This is right after Yuuri escaped to his room in ep 2.These are tears. What the fuck. You cant tell me that Victor didnt fall in love at the afterparty.

Actually i have a theory abt that.

They met at the after party. Obviously Yuuri romanced Victor and then fucking forgot. Then the airport scene - i dont think Victor thought of him as a fan. Do you think that being into this sport so long would make him not check his fucking opponents? There were just 5 of them!! Besides i think that was his way of saying "hi remember me? We can take a photo and then i can take your number so i could.. Hehe.. Send u the photo or something"

Then the fucking victors free program. I can write essays about this. He looks so sad there. So lonely. His movement are mainly hugging himself and reaching out. Just THINK! Its stated so many times in the show that skaters share emotions by skating. Our boy Victor, the biggest of simps, was sending a message. "I hope youre watching. Im still thinking about that night where i finally felt something, felt like im having fun. Here, im reaching out to you. Please give me a sign, any sign so we can at least talk from time to time. Im human and im very lonely".

AND THEN!!! THEN! yuuri did THAT. he recreated it. Well, he did it so he could feel a little better (besides: when Victor skates it hes in top shape and nails it all. Yuuri is depressed, out of shape and he still did that!!). The video accidentally went viral but Victor doesnt know. He thinks "oh my god. He is reaching out. And this boy is lost and lonely and talented and i wanna get to know him. He is a genius, why isnt he showing off, why is he hiding all this from the world? "

And he thinks. Really really hard even though he made up his mind after seeing that video. He doesnt have any idea how to surprise people anymore. He doesnt have any real competition. He is bored, he is losing his passion and the most important part - he is so lonely. And not gonna lie - i think after seeing that his crush turned from small to enormous

So hes like FUCK THIS SHIT my life couldnt get any fucking worse or more boring, and he flies to Japan. Hes excited, hes gonna get to know his crush and its gonna go smoothly, because of what happened at the party. So hes gonna have a great time and shake a skating world a little.

So here we are, he meets this boy that BEGGED HIM to be his coach, while being very close to half naked, and now hes scared to even talk to him. Victor doesnt know what the fuck is going on. Is it the way he approached him? Is it him? Did he not like what he saw at the onsen? Maybe he doesn like victor at all? Too bad, Victor is gone already and i dont know if he realizes it yet.

So he hugs his dog close and let himself cry a little.

What i meant is: Victor fell in love earlier than we thought for the most part of the show and it shows! The details are there and it makes it more hilarious, cause can you imagine? Hes simping over this boy and when he meets him hes being crushed but doesnt give up. He probably told himself that well maybe hes just playing hard to get, im gonna remind him how he wasnt all that at the party by giving him the most sexual program i could ever think of. He did touch Yuuri a lot. He said things.

And now imagine you do all this only to find out THE BOY DOESNT REMEMBER HOW YOU MET and that you came across as someone who bothered your husband so much he fell in love as well.

The Snyder Cut: Headcanons (mostly of the tickly nature)

Bruce Wayne (Batman) ~ Batfleck, my love

He’s such a lover boy, and I can say that though I don’t exactly know how to explain what I mean. You just gotta understand.

He cares so strongly about EVERYONE. e v e r y o n e. Alfred, fucking loves the guy, jokes with him. The fucking “This is Alfred, I work for him.” MY MAN, STOP!

I think he just really wants to get along with everyone and wants everyone to get along in general.

But he lowkey crushes on Diana (at least in his mind, he’s keeping it lowkey, but we all see what’s happening)

I love the idea of this big hunk of a man getting soft with someone like Diana.

She makes him genuinely laugh this one time by saying something funny, and then they’re both laughing together.

Bruce definitely has one of those laughs where he throws his head back and shit and you can see his like Adam’s apple bobbing and everything.

But that’s if he’s really laughing.

And he has loud “HA”’s that are like really short but loud and then he kinda just snickers to himself for a while, holding his stomach.

And dude, the scene in freaking uhh… i think it’s BvS I’m not 100% (maybe i fucking imagined it who knows) where she like comes over to him and is fixing his wound….. tickle scenario hand picked from the gods right there

I can see a whole, “Woah!” from Bruce when Diana traces her fingers on some sensitive skin. And that Gal Godot smile is on her in an INSTANT.

