after eddie introduces a demogorgon to one of his hellfire campaigns, the kids get a little squirmy. they're nervously looking at each other and aren't engaging as excitedly as they usually do. when he calls time, he watches dustin rummage through his backpack and produce a walkie talkie.
he watches, a bit dumbfounded, as the kid demands a 'check-in'. all at once, multiple different voices come over the channel. stating a name and then saying 'safe.' ("nancy, safe." "robin, safe." "max, safe.")
"steve?" dustin demands. there's only static. "steve!" a little more frantic this time.
"he left to pick you up." a female voice replies, "he's probably fine. you'll see him soon."
none of the kids look particularly pleased, and pack up hastily. eddie and the other hellfire members all share confused glances. he, more morbidly curious than anything else, follows the little sheep as they hurry out of the school.
dustin is fucking restless as they all stand in the empty parking lot. he won't stay still and none of them are answering any of eddie's questions. and he only gets more confused when a brown beemer pulls in, windows down and playing depeche mode through the speakers. dustin goes to sprint towards it, and he has to hold him by the collar to stop him getting run over.
the beemer pulls up and steve harrington, in all his glory, steps out, frowning. dustin wrenches out of eddie's grip and all but bodies the guy, wrapping arms tightly around his midsection. steve, still looking puzzled, hugs back. lucas and mike trail after dustin.
"we called a check-in." dustin says, a bit muffled from where his face is smushed into steve's shirt. steve goes sort of pale, and- and presses a goddamn kiss to the top of henderson's head before tightening the hug.
"shit, i'm sorry." and eddie believes him. he sounds so guilty. "i meant to replace the batteries before i left. sorry, i'm okay." dustin pulls back and scrubs at his eyes. lucas takes his place, though the hug he gives is more like one of those bro-hugs jocks seem to love. steve smiles regardless. he just ruffles mike's hair, who pouts in response but looks relieved nonetheless.
"asshole." he mutters. "rule four, walkies on at all times." steve nods as the kid half-heartedly waves goodbye to eddie and hops in the backseat of the beemer. lucas follows. dustin seems reluctant to walk around the car, to take his eyes off steve for even a second.
"you wanna stay over tonight?" steve asks, warm and gentle. he folds his arms and in that moment eddie thinks they look sort of like brothers. "robin and me were gonna watch some films. we can call your mom from mine."
the kid nods, looking a bit happier. steve slaps him on the back and motions him to get in the car. dustin swivels to hug and say goodbye to eddie (who sort of forgot he was physically present in this moment) before doing as he was told.
steve turns to eddie. which- whew! hi pretty eyes.
"sorry." he smiles and eddie can't for the life of him figure out what he's apologising for. "they, uh- yeah. them." he gestures vaguely at the car and eddie just chuckles.
"hey, man, no worries." he says, a little breathless that he's having a conversation with the steve harrington. "they okay? never seen henderson look so rattled." steve nods, then seems to think better of it and just shrugs. cocks his hip to the side (stop fucking staring at his hips, munson, lord!)
"they will be." he glances back at the beemer, which is now full of childish bickering. pauses to think and then asks, "you using demogorgons in your campaign right now?"
eddie blinks at him. "yes? yeah. what the fuck- how do you know what that is? what-" steve just laughs.
"long story." there's a haunted look in his eyes before he continues, "just, uh- that's probably what upset them. demogorgons and us- them, i mean-" he waves his hand. "bad memories. hard to explain, but... if you could..." he doesn't need to ask, seems like he doesn't know how or even if he's allowed.
"got it, ill tweak the campaign." harrington smiles at him, something small and genuine, and murmurs a thanks. offers him a fucking lift, which eddie declines, motioning to his van. harrington just nods, tells him to get home safe and then clambers back into the car, yells at the kids to put seatbelts on with all the exasperation of a single dad, and pulls away.
eddie watches them go, having seen a side of harrington he'd thought dustin had been lying about. steve harrington, the caring babysitter, everyone's older brother, a changed man.
he starts escorting the kids to the parking lot more often.

Staking My Claim Part 5
We are almost done just one more after this one! I thought about posting this on Tuesday to give the first chapter of the second book of Boy With a Bat some love.
But with this one literally two chapters away from being finished it didn't seem fair to postpone this one.
Here we have Nurse Jeff and sweet Eddie.
Pt 1| Pt 2|Pt 3| Pt 4|
@mira-jadeamethyst @rozzieroos @itsall-taken @redfreckledwolf @emly03
***
Once they other three were gone Jeff turned to Steve and Eddie.
“Right the real reason I’m here is because I’m going to make you two don’t jump each other before Steve is well enough.”
Steve and Eddie looked at each other and blushed.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Jeff said, crossing his arms and leaning back on one foot.
“Eddie go get us some lunch and I’ll make sure Stevie here isn’t going to throw up again.”
Eddie nodded and grabbed his keys. He gave Steve a kiss on the cheek and dashed off, leaving Steve alone with Jeff.
Jeff turned on the light in the kitchen to better see Steve’s face. He held Steve’s chin and turned his head gently to the light and away from it.
“Your dilation is a little slow,” he said. “That’s not good.”
Steve nodded. “I’ve had concussions before. It feels a bit like that. The dizziness, the nausea, the pounding in my head.”
Jeff nodded. “I think I still have some anti-nausea medication and if I don’t, we can try some Pepto, okay?”
Steve nodded. “I wouldn’t have done anything,” he said softly.
Jeff raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“With Eddie,” he whispered. “Not before we got back to Hawkins, anyway.”
“Oh?”
Steve nodded again. “I’m bit too romantic for my own good. And having the chance I might ruin our first time with puking is the last thing I’d want.”
“First time?” Jeff asked over his shoulder as he went to the bathroom.
“I meant it when I licked him, he’s mine now.”
Jeff chuckled.
He came back out holding two bottles. “Looks like I have two kinds of anti-nausea meds. One is very heavy duty, so we’ll try the other one first. We don’t want to mix something heavier if the knock out drug is still in your system.”
Steve nodded.
“In fact,” Jeff muttered. “I should call my mom.”
He set the two bottles on the counter next to Steve and went to the phone.
After a brief conversation Jeff picked up the heavier medication. “She actually recommended the tougher meds to counter whatever was given to you. She even wants you to stop by on your way home so she can look you over.”
Steve blushed. “She doesn’t have to do that. I’ll be fine.”
Jeff raised an eyebrow and Steve ducked his head. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. My sister is a lot like you, you know.”
“Hmm?”
“She’s the oldest,” Jeff murmured, “so she was brought up that she had to take care of everyone else and couldn’t ask for help.”
“Oh.”
Jeff rubbed the top of his head. “Look, man. I get it, I really, really do. If your parents are as half the shit the rumor mill makes them out to be, you’ve been abandoned and neglected all your life. Somehow, someway you became the defacto older brother to the weirdest group of latchkey kids I’ve ever seen and you think you have to do everything for them because you didn’t get to have that. But thinking like that will only wear you down and out.”
“It’s hard,” Steve admitted. “They’ve been through so much.”
Jeff let out a sigh. “I get that too. You and those kids have been through some heavy ass shit. I also get that you think that because you’re the oldest you can’t tell them what you’re feeling because you don’t want to burden them.”
“You’re Robin and Nancy’s age,” Steve said quietly.
Jeff frowned, not quiet understanding the comment. Then it dawned on him. “Eddie isn’t.”
Steve’s head shot up. “What?”
“I know it’s hard to remember because he graduated with me and the other guys,” Jeff said. “But Eddie is older then you. He was supposed to graduate in ‘84.”
Steve blinked. “Oh. Yeah.”
“So lean on him,” Jeff said. “Yeah, you’re attracted to him. And you definitely want to fuck. But let him in emotionally, too. I think you’ll find he’s as a great a listener as he is a talker.”
Steve blushed.
Just then the door swung open to reveal Eddie with a large bag of McDonald’s.
“I didn’t know what you would like,” Eddie said with a grin, “so I got a little of everything I could think of.”
Steve smiled. “I’m sure I’ll find something I like then.”
They all dug in and polished off most the bag of fast food.
“Seriously,” Steve said, “why does greasy food always the best hangover cure?”
Eddie cocked his head to the side. “I don’t know. It defies all logic. You would think it would be stuff that was easy on your stomach like toast and rice would be better, but nope!”
Steve took Eddie’s hand. “Thanks for taking care of me. I appreciate it.”
Eddie blushed to his roots. “You don’t need to thank me. I just did what the next person would have done.”
Jeff snorted. “Bullshit. You went above and beyond and you know it. There is no shame in accepting his thanks. You did good, man.”
Eddie shoved his hair in front of his face to hide his embarrassment. “You’re welcome, Stevie.”
“I think you should go lay back down,” Jeff suggested to Steve. “We’ll be here if you need us.”
Steve nodded and wandered back to Eddie’s room. He closed the door and laid down, sure that he wouldn’t sleep as he had already slept a lot. But it appeared he needed it more than he thought as he drifted back to dreamland.

Modern!Eddie Munson x Female!Reader
Contains: nudes, mutual masturbation, phone sex
18+ only
Eddie flopped face down onto his mattress with a sigh. After working all day, playing at the Hideout, and then hauling all of the bands' equipment, he was wiped. He wanted nothing more then to smoke and go to sleep. His phone pinged with a notification. A contact under the name "Loser" had messaged him, causing a split second of confusion before a lazy grin spread across his face when he realized it was you (he had forgotten he changed it when high). You had been unable to come see Corroded Coffin play tonight as you had made previous plans.
Loser: How did it go?? Good?? Bad??
Loser: Was that one chick who wants to be a groupie there??
Eddie: went ok. Y u jealous?
Loser: just curious lol
Eddie: sure. Wbu?
Loser: Good! Robin and Nancy came. We had a nice dinner. We did paintings! Robin's looks better then mine. Mine looks like shit 😔 now just taking a bath and relaxing.
Eddie: show me?
Loser: lol no???
Eddie: y not? I'm sure it good
Loser: you sure?
Eddie: yes
Loser: fine
Eddie doubted your painting looked bad. You always tore yourself down, even when you did amazing things. He always wanted to throttle you, but knew he would be a hypocrite if he did. Eddie rolled onto his back and looked at the ceiling. He would convince you one day that you were awesome, but until then he would just have to keep reminding you. His phone dinged with a new message from you. He opened it and saw a picture attached and-
Immediately dropped his phone. His heart picked up speed. His eyes widened and face flushed. Eddie dove for the phone as if it were a life preserver and he was drowning. He couldn't believe his eyes. He licked his lips and stared at his phone.
A picture from your neck down. Bubbles in the bath around you. Water was running down your collarbone towards your tits. Your nipples barely covered by the bubbles. One boob having no bubbles around it at all, but your hand flipping him off blocked him from seeing more. He was greedy. He wanted to see more, and had never imagined you would send him this to begin with. Eddie looked down at the tent that had formed in his boxers.
Loser: ask nicely next time 😤
Eddie groaned and his dick twitched. You had totally misunderstood him, he had wanted to see your painting- of course he was more then glad for this outcome. However, he couldn't quite unsee what you had sent, nor would he want to. Eddie reread your text. Next time means more than just this once. Means maybe he could see more. Means maybe he has a better shot with you then he thought. He already overthought things with you many times, and now his brain had just switched to overdrive.
A million thoughts ran through his head as his hand traveled south. He paused briefly," Oh fuck it." He grabbed his dick over his boxers, causing the outline to be very noticeable. He took a pic before sending it to you. He would have felt bad about not sending a message with it, but he would have sat there for ages trying to think of a response. And he couldn't find it in himself to care as he pressed lightly against his dick.
He dropped his phone on his stomach. All Eddie could think about was you as he pulled his dick out of his boxers. Your soap covered tits. How beautiful they looked.. He licked his hand before slowly grasping his dick and squeezing the base, causing the tip to flush more. The pressure causing him to moan. He slowly stroked up and down his length. He picked up the pace, canting his hips up to meet his hand. Part of him wanted to go slow, but the rest of him wanted to get this over with quick so he could do it again and again and again. His chest heaved and sweat started to form on his brow. A sigh fell from his lips that quickly turned to a moan at the thought of it being your hand wrapped around him. How small your hand would look on his dick. How-
His stomach tensed and he jolted as his phone started vibrating and your ringtone played. The vibrations on his lower stomach felt so good, he was tempted to let it keep playing, but the urge to hear your voice was stronger. With his free hand he grabbed the phone and answered. "H-hello?" Eddie asked, panting into the phone. "Oh fuck, Eddie," your voice higher than normal sounded like music to his ears. Eddie moaned and your response was a whimper. "Fuck babe, see what you do to me?" Eddie's voice felt like sandpaper, he was surprised he could even find words. "Uh-huh." The sound of water splashing caught Eddie's attention," holy shit. Are you touching yourself?" "Wish it were you."
Eddie's mind went fuzzy as he picked up speed. The schlick noise picking up, his mind filtering out everything except your moans. "Sound so good. Wish I was there." Eddie mumbled, feeling his tip leaking generously. He was so close. "Fuuuck Eddie I'm gonna-" your sentence was cut off with a moan and he lost it. His hips bucked without rhythm and cum spurted everywhere. He never understood the phrase of people seeing stars behind their eyes until now, but they were more like fireworks. He had never cum this much in his life, not even when he had first found porn.
He slowly came back down, a euphoric feeling enveloping him. A warmth spread in his chest as it heaved, trying to catch a breath. He looked down and saw his shirt covered with his release. Your chuckle pulled him back to earth. "Uh so that happened...so whatcha gonna do about it Munson?" He hummed," Think i should ask you for a date." "You should."
Eddie had the biggest grin when you finally got off the phone, date planned for Friday night. He looked down at your contact name before changing the s to a v. He was going to find that painting you did and make sure it hung over his bed, so he could remember this night forever.

“I Couldn’t Lose You”
Tumblr media
Eddie opened the door.
It was a reflex, really.
Someone rings the bell, you answer the door. It’s an ingrained behavior, unconsciously done.
He didn’t think about the fact that he wasn’t expecting anyone, or that it was past midnight and a decidedly odd time for unexpected visitors. In his defense, he didn’t know the simple act of opening his door would mean stepping into the past, and facing down the worst heartbreak of his life head-on after running away to another State to avoid it.
“Oh.” Eddie gasped, the sound seeming to echo as the man on the other side of the doorway sucked in his own sharp breath.
Pain lanced through his chest as he set eyes on Steve Harrington. The man he loved, who he hadn’t seen in over two years.
“It’s really you.” Steve said, blinking hard as if he couldn't believe his eyes. “I didn’t… I knocked on so many doors. I didn’t know your apartment number and–”
“What are you doing here?” Eddie interrupted, aiming for a bored disinterested tone, but the words came out a little too breathless to pull it off.
He couldn’t help it. The only thing keeping him upright just then was the death grip he had on the doorframe.
What was Steve doing here? Eddie figured he and Nancy would have been halfway to the altar by now, if not already there.
“I…” Steve trailed off, dropping his gaze to the floor. He gave a wry huff of laughter and shook his head before looking back up with guarded eyes. “Just answer me one question, and I'll never bother you again.”
“Fine.”
Eddie’s heart was pounding so loudly in his chest he was sure the other man could hear it. He didn’t want to do this, didn’t want to stand here and look at Steve’s unfairly pretty face and remember. It’d taken him so long to forget, to be okay after… after.
“Why did you run?” Steve asked.
“I didn’t run. I moved.”
Steve scoffed. “Eddie, you snuck out in the middle of the night. We were both barely healed and I- I woke up and you were just gone. I went to your place and Wayne told me you’d packed your shit up in the van and left. No explanation, no note, nothing!”
Eddie shrugged. “I needed a change of scenery.”
“You could have told me!”
“I couldn’t.”
“Bullshit.” Steve spat, his eyes beginning to shimmer with anger. “It was like you died, Eddie! One day you were there and the next you were gone without a trace. No number to call, no forwarding address.”
“Wayne knew where I was.”
Steve shook his head, expression hardening. “It was like you fucking died! And I don’t… I just need to know why.”
Eddie deflated. Any chance of keeping his aloof demeanor intact was gone under the weight of Steve’s gaze. What was the point anyway? He might as well tell him the truth. Maybe then he would leave Eddie alone to begin the process of picking up the pieces of his shattered heart all over again.
“I couldn’t lose you.” Eddie began with a sigh. “I couldn’t stand the idea of losing you, so I left.”
Steve furrowed his brow. “That doesn’t make any sense.”
“I know. Trust me, I know. But after all that shit in the Winnebago with you and Nancy, I couldn’t just sit around and watch her take you from me. I thought If I left first, it wouldn’t hurt so much. I know that’s fucked up of me to say, as if you were ever mine to begin with, but–”
“I was.”
Eddie gulped, shaking his head reflexively. “No.” He breathed.
Steve's face softened and he reached out, cupping Eddie's cheek with an almost painful tenderness. “I was yours, Eddie, and I thought you were mine– or at least I wanted you to be. Looks like maybe I should have been more clear about that.”
“Then why did you say those things to her, about an R.V. and wanting six kids, and–”
“Jesus, is that what this has all been about?” Steve asked, dropping his hand from Eddie’s face and crossing his arms over his chest.
“There was also the eye-fucking.”
“Eddie.”
Eddie threw his hands up. “What was I supposed to think?! Here I was, falling head over heels in love with you, and the whole time you were dreaming about fucking off to Yellowstone or whatever with some picture perfect wife and your brood of equally picture-perfect children, like some non-musical version of the fucking Partridge family. Admit it, I was a detour. A glorified speed bump on your way to the life you actually wanted.”
“Baby-”
Eddie flinched hard at the use of the nickname, stumbling backwards out of Steve's reach. Horrifyingly he could feel tears stinging at the corner of his eyes. Even more horrifying was the fact that Steve was following him into the apartment and shutting the door. Hadn’t he done enough, now he had to literally invade Eddie’s home?
“Baby, please-”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Fine. I-”
“Why are you still here? You got your answer. I don’t know what you needed it for but you can go back to your life with little miss perfect now.”
Eddie staggered to the couch, knowing if he didn’t sit soon his shaking legs would betray him. He pulled a throw pillow to his chest, hugging it tightly as he rested his chin on it.
Steve crouched down in front of him, but Eddie studiously ignored his gaze.
“What are you talking about? Nancy?”
“Or whoever the current little miss perfect is. I know you’re not picky.”
“Ouch.” Steve said, though not like the barb had actually stung. He reached out towards Eddie’s knee, moving slowly to give him every opportunity to protest.
He didn’t.
”There is no little miss perfect.” Steve said softly.
Eddie whined involuntarily. Squeezing the pillow tighter and tighter to his chest.
“It was true, what I said to Nancy in the RV. I did always have that dream. The part I didn’t get to say, because we were a little busy at the time, the part I would have told you if you’d asked me about it, is how the dream had changed. When you and I became, whatever we were back then, the dream became less about having 6 little Harringtons, and more about the person in the passenger seat. The one I really wanted to share my life with, the family we might build together by adopting our own kids some day, or the family we found with the little brats I can't seem to get rid of even though they’re about to graduate high school.”
Steve knelt down in front of Eddie more solidly, gently prying the pillow out of his iron grip. Eddie let it go. His eyes were locked on Steve’s as he let everything that was just said to him sink in.
“Say something, please.” Steve begged, taking both of Eddie’s hands in his.
“Is it still me?” Eddie croaked out, his throat tight as he fought not to cry. “In the passenger seat– is it still me, or did I fuck everything up?”
Steve smiled broadly, a few tears of his own escaping his eyes to roll down his cheeks. “I’ve been looking for you, all this time. I love you. Of course it’s still you, baby.”
Eddie surged forward, crashing his mouth into Steve’s. Their lips slotted together perfectly, just as they always had, as if no time had passed at all. Eddie threw his arms over Steve’s shoulders, pulling him close, as Steve wound his hands up into Eddie's hair, gently tugging.
They parted only when they had to, or else risk passing out from lack of oxygen. Eddie rested his forehead against Steve’s while they both caught their breath.
“I love you too… still… always. In case that wasn’t clear.”
Steve snorted the most unattractive laugh imaginable, but it was music to Eddie’s ears. He hadn’t heard that sound in far too long, and it warmed his heart almost as much as the kiss to know he’d caused it.
“I don’t know, Eds. I think you might have to show me again.”
Eddie was happy to comply.
He grinned, leaning in for another deep lingering kiss.
Thank you @penny00dreadful beloved friend and beta!

