Remember how Inspector Nakamori was introduced working homicide? Now remember how many of Toichi's heists remain unaccounted for. 1412 and other fun-haters do not interact

This is kind of a Thing with Nakamori in general: he's a grab-bag of parts that simultaneously make him the biggest clown in the cast and the most tragic. For starters, consider—does he suck at his job because he's just that dumb, or does he not want to believe someone so close to his family could betray him that long, that constantly, grinning all the while?

It's hard to tell if Gosho ever meant anyone to read between the lines with this guy—he's perfectly functional as a "just" a scaled-down Zenigata or first-draft Kogoro. But even that's not without weight. Here's a Zenigata, no less Invested in the chase, that lives in a world where Lupin actually can and did die. And he doesn't have clue number one. He thinks himself the world's number-one Kidologist, and his supposed archenemy('s ghost) has only this to say.

Harping on this isn't terribly fair—the specials were big holiday treats done by Conan vets, while 1412 was by all accounts industry newbies stretching a cup-ramen budget over 24 eps—but every so often you do get a shot that makes you wonder what they could've done with a little more time, or a little more care...