Bruce will laugh if he’s with the right person. Like I headcanon that if he’s being tickled, he will laugh if it’s done by Diana or Barry, then like he’ll be forced to laugh if it’s Clark bc he overpowers the poor bat, but then he just has these hilarious bouts of angry growls and chuckles if Arthur is going after him.

I can’t even write about Batfleck being a ler because I will literally explode, so I’m done here

Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)

I know the GIF isn’t from ZSJL but just let me live, ok? (Also I couldn’t find the one of Gal wiggling her fingers YOU KNOW THE ONE I’M TALKING ABOUT)

First off, Gal is the most horrible queen of giggles. I’ve seen those blooper reels. My god, girl, how do you keep getting hired?

SHE HAS SUCH A BIG SMILE IT’S LIKE THE ROCK IDK HOW THEIR TEETH AND MOUTH GET SO WIDE LOOKING

Diana will start tickle fights without a doubt.

She’s already very trustful and I also feel pretty handsy with people, especially those she may feel close to. So if she’s playful, you best watch out.

Her favorite targets are Bruce and Barry. I will not take criticism. Diana attacking Barry and reducing him to panicky shrieky laughs is my #1 thought. It’s not even living rent free, I’m commissioning it to be there.

Diana is one to laugh with her victims. She will wreck them and have a great time doing so.

She’ll be ticklish if she wants to be, but it isn’t often she gets pinned and tickled or anything like that.

The guys try to stay away from her or not go after her with tickles for fear of retaliation.

AQUAMAN, CYBORG, SUPERMAN, AND THE FLASH UNDER THE CUT

Arthur Curry (Aquaman)

So…. my man isn’t really ticklish. I really don’t think he is, I feel like his Atlantean genes make his skin a special kind of hard, if that makes sense?

THAT BEING SAID ARTHUR IS THE BIGGEST LER OMGGG

He’ll try and act all cool and ‘whatever’ around the League cuz that’s kind of his persona.

But he slowly gets to like them more and more and his playful side starts to come out.

He’ll tickle Barry out of pure annoyance. Like if Barry makes any kind of comment, he’ll just point his finger out and get that glint in his eye and Barry is sprinting for the hills.

Here’s my favorite headcanon: Arthur will tickle Bruce because he knows it pisses him off when he does it. Bruce will fight back and keep Arthur in his sights at all time and curse and growl at him. And Arthur thinks it’s hilarious.

Arthur as a ler will taunt and tease until the cows come home

“Huh, big guy? What’s that? Ahawww that’s what I thought!... Not so fast/tough/etc. now!... I will wreck you.”

Victor Stone (Cyborg)

Unfortunately… not ticklish. :(

But this boy has the sweetest laugh you will ever hear, and I will die on that hill.

Now that he has friends (superpowered friends, no less), he can slowly come alive and be himself.

I can see Victor not getting involved in tickle fights at first, but at a certain point he’ll be all like, “Okay, step aside so we can do this right” and just PIN THE SHIT OUT OF WHOEVER IS BEING TICKLED. His extra robot arms are killer!

Okay, when he laughs for the first time in front of the group, there’s that cliche moment of pause where everything stops and everyone just stares and listens to him. It’s so rare to hear him laugh because the poor kid barely even smiled around them in the beginning.

He SMIRKS

Now hear me out on this…

Okay, so half a face. Great. Weird. We love it. But you can see all of mischievous Victor when the guy SMIRKS. You see his eye squint and you can swear his robot eye gets a gleam of a different color.

Wait honestly as I was writing that, the thought of Victor’s eye and like his apparatus changing color based on his mood is golden.

Me sitting here, lowkey wishing Victor’s robot body had some kind of cuddly mode like Baymax lmfaoooo

Like the defense mode his body went into when he was around resurrected Supes, but for cuddles and being cute.

Clark Kent (Superman)

I was debating even including any headcanons for Superman bc I don’t care about him much, honestly.

I am v happy they kept in the whole ‘him staring at Flash through the speed storm’ scene bc I laughed so hard at that the first time i saw Josstice League in the theater.

Also I didn’t really like the black superman costume??? I’m not a comic buff, so I’m assuming that’s why. I am like the one person who missed the color from the Josstice League cut. Don’t miss the stupid red sky in the finale, but I miss every other ounce of color that was just SUCKED right out of the Snyder Cut.

Clark and Bruce are besties now, I don’t make the rules. Bruce bought the man his house back. By buying the bank. He’ll take care of him.

And I’ve always simped for those two ever since BvS, bc I’ve already written like two fics where they tickle each other.