A/N: I thought it would be fun to give y’all some conversations from Eddie and Reader’s date night✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Is…is that what you’re wearing?” “You told me it was a surprise and I like to be comfortable especially for surprises so yes…you can take it or leave it daddy-o.” “It’s just..the slippers with the sweatpants are so…-” “Distractingly sexy? Deliriously cute?” “Distracting…is a great word for it but it’s fine because we are just going to go see a movie.” “Our first date and you’re not only taking me to the place I work but…you’re taking me somewhere we can’t talk for two hours?” “Correction sweetheart I’d never take you to your own movie theater….and I know you like the snacks.” “Well then…let’s get going…what movie are we seeing? I hope it’s scary.” “It’s a limited time showing of the original Halloween…” “but you hate Michael?” “Yeah but you love him…”
“Are we having dinner after this?” “Why?” “It’s going to determine what I order…” “oh well yeah..yeah we are gonna go to dinner after this.” “Okay so I’ll just get a large popcorn…can I get a sprite or are you going to make me drink water?” “You can get a sprite…” “okay then a large popcorn and a sprite and some nachos.” “You’re going to get all that after I said we are going to dinner?” “Yes? I was going to add a pretzel and a hot dog but I didn’t…stop looking at me like that you asshole I’m almost eight months pregnant and I’m hungry all the damn time.” “Sorry…order whatever you want.” “Thank you…”
“Feel free to hold my hand if you get scared.” “You’re so annoying…just because I don’t like Michael doesn’t mean he scares me.” “I’m just saying…I’m here if you need someone to cuddle with.” “Do you want me to…hold your hand?” “It’s a date isn’t it? Don’t most couples hold hands and shit?” “Yeah…yeah they do…is this..okay?” “That’s not comfortable…that’s my grabbing popcorn hand…how about this?” “Jesus! You have to warn me…before you just put your hand on…my thigh.” “Sorry!” “But it’s…it’s fine yeah…that uh works for me.” “Look at us doing couple type stuff together…” “I think we actually…make a cute couple.” “Oh the cutest couple in this theater for sure.” “It’s still weird when we agree on things.” “Only because you make it weird Eddie…”
“I just think cheese fries are actually hard to perfect…everyone tries but few are successful..” “but Benny…he’s managed to perfect it somehow?” “Yes…just try one.” “If this doesn’t change my life then I’m going to be upset.” “Oh trust me baby daddy it’ll change your life.” “Oh..wow…yeah okay…I get the hype.” “Don’t get greedy..these are mine.” “I know you well enough to know you’d never share food with me….I’ll order my own.” “I’ll share food with you Eddie just not cheese fries.” “Really?” “Yes…just not cheese fries…or candy…or my secret stash of chocolate.” “What about a bite of your grilled cheese?” “I know what a bite means to you…so here just take half…I told you that the burger wasn’t what you wanted today.” “Next time I’ll just let you order for me.” “Next time? Is that your sneaky way of asking me on another date?” “I think this one is going good enough to maybe do it again?” “Yeah…I’d say so…” “so you’ll go on another date with me then?” “Yes I’ll go on another date with you.”
“So…mind if I come in and tell Dotty goodnight?” “Trying to invite yourself in on the first date? God Edward what kinda girl do you take me for?” “Don’t be annoying.” “Yes you can come-” “I’m sorry I just wanted to do that all night and you-” “who taught you how to kiss like that?…was it Nancy?” “I hate you.” “Sorry couldn’t help myself…come on and help me get ready for bed? I’ll let you tell Dotty your side of the date before I tell her mine after you leave.” “I have to leave?” “Edward James Munson you are not sleeping over on the first date good lord.” “I like it when you say my full name like that….so what nightgown is it gonna be tonight? Smiley faces or peace signs?” “Smiley faces please.” “Good choice…I’ll go make you some water while you go get changed.” “Okay…hey Eddie?” “Yeah?” “I had a really good time tonight.” “Me too sweetheart…me too.”

It won’t leave me alone, so I gotta share it. It’s an a/o/b idea and I know it’s not everyone’s thing but it’s one of mine soooooo
Steve’s an omega that’s taken care and raised kids, other people’s kids. He loves it, always will but they never stay. Can’t stay, because he isn’t their actual parent. And he really, really, really wants to have his own. Growing up as an only child to parents that didn’t really care, it would make you want a huge family or at least someone else that loves you.
But no one wants him, at least not like that. He tried finding something with Nancy but that ended and left a sour taste in his mouth, then when he does find someone else, they don’t want kids either or they don’t actually love him either.
It’s fine, he tells himself all the time. It’s alright, he helped raised some kids. There’s Dustin, who still bugs him for rides. Then Lucas, asks for basketball pointers and also a kid that an ex of his. See? It’s fine.
He’ll only admit it to himself and in his dark room, but he does want to have his own pup and someone who’ll love him. It’s honestly one of the things he’s wanted his whole life but too afraid to admit it. (Eventually, he meets Eddie and everything he’s ever wanted happens, obviously 😌)
(if anyone would like you could write this out 👀👀)

one word prompt: scheme
‘i have a scheme.’
‘no.’
‘alright, a plan.’
‘the word isn’t what i have a problem with. the whole concept is.’ orym glanced up from his book, fixed her with a knowing—and amused—look. ‘she’s a big girl. she can do this without us.’
fearne sighed. flopped dramatically into the sofa beside him, wriggling until her head was in his lap. she cleared her throat. he went back to reading. she cleared her throat, louder, and continued to do so until he said,
‘alright!’ orym put his book down and gave her his undivided attention, playing with her hair. ‘how did you get this so knotted up?’
fearne shrugged. she lay legs kicked over the arm of the couch, and drummed her heels against the side of it, frowning up at the ceiling.
‘are you sure—‘
‘yes. we aren’t going to spy on her.’
‘no,’ fearne said, sharply, ‘are you sure she’ll be alright?’
orym looked at his friend. fearne calloway was a legend of the silver screen for a reason; she was a creature drawn to drama, to delight, to playing pretend. there was no one like her. he truly believed that. there was no one in the world so capable of transformation as fearne. but he knew—and ought to have remembered—that transformation did not mean fraud and trickery didn’t mean carelessness. at her core, fearne was hungry. hungry for attention and pretty things, sure, but that was mild compared to her hunger for life, love, freedom. to someone else, that might have been scary, but orym had grown up with this girl—had pulled out sleeping bags so often they hardly ever got put away until his mother bought him bunk beds instead. she was his sister in everything but blood and he knew, he knew, that he belonged to fearne. and so did imogen. and gods help anyone who hurt her.
‘she’s gonna be fine,’ he said, making himself sound confident for fearne. he was confident—but then again, imogen had a brain that wasn’t always kind, and she was going on a date, which she had never really done before. ‘it might not go perfectly, but she’ll be fine.’
fearne nodded. her earrings jangled. her nails clicked as she tapped her steepled fingers. ‘i’m going to follow her,’ fearne announced. ‘you should come. if not to spy on imogen, at least to keep her from noticing me.’
orym groaned. ‘we promised!’
‘we promised we wouldn’t interfere. not that we wouldn’t turn up to watch.’ fearne rolled off the couch and strode for the door. ‘i’m going to need a disguise.’
‘no, you think?’
‘where’s your trench coat?’
‘it won’t fit.’
fearne looked at him like he was being very silly, and she would laugh if she had thought it was on purpose. instead, she rolled her eyes. ‘mine is in my bag.’ the obviously went unsaid but not unheard. ‘you should bring a gun.’
‘first, i don’t have a gun. second, we aren’t threatening her date with a gun or anything else. third—‘ orym crossed his arms and stood his ground. ‘i haven’t agreed to go.’
fearne tilted her head and smiled.
//
‘i can’t believe we’re doing this,’ orym grumbled from behind his newspaper, eyeholes cut out of it. ‘this is stupid.’
‘i didn’t ask you here to be a negative nancy.’
‘you didn’t ask me at all,’ orym hissed. ‘you threatened me.’
fearne fluttered her fingers as if to say, there you have it, that’s the end of the matter, and refocused on imogen on the other side of the cafe.

