried just at the idea of pretending being someone’s else in front of this person parents and sleeping in a stranger’s house.

Yea, because the two kids aren’t even friends to begin with! They’re classmates that rarely talk to each other. Being stuck in your friend’s body? Might be fun for half an hour. In an almost stranger’s body? Not fun for even a minute!

And we... Directly jump in time. Something like a year in the future. One year they pretended to be each other and no one but the lil bro that don’t care about it so much found out.

These two have completely opposite personalities. And the parents just don’t realize. The girl’s parents, sure, they’re abusive and don’t pay attention to her, it’s already been said. I’m not surprised about it. But the boy’s mom just think “wow you’re so mature now”. Like. If your kid completely change personality in one day something seriously wrong happened. Of course she’s not gonna think it’s something supernatural but she should be wondering if it’s related to school or something. Anything! The parents are either idiots or the author just didn’t want to spent time on it.

At some point the two kids decide to confess their situation to a friend, who decide to believe them. That’s the only person they tell for 6 years.

I still don’t buy that kids would keep such a secret for that long, it’s neither realistic nor smart. In this situation you would want to ask for help. Even if the adults don’t believe you talking about it is still the best thing to do.

... Well at least they have one (1) friend they trust with it, better than nothing.

It’s also shown that girl in dude and that friend spend time together at the library to find books about people in the same situation as they are, to, you know, find a way to go back. But again that’s literally just one scene and we never talk about it again.

There’s so many short scenes that talk about important things and then, bye to that I guess, you’ll never see it again, there won’t be any sort of resolution to it.

So, now they’re in middle school and the most important (at least you think) part of the manga that is right there in the title is finally talked about: puberty!

Girl in dude is growing up and starting to look more manly and she’s panicking mildly about it cause deep down she’s a girly girl and she miss her body and wearing skirts. Dude in girl just had his first period and somehow thought he was gonna die instead of realizing what it was (which they studied at school), and ok I’m not gonna laugh about that because honestly RELATABLE. Of course you freak out the first time you see so much blood. He get really upset about it, mostly the pain, and having to go thought this every month.

And you know whaaaaaat? It’s never brought up again! Something that clearly deeply upset them, we get one scene of it and bye forever!

I’m not gonna talk about the next scene for long cause it’s so badly written it’s just whatever at this point. Remember how boy in girl live in an abusive family? Well he start yelling at the parents one day, telling them they suck, and magically they’re nice afterward.

Take notes people: that’s how you deal with that kind of shit! Yell at your abusers and instead of being ever more badly abused like you’d think would happen, they’ll suddenly become nice cause that exactly how the world works.

This review is so long already and there’s still so much to say... I’ll finish a bit abruptly, sorry.

In the end, the manga isn’t as refreshing or interesting I first thought it would be. All the important part are randomly throw super fast at you, there’s no character grow, nothing is realistic even tho the author tries so hard to make it look like it.

And of course it gets vaguely transphobic and homophobic even tho those are subjects you should seriously talk about if you want to realistically make such a scenario. It’s mostly jokes about how girl in boy want to wear skirts, in the body she’s in right now, but the true owner of said body refuse to let her do it cause it would make him look like a transvestite and that’s gross right? Also when it comes to having a crush they have to keep it the romance straight but in those bodies (how they’re viewed by others) it’s a bit hard. Girl in dude tries to becomes friend with a girl in her class who sees her as a boy and falls in love. Which makes her uncomfortable. There’s also a boy later on who falls in love of her, as he sees her, so as a boy. Of course it’s just vague enough that the author doesn’t need to address it and make it clear that, yeah, that’s gay folks. Cause we don’t want that in our manga.

In the end what I hate most is that nothing change. Again, no character grow. They spent 6 years in each other bodies and still believe they’ll find a way to change back without realizing that... Even if they do.

It won’t be the same.

It was their body till they were 10. They’re now 16 and almost done with puberty. If they go back now they won’t recognize their body, it would take so long to get used to it. Not even touching on having to go back to their original family who should realize it if they suddenly completely change personality AGAIN? Accepting the fact that the parents are idiots and won’t realize it, after 6 years they’ll be strangers. And the friends they made along the way sure won’t be friend with a total different person like it’s normal.

In this situation, accepting that the 10 y/o kids never told anyone but that one friend about their situation and all that bullshit, there’s still a point where they’ll should grow accustomed to the body they’re in and accept it as theirs.

But because they don’t, because the author doesn’t know how to write, they’re mentally stuck and haven’t grow at all. They can’t think of the future. They have only two more years of high school before choosing a path in life in case they never go back, and they refuse to think about it.