Clark overpowering Bruce to tickle the shit out of him makes me so happy lol. Big strong boy Batfleck looking thiccc over here… but put him against Superman and he’s donezo. Because as mentioned earlier, I do think Bruce is pretty ticklish.

But Clark can have his lee side when he’s feeling nice

He’s got that mighty chuckle, almost like how Thor might laugh.

And he really likes getting involved in tickle fights with the League. He knows all of them are sorta afraid of him on the daily anyway, but have that power added to a tickle fight and it’s fun as hell.

He’s gotten taken down by them ONCE. And I mean exactly (1) O N C E.

They all teamed up. Bing, bang, boom. Pinned him to the floor and they each took an area of skin and fucking SQUEEZED AND WIGGLED. They were trying to incapacitate him as quickly as possible. And dangummit, he laughed a lot! Like Clark realized just how ticklish he could feel if he wanted to feel it.

And don’t even get me started on Lois, he’s big on getting her to giggle and she likes toying with him and running her hands all over his body (bc who wouldn’t?)

Barry Allen (The Flash)

I waited to write about Barry last because I have so much to say about this character....

and then I fell asleep and waited until the next day to write anything down about him so now I’m totally not in the mood and I forgot all the salient points I was planning on making.

fuck you, michelle.

I got a weird relationship with this character. He was mad annoying in the Josstice League. Thank goodness they trimmed his bad jokes down.

But now....

when he got hurt at the end and he was like crying and shit oh my god I wanted to hug him

His character got so... good

And I’m now at the right age where I can think about myself in a relationship with this character with no changes or shame

We both out here trying to find that one good job after college and everything

BARRY JUST WANTS FRIENDS, GUYS

HE’S THAT CUTE

And then he got this whole found family schtick with the Justice League!!! Lookit him!!! Thriving!

He has total little brother energy

like, pesky little brother. Bothers everyone, looks over people’s shoulders while they’re deep in thought or concentrating on something.

Asks a lot of questions.

All the more reason for the gang to want to tickle the shit out of him.

Barry just reads like a super ticklish lee. Like his whole character.

Maybe touch starved because he said he needed friends, and I don’t think he has siblings??? (sorry if i’m wrong about that, comic fans)

I already named some of my fav headcanons about him getting tickled by like Diana and such, and I’m sticking with it.

Barry does flee. He runs away with super speed.... but sometimes he just kinda wants the tickles so he lets them have at him.

The chase is all part of the fun with tickling Barry, though. That’s what makes it so entertaining. And Barry isn’t afraid to be a little shit about it either. He will super-speed around his pursuers and poke their sides and tickle them back really quickly before they even know what’s happening.

Barry doesn’t exactly hold back his laughter lol. He’ll protest and scream and squirm like crazy, but once he’s actually tickled, he loses it.

Pure boy. With funny ass facial expressions.

And it really doesn’t help that I never realized just how hot Ezra Miller is, even though I heard he’s not a great person irl. Oh well.

Anon you’ve made me very happy for asking about my au *simp eyes emoji*

And oops, it has a lot of characters in it. Hope you don’t mind this going under the cut!

The stories and goals of protagonists, rivals, and other friends:

Red - As stated in a previous post, Red wants to go on a journey through the Kanto region. He would like to be friends with both Blue and Green, but they both seem to be fighting off his advances. While he originally elects to ignore Team Rocket, he can’t stand by once they start hurting Pokemon. (His starter is Charmander)

Blue - Blue wants to prove to his Gramps that he can be the strongest trainer ever. He and Red used to be friends, but Blue’s bluntness pushed the two of them apart. He sees Red as the only obstacle between him and greatness. Not so fun fact is that his greatest fear is ghosts - including ghost types. (His starter is Squirtle)

Green - Taking inspiration from pokespe, Green is a thief. She knows it’s wrong to steal, but doesn’t mind doing it in order to keep her head above water. She makes off with the last starter from Oak’s lab, and later runs into Red and Blue when she steals from them. While she seems open to being friends with Red, Blue gets on her nerves. (Her starter is Bulbasaur)

Ethan - Ethan wants to become the strongest trainer who ever lived. His goal is to beat Lance and become Champion, and then challenge Kanto after that. He gets caught up in Team Rocket not because of justice, but because Proton criticizes his battle skills. (His starter is Cyndaquil)