I Don't Know Which Way's Home
Chapter 12: Temporary
ao3 link, Part 1, Part 11
New Years Eve, December 1986
Steve looks around the room, seeing everyone watch the performances in Times Square and playing games. The adults talking amongst themselves in the dining room while all the older kids are talking on the couches. Even if they weren’t quite kids anymore.
It’s a few minutes until midnight, and Steve has never been happier. Seeing his house full of life, full of love. It always made his mood a little brighter. Even now, seeing Julie laughing with the kids that he thinks of as family, it makes him proud. Proud that he gets to call these people family.
Eddie saunters up to him, beer in hand. Getting close in the way that they can when no one else knows. “Wanna smoke?” he asks.
“Sure,” Steve smiles, knowing that’s not really what it means.
They head outside, the cold air instantly making Steve shiver. As soon as they get out of eyesight, Eddie pulls Steve close, wrapping his arms around Steve’s waist. Steve draping his arms around Eddie’s shoulders.
“Hi,” Eddie smiles. “Midnight’s pretty soon.”
“Yeah, that why you pulled me out here?”
Eddie scoffs. “Like I need an excuse just to do this,” he leans forward and kisses Steve. Steve melting into it every time. “That and Birdie beat me to calling the pantry. Her and Nancy are about to be ‘stuck’ in there for a few minutes.”
Steve laughs, pulling Eddie closer. “Think we’ll be able to hear the countdown out here?”
“With this group, probably. I know this is cheesy, and this year was shit for various reasons, but what was you’re favorite thing that happened this year?”
It doesn’t take much thought to have answers pop into Steve’s mind. “I actually have two. The first was Julie showing up on my doorstep and building my relationship with her. But the second,” Steve looks into Eddie’s eyes with a look that he’s feared for years. “The second is you.”
Steve has only ever been in love once before this. And that ended in a less than ideal way. Even if they weren’t meant for each other, or are now friends, it was still enough to make him scared. Make him fear for the day that he would open his heart up again for someone else. Hoping that they won’t reject him. Dates were fine, confessions of attraction were nothing. Love. Love was terrifying.
Terrifying enough that even when he’s standing in the most caring person’s arms, feeling more than he has in years, the words still get caught in his throat. Can’t be spoken, in the small case they’re rejected.
He’s always been fast to fall in love. Jumping in headfirst and figuring it all out later. Even in the darkest depths, he would always be the first to wade in.
Falling in love was easy. It was everything that came with it that made it so hard. And for Steve, there was a lot of baggage. With his parents, and his past, love was different. Love was complicated. Despite his best efforts, they always ended up intertwined. The feelings of loneliness and neglect mixing in where he doesn’t want them.
But as the kids yell out the countdown as the new year turns, Eddie’s lips find Steve’s again, everything sets into place. Every bad thing dissipating away for just a second. Because Eddie was different, at least Steve hoped. But that was for later, this was now.
“Mine is you too,” Eddie says when they break apart, his hands cupping Steve’s face. “You make me happier than you know.”
Maybe this was the one time where the waters weren’t as murky as they normally were. Where the water is crystal clear instead of green and grey. A place that is meant to be dived into, where the sun glimmers through to lead the way back to the top. And instead of pulling everything down to the bottom to drown, it all floats to the top and is able to breathe.
“Happy new year, Eddie,” Steve says quietly, letting this moment stay perfectly still.
. . .
Present Day, January 1987, Two Weeks Later
Steve is talking to someone on the phone. Which isn’t, like, a bad thing. Or a strange thing at all. Julie’s seen him talk on the phone a bunch of times, but not like this. Not with what can only be described as a dopey smile on his face and the way she’s never seen him like this before. And the laughter, giddy laughter. It’s unreal. Unusual.
Happy. Steve looks happy. Not to say that he wasn’t happy before, but not like this. But this time when he smiles, it actually reaches his eyes. Brightens them actually. Something that’s straight out of a shitty romcom. But real.
He has to be seeing somebody, Julie concludes. Has thought for a while now. She’s heard someone come into the house late at night, and Steve always seem to be a little bit happier on his days off. Like there’s been someone here when she isn’t. Or isn’t awake. That she’s being kept away from them.
Maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe Steve just wants to keep his relationship to himself for now. Do all of the introduction later. But she can’t help but want to know. Know why he’s keeping a secret, and if it’s because of her.
It’s stupid, she knows, but the voice keeps finding it’s way into her mind. Telling her repeatedly that Steve isn’t telling her because she won’t be here forever. That this is all still temporary, and he hasn’t done anything to change that. Then, neither has she. It’s hard to admit to someone that you want to stay. Especially when the other person has a whole life that Julie doesn’t know about.
She knows that Steve likes her, wants her to be here. But for how long, that is the question.
As Steve waves goodbye as he drops her off at school, she can’t help but feel like she’s asking too much. If she were to ask to stay permanently. He’s already given her so much, she can’t ask to take his life. She might not always feel like it, but she’s still a kid. A tie that holds people back, held her mom back.
She never showed it, but Julie knew. Deep down, she knew. Her mom would cancel dates when Julie got sick, or lost a job because she called out too many times. Stopped herself from going back to school and getting the degree she wanted. Doomed herself to waitress and secretary jobs, even if it made her miserable.
All for Julie. Always for Julie. Never for herself.
Julie didn’t want to tie Steve to the same fate. He was still young, only a few years older than her. He had the chance to be who he wanted to be, even if it meant leaving her. She didn’t want that. But if it made him happy. Well, why would she stop him. After everything he’s been through in life, he deserved to be happy.
“Dude, you need to let it go,” Lucas says to Dustin at the lunch table. The rest of the group has been eating with them more often. It’s been interesting, to say the least. Definitely louder.
Dustin rolls his eyes, saying a small hello when Julie sits down. “No, I don’t. He’s hiding something from me, and I know it.”
“Maybe you could respect another person’s boundary for once,” Max snaps, taking a bite of her food.
“I respect people’s boundaries,” Dustin gasps. Met with immediate disagreements from the rest of the table.
“What are we talking about?” Julie asks, taking a bite of her sandwich.
Mike rolls his eyes. “Steve, for no reason.”
“Dude that’s her brother.”
“My point still stands.”
“What about Steve?” Julie asks, not really wanting to.
Dustin turns toward her, already ready for a rant. “He’s hiding something. Like a someone,” he says with a face like Julie knows what he’s talking about.
Which she does, but it’s still annoying. “I thought we agreed you’d drop it until I knew something. He still hasn’t told me about it.”
Max interrupts, “you know about this?”
“Unfortunately,” Julie says the same time Dustin confidently says “Yes, she does.”
“And we agreed to let it go until Steve decides to share it with us. And by we, I mean him.” Julie points at Dustin.
Dustin huffs. “Well, that was before. This is now. Things have escalated.”
“Nothing has escalated,” Will says when Mike rolls his eyes again. “You’re just being dramatic.”
“Too dramatic,” Mike adds.
“And pushy,” Lucas says.
“It is his life,” El says. “It is up to him to share it with us. No matter how close we all are. We should not push it.” She shares a glance with her brother, silently communicating.
Max nods in agreement. “El’s right, nerd. Leave it alone. You know what happens when you push.”
“Things blow up.”
“Go to shit.”
“End pretty terribly.”
“Fine,” Dustin exclaims, crossing his arms.
. . .
Eddie lets himself into the house, immediately finding Steve in the kitchen. Days off are the only time they’re able to be together. Alone together. Not have to hide, to pretend. Just be themselves with each other, with no one else around.
It’s like a relief when they get to be together like this. Unashamed in his house, free. Like a weight lifts off his shoulders and he can just be. And not have to worry about the wrong person finding out, or someone finding out before it’s too soon. Just them, where Steve is happy and nothing else matters.
Steve presses into Eddie’s touch, pulling him in closer and melting into the touch of their lips. Tracing his hands at the hem of Eddie’s shirt, desperate to feel the skin of skin contact again. As if every time is the first time. Always having the same effect over and over again.
Because this still doesn’t feel real to Steve. It still doesn’t feel real that this can even happen for him. That he can be this happy in a house that caused him so much pain. This happy at all.
He still has times where he thinks that he doesn’t deserve this. That this is all just a phase, and it will pass. It has before, time after time. People tend to leave Steve, and he doesn’t want Eddie to leave. Never wants Eddie to leave. But after the person he’s been in the past, and the mess that he’s been in the present, he’s not so sure that it’s all set in stone. That the promises were written in sand near the shore, and as soon as the tide comes in, it will all go away.
The house will return to the lifeless whole it once was. Swallowing all that was good of Steve and leaving him empty. The life will be stripped away, the light will disappear. Everything that was good will become rotten and fall away. And Steve will sit on the stairs and wait for the door to open again.
He has to remind himself that these people are different. People who stay around Steve because they actually like him, and not just his money or his name. They won’t just leave him when he makes the wrong step. Won’t just abandon him. They aren’t his parents.
And when Eddie holds him like he won’t have the chance to do the same tomorrow, it only proves to him that this is real. That this isn’t going away, and Eddie won’t leave him without saying another word. How can a person hold someone like this if they want to leave? Steve doesn’t think that they can.
“Hey,” Eddie says when he pulls back. “I, uh, I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Ok,” Steve says, for the first time not freaking out on the inside. “What about?”
Eddie steps back a little, letting there be a small gap between them. “About us, actually.”
His face is full of nervousness, one that Steve can’t quite read. Like a reflex, the anxiety starts to grow again. Like he’s back in that bathroom at the Halloween party and his heart’s about to break again. But it’s Eddie, Eddie wouldn’t hurt Steve. Not without a reason to. Has Steve given him a reason to?
“Oh,” Steve says shocked, trying his best not to freak out. “Is something wrong?”
“No,” Eddie assures. “No, no. It’s nothing bad, I promise. I just, it’s just something that I thought we should start thinking about.”
A small breath of relief escapes Steve’s lungs, but the anxieties don’t leave fully quite yet.
“I thought that we should start talking about when to tell the others, about us. When you’re ready to, of course. But we can’t keep this hidden forever, and Dustin’s been giving me some really weird looks lately. And just got me thinking, that’s all.”
“You know I’m not ready to tell them, about me at least, yet. I can’t risk it right now.”
Eddie’s face twists. “What do you mean, can’t risk it? They wouldn’t just go around town telling people about us.”
Steve knows it’s true, knows that they wouldn’t intentionally say anything. But that’s what gets him every time his thinks about it. Intentionally. These kids are just kids, and sometimes they can’t stop themselves from talking. Not until the harm is done. He can’t risk harm being done. Not with how much he now has to lose.
It was different when he didn’t have Julie, didn’t have this impending lawsuit hanging over his head. Steve could risk a lot when it was just him that he had to worry about. When risking himself meant just that, risking himself. Now, if this got out, there’s no question that he would lose custody of Julie. She’d be taken from him and placed in another home that wouldn’t care for her. And there’s the possibility that she could never look him in the eye again. He couldn’t risk that.
With the lawsuit, he needs to be on his best behavior. He needs to show the courts that there was everything wrong with his parents and nothing wrong with him. He can’t give them any ammo to make the judge see him differently. Being in a relationship with a man, even if it’s a loving one, that would make or break his case. It might justify his parents’ actions, make him lose. Make him a fool. Ostracize him. Run him out of town.
“But if by some accident that they did, just by accident. I have so much I can lose now, Eds.”
It never bothered him before, not like this. The worry surrounding his brain and shutting out the logic. Making his thoughts race to every way things can go wrong. Seeing the face Julie would make when he betrayed her like this. Promised her everything just to rip it away again. Sees the headlines in the paper the day after court, how it would affect him in a way that is unimaginable. And yet he can picture it all so clearly.
“They’ve known about me for months Steve, they haven’t said anything. It’ll be ok.”
But him is different. With Eddie, his reputation already isn’t that great. Steve is known, for the most part, as the golden child of the rich family in town. Even if he is a dead beat that didn’t go to college and works as a manager at the local video store. The fact of the matter is that people would talk, rich snobby people with power that could do so much harm. This small-town gossip could follow him outside, keep trapping him back in this house.
“I have a reputation, Eddie. One that I don’t really care about, sure, but I can’t afford to ruin it-.”
“So, this is about reputation?” Eddie steps away from him, fully breaking their contact. Steve can sense Eddie pulling away, rebuilding his walls. The hurt finding it’s way to his eyes. “It’s always reputation with you people.”
Steve feels his heart start to crack. But he can fix this, he just has to explain himself.
“You know it’s not like that. When it was just me, I’d ruin everything if it meant being with you. But I can’t risk this getting out, not when Julie depends on me.”
“And I get that. But that is so far from what I’m asking.” His voice is thick with hurt. Hurt that Steve caused. “I just want to tell people that I’m with you. Is that so bad?”
“It is if it means that I lose her. This is more complicated than just you and me.” Steve can feel himself getting heated. Feel the anger start to bubble underneath his skin. The anxieties of his mind only addling kindling to the flame.
Eddie crosses his arms, his jaw clenching. “So, you’d rather hide forever instead of tell the people we love and trust that we’re in a relationship.”
“Don’t say it like that and make me feel bad about this. You know that I want to tell people eventually.”
“That just it,” Eddie raises his voice. “That stupid word eventually. Everyone loves to use that as if it’s a promise when really, it’s just a lie. When is eventually, Steve? Is it when you feel comfortable to come out? Or is it when you get full custody of Julie? Is it after you go to court with you’re parents? Is it when Julie turns eighteen and you can’t lose her anymore? Is it twenty years down the line when your precious reputation might not be tarnished anymore?”
Each word Eddie spits adds another brick to Steve’s defenses, protecting himself for what he knows is about to happen. “That is so far from what I am saying.”
“Are you ashamed of me? Be honest. I’d rather be hurt now then before this gets serious.”
“Is,” a lump starts to form in Steve’s throat. Awaiting the one word that could make him break. “Is this not serious for you?”
Eddie’s face falls. “Shit, no. Yes. I mean. Yes, this is serious. Serious that I want to tell people. But if. I’ve been hidden before, Steve, I don’t want to be hidden again.”
“So, you’d rather break up with me than wait for me to be ready?”
“No, that’s not. I just want to be able to stay the night without having to sneak in. I want to hold your hand when we’re hanging out with our friends. I want to be with you on days other than when no one else is in the house.”
Tears start to well in Steve’s eyes. His mind races to find an answer, to find something to say. All the words he can even think of get stuck in his throat. And those aren’t the right thing to say. He doesn’t have the right thing to say.
Steve can’t give Eddie what he’s asking for. Not now. Not in the immediate future.
Eddie is hurt, and for reasons that are valid. Steve is hiding him. Partially because he isn’t ready to tell the kids, and partially because this relationship can’t get out. Even when it can, he is still going to be hiding Eddie from everyone other than their friends. They will never be able to be a real couple, at least the kinds Steve has had in the past.
He knew that. Knew that their dates could never be too romantic so they wouldn’t get caught. Knew that any form of public affection couldn’t happen. Not in this town. They weren’t safe if people knew the truth. Steve already had enough things to worry about, maybe he didn’t need this to worry about too.
“Forget it,” Eddie interrupts Steve’s train of thoughts. “I shouldn’t have said anything. We’ll just, we’ll talk later. I’m gonna go.” He picks up his keys from the counter and walks down the hallway.
Just as he turns to leave, Steve knows that this is something worth fighting for. Them, their relationship. It was something that was real, and worth it. Maybe he can’t risk it now, but that doesn’t mean he can’t in the future. And he wants to tell the kids, he’s just not ready yet.
Eddie should understand that. Wouldn’t he?
“No, Eddie, wait. Let’s just talk about this, I-.” Steve tries to catch Eddie’s arm, but it gets pulled away.
“Steve, let me go. I just need to think, ok.” Eddie shuts the door behind him before Steve can say another word.
Steve leans his head on the door, a tear streaking down his cheek. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. It’s not supposed to end like this. Steve can’t go through this right now. Not before he’s able to tell Eddie how he feels. Tell the group about them. It’s supposed to work out this time.
But he left Steve. Alone in the house, again. Just like everyone did. And how everyone might do again. He’s never good enough for anyone to stay. Why would this time be different?
It’s an hour before he moves. An hour until he makes it to the hall phone and calls Robin, explains what happens. Twenty more minutes until she lets herself through the door and finds him crumpled on the floor. Five minutes until she’s ready to dig Eddie’s grave. Fifteen minutes until she’s helping Steve put himself back together again. With a constant reminder that she’s not leaving. Not ever. Telling him that the others won’t either. That this was just a fight. It wasn’t the end.
He can’t stop feeling like it is though.
. . .
Steve is silent as he drives Julie and Dustin home. Robin in the front seat, making conversation enough so that they don’t notice. But constantly looking over at Steve to check in on him. Make sure that he’s ok.
Julie notices. Hard not to when she’s had that same look on her face before. He’s putting on a good show, nodding along as Dusitn rants, looking engaged. But his eyes are blank, as if his mind is somewhere else completely.
She wonders if something happened with his parents again. If they called and reprimanded them through the phone. Or if something else happened. Maybe with the mystery person he’s been seeing. Even if she’s half-convinced that mystery person isn’t so mystery. But that isn’t her conclusion to make.
And it isn’t Dustin’s to make either, even if he keeps insisting that it’s right. Even if he is making eyes at Julie and nodding his head toward Steve. Trying to get her to ask the burning question. She’s not going to ask it. Not now. Now when she can see the blank look on his face. But Dustin can’t.
“So, meet anyone new recently Steve?” Dustin asks, not being subtle at all. Julie rolls her eyes, tempted to grab a notebook out of her bag and smack him over the head with it.
Robin groans and Steve leans his head further against the headboard. Julie glares at Dustin, trying to get him to drop it.
“What, it’s an innocent question,” he defends. Julie’s head falls into her hands.
“For the love of God, Dustin. Learn how to read the room, or car or, fuck this. I’m a lesbian, Dustin, we’re not dating. For the millionth fucking time,” Robin exclaims from the front seat.
Steve eyes widen as he turns to her, the first expression Julie’s seen him make the whole ride. Robin’s face slowly matches his, realizing what she just did. The car is excruciatingly silent, probably just for a few seconds, but it doesn’t feel like it.
“I-. That’s not,” Dusting starts, trying to figure out what he’s going to say. “Thank you for sharing that, I’m happy you told me. Even if it wasn’t what I was asking, like at all. But that actually makes a lot of sense, in hindsight.”
Robin clears her throat. “So, you don’t have a problem with it?”
“No, why would I have a problem with it? I don’t care who you date. Well, I do because you're my friend. But like, not who that person is, not really. “
“I don’t either,” Julie finds herself saying. “Care for you who date. As long as they treat you right and you’re happy. Not really much else to care about.”
Steve smiles softly, looking over at Robin who shares the same expression. He gives her a small thumbs up, staying silent otherwise.
“Well, thank you,” she says.
The rest of the car ride is silent, the mood shifted away from the tense moment. Dustin gets out of the car when they pull in front of his house. Giving up his investigation for today.
“I’m sorry about him,” Julie says when they pull away. “I tried to tell him to drop it.”
Robin snorts. “Yeah well, that never works as well as you think it will.”
“I can tell.”
When they get back home, Steve parks the car and unlocks the door. Heading upstairs to his room without another word.
“Is he ok?” Julie asks Robin.
Robin gives her a comforting smile. “He will be. Just a bad day.”
Julie nods as Robin heads upstairs to Steve’s room. Shutting the door gently behind her. Julie goes to the kitchen to do her homework. Her mind not really focusing on anything.
It keeps coming back to the car ride. Steve. Robin’s confession. How it really wasn’t that much of a surprise, not to her at least. She had a feeing that Robin was different than others. The same feeling she’s sort of been having about herself. But was always too afraid to say anything about it. Scared of what it meant. What would happen if people found out.
Maybe that’s why she was so defensive when Dustin brought it up at the Christmas Eve party. How his answer made her feel relief, not just for Steve, but for herself. That there might be a small hope that someone out there would accept her, if what she was feeling is true.
Then when Robin confessed in the car, it only made her more relieved. Steve accepted her, he knew. It’s not surprising that he did, they were pretty inseparable. But it was still nice to know that he would accept Julie too.
Because even though she’s still trying to figure it all out, it’s looking to be more and more like a fact. And it’s terrifying.
. . .
Steve walks into his house to find Eddie sitting in his living room. Normally he wouldn’t care. Normally it wouldn’t matter. But they haven’t talked in days, and it’s killing him. He’s mad. Angry. Sad. Guilty. He doesn’t know. He’s something, and he’s not sure if he’s ready to talk to Eddie just yet.
It’s not even that they just had a fight. Or maybe it is. Maybe it’s because of what their fight was. It was stupid, Steve was being stupid. At communicating at least. He still isn’t ready to tell the kids, even if he knows that two of them would accept it. But what he said is still true. This getting out would make everything worse right now. He can’t risk it.
Maybe that means they have to break up. Maybe that means they have to slow everything down and take a break from them. Eddie doesn’t deserve to feel hidden. It’s Steve’s fault that he is. This just wasn’t the right time for him. Steve has to accept that.
That’s why he isn’t ready for this. The farther he pushed away this conversation, the longer he can say that he and Eddie are together. The longer he’ll still be in the best relationship of his life. The one that he actually saw going for a long time. Forever, even. It’s stupid really, how hopeful he was. He knows he dives in to fast without checking for monsters in the water. But this time he thought it was safe waters. But he guesses it wasn’t.
“Hey,” Eddie says when Steve walks through the door. Standing from the couch. “You’re dressed fancy.”
Fancy was a nice button down with slacks. “Yeah, I had that meeting with the lawyer today. Remember,” he crossly says.
Eddie looks down ashamed. “Yeah, I did. I showed up and you were already gone. I thought you wanted me to go with you.”
“That’s before you left.”
It’s the part that hurt the worst. Out of all of this. Eddie left. Just like his parents. Instead of staying to fix this, to work it out, he left Steve stranded at his front door. Unable to move. Unable to feel. Just frozen. Waiting for the door to open again and for the person who left return. For the person he loved to come back.
Eddie wasn’t his parents. But it didn’t matter. Not to his mind. In that moment, his returned to the kid that was left at every important moment in his life. And even the unimportant. Back to the kid that was a disappointment for just existing. Not meeting expectations. By not being perfect. He wasn’t the perfect partner for Eddie, so he left.
“I went with Robin instead, so I wasn’t alone,” he says with more venom in his voice than he intended. But it was justified.
Eddie looks hurt, Steve wanted him to. But it still hurt to see. “You’re mad. You have every right to be.”
“Yeah, I do. You left Eddie. You left me.” Steve feels tears start to gloss over his eyes. “After everything you knew, you still left.”
“I know. And I’m sorry. I should have just walked around your backyard or something. Sat in another room. Not left.”
“No, you shouldn’t have.”
It’s silent between them. Neither of them really knowing what to say. Steve wants to accept his apology, but it still feels like every apology he’s ever gotten. Cheap and hollow, never enough substance to it to make it true.
Eddie runs a hand down his face. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what else to say. I was. Triggered, I guess, by some of the things you said. Sounded like every other guy I’ve been with. But you’re not like them, I shouldn’t have treated you like you were.”
“There’s so much more at stake here than my reputation. I can’t let this get out, even if I was ready to tell people. And if you can’t deal with that, can you at least just tell me now.” Steve can hear his voice breaking. He wants to stop it but can’t. “Why did you even show up today? You clearly didn’t want to talk to me.”
“But that didn’t mean I wasn’t still going to be there for you. And I can deal with it. I just couldn’t in that moment, but it passed, and I realized how much of an idiot I was being. Just because we had a fight doesn’t mean that I was going to forget the promises I made you.”
Steve swallows the lump in his throat. “Why?”
“Because I love you,” Eddie confesses with one breath. “I love you and I’m sorry I didn’t say it sooner. It scares the hell out of me. I’ve never been in love before, not like this and I. I didn’t want to lose you, so I did what I do best and ran. Away from the argument and from you.”
Eddie walks up to Steve, and Steve lets him touch him. Let’s him cup his face with his hand and run his thumb across Steve’s cheek. It’s easy for Steve to fall into the touch, having missed it for days. “I promise to never run from you again.”
“Why you’d not talk to me for days?”
“Cause I thought you didn’t want to see me. Like you said, I left. I couldn’t face the fact that I hurt you like that.”
Steve closes his eyes. “Yeah, you did. But you also came back. And I didn’t blame you, not for what you said. It was true. I was, am hiding you.”
“And I’m ok with that. For now, until the dust settles, and until you’re ready. I’m sorry for making you feel like I wasn’t. This is too special to me to break this easily.”
The tears finally escape from Steve’s eyes, rolling down his cheeks. Eddie wipes them away, a few tears of his own finding their way down his cheeks. Eddie pulls Steve in for a hug, and it feels like home. Only making Steve break more.
“Thank you for coming back,” Steve whispers into Eddie’s hair when he calms down. “I’m sorry that I made you feel like you couldn’t.”
“You have nothing to apologize for, sweetheart. Nothing, you hear me. This was my mistake. I know that.”
Steve pulls away. “No, but it was also mine. I, I know that people have hurt you in the past and it was because they made you feel like nothing. I don’t want to make you feel like nothing.”
“And you don’t. I promise that you don’t. Sneaking in at night sucks, but then I get into bed with you, and it makes everything worth it. This, us, is so important to me.”
“Maybe you don’t have to sneak in every night. Maybe some nights you can just ‘stay over’ in the guest room and then sneak one door over. Instead of coming over at midnight.”
Eddie smiles. “That would work for me. But seriously, we don’t say a thing until you’re ready. That’s a promise I swear I won’t break.”
“I love you too,” Steve blurts out. “I didn’t say it before. But it’s true. I’ve been just as scared about it as you have.”
Eddie kisses him softly. “I love you.”
“I love you.”
. . .
When Julie parks her bike, Eddie’s leaving the driveway. Waving to her on the way out. She waves back, heading inside.
Steve is back to himself again. Wandering around the kitchen in sweats, singing softly to the classic rock station on the radio. He smiles at her when she enters, offers to make her a snack. She refuses, not that hungry.
It’s strange how this place felt so foreign to her a few weeks ago. How the walls felt claustrophobic and everything around her was just crushing. But it’s better now, she’s better now. Still sad, but better. And this place felt like home. Her home. She didn’t want it to go away like the last one.
“Could I talk to you about something?” Julie forces herself to ask before she loses the nerve. Before she just runs to her room and locks herself on a blanket of insecurities again.
“Sure,” Steve says. “What’s up?”
Julie picks at her thumb. “I just. Me living here is still temporary, right?”
Steve’s face drops a bit as he leans on the island. “From a paperwork standpoint, yeah. Why do you ask?”
It’s so stupid that this affects her. That her thinking that Steve not sharing his relationship with her means that he doesn’t want her here. But it’s a part of his life. She wanted to be here for the good and the bad. And it felt like the good was being kept from her. As if she had a right to know it. But it still hurt a little.
“I just. This is so dumb. But you’re terrible at hiding things and I’ve heard someone come in the house pretty much every night for the past month at midnight on the dot. And I can’t help but feel like you’re hiding it from me. Like them meeting me is too much. Like you don’t want me here.”
It sounds more stupid when she says it out loud. But it’s true.
“I do want you here,” Steve says softly. “I really do. You living with me isn’t temporary to me, it’s just a long process to make it that way. And we haven’t really talked about what the steps would be past just me getting guardianship. But if you want to, we can start talking about getting permanent custody.”
A weight lifts itself from Julie’s shoulders. “Yes, yeah. I’d like that. I’d like to stay here, with you.”
Steve smiles. “Good. Me too. As for the other thing. I am seeing someone, but it’s,” he takes a breath. “It’s a bit more complicated than just telling you. I’m not really ready to tell anyone about it yet, it’s not just you. But if them coming over without you knowing is making you uncomfortable, it can stop.”
“No, no, it’s fine. I really don’t care. I just. When you are ready, you can tell me who it is. I won’t judge you or anything.”
“I know you won’t. Is that what Dustin was on in the car the other day? He knows too?”
Julie groans. “Yes. I swear I told him to drop it, but he is convinced that something’s up. I can’t get him to stop talking about it.”
Steve snorts. “Yeah, well, that’s Dustin for you.”
“I’ve learned.”
Steve walks around the island, giving Julie a hug. “How about we talk to Sarah about making this permanent at the next inspection. We can start on the whole process.”
“That sounds good.”
“Hey,” Steve crouches down a bit to get on her level. “You’re my sister, and I love you. That’s not a temporary thing, ok.”
Julie smiles. “Ok.”
She pulls out her homework from her bag and gets started, already wanting to pull her hair out with her math homework. Steve gets started on dinner, distracting her with some work stories from the previous day. It all is making her feel at home. Real home.