The manga may get a satisfying enough ending but I’m not interested in reading it since nothing make sense and all the important point are always ignored.

kurofai pokemon!au? kurofai pokemon!au.

fai and yuui come from a small, bustling town north of snowpoint city. sure, it has its problems with blizzards and strong winds, but overall a friendly town. the twins are just like any other kids living there, always playing in the snow with the local wild pokemon until they're old enough to become trainers.

one day a particularly powerful blizzard hits hard. no one thinks much of it (after all, that's the price you pay for living so close to mt. coronet) until an absol quietly appears after the storm subsides. some of the older townspeople, superstitious bunch that they are, scare it away, fearing it'll bring disaster down on them. absol vanishes but not before the twins see how it was mistreated for no reason other than its designation as the "disaster pokemon". they dress in their warmest clothes and slip out after absol, trudging through snow nearly half their height, to try and find it and apologize for the townspeople's behavior.

what no one realizes is absol sensed an avalanche and appeared to warn them to stay away from the mountains. the same mountains it calls home and that the twins were heading to.

though they've explored the path a million times over, the twins get lost in the white out conditions. even the pokemon they're befriended are nowhere to be seen. they call for help. no response. just as they give up and retrace their steps and head home, a rumble in the distance sounds and they run off to find shelter.

they find a small cave and huddle together for what seems like eternity until a blast of fire melts and clears the snow in front of the entrance. standing there are absol, along with a delphox and cryogonal and a man they recognize from watching his battles on tv. ashura, the snowpoint gym leader. it's then that they learn their first of many lessons from him. "always have a fire-type when in snowy conditions."

he helps them return home, clearing the path with delphox's flames and cryogonal helping navigate the path. ashura explains that he'd been doing some training in the area when absol found him and practically dragged him to where the twins were hiding. as they make their way back absol refuses to leave the twins' side, despite its loner demeanor. fai and yuui quickly grow fond of it as well.

once they're home again, absol continues to hang around and fai decides it'll be his first pokemon. the poor thing was misunderstood and needed a trainer who would love it unconditionally. before ashura leaves, the twins beg him to take them on as apprentices. he agrees once their parents give their consent, and their training begins. they visit the snowpoint gym several times a week, watching ashura battle, take care of pokemon, teach new trainers, everything that goes along with being a gym leader. when both twins decide to follow in his footsteps and specialize in ice-types, he helps yuui catch his first pokemon, a cubchoo.

the years pass. ashura takes them on travels with him to other regions to study their pokemon and catch more of their own. at one point they take a year off from training with him to take on sinnoh's pokemon league challenge and eventually meet him in battle for his badge. the battle is far from easy but they manage to scrape together wins. as ashura presents them with their badges, he offers them one more thing: to take on the role of gym leaders after the lily of the valley conference. he's getting on in years and wants to pass his gym down to worthy trainers. needless to say they agree.

a year after they settle into their new role, fai has the itch to travel again. as much as he likes being a gym leader with his brother, going out and exploring the world is an experience he feels like he hasn't gotten enough of yet. yuui assures him that he and beartic, his ace, can hold down the gym until they return, so off fai goes.

meanwhile, kurogane, fresh from a victory at the johto league silver conference heads to sinnoh to challenge their gyms next. he and his pokemon travel solo until one day they stumble upon fai and absol. fai, hanging upside down by his ankles in a tree, the unassuming victim of a trap someone had set to prank travelers with, and absol judging fai hard for falling for it. kurogane reluctantly helps him down (can't blame him for thinking anyone careless enough to fall out of a trap should get out of it themselves, and damn does this guy seem like the pain in the ass type). fai thanks him waaaaay too cheerfully for kurogane's liking; kurogane demands a battle in return, which fai refuses ("I'm so weak, I won't be worth your time!") but insists on traveling with him instead to keep him company. kurogane nopes the fuck away. fai follows along anyway, chatting the entire way (making that vein in kurogane's forehead throb is too fun not to).

much to kurogane's horror, they end up traveling the region together (meeting and including syaoran and sakura along the way). every time anyone, whether it's someone from their group, or random trainers they run into, fai turns down every battle challenge, opting to ref the battles instead. kurogane only grows more and more suspicious of him: his pokemon look strong, even tho he's never seen them do anything more strenuous than play fighting, and he seems to have an affinity for ice types, save for absol and kanto!persian, not to mention his knowledge about all things pokemon. he isn't just a lazy weakling like he keeps insisting he is. whenever they reach a gym, he always finds some excuse to vanish until after the battles. every. single. time.

eventually they reach the snowpoint gym and kurogane (and syaoran) are eager for the challenge. they'd heard how strong the twin leaders of the gym are more than once during their journey and were looking forward to the battle. fai, predictably, disappears. gym leader yuui appears to introduce himself and greet his challengers, and the group's jaws collectively hit the floor. a few seconds later fai follows him out and kurogane is Pissed. He could have been!!! testing himself!!! against a gym leader!!! every single day!!! fai, being the shit he is, is Living and explains he wanted to travel as a normal trainer, not a gym leader, so he kept his identity secret. to make up for it, he finally agrees to the battle kurogane asked of him when they first met, but this time it's kurogane who refuses. nope. he wants to battle them both. fai owes him that much after the endless headaches he gave him. the twins are amused but they go for it: 2 vs 1 double battle it is. kurogane goes arcanine, lucario, aegislash, and greninja against yuui's beartic and vanilluxe, and fai's absol and aurorus. a hard battle later and kurogane has his badge. after syaoran's victory, which takes him a couple tries, the group gets ready to head out again, under the presumption that fai will stay behind with yuui. but as they're saying their goodbyes, fai has one more surprise in store and announces that he'll be tagging along again. who else will keep kurogane on his toes, after all??