Lyra - Lyra originally just follows Ethan to help get an egg for Professor Elm, but then sticks with Ethan in order to raise Togepi herself and also to make sure Ethan doesn’t get himself killed. She ends up getting separated from Ethan and Silver when she decides to help Eusine hunt for Suicune, which rapidly goes wrong. (Her starter is Chikorita)

Silver - Silver, like Green, steals his starter. His goal is to stop Team Rocket at any cost. He reluctantly teams up with Ethan and Lyra at the Goldenrod Radio Tower, and gets dragged along. He’s reluctant to become Ethan’s friend, but even more reluctant to tell him why he hates Team Rocket so much. Silver also hates how Ethan has absolutely zero strategy in battle, and it gets them into many arguments. (His starter is Totodile)

Brendan - Brendan originally starts challenging the gyms to prove to his dad that’s he’s strong. But as time passes, Brendan realizes that Hoenn isn’t perfect, and through talking with Steven, decides that he’s going to become champion so he can make the world a better place for both people and pokemon. He also primarily fights Team Magma, and in the Battle of Sootopolis, fights with Maxie. (His starter is Treeko)

May - May is Birch’s daughter, and immediately inserts herself as Brendan’s new best friend. She travels with Brendan because Birch can’t handle her raw, chaotic energy. May has no idea what she wants to do when she grows up, but she’s okay with that. She’s more about enjoying the experience. In the Battle of Sootopolis, she fights with Archie, which is a much more dangerous fight than Brendan’s fight with Maxie. (Her starter is Mudkip)

Lucas - Lucas is Rowan’s assistant. He’s a bit uptight, and doesn’t appreciate Dawn and Barry’s antics. Originally, he was sent on a fetch quest by Rowan and Dawn’s mother to find her after she ran away from home, but then decides to play tour guide to help Dawn live her life the way she wants to. (His starter is Chimchar)

Dawn - Dawn’s mother is very rich, and very overprotective. Overprotective to the point that she’s having the family move to Kanto so Dawn can’t go on her journey around Sinnoh. So, she runs away from home with her friend Barry after stealing from Rowan on accident. Cynthia convinces her to actually try to make something of her journey, and Dawn gains a lot of confidence as she fights the gyms and Team Galactic. (Her starter is Piplup)

Barry - Barry convinces Dawn to run away from home. He wants to rush through all the gyms to get strong enough to fight his dad, but Dawn convinces him to slow down and enjoy the journey. According to his list of fines, Team Galactic should file for bankruptcy. (His starter is Turtwig)

Hilbert - He’s a genius. Hilbert is an excelling student, but has more of an interest in staying a kid than learning to be a businessman or politician. He goes on his journey with his twin sister, Hilda, and friends Cheren and Bianca. He’s also the first one of the group to trust N despite being the King of Team Plasma. Hilbert ends up becoming the champion of Unova, but ultimately meets a terrible fate. (His starter is Oshawott)

Hilda - If Hilbert’s the brains, Hilda’s the brawn. She’s very driven, and is striving to become an entrepreneur. But of what, she’s not sure yet. She also is very accepting of N, and realizes that he doesn’t quite realize how little power he has in his situation. After the defeat of Team Plasma when Hilbert goes missing, Hilda is the one to recruit Rosa and Nate to help find him. (Her starter is Tepig)

N - The King of Team Plasma. N asks the twins to join the team, and is slightly disappointed when they refuse, because they seem like nice people. That being said, N doesn’t get along very well with Cheren. Over time, he starts to realize that maybe Hilbert and Hilda are better people than his father. Once Hilbert goes missing, N goes into hiding to avoid being the next victim, all while searching for his best friend.

Nate - Nate wants to be the new champion. Or at least, he thought he did. As Nate and his friend Rosa are forced to help Hilda fight off Neo Team Plasma, Nate realizes that battling isn’t really for him. Instead, he finds that he enjoys pretending to be someone else for stealth missions, and that translates afterwards to a love of acting. (His starter is Tepig)

Rosa - Rosa wanted a cute pokemon and to travel with her best friend. She didn’t mean to meet N, or later Hilda, or get caught up in Neo Team Plasma’s plot. But she finds that she’s a rather good leader. Plus, there’s Colress, who seems to be pulling the strings on the opposing side, yet doesn’t seem to believe in their goals himself. Rosa is the only one on her side to consider that Colress could be a hero if he tried - however, he disagrees. (Her starter is Snivy)