Love Is A Battlefield - Eddie Munson & Steve Harrington
A/N: aaaaaaaahhhh xD omg! so I have no idea how this happened but it did, I ended up mixing two similar but just as awesome requests so I hope you loves like it! :D
Requests -  marvelsbitchh asked: I love steddie so much! I have so many ideas lol. Okay so, could i request a steddie x reader imagine where instead of Eddie buying more time with the bats, reader is in Eddie's place and bought more time and got hurt, and Eddie is the one who finds her. He like freaks out and Dustin comes and helps Eddie bring us to the hospital. We survive but we were in a coma and wake up a week later. Both Eddie and Steve are there (i forgot to mention that we're already dating steddie) and get angry and yell at you because they were so scared. They realise reader is crying/upset and realise what they're doing and quickly apologize and just fluff at the end lol. Sorry if this sucked i'm not the best at requesting things
- spideysbae asked: eddie doesn't sacrife himself, the reader does and they send her to the hospital, but since eddie is still wanted for murder he can't go an visit her, so everyday when steve goes to visit her, eddies like "give this to her please, and read it to her" and he gives steve an letter and steve reads to the reader and everyday eddie just writes a new letter and steve reads it to reader, who is in coma or smt like that. Then one day, steve sneaks eddie into the hospital to see her and he just cries into steve's shoulders
Warnings: spoilers for S4E8 (kinda) reader gets badly hurt and is in a coma for a few weeks (also this focuses more on Steddie because of that, principally in Steve trying to keep it together 🥺); Eddie and Steve being mad at the reader for being reckless; angsty but with a happy ending, and let me know if there’s anything I missed :D
Disclaimer: I don’t own Stranger Things :D gif isn’t mine :)
Your name: submit What is this?

Love Is A Battlefield
We are strong No one can tell us we're wrong Searching our hearts for so long
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit!” you muttered to yourself as you pedaled faster than you’ve ever had before.
You had no idea how you found yourself here. Okay, that wasn’t true. You knew why you were riding this bike as if your life depended on it. Because it did… literally depended on it. You went over the plan a million times. You divided into groups. Lucas, Max, and Erica, group one. Back in the normal Hawkins (if you could call Hawkins normal), at Vecna’s house. You, Eddie, and Dustin, group two. In the Upside down, at the trailer park, creating a distraction and buying more time. Nancy, Steve, and Robin, also Upside Down, but at Vecna’s house. Your instructions were simple enough. Stay there, buy some time, if things go south, go back. Simple enough, right? But no, after Dustin made it back, you turned to look at Eddie, and before you knew it your legs were running out of the trailer, locking the door from outside and leaving him screaming at you.
“Jesus Christ! Princess, get the fuck back here!” you could still hear Eddie screaming but you were getting further away.
And then it dawned on you. You didn’t really have a plan. All you were thinking was that Eddie and Steve needed to get back safely. And for that, you needed more time. And for that, you needed Eddie to stay back and be safe. When you were far enough, you stopped. You got down from the bike, grabbed the shield Eddie made for you, and the bat Steve made for you. And you saw them come. It was more than you remembered. You felt your heart racing faster than you had before but there was no backing down now. You gripped your weapon and shield tighter and you were ready for whatever had to come. It shouldn’t be that bad, right? Steve got bitten and he was okay. Although there weren’t as many. And there were more of you to deal with them. But whatever, as long as your boys were fine… that’s what matters. You had to do this for them. Eddie and Steve were always protecting you and taking care of you. And now, you have to take care of them. So you braced yourself for what was coming.
“COME ON!” you yelled as the cloud of demo-bats got closer, circling around you. You managed to swing a few away. But, as you feared, there were so many. “Fuck!”
You felt them attacking your left arm. Then your leg. Then your other arm. And then… then they were all over you. You couldn’t do anything else. Some of them were pulling at you so hard, you felt your arms were gonna be ripped apart. Some of them were eating away at your sides. As you yelled and cried in pain, you tried to think of something to get your mind off it. You were doing this for Eddie and Steve. Steve and Eddie, who you loved and who loved you. Eddie and Steve, whose eyes you’ll probably never look at again. Whose hands will never run down your body now being eaten by demo-bats. Whose hands you’ll never get to hold again. And then, all of the sudden, everything stopped. You saw the demo-bats fall down to the floor at once. Everything hurt. Everything.
“(Y/N)!” you heard a distant yell. You opened your eyes but everything seemed to be spinning around. You were terrified to look down at your body because you were certain that everything was going to look even worse than how it felt. “Love!” Eddie fell to his knees next to you. “Princess, look at me” he cried, holding you in his arms and pulling you towards him.
“E-Eddie” you smiled, just barely. You didn’t know you still had it in you. But Eddie could always make you smile.
“Shh, listen to me, you’re going to be okay, love” he told you. But you could see tears in his eyes. Eddie never cried. No, that was a lie. Steve never cried. Eddie always did. “Steve is coming, princess and we’re going to get you out of here, I promise!”
“Eddie, what the fuck!” Dustin said, catching up to you two. “Holy shit!”
“Dustybun” you chuckled, feeling the horrible taste of blood coming out of your mouth. “S-sorry, only Suzie calls you that” you coughed.
“Princess, s-stop talking, love” Eddie said, grabbing anything he could to stop the bleeding in every part of your body. “Dustin, help me get her back to the trailer” he begged, helping you up but regretting it the second he heard your piercing scream. “I’m sorry, love, I’m so sorry, but I need to get you back” he said, trying his hardest to stop the tears.
“I’m s-sorry, love” you said, looking at Eddie. “I d-didn’t mean to make you c-cry-”
“Eddie!” you heard a distant voice. It couldn’t be Steve, could it? They were still too far away. “(Y/N)!”
“Steve!” you heard Eddie yell. “STEVE!”
“EDDIE!” Steve ran as fast as he could and he felt his heart drop when he saw you between Eddie and Dustin. “Eddie, what happened?” he asked, finally reaching the three of you.
“S-Stevie” you smiled weakly. At least you got to see him one last time. Your eyes then started feeling extremely heavy.
“No, no, no, princess! Open your eyes” you could still hear Eddie.
“Sweetheart, look at me! I’m here!” you heard Steve’s voice even closer.
“I just w-wanted to-” you whispered. “I’m sorry” you said. “I love you” was the last thing you said before everything turned black.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Steve, please” Eddie begged for what seemed like the millionth time.
“Eddie, love, we’ve been through this” Steve said, walking over to him. “I can’t let you go” he said, feeling his heart break by the way Eddie looked at him.
“But, Steve! It’s been a week! I haven’t seen her in one week!” he cried. “I can’t-! I can’t take it anymore! I feel like I’m going insane!” he snapped. Steve walked over to his boyfriend and grabbed his hands.
“Eddie, Eddie, love” he said, brushing his hair away from his face and cupping his face between his hands. “I know, love. I know you’re worried, and I know that you miss her” he said, brushing his thumb against his cheek, wiping away his tears. “But you still haven’t been ruled out for the murders” he said, making Eddie cry even more. “They’re still looking for you-”
“But you said Hopper would help-!”
“I know, love and he is doing everything he can” Steve promised. “But until that, I can’t let them find you” Steve said, taking a deep breath and kissing his forehead. “I need you to stay here” he pleaded. “I need you to be safe” he said, kissing him sweetly. “I promise she is going to be okay, and when she wakes up, we’re going to bring her home and then you’re going to take care of her, alright? But for now, you have to stay here, love, please” Steve said, with a small, single tear falling down his cheek which Eddie quickly wiped away.
“Okay, okay, love” Eddie said, hugging him closer. “I’ll stay here” he said, kissing Steve’s cheek.
The truth was, both of them were on edge already. They were able to bring you back, but just barely. You had been in the hospital, in a coma, for a week now. Eddie felt extremely anxious every single day that went by without being able to see you. But he knew Steve was right. Even if Hopper was back and he said he would help in proving Eddie’s innocence, it was still dangerous for him to leave the safehouse he had put them in.
And Steve. Steve was holding it together as best as he could. He was terrified of losing either one of you. He didn’t know when you were going to wake up, because he kept telling himself that you had to wake up. And he was also frightened that something would happen to Eddie.
“I’m sorry, love” Steve said, burying his face on Eddie’s shoulder, just needing him as close as possible. “It’s just-”
“I know” Eddie stroked his back, and kissed his head. “It’s a lot, love” he whispered. “I just miss her” he whispered.
“I miss her too” Steve said, pulling away and they smiled briefly at each other.
Eddie pulled away and walked over to the coffee table, grabbing a couple of the sheets scattered all around. Both of them silently smiling at the thought that you would have scowled at them already for the mess.
“Could you uh-” he said, giving the page to Steve. “Could you maybe read this for her?” he asked, looking at Steve with his big, brown, doe eyes.
“You wrote to her?” Steve asked, feeling his heart melting a little.
“It’s stupid, I know I just… want her to know that I’m thinking of her” Eddie said, looking away. Steve placed his hand underneath his chin and made him look up again before he kissed him.
“It’s not stupid, love” he assured him. “She would love it” he said. “And you don’t mind me reading it?” he smirked.
“Well, given that the first page is just me complaining about dealing with you and your horrible cooking by myself, I actually kind of need you to read it, because I didn’t know how to bring it up” he chuckled and Steve slapped his arm before Eddie kissed him.
“I’ll be back in a few hours, tops, okay?” Steve promised and Eddie nodded, kissing him once more.
“Okay” Eddie replied as Steve started to make his way outside.
“While I’m out, it wouldn’t hurt if you finally cleaned up the place” he yelled back.
“Love you, Harrington!”
“Love you too, Munson!”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Henderson?” Steve asked, walking into your room. He felt his heart breaking all over again every time he saw you.
“Hey” Dustin said, smiling at him as he replaced some of the flowers on your window. “I was just… visiting Max and… thought I’d stop by” he said.
“How’s she doing?” Steve asked, feeling a little guilty that she was just a couple of rooms down and he hadn’t seen her in a few days.
“She’s hanging in there” Dustin nodded before looking at you. “How's she doing?”
“Same” Steve sighed, walking over to him.
“She’s gonna be okay, Steve” Dustin insisted. “R-right?”
“Yeah” Steve smiled at Dustin. “Of course, man” he said, unsure if he was trying to convince himself more than Dustin.
“How’s uh… the um, banished?”
“He’s hanging in there too” Steve said, sitting down on a chair next to your bed. “He wanted to come” he told Dustin. “And I get it… he misses her” he said.
“Hey, maybe there’s a way we can get him in” Dustin suggested.
“Dustin, but, I know you’d love to help, but no. There’s no way-!”
“No, wait, hold on, give me about ten minutes okay? I just have to talk to Lucas about something” he said, rushing out of the room.
“No, Henderson! Wait-” Steve tried, but Dustin was already out of the room. Steve sighed, turning back to look at you.
He hadn’t been alone with you ever since you were all back. There was always someone else in the room. If he was being honest with himself, he couldn’t really face you. Seeing you so defenseless in that bed made him want to cry every single time. He didn’t want to sound selfish, but he hoped that Eddie could come too. Either to be there with him or just to take turns sometimes because his heart just shattered having to look at your unconscious form on that bed.
“H-hi, sweetheart” he said, turning to you. He wasn’t sure what to do next so he grabbed Eddie’s letter. “Eddie wrote something for you” he smiled sweetly. “Apparently it is about my crappy cooking but…” he laughed a little. “Let’s see what he wrote, okay?”
He grabbed your hand as he started reading the pages and he wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, or the fact that he was sleep deprived, but he could swear that he felt you squeeze his hand back.
“Steve?”
Steve jumped awake on his seat when he felt someone put their hand on his shoulder. He had fallen asleep at some point. He looked around and saw that it was almost dark outside. Shit.
“I’m up!” he replied quickly, looking at Mrs. Byers standing there. “Oh, hi, Mrs. B-” he said, politely as he got up and greeted them.
“Oh, Steve, please, I’ve told you a million times to call me Joyce” she said, politely.
“Right, Joyce” Steve smiled.
“How’s our girl doing?”
“She’s… hanging in there?” Steve sighed.
“What about you?” Joyce asked.
“Well… same answer?” he chuckled.
“You know, sweetie, you don’t always have to keep it together” Joyce said, placing her hand on his cheek.
Steve wasn’t sure what it was. The fact that his girlfriend was lying unconscious on a bed and he had no idea when, or if you were going to wake up. The fact that his boyfriend is being hunted by the same fucking town that he helped save and he can’t leave the house. Or the fact that this is the closest thing to a mother relationship he has felt in God knows how long. But Steve threw his arms at Joyce and felt his eyes watering.
“I’m sorry” he sobbed on her shoulder. “I j-just- I can't-”
“You don’t have to apologize” Joyce said, hugging him back. “This is a lot for you to take on” she said, sweetly. “She’s going to be okay, and Jim is doing everything he can to help Eddie” she assured him. “And we’re all here for you” she said. “Those kids love you three so much” she chuckled, pulling away and wiping Steve’s tears. “Here” she said, grabbing the cooler she brought with her. “We got you guys something, so you don’t have to worry about cooking or any of that” she said, giving it to Steve.
“Thank you, Mrs.- uh- Joyce” Steve said, gratefully. “Apparently, my cooking sucks so” he laughed. “Eddie’s gonna be really happy” he told her.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Alright, on my signal” Steve and Eddie heard Dustin through their walkie-talkie.
“Henderson, are you completely sure about this?” Steve asked, looking back at Eddie, who was lying on the floor of the car, hiding from everyone’s view. A couple of days more had passed and Steve’s kids had come up with a plan to sneak Eddie in the hospital so he could see you.
“Oh, my God! We have been through this a million times, Steve!”
“You know what, Henderson? I am not in the mood for this. Forgive me if I’m a little defensive, but if this goes wrong, they might take my boyfriend away, okay? So, as I said, the humility now and then, it wouldn’t hurt you!” he snapped, frustrated.
“Love, he’s just trying to help” Eddie said, grabbing Steve’s hand.
“Sorry” they heard Dustin on the other side. “I get it, okay? But I promise this will work” he insisted. “Will, Lucas, and Mike are already in place” he continued. “So, just wait for the signal. You both know what to do” he finished.
“Okay, you ready?” Steve asked, looking back at Eddie. “You know what to do, right? You meet Mike and then-”
“Steve, we’ve been through this, love” Eddie said, getting closer and kissing him. “I’ll be okay” he assured him. “I just need to see her” he begged.
“I know” Steve said, kissing his forehead. “See you on the other side?”
“See you on the other side” Eddie nodded, kissing him quickly again before they went their separate ways.
Steve kept pacing around your room after what felt like hours waiting for his signal. While Lucas and Will were creating a distraction from everyone at the reception, Dustin and Mike were putting Dustin’s plan into motion to sneak Eddie inside to see you. His part was easy. He just had to go into your room, as he always did, and then wait for the signal to go into the bathroom, behind the shower curtain, where there was a loose ceiling tile. How the kids did, and knew all of this? He didn’t even want to know. But he would be forever grateful if everything worked out. Steve saw the flashlight on the window from the room in front of yours. Max’s room. That was Erica. So he went over to the bathroom and did what he had to do, letting Eddie fall from the ceiling.
“Hi, love” Steve smiled as he helped him down.
“Hey” Eddie smiled nervously.
“You ready?” Steve said, holding his hand and Eddie nodded.
Steve led Eddie out of the bathroom and into your room. As soon as Eddie’s eyes laid on you, his eyes watered, his heart raced to what felt like a million beats per minute, and his hands started shaking.
“Oh my God!” he whispered, kneeling next to your bed and grabbing your hand. “What’s all-?” he started. “Why is she hooked on so many things?”
“It’s so they can monitor her and make sure that nothing is wrong, Eddie” Steve said, grabbing his shaking hand.
“She- she looks” he sobbed. “She looks so fragile, Steve” he cried, getting up and burying his head on Steve’s shoulder, unable to look at you any longer.
“I know, love” Steve said, feeling a couple of tears fall from his eyes as he looked at you.
“How can you do this every day?” he whispered. “Y-you were right. I shouldn’t have come… I don’t like seeing her like this” he cried.
“She’s gonna be okay, love” Steve said, kissing his temple. “She’s gonna get better, and we’re gonna bring her home, and Hopper is going to help us with your case and we’re gonna be okay” he said, pulling him closer. “I promise” he said, smiling weakly at Eddie.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
You hadn’t expected to wake up. At all. You were certain that you would never see Steve, or Eddie, or any of your friends ever again. But you did. And being back, was not at all what you thought could be. The day you woke up, Steve and Eddie weren’t there. You weren’t alone. Jonathan, Nancy, and Dustin were with you. As soon as you woke up, Dustin called Steve at Family Video and he came over as soon as he could. But you noticed something different about him. He would not make eye contact with you. When he held your hand, he squeezed it a little too tight, but you thought it was just because you were still recovering. Either way, another thing was that he was never alone in the room with you, which you didn’t really mind, but you thought by this point, you would have been able to talk to him. Especially since you were caught up about Eddie still being wanted and not being able to be there. And you missed him so much.
The day you were released finally came. Steve was supposed to come get you after he was done with work but since Joyce was there, visiting Max with Will, she offered to give you a ride and you couldn’t get out of there fast enough back home to your boys. So you accepted. The ride felt longer than anything had in your life but you didn’t care. You were finally back. Patched up and wounded, but back.
“Are you sure you don’t need me to come help settle you in?” Joyce asked once she parked on the driveway of the small cabin where you saw Steve’s car.
“Really, you’ve done more than enough, Joyce” you said, giving her a big hug.
“Okay, call me if you need anything else, alright?” she smiled as you got out of the car.
“Thanks, Joyce” you said, closing the door. “Bye, Will” you said, hugging him as he got off the car to get into the front seat.
“Bye, (Y/N)” Will said before getting in and them driving away.
You took a deep breath and started making your way up to the door. You could hear Steve and Eddie discussing something inside but you couldn’t really make up the words. You wanted to open the door but then you remembered this was a different house. This wasn’t your old home, and it was most likely locked because of Eddie’s situation. So, instead, you knocked.
“Who’s that?” Eddie said, looking at the door, as Steve felt his heart drop.
“Go to the room” he instructed.
“Steve-”
“Now, Eddie” he said, widening his eyes at him and Eddie nodded, walking away. Steve made his way over to the door with his bat nearby just in case.
“S-Steve?”
He dropped the bat. He knew that voice. He heard Eddie coming out of the room in less than a second
“Is that-?”
“Eddie?”
It didn’t take long for Steve to open the door and reveal you on the other side.
“(Y/N)!” they said at the same time, standing there, not doing anything else. They both seemed afraid to even touch you. Steve scanned the area just quickly enough to make sure nobody else was there before he pulled you inside.
“Hi” you smiled at them, expecting hugs, kisses, or at least a smile, but nothing came.
“How did you get here?” Steve asked, still looking back just to make sure nothing else happened.
“Joyce gave me a ride. She was visiting Max and the doctor said it was okay for me to be discharged and-”
“I told you I was going to come get you in a few hours, I just came over to change” Steve said, getting upset. Your heart broke a little.
“Steve-” Eddie tried.
“You should have called me” Steve added.
“I didn’t… know what time you got off work and I thought I could um-” you said, grabbing Eddie’s letters from your bag and smiling back at them. “I thought I could make lunch for us” you told them. “Joyce even stopped by the grocery store so I could get everything to make your favorite” you smiled at them.
“Y-you shouldn’t be doing all this work, princess” Eddie said, grabbing the things from you. His heart breaking at the sight of the bandages on your arms. But you could only concentrate on one thing. Princess. You hadn’t heard that in so long. “I’ll make lunch, you just get some rest, okay?” he smiled weakly at you and made his way over to the kitchen.
“Oh” you said, feeling dejected. “O-okay” you told him, trying not to sound so upset.
Steve sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m gonna go take a shower” he said, kissing your head quickly and leaving towards the bedroom.
You couldn’t help but feel your heart breaking a little. Something was off. These weren’t your boyfriends. They didn’t even seem happy to have you back. You tried to shake the feeling off and decided to follow Eddie to the kitchen.
“Hi” you smiled, shyly.
“Hey, princess” Eddie smiled at you, before going back to cooking. “You’re supposed to be resting” he told you.
“I feel very well rested” you said, walking closer to him. “Can I help?”
“I got it-”
“Eds” you said, making him look at you. He could see the pleading in your eyes. You were giving him that look that he knew he couldn’t say no to. “Please?”
“Yeah, okay” he sighed.
You grabbed some of the vegetables from the bag and a knife so you could start mincing. You didn’t remember the last time you felt shy around Eddie or Steve. They had always made you feel so comfortable, and love, and save. And now, you felt like you were walking on eggshells. They hadn’t even hugged you. And you missed their hugs so much. But there was so much tension in the air. All you wanted to do was jump into their arms and have them kiss you and spoil you and cuddle you like they used to. You couldn’t even find the courage to ask Eddie how he was. You have no idea what had been going on here since you all came back from the Upside Down but you knew something wasn’t right. You were so lost in your own thoughts, you didn’t even notice Steve coming back into the kitchen.
“I thought Eddie said he would cook” he said, looking at you.
“Uh, I just wanted to help” you tried.
“You should be resting” Steve said, sternly.
“Steve” Eddie warned him as you tried your best to act as if nothing was going on and kept on mincing the mushrooms. But, without meaning to, you cut your finger.
“Shit” you muttered, making your way over to the sink. And that’s when all hell broke loose.
“What happened?” Eddie asked, turning to you.
“Nothing, I just cut myself, is not a big deal” you said putting your finger under water and grabbing one of the towels.
“For fuck’s sake! This is why Eddie told you he would cook!” Steve snapped, as the two of them walked over to you. “Why can’t you ever just listen?!”
“It was an accident” you frowned, confused. “And it’s not even that deep, I just need a bandage-”
“That’s not the point” Eddie said, in a lower tone, but equally angry. “The point is that you just keep doing whatever the fuck you want and you keep getting hurt” he said, glaring at you.
“E-excuse me-?”
“Oh don’t play dumb now!” Steve chuckled angrily. “Not after that shit you pulled on the Upside Down!”
“W-what are you talking about-?”
“What are we talking about?” Eddie said, as he still grabbed your hand, cleaned it up, and place a bandage around your finger. “This” he said, pulling your hand up and pointing at your bandages. “This is what we’re talking about! You almost got yourself killed!”
And then it made sense. They were mad, no, they were furious at you, for what you did.
“I didn’t-” you tried, but you felt your throat tightening. “I just thought-”
“You thought?” Steve snapped. “No, you weren’t thinking!” he said, getting closer to you. “We told you to do one thing. One” he said, with a few tears escaping his eyes. “Don’t play the hero” he said.
“I w-wasn’t trying to-”
“YOU STILL DID!” Steve yelled. Steve never yelled at you. Or Eddie. “We told you that if things went south you had to come back here, with Eddie and Dustin! And you decided to leave! You decided to lock Eddie in the trailer and run out there so all the fucking bats could have a fucking feast on you!”
“N-no, it wasn’t like that-”
“It doesn’t matter!” Steve cut you off. “It doesn’t matter because that’s what happened!”
“Steve” Eddie tried, knowing this could only get worse.
“No! She doesn’t get to do this!” Steve pulled away from Eddie and glared at you. “You don’t get to come here and act as if nothing happened!”
“That’s not what-”
“You’re not the one that had to wake up to Eddie screaming from nightmares of you literally dying in his arms!” he said, pointing at Eddie who looked away from you. “You’re not the one that had to see one of the people you love the most, unconscious in a hospital bed hooked to so many machines and having no idea if you were going to wake up!” he continued, and you now noticed Eddie was crying as well. You made them both cry. You felt your heart breaking into a million pieces. “I had to come and find you almost dead in Eddie’s and Dustin’s arms” he explained. “We had to carry you all the way back and then I had to drive you over to the hospital, trying to make sure that you wouldn’t bleed to death” he said, with tears falling down his eyes as you tried your hardest to contain yours. “I had your blood all over me” he kept going as more angry tears kept falling down his cheeks. “I heard you die” he said, with his voice shaking and you felt your heart drop. Nobody had told you that. And you were certain that Eddie didn’t know about it either because his eyes widened in surprise, looking at Steve. “When I brought you in, you died for like a minute and they had to bring you back. And I heard it” he said, crying harder. “And I couldn’t do anything because you had lost so much blood and I don’t have your blood type but Eddie does, but he couldn’t be there because he had to stay hidden” he yelled.
“Steve, you never told me that” Eddie said, with his deep, quiet voice, pulling his boyfriend closer.
“I didn’t want to” Steve muttered. “You were already blaming yourself” he said, making you feel even worse. “He was blaming himself for not being able to save you” Steve glared at you a little. “He blamed himself for what you did” he told you.
You finally had let your tears fall. You couldn’t take it anymore. You failed them. Eddie was blaming himself, having nightmares, and he couldn’t even try to get back to a normal life because he had to stay hidden. And Steve. Steve had tried to keep everything together. Like he always did. And you weren’t there for him. You left him. Your plan failed. You did what you thought you needed to do to help them and get them out of there safe, but instead, you broke them.
“I’m s-sorry” you said with a shaky, quiet voice, making Steve and Eddie look back at you but you didn’t dare look back at them. You remembered how afraid you were when Eddie had disappeared after Chrissy’s death and you couldn’t find him, and you had no idea if he was okay. And you remembered how terrified the first time you went to the Upside Down and found Steve being eaten by the same demo-bats you tried to fight. And you did the same thing to them. To both of them at the same time. You found yourself squatting down on the kitchen floor as tears ran down your cheeks. All you wanted was for them to hug you and to make everything that happened in the past weeks go away. But you didn’t even feel worthy of their hugs anymore. You didn’t feel worthy of their love anymore. “I’m so sorry” you said, pulling your knees to your chest. “I didn’t mean to do that” you said, wiping away your tears. “I just got scared that we were running out of time” you admitted. “And I didn’t want you to get hurt” you said, still looking at the floor. “Either one of you” you told them. “I love you two so much a-and” you stuttered. “You always take care of me and you always protect m-me and I just…” you sighed. “I just wanted to help” you said, hugging yourself. “I just wanted both of you to be safe” you cried a little harder, resting your head on your knees.
And then… then you felt it. You felt two pairs of arms wrapping around you and pulling you to them. You were back. You were back in their arms and you were safe. You were all safe. You felt soft kisses being pressed against your head and forehead as you kept crying.
“Shh, it’s okay, princess” Eddie said, stroking his back.
“N-no, it’s not” you complained, still not wanting to let go of them. “Y-you were right” you said. “I know what I d-did was reckless a-and stupid and I w-wasn’t thinking, and now I have these stupid ugly scars all over me” you sobbed. “I just w-wanted for you to be okay and instead I hurt you and I made you worry about me, a-and I made you have nightmares a-and-”
“No, sunshine” you heard Steve, pulling you a little closer to him. Sunshine. You also hadn’t heard that in so long. “I’m so sorry” he said, kissing your head. “I didn’t mean to snap at you” he said, holding your hand in his. “I know you were just doing what probably any of us would have done” he told you.
“We were just scared” Eddie said, shedding a few tears again. “We thought we had lost you. But now we have you back” he said, giving you a peck on the lips.
“We missed you so much” Steve cried, kissing you softly as well.
“I m-missed you too” you said, resting your head on Steve’s shoulder as you grabbed Eddie’s hand, playing with his rings. “I’m glad you two are okay” you muttered silently as Steve kissed the side of your head while Eddie kissed your hand. “So, my plan kind of worked” you said, looking up at Eddie who let out a small chuckle.
“Don’t push it, princess” he warned you.
“I really am sorry” you told them, looking up at them.
“We know, sunshine” Steve said, hugging you tighter. “So are we. And we’re just happy you’re okay” he said as they got up, helping you up with them.
“You want to help me finish lunch?” Eddie smiled, pulling you closer.
“No” Steve said, pulling you over and kissing your forehead. “We’ll make lunch. You can just stay here and relax” he said, going back to Eddie.
“But Eddie hates your cooking” you smiled and Steve placed his hands over his heart.
“Alright, it’s not funny anymore” he glared at you and then at Eddie.
“Yes, it is, love” Eddie said, giving him a peck on the lips.
“Hey, sweetheart, I have a question” Steve said as he pulled everything out of the bag. “Why didn’t you get anything to make your favorite?”
“Oh, I just wanted to cook for you two today” you smiled at them.
“Well, lucky for you, we actually made your favorite for desert” Eddie said, grabbing plates filled with everything sweet that you loved so much. You felt your heart flutter and your eyes water again but for a completely different reason. “You didn't think we weren’t going to spoil our girl when she came back from the hospital, right?” he smiled at you and you went over to kiss each one of them.
“Thank you” you said, as Steve hugged you closer to him. “One question, though” you said. “Did Steve cook it or-?”
“Okay, now it’s starting to hurt!” Steve said, glaring at you playfully. But he couldn’t help but smile at you and leaned down to kiss you again. “I love you” he said, looking at you and then at Eddie.
“Me too” Eddie said walking over and kissing you both as well.
“Me three” you said, snuggling back in their arms.