Calem - Calem has amnesia. That’s the problem with him trying to tell his story. Calem woke up passed out on the steps of Sycamore’s lab with Serena and Shauna staring at him. He accompanies them on their journey hoping that traveling Kalos will trigger his memories to return. All he remembers is that he needs to tell the professor something important. Maybe it has something to do with his irrational hatred for Team Flare. (His starter is Froakie)

Serena - Serena wants to be champion. She planned on traveling the region with her best friend, only to get two extra passengers. Calem, who is contributing nothing to her journey, and Victor, who wants to take photos of everyone but her. Over time though, Serena comes to appreciate both of them as her close group of friends - and Victor maybe more than friends. But Team Flare is awfully suspicious, and a passionate person like Serena isn’t going to let them get away with whatever they’re planning. (Her starter is Fennekin)

Shauna - Shauna, on the other hand, loves her new friends. She’s ready to make memories with Serena and the others, but is also one of the first to realize that maybe there’s a reason Calem showed up right when Team Flare really started to bother the region. (Her starter is Chespin)

Elio - Elio has always lived in Alola, and is thrilled to be hosting Selene for the summer. While they both start the Island Challenge, Elio quickly gets sidetracked by worrying about Team Skull and forming a rivalry at first sight with Gladion. Elio is much more interested in working under Nanu and getting him to arrest the gang members. He quickly realizes that won’t happen. (His starter is Litten)

Selene - Selene is Dawn’s younger sister. Dawn managed to stay in Sinnoh, but Selene was forced to move to Kanto. She convinced her mother to let her spend a summer in Alola with Elio and his mother, and then of course found a loophole with Kukui to go on her Island Challenge. Selene spends lots of time with Hau and Lillie, and also helps to convince Guzma that Lusamine is not going to provide him with the help she’s promising. (Her starter is Rowlett)

Victor - Victor actually makes his debut in Kalos. He’s a photographer trying to photograph famous people in the region, and follows the Kalos party in order to best find the gym leaders. Along the way, he falls in love with Serena, and when he heads back to Galar, she gives him a present that sets in motion the future. During his sister’s Gym Challenge, Rose recruits Victor to be his and Leon’s personal photographer, which puts Victor in incredible danger - even if Rose doesn’t realize quite how much power Victor brought from Kalos.

Gloria - A feisty trainer ready to take on the Gym Challenge and Leon. She feels like something isn’t quite right in Galar, and willing to work with Sonia to figure it out, but not if it gets in the way of her training. Along the way, she becomes good friends with Marnie, and has a friendly rivalry with Bede. She may also have a slight crush on Hop, but that’s not her biggest worry. (Her starter is Sobble)

Hop - Hop has always wanted to challenge his brother, and doing it with Gloria by his side is perfect. However, as he continues to lose to his rival and fall behind, he loses confidence. It takes saving Leon and the world to make Hop believe in himself again. (His starter is Scorbunny)

In addition, there’s a little girl. She has a large straw hat and a Pikachu. She appears all across the regions, talking about things that have happened, and things that are yet to come. She seems kind, but perhaps she knows more than she lets on. If so, some terrible predictions may come to pass, but the return of old foes? That’s not possible, right?

HCs and Background Info: Jolly Rogers

Setting

Takes place 3-4 years after the end of Pokémon UltraSun/UltraMoon post game events. This is also a few months after the end of Pokémon Sword/Shield post game events.

Characters (Main)

Guzma/Kukui: 28 years old

Moon/Hau: 14 years old

Leon: 22 years old

Raihan: 23 years old

Hop/Gloria: 13 years old

Sun/Victor: don't exist

Plumeria: 25 years old

"UnOC's"

*I'm weird in that I've created OCs however they are unoriginal since I'm taking existing NPCs and giving them greater depth

Berry Farmer (Name unreferenced/only referred to as Uncle and Unko): This is a character that sort of exists yes but in my universe he knew Guzma as a child and he grew up/was very close with Guzma's grandfather. He has the appearance of the default character model.

D.J. : Based on the punk girl character model. She's a licensed doctor working out of the pokécenter near Lush Jungle. She often treats patients under the table, thus does not make nearly as much money as one would expect a doctor and her equipment is well cared for but old and limited. Guzma worked for her a lot growing up as compensation for treatment of various injuries he sustained at the hands of his father.

Blue & Pink: Two team skull grunts- their youngest members at 14 years old. They're twin brother's and look very alike except Pink dyes his hair pink (like female grunts) while Blue dyes his the typical male blue color. Also Pink has slightly broader shoulders than his brother. Pink is characterized as very outgoing and is often the one to speak between the two of them. Blue is more reserved and soft spoken. He appreciates the way his brother diverts everyone's attention away from him with his boisterous personality and hair color choice. They are Johtonian, their dad died when they were young, and their mom disowned them a year or so prior to the events of the story. Their birth names are unsaid/unspecified

Jessamine (Jess): Based on the light skinned swimmer girl character model, she's Molayne's Aunt. When she's introduced, she's between 21 and 24 years old and originally from Unova. She works as a lifeguard and a café cook part time and works full time as a tattoo artist. She has a tattoo sleeve covering her entire right arm and up the side of her neck. She is overly protective of Molayne, who she gained custody of a couple years prior due to unspecified circumstances. When Guzma gets older, she ends up being the one to do all his piercings and tattoos (save for the kakau tattoo on his back which she refused to do out of respect for Alola tradition)

Kona: The manager of the café in the Malie City Pokécenter. His character model is the same as the berry farmer's, so instead of them looking exactly the same (b/c that would make no sense), he's still sort of an older, big guy like the model but he has incredibly dark skin that contrasts with his white hair/goatee. He's loud and bombastic and likes encouraging the kids to get up to trouble. He doesn't actually need the extra help in the café but he hired Jess on part time because he knew she needed the money. As long as Jess prepares it, he also allows Molayne to eat for free (as well as his friends).

Kalani: Based off of the Surfer character model from ultra sun/ultra moon. He runs a surf shack and is a master surfboard craftsman plus a former trial captain. He's a fairy type specialist and led a Fairy trial on Akala that has since been dissolved. He's a year younger than Guzma and also Guzma's biggest simp; he's had a horrible infatuation with him ever since they were kids. Guzma's adamant that although they are fuck friends they're not actually "friends" and tries to emotionally remove himself when they're together. He recently became close friends with Plumeria and has a bad habit of giving her more information about Guzma's sex life than she'd care to know. Golisopod hates this man with every fiber of his being.

A. & B. : The oldest grunts in team skull at 20 and 21 years old. They are meant to be the same ones the PC encounters in the game. A. is Unovan and has a slight long island accent. B. is Alolan and speaks with a lot of pidgin. They are both about the same height and build. Guzma hasn't kicked them out because, quite frankly, they are both very stupid and he feels bad for them. Their full names are Aaron and Blake, which are based off of the Key&Peele Substitute Teacher sketch

Team Skull

Made a deal with the Police that they'd allow them to remain in Po Town as long as they stopped their organized crime ring and enroll kids under a certain age in the school on Melemele.

Grunts still dress in "uniform" because many are wanted by the police because their (abusive) parents filed missing persons reports and others are wanted for small, nonviolent crimes like vandalism and petty theft. If the police cannot make a positive ID then they don't have probable cause to enter Po Town or interrogate anyone. Nanu is the one that tipped Guzma off to all of this.

Plumeria is working a full time job at the Aether Foundation to help pay for expenses now that they are unable to resort to crime.

Guzma can't find a steady job, likely because he is a known (former) crime lord. He occasionally get temporary jobs and he puts the money toward Po Town's expenses, particularly making sure the grunts always have enough food. He even resorted to selling his own body at the Hana Grand Resort to make ends meet.

Culture & Society

It's consider an omen in Alola to be born with light skin and light hair. Guzma struggled with discrimination growing up because of this. This may also be a factor preventing him from getting hired.

The above is referred to as the Curse of Po. People believe that those with the curse can steal souls and that their power grows at night. Often people will avoid people they consider Po at nighttime, like by crossing the street when they see one coming. It's super fucked up.

Alola, as a region, doesn't have enough money to have proper child services. As a result, when a child is put into the system, they are typically sent to Kalos for foster care. The police try to prevent people from opening child abuse cases so they don't have to deal with it. This is one of many reasons Nanu hates everything.

Backstories

Guzma and Kukui were very close childhood friends but now butt heads at every turn

To escape abuse, Guzma ran away from home at age 16, never finishing his trials (or school for that matter). Despite this he has a vast, comprehensive knowledge of herbal (berry) medicine and triage from his experiences growing up and studies everything and anything about bug type pokémon.