In case you wanna read on Ao3 instead
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4
Senior year. You’ve almost made it, you’re almost OUT! You and your best friend, Nancy Wheeler, have spent the last 4 years planning for college and your escape from Hawkins, and now it’s just 9 short months away. You’re practically counting the days.
“I’m just saying,” Nancy says as she bites into a carrot stick. “One or two dates. It wouldn’t hurt either of us. Don’t you want to date before you go to college?”
“I have dated,” you say with a frown. “It wasn’t for me.”
She rolls her eyes. “Hooking up with a few guys at a few different parties is hardly dating,” she says. She leans in closer, lowering her voice so none of the cafeteria busybodies will overhear. “You know I love you and all your convictions, but my parents won’t let me date until you do, and I really. Really. Want to go out with Steve. Just once! Please?”
You huff and drum your fingers against the table. You aren’t 100% sure about Steve, but Nancy tends to be a good judge of character, so if she likes him...
“Fine!!” you say. Nancy beams and claps her hands in delight. You hold up a hand to quell her enthusiasm. “But I’m not going out with one of Steve’s idiot jock buddies. Find me someone interesting.”
Nancy stares at you. “Sweetie, no offense, but...what the hell does that mean?”
“I mean, like, I don’t know. Someone not like Steve. Think of Steve, then go the opposite direction.”
Her face twists in thought. “I’ll talk to Steve.”
“Do that,” you say, grabbing your tray. “In the meantime I have chem.” You walk away, confident that they won’t find anyone. Steve’s friend circle is small, and it’s almost exclusively jocks—except, strangely, for Robin Buckley; that’s not a pair you ever would’ve pictured. You’re sure they won’t find anyone who meets your criteria. The peace and quiet of your senior year will remain undisturbed.
---
Eddie Munson has probably spoken 2 words to Steve Harrington in his entire life, yet now he’s nearly positive Steve is waving...at him. And heading...his way. Eddie glances over his shoulder, but the coast is clear. Just him. And Steve. Making a beeline right for him.
That can’t be good.
“Hey! Munson! You got a sec?!”
Steve Harrington knows his name? That really can’t be good. Eddie shifts his notebook from one arm to the other and shrugs a little. “Kinda on my way somewhere.”
“Right, yeah, your Hellfire thing. Dustin Henderson and Mike Wheeler are in that, right?”
Now Eddie is thoroughly nonplussed. Even more than he was before. “Yeah,” he says. “Is that a problem?”
“Nah, man, not at all!” Steve runs a hand through his ridiculous hair and grins. “They’re kinda friends of mine. I mean, Dustin is. Sorta. And Mike’s his buddy, so...” Steve swallows and glances around. “Okay, look, this is kinda weird, but...you know Mike’s older sister, Nancy?”
“Uh huhh,” Eddie says, drawing the syllable out in suspicion. He starts toward the media room, hoping Steve’ll get the hint, but he just falls in next to him.
“Nancy’s cool. Really, really cool. And smart. Probably too good for a schlub like me,” Steve says, which makes Eddie snort.
“False humility ain’t your look, man.”
Steve peers at him, but then blinks it away. “Anyway, I really wanna ask her out, but her parents have this weird rule...” He explains the Wheelers’ bizarre and frankly antiquated rule that their precious daughter can’t date until her friends do—one friend in particular. You.
“Do you think maybe you could ask her out? She agreed to go out with someone so Nancy and I could date, but she requested someone, uh.” Steve clears his throat. They’re at the media room by now, and he stops. Shoves his hands in his pockets. “Someone...weird? Uh. Not at all like me, were her words.”
Eddie snorts. Is this a joke? He’s seen Carrie like 50 times and he has no intention of being the sad girl covered in pigs’ blood; especially since he doesn’t have any psychic powers to get his awesome, fiery revenge.
“You’re fuckin’ with me, right?” he says. “I might be stoned, but I’m not stupid. No way a friend of Nancy Wheeler’s would go out with Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson.”
Steve shifts his weight from one foot to the other. He told Nancy this was a bad idea. “Look, man, I swear I’m being straight with you. She’s cool, okay? A little bit touchy and, like, grumpy? I guess? But cool. She’s into that Dungeons and Dragons stuff too. You can ask her to join Hellfire! She’d probably say yes.”
He gives Eddie big, hopeful puppy eyes, and as much as Eddie wants to tell him to fuck off, some part of him can’t. He’s noticed you around school; he has eyes. You’re cute and definitely smart and probably way out of his league...but fuck it. It’s not like his stock could plummet much further, and if you really are into D&D, it’d be cool to have a girl in the club.
“Yeah, fine, whatever. Not gonna promise anything, but I’ll talk to her. If she wants to join Hellfire, fine. If not, you’re on your own. Find another patsy. Got it?”
“Yes! Thank you! You’re a lifesaver!” He slaps Eddie’s shoulder. “I promise you won’t regret it! I can even pay for your date. Just lemme know where you’re gonna take her. I’ll throw in a little extra for your trouble.”
Pay him. To date a cute girl. There are worse ways to make money. “Cool. I’ll see if I can talk to her tomorrow.” He pauses and studies Steve through narrowed eyes. “If you’re fuckin’ with me--”
“Swear I’m not!”
“Fine. But if I get kicked in the nuts I’m comin’ after you.”
“Fair enough. Thanks, Munson. Really.” Steve grins again and practically skips away.
Eddie glowers after him. Possibly he just made a huge mistake, but, again, what the hell? Maybe he’ll get a chance to chat up a cute girl; maybe he’ll get kicked in the nuts. Either way it’ll be something to do.
---
The next day during lunch you’re minding your own business attempting to catch up on the reading for AP English. Nancy is off canoodling somewhere with Steve (or so you suspect), so you’re on your own. Just you and Hamlet.
Hamlet’s hitting existential crisis number 582 (give or take) when you sense someone hovering over your shoulder. You glance back and your eyes narrow when you see Eddie Munson.
He offers a wave and a little smile. “Hi,” he says. “Hey. Um. I’m Eddie.”
“I know who you are.”
“Great! That’s great.” He takes the seat next to you, uninvited, and peeks again at your book. “Hamlet, huh? That’s the guy who banged his mom, right?”
Your mouth quirks. “In some interpretations, sure. But I think you’re thinking of Oedipus Rex.”
“Oedipus! Right. The riddle guy who banged his mom. Yeah, Hamlet’s the one with the ghost dad.”
“Bingo.” You shut your book and set it neatly in front of you. “Can I help you with something?”
“Uh, yeah.” He drums his hands against the table, his rings catching the light, and offers you an awkward smile. “I hear you’re into D&D.”
“Wow. Word gets around about an interest I never talk about or have a chance to indulge in.”
He blinks, then his grin turns sheepish. “Yeah, well. I think Mike Wheeler mentioned it? You’re friends with his sister, right? He’s in my club.” He smooths his shirt. “Hellfire Club.”
“So I’ve heard,” you say, mildly. “Are you selling candy bars or something?”
“Huh? Oh. Ha. No. We’re looking for an extra member for our next campaign. Someone with some experience.”
You eye him a moment. “You know, I tried to join your club freshman year. The guy in charge at the time told me girls didn’t play D&D.”
“He said what?!” He scowls and tugs at a lock of his hair. “Shit. Fuck that. We’re under new management now, and everyone’s welcome. So you in, or...?”
You grab your backpack and slip your book into it. “Listen, Eddie...I don’t know what this is about, but I’m a little busy these days, so I don’t really have time to—”
“Steve Harrington said I should ask you out!” he blurts as you get up to leave.
You freeze a moment before dropping back down into your seat. “You?”
“Yep, me. Sorry, not exactly the Dating Game lottery, huh?”
“Oh, shut up,” you say, rolling your eyes. “You’re fine. Just--well. I did say someone different.” You sigh and shake your head. “Fine. When and where?”
He stares. “The club?”
“No.” You wave a hand. “The date. You are interested in the date, right?”
“Oh!” he says. “The date! Yeah, sure, good. Is it like a double thing with Steve and Nancy, or...?”
This poor boy seems completely out of his element, and he’s kinda cute in a puppy, Muppet sort of way. You take pity on him. “There’s a party this weekend at Sharon Mooney’s. Pick me up at 8.” You scribble your address and the date on a piece of paper and pass it to him. “Don’t be late.”
“A party?!” Steve didn’t say a word about parties. He did NOT sign up for parties! He looks up at you, your brows lifted in a question, and after a moment he gives a resigned nod. “Eight,” he says. “I’ll be there.”
“Great,” you say. You stand up again, so that he’s having to look up at you. “This is strictly for show. No kissing, no touching, no bullshit. We’ll go, have a few drinks, mingle, leave. Got it?”
He blows out a breath and flashes a double thumbs up. “Got it, boss. See you then.”
You give him a brief pat on the head as you go by. “Good boy,” you say, and you don’t see his confused, slightly intrigued expression as you walk away.

In the Bleak Midspring | Steve Harrington
Summary: Spring break comes and the thought of catching up with your boyfriend in Hawkins may include saving the world and heart break.
May contain ST4 spoilers. You’re warned.
Read In the Bleak Midspring part 2 here.
Tumblr media
I’ve been away for college in my hometown. I lived with my dad in Hawkins for a lifetime but things went sour with him and my mom and she said that her life is better in New York with my grandparents. They asked about my opinion on which side I’d pick - I didn’t pick anyone, I just stayed in Hawkins because it was home, my home. My friends are there, the kids are there and Steve is there.
Steve Harrington. We’ve been friends or as he said it years before best friends. We have a lot things in common, here’s some, we’re only child and parents do travel a lot, he’s in the swim team, he was the co-captain of the boys team I was the captain of girls team. He also played basketball and I was in the cheer team.
Through good and bad days I was there for him and he was in mine too. We always microwaved dinners if both of our parents aren’t home. I have to say I have good memories with him.
Not until he started being the “King Steve” and also started dating Nancy. He distance himself suddenly without any explanations, no more dinner together at his house since he started doing parties and drinking. He stopped talking to me as if I was not part of his world. It hurts, I admit but who am I to seek and explanation from him, right?
So, I started to ignore him as well.
------------------------
It was one school day that rumors around the hallway of Hawkins High screamed louder than the cries of an infant child. As what I’ve gathered, Nancy broke up with Steve for Jonathan? I don’t know, I didn’t dig further to really know what happened that night and it’s not for me to attend to as well.
A week passed, Steve and I meet at the hallway during lunch, I was in my cheer uniform at that time and for a second our eyes met and I broke it off immediately.
“Hey.” he called. Ignore him.
“Hey, Y/N!” he said it again as I turned in my back.
“What?” I replied.
He smiled dearly, like those sweet smiles he gave when he begs my mom for me to play him in the rain, “Let’s go eat lunch together outside.”
I rolled my eyes because I’m not quite sure if he’s playing with me or not, “I can just go and eat in the cafeteria, Harrington.”
“So, we’re on the last name basis now?”
“I don’t know, should I call you King Steve instead?”
“Steve would be fine.” he rebutted.
I chucked in dismay, “What the fuck is he up to now.”
“I just wanted to have lunch with you, you know -” he stammers “I wanted to catch up with you, since I’ve lost you with this -” he sighed, “I just want to eat and talk with my best friend like what we do before.”
I can see and feel that he is truly genuine in his words - so I gave him a chance to restore what we had before.
------------------------
Here we are now, I came back to Hawkins for Spring Break to see him but there are some things that we need to do before I could have a quality time with my then bestfriend now boyfriend Steve.
I was not in town when things started happening. Hell, I was not in contact with Steve since I got here it was Dustin Henderson who relayed all the information of what is truly happening.
And at this time, I’m so confused as I stand with Max in her trailer home. There was a mention of Vecna, Henry or One and the party has been discussing on how to prevent the four gates opening - god help me get through this. I shifted my attention back and forth to gather all information as I could.
There was a moment of silence after Nancy relayed the things One told her, “Wait,” I said and everyone’s attention is now mine, including Steve’s, “Four gates, four chimes and four deaths. We have three already,” I looked to Max, “and the fourth on will open all seal. And Hawkins will fall.”
They continued to discuss things and the tension is high. I can see that Steve do really care about Nancy, maybe it’s just my mind playing tricks on me but I don’t know. I don’t like this.
Let’s just focus on the important matters here, we will go to War Zone to supply this risky campaign and we just stole an RV, great.
“Hey, Eddie - I don’t like the idea of you driving.” I suggested.
“Oh, Ms. L/N, of course not, I’ll let your man do the driving, I’m just starting her up.” Eddie replied.
Steve faces me, mere inch away from each other, “How do you know that you don’t like the idea of Eddie driving around?”
“Umm,” I smiled, “it’s -” Steve raised his eyebrows.
“Well, there was a time, a lot of times, when it was raining after school that dear Y/N would not have an umbrella or just simply walked to school at morning and then rain started pouring after her cheer practice and would not like to get wet so she just stands at the gym with her lil skirt and white shoes soaked in water and pray tell Y/N that you’re praying for someone to pick you up and drop you at your home.” He laughed. “Then, God answered her many many prayers, Harrington and it is I, who God send to help her.” Eddied taps his chest as he proudly tell this story.
“Wait, you don’t drive your car to school? And why wouldn’t you tell me that you needed a lift?” Steve said with a hint of jealousy in his voice.
“Because you were not there Steve, you were with -” I glanced to Nancy.
I saw the sadness in his eyes after that, “Not yet.” I assured him.
------------------------
On the way there, I laid my back trying to get some rest because I haven’t had any since I stepped my feet to the plane on the way to Hawkins. I was dozing on and off and I could hear Steve talking to Nancy about somethings.
He said about having a family a big family with six kids - how can I keep up to that? He also told her that he wanted to do a little trip with his family him driving as he was doing right now going to adventures leaving Hawkins during break visiting National Parks and visiting beaches and learning how to surf.
As he spoke I try to play it in my head, him on the driver seat, me beside him with those six little nuggets roaming around the RV. I couldn’t help but to smile on the idea. I tried to get up to see if he was smiling as he tell Nancy about his future, our future. I glanced at the rear view mirror and it felt like a spear stuck in my heart, he was looking at Nancy with hope, I guess.
Then, it clouded me, that maybe it’s not me in his dreams. It was Nancy after all.
I close my eyes and fell back to sleep to ease my aching heart.
------------------------
After we gathered the supply, we stopped on an empty lot to prepare the tools. I just wanted to ran away now and hop on plane back to New York and forget about Hawkins and Steve but I can’t. I can’t leave them especially Max, I wanted her to have a shoulder to lean on at this time.
I was standing in the meadows breathing fresh air as the wave of grass follows along the sound of the wind.
Then an arm wrapped my waist and head leaned on my shoulder. “How are you?” Steve said.
“I’m fine, I’m okay.” I lied.
“Are you sure? Because you’re here, standing like for what, ten minutes?”
“Oh, really? It’s must been because I’ve tried to breathe so much clean air because New York doesn’t offer this.” I chuckled.
“Hmm, then move back to Hawkins again.” Steve suggested.
I sighed and closed my eyes, I’m on the verge of breaking down at this point.
“It’s just that I’ve missed you so so much and when the time permits when we can be together this happened as well. And you know that I can’t leave Nancy,” It’s her, it’s been her all along, “and the rest of the gang especially the kids. You know how much I love them right? And if saving the world would still make them smile, like that,” he pointed at Dustin and Eddie running around with their make shift spear, “I would offer my life to keep peace in Hawkins.”
I gulped, “Yeah, I know.” I faced him, “It’s just that I have a feeling that this may not work this time.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know, I have this sinister feeling inside that’s eating me up and making me lose all hope that I have.” I tried to look him in the eyes but I avoided it. I don’t want him to see what I truly wanted to say.
“Hey,” Steve hugged me tightly, “Are we, are we okay? I’m sorry if I haven’t picked you up at the airport, I’m sorry that I did not spend time with you as soon as you got here, I’m sorry -”
I broke from his embrace, “Steve, it’s okay. Our relationship is the last thing that you need to care about this time. I understand that.” I smiled as I walk away from him.
I jogged to Eddie and Dustin as I laughingly told them to stop before killing each other.
------------------------
The plan has been set and I am insisting that I’m better off with Eddie and Dustin distracting the bats. I preferred to be on their team than to be with Steve.
“Y/N, me and Nancy would be in the Phase four.” Steve suggested.
They all nodded and agreed, “I think, it’ll be better if I’m with Dusty and Munson since - I  can - um,” I said as I gesture my hand to find the words.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, no. No. No.” Steve argued back, “You can’t those things are not as pleasant as you think it is.”
“I know.” I answered.
“And they might have rabies Y/N, rabies.” Robin confronted me.
“I know.” I repeated.
Eddie looked confused, “I mean, if you’re with Harrington he’ll definitely can protect you Y/N.”
“It’s not about protecting me Eds, god,” I mumbled, “Rob hated rabies, you clearly specify that on the ride.”
“And have you seen what they’ve done to me, Y/N.” Steve hissed to me.
“Yeah, I know. But I wanted to be with Dustin and Eddie, I get a chance to choose who I wanted to be with, right?”
“I can just go with Eddie instead,” Nancy offered, “You, Steve and Robin could be at the Creel House.”
“We need you Nancy.” Steve stated, “And yeah, if she doesn’t want to be with me, it’s okay.”
“It’s not about being with you or not, Steve. I think I’ll be a great help -” I insisted.
“Great help with Eddie and not me? What the hell is wrong with you Y/N. I’m trying to make mends with your right now and I even asked Robin to be with Dustin and Eddie even if she argued back and forth how she doesn’t like those bats and shits and now you’re whining like a little spoiled brat!”
I wanted to argue with him more, I wanted to but my tears betrayed me as they rolls to my cheek.
“Hey, hey, hey, Steve, lower it down,” Dustin walks toward Steve, “Its probably because,”
“She’s just new to this and haven’t grasped Vecna or One or Henry, so that’s why she wanted to be with us. She’ll be a great help with us, right Henderson?” Eddie explained and Dustin nodded immediately.
I wiped my tears and covered my face with my hands, I’m so fucking embarrassed right now.
“If she wanted to help she would not be like this, like doing some acting shit - it’s not New York after all she’s not at her acting school.” Steve whispered.
“Hey, Steve stop it. That’s enough.” Robin warned him.
“Really Harrington?” I raised my voice, “Go fuck yourself.” As I exited the circle.
“Okay, that settles, Lady Y/N will be in our team.” Eddie finalized.

If I Rescue You, Will You Rescue Me, Too? Part 15
I am seriously enjoying how much you all love my Mrs Harrington. She is so fun to write. And while we aren’t there yet, she absolutely will go for Mr Harrington’s jugular. She’s been building a case for five years. She’s going to bury him. :D
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13  Part 14
***
Steve sat at the fanciest restaurant in town in just his jeans and a polo shirt. He felt a little out of place, but he knew if it really bothered him, he could change in the restroom.
“I’m sorry, Steven,” Mrs Harrington began. “I had been finding out so many horrible things about your father over the last few years and to learn that he kept your injuries from me as well? That was the final straw.”
Steve grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze. “You didn’t know. Hell, I didn’t know either. I think he was trying to keep us apart.”
Mrs Harrington sighed. “You’re probably right. Because if we compared notes...” she trailed off.
“Then we would be able figure out what a douchebag he was sooner,” Steve agreed.
Mrs Harrington laughed. “So your father was telling me you were seeing someone new.”
Steve blushed. “Yeah, it’s very new. We went to a concert in Indy last weekend and ended up realizing we both felt that same.”
“That’s so sweet,” Mrs Harrington cooed. “What’s her name?” Steve blushed harder and deeper and she cocked her head knowingly. “Or his?”
Steve’s head shot up and his jaw dropped. “What?”
She covered his hand with her other hand. “Darling, your father might be an ignoramus but I am not. I was one the few DAs in the state that were fighting to get rid of the sodomy laws in Indiana.” She tilted her head and smiled. “Plus you clearly had a crush on John Travolta.”
Steve sputtered. “Really?”
“Oh yes,” Mrs Harrington said. “You had to have your hair just like his in that musical he did with Olivia Newton John.”
“Oh god,” Steve muttered. “I do remember that. And here I was thinking it was a new thing. Something that only came about because of him.”
Mrs Harrington smiled warmly at her son. “Tell me all about this boy.”
And so Steve did.
“He sounds wonderful my darling,” she said once he was done. “Would you have gone to his house tonight if I hadn’t joined you?”
Steve nodded. “Or my best friend Robin.”
“Boy or girl?” Mrs Harrington asked.
And so Steve launched into Robin, which of course led to the kids and then still being friends with Nancy and Jonathan.
“Sounds like you were building a life for yourself,” she said gently, “while I was building a divorce case against your father. I’m sorry I wasn’t there, love. But I promise to be from now on.”
Steve nodded, fighting back tears. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.”
They finished their dinner and Mrs Harrington paid the bill. “Do you mind if I borrow your car for tonight until I can get mine out of storage tomorrow?”
Steve shook his head. “I don’t work tomorrow so that should be fine.”
She smiled brightly at him. “Where would you prefer I drop you off, Eddie’s or Robin’s?”
Steve blushed. “Would–would you like to meet Eddie?”
“Yes!” she said jumping up and down. “Of course I would!”
Steve jutted his thumb at the payphones. “I’m going to call him so you don’t give him a heart attack.”
“Fair enough.”
Steve waited as the phone rang, his heart in his hand. His mom wanted to meet his boyfriend.
“Hello?”
“Eddie?” Steve asked.
“Stevie!” Eddie greeted. “Hey, you need me to come get you?”
“No, but I will need a place to stay,” Steve explained. “Can I stay at yours?”
“Of course you can,” Eddie agreed. “I’ll just make the bed in the spare room.” He paused for a second. “Steve...I have a spare room...”
Steve’s heart soared. “Yes, you do, babe.” He chuckled when he heard his boyfriend giggle on the other end. “Uh...there is one thing you should know before I get there though.”
“What that, sweetheart?”
“He kicked both of us out,” Steve whispered.
“Both?” Eddie asked. “...Your mom, too?”
Steve nodded even though he knew Eddie couldn’t see. “Yeah, um... apparently he didn’t tell her all the times I got hurt.”
“Holy shit. Does she need some place to stay too? I mean you can share my bed and she can have the spare room.”
“That’s sweet of you, Eds,” Steve said. “But she has some place to stay. She had been planning on divorcing my dad for a while so...because she’s Allison Harrington she had a escape route ready.”
“Wow.”
Steve took a deep breath and let out slow.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Eddie asked. “Are you okay?”
“She wants to meet my boyfriend.”
There was silence on the line for so long that Steve worried the line went dead. “Eddie?” he said, his voice starting to quiver.
“Boyfriend,” Eddie repeated. “She knows it’s a boy?”
“Yeah, she guessed when I told her I was seeing someone,” Steve admitted shyly.
“Wow,” Eddie breathed. “And you told her about me?”
“Of course I did,” Steve said with a sigh of relief. “So would it be okay if you met her?”
“Yes!” Eddie said. “Of course, Stevie.”
“I’ll be there soon, love,” Steve said.
“Bye, babe.”
Steve hung up the phone and went out to meet his mom.
She cupped his cheek. “Everything all right, sweetie?”
Steve nodded. “It was just a shock. When I speak of you and dad, it’s, it’s not...”
“Flattering?” she asked softly.
He shook his head. “I mean it’s most Dad and I did use you as a reference for both my jobs, but...”
“But I haven’t been around.”
“Yeah.” Steve hung his head.
“It’s nothing to worry about,” she said. “I understand. Besides it’ll be more fun this way.”
Steve looked up at her in confusion.
“I get to surprise them!” she said gleefully.
Steve laughed. “You’ll certainly do that.”
*
The drive to the Munsons’ new house was filled with laughter and stories.
“He thought it was a regular dog,” Steve was saying. “Until it ate his cat.”
“Oh no!” Mrs Harrington said through her giggles. “That poor cat.”
“Yeah,” Steve agreed, a bright smile on his face when they pulled up to the house.
“There’s going to be boxes and shit everywhere because they’re still moving in,” he warned her as they got his luggage out of the trunk.
She smiled brightly. “I’m in no place to judge anyone’s housekeeping. As they have one and I don’t. Well, not yet anyway.”
They walked up to the door and knocked.
Uncle Wayne opened the door. “Won’t you come in?” As he led them to the front room, he called, “Eddie! Your boy is here!”
Steve blushed. Apparently Eddie had already told him about his mom knowing about them.
Eddie came thundering down the stairs. He had clearly put some effort into his appearance. His hair was a little damp from a shower and his clothes were clean. He still wore his ripped jeans and the band t-shirt from last weekend. His feet were barefoot but it was his own house.
“Stevie!” Eddie said happily as he bounded into the room.
Steve went over and picked up his boyfriend and spun him around. Eddie giggled.
“Put me down!” Eddie shrieked.
Steve let him slide down in his arms and gave him a deep kiss. “Hey, sunshine.”
“Hey, sweetheart,” Eddie murmured and kissed him softly. “Do you want to introduce me to your mom?”
Steve let him go, but grabbed his hand as they walked over to her.
“Mom,” he began shyly. “This is my boyfriend, Eddie Munson and his uncle, Wayne.”
Mrs Harrington smiled. “It’s nice to meet you both. I’m Allison Harrington.”
“She’s pretty,” Eddie said. “Now I know where you get your good looks from.”
Steve and Mrs Harrington laughed.
She shrugged. “Eh, his father’s good looks was his only redeeming feature. But thank you.”
Eddie laughed. “At least he has one.”
“His only one,” she agreed. “And his biggest curse, unfortunately.”
“Would you like a drink before you go?” Wayne asked. “I don’t think we’ve got much other than beer if you want something stronger than soda or water.”
She shook her head. “I really need to get going. I have so much to do and not a lot of time to do it in.”
Mrs Harrington kissed Steve on the cheek. “We’ll meet up for lunch and I’ll give you the car back then, okay?”
“Sure thing, Mom.”
As she turned to leave, she called out over her shoulder. “Bring Eddie and your best friend, too. I’d like to meet her.”
Steve laughed. “She’ll be there!”
She waved and was out the door.
“Holy shit,” Eddie breathed.
“Holy shit,” Steve agreed.
*
“Edmond Joseph Munson,” Robin said, coming to a dead stop about fifteen feet from the table Steve was waiting for them at. “Why is the most beautiful woman in the world sitting with Steve?”
Eddie chuckled. “Isn’t she just gorgeous? Come on, so you can meet her.”
Robin opened her mouth to say no, but squawked when Eddie grabbed her wrist and dragged her over to the table.
Eddie leaned over a pressed a kiss to her cheek. “It’s good to see you again,” he murmured and sat down next to Steve.
“Oooh,” she said gleefully. “I like this one. So polite. You can keep him.”
Steve laughed. “Was going to happen with or without your permission.”
She cocked her head to the side and then nodded. “Good.” She smiled up at Robin who had gone completely red. “You must be Robin. Steven has told me all about you. Every word not spent on Eddie is spent on you.”
Robin smacked Steve. “What do you mean I’m second? I deserve better than that! I’m your Platonic soulmate with a capital P. One week. One week is all it took for me to replaced.” She sighed dramatically.
The woman leaned forward and stage whispered, “Is she always this exuberant?”
Steve laughed. “No.” Robin preened. “Sometimes she’s worse.”
“Hey!” Robin protested. She sat down in a huff.
“Robin this is my mom, Allison Harrington,” Steve said with a small smile.
“Oh!” she said. “Wow, yeah. Hi.” She looked over at Steve. “You never told me your mom was gorgeous.”
Steve cocked his head to the side. “Doesn’t every little boy think his mom is the prettiest woman in the world?” Allison blushed. “I don’t think you would have believed me.”
Robin thought about it for a moment and then nodded. “Fair.”
They got talking and everything just clicked. Steve watched as his favorite people in the world got on like a house on fire. He didn’t think he would have this. Hell, he didn’t think he would survive the final push against the Upside Down, either.
He had a future. And wasn’t that just grand.

Tumblr media
You slam the door shut, holding your face in your hands while you pace back and forth. “Shit, shit, shit.”
Robin nervously chews her lip, fiddling with the belt loops of her jeans. “T-This was an accident, right? I mean, we were caught in the moment.”
A waterfall of tears stream down your face. You put your back against the wall and slide down, curling up in a ball. “I’m so fucking stupid. God, I’m such a horrible girlfriend. I’m a horrible person.”
Robin sits down across from you, putting her hand on your knee. “You’re not a horrible person, Y/n.”
You look at up at her, your eyes already bloodshot. “I am, Robin. I just hurt Steve. This is the second time he has been hurt by a girlfriend. I swore to him that o would be better than Nancy, but I’m actually worse. I kissed his best friend. I-I ruined everything. I-It’s all my fault,” you sob.
Robin sighs, debating on what to say. Seeing you break down like this breaks her heart and leaves her a little speechless. You’re always so put together. In the couple of years she’s known you, she has never once seen you cry. But now that she has, she wants to do everything in her power to stop it.
“So what, you kissed me?” Robin asks. “Doesn’t mean anything. Especially since you’ve never been with a girl before, right?”
You hiccup and shake your head. “That doesn’t excuse anything.”
“If you just explain to Steve that it was a mistake and you didn’t like it, then —”
“Robin,” you say, your voice suddenly low and unwavering. You look her in the eyes and sit up. “Do you really think I “got caught up in the moment” and that I didn’t like it?”
Robin looks away, biting her lip anxiously. “N-No. But I don’t want to mess up your relationship.”
“The only person who messed up my relationship was me. You did nothing. You were… perfect.”
“Still, I feel bad,” she mumbles. “I’m sorry for doing this to you and Steve. To you and I,” you say.
Robin chuckles a little, shyly glancing at you. “Are you kidding? That kiss was the highlight of my life. If you weren’t dating Steve, I would have asked you out.”
You give her a watery smile. “The kiss was amazing for me, too.” Your smile diminishes as you continue speaking. “But… I can’t focus on that. I have to figure out a way to make this right with Steve. If he hates me forever, then fine. That’s fine because I deserve that. But I need him to know that I loved him so much and that everything I did and everything I said to him wasn’t a lie.”
“He’ll know, Y/n. Hell, he already knows. You have no idea how much he talks about you at Family Video. And he’s not only saying how pretty you are. He’s always saying how much of a good girlfriend you are, how thoughtful you are, how loving, supportive, funny you are.”
“Oh, Robin,” you sniffle, another cycle of waterworks flooding. “H-He says all of that?”
She nods with a little smile. “Every damn day.”
Your heart breaks more. “That makes me feel even more terrible.”
“No! I’m so sorry. I-I thought it was going to be nice to hear,” Robin apologizes. “I didn’t mean to make you cry again. I’m so sorry.”
“I-It’s okay,” you take a deep breath. “Just makes me realize how great of a boyfriend he is.”
“I hate to admit it, but he is. It makes me really jealous, actually,” Robin chuckles. “You’ll find someone Robin. It’s so much easier to find someone out of high school. I just got lucky,” you say.
She shakes her head. “No, it’s not like that. He makes me jealous because he makes me want you more.”
Your eyes widen and a little “oh” leaves your lips.
“Yeah,” she sighs. “But it doesn’t matter.”
You frown and offer a comforting hand on her arm. “Robin, it does matter. I —”
You two are interrupted when the door opens. Your heart races as you see Steve looking down at you two.
“Hey, what’re you guys doing?” he asks. You panic and look at Robin. You open your mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. You feel like you’re about to throw up.
Robbin’s eyes slowly look away from you and to Steve. “She got her period,” she blurts.
Steve raises his brows. “O-Okay. Are you… in pain?”
“No. She was just really upset because she wanted you two to have sex tonight, but obviously, you guys can’t, and she feels bad. And you know, periods make us gals insane and really weepy, so…” Robin trails off.
You’re surprised by how fast Robin made up that cover story, but there’s no room for you to tell the truth.
“Oh, baby,” Steve chuckles. He sits down on the floor next to you and puts his arm over your shoulder. “Don’t worry about that. We can spend the night cuddling and watching movies and eating so much ice cream we explode.”
You can’t help but laugh at his words. You stare into his eyes, feeling the bridge of your nose burn in attempt to hold back tears.
You realize that no matter what happens, he will always make you happy. He’ll always be that one person that just gets you. The one person who still gives you butterflies past the honeymoon phase. Who makes you feel special, loved, supported, and satisfied with everything in life.
But he won’t be the person who gets to be with you forever. Not after tonight.
“Honey, don’t cry.” he cups your cheek with his hand, wiping away the tears with his thumb. “It’s okay, okay? I’m not mad or sad, so you shouldn’t be. Plus, I use condoms anyways,” he smirks.
You laugh again, your whole face lighting up. Robin stares at you two, guilt overcoming her. She knows the cheating is your fault, but she can’t help but blame herself. She looks at you with Steve and all that’s written on your face is joy. How could Robin be so stupid? You are meant to be with Steve, not her. No matter what exciting, new feelings you may have for anyone else, including Robin.
“I’ll leave you two.” Robin gets up and grabs her belt. You stare at her as she leaves, “I’m sorry” on the tip of your tongue. Your heart sinks as she avoids your gaze, roughly pulling the door open.
“What’s up with her?” Steve asks. “She’s just hungry. She gets hangry,” you lie.
Steve nods. “Me, too. Well, do you want to keep the party going or do you want to just chill out?”
“Doesn’t matter to me. It’s your birthday,” you say.
“But your my girlfriend who generously set this all up,” he smiles. “It’s my job,” you shrug.
Steve put his thumb on your chin and holds your head up to look at him. “I know I don’t say this much, but I am so thankful for you. I’m sorry I don’t remind you enough. I need to do that more.”
“Oh, Steve,” you sigh. “I already know all this. You do more than enough to let me know. It’s okay.”
He shakes his head. “No, it’s not. You’re always saying how great I am, I need you to know how great you are.”
All you can do is smile through the pain. You hug him tightly, burying your face into his neck. You let a few tears shed, squeezing your eyes shut as you enjoy his comforting arms. You don’t know how many times you’ll be able to do this so you promise yourself to cherish whatever time you have left with him.
“I love you so much, Steve,” you whisper. “So, so much.”
“I know you do, baby. I love you so much. You’re the best,” he mumbles into your neck.
“No, you are,” you whisper it like a promise.
He pulls away to kiss you. You want to cry harder, but you keep your composure. You tangle your hand in his hair and push yourself up against him, kissing him so hard you might bruise his lips.
Steve pulls away, a little breathless. He looks into your eyes, noticing they still look a little sad. “Are you sure you’re okay? Did anything else happen?”
Your heart pounds and you can barely swallow. You know you should tell him right now, but it’s still his birthday. You didn’t want to be an even worse girlfriend.
“No, nothing else happened. I just hate my period,” you lie.
He nods, “understandable. Do you need me to get anything for you?”
You shake your head. “No, thank you. Let’s go back to the party.”
“Okay. If you’re done with it, just let me know.”
You nod and stand up, a little wobbly. Steve wraps an arm around you and walks you out. Max and Lucas look at you blankly while Robin is still avoiding your gaze. You shake your head at Max and Lucas while Steve leads you back to the dance floor.
You put your attention back on Steve, smiling at him as he sets his hands on your waist. He looks at you with stars in his eyes, making you melt on the inside. You naturally wrap your arms around his neck, clasping your hands together as you two sway to the beat of the music.
You two spend the rest of the night dancing with the kids, Robin standing in the corner and reading for most of the night.
“Happy birthday, old man!” Dustin smiles at Steve. “Just wait. You’ll be 20 in no time,” Steve smirks.
“Don’t remind me,” Dustin rolls his eyes.
“Bye, guys,” you smile at the kids as they leave. Steve goes over to the snack table for more pretzels, allowing Max and Lucas to come up to you.
“Obviously you didn’t tell him,” Max says. “I wasn’t going to tell him tonight. It’s his birthday,” you scoff.
“How long had this been going on?” Lucas asks. “It was only that one kiss!” you exclaim in a hushed voice.
“Better not be another one. You know how badly Steve was hurt after Nancy,” Max glares at you.
You sigh and nod, putting your hand on your forehead. “Yeah, I know. It won’t happen again. I hate hurting him and I already know I did, even if he doesn’t feel it yet.” You glance at him again. You can’t help but smile as he tries to be a walrus with the pretzels.
“He’s a great guy. He doesn’t deserve this. Especially since you were kissing a girl,” Lucas states.
You glare at them. “I know! Do you think I wanted this to happen? You guys know how much I love Steve. You guys know that he… he’s my one and only. I have our wedding planned out.”
“Then why did you kiss Robin?” Max asks. You slump against the doorframe and state at Robin as she nibbles on a snicker bar. “It’s different with her,” you say truthfully.
“That doesn’t mean it’s better,” Max says. “Yeah, I know,” you frown, lowering your gaze at your shoes.
Max sighs and puts her hand on your shoulder. “We know you love Steve, but you have to decide if you’re in love with him, or if you’re in love with Robin.”
You nod, “yeah. You’re right.”
“Good luck,” Lucas sighs. “Thanks,” you roll your eyes.
“We’ll see you soon,” Max says. She interlocks fingers with Lucas as they walk out of your house.
“Is that the last of the rug rats?” Steve asks. “Yep,” you nod.
“Hey, Robin. Want to watch a movie with us?” Steve suggests.
“Um, no.” Robin shakes her head. “I have to go home. Great party, Y/n. Happy birthday, Steve.”
“Thanks,” Steve says as she walks out. He closes the door and turns to you. “She’s acting more weird than normal.”
You shrug, “I don’t know what’s wrong. Maybe she’ll tell you tomorrow during work.”
Steve nods, “Yeah, maybe.”
Turns out, Robin did tell him what was wrong. She told him the truth, but not the full truth.
“She’s my girlfriend, Robin!” Steve exclaims. “I know, I’m sorry!” Robin sighs.
“And you’re supposed to be my best friend!”
“I know. I said I’m sorry.”
“I know it’s hard to find girls in Hawkins, but that doesn’t give you the right to steal mine,” Steve glares.
“I-I know. You have no idea how terrible I feel! B-But at least I told you, right?” Robin asks.
“Yeah,” Steve scoffs. He sets his hands on his hips and paces around Family Video, realization occurring. “That’s why she was acting so weird.”
“Yeah, she feels so bad, Steve,” Robin nods. “Why didn’t she tell me?” Steve frowns.
“It was your birthday. And plus, I’m the one who made the move,” Robin lies.
Steve nods. “Yeah, makes sense, I guess.”
“I’m so sorry, Steve. I promise it’ll never happen again,” Robin says, looking him dead in the eyes.
Steve searches her eyes, his heart strings being tugged. But he can’t forgive Robin. Not yet. Not when it’s so fresh. “Yeah, I… I need to go see Y/n. I can’t be here right now.”
Robin sighs helplessly. “Please, Steve!”
But he’s already out the door and on his way to you. You’re asleep on the couch when he knocks. The sound jolts you awake and you panic.
“Y/n, it’s Steve!”
You sigh in relief, but a different type of panic sets in. “Coming!” you shout. You throw your blanket off of you and open the door for him. You gasp as his eyes are red and watery. “W-What happened?”
“Robin told me what happened.”
Your stomach drops to your feet. You suddenly feel nauseous and numb. “W-What did she say?”
“She said how she kissed you and how she’s in love with you,” Steve explains.
Your brows rise. “She said what?”
“Yeah, can you believe it?” he scoffs. He walks into your house and sits down on the couch. “I mean, I understand that it’s hard for her to find someone that’s out and a girl that likes girls. But, she chooses you? My girlfriend. That’s so… disrespectful. Don’t get me wrong, I can see why she likes you. I mean, look at you. You’re stunning, but my girl? I just… I thought she was my best friend.”
You sit down and holds Steve’s forearm. “Steve, she’s still your best friend. I don’t —”
“No,” he shakes his head. “Not after this. You know, if she wanted my help she could have asked me. I could have gotten her a girl, or tried to. But she picked the one person that is unavailable. And you don’t even like girls, so it wasn’t even worth it.”
You open your mouth to speak, but he keeps talking.
“I’m so mad,” he seethes. “And you,” his head snaps to you. Your mind races with what he could say next. You can barely breathe, thinking that he will suddenly turn on you, but he doesn’t. Instead, he says, “You were so kind and thoughtful last night. Not telling me because you thought it would ruin my night. And I mean, it definitely would have, but it just shows even more how you’re the perfect girl.”
“I’m not the perfect girl,” you shake your head. “I let it happen. I didn’t stop… her, and I just let her kiss me. I’m the worst,” your voice breaks as you begin to cry again.
“Baby, you’re not. Maybe you just got caught in the moment, or you were so shocked that you didn’t know what to do. It’s happened to all of us.”
You nod, “yeah. It was definitely one of those things.”
Steve sighs and lays back on the couch, thinking for a few moments. “I don’t know if I can ever forgive her.”
You look at him, sitting up straighter and looking him in the eyes. “Steve, there’s something you should know.”
He gulps visibly. “W-What is it?”
“I…” you look away at your coffee table. “I… I like girls, too.”
Steve’s heart jumps up his throat. “Y-You do.”
“Yeah,” you look back at him. “But that doesn’t mean I like you any less. It just means…”
“You like boobies like I like boobies,” Steve says.
You chuckle softly. “Yeah, you could put it that way.”
“That’s… good to know. Now I have to watch out for both guys and girls,” he jokes.
You feel a little bit hopeful at his reaction. “So, you’re not mad or anything? You don’t love me any less?”
He smiles softly and sits up. He rests one hand on your thigh and reaches the other up to your cheek, stroking your cheekbone with his thumb. “Of course, I’m not mad. Nor do I love you any less. It’s a little surprising, of course, but I don’t see you any differently.”
You cry again, this time in relief. “Oh, thank God. I-I’ve been so worried you would break up with me over this.”
“I never would,” he shakes his head. “And why would I? I’m fine with Robin being gay.”
“Yeah, but people are more offensive to people who like both genders.”
“Well, you chose me out of the billion people in the world, so I’m lucky,” he smiles.
You gaze into his eyes and you can’t help but grin. “I’m so lucky, too.” you rest your forehead against his and press your lips to his. He hums happily, wrapping his arm around your back and pulling you close. His other hand grabs your leg and swings it over his lap. You breathe out as you sit on his lap, open-mouth kissing him and slipping your tongue into his mouth.
His hands slip down your thighs, toying with the drawstring on your sweats. You smile into the kiss as he unites it, gently tugging on the elastic to loosen your pants. As he slips his hands in, a chill goes up your spine. You pull away to look at Steve, shocked to see Robin in his place.
“Hey, baby,” she smiles, her raspy voice enticing you. Her hands move up your body and under your shirt, skimming the underwire of your bra. She takes a handful of your tits in both hands, massaging them over the cups of your bra.
You hum in pleasure, rocking your hips with hers. She begins to kiss your neck, sucking on the spot that makes you whine. You feel her lips curl up into a smile and you smile with her.
“It’s fun, isn’t it?” she asks. “Mmhmm,” you nod, focusing more on how good it feels to have her hands on you.
“It’s fun lying to your boyfriend. It’s fun breaking his heart and causing him to not have a best friend anymore.”
Your smile quickly diminishes and you pull away, confused as to why she’s not there anymore. You look around the room, your heart jumping out of your throat as you see a big grandfather clock. You can’t hear anything else now but its merciless ticking.
You’re frozen in place. You can’t seem to bring yourself to move and run away. You’re so shocked and scared. All you can do is hope that you wake up.
Meanwhile, in reality, Steve is trying to shake you awake. He noticed something was off when you pulled away and smiled at him differently than usual. Now you’re staring into space, not moving, speaking, or even breathing.
“Baby, wake up,” Steve panics. “C’mon, you’re stronger than him. Wake up, please.”
You wake up a couple seconds later, eyes jolting across the room and your chest heaving. Steve sighs in relief, hugging you close to him.
“God, I thought I lost you,” he mutters.
You do nothing but break down in his arms.
“Sshh, baby, it’s okay. You’re safe now,” he rubs your back.
You shake your head. “I-I’m not. I-I’m going to die soon.”
“No, you won’t. Max survived it and you will, too,” Steve says.
You hiccup and pull away to face him. “S-Steve, there’s something I need to tell you.”
He furrows his brows. “Okay, what is it? Is it about something you saw?”
“N-No. It’s about Robin. She —”
“Yo!” Dustin’s voice shouts form the outside. He pounds on your door. “I know you guys are here! I can see your car. Stop having sex! We can’t have Y/n pregnant while Vecna is still out there!”
Steve rolls his eyes and looks back at you. “You can tell me later, yeah?”
“O-Okay,” you swallow harshly.
“Guys! We need to get Eddie food!” Dustin yells.
“Alright, I’m coming!” Steve groans. He gently rolls you off of his lap, giving your forehead a kiss before he opens the door. “Thank you for disturbing half of the neighborhood.”
“The neighborhood loves me!” Dustin grins. “And it took you long enough. Were you two getting dressed or — oh.” Dustin stops as he sees you crying in a ball. “Oh, shit.”
“Yeah, douchebag,” Steve glares at him.
“What’s wrong? Did you make her cry?” Dustin gasps.
“What? No! Of course not! She…” Steve sighs. “She saw Vecna. Or the grandfather clock. Or one of those two.”
Dustin’s brow raise and his jaw drops. “Oh, shit.”
“Yeah,” Steve sighs. “W-Well, we’ve beat him before. I mean, maybe we can get her to listen to her favorite song ahead of time to stop him?” Dustin suggests.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea,” Steve nods.
“Hey, Y/n,” Dustin says softly. He walks over to you, putting his hand on your shoulder. “I have Oreos if you want some. They’re double stuffed.”
You let out a little laugh. You wipe your nose and look up. “I’m good. Thanks, Dusty.”
“You sure?” Steve asks. “You haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
You look off into the distance, not being able to get Robin’s words out of your head. She was so real. You reached out and touched her, you kissed her. But it was really Vecna.
You feel disgusting. Your skin feels dirty and your chest hurts. You shoot up from the couch, not saying anything as you walk to your bathroom, immediately stripping off your clothes and turning on the shower.
Dustin and Steve watch you slam the door in confusion.
“Is she okay?” Dustin asks. Steve rolls his eyes. “She’s seeing Vecna. Do you think she’s okay?”
“It just doesn’t make sense,” Dustin says, sitting down next to Steve. “What could she be guilty about? She’s the most innocent person I know.”
Steve sighs and nods. “I know, that’s what I’m thinking, too. I mean, she just told —” he stops himself, Dustin’s brows raising in question.
“She just told you what?”
“Nothing, it doesn’t matter,” Steve shakes his head.
“Are you sure?” Dustin asks. “It could be important.”
“Trust me, it isn’t,” Steve says. He looks at your bathroom door, trying to rack his brain for what it could be.
You couldn’t be guilty about the kiss with Robin, could you? Robin said it herself that it was her fault. That it was a mistake and that you didn’t even like it.
A horrible thought entered Steve’s mind. What if you did like it?
He erases the thought from his head. Just because you came out to him doesn’t mean that it has anything to do with what happened with Robin. It’s just a coincidence… right?

Had the idea of there being kind of a hive thing with cocoons attached to it somewhere in the Upside Down. Like, Steve finding it, seeing something move around it one of the cocoons. Out drops Kas/Vampire!Eddie. They fight and maybe Steve ties Eddie up with a jacket and throws him over his shoulder. Eddie is still flopping around, and Steve comes back to the group. He's kind of dirty and beaten from the fight, with little splashes of blood on his white shirt, the thigh of his jeans, his hands, possibly some in his hair, and his cheeks.
Another scenario could be that there is an opening in the hive. Steve goes in it, leaving the rest outside with Nancy, and finds Eddie sitting on a rock and twiddling his thumbs. Steve sits by him, but Eddie doesn't seem to remember him or himself. Eddie then kisses him after mumbling something like "pretty." And then, it all comes back to him. He's really confused. I haven't thought this was out entirely.
Idk just give me a hive kind of like the tunnels in s2.
That would be awesome???
Like, let's say that someone in the group gets a bad feeling. Paranoia, maybe, or maybe they're growing more sensitive to the things of the Upside Down. Hop isn't healthy enough to investigate, so Steve takes up that mantle. They find the tunnels just like they did in s2, but instead of demodogs, there's these.... Pods, everywhere. It's nasty as hell and Steve immediately herds the kids who refused to listen to him out of the tunnels.
But the kids are magnets for trouble and physically incapable of letting well enough alone, so Steve decides to run damage control before one of them inevitably gets hurt. He goes down into the tunnels alone like an idiot, armed with a flashlight and his walkie. A few hours of exploring brings him to what he thinks is a hub of some sort. It is, as I said, nasty as hell, and Steve is ready to go home, but one of the pods is glowing, something inside shifting like it's fighting to get out, and whatever it is could be dangerous, so Steve decides to hatch it himself, pop that thing open and just fight whatever comes out.
Only what pops out is almost definitely Eddie Munson. A weird, pointy-eared, fanged Eddie Munson, but that's definitely Eddie, and for a moment Steve is so shocked and relieved to see him alive that he forgets Eddie just popped out of something that belongs in a sci-fi. Eddie gets the drop on him, so there's ... An embarrassing amount of shrieking as Steve fends off the attack, followed by an awkward amount of time soothing the half-feral creature he'd tied up with his sweater. Actually, that hadn't been a bad idea- Monster Eddie seems to calm faster, shoving his nose into the fabric and making weird noises that sound like he's trying to speak to him. Steve decides that he's done dealing with this. He's just- there is a line he'd drawn, and it's somewhere behind him, and coaxing some Upsidedown Monster Version of a guy he may or may not have had a crush on out of Fight Mode is definitely crossing that line. He carries Eddie back to his car.
As soon as Eddie is mostly comfortable, Steve pulls out his walkie and radios Dustin. "Hey, Henderson, I found this weird lookin', uh, cat? Meet at mine tomorrow morning." He reports. Dustin responds immediately.
"Why are you telling me about some cat, Steve? Are you going to keep it or something? Over."
"I think we should keep it. It's kinda- uh, bitey right now though, so that's why I said wait until tomorrow."
"You're supposed to say 'over,' over."
"Oh my- fine, whatever. My place, tomorrow. Ten. Over."
"10-4, over and out." Steve snorts a little at just how seriously Dustin takes his radio chatter.
Dustin is delighted to find out Eddie is alive, as is the rest of the Party (although they are a bit shocked to see he'd been shifted into a vampire-esque monster). Eddie, now that he isn't fighting for his life- or maybe now that Steve has his arms tied securely- seems more than happy to let things happen to him. He chitters as Dustin, Lucas, Mike, and Max fawn over him, makes those weird growling noises as Robin tries to talk herself into being totally cool with the claws and fangs and subvocal communication, and melts into a puddle of churrs and purrs and happy grumbles when Steve carefully washes his hair. He does so well that the Party decides to untie him-
Eddie grabs Steve by the throat and holds him for about three lifetimes seconds, as if to assert that he did not like being tied up, and then reverts back to a mostly tame being. After that, Eddie likes to follow Steve around the house, happy to observe until something in the wind changes or whatever motivates goblin people like Eddie, and then he spends about ten minutes chasing Steve down, biting the shit out of him, and parading around the house like he'd done something praiseworthy.
El tries to offer her help, but after much talk, the Party decides to try and bring Eddie back to himself the old-fashioned way. It's a bit awkward, if only because Steve is insistent that they treat Eddie like he's Eddie. Steve becomes Eddie's Person, for a while, because they'd all agreed not to tell Wayne until they could get Eddie back to himself (or at least mostly back to himself).

If I only could make a deal with God
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington x Fem!reader
Being stuck in the upside down is taking it’s toll on you. Watching Steve putting himself in danger over and over again is has also taken it’s toll on you.
3.5k Lots of bickering and angst
Steve started to remove his shoes and socks
‘Steve What are you doing?’ You asked Him with furrowed brows
‘Somebody's gotta go down and check this out. Unless one of you three can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, then... It's gotta be me.‘ Steve added as he took off his yellow jumper leaving his chest exposed
‘So just winging it is your best Bet! You don’t even know what’s down there! It’s suicide Harrington!’ You crossed your arms across your chest and you tried your best not to stare at his defined chest.
Steve knew he was in for an earful as you rarely used his last name.
‘That’s why someone got to go check this thing out and I’m our best shot! Do you have any better ideas?’
‘I could do it’ you added standing up and looking him in the eyes not backing down the boat rocked as you stood up
‘Sit down Y/n!’ Nancy added
‘SIT DOWN!’ both Robin and Eddie exclaimed
You ignored them and glared at Steve.
‘No way in hell! You aren’t exactly good swimmer! ‘
‘I would be fine! I can swim! ‘You added stubbornly not giving in.
‘You look like a dog trying to paddle in the water! I’m our best shot. No complaints, all right?’ Steve added firmly but gave you a soft look.
You sighed and sat back down gently.
‘Don’t get yourself killed okay?’ You looked away from him
‘Hey y/n? ‘ Steve added in a much softer voice than before which caused you to look up at him.
‘I promise I’ll be careful’
‘You better’ you added as you gave him a lingering look and he looked at you for a moment before jumping in the water.
Your arms were still crossed across your chest. As you looked into the water.
Steve better know what he was doing. God that man worried you. He was always putting himself into dangerous situations like it was nothing.
First the mines, then the Russians and now Vecna and it was the fact that he never took a few minutes to think about the situation ahead or it’s long term effects he just went through it hoping for the best and you were sure that it would cause him his life one day.
You had been bickering with him ever since you had gone with Robin and Nancy to find out what was going on. You had bickered a lot more than usual. Usually the bickering was all in good fun.
The two of you had been through hell and back and there wasn’t a thing you wouldn’t do for your friends or your kids but god did Steve lack logical thinking even on a good day.
You had seen the man take a beating more than once and it was getting harder and harder to watch.
When Steve came back up again you were relieved for a few seconds, the two of you shared a look of longing before he got pulled back down.
‘STEVE?’ You exclaimed
God you knew something would happen so you jumped in after him despite Robin’s pleas and Nancy’s protest.
The water was cold and your leater jacket felt heavy as you swam around and looked for the gate. You looked for a good minute before you Saw the red gate. Steve had a point, it was more a snack sized gate but it would do.
You swam through it and saw a lot of demobats flying around before you spotted Steve on the Ground demobats digging
For fucks sake.
You were terrified but brushed off your Fear and rushed over to Him and grabbed the oar from the Ground before swinging it at a demobat that was hurting Steve. Nancy and Robin helped you kill the demobats that were trying to strangle Steve. Eddie was fighting of the demobats. Steve Got up from the Ground. You were all fighting of the demobats. One bat got it’s fangs straight into your wrist
Which made you hiss out in pain.
‘Son of a bitch!’ You snapped before you managed to pull it off you and twist it’s neck. blood spattered in your face which made you nauseous. It took you all a while to fight the bats off.
You dropped the oar and rushed over to Steve.
‘JESUS H CHRISSST!’ Eddie exclaimed
‘Steve! Are you okay?’ You asked nervously as you looked at him
‘Only took about a pound of flesh. But other than that, yeah never better’ he said and looked at you and you looked at him.
Robin rambled on about rabies before more demobats flew down and you all ran towards the woods and hid.
You noticed Steve grabbing the tree
‘Steve! ‘
‘I’m fine ‘
‘You definitely aren’t fine. You are loosing blood Steve! Sit down. Please?’ you added your tone was softer than it had been in days. Months even.
Steve did as you asked but hissed out in pain and touched his side were his wounds were.
‘Nance! I need something to stop the bleeding with’ you remained calm
Robin sat down next to the both of you and rambled on about rabies again
‘Nance?’ You asked and looked at her. She handed you a piece of her long sleeve shirt and you gave her a smile of gratitude and she gave you a nod back. You shooed Robin away and she backed off.
You gave Steve an unsure look
‘Can I?’ You asked gesturing to his wound
‘Yeah just do it’ Steve added in a pained voice.
You wrapped the cloth around Steve’s torso and he groaned in pain. You shook a little as you heard the pain in his voice. You were mad at him for always getting hurt but also worried
‘I’m so sorry Steve I sh-‘
‘Hey. It’s okay ‘
‘Is it too tight?’ You asked worriedly before securing the piece of cloth firmly around him.
‘No it’s good’
He looked at you longingly and you looked back at him. You were scared, angry and worried all at the same time. You also wanted to kiss him senselessly but now was not the time or the place to do it though so you pushed the feelings down.
They weren’t new feelings you had felt this way for months if not the last year or two but the timing had never been quite right. Plus you were terrified that you would lose him. Terrified that he wouldn’t make it out of Hawkins alive. That you wouldn’t have him in your life much longer with how much he risked his life for all of you.
‘Thank you y/n’ Steve added gratefully.
‘Always Harrington’ you added still upset but gave Him a small smile.
You helped Him up and he leaned on you as you headed over to your friends. You had all agreed to be careful were you were stepping as the place was filled with demobats and other demo monster and Vecna. You were all planning to go to Nancy’s House for guns. The ground began to Shake.
Yoy grabbed on to Steve’s arm and he held you protectively as the ground shook you looked at Him and he looked at you.
As you were walking towards Nancy’s house you were walking next to Steve but you didn’t say anything to Him. You were upset and angry with the whole situation. You were unsure of How hurt Steve was or even How hurt you were with the demobat’s bite on your wrist. You wouldn’t even look at him.
‘You know in all the time we have known each other this is the longest amount of time you have ever stayed quiet’ Steve said in hopes to at least get a smile out of you.
You avoided his gaze. Your head was throbbing. You knew that if you opened your mouth that the two of you would bicker. You fiddled with one of the rings on your finger to stay calm.
‘Please just talk to me! Say anything please!’
You heard the desperation in his voice and it broke you. You looked up at him.
‘I told you to be careful. Now you have a massive gaping wound! That’s not being careful Steve! That’s throwing yourself head first into danger’
‘Wow really! ‘
‘Yes really! We don’t even know What it means!’ You added defensively
‘ I’m sure once it heals i’ll be okay’ Steve said in frustration
‘We don’t know that for sure though do we! What if Robin is right and you get rabies or worse!’
‘God y/n! What cravled up your ass and died! Why do you even care?’ Steve snapped
causing everyone to look at him in disbelief.
You looked like he had stabbed you. The look on your facd was a look of absolute betrayal.
Your headache was more prominent now and the bite on your hand stung like a motherfucker.
‘Seriously?’ you asked him absolutely in shock.
His words stung especially considering that you had been there in the mines helping Him protect your kids. You had been there when the russians opened another portal, there as they had tortured you, Steve and Robin. You had heard Steve scream as the russians tortured Him. The ear pinching scream had given you nightmares for weeks.
‘Too far man’ Eddie commented from the side line.
‘Y/n i- i’
You shook your head at him and walked backwards before turning around and walking off.
‘ i need a minute’ you muttered as you walked ahead and away from the group.
‘Y/n wait!’ Robin said and walked after you
‘Robin be careful this place-‘
‘Is like a hive mind yeah I know dingus’ she said not looking at Steve her voice was laced with annoyance.
As Robin caught up with you she looked at you worriedly. You wiped away some tears from your cheeks before you looked back at her. You had been humming ‘self control’ to yourself in order to stay relatively sane.
‘Y/n you know he didn’t mean that’
You looked at Robin with a hurt expression on your face and shrugged.
‘We have been fighting for days now’ you shrugged
‘I’ve noticed. What is that about anyway? You know besides the fact that you have the hots for him’
‘Robin! ‘ you exclaimed in surprise
‘What? It’s highly obvious to anyone who has eyes or you know common sense so anyone but Steve really’
The comment made you laugh because it was true. Steve was hopelessly clueless which was probably for the best
‘So as your best friend talk to me!!’
‘Do you remember last September after we all defeated the Russians? How the two of you surprised me for my birthday?’
Robin nodded and waited for you to continue.
You missed last September everything had seemed easier then. After the Russians had opened the gate and you had all worked together to defeat them things finally seemed to go somewhat back to normal or at least it had for a while.
Things seemed easier then
‘Where are you taking me?’ You asked and tried to see through the blindfold.
‘It’s a surprise y/n!’ Steve said and chuckled. His laugh was light and so happy.
‘Yeah that’s what birthdays are all about!’ Robin agreed.
You were in Steve’s car driving god knows where. Under any other circumstance you would have been scared or upset but these were your best friends.
When the car did stop went out and got something before coming back in. The car smelled of food. You drove for a bit longer before the Steve parked the car again and you felt Steve’s arm holding yours as he guided you to a secret spot before they both took off your blindfold.
‘Tadaaaa’ Robin and Steve exclaimed excitedly
You looked at your surroundings and saw Hawkins local beach. Robin was holding a box of food and Steve was holding birthday gifts.
Your eyes teared up.
‘Of all the conversations we had during summer you remembered this one?’
You had told Robin and You could tell now that Steve had listened too that all you wanted for your birthday if you survived the Russians beating the shit out of all of you - was to go see the sunset and stargaze afterwards with your friends.
You pulled both Robin and Steve into bone crushing hugs and you spent the rest of the night eating takeaway and cake as you watched the sunset.
Steve had handed you a present you opened it and inside was this beautiful moonstone ring with ‘branches ‘ holding the moonstone in place.
You remember leaning in and kissing Steve on the cheek as a thank you.
It was at that moment you truly saw Him as your friend.
‘Before that day we were thrown together because I was babysitting Dustin and god i used to hate Steve because everyone loved him and things seemed so easy for Him. And all we would do was bicker’
‘You still bicker a lot’ Robin shot you a look.
‘The bickering is usually all in good fun… anyway over last summer and with everything that happened at the mall and especially after my birthday i realized that i wanted Him to be a perminant fixture in my life. But he’s out there always getting hurt and one day he won’t be able to bounce back and then what if he-‘
‘Gets himself killed?’ Robin added
‘Yeah. I’m always there to pick up the pieces, to take care of everyone and I don’t mind but he doesn’t even think about himself or how his actions affect anyone else either’ you added worriedly
‘I know. I worry about it too sometimes’ Robin added
‘Right! It’s like he doesn’t even-‘
‘Robin do you mind if i borrow y/n for a minute?’ Steve added as he walked over to the two of you.
Robin nodded and left the two of you alone to sort out your conflict.
You hadn’t sensed him coming so it made you jump. Steve caught your wrist to hold you steadily
‘Easy Tiger. It’s just me’
You looked relieved for a minute
And if it hadn’t been for his comment earlier you would have hugged him close as you had missed not being near him but you were still upset with him.
The two of you walked together in an awkward silence. You waited patiently for him to speak.
‘What i said back there I’m sorry y/n it was out of line. I shouldn’t have said it’ Steve started and looked at you and you looked back at him but you stayed silent
‘We have been arguing for days and i lost my cool and it’s been really hard on me to see you so upset and it’s even worse because I know I’m the reason behind you being so upset’ said and you stopped in your tracks
‘Careful where you step the place-‘
‘Is a hive mind? Yeah i Got it. Look Steve I’m sorry for being intolerable these last few days it’s just- it’s just I’m so worried about you’
This took Steve by surprise.
‘Why are you worried? I’m okay y/n’ Steve said as he tried to reassure you.
You pointed to his abdomen and raised your eyebrows at him.
‘Because you alway go running head first into danger. Any danger. It’s like you have a death wish’ you said quietly radiating with nerves.
‘I don’t go running -‘
‘Steve! you always do! I’ve had to clean more wounds on your face and body than i can even count. The kids. Our seven kids need you to survive. God i need you to survive’
‘Our kids?’ Steve asked you amused.
You looked at him with your eyebrows raised.
‘You look out for them all the time and when I’m not busy cleaning their bruises after our latest encounter with the upside down, then I’m feeding them’ you smiled gingerly
Steve chuckled and you could have have hugged him then and there. But there was still so much tension between you.
‘I don’t want you to be the next person we burry. If you die i die okay? I need you to stay with me. To live. So if you could just maybe be careful ‘ you Said it so earnestly your voice broke
Steve reached out and pulled you in for a hug and you hugged him back fiercely .
‘I promise to be a lot more careful okay? But can we stop arguing? I miss my best friend’ Steve said gently
‘I miss you too’
‘If it makes you feel better we can stay close together and this way you can see that I’m okay and hey you can even stop me from doing anything stupid okay?’
‘It will drive you crazy’ You giggled
Steve kissed your forehead
‘You’re my favorite person. If someone gets to drive me crazy it’s you’
You blushed at that.
For the rest of the walk Steve and you walked close together. His hand was laced with yours and he would often squeeze it reassuringly.
‘You really love the ring don’t you ?’ Steve asked and looked at you.
‘It’s the best birthday present I’ve ever gotten’ you admitted and blushed
Steve beamed proudly at you. Before you entered Nancy’s house with him.
Nancy, Robin and Eddie had gone straight up to her bedroom. While you and Steve looked around Nancy’s House.
‘Why do you always put yourself into harms way? Do you have like a death wish or something?’
‘Y/n i thought we put the breaks on that conversation’ Steve said and gave you a pleading look
‘I’m not trying to start anything I promise I just wa-‘
You both heard Dustin’s voice. You both looked at each other and started to shout his name.
‘Dustin!’
‘DUSTIN’
Robin, Nancy and Eddie came running.
You all look around for Dustin together and yell out his name to no avail. You all managed to do signal SOS using the lamps in Nancy’s house. You were all touching the lights in fascination. Steve was looking at you with a smile on his face.
‘What? ‘ you asked amused.
‘It’s nice to see you smile’ Steve admitted in a bashful way
You giggled and put your head on his shoulder.
You all managed to communicate with Dustin and the sense of relief you felt was unreal. You could all get out of here alive and then when you did you had every intention of letting Steve know how much you cared for him but not now. Not trapped in the upside down while you were covered in the blood from the demobat.
You managed to communicate with Dustin which had lead you and the gang to cycle to Eddie’s trailer. On the way there you cycled as fast as you could. You couldn’t wait to get back to your Hawkins.
When you all went inside Eddie’s trailer and you all went inside and saw the red opening on the roof that started to clear and before you knew it Dustin, Lucas, Max and Erica appeared smiling down at you.
You grabbed Steve’s hand and squeezed it in relief. You felt Steve squeeze your hand back. You were safe. You were finally safe.
Dustin threw a rope through the opening and tugged on it to make sure it was safe. Robin was the first to go through the opening, she climbed up the rope before dropping down on the mattress.
‘Thank god, that was fun’ Robin said very clearly relieved.
Eddie went next and landed on the other side.
‘That was fun. Shit’ he said as he got off the mattress.
‘See you on the other side ‘ Nancy gave you both a look
She climbed up the rope, through the opening and landed on the other side and she smiled up at both of you before she got off the mattress.
You and Steve looked at each other. You signaled for him to go first but he shook his head. You sighed and leaned in and kissed his cheek which caused his cheeks to Color.
‘Okay I’ll go first this time’ you added before climbing up the rope.
‘Y/n?’ Steve questioned
‘Yes Steve?’
‘Please be careful’ he said there was a hint of worry in his voice.
‘Always’ you reassured him before climbing through the gate
However instead of falling onto the mattress like your friends had you fell into the nothingness you let out an ear pinching scream before you landed back in the ground in the upside down.
Your head aching painfully.
Steve was confused to say the least when he saw you standing right next to him but you were in a trace and your eyes were white.
‘Y/N! Y/N!’
‘NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOO!’ Steve Said painfully. He was terrified.
Vecna had you now.
